Is Scout An Important Character In To Kill A Mockingbird
Why is Scout Such an Important Character
"To Kill a Mockingbird" is one of the most recognizable books of all time. Ever since it's July 1960 release date it has been hailed for its genius
writing, relatable characters, and narration. The novel is told through the eyes of Scout, a young girl living in the fictional Alabama town of Maycomb,
and how she develops during an important time in her childhood. Scout's character will affect the story in many different ways. As the only narrator, all
of what you know of Maycomb and its inhabitants is through her eyes. Her childlike demeanor, strong southern accent, and personality add to the
book's charm and memorability. You will get to see her evolve as a person throughout the entire story. Scout is not only the most memorable, but the
most important.
In "To Kill a Mockingbird" the primary narrator of the story is Scout. All the characters, setting, and plot are introduced by Scout. You will come to
know these characters through her. Why is Scout as the narrator so important? Simple, you are able to see Scout growing up facing these challenges
internally, instead of externally. Through this story, you understand her emotions and see her learning about the world. This also demonstrates a major
conflict she and her family face. She ultimately comes to her own conclusions. We have all been kids once, so we can relate to Scout and her
dilemma. During the confrontation with Bob Ewell at the ending of the book, if Jem were the

How Literacy Affected My Life
How has literacy impacted my life? From learning to read sight words and write sentences to progressing all the way to thick chapter books and
lengthy essays, literacy has been a long and incredibly significant journey in my life. Literacy has been a fantastic and influential adventure because of
exciting personal experiences that first took root at age two, the inspiration of an elementary school teacher, Mrs. Peake, and memorable events
including the Accelerated Reader program and discovering my favorite childhood book series. My literacy narrative first unfolded in the playroom of
my childhood home when I was an inquisitive two–year–old. My parents would sit down with me on the carpet and patiently teach me sight words.

Jones. Throughout my elementary school years, I became particularly involved in the Accelerated Reader program offered at my school where students
were able to earn points by reading books. Not to mention, students that had high amounts of points were eligible to earn prizes, which of course
caught my attention. This program gave me a greater appreciation for literacy, motivated me to read constantly, and quite frankly, brought out my
competitive side. In the same way, another event that molded my literacy experience, was when the Junie B. Jones book series was placed into my
hands because it quickly became my favorite childhood series. As I read the series, I constantly found myself spontaneously laughing out loud as I
read because of the hilarity of the carefree character, Junie B. Jones. This series marked an enormous milestone in my literacy adventure because it
was not only my favorite childhood series, but it was actually the first series I ever read and led to me discovering numerous other series that I still
revel in today. Overall, these events have been key to forming the entirety of my literacy

Music Culture And The Music Industry
Born in the late 1950's, my dad, Robert, has experienced, first hand, the vast changes in the music industry. The first step into the music culture was
at the start of middle school when my dad joined the school band. Playing the trumpet and baritone was the bait that caused him to become
immersed in music. This initial love of music led to the creation of a garage band with a group of friends adding piano and guitar to the mix. Age
13 signified the second step into the music industry with the purchase of his first record, the Eagles' "Hotel California". This catchy tune was my
dad's first record because the lyrics and beat had an appeal most other songs did not have at the time. Five years later, marked the third step into the
music industry by attending his first concert, The Who. This concert left a lasting impression on anyone who witnessed it because it was not just the
radio anymore, it gave a visual form to the music. Listening to a song on the radio and witnessing the band members perform the song live are two
vastly different experiences. That being said, it has been years since my dad has attended a concert. Although the concert was initially an experience
that left a lasting impression on my father, it did not turn him into a concert fanatic. As he grew and matured over the years, as did his taste in music.
Through his travels with the United States Air Force, he was exposed to a broad variety of cultures along with their different music and sounds.

The Brothers K: A Brief Summary
Spanning the early 1950s to the mid 1970s, David Duncan's The Brothers K outlines the lives of the Chance family in Camas, Washington.
Predominantly written from the perspective of Kincaid Chance, their youngest son, the story follows the memorable events of his life and the lives of
his loved ones. Kincaid, nicknamed "Kade" for short, narrates the story of his family: his father Hugh, his mother Laura, his brothers Everett, Peter, and
Irwin, and his twin sisters Freddy and Bet. As one of the youngest members of this family, Kade admires his parents and older brothers, however he
realizes their countless flaws and continues to support them and love them no matter what catastrophe ensues. As the story progresses, Kade focuses

As each of them grows more distant from their family, they begin to act differently as well. Peter moves to the East Coast and almost completely
ignores his family, while Everett becomes extremely rebellious. Irwin, on the other hand, drops out of college when his girlfriend becomes pregnant.
Later he is drafted and sent to Vietnam to fight. Meanwhile, Everett moves to Canada to avoid the authorities and is left by his girlfriend, causing
him to fall into depression. Peter studies abroad in India after receiving a scholarship, however it is much different than he expected. While in
Vietnam, Irwin attacks his captain and is sent to an untrustworthy mental facility in California. Determined to rescue him, the entire family fights to
have Irwin freed. Once he is freed, however, Hugh discovers that he is dying from lung cancer. Promising to be his caretaker, Kade and the other
brothers reflect upon their father's memorable life before he finally passes away. After Hugh dies, Irwin finds a new passion and becomes successful
through his company. Peter co–owns the company with him, and Kade works for them. As the story ends in the 1970s, the brothers have all
experienced evil and love and have grown as a result of it. Through their extremely tragic lives, the Chance family remembered their love for each
other and managed to keep a close

Literary Analysis Of My Papa's Waltz By Theodore Roethke
The Good old Days While the subject of "My Papa's Waltz" by Theodore Roethke has spurred passionate academic debate from professors,
scholars, and students alike, the imagery, syntax, and diction of the poem clearly support the interpretation that Roethke writes "My Papa's Waltz"
to look back on his most fondest childhood memories he has created of dancing with his father. In Roethke's poem "My Papa's Waltz", many forms
of controversies were inspired do due to the vague nature of his motive for writing and publishing such a work of literature. This divides the
readers into many groups on what is true meaning of the poem about with key points of evidence supporting their claims. Some may believe
Roethke was driven by his father abusing him as a child. Others were convinced into the poem real meaning is about an elegant dance the author has
a child and some believe it to be son recalling the fond memories he creates with his father; Granted, many can come to such a conclusion due to the
vague use of negative connotations found within in the poem. Yet again, we are driven by the large scheme of whether or not the poem has a positive
or negative message of Roethke's childhood memories. After further dissection of the author's piece it is firm to say that he his motive to write "My
Papa's Waltz" was direct. We can come to the solid conclusion of the author's poem was written to reminisce about the memories he had as child that he

My Grandfather, Manickam Sundaram
My grandfather, Manickam Sundaram, was born on the 14th of May 1947, to Sundaram Arunachalam and Kaniammal. He was born in Saidapet,
Chennai, Tamil Nadu– a southern state of India. From a very young age, his life has been a turbulent journey, incorporating many struggles,
perseverance and support from family members and friends alike. His life journey has also been filled with hard–work and unaccountable number of
sacrifices in order to create a solid pathway for his 4 children, whom he considers as his 'manickangal' (gems). My grandfather was born in a time of
poverty and struggle in India, as India had just gained its independence on the 15th of August 1947. Statistics during this time period state that the
poverty rate was approximately 45% to 50% in the urban population and 50% – 55% in the rural population. Being born in Saidapet, an urban city, he
faced poverty at a high level. He began his early childhood living in a joint family, with his paternal grandparents, parents, 5 siblings, uncle, aunt and
6 cousins. They all lived together in their ancestral home, doing their ancestral job of weaving or making 'lungis' (a type of men's garment in India).
During his early years in life, he became a small contributor to the earnings of the family by helping out his dad, in making lungis. His pre–school
days began with waking up early in the morning, eating last night's leftover food, barely enough to sustain the morning hunger, and helping his father.

Quinceanera Summary
Journalists and other nonfiction writers alike occasionally provide accounts of real life traditions and events that occur in various cultures. These
important events are often emphasized by underlining them through sequential and descriptive structure, along with direct quotations from the
participants of the event. In the news article, "Quinceanera Birthday Bash Preserves Tradition, Marks Passage to Womanhood", author Natalie St. John
uses the aforementioned to highlight and depict the details of a quinceaГ±era and its significance in the Mexican culture and community. St. John's use
of structural sequence makes the text organized and easy to follow. This enables the reader to see the scope of a quinceanera and understand the main
idea the author is highlighting about quinceaneras –– by using the phrase, "On a Saturday evening in July", she orients the reader in order to begin
showcasing the event itself. Similarly, she uses other signal words like "the first part..", "the second half...", "early in the evening...", "later, the lights..."

John often use quotes to repeat the exact words of the people they interview without misrepresenting what they say. For example, when she
interviews Sanchez, Vanessa's mother: "'Really for us, it's a tradition,' ... 'It means that you've started a new phase of your life.'" This briefly shows
exactly what a quince means to her, without the interference of a misinterpretation from the author if it were not a direct quote. Additionally, a
segment from Tornoe shows what the hosting of quince might mean in terms of class and wealth to an outsider of the culture: "If you are from
humble beginnings, to a certain degree, it's a status sign to be able to pay for a quinceanera.". St. John's purposeful use of quotes allows the reader to
hear actual perspectives from people involved with quinceaneras. In print, we are able to hear people's voices and the multiple ways a quinceaГ±era is

Childhood In Twenty One Pilots And Lukas Graham
Aging is not just defined as a physical change in human bodies. Aging is also the process maturing and emotional establishment created from
experiences in life that ultimately develops a person's view of the world. The world's view of a person also changes with aging, as the world
expects differently from an adult than it would from a child. Childhood is labeled as carefree, full of dreams, safe, and loving, yet adulthood in seen
as stressful, set in reality, hostile, and unsympathetic. The themes of nostalgic feelings experienced throughout childhood can be observed in the songs
"Stressed Out" by Twenty One Pilots and "7 Years" by Lukas Graham while presenting their unique style of tones and use of symbols that perceive

Both artists view the joyfulness and rewards of adulthood differently. Twenty one Pilots write about "the good old days" (11) and how they "wish
we could turn back time" (11) instead of acknowledging any joys or rewards connected with being an adult. Twenty One Pilots are implying that joys
and rewards felt in adulthood are not comparable or can never supersede by the ones felt during childhood. However, Lukas Graham writes "Soon I'll
be sixty years old, will I think the world is cold / Or will I have a lot of children who can warm me?" (41–42). Lukas Graham disagrees with Twenty
One Pilots view of looking towards the past as the only sense of euphoria by proposing that warmth and reward can be achieved in adulthood with
events like the arrival of Grandchildren. Although both artists use symbols of time and age, they are used in very contrasting

Great Expectations Pip Quotes Growing Up
The Molding of the Main Character "Pause you who read this, and think for a moment of the long chain of iron or gold, of thorns or flowers, that
would never have bound you, but for the formation of the first link on one memorable day." (Dickens 72). In his classic novel, Great Expectations,
Charles Dickens' creates a platform to support and embolden the main character, Pip, with this single, decisive quote. Throughout the novel, the ever
important gold or iron chain of Pip is molded into something new, much like Pip himself. The examination of Pip's growth and maturity in relation to
the quote reveals a critical, memorable moment at Satis House, a catalyst consisting of a handsome property and a mysterious benefactor, and the long,
hard journey ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As most main characters, Pip had humble beginnings, with a misconception of even his own name; "My father's family name being Pip, and my
Christian name Philip, my infant tongue could make of both names nothing longer of more explicit than Pip." (Dickens 9). Most would agree that
not understanding one's own name, even as a child, can be described as "common". And yet, that is why Dicken's gives the main character a name
like that, so he will carry it with him as he grows and leaves his home. It serves as a reminder to the reader of Pip's humble beginnings. However,
humble beginnings aren't as impressive without an achievement later in life. Pip's achievement of growing into an impressive gentleman is most
evident when a friend from his childhood refers to him as a superior, in the quote, "'Which do not overdo it, Pip,' said Joe; 'but I shall be happy fur
to see you able, sir.' The last word grated on me; but how could I remonstrate!" (Dickens 436). In this quote, Joe shows that Pip has grown into a full
fledged gentleman, and that while seemingly repaired, his relationship with Joe, and in turn his childhood, is not undamaged. Indeed, all journeys
include some sort of damage, and one is never complete without the main character attempting to repair said damage by beseeching the family they
had once turned their back on for forgiveness, as Pip does when he says, "And now though I

J. Cole's Speech Analysis
As a little girl, I would stand in front of my mother's mirror, grab the television remote and pretend to deliver a speech before my stuffed animals.
There was no question whenever I was asked, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" that I'd quickly respond with, "the president of the
United States." Although that childhood dream quickly diferred, as a college freshman at the age of 19, I would experience an event that may
someday be written down in history books because it was not an average event of entertainment in seeing J. Cole perform live at a coliseum or

President Obama would be in town to deliver the eulogy for the city hero. The morning of the funeral, I woke up hours in advance to stand in line.
Even then, hundreds stood before me. Never in my life had I seen so many police officers and people from across the world. As I entered the doors

Alter Public Space Research Paper
How does one alter public space? The altering of public spaces means to change the atmosphere of a public area in either a positive or negative way.
Some people alter public space based off their appearance, and others with their actions. There are many ways to alter public space, and it happens
way more than one may realize. There are not many times in my life where I distinctly remember altering public space, but there are a few significant
times that stand out to me. The three most pivotal and memorable experiences that I have had in which I altered public space are the tornado on April
27, 2011, when I first moved to Alabama from Ohio, and when I went to a camp in Colorado for 5 weeks. The most memorable of these three
events is the 2011 tornado. I remember watching the weather channel as it was spotted heading toward Tuscaloosa, only for the power to go out
minutes later. I remember going to the heart of the devastation that evening and just walking around amazed as I looked around at what looked like a
war zone at the time. The very next day my family and I went out into devastated areas and handed out food and water to those who lost their homes.

The Gift Of Tongue Poem Analysis
Poetries with Different Themes Sam Hamill's anthology The Gift of Tongues chose poems from all over the world, considering he thought that these
poems moved him. Hamill chose these poems as long as they all shared similar themes with different poetic strategies for the reader to examine. Some
of the themes that intrigued me throughout the anthology were historical themes and life themes. Historical themes talks about similar incidents that
occurred in different time periods and life themes talks about how life goes on when you get older. All of these poems are memorable for the reason
that they give the reader the chance to feel empathy in different ways, once this empathy is felt is clear the anthology will be memorable. Historical
themes were one of the themes that made this anthology memorable. David Romtvedt, "Kiev, the Ukraine, Nuclear Accident," talks about the nuclear
attack in Ukraine and how he is explaining this from an American citizen point of view. Romtevdt says: For three days it has been raining. In Oregon,

At Mornington, A Poem by Gwen Harwood
Memorable ideas are evident in Harwood's poetry. In her poem, "At Mornington", she considers the philosophical idea that the passing of time leads to
gaining of wisdom. Harwood shows that growth and development are a critical part of defining our individuality. She has effectively used poetic
techniques such as construction; vivid imagery and the context of her own life to explore this idea and contributed to the textual integrity of the piece.
External contextual readings and values of the poem have illuminated the significance of the piece in asserting the value of friendship and relationships,
and presented various ideas such as the inevitability of death, the significance that past events and memories play in shaping present perception as well
as the defining of individuality through growth and development. Together, this contributes to the memorability of the poem. At Mornington is variant
in structure; it is linear, circular and episodic, containing recurring motifs. The lack of a rhyme scheme displays the 'train–of–thought' nature of the
poem, presenting the poem as a reflective journey for the persona. Experiences with family and friends are tied with the poem, starting with a first
witnessing of the sea and then introspectively reflecting on water, memory and death. The episodic recollection of the sea displays the personas
reliance on memories to convey changes in perspective. Thoughts of mortality are developed during a meeting "among avenues of the dead" with

My Experience Is Like A Lifelong Road
In every person's lifetime, they endure phases of life in all aspects. Going through phases of life is like opening a door to enter a room. When a
person goes through any form of entryway, they are entering another area from the one they were in previously. Entering another phase of life is
similar in many ways to going through an entryway, as any person can exit an old phase of life and move on to another one. My adventure to
UMass Lowell is like a lifelong road, one that has taken various turns throughout my childhood and teenage years, and has come to many stops
along my most memorable moments. Like a long roadway, my childhood and adolescent years prior to college have gone through a long cycle of
straightaways and turns. I was diagnosed with autism when I was about a year and a half old. Ever since my diagnosis, every new moment of my
life has always been something different than the moments that have happened before. Sometimes the road of my life would always stay straight
when I would develop into a change that would remain constant for a while, and would frequently make turns for an even better or even worse
moment of my life whenever it would happen. The path my life's road would take is dependent on the temporary or permanent changes that would

My Experience As A Male Dominant Culture
Enculturation is when people learn about their own culture either passively or directly. We are constantly learning about our culture even when we do
not realize it. We learn about our culture through different medias, such as our parents, relatives, and peers. My earliest enculturation experience is
when I was in kindergarten. I learned about culturally accepted behaviors for both genders and experienced double standard between male and female.
My family and my peers were the most influential in this enculturation experience as they were the people I associated with during my early
childhood. My early childhood experience of double standard has shaped my values and how I perceive my culture. Double standard varies culture by
culture, in this paper, I will be explaining my double standard enculturation experience in my Chinese culture.
In the Chinese culture, we are known to be a male dominant culture. Many traditional Chinese family values the males in the family more than the
females because males are usually the head of the family. Males are given more freedom when they are growing up. Female children are often
restricted to do many activities because of society expectation for females' role and behavior. For instance, males tend to participate in masculine
activities like Tae Kwon Do and football while females would participate in feminine activities such as sewing and dancing. Not only there weregender
appropriate activities, but there were gender appropriate toys. In

The Disasters The Days Of Grace Analysis
In this passage, the author encourages writers to use memories from their childhoods, specifically from holidays, as material for their writing.
Holidays are a good place to start when remembering your childhood. They are often memorable. People often take pictures, which can also trigger
memories. Remembering a detail about someone or seeing a picture of them can lead to even more memories. This can help the writer recall another
event that is harder to remember, but had a greater impact on them.
Holidays are often joyful, but can sometimes lead to anger or embarrassment. This is shown by the quote "the disasters, the days of grace". The
bittersweetness of the holidays makes good material for writing. The author mentions "those terrible petaled swim caps, the men's awful trunks". This
shows disappointment in her own family. She believes that her family members are clueless and is embarrassed by them. Additionally, she draws a
contrast between her cousins' Brownie uniforms and her own. This exemplifies her belief that people are constantly judging her. Something as minor as
an untidy uniform can set off her low self–esteem.
The author says to "write down what the grown–ups said and did after they'd had a couple of dozen drinks". After drinking, people say things that they
usually would have kept to themselves. This can create ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This sentiment creates pleasant memories and can inspire beautiful pieces of writing (such as The Gift of the Magi). On the other hand, if something
was wrong, for example, if the writer's family was having financial troubles and couldn't afford a good present, the memory could be bittersweet. The
joy of Christmas combined with the sadness of being unable to afford a good present could also inspire some very heartfelt

Most Memorable Childhood Event
My Most Memorable Event
My most memorable childhood event was when I was 13 years old; it was the Fourth of July. A big family vacation a barbeque, overnight stay and
out of town trip to six flags, and I had a blast the night before me, my mom, sisters and brothers packed our bags to stay the night over my cousin
house in Goodlettsville, Tennessee. She had the biggest house ever I thought it was a mansion; five bedrooms two and half bath, a swimming pool, a
game/movie room with a nice big kitchen. It was something that I was not use, knowing that we stayed in a three bedroom based on an income
apartment on the East side of Nashville.
Arriving to my cousin house I saw a lot of my family members even the ones that was from out of town. We greeted each other and we went on
about our business. As my grandmother, mom, and aunts prepared the food for the barbeque. The other adult gathered around different table's
playing cards, dominos, shooting dice, and watching movies or sports on TV. I remember me my siblings and cousins played outside from
swimming; sports, danced and hide go seek anything that you could think of for children to do. When the food was ready we gathered together and
said prey and feast. After dinner was served everyone went to movie room for family time. We watched a movie called Madea's Family Reunion by
Tyler Perry. The Movie reminded me so much of my family. It let me know that family is everything and no family is perfect. We just have to learn to

What Is The Theme Of Digging By Seamus Heaney
Seamus Heaney portrays his childhood as an unforgettable, fond, and special memory, which can be seen in three different poems: "Digging",
"Churning Day", and "Blackberry–Picking". His endless expressions of affection towards childhood symbolises that it was influential and favourable
time for him.
Heaney expresses that childhood is unforgettable to him through the usage of regular activities. People usually remember activities that influenced
them the most. And regular activities, which happen over a long period of time, are more influential, and thus are more memorable. In the poem
"Digging", his grandfather and father are farmers, constantly digging. Since they are farmers, they are not digging only for the day, but they have been

It is scientifically proven that people remember more clearly if their senses are involved. And most of the activities involves many different senses,
which are described by Heaney in a detail. There are three senses involved in the poem "Digging". Heaney remembers the "clean, rasping sound" he
heard, "cool hardness" he touched, and "the cold smell of mould" he smelt. Moreover, senses are described in more detail in the poem through the
usage of similes such as in the poem "Churning Day". In the poem, Heaney recalls the "stink" he smelt that was "acrid as sulphur mine" and "the plash
and gurgle of the sour–breathed milk" that he heard. Also in the poem "Blackberry–Picking", Heaney uses similes to describe the sense of taste and the
sense of smell. He describes twice to reinforce the clarity of the memory. He mentions that "the flesh was sweet" that it tasted like "thickened wine".
Later in the poem, he refers to the sense of taste again that it was "sweet flesh sour". Even the sense of smell was engaged. The blackberries were
"stinking" and they "smelt of rot". All those specific and detailed narration of senses point that so many senses were involved, which make the memory
distinguished from other memories and thus to be more memorable. And the fact that Heaney describes the senses in detail proves that the memory is

Childhood Amnesia and the Beginnings of Memory for Four...
When we ask people to recall experiences, they rarely report memories dating from much before about three years of age. For the purpose of this
assessment I have chosen the 'Childhood Amnesia and the Beginnings of Memory for Four Early Life Events' conducted by JoNell A. Usher and Ulric
Neisser, published in 1993 in the Journal of Experimental Psychology: General. Therefore, in the following paragraphs I will outline the aim of the
study, the methodology and the overall findings.
The current research indicates that most of the early memories are of distressing experiences. It is predicted that under certain conditions, children are
able to recall painful and potentially harrowing medical experiences, such as shots (Goodman, Rudy, Bottoms, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Participants were aware of the background survey but they did not know that the experiment was focused on memory.
In terms of the methodology, the investigators used a specific number of questionnaires per targeted events. To assess the offset of childhoodamnesia
two main, broad, questionnaires were used. Each one with subsequent, more relevant and event–targeted, set of questions. Additionally, participants
were instructed to analyse the frequency and recency of their thoughts in relation to the target event using 4–point and 5–point scales. Furthermore,
participants' mothers were told to evaluate what their children reported as childhood memories. In order to try to trigger their memory, researchers
asked the participants about 'external information sources', such as photographs, personal stories, etc. Even though the researchers were allowed to
select the participants and classify them into predefined categories however, this approach faced a couple of limitations. First of all, participants could
have provided better responses if they were interviewed rather than asked to fill in questionnaires. Moreover, the researchers could have triggered the
participants memory better (without using pictures or family stories; needless to say that preliminary results indicated that these

Selective Writing Style Of The Blind Man
The authors selective writing style is through first person and we are told the story through the narrator. He is married to his wife, who they are both
not given names throughout the story. The wife has an old friend, who is coming down for a visit due to the tragic event of his wife's passed due to
cancer. Throughout the story, the narrator struggles with insight of different lifestyles, prejudiced opinions towards the blind man, and attempting to
secure a way to adjust his life for a favor his wife inquired. The narrator will soon realize that be needs to maintain an open mind to other people's
lifestyles and needs to sees struggle through a different perspective. The limited world that the protagonist lives in is based off a very stereotypical
mindset that the authors shows to the audience. The ignorance that the narrator shows is due to the lack of interaction that he has ever had with people
who suffer from different disabilities; let alone being blind. Some of these limitations that the narrator had could have been caused by the relationship
that his wife and the blind man had. They communicated by sending tapes to one another. They did this through everything, even after the narrator's
wife attempted suicide from swallowing pills and capsules and washing them down with a bottle of gin. They had a very strange but powerful
relationship. It is blatantly stated throughout the story that the narrator is not a fan of the blind man. From the start he informed

trend of major influence coming from many different types of media. An example of this is social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook.

(Barge & Schlueter, 2004, p. 237) describes memorable messages as embedded with assumptions about who can speak, about what and when, through
that medium, and with what intent and these discourses structure a set of obligations and opportunities for relationships and identities. Knapp states
that memorable messages have three different qualities that make a good memorable message. To start, (Knapp et al., 1981) states that "First,
memorable messages often come from someone who is older and of higher status," Most campaigns will use a spokesperson who is well–known to the
public; an example of this is a celebrity putting their name towards a cause. These spokespeople are often the campaign's biggest supporters both
financially and motivational. (Miles A, et. al., 2001) describes that research into adult interventions shows that those who take part in mass media
health campaigns are women from higher socioeconomic groups who are already engaging in better health practices. "Second, memorable messages
are "often brief oral injunctions that prescribe rules of conduct for solving a personal problem," (Knapp et al., 1981). These would be more explicit
directives, such as "Exercise more" and "You should eat smaller portions," such as. Also, we may expect that parents ' messages will show their
attitudes toward overweight and obesity that imply a rule. For example, if a parent tells their child, "Obese people

In My Antonia, Willa Cather emphasizes the importance of the past through Jum Burden's narration. Jim Burden realizes at the conclusion of the novel
how much he enjoyed his childhood days and how much his memories mean to him. There are three events that Cather included in the novel which
contribute greatly to the overall theme, concerning the importance of the past.
One event is in Chapter II of Book III. Jim decides to write about his youth in Nebraska as Vergil has just done. As he is thinking about this,Lena

a half–mile stretch of the old wagon–road "which used to run like a wild thing across the open prairie." The memory of his first ride over that road
comes to him strongly. Now he feels that this road has brought him and Antonia back together. It is "the road of Destiny" along which their lives have
traveled.
Another event appears in chapter 14 of book II. Antonia and Jim are having a picnic by the river. It is an important event formany reasons. First, the
past is brought up, when Antonia says, "It would be like old times." The reader can only be reminded of the events that have taken place in Book I.
For example when Jim walks two miles towards the river. At the riverbank he takes a swim and realizes how much he will miss this river once he goes
off to college. Jim skated, swam and fished on this river throughout his childhood. Second, it is the last shared afternoon of Jim and Antonia's youth.
Throughout their youth, Jim and Antonia share a number of memorable moments, like the time when Jim teaches Antonia how to read. However, this
is their last day together in their childhood. Soon, Jim will be going away to college so the future is near. Then, he finds Antonia crying because she is

Personal Narrative: My Trip To Walt Disney World
One memory that vividly sticks out in my mind from my childhood was that special summer when my parents told me we were going on a trip to

arrived at the park, pure bliss and amazement showed on our faces. We took a ferry boat from the parking lot to the entrance of the park. Once
inside the park, we headed for the rides. Some of my favorite rides were The Haunted Mansion, Thunder Mountain, and Splash Mountain. My
sibling and I were very thrilled and cheerful. Next, we visited Magic Kingdom to watch a parade of all the Disney characters. We were elated to
find out we would get to take pictures with Goofy, Mickey Mouse, and Donald the Duck. My parents purchased chicken tender meals. Also, we ate
snacks such as elephant ears and cotton candy. Grandma had given us money to buy extra junk that my parents would not buy. As the day began to

My Papas Waltz And My Father's Song
Every one of us has a childhood, some of us may experience a memorable one, while some of us want to erase it from our memory. Everyone also
has their own personal feelings towards a father's figure due to their personal experiences they have as a child. The poems "My Father's Song," by
Simon J. Ortiz, and "My Papa's Waltz," by Theodore Roethke, are two similar poems written about a father and child relationship. My Papa's Waltz"
creates a debate whether the father–son relationship is sweet loving memory or a confession of childhood abuse. The two poems are spoken from the
child's point of view during a memorable event in their childhood. The poems "My Father's Song and "My Papa's Waltz" both share a theme of
admiration each kid has looking upon their father and a warm memory. The writers use a variety of poetic devices such as tone, word choice, imagery,
and figurative language. Firstly, In "My Father's Song," the tone is nostalgia, it's a perfect demonstration of emotion the speaker feels about his father.
"My Papa's Waltz," poem's tone is playful and light created by the pleasant rhythm iambic, which makes the poem short and sweet. The tone is
promoted through word choice, Both writers use similar word choice to strengthen the theme of admiration. In the poem, "My Papa's Waltz," gives
us a both and negative feeling, he uses words such as "Still clinging to your shirt" this shows that he hangs onto his father's shirt, not wanting to let
go after his father waltzing him off to bed. His descriptions of the dance give us a fun, playful feeling. Despite the fact the waltz is tough, he still
loves his dad. In "My Father's song," the speaker remembers his father's voice. The speaker describes his experience as "His voice, the slight catch, the
depth from his this thin crest, the tremble of emotion in something he has just said to his son, his song" (Ortiz 3–7). The speaker remembers every
detail about his father. The child misses his father and cared profoundly about him, especially more tonight "Wanting to say things, I miss my father
tonight" (1–2)
Thirdly, Both writers use a lot of imagery in their poems, they use a big amount of imagination to tell their experiences. Each poem is developed out of

not dwelling over them. She lets go of them as easily as a feather falls. For instance, the narrator explains every time she visits her mother she owns
less and gradually only has a small amount of stuff left over. The narrator addresses the few things remaining are the ones given to her by her children.
The mother implies letting go of tangible things and holding on harder to remember the important people is more precious. The remarkable idea of
recycling everything and feeling no regret is unforgettable. Many people value material possession rather than well–being and actualized lives. The
unforgettable reaction of the mother being so genuinely happy and sustained with the smallest amount of objects is shocking. Living in a materialistic

Writing Style Of Frankenstein
Mary Shelley writing style for the novel Frankenstein is very special as it is written in a creative narrative point of view even though when
reading it there are times when one can forget that Robert Walton is the true singular narrator. Frankenstein is both a frame narrative and a story
within a story, the story within the story is seen through Walton telling of Victor's telling of the Creature's story. Mary Shelley's writing style can
clearly be seen in the novel with the letters from Robert Walton to his sister in which you can see the narrative point of view, however as you
continue to chapter one it becomes hard to see that as it becomes the story within a story which then again happens when the creature tell Victor
about what he has been doing since he was created. All of theses events are told by Walton yet it is hard to tell as the novel began to use words like
"I" and "my" as if Victor was the narrator for example "I am by birth a Genevese, and my family is one of the most distinguished of that republic."
(19) which is describing Victor yet it seems as he is saying it. This can be seen throughout the main part of the story but towards the end with "You
have read this strange and terrific story, Margaret..." (182) you can again see that Walton has been the narrator the whole time.Frankenstein is a novel
that is full of memorable quotes many of which have a much deeper meaning, one of the first ones is "What may not be expected in a country of
eternal light?" (3)

  • 2. How Literacy Affected My Life How has literacy impacted my life? From learning to read sight words and write sentences to progressing all the way to thick chapter books and lengthy essays, literacy has been a long and incredibly significant journey in my life. Literacy has been a fantastic and influential adventure because of exciting personal experiences that first took root at age two, the inspiration of an elementary school teacher, Mrs. Peake, and memorable events including the Accelerated Reader program and discovering my favorite childhood book series. My literacy narrative first unfolded in the playroom of my childhood home when I was an inquisitive two–year–old. My parents would sit down with me on the carpet and patiently teach me sight words. Every time I would... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jones. Throughout my elementary school years, I became particularly involved in the Accelerated Reader program offered at my school where students were able to earn points by reading books. Not to mention, students that had high amounts of points were eligible to earn prizes, which of course caught my attention. This program gave me a greater appreciation for literacy, motivated me to read constantly, and quite frankly, brought out my competitive side. In the same way, another event that molded my literacy experience, was when the Junie B. Jones book series was placed into my hands because it quickly became my favorite childhood series. As I read the series, I constantly found myself spontaneously laughing out loud as I read because of the hilarity of the carefree character, Junie B. Jones. This series marked an enormous milestone in my literacy adventure because it was not only my favorite childhood series, but it was actually the first series I ever read and led to me discovering numerous other series that I still revel in today. Overall, these events have been key to forming the entirety of my literacy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Music Culture And The Music Industry Born in the late 1950's, my dad, Robert, has experienced, first hand, the vast changes in the music industry. The first step into the music culture was at the start of middle school when my dad joined the school band. Playing the trumpet and baritone was the bait that caused him to become immersed in music. This initial love of music led to the creation of a garage band with a group of friends adding piano and guitar to the mix. Age 13 signified the second step into the music industry with the purchase of his first record, the Eagles' "Hotel California". This catchy tune was my dad's first record because the lyrics and beat had an appeal most other songs did not have at the time. Five years later, marked the third step into the music industry by attending his first concert, The Who. This concert left a lasting impression on anyone who witnessed it because it was not just the radio anymore, it gave a visual form to the music. Listening to a song on the radio and witnessing the band members perform the song live are two vastly different experiences. That being said, it has been years since my dad has attended a concert. Although the concert was initially an experience that left a lasting impression on my father, it did not turn him into a concert fanatic. As he grew and matured over the years, as did his taste in music. Through his travels with the United States Air Force, he was exposed to a broad variety of cultures along with their different music and sounds. Although his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Literary Analysis Of My Papa's Waltz By Theodore Roethke The Good old Days While the subject of "My Papa's Waltz" by Theodore Roethke has spurred passionate academic debate from professors, scholars, and students alike, the imagery, syntax, and diction of the poem clearly support the interpretation that Roethke writes "My Papa's Waltz" to look back on his most fondest childhood memories he has created of dancing with his father. • 7. Quinceanera Summary Journalists and other nonfiction writers alike occasionally provide accounts of real life traditions and events that occur in various cultures. These important events are often emphasized by underlining them through sequential and descriptive structure, along with direct quotations from the participants of the event. In the news article, "Quinceanera Birthday Bash Preserves Tradition, Marks Passage to Womanhood", author Natalie St. John uses the aforementioned to highlight and depict the details of a quinceaГ±era and its significance in the Mexican culture and community. St. John's use of structural sequence makes the text organized and easy to follow. This enables the reader to see the scope of a quinceanera and understand the main idea the author is highlighting about quinceaneras –– by using the phrase, "On a Saturday evening in July", she orients the reader in order to begin showcasing the event itself. This briefly shows exactly what a quince means to her, without the interference of a misinterpretation from the author if it were not a direct quote. Additionally, a segment from Tornoe shows what the hosting of quince might mean in terms of class and wealth to an outsider of the culture: "If you are from humble beginnings, to a certain degree, it's a status sign to be able to pay for a quinceanera.". • 9. Childhood In Twenty One Pilots And Lukas Graham Aging is not just defined as a physical change in human bodies. Aging is also the process maturing and emotional establishment created from experiences in life that ultimately develops a person's view of the world. The world's view of a person also changes with aging, as the world expects differently from an adult than it would from a child. Childhood is labeled as carefree, full of dreams, safe, and loving, yet adulthood in seen as stressful, set in reality, hostile, and unsympathetic. The themes of nostalgic feelings experienced throughout childhood can be observed in the songs "Stressed Out" by Twenty One Pilots and "7 Years" by Lukas Graham while presenting their unique style of tones and use of symbols that perceive differing views of... Twenty One Pilots are implying that joys and rewards felt in adulthood are not comparable or can never supersede by the ones felt during childhood. However, Lukas Graham writes "Soon I'll be sixty years old, will I think the world is cold / Or will I have a lot of children who can warm me?" (41–42). • 10. Great Expectations Pip Quotes Growing Up The Molding of the Main Character "Pause you who read this, and think for a moment of the long chain of iron or gold, of thorns or flowers, that would never have bound you, but for the formation of the first link on one memorable day." (Dickens 72). In his classic novel, Great Expectations, Charles Dickens' creates a platform to support and embolden the main character, Pip, with this single, decisive quote. Throughout the novel, the ever important gold or iron chain of Pip is molded into something new, much like Pip himself. The examination of Pip's growth and maturity in relation to the quote reveals a critical, memorable moment at Satis House, a catalyst consisting of a handsome property and a mysterious benefactor, and the long, hard journey ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As most main characters, Pip had humble beginnings, with a misconception of even his own name; "My father's family name being Pip, and my Christian name Philip, my infant tongue could make of both names nothing longer of more explicit than Pip." (Dickens 9). Most would agree that not understanding one's own name, even as a child, can be described as "common". And yet, that is why Dicken's gives the main character a name like that, so he will carry it with him as he grows and leaves his home. It serves as a reminder to the reader of Pip's humble beginnings. However, humble beginnings aren't as impressive without an achievement later in life. Pip's achievement of growing into an impressive gentleman is most evident when a friend from his childhood refers to him as a superior, in the quote, "'Which do not overdo it, Pip,' said Joe; 'but I shall be happy fur to see you able, sir.' The last word grated on me; but how could I remonstrate!" (Dickens 436). In this quote, Joe shows that Pip has grown into a full fledged gentleman, and that while seemingly repaired, his relationship with Joe, and in turn his childhood, is not undamaged. Indeed, all journeys include some sort of damage, and one is never complete without the main character attempting to repair said damage by beseeching the family they had once turned their back on for forgiveness, as Pip does when he says, "And now though I ... Although that childhood dream quickly diferred, as a college freshman at the age of 19, I would experience an event that may someday be written down in history books because it was not an average event of entertainment in seeing J. • 12. Alter Public Space Research Paper How does one alter public space? The altering of public spaces means to change the atmosphere of a public area in either a positive or negative way. Some people alter public space based off their appearance, and others with their actions. There are many ways to alter public space, and it happens way more than one may realize. There are not many times in my life where I distinctly remember altering public space, but there are a few significant times that stand out to me. The three most pivotal and memorable experiences that I have had in which I altered public space are the tornado on April 27, 2011, when I first moved to Alabama from Ohio, and when I went to a camp in Colorado for 5 weeks. The most memorable of these three events is the 2011 tornado. I remember watching the weather channel as it was spotted heading toward Tuscaloosa, only for the power to go out minutes later. I remember going to the heart of the devastation that evening and just walking around amazed as I looked around at what looked like a war zone at the time. The very next day my family and I went out into devastated areas and handed out food and water to those who lost their homes. It was in doing this that I can look back and notice how I altered ... • 14.

The Gift Of Tongue Poem Analysis Poetries with Different Themes Sam Hamill's anthology The Gift of Tongues chose poems from all over the world, considering he thought that these poems moved him. Hamill chose these poems as long as they all shared similar themes with different poetic strategies for the reader to examine. Some of the themes that intrigued me throughout the anthology were historical themes and life themes. Historical themes talks about similar incidents that occurred in different time periods and life themes talks about how life goes on when you get older. All of these poems are memorable for the reason that they give the reader the chance to feel empathy in different ways, once this empathy is felt is clear the anthology will be memorable. Historical themes were one of the themes that made this anthology memorable. David Romtvedt, "Kiev, the Ukraine, Nuclear Accident," talks about the nuclear attack in Ukraine and how he is explaining this from an American citizen point of view. • 17. At Mornington, A Poem by Gwen Harwood Memorable ideas are evident in Harwood's poetry. In her poem, "At Mornington", she considers the philosophical idea that the passing of time leads to gaining of wisdom. Harwood shows that growth and development are a critical part of defining our individuality. She has effectively used poetic techniques such as construction; vivid imagery and the context of her own life to explore this idea and contributed to the textual integrity of the piece. External contextual readings and values of the poem have illuminated the significance of the piece in asserting the value of friendship and relationships, and presented various ideas such as the inevitability of death, the significance that past events and memories play in shaping present perception as well as the defining of individuality through growth and development. Together, this contributes to the memorability of the poem. At Mornington is variant in structure; it is linear, circular and episodic, containing recurring motifs. The lack of a rhyme scheme displays the 'train–of–thought' nature of the poem, presenting the poem as a reflective journey for the persona. Experiences with family and friends are tied with the poem, starting with a first witnessing of the sea and then introspectively reflecting on water, memory and death. The episodic recollection of the sea displays the personas reliance on memories to convey changes in perspective. When a person goes through any form of entryway, they are entering another area from the one they were in previously. Entering another phase of life is similar in many ways to going through an entryway, as any person can exit an old phase of life and move on to another one. My adventure to UMass Lowell is like a lifelong road, one that has taken various turns throughout my childhood and teenage years, and has come to many stops along my most memorable moments. We are constantly learning about our culture even when we do not realize it. We learn about our culture through different medias, such as our parents, relatives, and peers. My earliest enculturation experience is when I was in kindergarten. I learned about culturally accepted behaviors for both genders and experienced double standard between male and female. My family and my peers were the most influential in this enculturation experience as they were the people I associated with during my early childhood. My early childhood experience of double standard has shaped my values and how I perceive my culture. Double standard varies culture by culture, in this paper, I will be explaining my double standard enculturation experience in my Chinese culture. In the Chinese culture, we are known to be a male dominant culture. Many traditional Chinese family values the males in the family more than the females because males are usually the head of the family. Males are given more freedom when they are growing up. Female children are often restricted to do many activities because of society expectation for females' role and behavior. • 24. The Disasters The Days Of Grace Analysis In this passage, the author encourages writers to use memories from their childhoods, specifically from holidays, as material for their writing. Holidays are a good place to start when remembering your childhood. They are often memorable. People often take pictures, which can also trigger memories. Remembering a detail about someone or seeing a picture of them can lead to even more memories. This can help the writer recall another event that is harder to remember, but had a greater impact on them. Holidays are often joyful, but can sometimes lead to anger or embarrassment. This is shown by the quote "the disasters, the days of grace". The bittersweetness of the holidays makes good material for writing. The author mentions "those terrible petaled swim caps, the men's awful trunks". This shows disappointment in her own family. She believes that her family members are clueless and is embarrassed by them. Additionally, she draws a contrast between her cousins' Brownie uniforms and her own. This exemplifies her belief that people are constantly judging her. Something as minor as an untidy uniform can set off her low self–esteem. His endless expressions of affection towards childhood symbolises that it was influential and favourable time for him. Heaney expresses that childhood is unforgettable to him through the usage of regular activities. People usually remember activities that influenced them the most. There are three senses involved in the poem "Digging". Heaney remembers the "clean, rasping sound" he heard, "cool hardness" he touched, and "the cold smell of mould" he smelt. Moreover, senses are described in more detail in the poem through the usage of similes such as in the poem "Churning Day". In the poem, Heaney recalls the "stink" he smelt that was "acrid as sulphur mine" and "the plash and gurgle of the sour–breathed milk" that he heard. Also in the poem "Blackberry–Picking", Heaney uses similes to describe the sense of taste and the sense of smell. He describes twice to reinforce the clarity of the memory. He mentions that "the flesh was sweet" that it tasted like "thickened wine". Later in the poem, he refers to the sense of taste again that it was "sweet flesh sour". Even the sense of smell was engaged. The blackberries were "stinking" and they "smelt of rot". All those specific and detailed narration of senses point that so many senses were involved, which make the memory distinguished from other memories and thus to be more memorable. Knapp states that memorable messages have three different qualities that make a good memorable message. To start, (Knapp et al., 1981) states that "First, memorable messages often come from someone who is older and of higher status," Most campaigns will use a spokesperson who is well–known to the public; an example of this is a celebrity putting their name towards a cause. These spokespeople are often the campaign's biggest supporters both financially and motivational. (Miles A, et. al., 2001) describes that research into adult interventions shows that those who take part in mass media health campaigns are women from higher socioeconomic groups who are already engaging in better health practices. "Second, memorable messages are "often brief oral injunctions that prescribe rules of conduct for solving a personal problem," (Knapp et al., 1981). These would be more explicit directives, such as "Exercise more" and "You should eat smaller portions," such as. Everyone also has their own personal feelings towards a father's figure due to their personal experiences they have as a child. The poems "My Father's Song," by Simon J. Ortiz, and "My Papa's Waltz," by Theodore Roethke, are two similar poems written about a father and child relationship. My Papa's Waltz" creates a debate whether the father–son relationship is sweet loving memory or a confession of childhood abuse. The two poems are spoken from the child's point of view during a memorable event in their childhood. The poems "My Father's Song and "My Papa's Waltz" both share a theme of admiration each kid has looking upon their father and a warm memory. The writers use a variety of poetic devices such as tone, word choice, imagery, and figurative language. Firstly, In "My Father's Song," the tone is nostalgia, it's a perfect demonstration of emotion the speaker feels about his father. • 39. Writing Style Of Frankenstein Mary Shelley writing style for the novel Frankenstein is very special as it is written in a creative narrative point of view even though when reading it there are times when one can forget that Robert Walton is the true singular narrator. Frankenstein is both a frame narrative and a story within a story, the story within the story is seen through Walton telling of Victor's telling of the Creature's story. Mary Shelley's writing style can clearly be seen in the novel with the letters from Robert Walton to his sister in which you can see the narrative point of view, however as you continue to chapter one it becomes hard to see that as it becomes the story within a story which then again happens when the creature tell Victor about what he has been doing since he was created. All of theses events are told by Walton yet it is hard to tell as the novel began to use words like "I" and "my" as if Victor was the narrator for example "I am by birth a Genevese, and my family is one of the most distinguished of that republic." (19) which is describing Victor yet it seems as he is saying it. This can be seen throughout the main part of the story but towards the end with "You have read this strange and terrific story, Margaret..." (182) you can again see that Walton has been the narrator the whole time.Frankenstein is a novel that is full of memorable quotes many of which have a much deeper meaning, one of the first ones is "What may not be expected in a country of eternal light?"
