Hanukkah
Hanukkah Many families during the month of December are busy shopping for Christmas presents, decorating a Christmas tree, and getting ready for
Santa Clause. For those families celebrating Hanukkah this can conclude of preparing Latkes, singing Ma'Oz Tzur, and lighting the candles of the
Menorah. Hanukkah or" Chanukah" is an eight day and eight nights Jewish holiday established on the 25 of Kislev (Macaulay).Hanukkah dates are
different every year. For 2015 Hanukkah is celebrated on the 6th of December thru December 14th (Chabad). Hanukkah is a celebration of the Jews
victory against the Greek and the oil that lasted eight days and eight nights in the Holy Temple (ifcg). The origin of Hanukkah comes from the heroic
victory from the Greeks. While celebrating Hanukkah there are many traditions and customs.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For ones of Jewish faith a Christmas tree is replaced for a Menorah. A Menorah is Hebrew for "candelabrum" a ceremonial lamp of nine branches
(Jewishvirtuallibrary). The Menorah is the oldest and main ritual object during Hanukkah (Ibid). Every year at nightfall the first candle of the
Menorah is lit (Chabad). "A light unto the nations" Isaiah 42:6 is said to be the Menorah mission statement and is the symbol of Israel nation
(Jewishvirtuallibrary). After the Jews flock the Greek emperor Antiochus and the Greek from their land as the emperor forbidden the study of the
Torah and tainted the Holy Temple with Greek symbols (Chabad). The Jews regained their Holy Temple on 25th of Kislev the Hebrew month
consisting of November toward December (ibid). That same day the Jews went to light the candles of the temples Menorah only to realize that the
Greek had polluted all of the oil with only an enough to provide one night of light from the candles (ibid). However, the oils had lasted eight days and
eight nights therefore creating eight days and eight nights celebration of Hanukkah

Mendel Shneerson Research Paper
Holden Hirsch 6/28/15 MJH Rosen Menachem Mendel Schneerson Webster dictionary defines "Rebbe" as a rabbi or Jewish spiritual leader, esp. of
the Hasidic sect. The Lubavitcher Rebbi, Rebbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, is the seventh leader of the Chabad Lubavitch movement, and is
considered one of the most influential Jewish personalities in modern times. The Rebbe was born in 1992 in Nikolaev, Russia, to the renown
kabbalist, Talmudic scholar, Rabbi Levi Yitzchak and Rebbetzin Chana Schneerson. in 1907, when Menachem Mendel was six years old, the
Schneersons moved to Yekatrinislavv where Rabbi Levi Yitzchak was appointed Chief Rabbi of the city. At age 11, his tutor, Zalman Velenkin, had

Rabbi Moshe Weinberger of YU's Stone Beit Medrish Program agrees that the balance between traditional Judaic studies and spirituality is missing
throughout a lot of the Modern Orthodox community. The success of the most influential Modern Orthodox Jewish youth organizations, NCSY and
Bnei Akiva, are based upon characteristically Chassidic traditions, such as singing, dancing, and storytelling. Of Course, the Modern Orthodox
movement stresses the importance of all singing, dancing, and storytelling, but not to the extent of the Chassidic movement. And I believe that the
success of NCSY and Bnei Akiva are due to focus on the characteristically Chassidic traditions. Further, the culmination of the Rebbe's movement has
led to what Rabbi Moshe Weinberger calls the "neo–chassidus" movement. This movement is popular among young Modern Jewish Orthodoxy that
have grown up having difficulty connecting with their spirituality. "Neo–Chassidus" enables people to connect to God in their own unique way. Rather
than learning Talmud, they will learn navi: rather than have an only Hebrew siddur, they will have opt for Hebrew and

My Name Is Asher Lev Essay
Asher Lev Essay: Minor characters are central to our understanding of any text. Analyse their significance in My Name Is Asher Lev.
Central to our understanding of "My name is Asher Lev" by Chaim Potok, is the dynamics of Asher's relationship with different minor characters
involved. Each minor character such as Yudel Krinsky, Uncle Yitzchok, the Rebbe, and JacobKahn each help Asher in a different way allowing the
reader to interpret the text more thoroughly. Their guidance to the antagonist creates a vivid image inside the reader's mind of the type of character and
their importance to our understanding of the text. Each minor character listed has a deep impact on the resolution of Asher Lev

He represents the actions of the Russian government sending people it hates, the Jews, and the result of Asher's father tiresome work. As Asher
learns to paint using more and more materials, Yudel Krinsky provides them to him. Even though Yudel knows the consequences of his actions of
providing Asher with paint, he in a way repaying Asher back for Aryeh Lev's service to him. When Asher is at his own home, or at his Uncle's
house, Yudel Krinsky provides an opening and expands Asher's artistic horizons and ability by supplying the materials. He positively mirrors Asher
and tries to help Asher preserve his heritage as a Hasidic Jew whilst still supporting his individuality. Asher is able to talk to Yudel like a father,
having open discussions with him, and on occasion helps him in the store and is able to feel comfortable. The store is described as warm by Asher in
the latter part of the text when returning from Europe, and is appropriately addressed because it feels like Asher's second home, warm and cozy.
Our mind conjures an image of Yudel after Chaim Potok's first technique of imagery is used to describe him. "He was short and thin, with large
bulging eyes, a beaklike nose, and pinched wrinkled features. A dark stubble covered his face." He starts of being described in uncomplimentary
terms. Asher perceives him as being peculiar and foreign. "You learned the store quickly," said Aryeh, "I have learned more difficult things than this

Jews During The 19th Century
Jews have a fairly long history in Hungary. It is believed that the first Jews settled in Hungary in the 2nd century CE (World Jewish Congress). In 1251
there was a Jewish charter that put all the Jews under royal protection. After this, there was a large number of Jews that moved to Hungary which led to
the development of historical communities. After the annexation of Hungary by the Ottoman Turks, Jews lived in peace, as long as they paid taxes.
Along with the expulsion of the Ottoman Turks, the Jews disappeared from Hungary. It was not until the 18th century where Ashkenazi Jews starting
arriving from Czech and German territories (World Jewish Congress). By the end of the 18th century there were just under 100,000 Jews living in ...

Over 400,000 Jews were moved from their homes to ghettos. In May 1944, deportation began. Some Jews escaped to Romania, neutral countries, or
Budapest. Zionists helped Jews by providing fake passports, food, clothing, and places to hide. Unfortunately, Budapest did not always remain a safe
haven for Hungarian Jews. The majority of these Jews were sent to ghettos. By January 1945, nearly 98,000 Jews from Budapest had died on marches
to Austria. At the end of the war, about 565,000 Hungarian Jews perished (Jewish Virtual Library).
Post–Holocaust, about 250 Jewish communities were reestablished, mainly in Budapest. The Hungarian government abolished their anti–Jewish
legislation. In December 1948, the Jewish communities were recognized, guaranteed religious freedom, and were promised financial support. At this
time, the Zionist movement started building schools and youth groups. Diplomatic relations with Israel were established in 1948, which led to a large
group of Hungarian Jews immigrating to Israel.
The rise of the Communist Party led to the closure of many Jewish institutions and the arrest of Jewish activists. Mass immigration to Israel was not
allowed. About 20,000 Jews from Budapest were forced to leave. The year 1967 marked the end of diplomatic ties to Israel. (Jewish Virtual Library).
In the 1970s, there were only about 60,000 Jews in Hungary, with many of them living in Budapest. The fall of the communist government ended the

The Purpose And Scripture Of Isaiah 40 : 27-31
Isaiah 40
Isaiah 40:27–31 is the passage of scripture that this essay will attempt to explain. Isaiah was a prophet to the people of Israel during the eighth century
B.C. Isaiah had seen in his life four kings take the throne of Judah and he experienced the fall of the Northern kingdom, known as Israel. During Isaiah's
life, the state of the Jewish people was not good. The Jewish people were consumed with idolatry and immortality.
Isaiah, in one of the most historic passages in scripture, gives us great insight into how to live our lives with purpose and endurance. Isaiah 40:27–31
states,
Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, "My way is hidden from the Lord, and my right is disregarded by my God"? 28 Have you not known?
Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is
unsearchable. 29 He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. 30 Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young
men shall fall exhausted; 31 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and
not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. (ESV)
Isaiah has already warned Israel of their coming judgement and knows that in their own works to save themselves they are growing tired. Matthew
Henry in his commentary on this passage mentions, "it is bad to have evil thoughts rise in our minds, but worse to turn

The Aftermath Of The Holocaust
Where would you go if your home was taken from you? What would you do if you haven't seen your home in five years? Millions were displaced.
The survivors did not know where to go. Some didn't even know what to call home. The main points I am going to focus on are: what happened after
the Holocaust ended, Rebuilding Jewish Life after the Holocaust, and the Homeland, Israel. World War II ended in the spring of 1945. "Germany
unconditional surrender on May 8, 1945" (Jewish Life in Austria and Germany Since 1945, 47). An article called The Aftermath of The Holocaust, in
the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum website states that: "in 1945, when Anglo–American and Soviet troops entered the concentration
camps, they discovered piles of corpses, bones, and human ashes–testimony to Nazi mass murder. Soldiers also found thousands of Jewish and
non–Jewish survivors suffering from starvation and disease. For survivors, the prospect of rebuilding their lives was daunting (The Aftermath of The
Holocaust)." After the war was over, there was still a lot of hatred of Jews. "Pogroms means violent anti–Jewish riots" (The Aftermath of The
Holocaust) occurred in Poland. "The largest of these occurred in the town of Kielce in 1946 when Polish rioters killed at least 42 Jews and beat many
others" (The Aftermath of The Holocaust). An organization called "the Jewish Brigade Group, a Palestinian Jewish unit of the British army was
formed in late 1944. This organization that aimed to facilitate

seems to be an affluent community. The assets to the neighborhood would be the private schools, colleges, banks and various religious centers. As for
liabilities, none was present on our tour of the neighborhood. There aren't much large chain stores like K–Mart or Old Navy in Riverdale and the only
ones we saw were CVS and Eckerd. There aren't any fast food chain restaurants like McDonalds, Burger King, White Castle, etc. The shopping area
is composed of ice cream parlors, art galleries, wine stores, pet shops, flower shops, "Korean" stores for your Caribbean products, jewelry stores,
pizza shops, pharmacies, gift shops, etc. We saw just 2 laundromats in the area. It can be assumed that residents here do their own laundry at their
homes. We also saw a few dry cleaners on the main road. For recreation, Riverdale residents don't have much of a variety of activities. Nearby
Riverdale is Van Courtlandt Park. Located here is a Riverdale Equestrian Centre where people can go horseback riding. There are parks in the area
such as Spuyten Duyvil Playground and Riverdale Playground but in general, there are no recreational centers. Similar to recreational centers, there
wasn't a large number of clubs or associations. The only thing that would count as a club was a fitness center for women. The dominant religion

The Importance Of An Ethrog
The intrigue is building as buyers visit their stores and Rabbi's in search of the exact etrog which, quite possibly, has yet to be harvested. Or not!
Perhaps this year, you will be the lucky owner of an etrog that is quite perfect in every way. Sukkot beckons and the Citrus Medica marketplace is
preparing for its once yearly sale.
The thrill of the hunt is meaningful with American imports from Israel harvesting an impressive $1million per year. Individualsales average $40 per
fruit, but certain etrogim can fetch prices of several thousands and buyers know their investment is worth every penny. This is no lemon.
There are many other variables that make etrog shopping as exciting as the search for bread on the night before Pesach. Your... Show more content on

This was a good plan, but kosher trees cannot be grafted with other species and gradually the original variety was contaminated with a mix of lime or
lemon trees. You can hardly blame the local farmers who needed to make a living from trees that are problematic, fragile, prone to bug infestation and
unpredictable in fruit size and color.
Wholly unsuitable as a snack, the global marketplace for etrog is small. Few have tasted the Greek etrog liquor, Kitron, and sales in the perfume
industry, who use the peel of the etrog in certain fragrances, are as small as for chefs who occasionally use the peel in cakes. And still, etrog farmers
can stay in business because of the guaranteed sales every year for Sukkot.
Today, the largest producers of the elusive fruit is Italy, Greece, Morocco, Algeria and Yemen, but the biggest sales come from Eretz Yisroel where
superior growers of etrogim will likely use seeds from the etrog grown in Calabria, southern Italy. This is because Calabria is thought to be the home
of the orchard that supplied the messengers of Moshe Rabbeinu with his etrog while wandering in the desert all those years

How Divorce Is Affected By The Separation
Divorce is never an easy subject, and is hurtful despite the specific conditions. When going through a divorce it is very important to know the effects
that it can have on children. Divorce, in most cases, depending on the circumstance, will have a negative effect on children. Some of the results after a
divorce can leave a child in short or long term situations. Adults tend to recover and move on to a new relationship, but the effects on children can
be more long term ("Are"). More and more parents are getting divorces as time goes on, and more kids are being exposed to the situation. The
rising numbers of divorce in the United States has reached an all time high of about 1,250,00 divorces per year; furthermore, two out of every five
children will experience the divorce of their parents before they reach the age of 18 ("Long"). Many factors will determine how much your child
would be affected by the separation. A child 's awareness of divorce will be mainly determined by age and gender, as well as the child's history of
stress and the ability to cope with it. When the stressful events taking place begin to outweigh the child's protective factors, even the most resilient child
can develop problems. A growing list of information shows that certain factors will make some children more at risk for maladjustment than others
("Are"). The many factors include: the child's age, ability to cope, nature of the divorce, and the amount of loving support and understanding that they

Hasidic Judaism is a branch of Orthodox Judaism established in Eastern Europe during the 1800's that put spirituality and a connection with God
through mysticism at the forefront of its beliefs. In order to understand Hasidic Judaism, one must understand that Judaism is not only a religion; it is
also a philosophy and a way of life for the Jewish people. One of the oldest monotheistic religions, Judaism has evolved over the years since the time of
the founding fathers. Like any culture or religion, however, Jews have never been without conflict or disagreement amongst its people. Schisms
amongst Jews over long periods of time have led to a branching out of sects and Jewish institutions. What led to the separation of denominations within

Troubled with the increase in Cossack Pogroms and Jewish ethnic cleansings under Chmielnicki during the latter 17th century, Polish Jews were
threatened with near extinction. Faced with hardships and often persecution, many Jews lost faith in their study of Rabbinic Judaism due to its strict
religious confines and naturally gravitated toward mysticism in order to feel a closer relationship with God. Discontent with Rabbinic Judaism, many
Jewish mystics arose under the titles of "Baal Shem" or "Masters of the Name of God." However, unlike traditional Judaism, these mystics
increasingly preached values based on Kabbalah, including miracle work and divine intervention . From these early mystic teachings arose Hasidic
Judaism, brought into the spotlight by its leader Israel Ben Elizier, who sought to rid Judaism of strict punishment and reward in accordance to
Halakha . As the figurehead and clear leader of the Hasidic movement, Ben Elizer became known as the Baal Shem Tov. With his reputation as a
healer, the Baal Shem Tov was able to shape later Hasidic belief in divine leaders, or Rebbes, who served not only as religious leaders but also as
communal leaders with charismatic qualities. Despite never writing down his own beliefs , the Baal Shem Tov's ideas had a lasting effect on
Judaism. Eliezer's followers were able to spread his ideas after his death and caused a large scale Jewish spiritual movement. Focused on selflessness

My Life For A Small Group Program
It always seemed a bit clichГ© when people speak or write on specific 'events ' that change how they viewed themselves and their world. At the
surface, I often discard comments of people who see just one event changing their lives for (typically) better or worse. Events are not alone, but
are part of a system of chances and choices made by ourselves or others. These choices come together and form what we perceive as a singular event.
Despite this rather cold and analytical belief, I always secretly envied people who have these interventions in their everyday lives. The last major 'event
' for me occurred a number of years ago when I was robbed of two people who I loved and adored: my Grandparents. Since losing them, I have felt like

Something within me called to put on the tefillin. It is important to mention that the last time I put tefillin on was before my Grandparent 's deaths.

Pros And Cons Of Cesarean Sections
Cesarean sections, a surgical procedure to remove the fetus from the mother, have been performed for hundreds of years. Doctors have been turning to
cesareans, also known as c–sections, more than ever in last few years[1] to reduce risks that may occur during vaginal birth, such as the baby getting
stuck in the vaginal canal, and the tearing of the mother's' vagina. Although c–sections make the labor process easier, they need to be regulated to
reduce postpartum risks for the mother, recovering for months from the surgery, for the baby, asthma, and evolutionary risks, passing down of the gene
for narrow hips. The increase in c–sections has brought about issues such as mothers continually getting them after their first child, more women having

The World Health Organization (WHO) suggests that only 10%–15% of pregnancies require c–sections,[13] which is not seen in America.[14]
Following the WHO recommendations there may be stricter regulations passed in the future,[15] as well as re–training for many doctors. However,
future restrictions might make it more difficult for women who need c–sections to get them after doctors reach their limit of c–sections. Increasing
cesarean rates have led to another observation, evolutionary changes. The increase of c–sections have lead to an increase in women with narrower hips.
Since women are no longer restricted by delivering babies vaginally, natural selection cannot eliminate the gene for narrow hips, something that may
have resulted in maternal mortality. The increase of women with narrow hips may result in an increase in women whose bodies cannot not deliver
babies without assistance, thus resulting in more c–sections.[16] Eventually, if c–sections are not regulated, a vaginal delivery could become a rare

Religion : The Value Of Religion In My Life
Religion has never been a very big factor in my life. I celebrated Christmas and Easter, went to church for a christening once in awhile and was
dragged to a few services around wedding or funeral times but other than that my family never actively practiced too much. I personally have
never had any sort of religious service administered to me and have never had any religious model or figure that I would consider to be a follower
of. My grandparents are slightly more involved in their religious endeavors however they still do just about as little with their christianity as
possible. I have yet to discover a religion that I truly believe I would dedicate myself to however I understand the appeal as to why people find
their support through religion. When I first arrived to Suny Oneonta I felt slightly lost and yearned for a club or team or organization to give me a
group of people and a bigger sense of purpose than simply attending college, getting my degree and leaving. I chose to pursue greek life, I loved
literally everything that came along with being involved in the greek system, going to on campus events, having fundraisers, meeting all different
kinds of people that I never would have met otherwise. In a sense, the greek system on college campus gives me the sense of purpose that religion
provides for others. My fraternity however was founded by and originally intended only for jewish men. Zeta Beta Tau was the first national jewish

Love Is The Most Powerful Emotion
I choose to write my paper on what's love? Do you know what love is? Why do we ask what love is? Love can be many of things people have their
own opinions of love and what love actually is. Love is not only intimate.
As a person first falls in love at least a thousand brain parts start to light up. The brain release hormones, feelings and butterflies. Love is also loving a
person unconditionally no matter what. Love is the most powerful emotion a human being can experience. In today's society it's hard for people to
know what true love is. At times I ask myself why it is so hard to find love. I believe the word love is abused. When people use the word love it is used
as an expression of affection towards someone else. For example, I love ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When humans are going steady in receiving love and giving love, we don't ponder such philosophical questions. It's usually when something is
lacking or not the same we begin to contemplate what that thing really is. For, example nobody goes to subway and ask what's a sub. So, when we
ask what is love? We don't fell loved all the way or someone feel we don't love them all the way. So accord to the Chabad post the real question you
should be asking is "Am I loved?" or "Do I love?" These are the two main reasons people ask what's love. It's easier to ask what love is rather than
am I loved. When we the people are loved we tend to feel it in our guts. How does love really work though? In fact it's really not as complicated as
it sound, but the truth is our hearts take cues from our senses. Everything we feel, touch, smell, and hear is in touch with the universe and teaches
use about the universe. So some things we just don't need to question. Our sensory organs send messages to the brain, and our brain read the
messages and send the message to our heart. "So, if we see a loving smile, hear loving words, or feel a loving touch, the brain processes this
information and concludes, "Hey, we are being loved right now!"
Love can also be letting someone go. Love don't mean you own the person or mean that's your possession. For

Effects Of Depression On Young Adulthood Depression
As emerging adult there are many ting sin life that can hinder development of put it in to the wrong direction. Depression is the factors in emerging
adulthood that I wrote about in my paper in Depression Emerging Adults. Depression can be triggered emotionally by not having secure connections,
socially by isolation from others physically by not enough sleep, and cognitively by overthinking things. In this paper I will be reflecting on what I
could have done better in my paper and seeking the advice and recollection of those older than me on depression when they were younger. I am an
eighteen year old freshman in college at San Jose State University. I am majoring in pre–nursing and hoping to get into the nursing program in fall of
2016, and according to my five year track for nursing majors I will be graduating in spring of 2019. In my stage of development which is young
adulthood depression is a very prevalent problem which I seem to have contracted. Due to the fact that I have moved away from home to a new
place I am in jeopardy of not having secure connecting to people, and to feel loved. According to Maslow's hierarchy of happiness I am stopped
midway on my way to leading a happy life because I do not have sense of belonging in my environment. In order to not fall victim to depression in
middle and late adulthood a secure connection and feeling of belonging or love needs to occur. If not then feelings of loneliness and sadness in life will

Dreams and Their Roots
Dreams and Their Roots The Story of My Search There have been mornings where I have woken up with images of blood and death in my head. I
would wake up with sweat dripping down my temple and shaking. Not only are nightmares terrifying, but also they are considerably worse if they
are happening to you. When I woke up each day, I have asked myself: What is causing these nightmares? What are dreams anyway? From my prior
knowledge, I understood that dreams are just things that happen to you while you are sleeping. I had an idea that they were cause by something in
your brain but I did not exactly know what that was. I also knew that they affected a lot of people, but besides that, I did not know much. Since I
enjoy sleeping, I was curious to know what exactly dreams were. I also wanted to know why occasionally you would have nightmares and other
times you have remarkable, amusing dreams. Were there particular things I could avoid before bed that would stop the nightmares I had had? I
compiled a list of all the information I wanted to learn. From that list, I was able to shape my research question: What are dreams? Later, I was able
to form a solution: Dreams are caused by the course of stimulating brain circuits for joining more recent memories with older ones. My search took
about eight days, and it was an incredibly challenging experience for me. I began with a completely different topic. Once I started to search online, I
recognized I didn't like my topic.

Location: Chabad Center of Kendall Date visited: February 1, 2013 Interviewed person: Sect: Chabad Lubavitch
My site visit took place on the first of February 2013 I had the privilege of attending the candle lighting ceremony of the Judaism religion. To bring in
the day called Shabbat ( a sacred day to the Jewish community) at the Chabad Center of Kendall and Pincrest they lit candles, sang songs, and recited
words from the Torah that reminded them of the historical story of Shabbat. The Shabbat is the equivalence to the Christian tradition of the Sabbath,
where the religious community stops to rest and ponder on the holy one. This establishment is a well–respected and reputable Chabad Lubavitch
branch of the Jewish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The origin of this ceremony comes from a story of a woman named Sarah a legend or myth it seems and the wife of Abraham who would light a
candle on Friday which would stay light until the following week on Friday. This legend came to designate a day of rest to honor the Shabbat queen
as they call her and bring peace to the home. The actual gesture of lighting the candles though came from a more practical reason; they needed the
candles in order to see the traditional Shabbat food during dinner time; as well as the symbolic meeting of inviting God into their home. I unfortunately
did not get to stay for their Shabbat dinner they were hosting but from my research I know it must have been kosher. According to legend they had
picked Friday evening to start this tradition because that is when Sarah would replace her miracle candle with a new one and the story would begin
once again, a very literal and practical take on their myth. As we know legends exist to teach us a bigger life meaning and this one teaches us that
we must take a day to reflect upon ourselves and the lord while having a day of much needed rest. In many peoples' lives if it were not for this
ceremony many would over exert themselves or even forget to take a break within their weekly routines, a simple yet valuable lesson on life. The rabbi
mentioned how the congregation has most likely sinned throughout the week but that they could once

Personal Narrative: A Change In College
As with most college students, the first semester was a memorable and formative time for me. Not only do we have to adjust to a new format of
learning, we also must adjust to being away from our families for the first time, adjust to a new culture different from our high schools, make new
friends, along with the other stressors that come from life. However, we come out better on the other end. The greatest thing about college is that your
limits are pushed, you're exposed to new ideas and subjects, you gain skills, and you are constantly growing. Although it was hard, I feel prepared
and excited for the rest of my college experience. My attitude towards my classes was a drastic change from the beginning of the semester to the end.

The True Beauty Of Religion
Since the dawn of civilization, religious practices and rituals have greatly impacted various societies around the world. Religion is intertwined with
almost every aspect of life, ranging from culture, to politics and can even be found in basic social interactions. Regardless of how religious one may
be the impact it has on each individual's life is significant. The true beauty of religion is the fact that there is no set definition, allowing for each
region of the world to interpret and practice their beliefs in their own manner. Naming a newborn child is considered a significant rite of passage in
numerous religions all around the world. Many religions believe that providing the newborn with a proper name in the eyes of God is a ... Show more

Due to their strong faith, the Jewish community continually looks to uphold God's laws, attempting to bring holiness to each aspect of their daily lives.
It is important to note that there are sects within Judaism, stemming from cultural nuances and geographic location. This means that there are different
rituals and practices between the various sects within Judaism. Chabad is one of the world 's most known Chasidic movements and is well known for
its outreach in the community. It is the largest Jewish religious organization in the world. The Chabad movement represents an intellectual, spiritual
school of thought established and led by a dynasty of Hasidic Rabbis. Founded in the late eighteenth century, the Chabad movement originated in
Eastern Europe. Chabad Hasidic philosophy focuses on religious and spiritual concepts such as God, the soul, and the meaning of the Jewish
commandments. Though there are several sacred traditions and rites in Judaism, the baby rite is one of the most significant events of the religion. The
Chabad movement within Judaism has their own secular beliefs about the name rite of a newborn child. The Chabad follow the Midrash relates, which
are a collection of teachings from the Torah. The Midrash relates state that the Jewish people were freed from Egyptian rule under the merit of four
virtues. The first of these virtues dictates that they do not change their names. This is important

Controversies in Childbirth Essay
Controversies in Childbirth
The United States still has one of the highest infant mortality rates as reported by CIA World Fact Book "United States 6.06 per 1,000" (Field Listing,
2008 p.1), as compared to other high income countries who employ midwives as mainstream for low–risk pregnant women. Research shows that
midwife–attended births have fewer interventions, lower c–section rates, and offer more personal care for pregnant women. The problem with the
current form of obstetrical care in the United States is the uncritical acceptance of an unscientific method: the routine use of interventionist obstetrics
for healthy women with normal pregnancies in contrast to a midwifery model of care for pregnant women. Should the medical ... Show more content on

was arrested and jailed for 3 months; her only crime was that she "was a practicing midwife" (p.1022). That same year, Massachusetts became the
first state to outlaw midwives, and other states were soon to follow. As concluded in the book Remarks on the Employment of Females as
Practitioners in Midwifery "Both the character and education of women disqualify them for the office."(1820 p. 4). "Legalizing the midwife will work
a definite hardship to those physicians who have become well–trained in obstetrics for it will have a definite tendency to decrease their sphere of
influence." (Huntington, MD; 1913). Dr. Holms in 1920 stated, "Only the properly trained physician who has acquired surgical technique with
specialty training in obstetric physiology and pathology is competent to circumvent the many ills of childbirth." This was the beginning of the push for
the ending of midwifery (Dr. Neal Devitt's Thesis). The Committee on Maternal Welfare of the Philadelphia County Medical Society (1934)
"expressed concern over the rate of deaths of infants from birth injuries increased 62% from 1920 to 1929." This was happening concurrently to the
decline in midwife–attended births and the increase in surgical obstetrical births. As explained by a simple Freudian concept,

Jamaica Research Paper
I chose Jamaican Jews because there are few Jews living in Jamaica today but hundreds of years ago their were many Jews living there and many of
Jews that live in Canada today, have ancestors leading back to Jamaica. Today the estimated total population of Jews living in Jamaica is between
200–424,000. This essay will discuss the pull factors that influenced Jewish immigration to Jamaica, how they organized and the push factors that
caused them to leave from the time the first Jews came to Jamaica in 1494–1655 until today.
Before their were any Jews in Jamaica they were living all around the world in countries like Spain, Germany, Poland and France. They were forced to
leave these countries due to anti–semitism, war and Spanish Inquisition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One main push factor is that the jewish community in jamaica was never big. This is good and bad for a lot of reasons: Having a small jewish
community meant that everyone would be generally close with one another similar to a small, closely knit town. A small Jewish community also
meant that if you were looking to marry jewish that you wouldn't have as many options as you would in a bigger jewish community. Another push
factor is that when the jews first arrived in jamaica they had to conceal their identity and refer to themselves as "Portuguese" or "Spanish" and had to
practice their religion secretly before the british conquest of the island in 1655 but after that were allowed to practice judaism openly. This was also
vital to the Jews because that's exactly what they were fleeing from in their old countries. How could someone enjoy life if the things they loved to
do had to be done in secrecy or else they would be prosecuted, that's exactly what the jews were trying to find; a country that would allow them to be
who they are. The last minor push factor was that their weren't many shuls and this was a problem because depending on where you lived it could be
hard to get to one. This was later fixed when the Jewish population increased near the year

When Art and Religion Collide: My Name is Asher Lev
My Name is Asher Lev, by Chaim Potok, tells a story about a Hasid, young man driven by a great passion: drawing. The character Asher Lev is
presented within a Hasidic, Jewish community. These Hasidic communities are very conservative in many aspects; they care deeply and influence
their members in a lot of decisions they make in life. The Rebbes of the Jews is the man whose members of the community go to quite often for
advice, as Asher's uncle Yitzchok said to Aryeh, "People go to theRebbe because they have a cold" (30). The relevance of the Rebbe is shown in very
early stages of the book when, for example, Asher's father explains to him how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Asher's personality is very intelligently described in the beginning of the book, when he argues with his dad that "drawing is not foolishness" (12). He
also tends to talk back to his authorities, and often expresses his disagreements towards their ideas. This sort of behavior is very unusual for a boy his
age, coming from Hasid traditions. Asher is very curious, constantly asking questions, to the point where it can be of irritation to his father. He sees
the world differently, and he draws it as such. As a young boy, his mother asks Asher to "draw the world prettier", but he refused. He claims that the
world is not beautiful to him, and therefore he won't draw it as such. This almost rebel–like behavior isn't generally accepted in Asher's community. He
doesn't want to follow the standards that are set and that he's told he should follow, but he'd rather express his art as he sees it to be the most
representative.
Asher has a profound connection with art, even in early stages of his childhood. It is his way of interacting with the world around him, his form of
expression. Asher's way of seeing the world generally doesn't align with how his authorities want him to see it. At first, it is his mother who asks him
to draw the world "prettier", but he refuses, and later when he draws the pictures for the Mashpia. The drawings for the Mashpia are significant because
they represent how much art really meant to Asher. Drawing those pictures made him

Jewish Learning Essay
Jewish Learning
After I finished learning in Yeshiva, I was completely burnt out from Judaic studies. I just wanted to completely immerse myself in secular studies.
After all, I was trying to catch up after not learning English or math for five years. However, recently I realized how important it is to learn something in
Judaism every day to maintain a strong connection with God. As a result, I started incorporating some Jewish learning into my daily schedule.
In the beginning of this school year, I set up a chavrusa with my friend. We decided to learn sichos of the Lubavitcher Rebbe. The sichos are
discussions on that week's Torah portion. They usually combine the dialogue with Chassidic thought. For example, this week's parsha relates ... Show

Five Pillars Of Judaism
The Five Pillars of Islam Compared to the Core Beliefs of Judaism
Humans use religions to understand the world. Religions answer the questions: Why are humans on earth?, How did humans get to earth?, and Where
do humans go after life on earth?. Judaism and Islam are religions that have evolved and remained popular yet controversial in the modern world. Islam
and Judaism teach different beliefs and ideas, but there are common concepts found in both such as faith, charity, and fasting.
The first pillar of Islam, faith, is also found in Judaism. Jews and Muslims worship the same god, and only one god. Judaism and Islam are
monotheism religions. Muslims believe in one god because no other gods deserve their praise ("Five" 1989). Shahada is the Muslim saying for
faith to god. It says la ilaha illa Liah, which translates to "there is no god except God". Unlike Jews, Muslims believe that Muhammadun rasulu '
liah, which means "Muhammad is the messenger of God" ("Five" 1989). The Jewish do not worship other gods because of the Ten Commandments.
Specifically, the second commandment, which states "you shall have no gods before me" ("Ten" 2017). God told the Jews that they were to
disregard any of their previous gods and obey, love, and worship him. Islam and Judaism preach the concept of monotheism, as well as the concept of
charity and helping others. Charity is an important piece of Judaism and Islam. In the Islam religion, God owns the world and all objects in it. ("Five"
1989).

Schools Should Make Meals For Religious Freedoms
The School lunchroom, is it a place to observe religious freedoms? I think schools should make meals for religious restrictions available in the school
cafeteria, because all students need to feel that schools care about them, this will make them feel included without raising costs. This is being used in
other states and an example of that is California. The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Food, and Nutrition Service have instructions that have been
provided to everyone, but they leave it up to local governments to do as they see fit. The document is more directed towards the "Jewish schools,
institutions, and sponsors participating in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP)" (Food and Nutrition Service (FNS)) in California.

The visiting to a cemetery is very airy. The visiting of Montefiore Cemetery was odd, due to the stories of this particular cemetery. The well–known

Religion Acts As A Central Point For Many People
Religion acts as a central point for many people, in which they can relate to each other in different ways that nobody else can. People who share the
same/ similar religious beliefs often feel closer to one and other, in a way that otherwise couldn't be expressed. The connection that comes about in
these religious communities allows these given to form a closer connection and form a larger congregation. In some cases, the individuals in these
kinds of communities are very strict about their traditions, behaviors, actions, and in some extreme cases they do not accept any other way of life.
There are plenty of religious communities that are down to earth and open to the outside world, they accept challenges to their beliefs because they
believe that challenges make their religion stronger and tighter nit. No matter what the circumstance these types of communities have an encouraging
amount of strength, and typical only crumble/ fall apart from within. If someone from the religious group starts to question the core values and beliefs
of their community, they typical turn against the given individual. We see this represented in My Name is Asher Lev, written by Christian Potok, in
which he explores the life of a Hasidic Jew. When one person starts to question within the community, the entire community gets affected. For the better
of the community, this individual should be diminished from the community as a whole because it is tearing it apart from the inside out. This may

Judaism, Judaism And The Origin Of Judaism
Judaism Judaism originated a very long time ago, it is a part of the Bronze Age Polytheistic Ancient Semitic religions. The Jewish calendar goes back
more than 5000 years, most scholars date the beginning of the religion of the Israelites to the known founder, Abraham, whose life is generally dated
around 2000 to 1800 B.C.E. Abraham came to believe that the universe was the works of a single creator, and taught this to other believers. Therefore,
Judaism is the first recorded religion to advocate monotheism, meaning there is only one God. Both Christianity and Islam found some of their roots in
Judaism, about 2,000 years after Abraham, Jesus was born into Judaism. Then after Jesus, Muhammad could trace his ancestry back to Abraham.
Judaism has three essential parts the written Torah, the recognition ofIsrael, which are the descendants of Abraham, as uniquely holy people chosen
by God, and also it is a requirement that Israel lives in accordance with God's laws as it's said in the Torah. Judaism is an ethnic religion, this means
that it appeals mainly to one group of people living in one place. Roughly two–fifths of the world's 14 million Jews live in the United States and the
other two–fifths live in Israel. The way Judaism is distributed is different than other ethnic religions because it is practiced in countries other then its
place of origin. Around 70 A.D. the Romans forced the Jews to disperse all over the world, an action known as diaspora. Some other

Reflective Essay On Religion
Considering the notion that my religion plays a significant role in my culture and identity, I felt it was appropriate to focus my plunges on religion.
Interestingly, Judaism is considered to be a culture just as much as a religious doctrine, thus for those who identify as nonreligious, may still celebrate
the spiritual holidays for cultural reasons alone (Sue & Sue, 2016). Judaism is a monotheistic faith in which there is only one God. In the Jewish
faith, Jesus Christ is not referred to as the Messiah; followers believe that God has still yet to arrive (Differences Between, n.d.). Judaism puts little
emphasis on the afterlife because what is most important is what individuals do while still alive (Monaghan & Viereck, 2011). The Jewish lifestyle
includes following the commandments that are in the Torah, attending a synagogue for Shabbat, and for some divisions follow the Jewish law, known
as halacha (Monaghan & Viereck, 2011). Judaism emphasizes the value of atonement and asking for forgiveness for one's sins, especially on the
Jewish celebration, Yom Kippur (Sue & Sue, 2016). Other traditions include the coming of age ritual referred to as bat–mitzvah or bar mitzvah
(Religious Facts, 2006).
Observing Shabbat. For my first cultural plunge, I participated in a Shabbat services at the Bais Abraham Congregation. Prior to attending the
ceremony, I spoke with Rabbi Ben Greenfield for more information about the synagogue. I was informed that "Base Abe" is an Orthodox synagogue

Micah, A Settings: Prophet Research Form Of Isaiah
Prophet Research Form: Micah A.Settings
1.Political Situation – Micah prophesies during three kings of Judah; Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah., circa 740 BCE. Isaiah also prophesied in Judah
during this period. Micah did not belong to the Jerusalem elite and as an oracle of YHWH he spoke of Israel's religious sins. Micah viewed
Jerusalem as morally corrupt where the rulers abused the downtrodden (not much has changed). He proclaims the end of Jerusalem because of the open
market, (socialism was a nightmare in the future) from which Micah claimed all successful people (princes, judges, priests, and other prophets) were
corrupt. This county boy prophesied to the poor that it was the fault of the corrupt that YHWH would destroy Jerusalem. There appears to be enough
evidence that the Book contains oracles after his death, he remains another prophet proclaiming doom only to end with the redeeming salvation of the
people.
2.Economic and social situation – During his lifetime of prophecy the area experienced economic wealth and enduring peace. He came before
Josiah's "discovery" and implementation of the Scroll found in the temple. He came when there was peace and prosperity, as the forbearer of
catastrophic news. The temple was a house of idols and the people went to the "show" but did not follow YHWH. Micah made it a point to proclaim
that YHWH didn't want sacrifices, which contradicts the very edicts YHWH proclaimed. Micah wanted the people to return to a devotion to YHWH

  • 1. Hanukkah Hanukkah Many families during the month of December are busy shopping for Christmas presents, decorating a Christmas tree, and getting ready for Santa Clause. For those families celebrating Hanukkah this can conclude of preparing Latkes, singing Ma'Oz Tzur, and lighting the candles of the Menorah. Hanukkah or" Chanukah" is an eight day and eight nights Jewish holiday established on the 25 of Kislev (Macaulay).Hanukkah dates are different every year. For 2015 Hanukkah is celebrated on the 6th of December thru December 14th (Chabad). Hanukkah is a celebration of the Jews victory against the Greek and the oil that lasted eight days and eight nights in the Holy Temple (ifcg). The origin of Hanukkah comes from the heroic victory from the Greeks. While celebrating Hanukkah there are many traditions and customs.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "A light unto the nations" Isaiah 42:6 is said to be the Menorah mission statement and is the symbol of Israel nation (Jewishvirtuallibrary). After the Jews flock the Greek emperor Antiochus and the Greek from their land as the emperor forbidden the study of the Torah and tainted the Holy Temple with Greek symbols (Chabad). The Jews regained their Holy Temple on 25th of Kislev the Hebrew month consisting of November toward December (ibid). That same day the Jews went to light the candles of the temples Menorah only to realize that the Greek had polluted all of the oil with only an enough to provide one night of light from the candles (ibid). • 2. Mendel Shneerson Research Paper Holden Hirsch 6/28/15 MJH Rosen Menachem Mendel Schneerson Webster dictionary defines "Rebbe" as a rabbi or Jewish spiritual leader, esp. of the Hasidic sect. The Lubavitcher Rebbi, Rebbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, is the seventh leader of the Chabad Lubavitch movement, and is considered one of the most influential Jewish personalities in modern times. The Rebbe was born in 1992 in Nikolaev, Russia, to the renown kabbalist, Talmudic scholar, Rabbi Levi Yitzchak and Rebbetzin Chana Schneerson. in 1907, when Menachem Mendel was six years old, the Schneersons moved to Yekatrinislavv where Rabbi Levi Yitzchak was appointed Chief Rabbi of the city. At age 11, his tutor, Zalman Velenkin, had "no more to teach" to the young Rebbe. By age 13, he was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rabbi Moshe Weinberger of YU's Stone Beit Medrish Program agrees that the balance between traditional Judaic studies and spirituality is missing throughout a lot of the Modern Orthodox community. The success of the most influential Modern Orthodox Jewish youth organizations, NCSY and Bnei Akiva, are based upon characteristically Chassidic traditions, such as singing, dancing, and storytelling. Of Course, the Modern Orthodox movement stresses the importance of all singing, dancing, and storytelling, but not to the extent of the Chassidic movement. And I believe that the success of NCSY and Bnei Akiva are due to focus on the characteristically Chassidic traditions. Further, the culmination of the Rebbe's movement has led to what Rabbi Moshe Weinberger calls the "neo–chassidus" movement. This movement is popular among young Modern Jewish Orthodoxy that have grown up having difficulty connecting with their spirituality. "Neo–Chassidus" enables people to connect to God in their own unique way. Rather than learning Talmud, they will learn navi: rather than have an only Hebrew siddur, they will have opt for Hebrew and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Central to our understanding of "My name is Asher Lev" by Chaim Potok, is the dynamics of Asher's relationship with different minor characters involved. Each minor character such as Yudel Krinsky, Uncle Yitzchok, the Rebbe, and JacobKahn each help Asher in a different way allowing the reader to interpret the text more thoroughly. Their guidance to the antagonist creates a vivid image inside the reader's mind of the type of character and their importance to our understanding of the text. He represents the actions of the Russian government sending people it hates, the Jews, and the result of Asher's father tiresome work. As Asher learns to paint using more and more materials, Yudel Krinsky provides them to him. Even though Yudel knows the consequences of his actions of providing Asher with paint, he in a way repaying Asher back for Aryeh Lev's service to him. When Asher is at his own home, or at his Uncle's house, Yudel Krinsky provides an opening and expands Asher's artistic horizons and ability by supplying the materials. He positively mirrors Asher and tries to help Asher preserve his heritage as a Hasidic Jew whilst still supporting his individuality. Asher is able to talk to Yudel like a father, having open discussions with him, and on occasion helps him in the store and is able to feel comfortable. The store is described as warm by Asher in the latter part of the text when returning from Europe, and is appropriately addressed because it feels like Asher's second home, warm and cozy. Our mind conjures an image of Yudel after Chaim Potok's first technique of imagery is used to describe him. "He was short and thin, with large bulging eyes, a beaklike nose, and pinched wrinkled features. A dark stubble covered his face." He starts of being described in uncomplimentary terms. Asher perceives him as being peculiar and foreign. "You learned the store quickly," said Aryeh, "I have learned more difficult things than this store ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Jews During The 19th Century Jews have a fairly long history in Hungary. It is believed that the first Jews settled in Hungary in the 2nd century CE (World Jewish Congress). In 1251 there was a Jewish charter that put all the Jews under royal protection. After this, there was a large number of Jews that moved to Hungary which led to the development of historical communities. After the annexation of Hungary by the Ottoman Turks, Jews lived in peace, as long as they paid taxes. Along with the expulsion of the Ottoman Turks, the Jews disappeared from Hungary. In May 1944, deportation began. Some Jews escaped to Romania, neutral countries, or Budapest. Zionists helped Jews by providing fake passports, food, clothing, and places to hide. Unfortunately, Budapest did not always remain a safe haven for Hungarian Jews. The majority of these Jews were sent to ghettos. By January 1945, nearly 98,000 Jews from Budapest had died on marches to Austria. At the end of the war, about 565,000 Hungarian Jews perished (Jewish Virtual Library). Post–Holocaust, about 250 Jewish communities were reestablished, mainly in Budapest. The Hungarian government abolished their anti–Jewish legislation. In December 1948, the Jewish communities were recognized, guaranteed religious freedom, and were promised financial support. At this time, the Zionist movement started building schools and youth groups. Diplomatic relations with Israel were established in 1948, which led to a large group of Hungarian Jews immigrating to Israel. The rise of the Communist Party led to the closure of many Jewish institutions and the arrest of Jewish activists. Mass immigration to Israel was not allowed. About 20,000 Jews from Budapest were forced to leave. The year 1967 marked the end of diplomatic ties to Israel. (Jewish Virtual Library). • 5. The Purpose And Scripture Of Isaiah 40 : 27-31 Isaiah 40 Isaiah 40:27–31 is the passage of scripture that this essay will attempt to explain. Isaiah was a prophet to the people of Israel during the eighth century B.C. Isaiah had seen in his life four kings take the throne of Judah and he experienced the fall of the Northern kingdom, known as Israel. During Isaiah's life, the state of the Jewish people was not good. The Jewish people were consumed with idolatry and immortality. Isaiah, in one of the most historic passages in scripture, gives us great insight into how to live our lives with purpose and endurance. Isaiah 40:27–31 states, Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, "My way is hidden from the Lord, and my right is disregarded by my God"? 28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. 29 He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. 30 Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; 31 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. (ESV) Isaiah has already warned Israel of their coming judgement and knows that in their own works to save themselves they are growing tired. Matthew Henry in his commentary on this passage mentions, "it is bad to have evil thoughts rise in our minds, but worse to turn ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Aftermath Of The Holocaust Where would you go if your home was taken from you? What would you do if you haven't seen your home in five years? Millions were displaced. The survivors did not know where to go. Some didn't even know what to call home. The main points I am going to focus on are: what happened after the Holocaust ended, Rebuilding Jewish Life after the Holocaust, and the Homeland, Israel. World War II ended in the spring of 1945. "Germany unconditional surrender on May 8, 1945" (Jewish Life in Austria and Germany Since 1945, 47). An article called The Aftermath of The Holocaust, in the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum website states that: "in 1945, when Anglo–American and Soviet troops entered the concentration camps, they discovered piles of corpses, bones, and human ashes–testimony to Nazi mass murder. Soldiers also found thousands of Jewish and non–Jewish survivors suffering from starvation and disease. For survivors, the prospect of rebuilding their lives was daunting (The Aftermath of The Holocaust)." After the war was over, there was still a lot of hatred of Jews. "Pogroms means violent anti–Jewish riots" (The Aftermath of The Holocaust) occurred in Poland. "The largest of these occurred in the town of Kielce in 1946 when Polish rioters killed at least 42 Jews and beat many others" (The Aftermath of The Holocaust). There aren't much large chain stores like K–Mart or Old Navy in Riverdale and the only ones we saw were CVS and Eckerd. There aren't any fast food chain restaurants like McDonalds, Burger King, White Castle, etc. The shopping area is composed of ice cream parlors, art galleries, wine stores, pet shops, flower shops, "Korean" stores for your Caribbean products, jewelry stores, pizza shops, pharmacies, gift shops, etc. We saw just 2 laundromats in the area. It can be assumed that residents here do their own laundry at their homes. We also saw a few dry cleaners on the main road. For recreation, Riverdale residents don't have much of a variety of activities. Nearby Riverdale is Van Courtlandt Park. Located here is a Riverdale Equestrian Centre where people can go horseback riding. There are parks in the area such as Spuyten Duyvil Playground and Riverdale Playground but in general, there are no recreational centers. Similar to recreational centers, there wasn't a large number of clubs or associations. The only thing that would count as a club was a fitness center for women. The dominant religion ... Perhaps this year, you will be the lucky owner of an etrog that is quite perfect in every way. Sukkot beckons and the Citrus Medica marketplace is preparing for its once yearly sale. The thrill of the hunt is meaningful with American imports from Israel harvesting an impressive $1million per year. Individualsales average $40 per fruit, but certain etrogim can fetch prices of several thousands and buyers know their investment is worth every penny. This is no lemon. This was a good plan, but kosher trees cannot be grafted with other species and gradually the original variety was contaminated with a mix of lime or lemon trees. You can hardly blame the local farmers who needed to make a living from trees that are problematic, fragile, prone to bug infestation and unpredictable in fruit size and color. Wholly unsuitable as a snack, the global marketplace for etrog is small. Few have tasted the Greek etrog liquor, Kitron, and sales in the perfume industry, who use the peel of the etrog in certain fragrances, are as small as for chefs who occasionally use the peel in cakes. And still, etrog farmers can stay in business because of the guaranteed sales every year for Sukkot. Today, the largest producers of the elusive fruit is Italy, Greece, Morocco, Algeria and Yemen, but the biggest sales come from Eretz Yisroel where superior growers of etrogim will likely use seeds from the etrog grown in Calabria, southern Italy. This is because Calabria is thought to be the home of the orchard that supplied the messengers of Moshe Rabbeinu with his etrog while wandering in the desert all those years ... When going through a divorce it is very important to know the effects that it can have on children. Divorce, in most cases, depending on the circumstance, will have a negative effect on children. Some of the results after a divorce can leave a child in short or long term situations. Adults tend to recover and move on to a new relationship, but the effects on children can be more long term ("Are"). More and more parents are getting divorces as time goes on, and more kids are being exposed to the situation. The rising numbers of divorce in the United States has reached an all time high of about 1,250,00 divorces per year; furthermore, two out of every five children will experience the divorce of their parents before they reach the age of 18 ("Long"). Many factors will determine how much your child would be affected by the separation. A child 's awareness of divorce will be mainly determined by age and gender, as well as the child's history of stress and the ability to cope with it. When the stressful events taking place begin to outweigh the child's protective factors, even the most resilient child can develop problems. A growing list of information shows that certain factors will make some children more at risk for maladjustment than others ("Are"). The many factors include: the child's age, ability to cope, nature of the divorce, and the amount of loving support and understanding that they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hasidic Judaism Essay Hasidic Judaism is a branch of Orthodox Judaism established in Eastern Europe during the 1800's that put spirituality and a connection with God through mysticism at the forefront of its beliefs. In order to understand Hasidic Judaism, one must understand that Judaism is not only a religion; it is also a philosophy and a way of life for the Jewish people. One of the oldest monotheistic religions, Judaism has evolved over the years since the time of the founding fathers. Like any culture or religion, however, Jews have never been without conflict or disagreement amongst its people. Schisms amongst Jews over long periods of time have led to a branching out of sects and Jewish institutions. What led to the separation of denominations within ... Troubled with the increase in Cossack Pogroms and Jewish ethnic cleansings under Chmielnicki during the latter 17th century, Polish Jews were threatened with near extinction. Faced with hardships and often persecution, many Jews lost faith in their study of Rabbinic Judaism due to its strict religious confines and naturally gravitated toward mysticism in order to feel a closer relationship with God. Discontent with Rabbinic Judaism, many Jewish mystics arose under the titles of "Baal Shem" or "Masters of the Name of God." However, unlike traditional Judaism, these mystics increasingly preached values based on Kabbalah, including miracle work and divine intervention . From these early mystic teachings arose Hasidic Judaism, brought into the spotlight by its leader Israel Ben Elizier, who sought to rid Judaism of strict punishment and reward in accordance to Halakha . As the figurehead and clear leader of the Hasidic movement, Ben Elizer became known as the Baal Shem Tov. With his reputation as a healer, the Baal Shem Tov was able to shape later Hasidic belief in divine leaders, or Rebbes, who served not only as religious leaders but also as communal leaders with charismatic qualities. Despite never writing down his own beliefs , the Baal Shem Tov's ideas had a lasting effect on Judaism. Eliezer's followers were able to spread his ideas after his death and caused a large scale Jewish spiritual movement. Focused on selflessness and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. My Life For A Small Group Program It always seemed a bit clichГ© when people speak or write on specific 'events ' that change how they viewed themselves and their world. At the surface, I often discard comments of people who see just one event changing their lives for (typically) better or worse. Events are not alone, but are part of a system of chances and choices made by ourselves or others. These choices come together and form what we perceive as a singular event. Despite this rather cold and analytical belief, I always secretly envied people who have these interventions in their everyday lives. Doctors have been turning to cesareans, also known as c–sections, more than ever in last few years[1] to reduce risks that may occur during vaginal birth, such as the baby getting stuck in the vaginal canal, and the tearing of the mother's' vagina. Although c–sections make the labor process easier, they need to be regulated to reduce postpartum risks for the mother, recovering for months from the surgery, for the baby, asthma, and evolutionary risks, passing down of the gene for narrow hips. I would wake up with sweat dripping down my temple and shaking. Not only are nightmares terrifying, but also they are considerably worse if they are happening to you. When I woke up each day, I have asked myself: What is causing these nightmares? What are dreams anyway? From my prior knowledge, I understood that dreams are just things that happen to you while you are sleeping. I had an idea that they were cause by something in your brain but I did not exactly know what that was. I also knew that they affected a lot of people, but besides that, I did not know much. Since I enjoy sleeping, I was curious to know what exactly dreams were. I also wanted to know why occasionally you would have nightmares and other times you have remarkable, amusing dreams. Were there particular things I could avoid before bed that would stop the nightmares I had had? I compiled a list of all the information I wanted to learn. From that list, I was able to shape my research question: What are dreams? Later, I was able to form a solution: Dreams are caused by the course of stimulating brain circuits for joining more recent memories with older ones. The origin of this ceremony comes from a story of a woman named Sarah a legend or myth it seems and the wife of Abraham who would light a candle on Friday which would stay light until the following week on Friday. This legend came to designate a day of rest to honor the Shabbat queen as they call her and bring peace to the home. The actual gesture of lighting the candles though came from a more practical reason; they needed the candles in order to see the traditional Shabbat food during dinner time; as well as the symbolic meeting of inviting God into their home. I unfortunately did not get to stay for their Shabbat dinner they were hosting but from my research I know it must have been kosher. According to legend they had picked Friday evening to start this tradition because that is when Sarah would replace her miracle candle with a new one and the story would begin once again, a very literal and practical take on their myth. As we know legends exist to teach us a bigger life meaning and this one teaches us that we must take a day to reflect upon ourselves and the lord while having a day of much needed rest. Asher is very curious, constantly asking questions, to the point where it can be of irritation to his father. He sees the world differently, and he draws it as such. As a young boy, his mother asks Asher to "draw the world prettier", but he refused. He claims that the world is not beautiful to him, and therefore he won't draw it as such. He doesn't want to follow the standards that are set and that he's told he should follow, but he'd rather express his art as he sees it to be the most representative. • 33. Five Pillars Of Judaism The Five Pillars of Islam Compared to the Core Beliefs of Judaism Humans use religions to understand the world. Religions answer the questions: Why are humans on earth?, How did humans get to earth?, and Where do humans go after life on earth?. Judaism and Islam are religions that have evolved and remained popular yet controversial in the modern world. Islam and Judaism teach different beliefs and ideas, but there are common concepts found in both such as faith, charity, and fasting. The first pillar of Islam, faith, is also found in Judaism. Jews and Muslims worship the same god, and only one god. Judaism and Islam are monotheism religions. Muslims believe in one god because no other gods deserve their praise ("Five" 1989). Shahada is the Muslim saying for faith to god. It says la ilaha illa Liah, which translates to "there is no god except God". Unlike Jews, Muslims believe that Muhammadun rasulu ' liah, which means "Muhammad is the messenger of God" ("Five" 1989). The Jewish do not worship other gods because of the Ten Commandments. Specifically, the second commandment, which states "you shall have no gods before me" ("Ten" 2017). God told the Jews that they were to disregard any of their previous gods and obey, love, and worship him. Islam and Judaism preach the concept of monotheism, as well as the concept of charity and helping others. Charity is an important piece of Judaism and Islam. In the Islam religion, God owns the world and all objects in it. ("Five" 1989). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Schools Should Make Meals For Religious Freedoms The School lunchroom, is it a place to observe religious freedoms? I think schools should make meals for religious restrictions available in the school cafeteria, because all students need to feel that schools care about them, this will make them feel included without raising costs. This is being used in other states and an example of that is California. The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Food, and Nutrition Service have instructions that have been provided to everyone, but they leave it up to local governments to do as they see fit. The document is more directed towards the "Jewish schools, institutions, and sponsors participating in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP)" (Food and Nutrition Service (FNS)) in California. They got together with a celebrity chef named Jamie Oliver and his crew. They ended up having a tour at Hoover High School in City Heights. Their Tour ended with them learning about the Muslim tradition of Halal and getting a demonstration of how it is prepared by some Muslim parents and students, "When we got here we actually had a couple of ladies who came on board and they informed us what Halal was and the guidelines they needed to follow"(Burks Megan). They came there with no understanding of what Halal even was "I didn 't even know what Halal was or what their guidelines particularly pertain to,"(Burks Megan). People may try to argue that nobody wants it to change but that is untrue "I want to see a change in the schools," Momentum team member Shukri Abdi said. "I want to see my son (offered) a different style of food than what I saw"(Burks Morgan). Some may also say why not just pack your own lunch rather than getting the lunch provided by the school, only one problem with that and that is income. Say you're a low income family, you qualify for the free lunch program but the only problem is that you have a religion that restricts what you can eat depending on how it's made. "I feel like the free and reduced lunch is a waste, because you 're providing me with resources to get lunch ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Montefiore Cemetery Essay The visiting to a cemetery is very airy. The visiting of Montefiore Cemetery was odd, due to the stories of this particular cemetery. The well–known story about Lubavitcher Rebbe Jewish Rabbi being buried there and of how the houses around the cemetery were being bought up by some Jewish families, these were reasons for having interest in this particular cemetery. Wishing there were an undertaker around who would have more of an historical history to tell about Montefiore Cemetery. This cemetery stretches for fifteen blocks in width, and has a length of two Manhattan blocks. Due to the length of the cemetery, it has been broken–up into three different names, which separates the cemetery. They are, Old Springfield Cemetery, Springfield Cemetery, and Montefiore Cemetery. On the grounds of Montefiore Cemetery, stands Ohel Chabad Lubavitch a building built for Lubatvicher Rebbe. This building over looks all others, a brown stone church like structure that resembles the brick houses in Brownsville, Brooklyn that has a worth value in the millions. • 37. Religion Acts As A Central Point For Many People Religion acts as a central point for many people, in which they can relate to each other in different ways that nobody else can. People who share the same/ similar religious beliefs often feel closer to one and other, in a way that otherwise couldn't be expressed. The connection that comes about in these religious communities allows these given to form a closer connection and form a larger congregation. In some cases, the individuals in these kinds of communities are very strict about their traditions, behaviors, actions, and in some extreme cases they do not accept any other way of life. There are plenty of religious communities that are down to earth and open to the outside world, they accept challenges to their beliefs because they believe that challenges make their religion stronger and tighter nit. No matter what the circumstance these types of communities have an encouraging amount of strength, and typical only crumble/ fall apart from within. If someone from the religious group starts to question the core values and beliefs of their community, they typical turn against the given individual. We see this represented in My Name is Asher Lev, written by Christian Potok, in which he explores the life of a Hasidic Jew. When one person starts to question within the community, the entire community gets affected. For the better of the community, this individual should be diminished from the community as a whole because it is tearing it apart from the inside out. This may ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Judaism, Judaism And The Origin Of Judaism Judaism Judaism originated a very long time ago, it is a part of the Bronze Age Polytheistic Ancient Semitic religions. The Jewish calendar goes back more than 5000 years, most scholars date the beginning of the religion of the Israelites to the known founder, Abraham, whose life is generally dated around 2000 to 1800 B.C.E. Abraham came to believe that the universe was the works of a single creator, and taught this to other believers. Therefore, Judaism is the first recorded religion to advocate monotheism, meaning there is only one God. Both Christianity and Islam found some of their roots in Judaism, about 2,000 years after Abraham, Jesus was born into Judaism. Then after Jesus, Muhammad could trace his ancestry back to Abraham. Judaism has three essential parts the written Torah, the recognition ofIsrael, which are the descendants of Abraham, as uniquely holy people chosen by God, and also it is a requirement that Israel lives in accordance with God's laws as it's said in the Torah. Judaism is an ethnic religion, this means that it appeals mainly to one group of people living in one place. Roughly two–fifths of the world's 14 million Jews live in the United States and the other two–fifths live in Israel. The way Judaism is distributed is different than other ethnic religions because it is practiced in countries other then its place of origin. Around 70 A.D. the Romans forced the Jews to disperse all over the world, an action known as diaspora. Some other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Reflective Essay On Religion Considering the notion that my religion plays a significant role in my culture and identity, I felt it was appropriate to focus my plunges on religion. Interestingly, Judaism is considered to be a culture just as much as a religious doctrine, thus for those who identify as nonreligious, may still celebrate the spiritual holidays for cultural reasons alone (Sue & Sue, 2016). Judaism is a monotheistic faith in which there is only one God. In the Jewish faith, Jesus Christ is not referred to as the Messiah; followers believe that God has still yet to arrive (Differences Between, n.d.). Judaism puts little emphasis on the afterlife because what is most important is what individuals do while still alive (Monaghan & Viereck, 2011). The Jewish lifestyle includes following the commandments that are in the Torah, attending a synagogue for Shabbat, and for some divisions follow the Jewish law, known as halacha (Monaghan & Viereck, 2011). Judaism emphasizes the value of atonement and asking for forgiveness for one's sins, especially on the Jewish celebration, Yom Kippur (Sue & Sue, 2016). Other traditions include the coming of age ritual referred to as bat–mitzvah or bar mitzvah (Religious Facts, 2006). Observing Shabbat. For my first cultural plunge, I participated in a Shabbat services at the Bais Abraham Congregation. Prior to attending the ceremony, I spoke with Rabbi Ben Greenfield for more information about the synagogue. I was informed that "Base Abe" is an Orthodox synagogue ... • 40. Micah, A Settings: Prophet Research Form Of Isaiah Prophet Research Form: Micah A.Settings 1.Political Situation – Micah prophesies during three kings of Judah; Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah., circa 740 BCE. Isaiah also prophesied in Judah during this period. Micah did not belong to the Jerusalem elite and as an oracle of YHWH he spoke of Israel's religious sins. Micah viewed Jerusalem as morally corrupt where the rulers abused the downtrodden (not much has changed). He proclaims the end of Jerusalem because of the open market, (socialism was a nightmare in the future) from which Micah claimed all successful people (princes, judges, priests, and other prophets) were corrupt. This county boy prophesied to the poor that it was the fault of the corrupt that YHWH would destroy Jerusalem. There appears to be enough evidence that the Book contains oracles after his death, he remains another prophet proclaiming doom only to end with the redeeming salvation of the people. 2.Economic and social situation – During his lifetime of prophecy the area experienced economic wealth and enduring peace. He came before Josiah's "discovery" and implementation of the Scroll found in the temple. He came when there was peace and prosperity, as the forbearer of catastrophic news. The temple was a house of idols and the people went to the "show" but did not follow YHWH. Micah made it a point to proclaim that YHWH didn't want sacrifices, which contradicts the very edicts YHWH proclaimed. Micah wanted the people to return to a devotion to YHWH ...
