This document discusses genre elements for a short film. It begins by stating that elements of horror and thriller will be shown near the end to build suspense. 2. HORROR AND THRILLER
• In our short film we decided that the element of horror and thriller would be shown through
out the film however we later discussed that we would illustrate the element of horror and
thriller near end to show the build to the climax where the assault is committed. Because
we felt that it would be very tedious and just be very boring but when the element of
horror is displayed near the end it will leave that element of suspense and the act
committed in the climax in the minds of the audience.

• Basement
Amongst other feature films to show the elements of horror and film to see how we can adapt
the films and the research we have done to our short film.

In many horror and thriller films the camera shot used is
the point of view shot which used especially in this film to
hide the character who is about to commit a crime.
Highlighting the mystery of character amongst having the
dark woods.
The wide shot used with the relation to having the over
the shoulder long shot to show the setting and the hint
the character intentions concentrates on keeping the
suspense and tension into what may happen.
The shot shown keeps the hint of mystery as we only see the
character feet as he walks and the shadow using a tracking
shot as we follow the character it creates tension and also for
see the movements of the mystery character and what he
might do.

The wide two shot displays the prisoner and the
mystery kidnapper amongst the surrounding identifying
elements of horror and thriller of what the kidnapper
may do to her.
This shot is revealed through the use of
panning upwards to display the abbanded
building presenting the conventional
stereotype that is shown in horror films to
add to the anticipation of what awaits the
prisoner inside.
The wide shot of the kidnapper and his tools. The highlighting the use of lighting
upon the tools that the kidnapper may use. Creating anticipation to what the
kidnapper is going to do. Furthermore the use of mise scene of the kidnapper
clothing which is dark connotes danger and deception.

6. INITIAL IDEA
The wide shot of the sea, was one in which my
group had as an initial idea. Including this as
part of the short film, will be based on the
fictional characters : Humpty Dumpty,
Cinderella and the ugly duckling sitting by the
shore.
In relation to research, we have analysed a
variety of music videos and short films to help
us form the decisions we as a group decide to
make, to add to the success of the product.

8. LOOKING INTO THE GENRE ( HORROR)
CONTEXTUAL GENRE
As a group we came to the decision that our genre will be a horror/
thriller. The sub genre is a slasher. We chose this as the sub genre
because a slasher in tells:
• victims are killed in a violent manner
• killed with a knife or axe
• details on psychopathic killer
• main characters characteristics

10. CAMERA PERSON:CREATING A FLOW OF
CONSISTENCY IN SHOTS
All three shots are following a consistency, which is what we are aiming
to achieve. As the camera person the consistency and the certain shots
and angles need to not only reflect the killer thoughts and movements to
present the detail of the killer and the victim. Amongst trying to fill in the
character each way of what is happening whilst staying one step ahead
by keeping the audience in suspense.
