• Sophisticated facilities are required.
• Demands greater skill in handling and maintenance
than conventional techniques.
• Shoot-tip derived plants may show genetic instability,
E.g. 6-35% of banana clones developed through shoot
tip culture show morphological variation.
• Chromosomal abnormalities appear as undesirable
changes.

• Cost of equipments is expensive for the production on
a large scale.
• Productivity is very variable and is dependent on the
type of species sometimes it needs trial and error type
of experiments if there is not any review about the
respective species.
• Procedure needs special attention and diligently done
observation.

• There may b error in the identity of organisms after
culture.
• Infections may continue through generations.
• The setting up of a plant tissue culture is very
expensive including its machines and reagents.
• If all the plants are genetically similar then there
would be a decrease in the genetic diversity.

• The experiments must be handled by highly trained
people as the procedures require special care.
• If a plant is susceptible to disease all the plants of this
clones stock will share this undesirable trait.
• The hole stock may be contaminated while not taking
care of precautions.
• Decreased genetic variability.
