1. Thursday ASSURE
A-Analyze the Learner:
I will be teaching a 5th grade class in a public school of 22 students: 13 girls and 9
boys. 90% of the class is White, 8% is African American, and 2% is Latino. Overall,
these children come low/middle income families, and are between the ages of 10
and 11 years old.
S-State Objectives:
My fifth grade class will demonstrate their understanding of the Holocaust
concentration camps and their locations after, watching two videos, using QR codes,
accessing a pinterest board, and map activities by the end of the day with 100%
accuracy.
S-Selecting Methods, Materials, and Media:
To ensure successful learning in my class, I will employ a multitude of methods to
convey the important messages of this lesson, including:
Video: A video giving information about the largest concentration camp,
Auschwitz.
QR codes: I will provide two different QR codes for the class. One links to a
video that walks through Auschwitz and the other leads to a list of all the
concentration camps and their locations.
Pinterest: We will view my professional pinterest where I have a board
dedicated to concentration camps during the holocaust.
Individual world map and Markers: Students will use their markers to
highlight the location of 3 different concentration camps on the map and to
write down information they feel is important about the camps.
Computer Lab: I will reserve the computer lab to provide internet access to
all the students
2. U-Utilize the Media and Materials:
Prior to the start of the class, I will preview the video to make sure it is working
properly. I will then test both QR codes to ensure that they lead to the correct
websites, and provide the links to the students who do not have smart phone access.
Additionally, I will double-check the links on the pinterest account to make sure
they function properly. Finally, I will print out a world map for each student, and
provide markers for them to write on the map.
R-Require Learner Participation:
To engage my students in the learning process, I will begin the class with a
discussion about what we have learned thus far in the unit. I will then proceed to
introduce the topic of the concentration camps, and show the video about
Auschwitz. I will then ask the students questions about the video to get their
feelings and thoughts on the their first look at concentration camps. Next we will
continue on to the computer lab where the students will access the video and
website provided by the QR code. Once the students have viewed the second video
and the website, we will return to the classroom. In the classroom, I will pass out the
maps and markers so students can show their knowledge by marking the location of
three concentration camps and writing down what they see as important
information.
E- Evaluate and Revise:
I will evaluate learner progress through:
Facilitating class discussions and noting the conversations going on.
Assessing the map work that each student creates after using the QR links.
