ASSURE Method
A- Teaching Holiday traditions to 4th graders. There are 20 students 11 girls, and 9 boys.
There are 2 Muslims, 3 Jewish and 2 African Americans.
S- My students will identify Holiday traditions from 4 different cultures those being
Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and Eid-ul-Fitr, by the end of two weeks at 100% accuracy.
We will use calendars, video clips, google search, books, pictures, a project, and personal
experience.
S- I will use a calendar with the four different culture’s Holiday on it. I will use pictures of
people celebrating in different ways. Video clips about the Holidays and who celebrates
them. Have the students’ google the Holidays and gather information about them. I will show
them children’s picture books and children’s informational literature about the Holidays. I
will have the children talk in small groups about what their Holiday traditions are. Lastly
they will get into four groups and construct a project displaying the culture’s tradition that
they were given.
U- Everything will be student centered. The pictures, books, and calendar will all be hands
on activities. The google search will be done by the children with my supervision. The videos
will be shown to the class as a whole. The projects with be done four groups of five.
R- I will ask my students to discuss their Holiday traditions in groups. Also I will
accommodate different learning styles by having things that are seen, listened to, and hands
on activities.
E- I will assess my students in how well they work together in groups, and how well they
present their projects on the Holiday tradition I gave them.
