LET’S KEEP THEM

MEETING INVITE FOR
THIS FRIDAY 2.30 PM
Auckland Transport and our
Health Promoting team are keen
to see how “chaos at the school
gate” can be reduced by
encouraging families to leave the
car in the garage!
So, this week, on Friday 21
August in the staffroom at
2.30pm, you are invited to a
meeting about starting walking
school buses and park and
walks.
Please come along and see how
your children can be involved.
Can’t make it, but would like to
help? You can contact Mrs Smart
at school in Room 14 or email
lucys.stallworthy@aucklandtran
sport.govt.nz
A family survey has been sent
home for you to return too.
2. SCOOTER AND CYCLING
NEWS
LET’S KEEP THEM
MOVING
Scooters: It’s great to see so
many children using their
scooters to get to school. This is
all part of Auckland
TravelWise’s aim of reducing
“chaos at the school gate” by
reducing car travel.
At Hill any student can scooter
to school provided that parents
approve and have gone over the
route to school with children
and check they know where to
cross and are aware of any
safety matters.
Cycling: The Seniors Bigfoot
Adventure cycle safety
programme has increased
interest in cycling to school.
Students who are 9 years and
older are able to cycle
independently if parents
consider they have the skills and
road safety knowledge needed
for their route. Students can get
a parental permission form from
Mr Rix. Let’s keep them safe
and active!
LOCKDOWN PRACTICE
NEXT WEEK
As part of our Civil Defence
and Emergency Response
procedures, a Lockdown
practice will be held next week.
This aims to let staff and
students know what to do if
there is the need for a
“lockdown” such as if there is
an offender on school grounds
being looked for by police or an
agitated member of the public
on site or a student who may
pose a physical threat to others.
In a “lockdown” situation, staff
take actions such as locking
doors where possible, closing
blinds and getting children
relatively out of sight.
BOARD MEETING NEXT
WEDNESDAY AT 7.00PM
Next week, on Wednesday 26
August at 7.00pm in the
staffroom, the Board of
Trustees holds its next meeting.
The agenda covers policy
review, areas of student
achievement, class highlights,
Te Huarahi, property
development and finance.
Meetings are open to the public
and you are most welcome to
attend.
DAFFODIL DAY COMING
NEXT WEEK
Each year, Hill School
supports the Cancer
Society’s Daffodil day
appeal. Next week on
Friday, 28 August, children are
encouraged to bring a gold coin
donation to school for a class
coin trail. Each child who
makes a donation will receive a
daffodil in appreciation.
