In typical fashion, some of Klein's newly gained notoriety went to his head and in turn, shined
through his works of art. For example, in his article "True Blue" featured in The New Yorker, Peter
Schjeldahl mentioned that "Still, some quality of ego–transcending devotion persists through all
Klein's work." Klein is very confident and fearless even when the work its not complex and leans
toward minimalist. After several months of exhibitions he makes a shift in his style of art that has
become known as his "Blue Period" (January 1957). Blue Monochrome was his first real success.
It's notoriety came with a show based around his new color in question, "International Klein Blue".
What makes his new color interesting is that he actually created with the help of a chemist.
Monochrome Blue has no trace of line or imagery, it simply surrounds the viewer in color,
provoking meditation and deep thought. This notion of meditation and deep thought may be a
reference to the sky, the Holy Ghost, or even Mary's robe which was often depicted as vibrant blue
in Renaissance paintings. The idea to reference art history was a very contemporary and post modern
idea showing him ahead of the times. Klein's blue period was seen as a amazing success and to show
gratitude in Paris they released 1,001

Summary Of No Logo By Naomi Klein
Naomi Klein in her book No Logo outlines her thoughts as to how marketing and advertising by a
company has made a dramatic shift from showcasing a product, to the branding of the company
name. Companies have now shifted their focus to creating an association between the company and
an idea. The company then uses this idea to sell their products. In her book she also addresses the
growing massive globalization of corporations into global Goliaths. She makes the claim that such
large corporations may even be considered form of multinational government. Klein states that these
huge corporations are squeezing out the competition and creating less competition to compete with
within the markets, and less of a fight to attract consumers. ... Show more content on

In the book Klein fears that the brands have allowed the companies to become too powerful and
there is no counterbalance to their power. These super–corporations are allowed to act at will and
often are stepping all other smaller corporations as well as within the countries these corporations
operate in. Her arguments are very much in line with the anti–globalization movement that is
gaining popularity in the world. The brands of companies have become so powerful and insidious
that they are almost impossible to escape. Our culture has surrendered to the idea of the brand.
Brands now dominate our society and even have crept into our education systems. Klein says in her
book, "...this corporate obsession with brand identity is waging a war on public and individual
space: on public institutions such as schools, on youthful identities, on the concept of nationality and
on the possibilities for unmarketed space." (5) Coke and Pepsi have bidding wars over the rights to
have their vending machines in schools. College and university sports arenas are plastered with
advertisements, or even named after a corporation, like the Taco Bell Pavilion in Boise. "There are
certain corporations which market themselves so aggressively, which are so intent on stamping their
image on everybody and every street, that they build up a reservoir of

Calvin Klein
An American Designer
By
Neera Bann
Calvin Richard Klein was born and raised in New York City's borough of the Bronx. He decided he
wanted to be a fashion designer at an early age, most probably as a result of the influence of his
grandmother. Leo and Flora Klein were his parents. They both worked in the grocery business.
Flora's mother, Molly Stern was an accomplished seamstress. She operated a notions shop and
tailoring business where Calvin spent a lot of time as a child. (Marsh) Calvin attended P.S 80, a
public school that a lot of other famous people attended including Penny and Gary Marshall and
Ralph Lauren. (Marsh) At P.S 80 he excelled in art ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Klein's design philosophy is rooted in minimalism. This is what he is known for. He typically uses
neutral colors or earth tones and designs separates that work in many different ensembles, from day
to night and season to season. At the same time his advertising for jeans and fragrances was being
criticized, Calvin Klein clothing was receiving critical acclaim for its clean, modern lines. (Gaines)
Time magazine named Klein one of the twenty–five most influential Americans in 1996. Klein won
the prestigious Coty Award three times in a row (1973–1975), becoming the youngest designer to
ever have that honor. In 1982, 1983, and 1986 he also captured the Council of Fashion Designers of
America Award. In addition Klein built a financially strong company with the continued advice and
help of partner Barry Schwartz, who guided the company through tough financial times in the late
1980s. Few designers have rivaled his worldwide empire. (Gaines)
In late 2002, Calvin Klein, Inc. caught the eye of Phillips–Van Heusen Corporation (PVH), a
company looking to acquire a major brand. As the largest shirt maker in the United States, PVH
owned the Van Heusen, IZOD, and G.H Bass brands and had licensing agreements with Geoffrey
Beene, Arrow, DKNY, and Kenneth Cole. Under the leadership of CEO Bruce Klatsky, PVH made a
play for Calvin Klein and eventually won the battle. Under the terms of the deal, Klein

Calvin Klein Assignment
When people think of Calvin Klein majority will probably have an automatic image of a half–naked
chiseled male model with his jeans unbuttoned. This "natural response," so to speak, is due to CK's
great effort in connecting sex appeal with its product. CK took a bold, marketing chance with sex
appeal and benefited from selling it to the point of controversy. To market sex appeal to customers,
who are mainly in their prime time such as 20–40 year–olds, CK had to understand product concepts
and product adoption levels. The following composition will explain such concepts and levels, in
addition to explaining how the brand developed over time. The infamous cliché "Sex Sells" does not
fall short to CK's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once this realization gets going, customers are eager to find out more about how comfortable or
how different CK briefs are compared to other brands.
Since the advertisements are very sexual, customers who are aware and interested in CK's
underwear will begin to evaluate the costs and benefits of the new good. CK's advertisements and
models suggest that by wearing CK underwear it will give the wearer confidence to be sexy and
attractive. With the advertisements subliminally suggesting this, interested customers would see a
benefit in buying a pair.
In the fourth stage of product adoption, trial of CK's new underwear line was probably difficult.
Trying on underwear is not as easy as test driving a car; it's unsanitary. Therefore, heavy
advertisements were created to give the illusion that many people wear CK underwear–especially
the very sexy people that always gets the guy or girl.
Finally, the fifth and sixth stages of product adoption are adoption and confirmation. Adoption is
where the customer actually buys the new good and confirmation is where he or she likes the
product and continues to purchase it (Solomon, pg. 256). Since the beginning, CK's marketing
methods have always been about sex appeal. This goes to show that throughout the times CK's sexy,
barely–clothed model advertisements are adopted and liked by consumers. Consumers from any
generation feed off the idea of being sexy when wearing the brand, and that is what

Klein And Sebarenzi: Holocaust Analysis
Gerda Weissmann Klein and Joseph Sebarenzi both are survivors of genocides that I would not wish
on my greatest enemy. Barely escaping death, both authors spend much of their adolescent years
either escaping from his killers or enslaved by her persecutors. After living through the mass killings
of their people, Klein and Sebarenzi became activists and made sure that this goes unnoticed.
Though each author did not write these memoirs to put themselves as the hero or heroine of the
narrative, both authors meant for their stories to spread awareness of the Holocaust and the genocide
in Rwanda, so this would never happen again. Klein is a survivor of the Holocaust, the systematic,
state–sponsored persecution and murder of six million Jews, as well as homosexuals, gypsies, Slavs,
handicapped, and so many others by the Nazis regime. Now ninety–two years old, she lived through
a genocide that almost whipped more than 30% of the Jewish population in Europe and reduced the
world's Jewish population by a third. Klein was lucky to be assigned to the labor camps. Even with
people dying from malnourishment, being overworked, or because of the death marches, hope saved

This Change Everything By Narrator Klein
How does the capitalist form of economic system catalyze the environmental disaster? And how
does the cooperative action and renewable energy would save the mother earth? The film" This
change everything" narrator Klein explores around the globe to document the struggles of the
ordinary people who are engaging in climate change movement. In each different movement, very
existence of the people is threatened by environmental degradation, throughout film, narrator
provides details answers to these two questions.
According to Klein, embracing the capitalism and the free market for profit making is core factor
that brings environmental disaster around the world. Film Brought one examples from the Greece
economic crisis. When the country was in economic crisis, government decided to provide
permission of mining for private company in order to bring profit. Destruction caused by the mining
company to the environment in Greece is massive. According to Smith on human nature " human
being are, at bottom, self–interested; they posses a natural, fundamental desire for betterment, which
expresses itself in the uniquely human propensity to exchange goods in the search for profit". When
there is opportunity for profits, greedy of the human nature leads to destruction of massive

A Look into Calvin Klein’s Advertisements Essays
A Look into Calvin Klein's Advertisements
As a seductive young man looks into a camera a raspy voice, off camera, whispers, "You got a real
nice look. How old are you? Are you strong? You think you could rip that shirt off? That's a real nice
body. You work out? I can tell." No, it's not straight out of a steamy romance novel, though it could
be. This is just one example of how provocative Calvin Klein's advertisements have been. Although
the ads boosted sales for the Calvin Klein empire, it angered many parents, religious groups, and
even the media over its message, its image, and its legality.
There is no doubt the ads are in bad taste, but in advertising today, sex sells. Advertising is all based

And that their advertising explodes on the media scene."
Calvin Klein eventually dropped the $6 million dollar campaign after the advertisements were
accused of violating child pornography laws. On September 8 the Justice Department began looking
into claims that the ads used young models posed in a provocative manner. A Calvin Klein
spokeswoman stated that only one of the models used in their ads was under the age of 18. The
fifteen–year–old girl that was in his ads was Bijou Phillips, whose mother was aware of the ad and
was proud of her daughter.
If the parents of the teen models allowed their children to pose for the advertisements, who are we to
blame the CK company for using them. Who are we to look down on Calvin Klein's ads when you
can watch any show on prime time TV and see much worse than what the ads portrayed? Who are
we to suggest that the ads are suggestive when all we know is that, in advertising, sex sells and sells
big? Isn't Calvin Klein just giving the public what it wants?
Calvin Klein has publicly stated that the "misunderstood" ads had been intended to "convey the
spirit, independence, and inner worth of today's young people." Personally, I do not really buy that
argument. Is he saying that the teenagers today are always thinking about "it," doing "it," or
discussing "it." But, at the same time, I don't think the public should automatically label him or his
company as "perverts" for using sex to sell

The Influence Of Sex And Advertising In Advertising
Sex has a distinguished place in culture, it is a constant theme and continues to increase as time goes
on. Not only that, but sex has made its mark as an advertising tactic. However, this is not a new
proposition. Sex in advertising emerged many decades ago and continues to claim its place. This
presents a critical question. Does sex as an advertising tool sell? Research shows that sexual appeals
in advertising leaves a negative impression. Sex does not seem to be the optimal selling tactic. On
the other hand, research has also found that sex does, in fact, sell by its stimulating and arousing
effect. There are important factors to examine such as; audience, where sex is implemented, how it
affects brand recall, how advertising works, it's relevancy, and how it is used. Regardless if sex sells
or not, it continues to remain a highlighted concept in advertising and culture.
Sex has been implemented as an advertising tactic for a long time. For example, in the 1910s an ad
from Ivory Soap displayed naked sailors soaped up, waiting for a friend to hose them down (Smith,

regarding this ad, outrage broke out. This brings up the idea that sex does not sell. If sexual ads are

1899, 1901). Freud (1914) suggested that when someone is unable to have memories from
childhood it could be used as a defence shutting off memories. Although I am not attempting to
review the literature I do wish to mention the work of Freud (1893, 1910, 1933) about his written
about the unconscious processes which establishes a link between the physical symptoms of hysteria

could be retrieved through psychoanalysis technics. Freud (1923) suggested that the repression
theory is when certain forces oppose to some ideas to become conscious. In addition, Freud (1900)

What changes in the growth assumptions would rationalize the new Crocs stock price? (Please see
Appendix: Valuation Calculation) The change in the growth assumption has significant impact on
the stock price. Under the high estimate of growth rate 236%, the new price per share is $107.56.
Under the low estimate of growth rate 35%, the new price per share is $2.36. These changes in
prices imply the power of growth rate's assumption over stock price because "It was growth that
drew attention to the brand. It was growth that propelled the stock offering. It was growth that drove
the stock price to ever greater heights." When the growth rate is expected to increase significantly,
value of the firm is increased tremendously and so is its stock price. Both the enterprise value of the
firm and its stock price change in the same direction with the change in growth rate estimates. 4.
What is your opinion of the assumed profit margins? What alternative assumptions would you
consider reasonable? We assume that Net fixed assets as percentage of sales will eventually become
constant at 1%, and revenue growth rate will eventually become constant at 6%, thus the assumed
profit margin will also eventually become constant. It is reasonable to assume that at the beginning
the profit margin increases because Crocs enjoys economics of scale and direct sales

problem in ww2 and also the persecution of Jews, gypsies, gays, and many other people. But I didn

denied any alliances or treaties between Negland and Germany. Instead, Edward formed an alliance
with France. I learned this on page two when William says that he is happy that Edward it dead. Not
everything about this book was good in my opinion. Most books that I read are fictional/fantasy

Gordon Klein Meaning Summary
Klein suggests, "To appreciate fully what is involved in the "normal" meaning of words, we must
first understand several characteristics of words: nature, range of meaning, semantic fields, change
of meaning, and nuances of meaning."1 These five distinctive are significant in properly interpreting
the biblical text; therefore, it is my opinion that "range of meaning" is the most important because
certain words are spell the same, but have different cognitive. Klein conveys, "The "hand" that is a
part of the human body is not at all like the "hand" on a clock, the "hand" held by a card player...In
each case the word remains the same, but the meaning changes."2 Klein also supported Gordon

Connotative is having the authority of implying or suggesting and opinion in addition to what is

the statement, "You dog!" it usually communicates an emotive sense of dis–approval..."dog"
figuratively stands for a person, and it has a connotation it does not have in the use, "Harley is our

a word study is time consuming, yet very rewarding. So, to execute a word properly, Duvall listed
four steps: First, look for words that are crucial to the passage. Everything in the passage depends on
the meaning of these words.6 Second, Look for repeated words. Usually the author will signal theme
words by repeating them. Third, look for figures of speech. Here words are used not in a literal sense
but as word pictures or images. Lastly, look for words that are unclear, puzzling, or difficult...the
most important words are those that give you trouble, and if a word gives you trouble, study it some

Ralph Klein Leadership
Not only will the prime minister have to maintain confidence within the house, they also must
maintain the support from their party. The prime minister must then become more transparent and
accountable to their party because now the MPs collectively have a voice. Debate will be greatly
encouraged within the house and public policy can be more effectively scrutinized as the prime
minister will have to thoroughly plan out his/her actions as a misstep might cost them the support of
their party, and therefore their position (Jarvis and Turnbull, 2012). Without a proper and effective

The reserve powers they are constitutionally able to wield and the grasp they have on their party
gives them little formidable opposition. The prime minister having too much power is a genuine
concern and to help ease the conscious of the public and political figures in the Canadian
government, checks should be instituted to prevent these powers from being abused (Kuzniak,
2010). Leadership reviews are one possible method to help limit party leader and prime ministerial
power. Not one method of governing an entire country like Canada will be perfect, responsible
government is no exception, so making it work as best as possible is the most practical solution.
Clark, Klein, and Horwath, are three party leaders in which a leadership review has proven to be
effective in ensuring that the most suitable party leader is in power and that the party leader will
always remain accountable to the party (Morrow, 2014; Chase, 2013; Harrison, 2013). Although
cases involving ruling prime ministers were not examined, these cases can be easily paralleled
because the party leader that commands the majority of confidence within the House will become
prime minister. There are several other instances in which a leadership review has proven effective
in political parties, though these examples detail its capability quite clearly. The necessary approval
from the party ensures that the party leader will never stray too far away

traumatized by World War II. The cultural center of gravity had moved across the Atlantic to New
York. The artists who remained in Paris, or at least the good ones, were producing post–apocalyptic
work, and out of the same rubble came the much younger Klein.
The abstract painting that dominated French art in the 1950s was invariably premised on the notion
that an artist could communicate with the viewer through the power of ... Show more content on

The three friends divided the universe between themselves: Arman claimed the materiality of the
earth, Pascal appropriated language and words and Klein possessed ''the void''–the planet empty of
all matter. Klein embarked on a realistic–imaginative daydream into the depths of the universe,
where he clamed to have inscribed his name in the sky.
The void enlighten in the sky led Klein to experiment in painting, music and performance. The
Monotone–Silence Symphony from 1949, a piece containing a single chord sustained for twenty
minutes followed by twenty minutes of meditative silence. It symbolized the sound pitch emitted
from the monochrome blue sky, or the void emphasizing universal harmony.
In the period between 1848 and 1952, Klein lived in London and began to assist in London frame

rendered objects, believing the monochromatic surface released the painting from materiality

Melanie Kleinian Theory
Melanie Klein was a truly inspiring psychoanalysis. With no previous education in this field and
being a working mother of three children she "discovered" psychoanalysis. She introduced a new
way of child analysis by introducing play with toys and showed us the importance of the early
stages of a child's development. "Her lack of formal medical training was initially an obstacle to her
professional development, but it was probably another asset in allowing her to develop her own
ideas and thoughts" (Robert Hinshelwood, Susan Robinson and Oscar Zarate, 1999, p. 31). She also
introduced us to depressive and paranoid–schizoid positions and which are still used in
psychoanalysis today. All of this however, came at a cost to Klein; she was in ... Show more content

Introjection is where the external object is transferred to the inside. An example of this would be
when a loved one has died, that person and their traits are part of their identity. These theories are
still used in psychotherapy today.
Paranoid–schizoid position is another Kleinian theory and it is described as 'splitting the self and the
object into the good and bad'. The mothers breast can be seen by a child as opposite in nature at
different times, the good breast (gratifying object) and the bad breast (frustrating object) .The
splitting allows the good object to stay separate from the bad, keeping things a child love apart from
things they don't.
The next phase of this theory 'Depressive position' is a person's ability to handle his or her own
feelings and instincts. Klein thought the feeling of guilt and anxiety determine and defines a person's
physical position. If this issue is not addressed during childhood then the chances of the depressive
position occurring in adulthood is much higher. "Guilt and grief over hateful attacks and over the
damaged state of external and internal objects, varying in level of felt catastrophe on a scale from
normal mourning for loss to severe depression" (Melanie Klein Trust

psychoanalysis and child development there is a resurgence of interest in studying the work of
Melanie Klein. Melanie Klein was a psychoanalyst who devised therapeutic techniques for children
that had great impact on child psychology and contemporary psychoanalysis. She was best known
for play therapy and was a leading innovator in theorizing object relations theory. Melanie Klein

Klein proved herself to be a head strong enduring female. She was a visible iconoclast within a
profession dominated by male physicians and scholars. She was not succumbed by her protégés in
fact she laid her own path. In the time when females were denied an education in which they were
deprived of enrolling in some schools and programs, attending classes or much less entering a
library, even so much as employment outside of the home was sought as rare for women, Melanie
Klein pushed forth. Development of Modern Psychology: Play Therapy
Following World War I, Klein developed the technique of play therapy, which is now used
worldwide. As a substitute of Freud's free association therapy in which the young and children are
incapable, Klein developed the technique of play therapy to uncover children's unconscious
motivations. She believed that children, through the use of play and drawings, projected their
feelings in therapeutic sessions. She hypothesized that the way children played with toys revealed
earlier infantile fantasies and anxieties. Klein's work highlighted that children's unconscious lives
could be understood by analysts through their non–verbal behavior. In the psychoanalysis of
children, she showed how these anxieties affected a child's developing ego, superego and sexuality
to bring about emotional disorders and insecurities. Her methods attempt to relieve children of

Naomi Klein: A Philosophical Analysis
A fierce critic of corporate globalization and corporate capitalism, Naomi Klein has been asked by
Pope Francis to co–lead a high–level conference on the environment. She is secular and radical but
such labels apparently have not disqualified her.
Joining forces with Klein will be Peter Turkson, a Ghanaian professor of climate change economics
and a Catholic cardinal. Turkson has called for a "global public authority" to be created, as well as a
"central world bank" in order to deal with crises. His writings have referred to "the idolatry of the

The Vatican has involved other lay people. The Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki–

implored the pope to use his "moral voice and moral leadership" to speed up action.
Klein also characterized the pope as a "moral voice" on Earth, especially given his position as the
leader of 1.2 billion Catholics. This, she said, puts him in a unique position to foster unity. She said
Pope Francis' encyclical had a "holistic view" and thus "should be a catalyst to bring together the
twin economic and climate crises, instead of treating them separately."

Psychological Perspectives Of Melanie Klein
Psychological Perspectives of Melanie Klein
For centuries now, the idea of psychology and its teachings have been a relevant topic and practice
around the world. Psychology has been used to help humans understand how the brain functions
along with how humans respond in different situations. Though it is almost unrecognizable to man,
psychological teachings and practices occur within many human daily routines. Particularly when a
person hears the word, psychology, he or she might think of someone much older. However, because
human behavior can primarily be observed at birth, this essay will be enlightening the idea of

An Intro to Melanie Klein
On March 30, 1882 in Vienna, Austria, Melanie Reizes, was born to medical doctor, Moriz Reizes,
and shopkeeper, Libussa Reizes ("Klein, Melanie," 2007). She was the wife of Arthur Klein, who
she married in 1903, and the mother of three children, Melitta Klein, Hans Klein, and Eric Klein
("Klein, Melanie"). In her early years, Melanie was introduced to the field of psychoanalysis after
having a sister pass at the age of four, a brother pass when she was twenty, and her mother passing
in 1914 ("Melanie Klein, 2015"). Judging by the number of close loved ones who passed in her

The Theory Of The World
The concept of 'the world' is significant as one's interaction with the world could be either
demanding or perhaps obstructive (Giles, 1982), as an adolescent's interaction with the world are
formed around loss and defeat (Giles, 1982). This idea of defeat and loss can cause much trauma for
the adolescent, resulting in feelings of worthlessness, rejection and loneliness.
The last fold of the triad is 'the future'. Beck (1967) alludes to the idea that a depressed individual's
thoughts about the future embody those of negative experiences (Giles, 1982). This notion can be
seen in the life of adolescents as they may have encountered a previous event in which they have
struggled with, perhaps in early childhood, now directly impacting their performance in every day
life and the future. The concept of the future can be hard to change or alter as the depressed person
may find it hard to look so far ahead or to work for change and improvement. A sense of future
outlooking can put a direct strain on the adolescent, potentially causing suicidal thoughts due to
feelings of hopelessness and a sense of pessimism (Beck, A. T., Weissman, A., Lester, D., & Trexler,
L., 1974). There can be unrealistic perceptions of 'the future' as the individuals may have previously
fixated on the past and the present.
It has only been in recent years that the idea of depression in adolescence has been acknowledged.
Anna Freud is seen as a pioneer in her own right when compared to her father Sigmund

horrifying, always engrossing and colorful" (Higgs). Klein writes:

Aspects Of Object Relations Theory Essay
In this essay I am going to be examining all aspects of Object–Relations Theory. I am also going to
be explaining the shortcomings of this theory. Presenting evidence that proves this theory to be
strong and relevant to adolescent development into adulthood. Object Relations Theory is a theory
that was developed from a therapist client relationship this theory examines the interpersonal
relationships that you have and how they shape you into an adult thinker. (Scharff, D.E. 1992). This
theory reflects the care that the mother had for the infant during the time of adolescences and how
that individual now feels about attachment Scharff, D.E. (1992).This theory shows how the mother
infant relationship is the start of personality development for individuals. Scharff, D.E. (1992). This
theory comes from the late Sigmund Freud, Freud had many theories on development. Going further
into that the sexual development of adolescents into adulthood (Corey, 2015). This theory is very
much so like Freud's past theory. The object relation's theory is one that compares ones separation
and attachment in such a way that, we get to see how an individual's childhood relationships with
love ones could have affected their ability to either form relationships or become detached from
others (Corey 2015). When speaking of childhood family interactions this is a very important part of
development especially when referring to Object relation's theory. Interaction is key when a child is

Complex and it is comprised of the corporations and organizations that see recently shocked areas as

In Naomi Klein's book, The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism, she documents three
different kind of shocks that have been applied: major cataclysmic events, shock therapy, and body
shock. "I am writing a book about shock. About how countries are shocked – by wars, terror attacks,
Coup d'état and natural disasters. And then how they are shocked again – by corporations and
politicians who exploit the fear and disorientation of this first shock to push through economic
shock therapy. And then how people who dare to resist these shock politics are, if necessary,
shocked for a third time – by police, soldiers, and prison interrogations."1 The first kind of shock
refers to very devastating events such as military coups, hyperinflation, floods, earthquakes,
tsunamis, wars, or terrorist attacks. This kind of shock is the most important and has the ability to
cause the highest amount of damage out of all three different types of shock. This is the kind of
shock that opens the door for the Disaster Capitalism Complex so it has room to make all the
changes that it needs so it can grow its power and wealth. Some examples of such events are
hurricane Katrina's effects in New Orleans, 9/11, the 2004 Tsunami in Sri Lanka, and Augusto
Pinochet's military coup against the Chilean government in 1973.

Critical Analysis Of Naomi Klein's 'No Logo'
In article 'No Logo' Naomi Klein talks about closing down manufacture plants and the techniques
that big companies use to maximise their profit. She makes several important points, which show us
the reason why this is happening and what effects it has on people. The article shares her arguments
and analysis of the situation, and this review will look at and evaluate them. The article was written
in 2002 in New York, and the location is not accidental because in North America alone, Levi
Strauss closed twenty–two plants leaving 13,000 people unemployed. "shut down twenty–two plants
and lay off 13,000 North American workers between November 1997 and February 1999" (Klein,
N., (2002) No Logo). The main purpose of this article is to raise awareness and inform about
exploitation of people as cheap workforce in factories by big companies, who found a way of doing
it without the risk of being sued and closed down. This allows them to spend minimal amount of
money on product manufacture, resulting in maximum profit, therefore more money can be spent on
advertising to build stronger brand image. Manufacture cost and process is not as important as brand
image, because "product is something that is made in factory; a brand is something that is bought by

Comparing Levitt And Naomi Klein
In this week readings, both authors demonstrate their views on the purpose and the methods of
marketing. Marketing is an act used to promote and sell goods or services. Both Theodore Levitt and
Naomi Klein do an exceptional job at presenting two separate claims that outline their views on
marketing and the success of a business. In "Marketing Myopia" by Levitt, the author believes that a
corporation is successful because of mass production and not because of marketing. Though he
states that industries are product oriented and not customer oriented, he believes that companies
should not heavily lean towards mass production, instead the plan of production should reflect the
needs of the consumers. In other words, they should focus on the customers, not the product. To

to publicize all of its factories and also to allow independent inspection to every working conditions
there . Furthermore, it has also been suggested that Nike should make public all its audit. A lot of
focus is given to wage rates paid by the company's suppliers. "By and large, audits have found that
wage rates are above the national legal minimum, but critics contend that this does not actually
constitute a fair living wage.
However, Nike has responded to Naomi Klein accusation by accusing her of peddling inaccurate
and outdated information. Furthermore, Nike pointed out that they have not abandoned countries as
claimed by Naomi Klein . And remain in Taiwan and Korea despite the higher wages and labor
rights. Nike further admitted that with regards to the 1996 photo documented in Pakistan, it was a

Case Study Assignment: Calvin Klein vs. Warnaco Group Inc.
On May 30, 2000 The Calvin Klein family filed a lawsuit against Warnaco Group Inc for eighteen
counts of trademark infringement, trademark dilution and intentional misrepresentation. Nearly a
month later Warnaco answered with a counter suit, denying the major allegations and justifying the
dilution to falling within the scope of the two parities licensing agreement. The case study brings
forth information regarding fashion retailing, distribution practices and even the licensing practices
expected within the marketplace, however as a reader one should keep in mind that during the
millennium "licensing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This mutual understanding is what was portrayed within an agreement between the two parties and
what worked toward success over the next forty years. This case study touches on many topics
within licensing but the three most dominant aspects within the Warnaco Group vs. Calvin Klein
suit are the agreements and understandings discussed with a contract, the rights to a trademark and
the rights of both the licensor and the licensee. While briefing this case study one can not help but
notice, stated on page 21, the agreements that are displayed in exhibit 1: Excerpts from Calvin Klein
Jeanswear Licensing Agreement. Here it is clear that the agreement, signed by BOTH parties, states
that Warnaco agrees to maximize the quantity of Articles sold, and will be consistent with CKI's past
practices. One can assume, that due to the prolonged history between the two parties this includes
Costco, Sam's Club and BJs store, which alone were held responsible for 150 million dollars in
warehouse sales, just one year prior to the filing of the lawsuit. It is also important to point out that
this licensing agreement is not with CKI as the owner, it is in fact a licensing agreement with the CK
Trademark Trust being the beneficial owner to ALL rights, titles and interest in or to the Licensed
Mark. The licensing agreement then continues to state that "Warnaco controls any such act or thing
which may cause any affect to the Trust." With the understanding of licensing,

A Disaster Avoided By Naomi Klein
A Disaster Avoided
One day while traveling on the Hyperloop home from work, I found myself looking out upon the
Californian countryside and thinking about the climate data I was poring over at work. It indicated
that in 2015 the earth was heading in a spiral of destruction due to climate change and I found
myself imaging how I would be looking at an arid desert right now if not for the intervention of both
politicians and citizens. This subject piqued my interest and I decided to do a bit of follow–up
research on the subject. I quickly found evidence that policy makers in 2015 read Naomi Klein's
This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. The Climate as well as other environmental texts and took
the key lessons to heart. As I began this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Kevin Anderson – Delivering on 2°C: evolution or revolution?, video) The subsequent melting of
ice at the poles would have created a domino effect in which the water in the oceans would heat and
cause more turbulent weather. This change in weather systems would have been felt globally as
many environments would have completely shifted many becoming dry, arid regions absolutely
vacant of life. At low latitudes, 4°C would result in reductions of around 30–40 percent in the yields
of important staple crops such as corn and rice, at the same time as the population heads towards 9
billion by 2050. (Climate change going beyond dangerous, pg. 16–39)
In 2015, the carbon dioxide level in the atmosphere reached over 400 parts per million (ppm) for the
first time in human history. This was recorded setting and spurred policymakers to do research
themselves and read about climate change rather than just listen to industry reports and forecasts.
After reading This Changes Everything, policymakers understood that the amount of carbon had to
be drastically reduced in order to preserve the earth for future generations. One way to do so was to
get off of fossil fuels, such as coal and oil, and get off them fast because the time to take action was
quickly running out. The burning of these fuels releases carbon dioxide along with many other
hydrocarbons into the atmosphere, where in turn, they trap heat trying to leave our atmosphere. The

  • 1. Louis Klein The National Gallery of art in Washington D.C. is pleased to announce that they will be hosting a restaging of pieces by Yves Klein along with a reenactment of Anthropometries, a performance piece that debuted in the International Gallery of Contemporary Art in 1947. The gallery is set to feature a wide range of Klein's pieces including Monochrome Blue, various performance pieces, and select experimental pieces from the end of his career. The wide array of pieces showcased guarantees enjoyment for enthusiasts of all kinds. The above is set to be unveiled on April 28th, 53 years to date after Klein's death; we will memorialize him not only in his paintings but with his performance art as well. The exhibit is designed to walk the spectator ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In typical fashion, some of Klein's newly gained notoriety went to his head and in turn, shined through his works of art. For example, in his article "True Blue" featured in The New Yorker, Peter Schjeldahl mentioned that "Still, some quality of ego–transcending devotion persists through all Klein's work." Klein is very confident and fearless even when the work its not complex and leans toward minimalist. After several months of exhibitions he makes a shift in his style of art that has become known as his "Blue Period" (January 1957). Blue Monochrome was his first real success. It's notoriety came with a show based around his new color in question, "International Klein Blue". What makes his new color interesting is that he actually created with the help of a chemist. Monochrome Blue has no trace of line or imagery, it simply surrounds the viewer in color, provoking meditation and deep thought. This notion of meditation and deep thought may be a reference to the sky, the Holy Ghost, or even Mary's robe which was often depicted as vibrant blue in Renaissance paintings. The idea to reference art history was a very contemporary and post modern idea showing him ahead of the times. • 3. Summary Of No Logo By Naomi Klein Naomi Klein in her book No Logo outlines her thoughts as to how marketing and advertising by a company has made a dramatic shift from showcasing a product, to the branding of the company name. Companies have now shifted their focus to creating an association between the company and an idea. The company then uses this idea to sell their products. In her book she also addresses the growing massive globalization of corporations into global Goliaths. She makes the claim that such large corporations may even be considered form of multinational government. Klein states that these huge corporations are squeezing out the competition and creating less competition to compete with within the markets, and less of a fight to attract consumers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the book Klein fears that the brands have allowed the companies to become too powerful and there is no counterbalance to their power. These super–corporations are allowed to act at will and often are stepping all other smaller corporations as well as within the countries these corporations operate in. Her arguments are very much in line with the anti–globalization movement that is gaining popularity in the world. The brands of companies have become so powerful and insidious that they are almost impossible to escape. Our culture has surrendered to the idea of the brand. Brands now dominate our society and even have crept into our education systems. Klein says in her book, "...this corporate obsession with brand identity is waging a war on public and individual space: on public institutions such as schools, on youthful identities, on the concept of nationality and on the possibilities for unmarketed space." (5) Coke and Pepsi have bidding wars over the rights to have their vending machines in schools. College and university sports arenas are plastered with advertisements, or even named after a corporation, like the Taco Bell Pavilion in Boise. "There are certain corporations which market themselves so aggressively, which are so intent on stamping their image on everybody and every street, that they build up a reservoir of ... Calvin Klein Essay Neera Bann Professor Hamilton FSHD 1311 October, 7th 2012 Calvin Klein An American Designer By Neera Bann Calvin Richard Klein was born and raised in New York City's borough of the Bronx. He decided he wanted to be a fashion designer at an early age, most probably as a result of the influence of his grandmother. Leo and Flora Klein were his parents. They both worked in the grocery business. Flora's mother, Molly Stern was an accomplished seamstress. She operated a notions shop and tailoring business where Calvin spent a lot of time as a child. He typically uses neutral colors or earth tones and designs separates that work in many different ensembles, from day to night and season to season. At the same time his advertising for jeans and fragrances was being criticized, Calvin Klein clothing was receiving critical acclaim for its clean, modern lines. (Gaines) Time magazine named Klein one of the twenty–five most influential Americans in 1996. Klein won the prestigious Coty Award three times in a row (1973–1975), becoming the youngest designer to ever have that honor. In 1982, 1983, and 1986 he also captured the Council of Fashion Designers of America Award. In addition Klein built a financially strong company with the continued advice and help of partner Barry Schwartz, who guided the company through tough financial times in the late 1980s. Few designers have rivaled his worldwide empire. (Gaines) In late 2002, Calvin Klein, Inc. caught the eye of Phillips–Van Heusen Corporation (PVH), a company looking to acquire a major brand. As the largest shirt maker in the United States, PVH owned the Van Heusen, IZOD, and G.H Bass brands and had licensing agreements with Geoffrey Beene, Arrow, DKNY, and Kenneth Cole. Under the leadership of CEO Bruce Klatsky, PVH made a play for Calvin Klein and eventually won the battle. Under the terms of the deal, Klein ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Calvin Klein Calvin Klein Assignment When people think of Calvin Klein majority will probably have an automatic image of a half–naked chiseled male model with his jeans unbuttoned. This "natural response," so to speak, is due to CK's great effort in connecting sex appeal with its product. CK took a bold, marketing chance with sex appeal and benefited from selling it to the point of controversy. To market sex appeal to customers, who are mainly in their prime time such as 20–40 year–olds, CK had to understand product concepts and product adoption levels. The following composition will explain such concepts and levels, in addition to explaining how the brand developed over time. The infamous cliché "Sex Sells" does not fall short to CK's ... CK's advertisements and models suggest that by wearing CK underwear it will give the wearer confidence to be sexy and attractive. With the advertisements subliminally suggesting this, interested customers would see a benefit in buying a pair. In the fourth stage of product adoption, trial of CK's new underwear line was probably difficult. Trying on underwear is not as easy as test driving a car; it's unsanitary. Therefore, heavy advertisements were created to give the illusion that many people wear CK underwear–especially the very sexy people that always gets the guy or girl. Finally, the fifth and sixth stages of product adoption are adoption and confirmation. Adoption is where the customer actually buys the new good and confirmation is where he or she likes the product and continues to purchase it (Solomon, pg. 256). Since the beginning, CK's marketing methods have always been about sex appeal. This goes to show that throughout the times CK's sexy, barely–clothed model advertisements are adopted and liked by consumers. Consumers from any generation feed off the idea of being sexy when wearing the brand, and that is what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Barely escaping death, both authors spend much of their adolescent years either escaping from his killers or enslaved by her persecutors. After living through the mass killings of their people, Klein and Sebarenzi became activists and made sure that this goes unnoticed. Though each author did not write these memoirs to put themselves as the hero or heroine of the narrative, both authors meant for their stories to spread awareness of the Holocaust and the genocide in Rwanda, so this would never happen again. Klein is a survivor of the Holocaust, the systematic, state–sponsored persecution and murder of six million Jews, as well as homosexuals, gypsies, Slavs, handicapped, and so many others by the Nazis regime. Now ninety–two years old, she lived through a genocide that almost whipped more than 30% of the Jewish population in Europe and reduced the world's Jewish population by a third. A Look into Calvin Klein’s Advertisements Essays A Look into Calvin Klein's Advertisements As a seductive young man looks into a camera a raspy voice, off camera, whispers, "You got a real nice look. How old are you? Are you strong? You think you could rip that shirt off? That's a real nice body. You work out? I can tell." No, it's not straight out of a steamy romance novel, though it could be. This is just one example of how provocative Calvin Klein's advertisements have been. These changes in prices imply the power of growth rate's assumption over stock price because "It was growth that drew attention to the brand. It was growth that propelled the stock offering. It was growth that drove the stock price to ever greater heights." When the growth rate is expected to increase significantly, value of the firm is increased tremendously and so is its stock price. Klein conveys, "The "hand" that is a part of the human body is not at all like the "hand" on a clock, the "hand" held by a card player...In each case the word remains the same, but the meaning changes."2 Klein also supported Gordon Fee's premise which stated, "The aim of word study is to ... With no previous education in this field and being a working mother of three children she "discovered" psychoanalysis. The mothers breast can be seen by a child as opposite in nature at different times, the good breast (gratifying object) and the bad breast (frustrating object) .The splitting allows the good object to stay separate from the bad, keeping things a child love apart from things they don't. The next phase of this theory 'Depressive position' is a person's ability to handle his or her own feelings and instincts. The Vatican has involved other lay people. The Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki– moon, presented a keynote address in April at a Vatican summit on poverty and climate change. He implored the pope to use his "moral voice and moral leadership" to speed up action. Klein also characterized the pope as a "moral voice" on Earth, especially given his position as the leader of 1.2 billion Catholics. This, she said, puts him in a unique position to foster unity. She said Pope Francis' encyclical had a "holistic view" and thus "should be a catalyst to bring together the twin economic and climate crises, instead of treating them separately." As soon as they saw their dad, they started barraging him with questions. They were always interested in maths because of their father's occupation. The eldest son started first, "Why did we ditch the fifth axiom? Why did Tupper make an equation and not ware? How do you win a guessing game? Whats a hyperbolic sport? Why is 82,000 extraordinary? When is Cheryl's birthday? How do you make a klein bottle? Have you ever hunted for the elusive fourth klein bottle? What's your favorite number? Do numbers have free will?" At the exact same time, the younger son was firing, "Are you a platonist, nominalist, or fictionalist? Is there an infinitesimal Monad? How many chess games are possible? What's the world's new biggest prime number? How did they find it? What's the mathematics of terrorism and crime? Are you really sick? Are dice fair? What's a super bottle? Was my vote counted with homomorphic encryption? What happens if you stand inside a spherical mirror?" The two had been away from him for too long and had built quite an extensive list of valid questions that David felt was his fatherly responsibility to answer. Psychological Perspectives Of Melanie Klein Psychological Perspectives of Melanie Klein For centuries now, the idea of psychology and its teachings have been a relevant topic and practice around the world. Psychology has been used to help humans understand how the brain functions along with how humans respond in different situations. Though it is almost unrecognizable to man, psychological teachings and practices occur within many human daily routines. Particularly when a person hears the word, psychology, he or she might think of someone much older. However, because human behavior can primarily be observed at birth, this essay will be enlightening the idea of pediatric psychology. • 49. The Theory Of The World The concept of 'the world' is significant as one's interaction with the world could be either demanding or perhaps obstructive (Giles, 1982), as an adolescent's interaction with the world are formed around loss and defeat (Giles, 1982). This idea of defeat and loss can cause much trauma for the adolescent, resulting in feelings of worthlessness, rejection and loneliness. The last fold of the triad is 'the future'. Beck (1967) alludes to the idea that a depressed individual's thoughts about the future embody those of negative experiences (Giles, 1982). This notion can be seen in the life of adolescents as they may have encountered a previous event in which they have struggled with, perhaps in early childhood, now directly impacting their performance in every day life and the future. The concept of the future can be hard to change or alter as the depressed person may find it hard to look so far ahead or to work for change and improvement. A sense of future outlooking can put a direct strain on the adolescent, potentially causing suicidal thoughts due to feelings of hopelessness and a sense of pessimism (Beck, A. T., Weissman, A., Lester, D., & Trexler, L., 1974). There can be unrealistic perceptions of 'the future' as the individuals may have previously fixated on the past and the present. It has only been in recent years that the idea of depression in adolescence has been acknowledged. Anna Freud is seen as a pioneer in her own right when compared to her father Sigmund ... Presenting evidence that proves this theory to be strong and relevant to adolescent development into adulthood. Object Relations Theory is a theory that was developed from a therapist client relationship this theory examines the interpersonal relationships that you have and how they shape you into an adult thinker. (Scharff, D.E. 1992). This theory reflects the care that the mother had for the infant during the time of adolescences and how that individual now feels about attachment Scharff, D.E. (1992).This theory shows how the mother infant relationship is the start of personality development for individuals. Scharff, D.E. (1992). This theory comes from the late Sigmund Freud, Freud had many theories on development. Going further into that the sexual development of adolescents into adulthood (Corey, 2015). This theory is very much so like Freud's past theory. The object relation's theory is one that compares ones separation and attachment in such a way that, we get to see how an individual's childhood relationships with love ones could have affected their ability to either form relationships or become detached from others (Corey 2015). In Naomi Klein's book, The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism, she documents three different kind of shocks that have been applied: major cataclysmic events, shock therapy, and body shock. "I am writing a book about shock. About how countries are shocked – by wars, terror attacks, Coup d'état and natural disasters. And then how they are shocked again – by corporations and politicians who exploit the fear and disorientation of this first shock to push through economic shock therapy. And then how people who dare to resist these shock politics are, if necessary, shocked for a third time – by police, soldiers, and prison interrogations."1 The first kind of shock refers to very devastating events such as military coups, hyperinflation, floods, earthquakes, tsunamis, wars, or terrorist attacks. This kind of shock is the most important and has the ability to cause the highest amount of damage out of all three different types of shock. This is the kind of shock that opens the door for the Disaster Capitalism Complex so it has room to make all the changes that it needs so it can grow its power and wealth. With no previous education in this field and being a working mother of three children she "discovered" psychoanalysis after reading 'Interpretation of dreams' by Sigmund Freud. "Her discovery that a child's play could be used as the equivalent of an adults 'free association' – a means of gaining access to the unconscious modes of thought" (Juliet Mitchell, 1987 p. 35). He was so impressed with her work that he gave her the role of clinical assistant at the association of child research. Klein worked very hard there and in 1919 she submitted a paper about child development and schooling to the Hungarian Psycho–Analytical Society and was admitted as psychoanalysis because of this. She makes several important points, which show us the reason why this is happening and what effects it has on people. The article shares her arguments and analysis of the situation, and this review will look at and evaluate them. The article was written in 2002 in New York, and the location is not accidental because in North America alone, Levi Strauss closed twenty–two plants leaving 13,000 people unemployed. "shut down twenty–two plants and lay off 13,000 North American workers between November 1997 and February 1999" (Klein, N., (2002) No Logo). The main purpose of this article is to raise awareness and inform about exploitation of people as cheap workforce in factories by big companies, who found a way of doing it without the risk of being sued and closed down. This allows them to spend minimal amount of money on product manufacture, resulting in maximum profit, therefore more money can be spent on advertising to build stronger brand image. Manufacture cost and process is not as important as brand image, because "product is something that is made in factory; a brand is something that is bought by a customer" (Klein, N., (2002) No Logo.) Marketing is an act used to promote and sell goods or services. In "Marketing Myopia" by Levitt, the author believes that a corporation is successful because of mass production and not because of marketing.
