Law and Order Injustice
America focuses on keeping the rich streets clean and the poor streets dirty with a sense of people of color will be placed in poor dangerous
neighborhoods with violence and drugs. The news reporters every day file cases of police officers using their power to control and abuse the law
by hurting citizens by their image of clothing and color of their skin. In "A Brother's Murder" a journalist talks about his experience living in a
poor neighborhood and how his brother tragically died in a city of crime. No it does not mean it is always out in the public there are cases where
officers hide what they did and get away with it. The laws support the officers in their favor in trails depending on the state and how strong the

Scott is angry at the situation but it is obvious he is only accusing Hispanics instead other immigrants for example Canadians. Hispanics are already
hiding from the law and they travel many times when they hear about the law enforcement going to theirs or area they're homes. Richard Raynor makes
an opposite view on the issue in immigration by stating:
The message here is a sensible one: beef up the Border Patrol; deport criminals; don't break up families; target labor–enforcement at bad–guy
sweatshop employers and make an effort to deal with temporary visa overstays, who surprisingly make up as much as 50 percent of all illegals;
supply Federal assistance to heavily impacted areas such as Los Angeles, and forget the idea of a national verification system or an identification card.
(508–509). Some may say the solution is use more law enforcement but others say it is best to let them come. The decision is tough but if the law
enforcement made wiser choses this situation wouldn't be so tragic.
African American's are most likely to be imprisoned without a good trail and shot by law informant. Police officers do violent beatings and kill many
black people without giving any warning. In "Platform for Justice" the article talks about Oscar Grant and they state, "Despite cameras catching a

Capital Punishment : A Way Of Maintaining Law And Order
Capital punishment is one of the most controversial topics, especially in today's democratic world. Different people take different approaches to the
matter and so do different countries as some still do implement capital punishment as a way of maintaining law and order in the societies. The
different approaches into the matter are highly influenced by several societal divisions such as a religious affiliation, political affiliation, the level of
education and the age of a person. However, every person has got his or her approach to the matter. In order to analyze the approaches of different
people then, it is necessary to take a survey that will focus on several questions related to the approach on the death penalty.
The questions include:
Do you think death penalties are ethical?
Do you think the death penalty is a good approach to stop crime?
Do you think that the death penalty is appropriate for most crimes involving intentional and premeditated murder?
For which crimes do you think that the death penalty must implement?
Do you think the death penalty now or in the past has been implemented in any discriminatory manner?
Why do you think the amnesty international opposes the death penalty?
Do you think through the opposition of the death penalty the human activists deny the victims of violent crime their right?
Do you think the death penalty is used by governments or legal institutions to suppress uncooperative voices?

Essay On Law And Order In Lord Of The Flies
Imagine yourself in a world with no adults, no political system, no rules nor order. It would just be you and all the other teens in your town. Would
you just create your own society or little group? Or would you work with everyone else in your town to create a stabilized government and
society? People would go off and do harmful things with their savage side instead of listening to someone else who is the same age as them. Just
like in the era of development of civilization people were stranded with their own little groups killing animals and possibly killing others if attacked.
However, there came a time where they all gathered to create a stabilized and working society for their benefit to survive and prosper. The key to a
stabilized society is law and order. Law and order prevents us from becoming savages and showing violent nature. This is what William Golding
conveys in his book Lord of the Flies. His novel demonstrates that law and order keeps us from becoming the cruel and dark beings we sometimes
wish to be. Power and conquest seems to always go against law and order. Law and order helps us to be stabilized, be civilized, prosper and be in
harmony for our own good no matter how much we may hate laws or rules. In the novel Ralph is the representation of order (with the conch) and our
human nature. In the first chapter of the story Golding makes it noticeable that the conch is an object of power and law. Ralph is the first one to notice
the conch when speaking to

Criminal Minds, NCIS, And Law And Order
With an innumerable amount of scientific television shows being broadcast each day on various networks it is important to analyze the quality of
the science presented in each show. The ability to critically examine all scientific plots is impossible considering the sheer number of active shows
but the sentiment is definitely profound; television shows engage millions of viewers each day with their fast paced plots but often glaze over
legitimate scientific processes for the sake of keeping viewers interested, or simply misrepresent information to make their storyline more fluid. Crime
shows, arguably one of the more popular genres of shows, encompass both riveting plot devices as well as mystery and complexity through the use of
science. Crime Scene Investigation (CSI), Criminal Minds, NCIS, and Law and Order all perfectly illustrate this formula––each of these shows allows
viewers to go on criminal investigations with the main characters and take glimpses of the behind–the–scenes work that actually help to convict
criminals. Processes like DNA and fingerprint recognition, clothing fiber identification, and mortuary science pique the interests of many viewers
(while also seeming to ground the show itself in reality). Unfortunately, some shows have stretched the truth of scientific processes by collecting
evidence incorrectly or even getting database matches far too fast (in addition to other mistakes). In order to catch these mistakes first hand, I opted to

Assess the Significance of Developments in Policing in...
Assess the significance of developments in policing in influencing the effectiveness of law and order in the period 1830 – 1965.
There were many significant developments in policing which aided the effectiveness of law enforcement in Britain from the period of 1830 to 1965.
Reasons as to why developments were necessary in this period; firstly between the years 1829 – 1850 there was a steady increase in crime[1]. Secondly
as time progressed criminals came up with ways to beat the policing system, therefore it was necessary for policing in Britain to develop, in order to
keep on top of crime. Development factors such as; the establishment of the Metropolitan Police Force, passing of key legislation were key

Further legislation such as the Prison Act 1898, reasserted the idea of reformation as the main role in prison regimes. This led to a dilution of the
separate system, the abolition of hard labour, and established the idea that prison labour should be productive.
The argument of the reformation of prisons brought attention to young offenders. Transportation itself had ended in 1852, as reformists viewed it as a
lenient punishment, however under the Reformation School Acts (1854); courts were allowed to send children for transportation[15] setting double
standards within society, whilst historians argue that there were little, if any boundaries between children and adults[16]. The Children's Act of 1908,
established juvenile courts[17] and also banned prison sentences to those less than 14 years of age. This was significant in influencing effective law
enforcement, as children were seen with sympathy and compassion. The legislation also showed that boundaries were being set for adults and children.
During this period there was a general feeling that children were committing crime due to inadequate discipline and education at home, thus the Borstal
System was introduced[18]. The main elements in the borstal programs included; education, regular work, vocational training, and group counselling,

Law And Order: Special Victims Unit
The opening credits of a television show can convey significant meaning concerning what topics and themes the show will be discussing. While it's
true that some opening credits, for example One Tree Hill and Gossip Girl, are superficial and paired with nothing but a catchy song, some also offer
potential insight. After examining the introduction for Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, it's clear this show'sopening credits falls under the later
category. Law and Order: Special Victims Unit deals with sexual crimes, which is made evident in the opening, but also focuses on New York City law
enforcements' role in preventing these crimes. Through the us of color and pairing inspiring city shots with pictures symbolizing death and criminal
activity, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While most of the credits are in black and white, certain images in color stand out. For example, at the beginning and end strategically placed
images of New York buildings are seen in color, as if to highlight all the darkness and corruption contained inside such a beautiful city. Moreover,
although consistently in black and white, it's evident the child object images flash from a darker version to a lighter version. This is significant
because historically white is a color that symbolizes purity and innocence. With this color change, Law and Order: Special Victims Unit is further
emphasizing the horrible and disturbing corruption that results from crimes committed against children. In another instance of color change, there is
a moment where a woman's legs are shown in a slightly tinted brown color with the words "Molestation" beginning to appear. However, the shot
changes to a group of prostitutes, and while the world "Molestation" continues to run cross the screen, the lettering and image are now in black and
white. Since the image switches from a female victim in color to a black and white shot of a group of women participating in an illegal activity, the
change appears to symbolize loss of light and thus the rise of darkness and corruption. Hence, color is used effectively to create a dark versus light
tone and reflect themes of

Law And Order In Lord Of The Flies
In the majority of countries in the world, it is obvious that they have some sort of law and order in each and every one of their civilizations. Such
law and order may include some sort of democracy or monarchy that governs the country, and ensures that there is some sort of order that makes sure
that there aren't any problems that occur. But in the story "Lord of the Flies," by William Golding, we are able to experience that lack of any sort of
democracy or any other government, but there is a definite overpowering sense of anarchy that inevitably led to the death of a few of their colleagues.
Rewinding to the beginning of their stranding though, they were able to lay down numerous laws that would assist in keeping them together and

because he had news about the beast, but he didn't want that information leaking out to his followers, so he killed him. "The rock struck Piggy a
glancing blow from chin to knee. Piggy fell forty feet and landed on his back across the square red rock in the sea," (Pg. 180). Piggy's gruesome death

What Is The Theme Of Law And Order In Lord Of The Flies
William Goldings 'Lord of the Flies' represents the theme of Law and order throughout the novel. During the novel the group of the boys are stuck on
an island and some turn into savages. Golding uses symbolism, characters and actions to represent law and order.
The conch was the first thing to gather all the boys on the island, for a meeting. The boys then discussed how things should be done and they elect
to vote for a chief. "Him with the shell." Ralph, the fair haired, good looking boy is voted as chief. But he isn't voted chief because of his age,
leadership skills or any form of democracy. Ralph was voted in as chief because he was the one who blew the conch. The conch that would call the
boys to sort out and discuss all the problems that they would have over the months that the boys would spend on the island. During these meetings, the
conch didn't just call them, the conch allowed the holder to speak. To express their thoughts and ideas to all the other boys. But as soon as fear and
bloodthirst took over their minds, the conch didn't mean anything to them and once this happened there was no way of getting them back. Soon Jack,
Ralphs hunter, turned too and decided to start his own group. "Who'll join my tribe and have fun?" Boy by boy, more kids started to join Jacks tribe.
Eventually the conch smashes and all breaks loose on the island. The conch represented law and order on the island and once the conch was destroyed,
Ralph's rules went with it.

Law And Order In Lord Of The Flies Quote Analysis
The most important thing in the world is law and order. If society has no order then, it will hit rock bottom. The story takes place in the midst of a
war when a plane gets shot down on a stranded island. The inhabitants that survived from the crash turn from are a group of proper British boys and
the story is about how they turn into hardened savages and murderers. In the novel, Lord Of The Flies by William Golding, the author writes about how
the fear of the unknown and the absence of law and order can change someone into a savage.
Throughout the novel, Golding claims that without law and order society will fall and that the fear of the unknown is a very powerful motivator. The
situations like those is seen in this novel Lord of the Flies. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His lesson is still important to this day because he is right. Some people still lack a sense of law and order in this world, Similar to the Lord of the
Flies a group of 18–year–old boys in "Manchester [bullied] a 17–year–old boy with autism...the boys would pick on him by doing things such as
[pelting him with] dog mess, [having] his limbs scratched with sandpaper and [is] forced to drink vodka and gin until he passed out." This event
specifically relates to Piggy being tormented by the other boys because of his appearance and disability. The boys on the island have no sense of
order to torment a kid who is not the same as everyone else. This is the kind of society Golding is trying to portray in Lord of the Flies. He is
basically saying if you are 'different' then you are not allowed into a society. Furthermore, Golding's lesson is also shown by being related to Simon
death. The teenagers used a "mobile phone...[to record which was]...played in court, the boy could be heard begging...please don't hurt me." This event
is specifically related to Simon death because he was also faintly crying for the boys to stop hitting him and they didn't listen to him because their
savagery clouded

The Problem Of Law And Order In America
Throughout the recent election, there was one phrase that we heard quite a bit from President Trump. "Law and Order." At face value, that phrase
did a lot of good for President Trump, anyone would agree that Law and Order is a very popular idea, but what people do not realize are the facts
behind that phrase and until beginning to read this book I am not sure I did either. 1 of 30 Americans and 1 of 11 African Americans are
incarcerated. Again, the idea of Law and Order is one that we can all agree on, however, I am beginning to question if America is avoiding the larger
problem of systemic poverty throughout generations. Upon further research, I found that close to 60 percent of people in prison are people of color.
My question is not if

Law & Order: SVU, Episode 'Doubt'
As a juror for the case of Myra Denning v. Ron Polikoff, I consider it my responsibility to make sure that I chose a fair verdict for Mr. Polikoff
based upon the evidence presented during this trial. Therefore, for one count of Rape in the First degree, I chose the verdict of not guilty for the
defendant, Mr. Ron Polikoff for the following reasons. On the night of the presumed rape, Ron Polikoff, a Professor at City Arts College got in
contact with one of his Grad students, Myra Denning, in regards to discussing her final portfolio. Mr. Polikoff had every intention of setting up a time
and place to meet with Ms. Denning, but was soon forced to change that because Ms. Denning showed up at his doorstep late at night wearing a sexy,

She has actually done this many times before. Also, through the help of Jenny, Ron's college student girlfriend (who also happens to be Myra's
roommate), a very long list of people Myra ever had a sexual encounter with came into light. This is a huge part of the case as to why I believe Ron
is innocent because it just goes to show how promiscuous Myra is and that she has a very difficult time keeping her legs closed and saying no. I
think it's safe to say that Ms. Denning is not the most reliable or trustworthy person in this type of matter. To further prove my point, she filed a
sexual assault complaint against Det. Elliot Stabler because she assumed he tried to "cop a feel", when in reality all he did was save Ms. Denning
from falling down the stairs because she had just fainted. Ms. Denning also has a history of lying which make it difficult to trust someone especially
when they lie about facts of the case. For example, when Detective Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler questioned her if she had and recent sexual
intercourse, she firmly said no. They soon found out that Myra Denning was not only lying about that but also about the fact that she has a boyfriend.
Lastly, Ms. Denning used her ailing grandmother as an excuse to get out a speeding ticket when the cops pulled her over. However, a short while late
it was discovered that her grandmother was in n such urgency. Since the very beginning Mr. Polikoff has cooperated which less can be said about Ms.

The, Law And Order Essay
The episode "Tango" in the television show "Law and Order" tells a story of an investigation regarding a murder of a teenage girl, including the arrest
and prosecution of two different offenders within the criminal justice system. The story line and the characters embody different assumptions and
values within their roles and the crime. There are many different restorative assumptions and values that are could have played a vital role in healing
and resolution, but were unfortunately missing from the storyline. The portrayal of the criminal justice system that is represented in "Tango" does have
an impact on viewer's faith and perspective of the system and its effectiveness. These arguments are active in an analysis of the "Law and Order"
episode "Tango" through a restorative justice lens.
Assumptions and Values The assumptions and values that are identifiable in "Tango" are evident in regards to the roles within the crime, and the
impact the crime had on many different parties. Understanding these parties and aspects of the story that embody different assumptions are essential to
having an informed, restorative perspective. The first party that is in focus is the identity of the victim. In this story, the victim is a high school girl,
Anne–Marie. The character of Anne–Marie incorporates many characteristics that make her vulnerable, including that she is not from New York where

The Themes of Law and Order in 'Oresteia'
The Themes of the Oresteia The play termed the Oresteia is actually a trilogy that is built around the family of Agamemnon. Traditionally, one of
the primary themes of the three plays is a movement from a traditional belief in revenge for wrongs to one of justice and the rule of law. The
purpose of this paper is to discuss all three of the plays and look at how justice is conceived in each. Agamemnon The first play, Agamemnon, tells
about the return of the King from the Trojan wars and how his wife has chosen to react to the reunion. Clytemnestra is the queen who was angered by
the fact that Agamemnon was away for a decade and that the King sacrificed their daughter Iphigenia to one of the gods. In one part of the play, the
Chorus of Elders chants "Zeus who hath paved a way for human thought, by ordaining this firm law 'He who learns, suffers'" (Aeschylus, trans. 1893,
1.176–179) which speaks to the law that was formed by the words. The people of Greece followed the law that a person who commits a crime,
whether that be a recognized law or one that the punisher deemed appropriate, is subject to some form of punishment. In Agamemnon's case,
Clytemnestra believed that his actions justified his death. She did not believe that it was murder because his actions justified her actions. She is
advised against injuring the King and also believes that since he has returned from the Troy with a concubine, Cassandra, that Cassandra must be killed
also. The play ends with

Nonverbal and Symbolic Behavior in a 'Law and Order' Episode
Nonverbal and symbolic behavior: Law and Order episode The syndicated television drama Law and Order often focuses upon issues of class and
crime in New York City. The show is neatly segmented between the 'law' and the 'order' portions, the first of which depict blue

the second white–collar prosecutors. Both white–collar and blue–collar criminals are featured on the show. The beginning of the episode entitled "The
pursuit of happiness" depicted the rumpled detectives staring at a crime scene. Although tired, their loose shoulders indicated they were somewhat
relaxed and accustomed to seeing a dead body. The victim was dressed in a suit and found dead in his office. The detectives seemed familiar and
friendly with one another as the crime scene forensic investigators gathered evidence. They kept their hands in their pockets, however, and did not
physically become involved with the dead man, as if wanting to keep emotional distance from him. It is also possible that as a middle–aged man, he
was not a particularly sympathetic victim, unlike a child. When questioning the murdered man's wife, the detectives seemed sympathetic in terms of
their expressions. They appeared concerned and their hardened expressions softened. The woman was shown sobbing and had bloodshot eyes. Tears
were rolling down her face and her beauty was a stark contrast with the ugliness of the previously–depicted crime scene and the faded trench coats of

Do Control Orders Facilitate The Rule Of Law? Essay
Do control orders facilitate the rule of law?
Introduction
Since 9/11, the Australian government has enacted over 60 counter–terrorism laws to assist in the fight against the rising threat of terrorism in
Australia. This legislation has recently been brought into question given the rise of extremist groups such as Islamic State and the lifting of Australia's
terror level to "High". Prior to 9/11 there were no specific laws in order to combat terrorism specifically in the Criminal Code. Australia's national
anti–terror laws are alarming not just in their volume, but also in their widespread scope. They include powers for warrantless searches, the banning of
organisations, preventive detention, and the undisclosed detention and interrogation of non–suspect citizens by the Australian Security Intelligence
Organisation (ASIO). The progress of these laws though parliament was eased by Australia's absence of a national bill or charter of rights. The fast
enactment of the laws was also aided by an apprehensive atmosphere and a feeling of urgency. This quick enactment has raised concerns over the
many years since the legislation passed regarding the facilitation of the rule of law given the extensive powers that the Commonwealth has in regards
to national defence and security. One such example of legislation that has proven to be controversial and has drawn supporters and critics alike are
control orders under Division 104 of the Criminal Code. The paper will assess whether or not

The Greek Speech, Against The Stepmother, And An Episode...
This essay compares the Ancient Greek speech "Against the Stepmother" and an episode of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit entitled "Legitimate
Rape", with the purpose to display the ways the court cases depicted in both the speech and television episode are both similar and different. "Against
the Stepmother" consists of a young man accusing his stepmother for killing his father and was written in Athens between 420 to 411 BC. The Law
and Order: Special Victims Unit episode "LegitimateRape" was aired on March 27, 2013, and depicts a court case dealing with a woman named Avery
accusing her co–worker, Purcell, of rape and stalking. Despite the temporal and cultural differences, there are significant similarities in regards to the
use of rhetoric and evidence. Yet, there are immense differences between these two such as the use of lawyers and police in modern cases and the need
to appeal to Gods in Ancient Greek times which vastly segregates the two cases. In the Ancient Greek speech, "Against the Stepmother", a young man
who is eighteen years old accuses his stepmother of killing his father. In his speech, the young man attempts to persuade the jury to indict his
stepmother of killing his father, and does so by using rhetoric and empathy to appeal to the jury. The stepmother is defended by her son, the young
man's half–brother. The young man draws on memories from his childhood to explain his father 's death, and implores the jury to punish the woman

Social And Political Order : Seat Belt Laws
Social and Political Order: Seat Belt Laws
Social and Political theories aim to define the relationships between government and citizen, and concerns the organization and basis of government.
(Merriam–Webster, n.d). In application, the necessity to find a balance between two primary theories becomes apparent. Modern day social and
political theories can largely be attributed to ideas of two individuals, Thomas Hobbes and Jean Jacques Rousseau. Hobbes believed major government
influence was a necessity to maintain a secure and peaceful society, protecting everyone against the selfish motives of the individual. Whereas
Rousseau argued that government influence directly interferes with individuals healthy motives, and inappropriately censors self–expression and
freedom. Through the evaluation of both the originating and traditional theories, in addition to contemporary updates of Hobbes and Rousseau's social
contract theories, and their application to modern law and politics the need for a meshing of minds is identified. The selection of a simple modern
law that demonstrates government oversight over individual expression is required to appropriately assess the aforementioned theories. In the United
States of America the majority, if not all states have issued seat belt laws. For the purpose of the evaluation we will be using the State of Texas seat

Examples Of Prejudice In Law And Order Svcu
Topic 1–Prejudice, as found in an episode of "Law and Order, SVU'
In one example of Law and Order I watched there was a series rapist was on the lurk. He was a black male that looked the same as any young black
male. The police went on a routined search for the assailant and found a younger black male and procceded to go a high speed chase with the suspect.
They then corner the boy and shot the boy in the head, chest, and back. They did a detailed search and found that the man shot was not the rapist and
did not have a weapon on him at the time of shooting. It was thought that the 3 officers shot the man because he was black. To some point, this was
true because we all have prejudice that causes conflict between who whe think we are and who we actually are. ... Show more content on

Crime Shows: Law & Order SVU
Most television crime shows feature cases that are loosely based on real life crimes. There may be a disclaimer presented at the beginning or end
of the show that says it's fictional and not based on real life characters or events but If you keep up with the news or read crime statistics, you hear
about very similar events that are happening in real life. I watched two shows, one was Criminal Minds and the other was Law & Order SVU. I
observed the race and gender of the people involved in the stories.
In the episode of Criminal Minds the case involved a white male perpetrator in his late 40's who was holding three young white women hidden in his
home. He had held them captive for 10 years. One managed to escape and went for help. The FBI officers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The subject of this episode involved a hate crime and manslaughter. A young black teenager is accused of a hate crime against a teenage
transgender boy. The detectives involved were two white females, one white male and 1 black male. The 15 year old offender along with his
friends saw a transgender boy with a camera taking pictures in a park and started to taunt him by pushing him and calling him names. The 15 year
old snatched the camera way from the transgender boy and a scuffle occurred with the transgender boy being pushed off a bridge in the park
accidently. All of the teenagers scattered out of fear. The transgender boy had a broken leg and bruises. The police were fair in their treatment of
the offender. Both the male and female police detectives were involved and concerned with what was going to happen with the 15 year old offender.
The offender was being charged with assault for pushing the boy off the bridge. The other boys involved were given probation. The 15 year old felt
terrible guilt and apologized to the transgender boy for hurting him. The transgender boy then passed away from an embolism due to the fall. The
black male detective and the one female detective went to his home to arrest him and tell his mother that the charges would now be upgraded to
involuntary manslaughter with a hate crime attached. The definition of a hate crime, also called a "bias crime" are crimes that "manifest evidence of

The Role Of Law And Order In The Thirty Years War
Peter Hagendorf was a German mercenary for several armies during the Thirty Years' War. The remnants of his diary chronicle his experiences during
the conflict. The diary is linear in form and records events he encountered from 1629 to 1649. His military career enabled him to travel extensively
throughout Europe witnessing skirmishes in several countries such as Belgium, France, Germany, and Poland. Peter Hagendorf's diary and
documentation of his numerous exploits is a useful primary source to review the role of law and order in the Thirty Years'War. His diary reports many
acts of lawless behaviour from soldiers and citizens and the crimes they committed such as theft, extortion, arson, terrorism, and implied sexual
violence. Throughout the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One passage from Hagendorf's log records the execution of seven soldiers in the Swedish army by their own commander . Hagendorf states that the
commander lured the seven soldiers to accompany him to soldiers that temporarily abandoned the regiment where he shot all seven of them to remind
people of the consequences of disobeying commands. There are no legally justifiable reasons for these killings as the soldiers murdered were innocent
of any wrongdoing. This event highlights the abandonment of law and order within the military as seven innocent soldiers were murdered simply to
send a message that anything perceived as insubordination will be punishable by death. Hagendorf does not express outrage or sympathy and instead
sarcastically remarks upon the murders as ''their escort payment'' . Hagendorf casually recalls taking part in another war crime; the incineration of a
castle on the French border with seven resisting peasants left to die inside . In sequence to this crime is the destruction of a nearby village, which per
Hagendorf consisted of around one thousand settlers . The diary informs that an imperial and Bavarian force of two thousand and five hundred strong
were met with resistance from the villagers and were resigned to bombarding the settlement with cannon fire before abandoning the village as it burned

Dr. Huang From The Tv Series Law & Order
In this paper, the author will focus mainly about the character Dr. George Huang from the TV series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and

be handled the same way in real life. Dr. Huang is a Forensic Psychiatrist as well as a FBI special agent. This paper will focus on the Forensic
Psychiatrist/ Psychologist part of Dr. Huang's job. This paper will talk about how Dr. Huang handles victims and co–workers with each criminal

that all criminal justice personal had the victims best interest in mind other than just doing what they have to do to make a living for themselves.
These among many other factors are what make Law & Order: SVU such a great show to watch. People love seeing justice being served time and
time again by the end of every episode. They love the emotions that are portrayed and the drama of watching the histories of characters, such as main
character Olivia, unravel with every episode. The real question is "Is all of this pertinent to real life criminal justice?". A lot happens in those 43

Essay On Law And Order Politics
As the atmosphere inside and outside of Donald Trump's rallies took a violent turn this weekend, the comparisons grew between Trump and two
figures from an earlier era of tumult: President Richard Nixon, and George Wallace, the conservative populist politician whose 1968 campaign for
president drew on cries for "law and order." Trump's language has clearly been harkening back to that tumultuous Vietnam War period, even using
the same phrases. "There has to be some decorum," he said in St. Louis on Friday. "There has to be some law and order in our country." He has
repeatedly referred to his campaign as speaking for the "silent majority," echoing Nixon's rallying cry to the white middle class. Trump's deliberate
choice of words have raised... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During that period, even as early as 1968, Nixon and other mainstream politicians sought to draw a distinction between crime and race, making a point
of saying that toughness on crime was good for black communities. Vietnam protesters and unrest at college campuses gradually faded from the
national agenda, but crime and its racial subtext stayed on. Concerns about crime played a prominent role in subsequent presidential campaigns,
perhaps most famously and vividly with the 1988 "Willie Horton ad." Law–and–order politics evolved away from cultural questions and toward a
narrower conversation about crime and punishment. This conversation, research shows, has been characterized by avoidance of overt racial
terminology but undergirded by an indelible linkage to race. Investigating the manner and timing of how crime became a political issue, the Yale
political scientist Vesla Weaver theorizes that the tough
–on–crime movement represents an effort by the losers of the civil rights struggle to redefine
the policy debate. In the 1980s and 1990s, the politics of crime turned distinctly punitive and remained racially coded. Hillary Clinton's reference to
"superpredators" when talking about crime (which has come up repeatedly in the current campaign) was made in 1996. On the campaign trail and in
office, Bill Clinton worked to shore up his "tough on crime" credentials. As the legal historian Ian Haney Lopez writes, "Clinton flew back to Arkansas

"Law and Order: Special Victims Unit" produced an episode titled "Thought Criminal" that took the viewer behind the scenes of the crew's efforts to

Law And Order Of The Justice System
Every American rely on the justice system to maintain law and order. Many have the expectations of the justice system to meet and exceed at the
necessary objectives of our laws. One the other hand many also expect to have a justice system that is fair and able to rehabilitate offenders. Currently
America has an overextended justice system that is falling apart at the joints. The current policies and procedures that focus on crime control,
punishment and prevention has been tilted towards punishment. With this concept of punishment the outcome is America is experiencing a high rate
of imprisonment especially when it pertains to nonviolent offenders. This is the direct result of using mandatory minimum sentencing requirements.
Society hinder access to judiciary relief leaving offenders to unconstitutional and harsh conditions of confinement.According to Worrall "the most
effective methods of controlling crime does not rely extensively on the justice system involvement" (Worrall, 2015). This time now within our
communities is a time and era that is calling for fiscal judiciousness. The time for mandatory minimums and superfluously guarantee punishment can be
eliminated. Moving beyond the justice system to a more rehabilitative approach that can provide offenders with tools and resources need for reentry;
hence, that will lower the recidivism rate in the United States. What is rehabilitation? "Rehabilitation is a planned intervention that is intended to

Changing Nature of Television Crime Drama Essay
"There are too many cop shows and they are becoming all the same. The same stories, the same lighting, the same camerawork, same dead bodies."

Given the diversity of concepts and setting of crime dramas currently being produced this comment may or may not seem as convincing as it may have
been when authored.
Take one crime drama series and investigate the respects in which it both: 1) reworks established crime drama formula and conventions; and 2) offers
novelty in terms of such aspects as concept, characterisations, episode structure and visual style.

Meaning achieved through symbiosis between ideological assumption and dramatic structure (MacMurraugh–Kavanagh, 2000).
The classic "detective story'' tends to involve a detective(s) piecing together evidence from a crime and finding the perpetrator. The offender generally
confesses and surrenders to authorities, (Sutton, Britts & Landman). The traditional "trial narrative", like the Perry Mason stories, often follow two
simple scenarios; either a key prosecution witness breaks down under the pressure admitting that they are the actual villain, or the defence present a
surprise witness or key evidence which highlights the real criminal, (Sutton, Britts & Landman). Conventional crime drama invokes crime as the very
mainspring of its action; therefore it tends to build up tension in terms of pure conflict of uncertainties, (Thompson, 1959).
The concept of joining these two narratives was previously seen in the 1963 series, Arrest and Trial also used the technique of two shows in one,
(www.allyourtv.com). However "Arrest and Trial" was different on a couple of counts. It was a 90

The Law In Breach And The Restoration Of Order
Our current ideology on crime and justice dates back to thousands of years back. This paper will compare and contrast our system and sense of crime
and justice with the society Malinowski describes in "The Law in Breach and the Restoration of Order". In our modern era, it is acceptable to think
Hammurabi code is ideal to pursue crime and justice or Cesare Beccaria's approach towards the pursue of justice is best for the society. To each to its
own when it comes to this based on their own values. But regardless of how extreme, or mild our societies thought can be to sought after justice for
crimes, the ultimate purpose of all of it to teach a lesson to the individual who committed the crime and to others. In our current system of measuring
crime has grown overtime. But we still enforce the notion of punishment. It was evident in Malinowski's time and even in 2017. Before the idea was to
shame the criminal and punish him or her to generate fear among others not commit the same crime. In today's world, we have jail, penalty system, and
prison to fulfill the same purpose. Prospective criminals still face the same process of being shamed and end up becoming a statistics to the society. ...

How we view crime more and what is a crime to us in today's world and how we would like to acquire justice is far more different. Malinowski did

tend to forget that it is not incest if it's between cousins. But during that time it was not common in that social class let along that society. Unlike in
today's world, it is common and prevalent. So, therefore, an individual does not need to commit suicide in Malinowski's given circumstances since it is

Law And Order By Thomas Brickhouse And Plato
Law and Order. They should operate in perfect harmony, but we often do not see this harmony. Laws can get in the way of order, and order can
sometimes trump laws. The problem arises to know when it is better to follow the law or to follow natural order. Socrates found himself in this
situation many times, but his decided outcomes seem to contradict himself in both the Crito where he says he cannot break the laws and the Apology
where he says he would violate the law in specific cases. Philosophers and readers are left trying to decide where he draws the line. Many
interpretations have tried to resolve this issue. Thomas Brickhouse and Nicholas use their understanding of Socrates to give their own interpretation that
they say resolves Socrates contradiction. With their interpretation, it becomes easier to understand and resolve the scrutiny between Socrates' choices.
In the Crito, Socrates is nearing his appointed death and his friend Crito is attempting to convince him to escape. The guard has been payed off and
Socrates only must walk out the door and flee Athens. Socrates quickly tells Crito that he cannot escape, because that would be breaking the laws of
Athens. Socrates main reason to care about the laws of Athens is to keep a just soul, because breaking the laws would be unjust and acting unjustly
would harm his soul. This is what Socrates truly cares about, whether he is harming his soul by being unjust or living just with his soul intact. He
would rather die than to

Law And Order Injustice

  • 1. Law and Order Injustice America focuses on keeping the rich streets clean and the poor streets dirty with a sense of people of color will be placed in poor dangerous neighborhoods with violence and drugs. The news reporters every day file cases of police officers using their power to control and abuse the law by hurting citizens by their image of clothing and color of their skin. In "A Brother's Murder" a journalist talks about his experience living in a poor neighborhood and how his brother tragically died in a city of crime. No it does not mean it is always out in the public there are cases where officers hide what they did and get away with it. The laws support the officers in their favor in trails depending on the state and how strong the evidence was for the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Scott is angry at the situation but it is obvious he is only accusing Hispanics instead other immigrants for example Canadians. Hispanics are already hiding from the law and they travel many times when they hear about the law enforcement going to theirs or area they're homes. Richard Raynor makes an opposite view on the issue in immigration by stating: The message here is a sensible one: beef up the Border Patrol; deport criminals; don't break up families; target labor–enforcement at bad–guy sweatshop employers and make an effort to deal with temporary visa overstays, who surprisingly make up as much as 50 percent of all illegals; supply Federal assistance to heavily impacted areas such as Los Angeles, and forget the idea of a national verification system or an identification card. (508–509). Some may say the solution is use more law enforcement but others say it is best to let them come. The decision is tough but if the law enforcement made wiser choses this situation wouldn't be so tragic. African American's are most likely to be imprisoned without a good trail and shot by law informant. Police officers do violent beatings and kill many black people without giving any warning. In "Platform for Justice" the article talks about Oscar Grant and they state, "Despite cameras catching a de–fenseless man dying at the hand of BART officer Johannes Mehserle, Grant's shooter only received an involuntary manslaughter conviction and a two–year ... • 2. Capital Punishment : A Way Of Maintaining Law And Order Capital punishment is one of the most controversial topics, especially in today's democratic world. Different people take different approaches to the matter and so do different countries as some still do implement capital punishment as a way of maintaining law and order in the societies. The different approaches into the matter are highly influenced by several societal divisions such as a religious affiliation, political affiliation, the level of education and the age of a person. However, every person has got his or her approach to the matter. In order to analyze the approaches of different people then, it is necessary to take a survey that will focus on several questions related to the approach on the death penalty. The questions include: Do you think death penalties are ethical? Do you think the death penalty is a good approach to stop crime? Do you think that the death penalty is appropriate for most crimes involving intentional and premeditated murder? For which crimes do you think that the death penalty must implement? Do you think the death penalty now or in the past has been implemented in any discriminatory manner? Why do you think the amnesty international opposes the death penalty? Do you think through the opposition of the death penalty the human activists deny the victims of violent crime their right? Do you think the death penalty is used by governments or legal institutions to suppress uncooperative voices? What is your take on the

  • 4. Essay On Law And Order In Lord Of The Flies Imagine yourself in a world with no adults, no political system, no rules nor order. It would just be you and all the other teens in your town. Would you just create your own society or little group? Or would you work with everyone else in your town to create a stabilized government and society? People would go off and do harmful things with their savage side instead of listening to someone else who is the same age as them. Just like in the era of development of civilization people were stranded with their own little groups killing animals and possibly killing others if attacked. However, there came a time where they all gathered to create a stabilized and working society for their benefit to survive and prosper. The key to a stabilized society is law and order. Law and order prevents us from becoming savages and showing violent nature. This is what William Golding conveys in his book Lord of the Flies. His novel demonstrates that law and order keeps us from becoming the cruel and dark beings we sometimes wish to be. Power and conquest seems to always go against law and order. Law and order helps us to be stabilized, be civilized, prosper and be in harmony for our own good no matter how much we may hate laws or rules. In the novel Ralph is the representation of order (with the conch) and our human nature. In the first chapter of the story Golding makes it noticeable that the conch is an object of power and law. Ralph is the first one to notice the conch when speaking to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Criminal Minds, NCIS, And Law And Order With an innumerable amount of scientific television shows being broadcast each day on various networks it is important to analyze the quality of the science presented in each show. The ability to critically examine all scientific plots is impossible considering the sheer number of active shows but the sentiment is definitely profound; television shows engage millions of viewers each day with their fast paced plots but often glaze over legitimate scientific processes for the sake of keeping viewers interested, or simply misrepresent information to make their storyline more fluid. Crime shows, arguably one of the more popular genres of shows, encompass both riveting plot devices as well as mystery and complexity through the use of science. Crime Scene Investigation (CSI), Criminal Minds, NCIS, and Law and Order all perfectly illustrate this formula––each of these shows allows viewers to go on criminal investigations with the main characters and take glimpses of the behind–the–scenes work that actually help to convict criminals. Processes like DNA and fingerprint recognition, clothing fiber identification, and mortuary science pique the interests of many viewers (while also seeming to ground the show itself in reality). Unfortunately, some shows have stretched the truth of scientific processes by collecting evidence incorrectly or even getting database matches far too fast (in addition to other mistakes). In order to catch these mistakes first hand, I opted to watch Law and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Secondly as time progressed criminals came up with ways to beat the policing system, therefore it was necessary for policing in Britain to develop, in order to keep on top of crime. Development factors such as; the establishment of the Metropolitan Police Force, passing of key legislation were key developments in policing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Further legislation such as the Prison Act 1898, reasserted the idea of reformation as the main role in prison regimes. This led to a dilution of the separate system, the abolition of hard labour, and established the idea that prison labour should be productive. The argument of the reformation of prisons brought attention to young offenders. Transportation itself had ended in 1852, as reformists viewed it as a lenient punishment, however under the Reformation School Acts (1854); courts were allowed to send children for transportation[15] setting double standards within society, whilst historians argue that there were little, if any boundaries between children and adults[16]. The Children's Act of 1908, established juvenile courts[17] and also banned prison sentences to those less than 14 years of age. This was significant in influencing effective law enforcement, as children were seen with sympathy and compassion. The legislation also showed that boundaries were being set for adults and children. During this period there was a general feeling that children were committing crime due to inadequate discipline and education at home, thus the Borstal System was introduced[18]. The main elements in the borstal programs included; education, regular work, vocational training, and group counselling, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Law And Order: Special Victims Unit The opening credits of a television show can convey significant meaning concerning what topics and themes the show will be discussing. While it's true that some opening credits, for example One Tree Hill and Gossip Girl, are superficial and paired with nothing but a catchy song, some also offer potential insight. After examining the introduction for Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, it's clear this show'sopening credits falls under the later category. Law and Order: Special Victims Unit deals with sexual crimes, which is made evident in the opening, but also focuses on New York City law enforcements' role in preventing these crimes. Through the us of color and pairing inspiring city shots with pictures symbolizing death and criminal activity, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While most of the credits are in black and white, certain images in color stand out. For example, at the beginning and end strategically placed images of New York buildings are seen in color, as if to highlight all the darkness and corruption contained inside such a beautiful city. Moreover, although consistently in black and white, it's evident the child object images flash from a darker version to a lighter version. This is significant because historically white is a color that symbolizes purity and innocence. With this color change, Law and Order: Special Victims Unit is further emphasizing the horrible and disturbing corruption that results from crimes committed against children. In another instance of color change, there is a moment where a woman's legs are shown in a slightly tinted brown color with the words "Molestation" beginning to appear. However, the shot changes to a group of prostitutes, and while the world "Molestation" continues to run cross the screen, the lettering and image are now in black and white. Since the image switches from a female victim in color to a black and white shot of a group of women participating in an illegal activity, the change appears to symbolize loss of light and thus the rise of darkness and corruption. Hence, color is used effectively to create a dark versus light tone and reflect themes of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Law And Order In Lord Of The Flies In the majority of countries in the world, it is obvious that they have some sort of law and order in each and every one of their civilizations. Such law and order may include some sort of democracy or monarchy that governs the country, and ensures that there is some sort of order that makes sure that there aren't any problems that occur. But in the story "Lord of the Flies," by William Golding, we are able to experience that lack of any sort of democracy or any other government, but there is a definite overpowering sense of anarchy that inevitably led to the death of a few of their colleagues. • 9. What Is The Theme Of Law And Order In Lord Of The Flies William Goldings 'Lord of the Flies' represents the theme of Law and order throughout the novel. During the novel the group of the boys are stuck on an island and some turn into savages. Golding uses symbolism, characters and actions to represent law and order. The conch was the first thing to gather all the boys on the island, for a meeting. The boys then discussed how things should be done and they elect to vote for a chief. "Him with the shell." Ralph, the fair haired, good looking boy is voted as chief. But he isn't voted chief because of his age, leadership skills or any form of democracy. Ralph was voted in as chief because he was the one who blew the conch. The conch that would call the boys to sort out and discuss all the problems that they would have over the months that the boys would spend on the island. During these meetings, the conch didn't just call them, the conch allowed the holder to speak. To express their thoughts and ideas to all the other boys. But as soon as fear and bloodthirst took over their minds, the conch didn't mean anything to them and once this happened there was no way of getting them back. Soon Jack, Ralphs hunter, turned too and decided to start his own group. "Who'll join my tribe and have fun?" Boy by boy, more kids started to join Jacks tribe. Eventually the conch smashes and all breaks loose on the island. The conch represented law and order on the island and once the conch was destroyed, Ralph's rules went with it. Throughout the ... • 10. Law And Order In Lord Of The Flies Quote Analysis The most important thing in the world is law and order. If society has no order then, it will hit rock bottom. The story takes place in the midst of a war when a plane gets shot down on a stranded island. The inhabitants that survived from the crash turn from are a group of proper British boys and the story is about how they turn into hardened savages and murderers. In the novel, Lord Of The Flies by William Golding, the author writes about how the fear of the unknown and the absence of law and order can change someone into a savage. Throughout the novel, Golding claims that without law and order society will fall and that the fear of the unknown is a very powerful motivator. The situations like those is seen in this novel Lord of the Flies. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His lesson is still important to this day because he is right. Some people still lack a sense of law and order in this world, Similar to the Lord of the Flies a group of 18–year–old boys in "Manchester [bullied] a 17–year–old boy with autism...the boys would pick on him by doing things such as [pelting him with] dog mess, [having] his limbs scratched with sandpaper and [is] forced to drink vodka and gin until he passed out." This event specifically relates to Piggy being tormented by the other boys because of his appearance and disability. The boys on the island have no sense of order to torment a kid who is not the same as everyone else. This is the kind of society Golding is trying to portray in Lord of the Flies. He is basically saying if you are 'different' then you are not allowed into a society. Furthermore, Golding's lesson is also shown by being related to Simon death. The teenagers used a "mobile phone...[to record which was]...played in court, the boy could be heard begging...please don't hurt me." This event is specifically related to Simon death because he was also faintly crying for the boys to stop hitting him and they didn't listen to him because their savagery clouded ... • 11. The Problem Of Law And Order In America Throughout the recent election, there was one phrase that we heard quite a bit from President Trump. "Law and Order." At face value, that phrase did a lot of good for President Trump, anyone would agree that Law and Order is a very popular idea, but what people do not realize are the facts behind that phrase and until beginning to read this book I am not sure I did either. 1 of 30 Americans and 1 of 11 African Americans are incarcerated. Again, the idea of Law and Order is one that we can all agree on, however, I am beginning to question if America is avoiding the larger problem of systemic poverty throughout generations. Upon further research, I found that close to 60 percent of people in prison are people of color. My question is not if ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Law & Order: SVU, Episode 'Doubt' As a juror for the case of Myra Denning v. Ron Polikoff, I consider it my responsibility to make sure that I chose a fair verdict for Mr. Polikoff based upon the evidence presented during this trial. Therefore, for one count of Rape in the First degree, I chose the verdict of not guilty for the defendant, Mr. Ron Polikoff for the following reasons. On the night of the presumed rape, Ron Polikoff, a Professor at City Arts College got in contact with one of his Grad students, Myra Denning, in regards to discussing her final portfolio. Mr. Polikoff had every intention of setting up a time and place to meet with Ms. Denning, but was soon forced to change that because Ms. Denning showed up at his doorstep late at night wearing a sexy, silk... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She has actually done this many times before. Also, through the help of Jenny, Ron's college student girlfriend (who also happens to be Myra's roommate), a very long list of people Myra ever had a sexual encounter with came into light. This is a huge part of the case as to why I believe Ron is innocent because it just goes to show how promiscuous Myra is and that she has a very difficult time keeping her legs closed and saying no. I think it's safe to say that Ms. Denning is not the most reliable or trustworthy person in this type of matter. To further prove my point, she filed a sexual assault complaint against Det. Elliot Stabler because she assumed he tried to "cop a feel", when in reality all he did was save Ms. Denning from falling down the stairs because she had just fainted. Ms. Denning also has a history of lying which make it difficult to trust someone especially when they lie about facts of the case. For example, when Detective Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler questioned her if she had and recent sexual intercourse, she firmly said no. They soon found out that Myra Denning was not only lying about that but also about the fact that she has a boyfriend. Lastly, Ms. Denning used her ailing grandmother as an excuse to get out a speeding ticket when the cops pulled her over. However, a short while late it was discovered that her grandmother was in n such urgency. Since the very beginning Mr. Polikoff has cooperated which less can be said about Ms. Denning ... In civil service, I had to serve warrants, evictions, and subpoenas, working in the jail was a little more complex. It was extremely harder to get adjusted. I worked 12 plus hour shifts. I was not able to leave the premises. It felt as if I was locked in there. The mail jail did not have windows and it was very scary, the inmates were not the only scary part, it was the feeling of not being able to leave. The jails were filled with hardcore criminals, drug addicts, drug dealers, thieves, child molesters, child murderers, innocent people, physical disabled, and mental disabled people. • 16. The Themes of Law and Order in 'Oresteia' The Themes of the Oresteia The play termed the Oresteia is actually a trilogy that is built around the family of Agamemnon. Traditionally, one of the primary themes of the three plays is a movement from a traditional belief in revenge for wrongs to one of justice and the rule of law. The purpose of this paper is to discuss all three of the plays and look at how justice is conceived in each. Agamemnon The first play, Agamemnon, tells about the return of the King from the Trojan wars and how his wife has chosen to react to the reunion. Clytemnestra is the queen who was angered by the fact that Agamemnon was away for a decade and that the King sacrificed their daughter Iphigenia to one of the gods. In one part of the play, the Chorus of Elders chants "Zeus who hath paved a way for human thought, by ordaining this firm law 'He who learns, suffers'" (Aeschylus, trans. 1893, 1.176–179) which speaks to the law that was formed by the words. The people of Greece followed the law that a person who commits a crime, whether that be a recognized law or one that the punisher deemed appropriate, is subject to some form of punishment. In Agamemnon's case, Clytemnestra believed that his actions justified his death. She did not believe that it was murder because his actions justified her actions. She is advised against injuring the King and also believes that since he has returned from the Troy with a concubine, Cassandra, that Cassandra must be killed also. The play ends with ... Nonverbal and Symbolic Behavior in a 'Law and Order' Episode Nonverbal and symbolic behavior: Law and Order episode The syndicated television drama Law and Order often focuses upon issues of class and crime in New York City. The show is neatly segmented between the 'law' and the 'order' portions, the first of which depict blue –collar cops on the job, the second white–collar prosecutors. Both white–collar and blue–collar criminals are featured on the show. The beginning of the episode entitled "The pursuit of happiness" depicted the rumpled detectives staring at a crime scene. Although tired, their loose shoulders indicated they were somewhat relaxed and accustomed to seeing a dead body. The victim was dressed in a suit and found dead in his office. The detectives seemed familiar and friendly with one another as the crime scene forensic investigators gathered evidence. They kept their hands in their pockets, however, and did not physically become involved with the dead man, as if wanting to keep emotional distance from him. It is also possible that as a middle–aged man, he was not a particularly sympathetic victim, unlike a child. When questioning the murdered man's wife, the detectives seemed sympathetic in terms of their expressions. They appeared concerned and their hardened expressions softened. The woman was shown sobbing and had bloodshot eyes. Tears were rolling down her face and her beauty was a stark contrast with the ugliness of the previously–depicted crime scene and the faded trench coats of the detectives. She ... • 19. Do Control Orders Facilitate The Rule Of Law? Essay Do control orders facilitate the rule of law? Introduction Since 9/11, the Australian government has enacted over 60 counter–terrorism laws to assist in the fight against the rising threat of terrorism in Australia. This legislation has recently been brought into question given the rise of extremist groups such as Islamic State and the lifting of Australia's terror level to "High". Prior to 9/11 there were no specific laws in order to combat terrorism specifically in the Criminal Code. Australia's national anti–terror laws are alarming not just in their volume, but also in their widespread scope. They include powers for warrantless searches, the banning of organisations, preventive detention, and the undisclosed detention and interrogation of non–suspect citizens by the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO). The progress of these laws though parliament was eased by Australia's absence of a national bill or charter of rights. The fast enactment of the laws was also aided by an apprehensive atmosphere and a feeling of urgency. This quick enactment has raised concerns over the many years since the legislation passed regarding the facilitation of the rule of law given the extensive powers that the Commonwealth has in regards to national defence and security. One such example of legislation that has proven to be controversial and has drawn supporters and critics alike are control orders under Division 104 of the Criminal Code. This essay compares the Ancient Greek speech "Against the Stepmother" and an episode of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit entitled "Legitimate Rape", with the purpose to display the ways the court cases depicted in both the speech and television episode are both similar and different. "Against the Stepmother" consists of a young man accusing his stepmother for killing his father and was written in Athens between 420 to 411 BC. The Law and Order: Special Victims Unit episode "LegitimateRape" was aired on March 27, 2013, and depicts a court case dealing with a woman named Avery accusing her co–worker, Purcell, of rape and stalking. Despite the temporal and cultural differences, there are significant similarities in regards to the use of rhetoric and evidence. Yet, there are immense differences between these two such as the use of lawyers and police in modern cases and the need to appeal to Gods in Ancient Greek times which vastly segregates the two cases. In the Ancient Greek speech, "Against the Stepmother", a young man who is eighteen years old accuses his stepmother of killing his father. In his speech, the young man attempts to persuade the jury to indict his stepmother of killing his father, and does so by using rhetoric and empathy to appeal to the jury. • 24. Social And Political Order : Seat Belt Laws Social and Political Order: Seat Belt Laws Social and Political theories aim to define the relationships between government and citizen, and concerns the organization and basis of government. (Merriam–Webster, n.d). In application, the necessity to find a balance between two primary theories becomes apparent. Modern day social and political theories can largely be attributed to ideas of two individuals, Thomas Hobbes and Jean Jacques Rousseau. Hobbes believed major government influence was a necessity to maintain a secure and peaceful society, protecting everyone against the selfish motives of the individual. Whereas Rousseau argued that government influence directly interferes with individuals healthy motives, and inappropriately censors self–expression and freedom. Through the evaluation of both the originating and traditional theories, in addition to contemporary updates of Hobbes and Rousseau's social contract theories, and their application to modern law and politics the need for a meshing of minds is identified. The selection of a simple modern law that demonstrates government oversight over individual expression is required to appropriately assess the aforementioned theories. In the United States of America the majority, if not all states have issued seat belt laws. For the purpose of the evaluation we will be using the State of Texas seat belts laws as a guide. There are no legally justifiable reasons for these killings as the soldiers murdered were innocent of any wrongdoing. This event highlights the abandonment of law and order within the military as seven innocent soldiers were murdered simply to send a message that anything perceived as insubordination will be punishable by death. Trump's language has clearly been harkening back to that tumultuous Vietnam War period, even using the same phrases. "There has to be some decorum," he said in St. Louis on Friday. "There has to be some law and order in our country." He has repeatedly referred to his campaign as speaking for the "silent majority," echoing Nixon's rallying cry to the white middle class. During that period, even as early as 1968, Nixon and other mainstream politicians sought to draw a distinction between crime and race, making a point of saying that toughness on crime was good for black communities. Vietnam protesters and unrest at college campuses gradually faded from the national agenda, but crime and its racial subtext stayed on. Concerns about crime played a prominent role in subsequent presidential campaigns, perhaps most famously and vividly with the 1988 "Willie Horton ad." Law–and–order politics evolved away from cultural questions and toward a narrower conversation about crime and punishment. This conversation, research shows, has been characterized by avoidance of overt racial terminology but undergirded by an indelible linkage to race. Investigating the manner and timing of how crime became a political issue, the Yale political scientist Vesla Weaver theorizes that the tough –on–crime movement represents an effort by the losers of the civil rights struggle to redefine the policy debate. In the 1980s and 1990s, the politics of crime turned distinctly punitive and remained racially coded. Hillary Clinton's reference to "superpredators" when talking about crime (which has come up repeatedly in the current campaign) was made in 1996. On the campaign trail and in office, Bill Clinton worked to shore up his "tough on crime" credentials. As the legal historian Ian Haney Lopez writes, "Clinton flew back to Arkansas to ... Many have the expectations of the justice system to meet and exceed at the necessary objectives of our laws. One the other hand many also expect to have a justice system that is fair and able to rehabilitate offenders. Currently America has an overextended justice system that is falling apart at the joints. The current policies and procedures that focus on crime control, punishment and prevention has been tilted towards punishment. With this concept of punishment the outcome is America is experiencing a high rate of imprisonment especially when it pertains to nonviolent offenders. This is the direct result of using mandatory minimum sentencing requirements. Society hinder access to judiciary relief leaving offenders to unconstitutional and harsh conditions of confinement.According to Worrall "the most effective methods of controlling crime does not rely extensively on the justice system involvement" (Worrall, 2015). This time now within our communities is a time and era that is calling for fiscal judiciousness. The time for mandatory minimums and superfluously guarantee punishment can be eliminated. • 38. Changing Nature of Television Crime Drama Essay "There are too many cop shows and they are becoming all the same. The same stories, the same lighting, the same camerawork, same dead bodies." – Peter Ansorge, 1997. Given the diversity of concepts and setting of crime dramas currently being produced this comment may or may not seem as convincing as it may have been when authored. Take one crime drama series and investigate the respects in which it both: 1) reworks established crime drama formula and conventions; and 2) offers novelty in terms of such aspects as concept, characterisations, episode structure and visual style. In 1997, Senior Commissioning Editor for Drama on channel four in Britain, Peter Ansorges', made the comment, that there were too many crime dramas, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Meaning achieved through symbiosis between ideological assumption and dramatic structure (MacMurraugh–Kavanagh, 2000). The classic "detective story'' tends to involve a detective(s) piecing together evidence from a crime and finding the perpetrator. The offender generally confesses and surrenders to authorities, (Sutton, Britts & Landman). The traditional "trial narrative", like the Perry Mason stories, often follow two simple scenarios; either a key prosecution witness breaks down under the pressure admitting that they are the actual villain, or the defence present a surprise witness or key evidence which highlights the real criminal, (Sutton, Britts & Landman). Conventional crime drama invokes crime as the very mainspring of its action; therefore it tends to build up tension in terms of pure conflict of uncertainties, (Thompson, 1959). The concept of joining these two narratives was previously seen in the 1963 series, Arrest and Trial also used the technique of two shows in one, (www.allyourtv.com). However "Arrest and Trial" was different on a couple of counts. It was a 90 –minute drama, an anomalous amount of time even tat in that era, secondly the way the crime was covered also differed. • 40. The Law In Breach And The Restoration Of Order Our current ideology on crime and justice dates back to thousands of years back. This paper will compare and contrast our system and sense of crime and justice with the society Malinowski describes in "The Law in Breach and the Restoration of Order". In our modern era, it is acceptable to think Hammurabi code is ideal to pursue crime and justice or Cesare Beccaria's approach towards the pursue of justice is best for the society. To each to its own when it comes to this based on their own values. But regardless of how extreme, or mild our societies thought can be to sought after justice for crimes, the ultimate purpose of all of it to teach a lesson to the individual who committed the crime and to others. In our current system of measuring crime has grown overtime. But we still enforce the notion of punishment. It was evident in Malinowski's time and even in 2017. Before the idea was to shame the criminal and punish him or her to generate fear among others not commit the same crime. In today's world, we have jail, penalty system, and prison to fulfill the same purpose. Prospective criminals still face the same process of being shamed and end up becoming a statistics to the society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How we view crime more and what is a crime to us in today's world and how we would like to acquire justice is far more different. Malinowski did state that the boys love towards his cousin was considered unethical by his society or village since it's his cousin so therefore it's a shame. But people tend to forget that it is not incest if it's between cousins. But during that time it was not common in that social class let along that society. Unlike in today's world, it is common and prevalent. So, therefore, an individual does not need to commit suicide in Malinowski's given circumstances since it is not considered shameful or a ... • 42. Law And Order By Thomas Brickhouse And Plato Law and Order. They should operate in perfect harmony, but we often do not see this harmony. Laws can get in the way of order, and order can sometimes trump laws. The problem arises to know when it is better to follow the law or to follow natural order. Socrates found himself in this situation many times, but his decided outcomes seem to contradict himself in both the Crito where he says he cannot break the laws and the Apology where he says he would violate the law in specific cases. Philosophers and readers are left trying to decide where he draws the line. Many interpretations have tried to resolve this issue. Thomas Brickhouse and Nicholas use their understanding of Socrates to give their own interpretation that they say resolves Socrates contradiction. With their interpretation, it becomes easier to understand and resolve the scrutiny between Socrates' choices. In the Crito, Socrates is nearing his appointed death and his friend Crito is attempting to convince him to escape. The guard has been payed off and Socrates only must walk out the door and flee Athens. Socrates quickly tells Crito that he cannot escape, because that would be breaking the laws of Athens. Socrates main reason to care about the laws of Athens is to keep a just soul, because breaking the laws would be unjust and acting unjustly would harm his soul. This is what Socrates truly cares about, whether he is harming his soul by being unjust or living just with his soul intact. He would rather die than to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
