1. Evaluation Q5
Tyrell Taylor
What have you learned from your audience feedback?
My film was showcased to a group from both my primary and secondary audiences and I
received feedback from them. I gave my audiences some questions based on my project to
answer as feedback.
The questions where:
1. Was the film enjoyable?
2. Rate it out of 5
3. How did you feel after watching it?
4. Was the film effective in meeting the genre conventions of a social realism film?
5. What do you think of the film poster?
6. What do you think of the film review?
The audience showed empathy towards Anthony after watching the short, they felt as if he
was a victim of a capitalist society where he had no choice but to in his situation. My primary
audience focussed more on Anthony’s character and how he neglected his responsibilities,
he compared to his own lifestyle and said that these things are rare in his society. He also
praised the use of gaming as an addiction instead of drugs as it helped him understand the
narrative and the meaning behind the film.
They all agreed that it was effective in meeting the genre conventions of a social realism
film, because of the low key lighting, the lack of non-diegetic sound and strict realistic
narrative.
When my secondary audience watched the film they showed an interest in both characters
Anthony and Mariam. They were obsessed with the idea of the wife taking so much
responsibility and being dominant in the relationship but took Anthony’s addiction for
childishness instead of a development of modernisation. Both audiences showed sympathy
for Anthony when he lost his job because it meant that his situation at home with his wife
and kids will get worse. The scene at the end of the film was said to be very moving by
someone from my primary audience, they said that the fact that he didn't even know how to
explained to his wife when he got home enforced her dominance but the fact that he walked
past without saying anything to her proves how his neglectful behaviour stems from his life
falling apart.
The feedback i received for my poster was positive, they said that it was clearly laid out and
professionally edited and that it left the audience wanting more. The colour palette carefully
selected and as a result complimented the poster and the typography kept it subtle
conforming to the genre conventions. I was told that there could have been more image in
the poster and that the grey background was controversial for a poster, but after explaining
that I wanted to keep the audience on their feet. I did this through the main character looking
stressed and unkempt making the audience wonder why and with the large title next to him
allows the audience to try and piece the story together, this technique makes them want to
settle their curiosity by watching the film to realise that the title ‘Robbed’ is used to describe
how he robbed of his job, his manhood and his freedom of living happily.
2. The feedback for my poster was also positive although two [people from my primary
audience said that the picture used was not intriguing enough. They said that reviews are
supposed to be teasers and the picture i used doesn't make you want to know more straight
away. Besides that the content of my review was praised for the vocabulary and the layout,
most said that it looked very professional and a lot of effort has clearly gone into it.
