7. Literature Review
• Different contexts make users to create
different styles of avatars:
• Blogging: as an extension of users’ lives
• Dating: more charming (taller or slimmer)
• Gaming: male users would adapt a female identity
to gain attention and assistance from other
players.
8. Literature Review
• Taylor(2003) proposes that the context of
communication as well as the type of avatar
customization options can direct users to construct a
particular appearance.
• The environment where the characters are put in
affects how the avatars will look like (Boberg, Piippo
& Ollila, 2008.)
• Design different scenarios (dating, meeting, sporting,
etc.) into the tasks. Users can change their original
looks cater to the tasks requested.
9. Literature Review
• Johnston and Thomas (1984) have noted that an
animation character does not need to be realistic to
convey an image of a feeling and thinking being.
• Smith (2000) argues that game avatars that are too
realistic can actually limit the experimentation since
they leave less room for imagination.
• As the mentioned above, the avatars design would
be not so realistic style but cute.
10. Literature Review
• Culbertson lists some direct advantages to learners
of using avatars:
1. Motivate learners and have the ability for avatars to
interact on the student’s schedule, as opposed to a
human instructor’s limited availability.
2. Can create interest and fun in learning.
3. Can demostrate soft skills being important in
business success.
4. Can drive higher rates of learning and completion of
subject.
13. Game design - Customize
• Design different types of hair style, hair color, tops,
bottoms, shoes and accessories for users creating
their own style avatars.
• Af first users should create the avatars, then while
doing the task with different scenario, they have to
change their outfits and publish the result on their
own wall for evaluations from other friends.
14. Game design - Tasks
• The tasks design are giving diverese context
environments to users, and asking them to
customize avatars which cater the requests.
• Task 1: Today you will have dating with your
friends(with the scenario background.) What are you
going to dress for this?
• While users finish their customizations for task 1,
they should publish the avatars on Facebook wall for
evaluation from friends.
15. Game design - Gifts
• Sometimes users don’t have the specific items for
their task accomplishing, so other users can send
gifts to them who need these items to help finishing
the tasks.
• Users also can pulish the requests on their wall for
help of items needs. Friends of them notice that then
can send them the items as gifts.
• Users feel free to send friends gifts if they want.
