• Welcome to a new school year and Freshman English. I hope to guide
you through another year of academic growth. 9th grade is the biggest
transition of high school, and together we will prepare you to have a
successful year. I believe that this is a team effort, and consistent
home/school communication will assist you in staying on the path to
success.
3. My Educational Philosophy :
*All students can learn however, every student learns differently.
*We are in this together
*You have a responsibility to learn and it is my responsibility to instill the
love of learning in you!
Students must accept responsibility for their education, decisions, and
actions.
4. Materials:
• You are to come to class everyday with the following supplies:
sharpened pencils, blue or black ink pens, loose leaf paper, folder (3
prong & 2 pockets), highlighters, textbook (issued by the school), and
library or personal reading book.
5. Work Completion
Not completing assignments is not an option.
• There are no shortcuts to excellence.
• See handbook for OFFICIAL policy.
• All assignments are to be completed by the assigned due date. Late work will BE
penalized, beginning with a 10% deduction of points earned one day after the
original due date.
6. Homework:
• Homework will be assigned at least 3 times a week.
• 1 night will be independent reading on an assigned novel, questions to
assess your comprehension will be given in the class the next day.
• The other 2 days will be an extension of class, skills we covered that day.
7. *Students must attend class daily in order to be successful!
*3 unexcused tardies equal an absence.
*It is up to you to ask for your make up work.
*The number of days missed from school, are the number of days you
have to make up your assignments.

8. Grading Scale according to the handbook:
• 90- 100 =A
• 89-80 = B
• 79-70 = C
• 69-60 = D
• 59-0 = F
9. *Come to class prepared and ready to learn everyday.
*Respect others and their property.
*Raise your hand before you speak or to get permission to leave your seat.
*No cell phone use.
*No profanity!
10. Dress Code:
You must adhere to the dress code; no exceptions!
• Uniform shirts must be polo or golf style. Colors may include: White,
Green, or Gold.
• No “saggy” pants and if they have a belt loop, you must have on a
belt.
• Shirts must be tucked at all times, girls and boys.
• No opened toe shoes.
• Pants, shorts, or skirts must be tan and no more than 2 inches above
the knee.
• If in doubt, do not wear it.
