This lesson plan outlines a week-long unit on volcanoes for a 5th grade class of 20 students from diverse ethnic backgrounds. Over the course of the week, students will learn about volcano formation, types of volcanoes, and what causes eruptions through diagrams, discussions, videos, and maps. On Friday, students will demonstrate their understanding by constructing individual volcano posters and presenting them to the class. Technology such as computers and educational websites will be utilized to support the students' research and projects.

2. Analyze the Learner
Teaching about volcanoes to 5th graders.
There are 20 students, 10 girls and 10 boys.
There are 8 Hispanics, 4 Chinese, and 8 Caucasian.

3. Main Objectives
The students will describe how a volcano is formed after
looking at diagrams, participating in class discussion,
seeing videos, making a map locating the Ring of Fire,
and making a poster for the volcano of their choice by the
end of the week with 90% accuracy.

4. Day by Day
Monday- I will introduce volcanoes.
Tuesday- Students will learn how volcanoes are formed.
Wednesday- Students will learn about the different
volcanoes.
Thursday- Students will learn about what causes them to
erupt.
Friday- Students will construct individual volcanoes.

5. Use of Technology
Students will use computers to get pictures and
information for their posters, and they will use
websites to learn more about volcanoes.
