S - State Objectives
By the endof the week:
Studentswill describe the traditionsof Christmas,Hanukkah,Eld-ul-Fltr,Diwali,Kwanzaa,Las
Posadas,Three KingsDay, and Chinese NewYearwhenaskedwithouterror afterwatching
video. Studentsinthe fourthgrade will match five outof eightwinterholidaysaroundthe
world,discussedinclass,towhere theyare celebrated whengivenamapafter making
informational books.Studentswilltype aparagraphcomparingand contrastingtwoof the eight
winterholidays,onblogger,describingatleastthree aspectsof eachholiday withnotesthey
have prepared fromvideoandflascards.
S - SelectMethods,Media, andMaterials
I will use videofromYoutube requiringa computerandprojector.The linkwill needto
be testedbefore class.The secondthingwill be apowerpointIcreatedwhichwill alsorequirea
computerandprojector.I will have tomake sure the presentationworksinpreparation.The
studentswill use sheetsprintedoff of the internet,pencils,andcoloringutensilseithercolored
pencilsorcrayonsto create informational books.Theywill create flashcardswithindex cards
and pencils.Those materialswill be gatheredbeforehandforeasytransitions.Finally,theywill
use computersto type a paragraphon Blogger.

Mediausedwill be “HolidaysAroundthe World”videocreatedbyLeighMason,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ux2QpVYPM1s ,to introduce the holidaysanda
PowerPointcreatedbyme.Coloringsheetswillbe printedoff tomake small informational
booklet.Theywillthenmake flashcardscardsusinginformationfromhandout.Afterall thisis
completedtheywill type paragraphonBlogger.
R – Require LearnerParticipation

Studentswill watch the video,the PowerPointpresentation, andtake notes.They will
put informationtheylearnedabouteachholidayonthe printedsheetsandcolorthe picture
makinga book.Thentheywill take informationIhave typedandputthe mainideaonone side
of an index cardandthe holidayonthe other.Theywill thenwrite a paragraphcomparingand
contrastingtwoof the holidays.Theywillsubmitof all thiswork. Afterhavingtheirparagraph
approved, theywill type theirparagraphonthe classroomBloggerpage.
E – Evaluate andRevise
Studentswill be evaluatedbasedonthe informationof theirparagraphs.If the turnedin
paragraph isnot adequate,theywillbe askedtowrite anew one usingtheirnotes,booklets,
and index cards.
