2. IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE,
DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND
CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?
In my front cover it continues to follow the many conventions of having the cover lines and the simple format
of a magazine. However it does challenge conventions :
ā¢The masthead ā the positioning and the illustration breaks conventions as the āGā has been rotated to look
more playful and whilst fitting the others parts of the words into the masthead without looking boring towards the
audience. Because some Gospel magazines and magazines in general do not have to parts to a masthead
and are shown in that format.
ā¢The main image ā has more than one model in the magazine which different compared to many other Gospel
magazines. The use of having three allows gives the reader more of an understanding on what the genre is.
Also the main models in the image are not showing the direct address towards the audience because that is
how they interpret the gospel through singing to god.
3. IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE,
DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND
CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?
ā¢ In my contents page is challenges conventions through :
ā¢ Headline: The headline follows the conventional theme of using the word āContentsā however the
illustration of the word is different as half of the word has been rotated side ways making the words
look as if it has been cut off. Which adapted the page to look less bring and more appealing and
youthful.
ā¢ Format of the contents: The page has been done show
the new and old adaptations of contents pages. Because
there were hardly an Gospel contents pages to research
and the ones that I had seen was plastered with writing I
used four pictures. The first three were used to in relation
to the separate boxes which had certain cover lines. And
the pictures was made larger with no cover line because
the usage of writing is not always necessary as my
audience will not be likely to read all of the cover lines
4. IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT
USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND
CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?
ā¢ My double page spread challenges conventions through:
ā¢ The main image: Even though the double page spread is based on an artist and written the form of an
interview many magazines seems to only show the artist and using direct address. However this image
shows the reflection the artist on how she would like to been and it continues to reinforce how many youth
and artist interpret and show the Gospel. Whilst showing various other youth in the midst of the gospel to look
more effect on the genre and the story.
The headline: Many Gospel magazines headlines are very small and simple.
however my headline is effective and simple but more extensive on the meaning.
Furthermore the headline has been illustrated to intertwine using the colour grey to
show and reinforce how there is only 3 rows and harsh red to enhance the
meaning of the story.
5. HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT REPRESENT
PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS?
In all of my media products I used positive representations of the youth because to attract
the youth I had display their certain interest to attract them to read the magazine. In some
areas of my media products I used certain stereotypes because there are certain aspects
everyone in general enjoys about the Gospel for example : singing, concerts and Gospel
artists.
ā¢ My Front cover targets my audience in various ways for example:
ā¢ The main image : Show 3 youths that are involved in the Gospel singing in robes which many
young youth take part in within their churches.
ā¢ The cover lines: Are simple and direct cover lines about the Gospel and about various
competitions and awards that will intrigue the readers into finding out about more. As most
youth that are interested into the Gospel always want to part take or be involved events of the
Gospel such as concerts.
ā¢ Masthead: Is very playful and different from other Gospel magazines made for the older
generation. This masthead will attract a younger audience because it projects a more youthful
and fun look.
6. HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT REPRESENT
PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS?
ā¢ My contents page targets my audience in various ways for example:
ā¢ The format: The main cover lines and story are shown with boxes and the rest of the stories
within the magazine are shown at the side in the features section. Showing a difference
between images and text which will appeal to reader as it shows a variety.
ā¢ The images: Are explicitly displayed to instantly attract the audience on the story. Also the
image also identifies with the reader as they may also be involved surrounding that topic or
may be interested into that topic.
7. HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT REPRESENT
PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS?
ā¢ My Double page spread targets my audience in various ways for example:
ā¢ The main image: Differs from other magazines in general as it only creates a focus on the
main model which a Gospel artist which gives allows the audience to identify straight away
who the artists . And because there are other youth in the background its allows the audience
feel a sense of belonging towards being involved in the Gospel.
ā¢ Format: Illustrated into a interview as many youth in general are not interested into reading
articles about artists but the interview is straight forward and simple with the use of question
and answer.
Headline: Is presented into such a style that attracts
the audience straight away as most Gospel headlines are
not presented in this manner. Also because it hints instantly
to the reader about the story and the topic.
8. WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION MIGHT
DISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT AND WHY?
ā¢ I have chosen to use Christianity Today as the publisher for these reasons:
Considering the research that I have undertaken, it
shown certain elements which need to be addressed
which are:
ļ¼Size of my target audience
ļ¼The interest of target audience
ļ¼Convince of where they would see the magazine
The CEO of the
Because of the popularity of having 6 publications will cause an company. Christianity
attraction. Even though the target audience for their publications are Today International is
for an older audience it will attract people more because it one of the Harold. B Smith
first Gospel with a younger audience and the those people that
already buy their magazine they can mention my magazine to people
of a younger audience.
9. WHO WOULD BE MY AUDIENCE FOR YOUR MEDIA
PRODUCTS?
ā¢ My target audience is aimed at people aged 16-20 that are have interests or enjoy Gospel
music
ā¢ My target audience is unisex because all the topics and interest that are associated with the
Gospel is aimed at everyone.
ā¢ The standard income group would be between c-e because most of target audience would be
students that are in school or, university; so for that reason the price of the magazine is Ā£2.00.
ā¢ Some interests they may have in the Gospel is :
ā¢ Concerts
ā¢ Gospel artists
ā¢ Competitions
10. HOW DID YOU ATTRACT/ ADDRESS YOUR
AUDIENCE ?
ā¢ I attracted my audience in numerous ways such as:
ā¢ Colour scheme: The colours I used were purple, white and black with some red in the Double
page spread. I used a mixture of colours due to the target audience being unisex.
ā¢ Masthead/ headlines: Firstly the masthead looked youthful and exciting compared to many other
Gospel magazines that look very simple and boring. Furthermore the headlines that I have used in
the contents page and the double page spread look continue the unconventional look of Gospel
headlines and masthead as it looks more appealing and interesting to the audience.
ā¢ Cover lines: The cover lines that were used throughout all my media products show the interests
and issues that many youth face today that will intrigue my target audience such as Concerts,
artists, awards, love and many more.
ā¢ Format / style: The format of my front cover is very simple and direct on the cover lines and the
contents page and double page spread so various pictures and cover lines that will convince my
target audience to go to that page. As the double page spread looks interesting and exciting and is
placed in the format of an interview which is attract most of readers.
11. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT TECHNOLOGIES
FROM THE PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTING THE
PRODUCT?
ā¢ Also I know the difference between using Photoshop and InDesign. As I used Photoshop for
some of mock ups and not for my production as I did do for my front cover during the
preliminary task. Because the alignment and the construction will not look professional
compared to using InDesign.
12. LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PRELIMINARY TASK
WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ?
ā¢ When I did my preliminary task I was not really confident in using InDesign and Photoshop
whilst understanding the why I needed to use those certain effects or grids.
ā¢ But since then in the construction of my media products I have learned the reason for using a
baseline and document. As well as using the grid lines for my media products, which helped
the alignment of my cover lines and masthead e.t.c.
