Application for Master Degree in Theory and Computational...
In this ever changing world of computers, where computer systems grow more efficient, intelligent
and complex, I find the in–depth study of computing concepts not only appealing but also
indispensable. As I move ahead in the future, I strongly desire for a program that would help me
build a comprehensive foundation in the field of Computer Science. Within this field, I have
developed a deep interest in the area of Theory and Computational Science. More specifically I find
algorithms and theory of computation the most appealing areas due to their application in solving
many real world problems.
My undergraduate course in the field of Electronics Engineering has given me a comprehensive
exposure to all the core fields of computer science ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The project was successfully implemented and demonstrated during our final presentation.
Throughout my professional career as a Java/J2EE Developer, I was involved in integrating diverse
Java web technologies to create highly qualified web applications. Primarily my responsibilities
included: Analyzing new business requirements, proposing technical solutions for design and
implementation, coding and testing. For the 'Global Protein Separation' project, a web based
application for our client GE–Healthcare at Tata Consultancy Services, I got the opportunity to work
as a 'Project Leader'. I gained an understanding of the phases involved in developing a web
application from scratch. The purpose was to migrate the system which existed in Oracle Forms to a
browser based Java application incorporating new features and functional requirements.I was
involved in designing the web interface, implementing MVC architecture using Struts2 framework,
integrating security features and backend functionalities. As a project lead, I also exercised my
managerial skills including supervising audit, project management and delivery.
At Capgemini, I worked for our client, Morgan Stanley Investment Management as an Associate
Consultant for a web based system named 'Carry Incentive Plan'. Here I learned about the field of
banking and financial services. It exposed me to wide range of terminologies used in investment
banking and their business. The project gave me an opportunity to

Computer Science And Discourse Community Analysis
Stevens Institute of Technology is a technically oriented university with a diverse set of majors not
limited to just engineering. From engineering students to history majors, Stevens makes sure to
highlight the importance of understanding technology in today's world. Computer science is one of
the more prominent majors outside of the field of engineering and the Stevens freshmen in computer
science have created a discourse community for all those taking entry level computer science
courses. According to American Linguist John Swales, a discourse community is defined by a group
of people with a means of entry maintained by following set goals and rules, as well as,
communicating using genres and lexis unique to the community. It's unsurprising ... Show more

Although the GroupMe is the main form of communication of the group as a whole, there are other
opportunities for members to interact. Often computer science students will hang out with each
other and complain about or do work together. Any interactions between the members of the
community contain several different lexicons of the group that range from using just the course
number to refer to classes without the preceding letters to referring to certain instructors as
"members of the cabal". The latter of the two comes from a homework assignment where students
had to prove logically which instructors where part of the cabal, defined by the assignment as
people plotting to make ridiculously hard quizzes that needed to be answered in ancient
hieroglyphics. This term is also conversely used to point out which instructors are against the cabal.
Another important lexicon is "you are your own baby" which comes from a lecture where it was
proven that if everyone loves your baby and your baby loves no one but you, you are your own
baby. This lexicon is also used as a meme within the community whenever things do not make
sense. Other lexicons that are more normal, include anything related to programming such as "big
oh notation" and "trees". Typically, people think of trees as big things with green leaves but to a
computer science student it could also mean a data

1.1 What is representational similarity analysis?
Representational similarity analysis (RSA) is an analysis framework builds on a rich
psychological and mathematical literature, in which multi–channel measures of neural activity
are quantitatively related to each other and to computational theory and behavior by comparing
RDMs. RDM is the representational dissimilarity matrix, which contains a cell for each pair of
experimental conditions. Each cell is a number reflecting the dissimilarity between the activity
patterns associated with the two conditions. The core of the of RSA is to use RDM as a signature
of the representations in brain regions and computational models (Kriegeskorte, Mur, &
Bandettini, 2008).
1.2 The differences between RSA and MVP classification analysis and the new information
that can be obtained from representational similarity analysis that is not revealed by MVP
classification or univariate analysis.
RSA is a particular versatile version of MVPA. It goes beyond testing of information in
regional response patterns and enables researchers to handle condition–rich experiments without
predefined stimulus categories, to test conceptual and computational models, and to relate
representations between humans and monkeys, and even to related across different types of brain
activity measurements.
1.2.1 Major differences:

Can We Create Brain Cells?
The question was asked 'Is It Possible to Create an Artificial Brain'. A literature review of the
following was done to explain this question. During this section I will revise and discuss this
research to see if my question can be answered.
Can we create brain cells?
To be able to answer my question we must overcome the many barriers that stand in the way of it.
One of these barriers being recreating human brain cells. In the literature review I wrote about the
two types of brain cells that are found in the brain; neurons and glial cells. I then continued to write
about the two different approaches to recreating these cells.
Firstly I introduced the Astons university study where a group of researchers were able to isolate

Some disagree with this argument by saying that the embryo has no moral status as it is not fully a
human being and so they believe no human life is destroyed in the embryonic stem cell extraction
process.
In my opinion I believe that they early embryo has no moral status and that it is a researcher 's duty
to save or better the quality of human life by using these stem cells. I feel it is a moral obligation to
treat and relieve people who are suffering of their pain. If we do not use stem cells we are delaying
our journey to treating neurological diseases and going further to creating an artificial brain. There
will always be a cost but we should accept it and continue working in a carefully regulated context
because we know the benefits and how it can positively affect thousands of people 's lives.
I also wrote about how the scientists at Karolinska Institutet had managed to build a fully functional
neuron. This study aims to recreate brain cells in artificial ways unlike the study I have just
discussed. The issues with this study are mostly focused on the size of the device they have created.
Their artificial neuron is currently far too large to be able to implant into the human body. For this to
work and be accessible to the public the scientists are going to have to miniaturise the device. The
next issue will be making the device wireless so the person implanted

Contributions Of The Human Genome Project
Every research paper published today on life sciences have a last–author, who is mostly a
computational biologist. The last–author may not actively involve in the research, but has
contributed in more fundamental and important areas, without which the experiment might remain
invalid and thus unpublished. What do the computational biologists do? What important thing(s)
they added to research paper that make the papers valid?
The least and most simple thing that the computational biologists do is biostatistics. A validity of
biological experiment is determined by statistical data. Computational biologists taken biology into

This computer technology is useless without data from the physical world.
Today, computational biology has thrived forward to a new level where biologists do experiments
totally in the virtual world and take them into account and make them usable for further study or for
drawing a conclusion about a subject. For example, in real world, biologists, or more precisely
evolutionary biologists, can't predict evolution and are unable to go back to the time or to repeat the
same path that has led to today's world. Through computer simulation or program, biologists can
have a look through the evolutionary pathway that had been followed long time ago and made
today's world.
One of the theory of adaptation is exaptation. Survival of the fittest determined the adaptation and
thus evolution of new species. "Some evolutionary innovations may originate non–adaptively as
exaptation, or pre–adaptations, which are by–product of other adaptive traits" (Barve and Wagner,
2013). It has been known that birds got their feathers for flight from dinosaurs, and some proteins
change into lens because of their ability to refract light. In a nutshell, exaptation is the result of
adaptation from traits that were evolved for something different at first, which later causes
innovative changes and give adaptation for a different trait.
Barve and Wagener used novel computational methods in their research. They randomly sample
different metabolic pathways that can sustain life in any given carbon

Computer Science In Education Essay
Only 5% of United States high schools teach computer science, the study of the principles and use
of computers, despite its critical importance. Even as the enrollment in science, technology,
engineering, and math classes have increased in the past 20 years, the number of students enrolled in
computer science has actually decreased. This can be attributed to the neglect exhibited by schools
on computer science. In these 20 years, 1 billion computers have been built which makes computer
science "integrated": so baked into human life that it is not surprising to encounter, with social,
technological, and futuristic aspects of the world. Unlike other integrated disciplines such as English
or math, computer science is not a required course in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Universities are already starting to require computer science classes, but this creates the question:
How should computer science courses be implemented in education before University? An optimal
solution must teach social problem solving skills, increase the functionality of technology, and
provide an understanding of the future. The time at which computer science is introduced must also
be considered to ensure students have enough prior background knowledge in other related
disciplines and a basic understanding of what computer can and cannot do. In order to properly
implement computer science in education, it should be required in high school education and teach
the ubiquitous relationship that computer science has with the social, technological, and futuristic
aspects of the world.
Computer science is bound to have social impacts because of its ubiquitous nature. The most
influential of these impacts is the introduction of computational thinking. Computational Thinking
is a process that generalizes a solution to open ended problems. Open–ended problems encourage
full, meaningful answers based on multiple variables, which are derived using abstraction and
automation. When solving open ended problems, computer scientists abstract notions from both the
physical and theoretical worlds. Unlike mathematical notions which only consider theory, computer
science combines both

Abstract
View planning is a crucial part of building vision system for autonomous robots or critical coverage
problems. In computational geometry the problem of covering/guarding a region is known as the art
gallery theorem. The version where static guards are re– placed by mobile guards is known as the
watchman route theorem. Both these classic theorem adopts the straight line notion of visibility
which is impractical for real world sensors. In this work we review the existing techniques for
solving the classical ver– sion of these problems and also discuss the modi cations needed to
handle real world sensors. We also discuss some recent methods that takes physical visibility
constraints into account.
1 Introduction
Producing autonomous robots that can operate without any sort of human intervention is one of the
ultimate goals in robotics [42]. Such robots should be capable of exploring their environment,
interpret the surroundings and act accordingly. Vision is clearly one of the most critical capability
such a robot must have to act autonomously. When exploring an unknown environment, a robot is
rst required to extract information about the surroundings.
Following this exploration, it should be able to carry out speci c task such as nding potentially

Future And Future Of Implants
Future of Implants
When I asked Dr. Marko about what he thinks will happen to implants in the future he stated: "I
expect that it will expand." He explained that "current DBS technologies are seeing expanding
indications for more and more diseases with good results. But beyond this, there are whole new
domains of brain implants coming online and in the research pipeline. These include the whole field
of brain–computer interface, which allows the brain to control machines (e.g. prosthetic limbs). This
is very promising, and some examples are already making it to real–world application. Additional
implants designed to improve memory, etc. are also being developed. The future of those is less
certain, but I suspect they will improve and start to see practical application as time goes on"
[Marko].
One strong belief about the future of implants is that they will significantly reduce in size; nanoscale
implants will be fully developed and will be comprised of materials with increased longevity so that
there will be no need of additional surgeries for repair or replacements. With continued research and
development of implants and advancements are made as a result of the Blue Brain Project, implants
will be able to mend the symptoms of a larger range of diseases. This is extremely important, for
millions of people will regain their abilities that were taken from them by a disease.
Currently, deep brain stimulation implants focus on enhancing motor functions or mood. The deep

Personal Statement For Women
Personal Statement
"Stop studying math so hard, girl. How will math help you?" My high school classmate Yijie jeered
at me when I told him I wanted to major in mathematics and computer science. "Such complex
subjects are just not suitable for women." Although Yijie was not an old–fashioned person, he
insisted that women were inferior in high technology fields. In my country, China, this gender
stereotype still affects women's lives, from major placement decision to their career path choice. I
strongly oppose this constraining opinion, and firmly believe that women are capable to make great
achievements in modern high technology as men do. Therefore, I made up my mind to show people
that women can also succeed in mathematics and computer science. I have been committed to
mathematics and computing since I was young. My parents are both accountants. They taught me a
lot math and computer skills in my childhood. Their love and passion towards math and computing
had a huge impact on me. As I went to school, math and computer science immediately attracted
me. Its logicality and challenge gave me a deep sense of satisfaction. I enjoyed challenging fixed
answers and finding new ways to solve problems. Compared to my peers, I always understood math
and computer problems faster and more accurately. Furthermore, I fortunately had a great woman
math teacher in my junior high school. As she discovered my devotion and potential in math, she

Artificial Intelligence: An Overview
Artificial Intelligence Computers are everywhere today. It would be impossible to go your entire life
without using a computer. Cars, ATMs, and TVs we use everyday, and all contain computers. It is
for this reason that computers and their software have to become more intelligent to make our lives
easier and computers more accessible. Intelligent computer systems can and do benefit us all;
however people have constantly warned that making computers too intelligent can be to our
disadvantage. Artificial intelligence, or AI, is a field of computer science that attempts to simulate
characteristics of human intelligence or senses. These include learning, reasoning, and adapting.

Expert systems are also known as knowledge based systems. These systems rely on a basic set of
rules for solving specific problems and are capable of learning. The laws are defined for the system
by experts and then implemented using if–then rules. These systems basically imitate the expert's
thoughts in solving the problem. An example of this is a system that diagnosis medical conditions.
The doctor would input the symptoms to the computer system and it would then ask more questions
if need or give diagnoses. Other examples include banking systems for acceptance of loans,
advanced calculators, and weather predictions. Natural language systems interact allow computers
to interact with the user in their usual language. They accept, interpret, and execute the commands
in this language. The attempt is to allow a more natural interaction between the computer and user.
Language is sometimes thought to be the foundation of intelligence in humans. Therefore, it is
reasonable for intelligent systems to be able to understand language. Some of these systems are
advanced enough to hold conversations. A system that emulates human senses uses human sensory
simulation. These can include methods of sight, sound, and touch. A very common implementation
of this intelligence is in voice recognition software. It listens to what the user says, interprets the
sounds, and displays the information on the screen. These are

Real valued classification is a popular decision making problem, having wide practical application

machine learning technique for real valued classification. ELMis a single hidden layer feedfo5

are some of the complex valued classifiers designed for real valued classification problems.
CCELM out– performs other complex valued classifiers for real valued classification problems.
It also performs well when dataset is imbalanced.
35 It has been observed that many practical classification problems have imbalanced data sets[23,
24]. If we classify such data, most of the classifiers favours the majority class due to which most of
the instances belonging to minority class are misclassified. To deal with such dataset, various
sampling approaches [25] as well as algorithmic approaches are used. Sampling approaches
includes over 40 sampling and undersampling techniques. Oversampling replicates a fraction of
minority samples while undersampling approach reduces a fraction of majority samples to make
dataset balanced. But there is problem with sampling approaches. Oversampling [26] increases
redundancy of data and undersampling results in loss of information. In algorithmic approach,
classifier design
45 encompasses the measures to handle class imbalance. Most of the neural network based
classifiers like FCRBF [4, 3],CCELM[9] minimizes least square error to find optimal weights.
Recently proposed WELM minimizes weighted least square error function to find optimal weights
between hidden and output layer.
In this classifier, residuals of minority

A Study On The Mapping Process Of Mapping The Coordinates...
ABSTRACT Named entity disambiguation is a very interesting problem having wide ranging
applications. It is the process of mapping the mentions of persons, organisations, events etc. in
textual documents to real world entities. The mapping process becomes tedious when these
mentions in the text are commonly used to describe more than one real world entities. It is then said
that the mention is ambiguous. If the mentions can be correctly mapped to the corresponding real
world entities, then it can lead to a more informative and intuitive web experience where the textual
documents can be linked to other knowledge bases which contain more information on various
entities described in the document. In this report, we have surveyed well known research papers in
the field of named entity disambiguation and have described the approaches suggested in them.
Successive sections of report aim to solve the shortcomings of the algorithms discussed in the
previous sections. INTRODUCTION The recent years have seen a huge increase in the number of
online documents. This has resulted in a huge amount of information being available at the click of
a mouse. But, at the same time, the retrieval of relevant information from this collection of
unstructured documents has emerged as a challenging task and is a topic of research. A major part of
retrieving information out of a document is finding out the words or phrases of significance in the

ecosystem. An ecosystem is a set of organism within a defined area or volume that interact with one
another and with their environment (Miller & Spoolman). A system is a collection of elements
or components that are organized for a common purpose (Rouse, 2005).
The purpose of this simulation is to see how these three organisms will interact with one another in

application employing ML would involve the design and construction of an algorithm where the

Amazon Web Services S3 or Microsoft's Azure are few amongst the various cloud services currently
available that allow users to store massive amounts data at unbelievably low costs.
With massive data at disposal comes the huge potential to analyze this data to draw inferences or

reason to move to the cloud would be the varying computational requirements in the ML lifecycle.
The process of training/ retraining your model requires enormous computation power and resources,
while the process of utilizing your trained models does not require any resources. The varying
workload of the ML lifecycle makes it an ideal candidate for the cloud. Cloud Computing is a
powerful technology that allows complex computations on massive scale data by eliminating the
need to maintain dedicated storage space or maintain expensive hardware. Also it follows intuitively
to train your models in the cloud where the data is stored. Prior to the advent of cloud based ML

The Importance Of Learning Computer Science
We live in the time period at which the vast majority of college students take fundamental level of
computer science.
It is because a lot of job requires some level of knowledge in it.
It also determines the payment in their future job. It is an indisputable fact that people who did not
learn computer science learn less salary than those who did learn. Therefore, the majority of the
college students are obsessed with computer science to acquire a financial advantage in the work
place.
In the first of class of IDS 190, Dr. James Lu explained to us that we would explore in this course on
one inquiry: is learning computer science important to our life?
Dr. Lu underscored throughout the semester that computer science can teach the skill of
computational thinking.
According Jeannette M. Wing, a professor at Carnegie Mellon University, "computational
thinking[It] represents a universally applicable attitude and skill set everyone, not just computer
scientists, would be eager to learn and us."
In other word, computational thinking is relevant to algorithmic thinking, searching ability, logical
reasoning, abstraction, caching, recursion, representation, basic loop idiom, and nested loops, all of
which are computer science skills.
And knowing those specific techniques, according to Wing, will influence our problem–solving
ability, creativity, and thinking. However, though computer science can tremendously help develop

Personal Narrative: My AP Computer Science
There were times in elementary school when teachers had to pick me up from my chair to give
another student a chance to use the school computer. When I first laid eyes on a computer I was
amazed at all the things that it could accomplish but I never really delved the aspects of it. This
changed when I took my AP Computer Science course during my junior year, taking the class
helped develop my passion for the computer. Taking this course helped me to explore other areas of
the computer that I didn't know existed, because I wanted to learn more about the world of
computers I decided to join the cyber security team and the robotics team at my school. By joining
the cybersecurity team I was able to augment my knowledge on computers in general,

The War After War Since 1980
Study Purposes
Hawkar Oagaz
Iraq has been in the war since 1980. War after war. These devastated wars had made the country on
of the worst in the word in many aspects. Of course, they had influenced the life of each and every
person living there. I have seen the war and saw all affects that the war could left behind. From
destroyed cites to desperate people that have no hope to rebuild their country and their lives. It
affected me personally and shaped my personality. When I see all these pessimistic and dark
atmosphere, I feel there should be some people that can at least change this mode to better one. This
made me to feel responsible to do something and be part to what brings happiness to those people.
Therefore, it has always been my dream to be a productive person in the community. I think one of
the best way to be a positive element in the society is to be properly educated both mentally and
technically.
In Iraqi still most of the government regularities are done via paper and people have to wait a long
time to do simple things that will take minutes if done via a computerized systems. Thus,
computerizing governmental offices has to be considered as an urgent issue and government has to
work on it seriously. To accomplish the process of developing IT infrastructure and computerized
governmental offices, we need a lot of computer scientists and software engineering expertise. The
main problem in Iraq is the lack of expertise. However many private universities have

My Preferred Major Is Computer Science
My preferred major is computer science. Computer science is the act of coding and other operations
dealing with computer software. Computer science also deals with knowing all or most languages of
code such as Java, Python, or Linux. Along my path to deciding that I wanted to major in computer
science, I faced many obstacles and was a part of many experiences that pushed me towards this
field. Some events would be as simple as my family designating me the honorary "Tech Guy" or my
friends coming to me for advice on their computers. Those things are what sparked my interest.
Then came my first coding class. It was one of the most difficult things I have ever done and it was
so immense. So many commands and combinations and it just didn't seem to make sense. But then I
realized, it was made by someone. People have a knack for creating patterns. It is how the human
brain works, we take all the large amount of data that is thrown at our brains and then we make
shortcuts like seeing patterns. So that's what humans did to the machines. We gave them the same
mindset. So I started noticing shortcuts in the data and patterns and soon everything started to click.
I know I am a good match for computer science because of my mindset. I am very logical and my
mind appeals to common sense, which coding kind of revolves around. I have a love for technology.
The abilities Man has gained just from a few steel and plastic clumps with electricity in them. It
really is amazing to me. Also, I

Speech Conversion Using Neural Networks
CS 549 TOPICS IN ARITIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TEXT TO SPEECH CONVERSION USING
NEURAL NETWORKS Project Report Firstly, Artificial Intelligence was used in 1956, at the
Dartmouth conference and from then it is expanded because of various proposed theories and many
new principles developed by its researchers. It is an area of computer science that focusses on
creating machines that can engage on behaviors of humans, solve the computational models for
complex problems. Here Neural Networks are a computational approach to AI, which is based on
the great collection of Neural Units, which models a Human brain as connected large number of
neurons. These neurons are connected to each other to process the information as of the human
brain. Artificial neural network (ANN) learn by testing and training data. The Artificial Intelligence
in brief can be defined as the study and design of intelligent agents. Text to Speech Conversion
using Neural networks: In this project, we are developing Natural Language Processing (NLP),
which is related to processing human language by computer. The base paper for the implementation
of our project is "Natural Language processing techniques in Text–To–Speech synthesis and
Automatic Speech Recognition" Here the base paper we referred depicts usage of natural language
processing techniques which includes the production of audio from the input text i.e., text to speech
synthesis and the inverse process i.e., automatic speech recognition. From this paper we

Computer Science Career Research Paper
I have chosen to pursue a career in computer science, because it has been a heavy influence on me
throughout my life. All my life I have been surrounded by technology, almost more than half of my
family has a career in the IT field, which is what sparked my interest. My earliest memory of when I
first became interested was when I was about 6 and my mother bought me a phonics dog, and I was
more interested in how it worked rather than what it did. I then saw the screw bolts and knew if I
used a screwdriver I could see the inside of the toy so I opened it, and from then on I knew I was
interested in technology. In middle school was when I first took my actual dive into the IT world
and I learned there are different computer languages, and about different devices used in the tech
world. Also I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

use the CLI of a network device, and perform a physical and wireless connect network devices. The
modern world is now becoming more of a technology based society, we are now starting to integrate
technology into almost every and anything. That's also a concept I was taught in Cisco it's actually
called the Internet of Things, which is basically just network devices that can communicate without
human help. In the next 20 years according to the Internet of Things almost everything will have
technology inside of it making it like a network device, like shirts, cars, lights and other everyday

Physics Of Physics And Engineering Mechanics
By the time I reached senior high school, I knew I wanted to study mechanical engineering, but I
hadn't decided on a focus. Then, near the end of my junior year, I attended a family function at my
aunt and uncles' house. A number of my siblings and cousins had piled onto their trampoline, and
eventually a bracket in the underside of the trampoline failed. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but my
uncle, who worked for Elliot Group, mentioned that a simple finite element model should have been
able to identify the design deficiency. At the time, I didn't even know what finite element analysis
was, so I did some research when I got home. What I found was a field that exactly suited my
interests in applied mathematics and engineering mechanics. Since then, I have taken every
opportunity possible to expand my knowledge of computational mechanics, and I hope to further
that effort at the University of Illinois. My academic experience began freshman year of college,
when I took a course on computational methods in engineering. As it was an honors course, the
curriculum was extremely aggressive. We covered basic programming in both C++ and MATLAB, a
number of numerical methods, and how to write strong technical papers. Since then, I have taken
more advanced courses, but this one had the greatest effect on me because it impressed upon me the
vast potential of computation methods. Many of the problems that are difficult to solve analytically
could now be solved in the blink of an eye,

"Rabbits and Wolves"
Introduction
I will be conducting a computer simulation called "Rabbits and Wolves". In this experiment I will be
interaction with a simple forest ecosystem model that will simply take into account three organisms:
rabbits, wolves, and grass.
As defined by "Environmental Science– 14th Edition", an ecosystem is "a set of organisms within a
defined area or volume that interact with one another and with their environment of nonliving
matter and energy." I will be using the computer simulation to alter the interactions of the organisms
in the ecosystem to see what changes occur.

accomplished over the course of this simulation. I have done so by changing parameters, observing
the simulation, and analyzing the data that was brought about by the simulation. I also determined
through my use of the computer model that simple changes to one population in the ecosystem
created through this computer model does not change the outcome of the simulation in any major
way. On the other hand, if you completely get rid of one of the populations instead of raising or

Stereochemical Dependence for dSp
Interestingly, studies from our laboratory and others have demonstrated a stereochemical
dependence for dSp processing by enzymes in ODNs. The first instance of a dSp diastereomer
difference was reported from our laboratory when Klenow Fragment (exo–) was allowed to insert
dATP opposite the isomers for which dSp1–containing ODNs were found to be the more favorable
substrate for insertion and bypass.32 This study was extended to in vivo experiments by Neeley, et
al. to include pol II and pol IV, also showing more favorable bypass kinetics for dSp1.34 As further
evidence for in vivo stereochemical dependency in dSp processing, Henderson, et al. utilized the
restriction endonuclease and postlabeling assay (REAP) to determine the mutation profiles for dSp1
and dSp2 in Escherichia coli.28 In the sequence context 5'–d(GSpA)–3', they found a strong
stereochemical dependence in the relative amounts of dG→dT and dG→dC transversion mutations
for dSp1 and dSp2. In subsequent experiments, Delaney, et al. showed a somewhat different
dependence of mutation profiles on the dSp diastereomers in the sequence context 5'–(TSpG)–3'
using the REAP and competitive replication of adduct bypass assays (CRAB).29,30 An additional
observation from our laboratory quantified the digestion kinetics of dSp isomers in the dinucleotides
5'–d(Np[Sp])–3' (N = A, T, G or C) by nuclease P1 that showed dSp1 was the kinetically preferred
substrate in all sequence combinations.33 Lastly, in collaboration

Mechanical And Transport Properties Of Cellular Solids
Abstract This work presents a novel formulation for a Voronoi–type cellular material with in–plane
anisotropic behaviour, showing global positive and negative Poisson's ratio effects under uniaxial
tensile loading. The effects of the cell geometry and relative density over the global stiffness,
equivalent in–plane Poisson's ratios and shear modulus of the Voronoi–type structure are evaluated
with a parametric analysis. Empirical formulas are identified to reproduce the mechanical trends of
the equivalent homogeneous orthotropic material representing the Voronoi–type structure and its
geometry parameters. Keywords Lattice structures; Elastic behaviour; Simulation; Finite element
analysis 1. Introduction The mechanical and transport properties of cellular solids have been
traditionally modeled using periodic unit cells representative volumes. Examples of these unit cell
topologies are the hexagonal prismatic and quadrilateral centrosymmetric ones (Gibson and Ashby,
1997), Kelvin lattices (Choi and Lakes, 1995, Zhu et al., 1997, Warren and Kraynik, 1997, Mills,
2005, Gong et al., 2005 and Weaire, 2008). The level of disorder associated to the shape and
orientation of cells belonging to real open cell foams has been described numerically by making use
of Voronoi diagrams (Kraynik et al., 2003). Voronoi tessellations create one–to–one optimal (i.e.,
minimum distance) correspondence between a point in the space and polytopes (a geometric entity

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Spectroscopy
It has been the main topic of this thesis to establish the link between state–of–the–art theoretical
tools and typical spectroscopies in order to contribute to the understanding of complex many–body
compounds. The synergy between theory and experiment was given a special attention. The main
spectroscopy studied theoretically by the works in this thesis is photoemission and its variants. In
particular, we worked out the effects of correlations in many–body systems as manifested in
spectroscopic quantities.
In our works [E1] and [E2], the coupling of the electronic degrees of freedom – the photoelectron
properties, in particular – to the nuclear motion was studied in depth. The novel aspects hereby were

The advantages of the NEGF formalism and the underlying powerful machinery of the MBPT
inspired us to develop the formal NEGF theory of photoemission further with our work [E3]. We
elucidated the connection of the formal concepts of the FPA to the standard MBPT, allowing for a
practical implementation of the theory. The main advances were achieved by the extension of the
theoretical description of DPE, which we advocate as a very useful sensor for the many facets of
correlations in many–body systems. The effective electron–electron interaction in more complex
systems comprises, besides the Coulomb repulsion, fluctuation–mediated effects due to the
dynamical environment. As an important example, we focused on dynamical screening mediated by
charge–density fluctuations. We have chosen the buckminster fullerene as a concrete system for its
pronounced plasmon resonances and generally rich physics. In our work [E4] we rigorously
categorised the collective modes, based on full–fledged ab initio calculations, with the help of the
NMF. The obtained model for DD response function – whose accuracy is corroborated by
comparing to EELS data – was then employed to characterise the dynamically screened interaction
in the C60 molecule. With these tools at hand, we were able to elucidate the role of electronic
correlations mediated by the density oscillations in DPE in our joint theoretical and experimental
work [E5]. The distinct feature of the experiment – the significant narrowing of the coincidence
spectrum – is in agreement with our ab initio description and so endorses the plasmon–assisted DPE
due to as a novel aspect of releasing two correlated electrons from complex

How Technology Has Made On Students
In recent years, federal and local governments have been pouring overwhelming amounts of
taxpayer money into buying computers and other digital tools for K–12 education. The rationale is
computers are more important than ever, and they are gaining in popularity daily, so it is necessary
to prepare our students to use them in their daily lives. But the tools that are being invested in are
not being used effectively, and they are showing very minor benefits relative to the massive
economical investment that the public has placed in it. The developments and integration of
computer science curriculum in K–12 education is better understood by observing the current
impact that technology has made on students, and exploring the perspectives of teachers and
administrators on technology integration and the expansion of computer curriculum. It is also
important to understand what taxpayers and the public expect out of public schools, and how
curriculum writers and educational agencies are working to better equip schools with resources with
respect to computer education and computer science. In the following paragraphs I will explore
various articles from established individuals in both the educational and computer science
industries, and I will apply their opinions and research to the stakeholders above. To better
understand some of the articles I have selected for this paper, it is important to understand some
special terminology used to describe some aspects of the role computer

The Future Of Neuroscience : From Sci Fi
The future of neuroscience: from sci–fi to reality
Billions of football fans around the world were amazed in the summer of 2014, when 29 years old
Brazilian Juliano Pinto [1], who was paralyzed from waist down, was able to kick a football to
ceremonially open the World Cup. Pinto made the kick while wearing a robotic exoskeleton
controlled by his brain. The high–tech demonstration was orchestrated by Duke University
neuroscientist Miguel Nicolelis, as part of the Walk Again Project [2], to develop and implement a
brain–machine interface to allow severely paralyzed patients to regain mobility. The sight of such
futuristic technology straight out of the Iron Man movie becoming a reality is simply exhilarating.

We are now entering the golden age of neuroscience.
Current efforts
So how are we beginning to understand the way the brain works? The same way we begin to
understand a city: by making maps. The invention of the MRI machine and other high tech scans
and tests, such as functional MRI, two–photon imaging and multi–electrode recording has allowed
scientists to observe and record the activities in specific areas of the brain, and even probe the nature
of thoughts itself. It is now possible to see how neurons respond when an animal is learning
something and forming new circuits. Targeted genetic manipulations of receptors that scientists
believe are important in learning and memory are also providing a great deal of information. In an
interview [5], Rick Huganir, Chair of the Solomon H. Snyder Department of Neuroscience,
explained: "Learning creates new circuits in the brain by sculpting connections between neurons–
making new connections, strengthening some connections, weakening or removing others." His
team found that strength of connections could be manipulated by the addition or removal of
receptors from a synapse. When the mechanism for adding receptors is knocked out, memory
retention in mice was found to be impaired. They become forgetful; they can't retain memories for
very long.

We Propose A Novel Framework For Tweet Segmentation
Abstract–Twitter has become one of the most important communication channels with its ability
providing the most up–to–date and newsworthy information. Considering wide use of twitter as the
source of information, reaching an interesting tweet for user among a bunch of tweets is
challenging. A huge amount of tweets sent per day by hundred millions of users, information
overload is inevitable. For extracting information in large volume of tweets, Named Entity
Recognition (NER), methods on formal texts. However, many applications in Information Retrieval
(IR) and Natural Language Processing (NLP) suffer severely from the noisy and short nature of
tweets. In this paper, we propose a novel framework for tweet segmentation in a batch mode, called
HybridSeg by splitting tweets into meaningful segments, the semantic or context information is well
preserved and easily extracted by the downstream applications. HybridSeg finds the optimal
segmentation of a tweet by maximizing the sum of the stickiness scores of its candidate segments.
The stickiness score considers the probability of a segment being a phrase in English (i.e., global
context) and the probability of a segment being a phrase within the batch of tweets (i.e., local
context). For the latter, we propose and evaluate two models to derive local context by considering
the linguistic features and term–dependency in a batch of tweets, respectively. HybridSeg is also
designed to iteratively learn from confident segments as pseudo

Technology And The Impact Of Technology In Fahrenheit 451
From the mechanical hound to the giant TV's in the wall, technology in Fahrenheit 451 has proven
to have a large impact on their society. However, interactions between Montag, his wife, and his
wife's friends emphasize the awkward interactions. Jennifer Alsip complains about her daughter
ruining dinner time. Jennifer is infuriated that her daughter's phone keeps ringing during dinner time
and she always has the need to check it immediately (Wallace). The one technology that she bought
for her daughter is creating havoc in her house. Although technology has become more relevant in
today's society with computer science innovations and social media, the effects include people
becoming socially inept. Innovations in computer systems and social media have increased the
population of the audience. For example, "[the iPhone is] about 25 percent faster than the iPhone 7
and 80 percent faster than the iPhone 6S" (Manjoo). The improvements in the iPhone 8 compared to
the others is significant and handheld devices are becoming more accessible. From phones in the
wall's to only having home phones, the iPhone 8 is a huge improvement in convenience. Adding on,
the development in games on the phone and the computer provides entertainment for the general
public. One of the more popular games is League of Legends, has "67 million active monthly
players around the world and in August alone this crowd spent 122 million dollars" (Segal). The
popularity of the games illustrates the effectiveness of gaming on people. Instead of children going
out to parks and adults going out to socialize, they would rather much play video games at home.
This describes the various types of technological innovations affecting daily lives. Even though
innovations in computer science and social media is entertaining for the majority of the population,
it has led to people becoming socially awkward. Melissa Ortega, a psychologist for children at the
New York's Child Mind Institute, talks about how "[kids] don't know how to handle conflict face to
face because so many things happen through some sort of technology" (Bindley). Learning how to
socialize with workers and people on a daily basis is a skill that one needs to learn. However, as

The computer has been one of man's most influential inventions, paving the way for greater
achievements with time. Today, computers have become an essential component in fulfilling
everyday tasks in both our professional and personal lives. Computers are used to store vast
amounts of information, and even replace humans in factories throughout the world. We must now
ask ourselves, is this reliance on computers aiding the human mind in achieving its full potential or
rather replacing it and hindering our progress? Society has now become dependant on computers.

they aid us. They believe we have invented a machine with a greater and faster learning capacity
and soon there may be no need for us humans. Our sense of creativity and ingenuity is neither
needed nor utilized as we can easily use a computer application to achieve those once rare results by
that of human ingenuity. The internet through the use of the computer is now a medium for a
number of services, such as online chatting, social sites, and dating. Interactions between humans
have suffered with the use of these services. Those once memorable face–to–face moments have
been replaced by a few clicks of the keyboard and mouse. There are individuals who cannot survive
without the computer and in its absence suffer from depression and anxiety. In factories around the
world, there are computers doing the jobs of once hard working men and women. This not only
contributes to the unemployment rate, but also puts us in a position where we must question the
need for humans in the work place. Basic daily tasks are now unnecessarily achieved by the
computer and our children are no longer driven to improve on their mental and

Descriptive Essay On Computer Store
It's 8:59 A.M. on a Saturday, and I am waiting with my dad in his car. It is the only car in the strip
mall parking lot. I am antsy to get my repaired computer back to play games. A small silver car pulls
in next to us and out walks a college–aged guy that smells of a stale smoke. My dad hands me some
cash and I walk into the store behind the young guy as he turns on the lights of the computer store.
"You come to pick up a computer?" the young smoker asks me while he boots up the store's main
computer. He is polite and asks me questions about some of my hobbies; I tell him my fascination
with electronics and how I've been wanting to build my own computer. I glance around the store and
stare at the variety of computers, devices, and printers within the store. The printers are piled on top
of each other blanketed in a layer of dust. Parts are overflowing from the shelves, making a thin
walkable path throughout the store. Vast amounts of various computer components are scattered on
tables, and there is a stack of desktop computers piled to the ceiling. This store is a messy computer
museum! It's an unorganized chaos, but I am mesmerized. As I am waiting for the man to print my
bill, a middle aged man enters the store and heads straight to a private cubicle with privacy provided
by a sheet of plywood. He is immediately on the phone with an agitated voice with what must be a
customer, creating a sense of discomfort.

Master's Degree Application in Theory and Computational Science

  • 1. Application for Master Degree in Theory and Computational... In this ever changing world of computers, where computer systems grow more efficient, intelligent and complex, I find the in–depth study of computing concepts not only appealing but also indispensable. As I move ahead in the future, I strongly desire for a program that would help me build a comprehensive foundation in the field of Computer Science. Within this field, I have developed a deep interest in the area of Theory and Computational Science. More specifically I find algorithms and theory of computation the most appealing areas due to their application in solving many real world problems. My undergraduate course in the field of Electronics Engineering has given me a comprehensive exposure to all the core fields of computer science ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The project was successfully implemented and demonstrated during our final presentation. Throughout my professional career as a Java/J2EE Developer, I was involved in integrating diverse Java web technologies to create highly qualified web applications. Primarily my responsibilities included: Analyzing new business requirements, proposing technical solutions for design and implementation, coding and testing. For the 'Global Protein Separation' project, a web based application for our client GE–Healthcare at Tata Consultancy Services, I got the opportunity to work as a 'Project Leader'. I gained an understanding of the phases involved in developing a web application from scratch. The purpose was to migrate the system which existed in Oracle Forms to a browser based Java application incorporating new features and functional requirements.I was involved in designing the web interface, implementing MVC architecture using Struts2 framework, integrating security features and backend functionalities. As a project lead, I also exercised my managerial skills including supervising audit, project management and delivery. At Capgemini, I worked for our client, Morgan Stanley Investment Management as an Associate Consultant for a web based system named 'Carry Incentive Plan'. Here I learned about the field of banking and financial services. It exposed me to wide range of terminologies used in investment banking and their business. The project gave me an opportunity to ... • 2. Computer Science And Discourse Community Analysis Stevens Institute of Technology is a technically oriented university with a diverse set of majors not limited to just engineering. From engineering students to history majors, Stevens makes sure to highlight the importance of understanding technology in today's world. Computer science is one of the more prominent majors outside of the field of engineering and the Stevens freshmen in computer science have created a discourse community for all those taking entry level computer science courses. According to American Linguist John Swales, a discourse community is defined by a group of people with a means of entry maintained by following set goals and rules, as well as, communicating using genres and lexis unique to the community. It's unsurprising ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the GroupMe is the main form of communication of the group as a whole, there are other opportunities for members to interact. Often computer science students will hang out with each other and complain about or do work together. Any interactions between the members of the community contain several different lexicons of the group that range from using just the course number to refer to classes without the preceding letters to referring to certain instructors as "members of the cabal". The latter of the two comes from a homework assignment where students had to prove logically which instructors where part of the cabal, defined by the assignment as people plotting to make ridiculously hard quizzes that needed to be answered in ancient hieroglyphics. This term is also conversely used to point out which instructors are against the cabal. Another important lexicon is "you are your own baby" which comes from a lecture where it was proven that if everyone loves your baby and your baby loves no one but you, you are your own baby. This lexicon is also used as a meme within the community whenever things do not make sense. Other lexicons that are more normal, include anything related to programming such as "big oh notation" and "trees". Typically, people think of trees as big things with green leaves but to a computer science student it could also mean a data ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Difference Between Rsa And Mvp Classification Analysis And... 1.1 What is representational similarity analysis? Representational similarity analysis (RSA) is an analysis framework builds on a rich psychological and mathematical literature, in which multi–channel measures of neural activity are quantitatively related to each other and to computational theory and behavior by comparing RDMs. RDM is the representational dissimilarity matrix, which contains a cell for each pair of experimental conditions. Each cell is a number reflecting the dissimilarity between the activity patterns associated with the two conditions. The core of the of RSA is to use RDM as a signature of the representations in brain regions and computational models (Kriegeskorte, Mur, & Bandettini, 2008). 1.2 The differences between RSA and MVP classification analysis and the new information that can be obtained from representational similarity analysis that is not revealed by MVP classification or univariate analysis. RSA is a particular versatile version of MVPA. It goes beyond testing of information in regional response patterns and enables researchers to handle condition–rich experiments without predefined stimulus categories, to test conceptual and computational models, and to relate representations between humans and monkeys, and even to related across different types of brain activity measurements. 1.2.1 Major differences:

  • 5. Can We Create Brain Cells? The question was asked 'Is It Possible to Create an Artificial Brain'. A literature review of the following was done to explain this question. During this section I will revise and discuss this research to see if my question can be answered. Can we create brain cells? To be able to answer my question we must overcome the many barriers that stand in the way of it. One of these barriers being recreating human brain cells. In the literature review I wrote about the two types of brain cells that are found in the brain; neurons and glial cells. I then continued to write about the two different approaches to recreating these cells. Firstly I introduced the Astons university study where a group of researchers were able to isolate and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some disagree with this argument by saying that the embryo has no moral status as it is not fully a human being and so they believe no human life is destroyed in the embryonic stem cell extraction process. In my opinion I believe that they early embryo has no moral status and that it is a researcher 's duty to save or better the quality of human life by using these stem cells. I feel it is a moral obligation to treat and relieve people who are suffering of their pain. If we do not use stem cells we are delaying our journey to treating neurological diseases and going further to creating an artificial brain. There will always be a cost but we should accept it and continue working in a carefully regulated context because we know the benefits and how it can positively affect thousands of people 's lives. I also wrote about how the scientists at Karolinska Institutet had managed to build a fully functional neuron. This study aims to recreate brain cells in artificial ways unlike the study I have just discussed. The issues with this study are mostly focused on the size of the device they have created. Their artificial neuron is currently far too large to be able to implant into the human body. For this to work and be accessible to the public the scientists are going to have to miniaturise the device. The next issue will be making the device wireless so the person implanted ... • 6. Contributions Of The Human Genome Project Every research paper published today on life sciences have a last–author, who is mostly a computational biologist. The last–author may not actively involve in the research, but has contributed in more fundamental and important areas, without which the experiment might remain invalid and thus unpublished. What do the computational biologists do? What important thing(s) they added to research paper that make the papers valid? The least and most simple thing that the computational biologists do is biostatistics. A validity of biological experiment is determined by statistical data. Computational biologists taken biology into account build many different software for calculation required for biostatistics. These software ease biologists' lives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This computer technology is useless without data from the physical world. Today, computational biology has thrived forward to a new level where biologists do experiments totally in the virtual world and take them into account and make them usable for further study or for drawing a conclusion about a subject. For example, in real world, biologists, or more precisely evolutionary biologists, can't predict evolution and are unable to go back to the time or to repeat the same path that has led to today's world. Through computer simulation or program, biologists can have a look through the evolutionary pathway that had been followed long time ago and made today's world. One of the theory of adaptation is exaptation. Survival of the fittest determined the adaptation and thus evolution of new species. "Some evolutionary innovations may originate non–adaptively as exaptation, or pre–adaptations, which are by–product of other adaptive traits" (Barve and Wagner, 2013). It has been known that birds got their feathers for flight from dinosaurs, and some proteins change into lens because of their ability to refract light. In a nutshell, exaptation is the result of adaptation from traits that were evolved for something different at first, which later causes innovative changes and give adaptation for a different trait. Barve and Wagener used novel computational methods in their research. They randomly sample different metabolic pathways that can sustain life in any given carbon ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Computer Science In Education Essay Only 5% of United States high schools teach computer science, the study of the principles and use of computers, despite its critical importance. Even as the enrollment in science, technology, engineering, and math classes have increased in the past 20 years, the number of students enrolled in computer science has actually decreased. This can be attributed to the neglect exhibited by schools on computer science. In these 20 years, 1 billion computers have been built which makes computer science "integrated": so baked into human life that it is not surprising to encounter, with social, technological, and futuristic aspects of the world. Unlike other integrated disciplines such as English or math, computer science is not a required course in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Universities are already starting to require computer science classes, but this creates the question: How should computer science courses be implemented in education before University? An optimal solution must teach social problem solving skills, increase the functionality of technology, and provide an understanding of the future. The time at which computer science is introduced must also be considered to ensure students have enough prior background knowledge in other related disciplines and a basic understanding of what computer can and cannot do. In order to properly implement computer science in education, it should be required in high school education and teach the ubiquitous relationship that computer science has with the social, technological, and futuristic aspects of the world. Computer science is bound to have social impacts because of its ubiquitous nature. The most influential of these impacts is the introduction of computational thinking. Computational Thinking is a process that generalizes a solution to open ended problems. Open–ended problems encourage full, meaningful answers based on multiple variables, which are derived using abstraction and automation. When solving open ended problems, computer scientists abstract notions from both the physical and theoretical worlds. • 8. Application Of Computational Geometry On View Application of Computational Geometry on View Planning Name: Pravakar Roy Student ID:4927267 Graduate Student Department of Computer Science University of Minnesota, Twin Cities April 27, 2015 Abstract View planning is a crucial part of building vision system for autonomous robots or critical coverage problems. In computational geometry the problem of covering/guarding a region is known as the art gallery theorem. The version where static guards are re– placed by mobile guards is known as the watchman route theorem. Both these classic theorem adopts the straight line notion of visibility which is impractical for real world sensors. In this work we review the existing techniques for solving the classical ver– sion of these problems and also discuss the modi cations needed to handle real world sensors. We also discuss some recent methods that takes physical visibility constraints into account. 1 Introduction Producing autonomous robots that can operate without any sort of human intervention is one of the ultimate goals in robotics [42]. Such robots should be capable of exploring their environment, interpret the surroundings and act accordingly. Vision is clearly one of the most critical capability such a robot must have to act autonomously. When exploring an unknown environment, a robot is rst required to extract information about the surroundings. Following this exploration, it should be able to carry out speci c task such as nding potentially hazardous materials in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Future And Future Of Implants Future of Implants When I asked Dr. Marko about what he thinks will happen to implants in the future he stated: "I expect that it will expand." He explained that "current DBS technologies are seeing expanding indications for more and more diseases with good results. But beyond this, there are whole new domains of brain implants coming online and in the research pipeline. These include the whole field of brain–computer interface, which allows the brain to control machines (e.g. prosthetic limbs). This is very promising, and some examples are already making it to real–world application. Additional implants designed to improve memory, etc. are also being developed. The future of those is less certain, but I suspect they will improve and start to see practical application as time goes on" [Marko]. One strong belief about the future of implants is that they will significantly reduce in size; nanoscale implants will be fully developed and will be comprised of materials with increased longevity so that there will be no need of additional surgeries for repair or replacements. With continued research and development of implants and advancements are made as a result of the Blue Brain Project, implants will be able to mend the symptoms of a larger range of diseases. This is extremely important, for millions of people will regain their abilities that were taken from them by a disease. Currently, deep brain stimulation implants focus on enhancing motor functions or mood. The deep ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Personal Statement For Women Personal Statement "Stop studying math so hard, girl. How will math help you?" My high school classmate Yijie jeered at me when I told him I wanted to major in mathematics and computer science. "Such complex subjects are just not suitable for women." Although Yijie was not an old–fashioned person, he insisted that women were inferior in high technology fields. In my country, China, this gender stereotype still affects women's lives, from major placement decision to their career path choice. I strongly oppose this constraining opinion, and firmly believe that women are capable to make great achievements in modern high technology as men do. Therefore, I made up my mind to show people that women can also succeed in mathematics and computer science. I have been committed to mathematics and computing since I was young. My parents are both accountants. They taught me a lot math and computer skills in my childhood. Their love and passion towards math and computing had a huge impact on me. As I went to school, math and computer science immediately attracted me. Its logicality and challenge gave me a deep sense of satisfaction. I enjoyed challenging fixed answers and finding new ways to solve problems. Compared to my peers, I always understood math and computer problems faster and more accurately. Furthermore, I fortunately had a great woman math teacher in my junior high school. As she discovered my devotion and potential in math, she encouraged me to join competitions and ... Cars, ATMs, and TVs we use everyday, and all contain computers. It is for this reason that computers and their software have to become more intelligent to make our lives easier and computers more accessible. Intelligent computer systems can and do benefit us all; however people have constantly warned that making computers too intelligent can be to our disadvantage. This field studies the designs of intelligent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Expert systems are also known as knowledge based systems. These systems rely on a basic set of rules for solving specific problems and are capable of learning. The laws are defined for the system by experts and then implemented using if–then rules. These systems basically imitate the expert's thoughts in solving the problem. An example of this is a system that diagnosis medical conditions. The doctor would input the symptoms to the computer system and it would then ask more questions if need or give diagnoses. Other examples include banking systems for acceptance of loans, advanced calculators, and weather predictions. Natural language systems interact allow computers to interact with the user in their usual language. They accept, interpret, and execute the commands in this language. The attempt is to allow a more natural interaction between the computer and user. Language is sometimes thought to be the foundation of intelligence in humans. Therefore, it is reasonable for intelligent systems to be able to understand language. Some of these systems are advanced enough to hold conversations. A system that emulates human senses uses human sensory simulation. These can include methods of sight, sound, and touch. A very common implementation of this intelligence is in voice recognition software. It listens to what the user says, interprets the sounds, and displays the information on the screen. These are ... Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) pro– posed by Huang et al.[1], is an effective machine learning technique for real valued classification. ELMis a single hidden layer feedfo5 rward network in which the weights between input and hidden layer are initialized randomly. ELM uses analytical approach to compute weights between hidden and output layer [2], which makes it faster compared to other gradient based classifiers ([3, 4]). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... are some of the complex valued classifiers designed for real valued classification problems. CCELM out– performs other complex valued classifiers for real valued classification problems. It also performs well when dataset is imbalanced. 35 It has been observed that many practical classification problems have imbalanced data sets[23, 24]. If we classify such data, most of the classifiers favours the majority class due to which most of the instances belonging to minority class are misclassified. To deal with such dataset, various sampling approaches [25] as well as algorithmic approaches are used. Sampling approaches includes over 40 sampling and undersampling techniques. Oversampling replicates a fraction of minority samples while undersampling approach reduces a fraction of majority samples to make dataset balanced. But there is problem with sampling approaches. Oversampling [26] increases redundancy of data and undersampling results in loss of information. In algorithmic approach, classifier design 45 encompasses the measures to handle class imbalance. Most of the neural network based classifiers like FCRBF [4, 3],CCELM[9] minimizes least square error to find optimal weights. Recently proposed WELM minimizes weighted least square error function to find optimal weights between hidden and output layer. In this classifier, residuals of minority ... • 13. A Study On The Mapping Process Of Mapping The Coordinates... ABSTRACT Named entity disambiguation is a very interesting problem having wide ranging applications. It is the process of mapping the mentions of persons, organisations, events etc. in textual documents to real world entities. The mapping process becomes tedious when these mentions in the text are commonly used to describe more than one real world entities. It is then said that the mention is ambiguous. If the mentions can be correctly mapped to the corresponding real world entities, then it can lead to a more informative and intuitive web experience where the textual documents can be linked to other knowledge bases which contain more information on various entities described in the document. In this report, we have surveyed well known research papers in the field of named entity disambiguation and have described the approaches suggested in them. Successive sections of report aim to solve the shortcomings of the algorithms discussed in the previous sections. INTRODUCTION The recent years have seen a huge increase in the number of online documents. This has resulted in a huge amount of information being available at the click of a mouse. But, at the same time, the retrieval of relevant information from this collection of unstructured documents has emerged as a challenging task and is a topic of research. • 14. Rabbit and Wolves Lab Essay "Rabbits and wolves" Introduction The computer simulation named "Rabbits and wolves" is about models and simple systems. In the simulation, there are three main organisms, rabbits, wolves and grass all put together in a forest ecosystem. An ecosystem is a set of organism within a defined area or volume that interact with one another and with their environment (Miller & Spoolman). A system is a collection of elements or components that are organized for a common purpose (Rouse, 2005). The purpose of this simulation is to see how these three organisms will interact with one another in the same environment. We will see how the populations of these organisms change by modifying parameters specific to each organism and how changing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 'Machine Learning is a sub discipline of Computer Science that has evolved from Pattern Recognition and Computational Learning Theory.' ML is akin to Data Mining in the sense that both approaches look for patterns in the data set and while the former trains the program to better its understanding, the latter focuses on extraction of data for human comprehension. A typical application employing ML would involve the design and construction of an algorithm where the program is trained through huge samples of historical data to create a model. This model is later utilized on real time data sets to predict what happens next. While Machine Learning itself has been around for decades, it has found itself into reckoning with the advent of Big ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Amazon Web Services S3 or Microsoft's Azure are few amongst the various cloud services currently available that allow users to store massive amounts data at unbelievably low costs. With massive data at disposal comes the huge potential to analyze this data to draw inferences or predict future events. But why exactly is Machine Learning moving to the cloud? A compelling reason to move to the cloud would be the varying computational requirements in the ML lifecycle. The process of training/ retraining your model requires enormous computation power and resources, while the process of utilizing your trained models does not require any resources. The varying workload of the ML lifecycle makes it an ideal candidate for the cloud. Cloud Computing is a powerful technology that allows complex computations on massive scale data by eliminating the need to maintain dedicated storage space or maintain expensive hardware. Also it follows intuitively to train your models in the cloud where the data is stored. Prior to the advent of cloud based ML platforms, the only way to do advanced analytics was to purchase packages such as SAS or IBM's SPSS or resort to tools like R. The cloud based platforms make Machine Learning more accessible to a large group of users who intend to deploy predictive models in order to enhance their products or services. Along my path to deciding that I wanted to major in computer science, I faced many obstacles and was a part of many experiences that pushed me towards this field. Some events would be as simple as my family designating me the honorary "Tech Guy" or my friends coming to me for advice on their computers. Those things are what sparked my interest. Then came my first coding class. It was one of the most difficult things I have ever done and it was so immense. So many commands and combinations and it just didn't seem to make sense. The first instance of a dSp diastereomer difference was reported from our laboratory when Klenow Fragment (exo–) was allowed to insert dATP opposite the isomers for which dSp1–containing ODNs were found to be the more favorable substrate for insertion and bypass.32 This study was extended to in vivo experiments by Neeley, et al. to include pol II and pol IV, also showing more favorable bypass kinetics for dSp1.34 As further evidence for in vivo stereochemical dependency in dSp processing, Henderson, et al. utilized the restriction endonuclease and postlabeling assay (REAP) to determine the mutation profiles for dSp1 and dSp2 in Escherichia coli.28 In the sequence context 5'–d(GSpA)–3', they found a strong stereochemical dependence in the relative amounts of dG→dT and dG→dC transversion mutations for dSp1 and dSp2. In subsequent experiments, Delaney, et al. showed a somewhat different dependence of mutation profiles on the dSp diastereomers in the sequence context 5'–(TSpG)–3' using the REAP and competitive replication of adduct bypass assays (CRAB).29,30 An additional observation from our laboratory quantified the digestion kinetics of dSp isomers in the dinucleotides 5'–d(Np[Sp])–3' (N = A, T, G or C) by nuclease P1 that showed dSp1 was the kinetically preferred substrate in all sequence combinations.33 Lastly, in collaboration ... Mechanical And Transport Properties Of Cellular Solids Abstract This work presents a novel formulation for a Voronoi–type cellular material with in–plane anisotropic behaviour, showing global positive and negative Poisson's ratio effects under uniaxial tensile loading. The effects of the cell geometry and relative density over the global stiffness, equivalent in–plane Poisson's ratios and shear modulus of the Voronoi–type structure are evaluated with a parametric analysis. Empirical formulas are identified to reproduce the mechanical trends of the equivalent homogeneous orthotropic material representing the Voronoi–type structure and its geometry parameters. Keywords Lattice structures; Elastic behaviour; Simulation; Finite element analysis 1. Introduction The mechanical and transport properties of cellular solids have been traditionally modeled using periodic unit cells representative volumes. Examples of these unit cell topologies are the hexagonal prismatic and quadrilateral centrosymmetric ones (Gibson and Ashby, 1997), Kelvin lattices (Choi and Lakes, 1995, Zhu et al., 1997, Warren and Kraynik, 1997, Mills, 2005, Gong et al., 2005 and Weaire, 2008). In particular, we worked out the effects of correlations in many–body systems as manifested in spectroscopic quantities. The advantages of the NEGF formalism and the underlying powerful machinery of the MBPT inspired us to develop the formal NEGF theory of photoemission further with our work [E3]. We elucidated the connection of the formal concepts of the FPA to the standard MBPT, allowing for a practical implementation of the theory. The main advances were achieved by the extension of the theoretical description of DPE, which we advocate as a very useful sensor for the many facets of correlations in many–body systems. The effective electron–electron interaction in more complex systems comprises, besides the Coulomb repulsion, fluctuation–mediated effects due to the dynamical environment. As an important example, we focused on dynamical screening mediated by charge–density fluctuations. We have chosen the buckminster fullerene as a concrete system for its pronounced plasmon resonances and generally rich physics. In our work [E4] we rigorously categorised the collective modes, based on full–fledged ab initio calculations, with the help of the NMF. The obtained model for DD response function – whose accuracy is corroborated by comparing to EELS data – was then employed to characterise the dynamically screened interaction in the C60 molecule. With these tools at hand, we were able to elucidate the role of electronic correlations mediated by the density oscillations in DPE in our joint theoretical and experimental work [E5]. The distinct feature of the experiment – the significant narrowing of the coincidence spectrum – is in agreement with our ab initio description and so endorses the plasmon–assisted DPE due to as a novel aspect of releasing two correlated electrons from complex ... The developments and integration of computer science curriculum in K–12 education is better understood by observing the current impact that technology has made on students, and exploring the perspectives of teachers and administrators on technology integration and the expansion of computer curriculum. It is also important to understand what taxpayers and the public expect out of public schools, and how curriculum writers and educational agencies are working to better equip schools with resources with respect to computer education and computer science. In the following paragraphs I will explore various articles from established individuals in both the educational and computer science industries, and I will apply their opinions and research to the stakeholders above. To better understand some of the articles I have selected for this paper, it is important to understand some special terminology used to describe some aspects of the role computer ... • 36. The Future Of Neuroscience : From Sci Fi The future of neuroscience: from sci–fi to reality Billions of football fans around the world were amazed in the summer of 2014, when 29 years old Brazilian Juliano Pinto [1], who was paralyzed from waist down, was able to kick a football to ceremonially open the World Cup. Pinto made the kick while wearing a robotic exoskeleton controlled by his brain. The high–tech demonstration was orchestrated by Duke University neuroscientist Miguel Nicolelis, as part of the Walk Again Project [2], to develop and implement a brain–machine interface to allow severely paralyzed patients to regain mobility. The sight of such futuristic technology straight out of the Iron Man movie becoming a reality is simply exhilarating. The human brain has often been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We are now entering the golden age of neuroscience. Current efforts So how are we beginning to understand the way the brain works? The same way we begin to understand a city: by making maps. The invention of the MRI machine and other high tech scans and tests, such as functional MRI, two–photon imaging and multi–electrode recording has allowed scientists to observe and record the activities in specific areas of the brain, and even probe the nature of thoughts itself. It is now possible to see how neurons respond when an animal is learning something and forming new circuits. Targeted genetic manipulations of receptors that scientists believe are important in learning and memory are also providing a great deal of information. In an interview [5], Rick Huganir, Chair of the Solomon H. Snyder Department of Neuroscience, explained: "Learning creates new circuits in the brain by sculpting connections between neurons– making new connections, strengthening some connections, weakening or removing others." His team found that strength of connections could be manipulated by the addition or removal of receptors from a synapse. When the mechanism for adding receptors is knocked out, memory retention in mice was found to be impaired. They become forgetful; they can't retain memories for very long. • 37. We Propose A Novel Framework For Tweet Segmentation Abstract–Twitter has become one of the most important communication channels with its ability providing the most up–to–date and newsworthy information. Considering wide use of twitter as the source of information, reaching an interesting tweet for user among a bunch of tweets is challenging. A huge amount of tweets sent per day by hundred millions of users, information overload is inevitable. For extracting information in large volume of tweets, Named Entity Recognition (NER), methods on formal texts. However, many applications in Information Retrieval (IR) and Natural Language Processing (NLP) suffer severely from the noisy and short nature of tweets. In this paper, we propose a novel framework for tweet segmentation in a batch mode, called HybridSeg by splitting tweets into meaningful segments, the semantic or context information is well preserved and easily extracted by the downstream applications. HybridSeg finds the optimal segmentation of a tweet by maximizing the sum of the stickiness scores of its candidate segments. The stickiness score considers the probability of a segment being a phrase in English (i.e., global context) and the probability of a segment being a phrase within the batch of tweets (i.e., local context). For the latter, we propose and evaluate two models to derive local context by considering the linguistic features and term–dependency in a batch of tweets, respectively. HybridSeg is also designed to iteratively learn from confident segments as pseudo ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Technology And The Impact Of Technology In Fahrenheit 451 From the mechanical hound to the giant TV's in the wall, technology in Fahrenheit 451 has proven to have a large impact on their society. However, interactions between Montag, his wife, and his wife's friends emphasize the awkward interactions. Jennifer Alsip complains about her daughter ruining dinner time. Jennifer is infuriated that her daughter's phone keeps ringing during dinner time and she always has the need to check it immediately (Wallace). The one technology that she bought for her daughter is creating havoc in her house. Although technology has become more relevant in today's society with computer science innovations and social media, the effects include people becoming socially inept. Innovations in computer systems and social media have increased the population of the audience. For example, "[the iPhone is] about 25 percent faster than the iPhone 7 and 80 percent faster than the iPhone 6S" (Manjoo). The improvements in the iPhone 8 compared to the others is significant and handheld devices are becoming more accessible. From phones in the wall's to only having home phones, the iPhone 8 is a huge improvement in convenience. Adding on, the development in games on the phone and the computer provides entertainment for the general public. One of the more popular games is League of Legends, has "67 million active monthly players around the world and in August alone this crowd spent 122 million dollars" (Segal). The popularity of the games illustrates the effectiveness of gaming on people. Instead of children going out to parks and adults going out to socialize, they would rather much play video games at home. This describes the various types of technological innovations affecting daily lives. Even though innovations in computer science and social media is entertaining for the majority of the population, it has led to people becoming socially awkward. Melissa Ortega, a psychologist for children at the New York's Child Mind Institute, talks about how "[kids] don't know how to handle conflict face to face because so many things happen through some sort of technology" (Bindley). Learning how to socialize with workers and people on a daily basis is a skill that one needs to learn. However, as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Is Society Becoming too Dependent on Computers Essay The computer has been one of man's most influential inventions, paving the way for greater achievements with time. Today, computers have become an essential component in fulfilling everyday tasks in both our professional and personal lives. Computers are used to store vast amounts of information, and even replace humans in factories throughout the world. We must now ask ourselves, is this reliance on computers aiding the human mind in achieving its full potential or rather replacing it and hindering our progress? Society has now become dependant on computers. How does this machine affect our youth and learning process? We have invented a machine with a greater, and faster learning capacity as our own. A new generation has risen that have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many supporters from this group also point out that the computer can be controlled and that computers are only as smart as we allow them to be, by themselves computers are quite dependant machines. Supporters of the anti–computer usage group state that computers hinder us more than they aid us. They believe we have invented a machine with a greater and faster learning capacity and soon there may be no need for us humans. Our sense of creativity and ingenuity is neither needed nor utilized as we can easily use a computer application to achieve those once rare results by that of human ingenuity. The internet through the use of the computer is now a medium for a number of services, such as online chatting, social sites, and dating. Interactions between humans have suffered with the use of these services. Those once memorable face–to–face moments have been replaced by a few clicks of the keyboard and mouse. There are individuals who cannot survive without the computer and in its absence suffer from depression and anxiety. In factories around the world, there are computers doing the jobs of once hard working men and women. This not only contributes to the unemployment rate, but also puts us in a position where we must question the need for humans in the work place. Basic daily tasks are now unnecessarily achieved by the computer and our children are no longer driven to improve on their mental and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Descriptive Essay On Computer Store It's 8:59 A.M. on a Saturday, and I am waiting with my dad in his car. It is the only car in the strip mall parking lot. I am antsy to get my repaired computer back to play games. A small silver car pulls in next to us and out walks a college–aged guy that smells of a stale smoke. My dad hands me some cash and I walk into the store behind the young guy as he turns on the lights of the computer store. "You come to pick up a computer?" the young smoker asks me while he boots up the store's main computer. He is polite and asks me questions about some of my hobbies; I tell him my fascination with electronics and how I've been wanting to build my own computer. I glance around the store and stare at the variety of computers, devices, and printers within the store. The printers are piled on top of each other blanketed in a layer of dust. Parts are overflowing from the shelves, making a thin walkable path throughout the store. Vast amounts of various computer components are scattered on tables, and there is a stack of desktop computers piled to the ceiling. This store is a messy computer museum! It's an unorganized chaos, but I am mesmerized. As I am waiting for the man to print my bill, a middle aged man enters the store and heads straight to a private cubicle with privacy provided by a sheet of plywood. He is immediately on the phone with an agitated voice with what must be a customer, creating a sense of discomfort. "Justin?" He asks me but I don't hear him, "Is your name ...
