Grading
Grading Scale 100%-90%= A, 89%-80%= B, 79%-70%=C,
69%-60%= D, 59%-0%=F
Grades: Grades are made up of a combination of class work,
homework, quizzes and test grades.
Assessments: Tests are always announced ahead of time.
There will be a weekly spelling test, given on Friday, covering
the words the students get on Monday. A timed multiplication
test is given every Friday as well as a reading test covering
the current story in Reader’s Workshop. Math Investigations,
Science and Social Studies tests are given upon completion of
the unit.
Parent Portal: Grades will be updated weekly. This is your
best tool for checking your child’s progress.

Classroom Policies
Absences/Tardies/Early Dismissals: Our lessons are
planned until 2:55 each day, please attempt to make all
appointments at a time where your child can be at school
as long as possible each day. If your child is absent or
tardy, please ensure that you send in a note to
excuse their absence. We will keep all notes in your
child’s file. Duval County does have an attendance policy
that you can find in the student Code of Conduct as well as
on the county website. Excessive absences will be
contacted by the Truancy Office.
Homework: Students will have homework every night
except Friday. There will be occasions where they may
have a project that requires them to work on it during the
weekend. After finishing their homework students should
study for upcoming tests. Homework is due as indicated by
each teacher.

Communication
Agendas: We will record their daily conduct grade
and make notes regarding outstanding or in some
cases, inappropriate behavior. This is our primary
source of communication for homework
assignments & behavior issues and is very useful if
used effectively. Please check and sign your child’s
agenda each night. Classroom news and updates
will be emailed on a bi-weekly basis. We will also
utilize Remind to communicate. We have printed
instructions for you to take with you so that you
may join.
5. Conferences
Conferences are held before or after school
with a 24 hour notice. Please avoid conference
requests for Monday mornings and Friday
afternoons.
“Drop-in” conferences are not an effective
method of communicating with your child’s
teachers.
Conferences can be scheduled by phone, email
or by writing a note in your child’s agenda.
6. Clip Chart
Discipline: Our school currently utilizes the “Clip Chart”. The
clip chart is color coded with various important words found in a
specific color. STAR STUDENT is red, EXCELLENT DAY is orange,
GOOD JOB is yellow, READY TO LEARN is green, MAKE BETTER
CHOICES is blue, TEACHER CHOICE is purple, and PARENT
CONTACT is pink. At the beginning of every day all students start
in the middle of the chart on green, “Ready to Learn”. Each child
has a clothes pin with his/her name which is clipped to the color
green. Throughout the day children can move up or down the
clip chart according to the child’s behavior. At the end of the day,
the color that your child’s clip is on, is the behavior grade for the
day
7. One Million Word Challenge!
1 Million Word Reading Challenge: One of the
standards for each child in 4th grade is that they read 1
million words, that equals about 25 books over the year
with 125 pages = 1 book. We will have a Reading
Celebration at the end of the year to reward all of the
students who have meet this goal. 25 books must be
read by May 15th in order for the student to attend the
Reading Celebration. The books need to be logged
monthly with the Monthly Book Log. Ms. Snyder has a
bulletin board in her room dedicated to logging and
keeping track of the books read by each student. When
each student reaches their 25 book goal, Ms. Snyder will
also award them a a special prize! So keep logging those
books! The top reader in each class will also earn a gift
certificate to Barnes and Noble!
