The Pop Art Movement
I enjoy for my art work to be a representation of who I am as an individual. My art is mainly focused on things that are interesting to me or what I
perceive to be beautiful. My subjects for my art pieces are usually people, and I like to focus on their proportions. Art to me is a form of placing
my thoughts and feelings onto a piece of paper for everyone to relate as they gaze through my drawings. The materials I use for my pieces consist of
mixed media and that is because I really enjoy the way these supplies can enhance the meaning of my artwork. This semester I decided to focus on the
Pop art movement. The reason I chose this movement it is because this style is way different than what I am used to. Since I focus on proportions and

What Is The Arts And Crafts Movement Essay
Arts & Crafts: Britain 1880 – 1914
This movement was started in Britain about 1880. It gives the importance to the role of the craftsmen. Many ideas of William Morris and John Ruskin
was an inspiration for getting back of doing traditional handicrafts which it was a simpler way to improve the design of domestic objects. The Arts and
Crafts Exhibition Society, which it gives the name to this movement and other organizations such as the Art Workers Guild, worked hard to raise the
status of the craftsmen and the decorative objects that were designed at that time. Their main thing was that they want to and were determined to
interact with the commercial world and influence the industrial design.

William Morris (1834–1896)
William Morris was the main important figure of the Arts and Crafts Movement and one of the most important and influential designers in British
History. In 1861 he started his first company which produced a wide range of decorative objects for the home including furniture, fabrics, wallpaper
and stained glass. He has combined his artistic skills with strong political beliefs. A committed conservationist and Socialist, he dedicated his life to the
idea that art should improve the lives of ordinary people.
This was one of his works that he has done. He has used different patterns covering all the furnishings and the walls. Detailed and elaborated designs
were used. In my opinion there are too much patterns in one room. One pattern will be strong enough to communicate a very good design. For
example the wallpaper will be strong enough, if it was only it, in the room and then the other furnishings will be picking up colours from it and also
using different shades of the colour chosen. The inspiration from the countryside and natural elements can be easily seen.in elaborate and detailed
designs.

An Art Movement And Marcel Duchamp
Dada, be definition, was not an art movement and Marcel Duchamp was by the same definition not an artist. As a man who loved great comedy and
clever wit, Duchamp was a man who loved to take a tradition and challenge others to think beyond it's conventional definition. The Bride Stripped
Bare By Her Bachelors, Even is one of Duchamp's more famous pieces that wholly illustrates the idea that art can be created entirely by accident.
Marcel Duchamp was born in the Upper Normandy region of France to Eugene and Lucie Duchamp on July 28, 1887. His family was an incredibly
cultured one. Aside from the art of painter and engraver Emile Nicolle filling the house, the family enjoyed playing chess, reading books, painting and
making music together. Four out of his seven brothers and sisters actually became successful artists. At 8, Duchamp followed in his brothers' footsteps
and left home to begin schooling at the LycГ©e Pierre–Corneille a school run by Jesuits to educate children of the aristocracy and bourgeoisie.
Duchamp attended the school for eight years where he was locked into an educational routine that focused on intellectual development and academic
excellence. He himself was not a spectacular student but he thoroughly enjoyed mathematics and even won two prizes in the subject. But Duchamp
received the most important prize for a drawing in 1904 at his commencement. He used this moment to validate his decently recent decision to become
an artist

1970's Feminist Art Movement
The feminist art movement in the 1970's culminated as a result of numerous factors. Females rebelled against traditional art which sexualized objects
of desire and was masculine in nature. Female artists voiced their opinions of the stereotypes of gender, female body, and beauty ideals in their work.
Hannah Wilke, Ana Mendieta, and Carolee Schneemann are artists that helped pave the way for feminist art and expression. A contemporary artist that
reflects the 1970's movement is Janine Antoni. Her work, Loving Care and Gnaw, shows her portrayal of the female body and desire which reflects
feminist ideas. To begin it is important to understand the emerging feminist art movement in the 1970s. The movement was called the Women's

The Intersection Of Social Movements And Art
The intersection of social movements and Art is one that can be observed throughout the civil right movements of America in the 1960's and early
1970's. The sixties in America saw a substantial cultural and social change through activism against the Vietnam war, women's right and against the
segregation of the African – American communities. Art became a prominent method of activism to advocate the civil rights movement. It was a way
to express self–identity as well as the struggle that people went through and by means of visual imagery a way to show political ideals and forms of
resistance. To examine how a specific movement can have a profound effects on the visual art, this essay will focus on the black art movement of the

Secondly, observing the work of Emma Amos who was the only women within the spiral group. Romare Bearden, started his artistic career being an
abstractionist, however the civil right movement had an impact on his art which lead him to the creation of the group called spiral. With the help of
other black artists, Bearden sought to reflect how they could portray their connection to the civil right movement through their arts as a racial group
minority. Ralph Ellison (1977), mentions the anachronism of the American social experience of minority artists which could then be used to
understand the motivation behind the art of Bearden. This anachronism refers to; "The imbalance in American society which leads to a distorted
perception of social reality, to a stubborn blindness to the creative possibilities of cultural diversity, to the prevalence of negative myth, racial
stereotypes and dangerous illusion about art, humanities and society." (Ellison: 1977 : pp.673) It is then argued that many artists are often majorly
influenced by the power of this anachronism, as their culture as well as the freedom of representing their self identity through aesthetic technique of
self expression that are already existing. This, then restrict their attempt to seek change of the complex social situation they experience. Meanwhile, it
is said that Bearden attempt not to follow the anachronism in is art by transforming it into a component of art as a mean of personal vision (Ellison:

Rossetti's Influence On The Art Nouveau Movement
Starting from the year 1862, Rossetti started to paint mainly large, female figures, sensuous and dramatic. Lots of famous Rossetti's paintings, were
inspired by his red–haired wife and major muse Jane. Casting the girl that was probably not considered as beautiful at that times, started to change the
understanding of beauty everyone had. His perception of beauty influenced the European Symbolists, making him a major precursor of the Aesthetic
movement. His influence can be sensed even in the famous Czech artist Alphonse Mucha's work. But how could Rossetti's P.R.M. artwork be
influential to Art Nouveau movement artist? To start with, Alphonse Mucha (1860– 1939), Czech artist, is best known for his posters depicting
beautiful women. He worked in variety of media including printing, painting, jewelry, furniture and even more. Mucha did not like the fact that he
was associated with Art Noveau, and preferred the word "movement". Like Rossetti's, majority of Mucha's work are portraits of stunning females.
He searched for inspiration from Czech traditions and artwork he grew up on. This allows to speculate that Rossetti was one of them, as Mucha was
not afraid of learning or trying new things. The movement Art Nouveau started in the 1800's, London, and was the artistic rebellion that promoted
freedom, desire to get rid of distinction between low and high art, to bring art to everyday life, to allow poor people to have the same artworks that
rich people decorated their

material in which artists used to draw. During the course of the Italian Renaissance artists improvised ways to express their art and emotions by using
materials other than paper.
Due to the fact that the technology for making paper from wood pulp was not discovered until the middle of the 19th century, the production of paper
required cloth rags in large quantity. This type of production of paper was expensive and consider to be a luxury commodity. Because

Art Movement After World War I
According to the Visual Art Encyclopedia, Surrealism sprang up in Paris and became rooted in the avant–garde art world. Surrealism was the
fashionable art movement after World War I. Surrealism is and the last major art movement to be associated with the Ecole de Paris. The writer Andre
Breton (1896–1966), nicknamed "the Pope of Surrealism", was the movement 's founder and chief theorist. He introduced and defined the new style in
his initial 1924 manifesto (Manifeste du Surrealisme) and later in his painting bulletin (Surrealisme et la Peinture). Breton deplored the radical and
destructive character of Dada, nevertheless he built on many Dada ideas to create a movement with a coherent though unbending philosophy. He aimed
at nothing less than a total conversion of the way people thought. Surrealism was less overtly political and advocated a more positive philosophy. The
main focus of the surrealism movement was literature but this rapidly broadened to painting, sculpture and other forms of contemporary visual art.
Surrealist strived to bring forward the imagery of the unconscious mind. Surrealist philosophy believed that nongovernmental and irrational art were
preferable for life and civilization. Surrealism was responsible for a host of incredibly innovative but strange art. Surrealism was meant to free the
unconscious mind from reason. Breton and other surrealists were strongly influenced by the psychological work of Sigmund Freud The term Pop–Art

Design Movement : The Aspects Of The Art Deco Movement
Design movement
A design movement that appealed to me is the Art Deco movement which occurred from 1910 to 1939. This movement appealed to me because it has
all elements of different design periods in it, from technological advances bringing in geometric lines, the aviation world bringing new elements of
design into buildings like the streamlined curves.
Art Deco was not a cheap way of living, bringing the luxury and modernity worlds together, the craftsmanship together with ivory, diamonds, jade and
many other materials made this an expensive way of living. This period to me was full of elegance and made people really feel the concept of wanting
luxury items which everyone else wanted.
The Chrysler building shows off the Art deco period very well both inside and outside being centered around this time period. The geometric lines as
well as the eagles on the side of the building representing the automobile, makes this a time period which people wanted to be remembered. This
building is just one of many which makes this time period appeal to me because of the process which they went through and the time spent on the
details of the sleek interiors and bold streamline structures.
Art deco appealed to me because of its mood lighting, the geometry and symmetry, the textures as well as the glamorous aspect of having this style in
your house. This movement makes me think about the Art deco aspects we have in today's society and the impact it has had on the word today and

Warhol And The Pop Art Movement
Andy Warhol being not simply a Pop artist, but an American artist who was known as the master of Pop Art, and about two of Warhol's most famous
paintings; Coca–Cola and Campbell's Soup Cans. Andy Warhol was an artist and filmmaker, an initiator for the Pop Art movement in the 1960s.
Warhol used mass production techniques to elevate art into the supposed unoriginality of the commercial culture of the United States. Warhol's early
drawings frequently recalls the Anglo–Saxon tradition of nonsense humor, a characteristically childlike exuberance, and the fact that Warhol was
successfully earning a living in the advertising industry at the time was sufficient for many to dismiss his entire artistic output during this period as
"commercial art". Fifty years ago, Pop art captured the spirit of Warhol's young art, but that basic structure has been (to most people) a revealing
profitless movement for years. Pop art was a 1960s movement that focused on everyday objects, comic books and mediated images – now seems quaint
and playful, but not Warhol. In the first part ofAndy Warhol's career he was an iconoclast, in the second, the artist as businessman. In 1960 Warhol's
graphic works underwent a fundamental change in terms of subject matter, accompanied at about the same time by a change in technique. Warhol's
graphic work covers areas not normally associated with the art of the twentieth century, and which might even be considered unique. In Andy Warhol's

The History Of Pop Art As An Art Movement
Pop Art is an art movement that started sometime during the 1950's and 60's, it is said that it emerged first in the United Kingdom and slowly made
its way to the United States. It incorporates popular everyday symbols such as Disney, Coca–Cola, McDonalds or any other company conglomerate.
Before pop art, art was being held to some crazy standards such as that an art piece had to be unique, one of a kind ,deeply contemplative or
philosophical; however, people argued that this made art highly elitist and inaccessible to the masses. America during the 1950's was in an era where
film, television, advertisements and mass produced imagery on magazines, comic books and news stands which allowed for these images to be burned
into the collective conscious minds of your average American because of these media. The American culture undoubtedly began to be shaped by
celebrities, consumer products and huge corporate brands. Artists of this time recognized this trend and wanted to reflect this newly developed reality
and began to highlight the mass production and sensational nature of the mainstream media. Take the famouspop art artists himself, Andy Warhol, for
example, making multiple copies of the same photograph over and over or Claes Oldenburg's overt larger than life depictions of decadence and food
consumption. Whether these artists did it intentionally or not, they called into question many of the established values of art. Pop artists also brought

What Is Hokusai's Photography Influence The Art Movement?
Each artist's respective choice to employ a certain style and to depict their landscapes in a certain way is insightful of the art movements in which they
worked, though the later movement (Post–impressionist) was highly influenced by the earlier one (Ukiyo–e). Precisely, Hokusai's print was completed
in 1832 and, thus, is representative of the Japanese Ukiyo–e (translated as the "floating" or "sorrowful" world) movement, notable for its lack of
perspective, clean lines and flat areas of pure color. Its artists produced woodblock prints and paintings usually depicting kabuki actors, female beauties,
erotic scenes, or natural landscapes. Art in this movement evoked "an imagined universe of wit, stylishness, and extravagance–with overtones of
naughtiness, hedonism, and transgression," and it was considered a contrast to the boring, monotonous routines of everyday life. ... Show more content

Unquestionably, Hokusai's print mirrors many aspects of the Ukiyo–e movement in that it did become a popular landscape print all over the world; in
addition, the poetic interplay between stylistic and naturalistic methods of depiction makes it an ornate and sophisticated piece. Moreover, the print
demonstrates one aspect of Romanticism, which was the movement that took place in the West during the same exact time; namely, the emphasis of
nature, its sublimity, the terror and awe is crucial in interpreting the theme of the print. Subsequently, Van Gogh's painting was completed in 1889,
which falls under the post–impressionist movement. Artists in this movement strayed from the previous Impressionist movement, expressing more
emotions and symbolic content rather than optical/visual impressions, although the use of simple colors

Lawrence Alloway Pop Art Movement
Pop Art was an art movement that originated in the 1950s but swept across the American media landscape in the 1960s. It suggests that art can be
appreciated by all people, from the layman to the wealthy elite, and that education is not something that necessitates a respect or an interest in art.
Instead, Pop Art, coined by British art critic Lawrence Alloway, which implies that the most common man can come to understand and appreciate art if
the content and mode of creation was more familiar to him. Alloway indicated that the movement was special because of its reliance on the "power of
the image". While the educated classes are familiar with ancient foreign mythologies, Christian iconography, and global historical narratives, which
were the topics that dominated the subject matter of most art, the lower classes lacked the context to enjoy many great works of art. ... Show more

I'm going to be explaining 3 glass stores that I've grow up with; I have many experiences with all of the stores, some I visit still while some have

shops target people who buy glass whether they be glass pipes, glass marbles, glass sculptures, as well custom metal jewelry in some. The
Degenerate art movement has recently taken major interest from many; recently a huge spike in new collectors, artists, as well many new
galleries and stores. The Degenerate Art Movement I am talking about is basically the glass blowers out there who are going against the social
norms. They are artists that are taking a medium used for art, and a medium that has been used to make pipes and bongs and fuse the 2 ideas of art
and pipes or water pipes into one. They are using glass pipes as the way to portray their talent. To some they laugh at the fact, but what they don't
know is that there are water pipes out there selling for anywhere from $1,000 all the way up to $30,000. To some they are recognized as modern day

glass marbles where beautiful images and mind–bending ideas are encased for one to view and enjoy forever. They make amazing things like cups and

contemporary urban environment" (kleiner, 981). This art form was popular for its bold and simple looks plus its bright and vibrant colors. An
example of this type of art is the oil painting done by Andy Warhol, "Marilyn Diptych" (Warhol, Marilyn Diptych) in 1962. The Pop art movement

The History And Development Of The Arts And Crafts Movement
The Arts and Crafts Movement, which began in the second half of the nineteenth century, is linked to the reform of industrial mass production and
the identification of craft with women's labor or leisurely activity. The Arts and Crafts Movement has allowed for individuals to participate in a
social or political protest, engage in an artistic community, or have a creative outlet. It was first established in Great Britain by William Morris, who
envisioned an equal division of labor between the sexes and a revival of rural craftsmanship that would reform industrialization. It has further
developed into the contemporary movement known as "craftivism", which is the usage of arts and crafts to spur social and political changes. Morris'
vision of collaborative craftsmanship has led the way to modern–day, community–based arts and crafts activities. The Arts and Crafts Movement has
also influenced amateur and experienced crafters, often individual women, to create and sell craft products as a hobby or a career.
The Arts and Crafts Movement evolved as a response to social changes after the Industrial Revolution in Britain, where workers faced harsh working
conditions and low wages.
In 1897, the American Arts & Crafts Exhibition, which included "more than 1000 objects by 160 craftsmen," () began the spread of the British Arts and
Crafts Movement to the United States in the years before World War I. Unlike the British Arts and Crafts Movement, the American Arts and Crafts

Anna Dvorak (American film actress) says: "He succeeded in creating a poster so different from others on the billboards, both in design and

posters Mucha chose an extremely elongated shape, and in contrast to other poster designers he used very pale colours–whites, beiges, mauves, dull
purples, reds and greens, with decorative touches of gold and silver. His unusual posters were uniquely appropriate to the famous actress of whom
Charles Hiatt wrote that she had the ability to touch even a classical French drama with the oriental, the strange and the exotic. "[6] His attention to

The amazing success of this poster led to long term contact with Bernhardt. He produced posters, costume designs, jewellery and set designs–and his

The Art Movement : Dada As An Artistic Movement
Dada is a word. It's nothing more than a an articulation of sounds; it isn't meant to mean an actual, tangible thing. As said by Hugo Ball in the 1916
edition of the Dada Manifesto, Dada is to be simply described as 'An International word. Just a word, and the word a movement. Very easy to
understand." More formally, however, Dada was an artistic movement that surfaced out of the need to express during World War I. It encompassed
different art forms like dance, poetry, visual art, music, as well as politics. It was more of an anarchist, anti–establishment manifesto rather than an art
style or movement. Dada's destructive tendencies towards mainstream hierarchies caused a unification among people who wanted nothing more than to
be able to express themselves freely during a time of war.
Dada stems from the emptiness and betrayal a lot of artists felt during this time. It was an ideology, a way of life, it was something that meant to
fight for a right to be, a right to say, and a right to act. Dada was, and will continue to be, an emblem of liberation and freedom. During this epoch, a
series of 'manifestos' and magazines were released to help proclaim and establish the principles Dada stood for. These works sought to attack any and
all compliant social, political and cultural attitudes that existed to oppose the war. Dada had goals to get rid of all artistic hierarchies since all snobby
arts from the past were seen as restraining. From 1916 and onward, anything and

Islam on William Morris, Akhtar argued that "Morris' designs are inextricably linked to the traditional Islamic Art, pointing out the strong connection
between Morris' work and Turkish ceramics and Persian carpets". She also added "Morris was influenced, not only by the aesthetics of Islamic art, but
by the principles that guided that art." He even suggests that Morris' famous decorating maxim 'have nothing in your house that you do not know to be
useful, or believe to be beautiful'––is drawn from a saying in the Quran that "God is beautiful and loves beauty'"

The Black Arts Movement And The Civil Rights Movement
The twentieth century was one of the most active periods of social movements, along with the Civil Rights campaigns of the 1960s was the Antiwar
Movement, where most Americans were in opposition with the government on the U.S. involvement in the Vietnam war. Domestically, social and
economic conditions gave voice to the people to embark on a revolution for change. For African Americans the struggle for equality had been going on
for decades. But the movement went to a new level after the death of Emmitt Till in August 1955, a 14–year–old black boy murdered and disfigured by
white men in Mississippi for allegedly flirting with a white woman, and the arrest of Rosa Parks December 1955, who refused to give up her seat in
the colored section of the bus to a white passenger. The beginning of the Feminist Movement in 1963 women began to fight for respect and equality
socially and economically. The Black Arts Movement which was the cultural wing of the Black Power Movement began to play out on college
campuses. The 1970s remained tied to the social experiments and struggles of the 1960s. African Americans were still fighting for education equality
around the country. But signs emerged of another change. January 23, 1973 President Richard Nixon announces the end of U.S. involvement in the
Vietnam war. The Civil Rights Movement and the Women's Movement accomplished many of their goals. The U.S. suffered an economic recession,
interest rates and inflation were high. Music

Cubism : The Art Movement Of Modern Art
Cubism was the art movement that took modern art to the next level. It was one of the first major forms of Abstractionism. Cubism looks as if the
painting was build with blocks. Artists used blocks and geometric shapes to form figures of men and women. There was no certain color scheme,
however colors were usually very different in order to distinguish parts of the body. Anatomy was jumbled, but bodies were clear and visible.Pablo
Picasso is known to be a mastermind of the art world. He essentially invented cubism and contributed to the advancement of modern art. Les
Demoiselles d'Avignon is a painting that shows five nude ladies all posing different ways. All of them have very different faces and body shapes,
something that was common during Cubism. The women are formed out of geometric shapes, but their forms are definite. Georges Braque was the
neighbor of Pablo Picasso and he took Cubism on a different path. Instead of making the shapes 2D, he used light and perspective to make shapes
appear 3D. Man with a Guitar is very difficult to distinguish a figure, unlike Picasso's works. If you look closely and focus on different points, you can
see a man playing a guitar. The 3D shapes and dark colors give it a slight heavy–hearted feel.

Art Movements In The Movement Of The Dada Movement
In the 20th century, there were many art movements that influenced the way we produce art and design to this very day. Along with the movements,
there were several artists that contributed to making these movements great. During the first World War, as a reaction to the chaos and turmoil, arose a
movement called Dada. The movement started in 1916 in ZГјrich, Switzerland and ended in 1924 ("Dada Movement, Artists and Major Works."). In
1922, Tristan Tarza wrote a piece called "Lecture on Dada". It stated that "Nothing is more delightful than to confuse and upset people". He believed
that, "like everything in life, Dada is useless" (Tarza). This phrase really encapsulates what Dada was and what it stood for. There is no record of

L.H.O.O.Q (fig 3) is a play on the Mona Lisa, crafted in 1919. It is an excellent example of the mockery to traditional art. The Mona Lisa in his work
L.H.O.O.Q. is printed on a postcard, where then Duchamp drew a mustache and goatee on the painted woman photographed. He then labeled it
L.H.O.O.Q., and it became an iconic piece of Dada work. If someone who is fluent in the French language and native to the tongue were to
pronounce these letters, it would read "Elle a chaud au cul", which can translate to "She has a hot arse." ("Dada Movement, Artists and Major
Works.") Dada was said to be very anti–art, so by taking a well–known traditional piece from 1517 painted by Leonardo Da Vinci made a huge
statement on how Duchamp was throwing away all traditional practices of what art was before Dada (Flask).
There are also arguments on what the deeper meaning of the title of the work could be, and how perhaps Duchamp was attempting to make the Mona
Lisa even further androgynous (Jack). Interestingly, Duchamp revised this piece (fig 4) in 1965, and titled it L.H.O.O.Q. Shaved. The revision of the
work is a white sheet of paper with another photograph that seems to be a playing card of the Mona Lisa, clean–shaven placed in the middle of the
paper, with the title written underneath. The MoMA currently has it in their collection, a gift given to the museum from Philip Johnson (Duchamp).

The Pop Art Movement: Andy Warhol
Many artistic movements are captivating from the various amounts of depth and insights each one holds. The artistic movement that caught my
attention is the pop art movement. This movement emerged in the mid 1950's, and was mainly developed in New York. Pop art (which is short for
"popular art") was brought to create new forms of imagery and expressions. It was made by displaying the popular culture; meaning, the art was
created by people of everyday life and popular objects obtained during this period. Many of these artists pulled away from the traditional art to focus on
the popular culture. This movement also strongly focuses on surrealism, which is a 20th century movement that sought to release the creative potential
of the unconscious mind. Pop art features; mass media, imagery of consumerism, celebrities and advertisements.
Pop art helped create connections of the art to the viewers. Post WWII manufacturing and the media boom influenced the pop artists. Avant–garde,
meaning unusual and experimental ideas, was a key source in the pop art movement. Pop artists used bright and vibrant colors, and sometimes
uncommon materials to create their work. Artists began to gain popularity and fame by the use of printmaking techniques. These artists were known
for creating their work by using mechanical and commercial techniques. Some common art ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Marilyn Diptych, along with his other famous Marilyn paintings, is based on a 1953 publicity photograph for the film 'Niagara'. He produced
this amazing piece of art just a couple of weeks after her death. He was genuinely amazed by her. He wanted to show her to the world in his own

Is Internet Art really a movement?
Over the years artists have generally been influenced by the developments in technologies of their era. Through impressionism, we had Monet who saw
realistic paintings as redundant after the invention of photography. Instead, Monet focused on capturing how light and shadows affect our impression
on a subject. By 1916, Picasso had taken this further and depicted all sides and shapes of reality at once with Cubism. It was technologies of The
Industrial Revolution that handed Picasso and other artists their new found freedom and inspiration. Their art was reflected by the attention and
understanding they had to the evolving change in times. Since then, technology has changed drastically and artists are constantly using this to their...

Race and racial hierarchies are reinforced through the proliferation of a predominant, societal, white aesthetic and through the perceptions associated
with physical characteristics. In The Bluest Eye, Toni Morrison first illustrates the reinforcement of racial hierarchies through the proliferation of a
predominant, societal white aesthetic by recounting passages from the Dick and Jane books, a standardization of family life. Next, "The Black Arts
Movement" by Larry Neal demonstrates the reinforcement of racial hierarchies through the proliferation of a white aesthetic by discussing how Black
culture, including Black art, is in danger if the white aesthetic is accepted by Black artists.

These books, with their simplistic two and three word sentences, were widely used to teach all children how to read and suggested that the
lifestyle of Dick and Jane was typical and standard. But, the Dick and Jane lifestyle was certainly not the typical lifestyle for Claudia, Pecola or
either of their families. So, that lifestyle was presumed to be the typical white lifestyle. Furthermore, the lifestyle of Dick and Jane was obviously
viewed as superior to a sad, broken, difficult family life, similar to what Claudia and Pecola were accustomed, so white lifestyles in general were
viewed as superior. Consequently, exposure to this white aesthetic, especially at an early age, would create, proliferate and reinforce a racial hierarchy.
In "The Black Arts Movement," Larry Neal also discusses how a racial hierarchy is reinforced through the proliferation of a predominant, societal,
white aesthetic. Neal says that, "there are in fact and in spirit two Americas – one black, one white." (Neal 2039). Further, Neal discusses the danger of
not counteracting the white way of thinking, trumpeting the need for a Black aesthetic. "The motive behind the Black aesthetic is the destruction of
the white thing, the destruction of white ideas, and white ways of looking at the world." (Neal 2040). Neal's adamancy concerning the need for a
Black aesthetic confirms his belief in the existence and power of a predominant, societal, white

Pop Art : An Art Movement
Pop Art is an art movement that emerged in the 1950's characterized by imagery from pop culture mostly on advertisements and news often using
the sense of irony. This movement was more of a cultural revolution using vibrant colors and bold graphics to represent a statement and provide an
instant meaning. It has a relation with the abstract expressionism, however it is clearer and has a comic book vibe. Pop art is not trying to confuse
you and make you analyze its meaning, on the contrary, it wants the audience to have a clear message of the daily social, political and cultural
changes occurring and how they impact society. The Philadelphia Museum of Art held the "International Pop" exhibit from February 24, 2016 through
May 15, 2016. This exhibit focused on art from 1950's to 1970's were it explored bold and thought–provoking imagery, reliving a period influenced by
social, political and cultural changes. This was a movement that crossed continents from Europe to America being distinct in every region. In this

The Arts and Crafts Movement Essay
The Arts and Craft movement was a social and artistic movement, which began in Britain in the second half of the nineteenth century and continued
into the twentieth spreading to continental Europe and the USA. Its adherents–artists, architects, designers and Craftsmen sought to reassert the
importance of and craftsmanship in all arts in the face of increasing industrialization, which they felt was sacrificing quality in the pursuit of quantity.
Its supporters and practioners were united not so much by a style rather than the common goal– a desire to break down the hierarchy of the arts and to
revive traditional handicrafts and make art that could be affordable to all.

This satisfaction, the proponents of this movement felt, was totally denied in the industrialised processes inherent in compartmentalised machine
production.
In the United States, the Arts and Crafts Movement took on a distinctively more bourgeois flavor. While the European movement tried to recreate the
virtuous world of craft labor that was being destroyed by industrialization, Americans tried to establish a new source of virtue to replace heroic craft
production: the tasteful middle–class home. They thought that the simple but refined aesthetics of Arts and Crafts decorative arts would ennoble the
new experience of industrial consumerism, making individuals more rational and society more harmonious. In short, the American Arts and Crafts
Movement was the aesthetic counterpart of its contemporary political movement: Progressivism.
Art Nouveau, 1890–1914, explores a new style in the visual arts and architecture that developed in Europe and North America at the end of the
nineteenth century. The exhibition is divided into three sections: the first focuses on the 1900 World's Fair in Paris, where Art Nouveau was
established as the first new decorative style of the twentieth century; the second examines the sources that influenced the style; and the third looks at its
development and fruition in major cities in Europe and North

The 1970's: The Feminist Art Movement
The 1960s and the 1970s were both eras in which fights for civil rights and liberties were common. Some followed the banner that fought for rights for
the African American community while others focused their fight on women's rights and their liberation from an oppressive male dominated world.
While both fights contributed much to society and the advancement of their particular group, the feminist art movement, however, hits much closer to
home due to its roots here in Fresno. While not as flashy as some of the protests for women's rights that were happening, the feminist art movement
was able to take hold in Fresno and help grow the feminist art form. To begin with, it is important to know at least a rudimentary definition offeminism.

The Pop Art Movement

  • 1. The Pop Art Movement I enjoy for my art work to be a representation of who I am as an individual. My art is mainly focused on things that are interesting to me or what I perceive to be beautiful. My subjects for my art pieces are usually people, and I like to focus on their proportions. Art to me is a form of placing my thoughts and feelings onto a piece of paper for everyone to relate as they gaze through my drawings. The materials I use for my pieces consist of mixed media and that is because I really enjoy the way these supplies can enhance the meaning of my artwork. This semester I decided to focus on the Pop art movement. The reason I chose this movement it is because this style is way different than what I am used to. Since I focus on proportions and try ... • 2. What Is The Arts And Crafts Movement Essay Arts & Crafts: Britain 1880 – 1914 This movement was started in Britain about 1880. It gives the importance to the role of the craftsmen. Many ideas of William Morris and John Ruskin was an inspiration for getting back of doing traditional handicrafts which it was a simpler way to improve the design of domestic objects. The Arts and Crafts Exhibition Society, which it gives the name to this movement and other organizations such as the Art Workers Guild, worked hard to raise the status of the craftsmen and the decorative objects that were designed at that time. Their main thing was that they want to and were determined to interact with the commercial world and influence the industrial design. There was a great change that people were leaving ... William Morris (1834–1896) William Morris was the main important figure of the Arts and Crafts Movement and one of the most important and influential designers in British History. In 1861 he started his first company which produced a wide range of decorative objects for the home including furniture, fabrics, wallpaper and stained glass. He has combined his artistic skills with strong political beliefs. A committed conservationist and Socialist, he dedicated his life to the idea that art should improve the lives of ordinary people. This was one of his works that he has done. He has used different patterns covering all the furnishings and the walls. Detailed and elaborated designs were used. In my opinion there are too much patterns in one room. One pattern will be strong enough to communicate a very good design. For example the wallpaper will be strong enough, if it was only it, in the room and then the other furnishings will be picking up colours from it and also using different shades of the colour chosen. The inspiration from the countryside and natural elements can be easily seen.in elaborate and detailed designs. C.R. Ashbee

Baroque (began around 1600–1750) a. The Baroque era began as artistic revolt against the stylization of Mannerist art and as means of implementing the demands of the Counter–Reformation Church, which sought to restore its religious prominence in the western world in the face of the Protestant threat (Duckett, 2011). • 5. An Art Movement And Marcel Duchamp Dada, be definition, was not an art movement and Marcel Duchamp was by the same definition not an artist. As a man who loved great comedy and clever wit, Duchamp was a man who loved to take a tradition and challenge others to think beyond it's conventional definition. The Bride Stripped Bare By Her Bachelors, Even is one of Duchamp's more famous pieces that wholly illustrates the idea that art can be created entirely by accident. Marcel Duchamp was born in the Upper Normandy region of France to Eugene and Lucie Duchamp on July 28, 1887. His family was an incredibly cultured one. Aside from the art of painter and engraver Emile Nicolle filling the house, the family enjoyed playing chess, reading books, painting and making music together. Four out of his seven brothers and sisters actually became successful artists. At 8, Duchamp followed in his brothers' footsteps and left home to begin schooling at the LycГ©e Pierre–Corneille a school run by Jesuits to educate children of the aristocracy and bourgeoisie. Duchamp attended the school for eight years where he was locked into an educational routine that focused on intellectual development and academic excellence. He himself was not a spectacular student but he thoroughly enjoyed mathematics and even won two prizes in the subject. But Duchamp received the most important prize for a drawing in 1904 at his commencement. He used this moment to validate his decently recent decision to become an artist He had learned academic drawing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. 1970's Feminist Art Movement The feminist art movement in the 1970's culminated as a result of numerous factors. Females rebelled against traditional art which sexualized objects of desire and was masculine in nature. Female artists voiced their opinions of the stereotypes of gender, female body, and beauty ideals in their work. Hannah Wilke, Ana Mendieta, and Carolee Schneemann are artists that helped pave the way for feminist art and expression. A contemporary artist that reflects the 1970's movement is Janine Antoni. Her work, Loving Care and Gnaw, shows her portrayal of the female body and desire which reflects feminist ideas. To begin it is important to understand the emerging feminist art movement in the 1970s. The movement was called the Women's Liberation Movement... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 7. The Intersection Of Social Movements And Art The intersection of social movements and Art is one that can be observed throughout the civil right movements of America in the 1960's and early 1970's. The sixties in America saw a substantial cultural and social change through activism against the Vietnam war, women's right and against the segregation of the African – American communities. Art became a prominent method of activism to advocate the civil rights movement. It was a way to express self–identity as well as the struggle that people went through and by means of visual imagery a way to show political ideals and forms of resistance. To examine how a specific movement can have a profound effects on the visual art, this essay will focus on the black art movement of the 1960s and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Secondly, observing the work of Emma Amos who was the only women within the spiral group. Romare Bearden, started his artistic career being an abstractionist, however the civil right movement had an impact on his art which lead him to the creation of the group called spiral. With the help of other black artists, Bearden sought to reflect how they could portray their connection to the civil right movement through their arts as a racial group minority. Ralph Ellison (1977), mentions the anachronism of the American social experience of minority artists which could then be used to understand the motivation behind the art of Bearden. This anachronism refers to; "The imbalance in American society which leads to a distorted perception of social reality, to a stubborn blindness to the creative possibilities of cultural diversity, to the prevalence of negative myth, racial stereotypes and dangerous illusion about art, humanities and society." (Ellison: 1977 : pp.673) It is then argued that many artists are often majorly influenced by the power of this anachronism, as their culture as well as the freedom of representing their self identity through aesthetic technique of self expression that are already existing. This, then restrict their attempt to seek change of the complex social situation they experience. Meanwhile, it is said that Bearden attempt not to follow the anachronism in is art by transforming it into a component of art as a mean of personal vision (Ellison: ... • 8. Rossetti's Influence On The Art Nouveau Movement Starting from the year 1862, Rossetti started to paint mainly large, female figures, sensuous and dramatic. Lots of famous Rossetti's paintings, were inspired by his red–haired wife and major muse Jane. Casting the girl that was probably not considered as beautiful at that times, started to change the understanding of beauty everyone had. His perception of beauty influenced the European Symbolists, making him a major precursor of the Aesthetic movement. His influence can be sensed even in the famous Czech artist Alphonse Mucha's work. But how could Rossetti's P.R.M. artwork be influential to Art Nouveau movement artist? To start with, Alphonse Mucha (1860– 1939), Czech artist, is best known for his posters depicting beautiful women. He worked in variety of media including printing, painting, jewelry, furniture and even more. Mucha did not like the fact that he was associated with Art Noveau, and preferred the word "movement". Like Rossetti's, majority of Mucha's work are portraits of stunning females. He searched for inspiration from Czech traditions and artwork he grew up on. This allows to speculate that Rossetti was one of them, as Mucha was not afraid of learning or trying new things. The movement Art Nouveau started in the 1800's, London, and was the artistic rebellion that promoted freedom, desire to get rid of distinction between low and high art, to bring art to everyday life, to allow poor people to have the same artworks that rich people decorated their ... This new movement was originated and centered in Italy. Throughout the course of history, the limited accessibility to paper helped to mold and develop the medium and material in which artists used to draw. During the course of the Italian Renaissance artists improvised ways to express their art and emotions by using materials other than paper. Due to the fact that the technology for making paper from wood pulp was not discovered until the middle of the 19th century, the production of paper required cloth rags in large quantity. This type of production of paper was expensive and consider to be a luxury commodity. Because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Art Movement After World War I According to the Visual Art Encyclopedia, Surrealism sprang up in Paris and became rooted in the avant–garde art world. Surrealism was the fashionable art movement after World War I. Surrealism is and the last major art movement to be associated with the Ecole de Paris. The writer Andre Breton (1896–1966), nicknamed "the Pope of Surrealism", was the movement 's founder and chief theorist. He introduced and defined the new style in his initial 1924 manifesto (Manifeste du Surrealisme) and later in his painting bulletin (Surrealisme et la Peinture). Breton deplored the radical and destructive character of Dada, nevertheless he built on many Dada ideas to create a movement with a coherent though unbending philosophy. He aimed at nothing less than a total conversion of the way people thought. Surrealism was less overtly political and advocated a more positive philosophy. The main focus of the surrealism movement was literature but this rapidly broadened to painting, sculpture and other forms of contemporary visual art. Surrealist strived to bring forward the imagery of the unconscious mind. Surrealist philosophy believed that nongovernmental and irrational art were preferable for life and civilization. Surrealism was responsible for a host of incredibly innovative but strange art. Surrealism was meant to free the unconscious mind from reason. Breton and other surrealists were strongly influenced by the psychological work of Sigmund Freud The term Pop–Art was first used by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Design Movement : The Aspects Of The Art Deco Movement Design movement A design movement that appealed to me is the Art Deco movement which occurred from 1910 to 1939. This movement appealed to me because it has all elements of different design periods in it, from technological advances bringing in geometric lines, the aviation world bringing new elements of design into buildings like the streamlined curves. Art Deco was not a cheap way of living, bringing the luxury and modernity worlds together, the craftsmanship together with ivory, diamonds, jade and many other materials made this an expensive way of living. This period to me was full of elegance and made people really feel the concept of wanting luxury items which everyone else wanted. The Chrysler building shows off the Art deco period very well both inside and outside being centered around this time period. The geometric lines as well as the eagles on the side of the building representing the automobile, makes this a time period which people wanted to be remembered. This building is just one of many which makes this time period appeal to me because of the process which they went through and the time spent on the details of the sleek interiors and bold streamline structures. Art deco appealed to me because of its mood lighting, the geometry and symmetry, the textures as well as the glamorous aspect of having this style in your house. This movement makes me think about the Art deco aspects we have in today's society and the impact it has had on the word today and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Warhol And The Pop Art Movement Andy Warhol being not simply a Pop artist, but an American artist who was known as the master of Pop Art, and about two of Warhol's most famous paintings; Coca–Cola and Campbell's Soup Cans. Andy Warhol was an artist and filmmaker, an initiator for the Pop Art movement in the 1960s. Warhol used mass production techniques to elevate art into the supposed unoriginality of the commercial culture of the United States. Warhol's early drawings frequently recalls the Anglo–Saxon tradition of nonsense humor, a characteristically childlike exuberance, and the fact that Warhol was successfully earning a living in the advertising industry at the time was sufficient for many to dismiss his entire artistic output during this period as "commercial art". Fifty years ago, Pop art captured the spirit of Warhol's young art, but that basic structure has been (to most people) a revealing profitless movement for years. Pop art was a 1960s movement that focused on everyday objects, comic books and mediated images – now seems quaint and playful, but not Warhol. In the first part ofAndy Warhol's career he was an iconoclast, in the second, the artist as businessman. In 1960 Warhol's graphic works underwent a fundamental change in terms of subject matter, accompanied at about the same time by a change in technique. Warhol's graphic work covers areas not normally associated with the art of the twentieth century, and which might even be considered unique. In Andy Warhol's paintings and prints of ... • 13. The History Of Pop Art As An Art Movement Pop Art is an art movement that started sometime during the 1950's and 60's, it is said that it emerged first in the United Kingdom and slowly made its way to the United States. It incorporates popular everyday symbols such as Disney, Coca–Cola, McDonalds or any other company conglomerate. Before pop art, art was being held to some crazy standards such as that an art piece had to be unique, one of a kind ,deeply contemplative or philosophical; however, people argued that this made art highly elitist and inaccessible to the masses. America during the 1950's was in an era where film, television, advertisements and mass produced imagery on magazines, comic books and news stands which allowed for these images to be burned into the collective conscious minds of your average American because of these media. The American culture undoubtedly began to be shaped by celebrities, consumer products and huge corporate brands. • 14. What Is Hokusai's Photography Influence The Art Movement? Each artist's respective choice to employ a certain style and to depict their landscapes in a certain way is insightful of the art movements in which they worked, though the later movement (Post–impressionist) was highly influenced by the earlier one (Ukiyo–e). Precisely, Hokusai's print was completed in 1832 and, thus, is representative of the Japanese Ukiyo–e (translated as the "floating" or "sorrowful" world) movement, notable for its lack of perspective, clean lines and flat areas of pure color. Its artists produced woodblock prints and paintings usually depicting kabuki actors, female beauties, erotic scenes, or natural landscapes. Art in this movement evoked "an imagined universe of wit, stylishness, and extravagance–with overtones of naughtiness, hedonism, and transgression," and it was considered a contrast to the boring, monotonous routines of everyday life. ... Unquestionably, Hokusai's print mirrors many aspects of the Ukiyo–e movement in that it did become a popular landscape print all over the world; in addition, the poetic interplay between stylistic and naturalistic methods of depiction makes it an ornate and sophisticated piece. Moreover, the print demonstrates one aspect of Romanticism, which was the movement that took place in the West during the same exact time; namely, the emphasis of nature, its sublimity, the terror and awe is crucial in interpreting the theme of the print. Subsequently, Van Gogh's painting was completed in 1889, which falls under the post–impressionist movement. All of the shops target people who buy glass whether they be glass pipes, glass marbles, glass sculptures, as well custom metal jewelry in some. The Degenerate art movement has recently taken major interest from many; recently a huge spike in new collectors, artists, as well many new galleries and stores. They are using glass pipes as the way to portray their talent. To some they are recognized as modern day living Picasso's, and others just dirty hippies making money off a drug culture. • 20. The History And Development Of The Arts And Crafts Movement The Arts and Crafts Movement, which began in the second half of the nineteenth century, is linked to the reform of industrial mass production and the identification of craft with women's labor or leisurely activity. The Arts and Crafts Movement has allowed for individuals to participate in a social or political protest, engage in an artistic community, or have a creative outlet. It was first established in Great Britain by William Morris, who envisioned an equal division of labor between the sexes and a revival of rural craftsmanship that would reform industrialization. It has further developed into the contemporary movement known as "craftivism", which is the usage of arts and crafts to spur social and political changes. Morris' vision of collaborative craftsmanship has led the way to modern–day, community–based arts and crafts activities. The Arts and Crafts Movement has also influenced amateur and experienced crafters, often individual women, to create and sell craft products as a hobby or a career. The Arts and Crafts Movement evolved as a response to social changes after the Industrial Revolution in Britain, where workers faced harsh working conditions and low wages. In 1897, the American Arts & Crafts Exhibition, which included "more than 1000 objects by 160 craftsmen," () began the spread of the British Arts and Crafts Movement to the United States in the years before World War I. As said by Hugo Ball in the 1916 edition of the Dada Manifesto, Dada is to be simply described as 'An International word. Just a word, and the word a movement. Very easy to understand." More formally, however, Dada was an artistic movement that surfaced out of the need to express during World War I. It encompassed different art forms like dance, poetry, visual art, music, as well as politics. It was more of an anarchist, anti–establishment manifesto rather than an art style or movement. Dada's destructive tendencies towards mainstream hierarchies caused a unification among people who wanted nothing more than to be able to express themselves freely during a time of war. Dada stems from the emptiness and betrayal a lot of artists felt during this time. It was an ideology, a way of life, it was something that meant to fight for a right to be, a right to say, and a right to act. Dada was, and will continue to be, an emblem of liberation and freedom. During this epoch, a series of 'manifestos' and magazines were released to help proclaim and establish the principles Dada stood for. These works sought to attack any and all compliant social, political and cultural attitudes that existed to oppose the war. Dada had goals to get rid of all artistic hierarchies since all snobby arts from the past were seen as restraining. From 1916 and onward, anything and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Black Arts Movement And The Civil Rights Movement The twentieth century was one of the most active periods of social movements, along with the Civil Rights campaigns of the 1960s was the Antiwar Movement, where most Americans were in opposition with the government on the U.S. involvement in the Vietnam war. Domestically, social and economic conditions gave voice to the people to embark on a revolution for change. For African Americans the struggle for equality had been going on for decades. But the movement went to a new level after the death of Emmitt Till in August 1955, a 14–year–old black boy murdered and disfigured by white men in Mississippi for allegedly flirting with a white woman, and the arrest of Rosa Parks December 1955, who refused to give up her seat in the colored section of the bus to a white passenger. The beginning of the Feminist Movement in 1963 women began to fight for respect and equality socially and economically. The Black Arts Movement which was the cultural wing of the Black Power Movement began to play out on college campuses. The 1970s remained tied to the social experiments and struggles of the 1960s. African Americans were still fighting for education equality around the country. But signs emerged of another change. • 25. Cubism : The Art Movement Of Modern Art Cubism was the art movement that took modern art to the next level. It was one of the first major forms of Abstractionism. Cubism looks as if the painting was build with blocks. Artists used blocks and geometric shapes to form figures of men and women. There was no certain color scheme, however colors were usually very different in order to distinguish parts of the body. Anatomy was jumbled, but bodies were clear and visible.Pablo Picasso is known to be a mastermind of the art world. He essentially invented cubism and contributed to the advancement of modern art. Les Demoiselles d'Avignon is a painting that shows five nude ladies all posing different ways. All of them have very different faces and body shapes, something that was common during Cubism. The women are formed out of geometric shapes, but their forms are definite. Georges Braque was the neighbor of Pablo Picasso and he took Cubism on a different path. Instead of making the shapes 2D, he used light and perspective to make shapes appear 3D. Man with a Guitar is very difficult to distinguish a figure, unlike Picasso's works. If you look closely and focus on different points, you can see a man playing a guitar. The 3D shapes and dark colors give it a slight heavy–hearted feel. Furthermore, the lifestyle of Dick and Jane was obviously viewed as superior to a sad, broken, difficult family life, similar to what Claudia and Pecola were accustomed, so white lifestyles in general were viewed as superior.
