Question 4
1. 4. Who would be the
audience for your media
product?
2. The main audience for our film would be people between the ages of 12 and 35. We
believed that this would be the most appropriate age rage because there is little to no
profanity and when there is it is moderate at most. The same goes for the amount of
violence. Although there would be violent sequences throughout certain parts of the
overall film, they would not be bloody or gory aside from a few scenes of injury detail.
The action scenes and futuristic setting may keep younger viewers invested while the
more thought-provoking story, interesting characters and concepts along with the
whodunit style mystery may keep older viewers invested.
The Overall Film
3. The opening of the film is very similar to the rest of the film, almost with a more horror like
atmosphere as the protagonist makes his way through the virtual reality world. The
unusual glitch special effects may interest the younger audiences. However, the
atmosphere and concept of the opening may be enough to instantly invest older
audiences. The slight continuity breaking glitch effects would also interest people who
wish to create their own films in the future as they may wish to study our film and work
out how to do these effects for themselves. As the overall story is in a slight whodunit style
of story telling, the opening is very vague, intriguing the audience to continue viewing.
This would entice people who enjoy watching Espionage Thrillers as they typically follow
this kind of story telling. Fans of the Cyberpunk genre would enjoy the opening as it delves
into the types of technology that is present in this interpretation of the near future.
Opening
4. Pre-Production Research
For our pre-production research we asked multiple people of the age range that we aimed our film at.
Question 1: Do you watch films often? Question 2: What genre of film do you like best?
5. Question 3: What are your thoughts on our chosen
film genre?
'Thought provoking' 'Not my preferred
choice'
'Chance for interesting plot' 'Quite Niche'
Question 4: What are you views on the storyline that we have
chosen to go with?
'I like the idea of having a sarcastic main character in a Spy-
thriller type film'
'Very Interesting, with twists and turns to keep the viewers
interested'
'It is a little generic, terrorism is a big plot in most films these
days'
'Quite dramatic, holds suspense'
Question 5: What kind of settings
would you expect a film like this to
have?
6. Question 6: What type of music would you expect to hear in
this type of film?
Question 7: Any further suggestions or comments / anything
that we could improve?
'No I don't think so, as far as a 3 minute introduction to a film
goes, I think you've managed to keep it as interesting as
possible'
'Make sure that the editing is well considered and thought
about in this production'
'Include fast-pace music during the chase scenes'
'Pull off as many different shots as you possibly can, it's all
about the variety
7. How We Used the Pre-Production Research
We used the pre-production research to see if there were anyways in which we could subvert the stereotypes
and expectations of our chosen genre. For example, question 7 is about the type of music people may expect to
hear in our film. Most people said some kind of electronic subgenre. We subverted our audiences expectations
by using Alternative and Jazz music to add our own spin to the genre.
