The teacher is responsible for providing his/her students with a good model for imitation, and the role of the students is to imitate the teacher’s model or the tapes. What are some characteristics of teaching/learning process? New vocabulary and structural patterns are presented through dialogs. Grammar is induced from the example given; explicit grammar rule are not provided. What is the nature of Ss – teacher interaction? What is the nature of Ss – Ss interaction? There is Ss – Ss interaction in chain drills or when Ss take different roles in dialogues, but as listeners this interaction is between teacher and Ss and is initiated by the teacher. How are the feelings of the students dealt with? There are no principles of the method that relate to this area. How is the language viewed? How is the culture viewed? Culture consist of the everyday behavior and lifestyle of the target language speakers. What areas of language (grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary) are emphasized? What language skills are emphasized? The oral/aural skills receive most of the attention. Pronunciation is taught from the beginning. What is the role of the students’ native language? The Ss don’t use their native language in the classroom. It’s thought that interferes with the Ss learning process. How is evaluation accomplished? Discrete evaluation that is, each question on the test would focus on only one point of the language at a time. How does the teacher respond to Ss errors? Ss errors are to be avoided.
