We conducted a survey as primary research to see what potential audiences thought of our thriller product, and how we could potentially adapt it to fit a wider range of audiences.
2. Q1. What is your gender?
These answers showed us that the majority of the people who
answered were females. This benefits us as we are currently using
actresses, so this will allow the audience watching to relate more to the
characters.
3. Q2. What is your age?
This shows us that the majority of our audience are in the age
bracket 16-18. Our actresses are aged 16, so this allows this age
group to relate more to the characters we are using.
4. Q3. What is your favourite genre of film?
From these responses we can see that the two most popular genres are thriller
and romance. This somewhat supports the plan of our film as it is from the thriller
genre. However we have not included an element of romance. The second most
popular response was comedy. We attempted to include an element of comedy,
however, it did not fit with the plot of our film.
5. Q4. What do you specifically enjoy about your favourite genre?
We received a range of responses to this question. A few of our responses worked with the thriller
genre such as ‘Being on the edge of my seat’, ‘the unexpected’ and ‘its exciting because there is
always a sense of mystery’. These all work with the genre of our film as a sense of mystery is created
through the use of an all black figure. This could leave the audience on the edge of their seats as the
two main characters are unaware of this figure. Therefore, ‘the unexpected’ is going to occur.
6. Q5. What gender do you prefer the main role to be in a film?
The answer to this question had a halfway split of male and female.
However, as we all wanted to be a part of our film, we decided to still
include our three female roles, and no male roles.
7. Q6. What age actors / actresses do you prefer to watch?
The most common age in answer to this question was 18-30 year olds.
However, the actresses for our thriller film are not between that age gap.
But, we decided that it was more important for the members of our group to
be in this film, rather than characters of other ages, so we were able to have
the final product which we originally planned.
8. Q7. What narratives / sub-genres do you prefer in a film?
A common narrative which was suggested throughout the comments of
this question was ‘friendship’. We have included this in our thriller as it fits
with our plot nicely. Another suggestion was the sub-genre, comedy, which
originally we were going to include, however, it did not really fit with the
plot of our film.
9. Q8. How many main actors/actresses do you like to typically see
in a film?
The main response to this question was ‘2 to 6’. This fits with our original thriller
plan as we have a total of 2 main characters and also a third character.
10. Q9. What interests do you have outside of film?
We including this question in our survey to have an understanding of the interests of
the people answering our question and to see if we were able to include an element of
these hobbies into our film. However, we realised that this would not fit into the plot of
our film and would be completely random.
11. Q10. What time of day to you typically prefer a film to be?
The majority of the responses answered ‘evening’. When we come to edit our film we are
going to dim the lighting to create the effect of it being filmed in the evening. This also fits
with the typical thriller convention of low key lighting.
