Face-to-face bullying at school often continues to escalate online. Damaging material can be broadcast
to a large and invisible audience, anonymously, and instantly.
Cyberbullying is the misuse of technology to deliberately and repeatedly bully someone.
Most cyberbullying incidents begin at school
Cyberbullying can include: interpersonal violence, aggression, humiliation, and harassment
It is damaging and leaves those involved feeling unsafe and alone.
In its worst form, cyberbullying is illegal and can lead to students harming themselves.
Social Media Awareness for Schools aims to reduce the overall occurrence of cyberbullying in
all of its forms by:
Teaching students to be mindful, respectful, responsible media interpreters, creators, and
communicators
Informing students of the risks and repercussions of living in a constantly connected digital world
Enabling students to protect themselves and make sound decisions to manage their risk online
Providing educators with effective strategies to prevent and mitigate cyberbullying in schools
