Achieving Student Success
Review the following steps, which outline simple changes you can make and soon you'll be on your way to becoming the student you've always wanted
to become.
1. Set goals– If you set concrete goals for yourself, it's easier to become motivated and measure your success in those goals. Make sure your goals are
realistic! While you should challenge your–self, you shouldn't set yourself up for failure, either. Remember: you can always set higher goals once
you've achieved your first set.
2. Adopt and stick to an study schedule– Scheduling is vital to maintaining a healthy learning balance and keeping up with rigorous courses.
3. Stay well–rested– If you're awake and alert, your certainly more likely to absorb information given in class, during study sessions and in class ...

Develop, note–taking skills– Listening and taking notes actively during class not only ensures the recording of accurate information but also reinforces
the info through recording the information as you take it in. It's helpful to gopher your note after class and either rewrite them or outline the key
information while it's still fresh in your mind. It also provides you with any important information that was only mentioned in class when it comes time
to review and study the exam material.
7. Study buddy's– Collaborating with other students is a great way to learn. Students who form study groups with one another can often learn more
through learning by teaching. When students explain concepts to one another, they are able to Learn and absorb the information more easily. Inversely,
students that may need clarification on areas of study are able to ask peers in order to be able to better understand the course materials.
8. Take advantage of school resources– School resources are abundant and students who take advantage of such resources are much more likely to
succeed. Such resources include the utilization of school libraries, career centers and school centers that provide tutoring and

Technology Changes In America
Technology was the highlight of every 7th graders day last year. Technology was interesting and fun and always taught us something new. We as a class
were constantly doing new activities on the computers, but all that changed this year. Technology was replaced with a special class named Math lab. At
first most of our class knew what to think of what this new special would be. Yet after the first class it was obvious what Math Lab was. Math lab was a
boring, repetitive, strict class that only minorly strengthens skills in Math that most of both classes already knew. If we do not bring back technology
instead of math lab we may not be able to learn computer skills that are needed in High School.
If Technology does not come back instead of Math lab we and future 8th graders may not know skills on the computer needed for high school. When
our class enters high school, with technology as a class gone, we will not know how to use important programs such as PowerPoint or Microsoft Word.
Knoxville Catholic, Farragut High school, and Lenoir City high school have a computers technology class. They have no Math Lab or computers math
class. So what then is the point of having a class that does not exist in the later grades? If middle school is serving the purpose of preparing us for high
school then shouldn't we mimic the high schools? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Every day at the last class is Math. And still we have Math class every day. Saying that Math Lab will improve our understanding and knowledge of
Math, and improve our GPA on Math scores simply isn't true. 1 class every week on a subject we have every day will not solve anything! Furthermore
the work that we do in Math lab is the opposite of motivating. The work that remembers is repetitive and boring, makes students not want to study!
Math class should be for

Arguments Against Standardized Testing
Stressful standardized testing turns many classrooms into training centers instead of offering an engaging, well–rounded, preparatory environment.
Long lectures and teachers preaching causes students to grow bored and dose off ultimately dropping test scores. Students feel like they are nothing
more than their test scores, and feel a sense of not knowing who they are. These standardized tests also lead to anxiety and depression in students, and
can lead to students feeling like dropping out is the only option. No, standardized testing should not be eliminated completely, but rather be evaluated
by universities as well as things such as volunteer hours, extracurricular activities, and grades. "The Essential of a Good Education," written by Diane
Ravitch, states this very clearly. In this aricle: she critizues the education system in America today. Standardized tests are frequently used to asses a
student's academic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead of students studying for tests all year long, students just cram for the test when the date is near. According to eCampusTours, "Standardized
testing impedes the assessment of a very important skill. For the most part, standardized tests hinder any sort of creative and out of the box thinking,
which is a skill needed in college and the workplace." Standardized teststing makes it so that instead of creative learning druing school, students just
learn the information that is going to be presrnted on the test and nothing more. Having a positive enviorment for studnents to express themselves and
their creativity helps them prepare for the future. In the article "The Essentials to a Good Education," Ravitch writes that, "They[schools] should
broaden their knowledge of the world so that they recognize that other people think differently; by doing so, they may abandon narrow provincialism
and get a clearer unddrstanding of other cultures" (Ravitch

Should Schools Be More Breaks Throughout The Day?
64% of students get stressed and overwhelmed by such long classes or too much work. Schools should make more breaks throughout the day because
students get stressed, it will give your brain a break, and it won't overwork the students.
For example, many students get frustrated or stressed during some classes. It may be one of their weak subjects that they are struggling in, or they
might not be interested in what they are learning. Most of the time, students get frustrated because they don't understand something. The teachers
always want to help, but the other students might have questions also. When students get overwhelmed, it makes them not want to try or come to
school.
Another reason why I think there should be more breaks during the

An Persuasive Essay On Homework In School
A student is sitting in his seat during 9th period and the second bell rings. The student can't even think right with the amount of homework assigned to
him. The teacher starts the lesson and that's when the teacher is not able to catch the student's attention. The student stares up in the air and looks at
ceiling. He is listing every single piece of homework he has and quizzes and tests that week. That's when the teacher finds this kid talking to himself. "I
have 3 tests, math homework, italian homework, literacy homework, and science homework!!" The student talks to himself.
"Hey, stop staring off in space and listen to the lesson!" The teacher exclaimed in a nasty tone. The bell rings and the kid finally gets home.
"Go do your homework!" The kids mom stated. The student runs to his room and locks the door so he doesn't get distracted. An hour passes by and he
has done nothing. His mom unlocks his door and checks up on what he has done. She figures out he's asleep and has done nothing. She deviously takes
his phone and he doesn't know.
Two hours later he wakes up and his mom gets enraged and flips out on him. It is currently 8:00pm and he has done none of his homework. He starts
his homework and doesn't finish until 10:30 pm and still has to study for three tests.
The next day he wakes up and starts the day off my getting up late and almost missing the bus. He gets to school and starting off 1st period he has a

Standardized Testing In America
Standardized Testing: Declining the Education in America.
Every year, millions of students take long standardized tests, but do they improve the education of American students? In 2000, the US ranked 18th in
mathematics worldwide. By 2012, the US dropped to 27th, with similar results in the remaining subjects. After passing the "No Child Left Behind" Act
of 2001, the lives of thousands were academically changed. NCLB's Mission Statement reads: "Our mission is to promote student achievement and
preparation for global competitiveness by fostering educational excellence and ensuring equal access." Standardized testing is declining the education

They cram their brains then forget it all after the test. School systems have become accustomed to the "Drill n' Kill" method. A University of Maryland
study from 2007 found many teacher felt they needed to "teach to the test". NCLB instilled this practice due to the decreased amount of time available
for teaching and the increased amount of higher–order thinking involved in each test. As Benjamin Franklin wisely stated, "Tell me and I forget, teach
me and I remember, involve me and I learn." If teachers are being told to repeat information students may remember some of it, but will most defiantly
have more success being taught in an environment conducive to long term memory. This may be possible for some counties, but the tests have
constantly increased the material and rigor each year leaving no time but for repetition from student to teacher. Some students have even found they
don't even get the correct answers from the test and never "fully" learn the

Compare Modern Education In China With The Educational...
1. Compare modern education in China with the educational system prior to 1911. What are the key similarities and differences between the two?
There have been a lot of educational reforms over the years in which it can be traced as far back as far as the Shang Dynasty. Education is necessary as
it lead to wealth and success, so it was and still is important to the Chinese people, in the past and now. Which is a similarity, education has always been
valued by the people. There was a plan to reform to increase public education and rebuild the society. In 1911, the difference was that the government
was completely forsaken towards the traditional way of education. Historically, there was a pattern to divide china and the educational system between
private and official, in which there was a purpose to train students to be better.
2. Using Zhang Yimou's film Not One Less, identify challenges that a migrant from the country to the city might encounter.
One challenge would be that since it is such a long journey and there isn't a lot of money for transportation, it typically takes around a month for a
migrant to go to the city. They need to find someone to take care of their jobs or other needs that need to be taken care of while they are gone. In the
case of the video, the teacher had to find a young girl to teach the class while he was gone. She was inexperienced and didn't have very many talents of
her own.
Another challenge that they would have is that they would be very unfamiliar with the city lifestyle. When the young girl reaches the city she looks to
be intrigued with how much is going on compared to what she had in her village. Also, everything in the city is more expensive for them coming from
poverty.
3. Identify three challenges faced by rural schools in China. Discuss three realistic ways that these problems might be overcome.
There are a lot of challenges that students and teachers have to face in rural schools in China. Teachers are very hard to find because a lot of them are
not educated. Overtime this can be solved as more children are going to school and are getting an education. Since education is very hard to get, it can
be very expensive. And unfortunately, the poverty rate is very

Third Grade : My Most Memorable School Years Of My Life
Fourth grade, one of my most memorable school years of my life, it was there where I changed my study habits and made an important life decision. I
stopped applying myself in school and I decided to never be like my mother, to never have a job that would take me away from my family. Elementary
was the same as everyone, the best of times of my life, school wasn't much of a bother, I had no worries and lunch was the best. When it was time for
me to even start, my family moved twice that year , so when I actually started I went in with my brother and it was with him that I noticed a difference
between his ability to learn and mine. He always struggled with school, but I always found school work easier and hardly ever had difficulty. I recall in
first grade my teacher would read these series of books called Junie B. Jones and wow, how I was hooked, the whole class would beg her to read more
and more. Once I went to second grade I, like other students would continue reading the Junie B. Jones series but little by little I noticed that fewer and
fewer kids would read. I can't be for certain if it was all the books I would read, but whenever I had a vocabulary test I would remember them and never
had a quick review right before the quiz, the point is I was good at school and my teachers could tell. Call me a narcissist, but I loved teacher
conference because my teachers would always talk so highly of me and I could've never help it a smile would always come across my face no

Descriptive Essay On Home Away From Home
Home Away From Home
We wish you a merry Christmas, we wish you a merry Christmas, we wish you a merry Christmas, and a happy New Year...Hymns of the song, the
tinkling sound of the bells, the sweet aroma of the marshmallows floating on the brewed hot chocolate, and the maple wood scented candlelight burning
slightly as it's twitching from side to side creating a warm atmosphere. However, among this delightful setting stands a girl with medium length black
hair in front of the class as she stands still in awe, speculating about the unfamiliar environment. Before her eyes, the people attracted her attention. She
was standing before these people she's never been around before, and there are people she's only seen in movies, particularly Home Alone, Shaolin
Soccer, and Miss Congeniality.
People peer into each other's eyes as they pinpoint a peculiar face standing in front of the rows. She is dressed in long denim pants, a white tee with
long sleeves, a pair of black old–fashioned platform shoes, and a greyish backpack hung low on her back. On one of her elbows, she carries a light pink
and white jacket, nervously holding tightly onto her wrist of the opposite hand. Abruptly, all students stand and line up near the door, which opens up to
a cheerful adult in her early thirties wearing a white, fuzz–lined red hat with a fluffy cotton ball at the tip. After mingling with her students, she leads us
through the hallways into another room, filled with small desks and backpacks lying underneath. The adult approaches me with a warm smile, taking
my hand into an embrace as she asks for my name. A slight nervousness reaches me, and I answer her question quietly. Then, she leads me to a desk
and comes with a folder of papers, including a rectangular transparent pocket where my name is spelled inside on a white piece of paper. My name was
one of the few words I recognized in this foreign language.
I looked around subtly, noticing people of many different races interacting in joy, but my own heart yearned for home. Home, where people woke early
at the break of dawn, moving from place to place with their bikes, motorcycles, and rickshaws. Elders walked on the sidewalks chewing paan leaf like
gum, which slightly

The Importance Of Education In Education
The United States of America is nowhere near being one of the most educated countries in the world. "The U.S. ranks No. 18 in perceptions of an
educated population, just above South Korea and behind Italy" (https://www.usnews.com/news/best–countries/articles/2017–08–25/most–educated–
countries–according–to–perception). There is no single solution that can cure the education system without causing other problems in the students and
teachers lives. However, if the US were to have year round school, they would have more rigor to learn, and wouldn't be behind other countries.
"During the first Algebra II test that fall, the girl sitting next to her complained that she didn't understand one of the problems. Jenny had answered it
quickly, probably because shed learned the material two years earlier." "Right there in front of everyone he walked her through the solution ––– during
the test." (SKITW). The US spends a lot more time on one subject than other countries that spend a lot less time, making it almost impossible for
american students to compete at other countries' level. So, America's students are way further behind other students. I was never allowed to take honors
classes for math, even though I was getting almost a perfect score on all of the tests we did. Every year I would go to math class learning the same thing
we did the year before. So, when I got to higher math classes, I didn't know what all the other kids knew, because they took honors classes. I had to

Cram Schools Can´t Substitute for the Official Schools
It is becoming increasingly common nowadays in China that students go to cram
schools frequently instead of attending the official school every time when some important
examinations are coming. This phenomenon happens a lot around me. Many good
friends of mine, no matter whether they are good at studying or not, will chose to go to cram schools for
further study. Their goals are to triumph over challenges and difficulties in study and make
higher marks. However, to my surprise, having spent a lot of time and money, they made
lower marks sometimes. They study very hard every time in cram schools, nevertheless,
they feel worn out and always gain results, which are not satisfying. And what is also
unfortunate is that their endeavors are in vain. How ridiculous it is! Cram schools should
be to blame for this.
Attending cram schools too much does harm to a student's academic achievement
because of its high pressure, high costs, endless boring homework,as well as the students'
lacking creativities and flexibilities.
Firstly, cram school gives its students high pressure. Students who attend cram
schools are supposed to study after study; also, they are expected to study against time in
order to get higher grades. They're asked by the teachers to strive hard to excel in every
examination, which leaves them no spare time to develop their hobbies. According to an
article called China's Cram School from Hell (Rachel Lu, 2013), a cram

Five Week Vs Four Day Week
Most kids would go for a four day week. A four day week may be cheaper, but most things are rushed on a four day week. There are many
disadvantages to a four day week compared to a five day week.
The disadvantages of a four day week is spending longer in school. Schools that do a four day week add up class time. Certain schools could start at
seven to three! Many kids don't have much time to work because you'd have to cram so much work in four days and some kids are very busy with too
much homework or particular events.
The advantages for a five day week would be more time for school work. Students will have an extra day to work and study. The students even have

Diction In Ralph Waldo Emerson's Education
Emerson from "Education" is trying to spread his message that the current school education is not in the perfect shape but rather in a broken state.
Because of the problem, the students are not able to learn as well. Emerson gets his message out by using diction to strengthen his position and
Emerson also appeals to pathos. In "Education", Emerson uses diction as a way to keep audiences engaged in what he is trying to argue. Emerson uses
the words "drill" and "labor" to create a hostile tone which enhances his message that the school system is broken (Emerson). The word "drill" in this
context is used as an aggressive move. The author uses the word drill instead of teaches because the word drill makes the school seem like they are

Personal Narrative: My Experience At Rollins College
Visiting the campus of Rollins College for the first time can leave a memorable impression on a person. Every corner of the campus is literally built
with valuable memories dating back generations upon generations. Speaking from personal experience, looking around and taking in all of what the
college has to offer has left a lingering impression. As a fairly new student, I am amazed as to how much I have yet to discover, explore and learn about
my new college. The first time I set foot at Rollins was when I went through the student orientation. Yes, it was a long session filled with an overload of
information in one afternoon. However, the orientation redeemed itself to become interesting when the coordinator, Dr. Kenyon, took the whole group
into the Knowles Memorial Chapel. It was at this time that the weather had turned from sunny and warm to dark and gloomy from the oncoming
afternoon storm. Although instead of making it an abhorrent experience due to the rain, the weather actually set a rather compelling atmosphere to take

Summary Of The Dangerous Myths Of Grade Inflation
When it comes to the issues of education and the many different opinions on how education should be ran; the finger always seems to be pointed at the
students. It is the students fault that grade inflation exists. It is the students fault that there is a lack of effort in the classroom. Think about it though, are
the flaws that occur in education really our fault? Maybe, maybe not. It is important that everyone (educators, students, parents, and administrators),
understand both sides to what is really going on and the issues occurring in the academe world. An ongoing issue in the classroom is the students lack
of effort. Both teachers and parents often complain about students being rather torpid. Is this really the students fault? Is it even the teacher's fault? On

Does grade inflation actually exist? In the reading "The Dangerous Myths of Grade Inflation" by Alfie Kohn, he gives plenty examples as to why grade
inflation does not exist, Kohn also backs up his examples with studies that have shown that there is no way to prove grade inflation exists. "However,
even where grades are higher now as compared with then, that does not constitute proof that they are inflate," this was stated in Alfie Kohn's reading.
Although studies have there there is not a way to prove grade inflation exists, there have been teachers and professors that have admitted to using grade
inflation. In class we watched a video called Declining By Degrees: Higher Education at Risk that interviewed college professors that admitted to
participating in grade inflation. The reason behind this, is to save the teacher's job, or so students continue to take their classes, or because they do not
want to be known as a mean teacher. It is possible that grade inflation exists but it is hard to find evidence to support

Persuasive Essay On True Education
A true education can be defined as "enough knowledge given to a student to be successful after completing school." The purpose of school is to give
students this true education, but as time passes, so must the old ways of accomplishing this. Reformists have made an effort to adjust the education
system to accompany the changing economy and surpass competition, and in doing so, have lost sight of a true education. The schools of today's
society attempt to prepare students for the future by providing them with basic academic skills; although these skills are handy for doing well on
standardized tests, they are nearly ineffectual for thriving in daily life.
The first time the education of children became serious was in the Age of Enlightenment. During this time, the quality of education was based on the
economy, thus it was a primitive basis of education. The current education system still runs on some of these old ideas, but in truth, the validity of these
principles has expired (RSA). However, the education system has developed somewhat, and some aspects of the information taught to students have
advanced. Nevertheless, it is advancing in the wrong direction. The education students receive prepares them for college; it doesn't prepare them for any
other pathway. "When we went to school, we were kept there with a story which is if you worked hard and did well and got a college degree, you would
have a job" (RSA). This is a common misconception presently, because some students choose not to attend college, and they find success elsewhere.
The mentality that one has to go to college to become successful is inapt and was more accurate in the Age of Enlightenment, when those without an
education simply ended up in the factories and coal mine with insufficient wages.
One effect from the changing view of the ideal education system is the pressure on the schools themselves. With a rapidly changing world, countries
find themselves competing for the upper hand; this includes having the best educated citizens. Hence, the US tries to cram as much information into the
heads of students as fast as possible. The students have only the slightest understanding of what they learned before they are pushed on to the next
subject.

Consequences Of Rote Learning And Cramming
Consequences of rote learning and cramming, seen through the lens of a South Korean
Education systems in Asia are often characterized to be more overwhelming for students, compared to Western countries. In South Korea, students are
pressured to ascend through high competition to enter a top–tier university to get a good job. To be superior than others in test scores, which are
fundamental in getting into a good university, Korean students often use cramming–style and rote learning study method to get high test scores and
grades. They go through overwhelming amount of study every day, and they have an extremely busy routine as they go to private institutes called

Many Korean university's acceptance are entirely based on this test. Also, unlike SATs or other standardized tests which can be taken several times, this
test can only be taken once a year, which means that a student is delayed a full year if he does not do well on his first test (Park). This pressures the
Korean students are thus pressured by the importance of this test and they become heavily immersed in studying since an early age, which leads to
stress and discontent. According to a survey released by the Institute for Social Development Studies in Yonsei University, Korean teenagers turned out
to be the unhappiest among the countries listed in the Organization for Economic Co–operation and Development, mainly due to exam results and
extreme tiredness from studying ("We Don 't Need Quite so Much Education"). Also, in 2009, the suicide rate among young Koreans was 15 per
100,000, which is much larger than 10 in America and 7 in China. Kim Jieun, a Korean student who took the College Scholastic Ability test a few years
ago, have narrated that, "I thought of emigrating. I hate the education system so much." ("The One–shot society"). Living such life, with a fixed routine,
is enough to give students unbearable amount of stress.

The Asian Education System versus the U.S. System
According to the World Rank Research Team, Japan is at the top of industrial advances that lead to a very high amount of patents in the country (211).
Japan is overtaking America in producing new inventions and conducting scientific research (World Rank Research Team 211). Producing and creating
new inventions are the results of very productive, smart individuals, who had a great education throughout their school careers. The Asian education
system is known world–wide for having many advantages compared to others like the United States. But they also share their own disadvantages. The
United States education system is great to a certain extent, but not very efficient. According to William S. Robinson in "New Math–Science Study Rates

Japanese parents do not like seeing their children fall behind in school, and they go to an extreme level of parenting which is a main key point of stress
onto their children. Fallows uses a quote "Pass with four, fail with five" referring to the amount of hours their children should sleep (204). Four hours of
sleep lets the student have more time to study than five hours of sleep. Extreme levels of parenting lead to excessive pressure on their children, and
many teachers and parents "complain bitterly" about their education system, but little is done to change it (Fallows 204). Pressure on students may lead
to stress and depression that can change their lives forever. It can affect teenagers, and young adults by encouraging them to do illegal things such as
drinking, smoking, and doing drugs because pressure would change their behaviors, attitudes, and even their morals.
Besides all the negativity, the United States and Asia have advantages that make them different from one another. The United States education system
may not be efficient enough, but there are also advantages of having the system we have now. The main advantage America has in its education system
is freedom. Having the freedom in class to speak and express our opinion is very important in the American culture. Such as, speaking out loud and
being free to give an opinion in class. For example, children in kindergarten can It promotes a free flow of ideas that

How do people support these ideas? What would improve the educational system using these ideals?
In today's field of education, there is a transparent division between the data driven outside group of education reformist, and the day – to – day inside
group who facilitates the educational standards and curriculum. Members of the outside group are often criticized for their "apparent" one – size fits all;
standardized model of education. Many outside appointed officials boast about the continued growth in student achievement from an analytical
standard, while many teachers ask "but at what cost?" In an article written by W. James Popham, he characterizes the outsider's educational model as

Dewey's statement was and should still be the ideology of what education is. The quality of a student's education should not be based on what percentile

their respective education system? What skills can they continually practice in their everyday life? If education continues to follow the model of "the

What are the issues of school improvement? What suggestions for solutions are possible?
With the modern trend in student and teacher accountability, the art of teaching is slowly becoming lost. The primary objectives of the Department of

the beliefs of past educators where strengthening a teacher's instructional strategies would surely outweigh the production line assembly of general

educated and life was simple and laid back, but when John Cotton (a noted Puritan Minister) established the first public school in America, people
began to eat it up. And thus was the start of a race to the top and an obsession in today's society about education. We are now living life in the fast lane,
and most people don't even have the time to stop and smell the flowers along the way. The Urban Legends, "Open Book", ... Show more content on

In "Reward" the student keeps himself accountable for his own success by working diligently and giving it all of his effort, because he knows that the
only way to success is to walk down a road less traveled. Is it impossible to solve a rubix cube? Its not impossible, one just needs to know the right
algorithms used to solve it. This is very similar to the Urban Legend of "The Unsolvable Problem". In this tale, a student mistakes an example of an
unsolvable math problem for his assigned homework, and after several long hours of hard work and dedication, he solves it. As we can see, the student
genuinely cares about his education, and he is willing to solve any problem in his path in order to be educated. This brings us back to the example of the
rubix cube. With enough dedication it can be solved without algorithms. These urban legends are clearly directed towards the younger generations as
they are the ones who are still in school and are sifting through the slow process of the education system. All three of these urban legends/tales have the
same theme of teens and education. They are all written for a specific audience type, and in these three the specific audience happens to be teenagers or
the younger generation. The Purpose of these legends is too relate to the teens in a way which will make them want to listen, and then to plant a seed or
a message deep down inside of their heads which tells them to stay in school and to stress how important

Book 11 Students Failure On The Classroom
After the discussion over the Book 11 students' problem. Maybe I should say that was my own problem of poor leadership and managing class that
result the students' failure on their test. As a private cram school English teacher, the greatest fear of our career is one of your students says to you, that
she is going to quit, of course we will do what ever it takes to keep the student. If the students did not do well on their test, it is because the teacher does
not know how to teach, the teacher did not do their job right, not because the students' laziness. So teachers take the whole responsibility for the
students performance. If they threatened the teacher to leave cram school then the teacher will take all of the blame. In other words we

How Cram Changed My Life Essay
What happened next changed his life. The first thing Cram noticed, true to himself, was the architecture. Overall, he was unimpressed with the style,
which he never came to appreciate. For about thirty minutes, Cram battled boredom, until the service started. He described the experience in his own
words:
Then, in their white and gold vestments, the sacred ministers came silently to the high altar, attended by crucifers, thurifers and acolytes, and stood
silently waiting. Suddenly came the bells striking the hour of midnight, and with the last clang the great organs and the choir burst into a melodious
thunder of sound; the incense rose in clouds, filling the church with a veil of pale smoke; and the Mass proceeded to its climax with the offering of the
Holy Sacrifice of the Body and Blood of Christ. I did not understand all of this with my mind, but I understood.
After a life growing up in the home of a pastor, studying art, and designing architecture, Cram's accidental preparation enabled him to "understand" the
experience in a way no one else ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In May of 1910, the leading businesspeople of Far Rockaway gathered to dedicate the Russell Sage Memorial Church. In structuring the building, Cram
and his associates intentionally shifted theology to the forefront by moving the organ. One architecture magazine pointed out that in Protestant churches
at that time, the organ often overshadowed both the pulpit and the communion table, but in Sage Memorial, the organ and choir had been relegated to
the sides, highlighting the pulpit and table. At the dedication, a memorial address proclaimed that "the very erection of such a building as this for His
glory is a witness to a believer's sense of his unrivaled greatness and majesty." The architect–theologian designed the church to convey theology and

Standardized Testing Argumentative Essay
Standardized tests, the monster all students have to face. These "important" tests are known to cause high amounts of stress on not only students, but
also teachers, causing them to "teach to the test." This, and the stress, can negatively affect a student's potential to learn as much as they possibly can.
Studies have proven that standardized tests also are not reliable for many reasons. One reason being, standardized tests do not even accurately measure
how much an individual student has learned. So, why do standardized tests even exist?
The earliest form of standardized tests were used to measure the knowledge, of people wanting government jobs, on philosophy and poetry. Another
early form of standardized tests, were essays. The more modern version of standardized tests started in the 1800's when school had become more of an
option over working, to get children out of dangerous workplaces like factories. The tests these students took are similar to modern ones, where
everyone in the same grade gets the same exact test. The reason for standardized tests back then, were to easily and quickly, evaluate how much the
students had learned. Now that we have more efficient ways of evaluating how much a student has learned, why do we still use this method of testing?
There are two common ways a standardized test is taken. One way, is filling in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Teachers worry about losing their job if their students do not perform well on the test. So, they will frequently "teach to the test" which means they may
skip over a lesson if they think it will not be on the test, or teach things a certain way because that's how they think it will be asked on a test. This can
alter the potential a student has to learn. Basically, standardized tests are used to determine how much a student has learned, yet, at the same time, it is
causing teachers to skip certain parts of the course. Standardized tests contradict

South Korea Suicide
The prominent education frenzy in South Korea places students in a high stress environment which can contribute to the risk for suicide ideation. The
average school day in South Korea lasts eight to nine hours, which is then followed by cram school and multiple hours dedicated to studying. An
anonymous student, quoted by BBC News, described her day as the following:
She rises at 6.30am, is at school by 8am, finishes at 4pm, (or 5pm if she has a club), then pops back home to eat. She then takes a bus to her second
school shift of the day, at a private crammer or hagwon, where she has lessons from 6pm until 9pm. She spends another two hours in what she calls

In an article for the Economist by S. C., the author summarizes that the purpose of the exam is to provide an analogous view of students abilities that
universities or future employers can easily reference. However, the fundamental problem with this method is that the test is only empirical if students
study for the same amount of time, otherwise those who study the most have an advantage going into the test. With this knowledge in mind, students
become overly competitive in an attempt to get into leading colleges and spend a majority of their time studying or in academically related situations.
In order to accommodate for cram schools and the extra homework provided by them, students sacrifice their time for themselves and their sleep. In a
study published in the Korean Journal of Pediatrics on sleep patterns and school performances, data indicated an average of less than six hours of sleep
on the weeknights for high schoolers. Additionally, the National Sleep Foundation attributes behaviorally–induced insufficient sleep syndrome,
otherwise known as voluntary sleep deprivation, to, "poor work performance,

Tutorial Schools in Hong Kong
In Hong Kong, cram schools are called tutorial schools. The small scale tutorial schools have been appeared in 50s–60s and the earliest large scale
tutorial school spring up in 1972. The purposes of tutorial school are to improve students' performance in some particular subjects like English and
Mathematics but now it turns to teach students the techniques of answering questions in the examinations. From the figures by The Census and
Statistics Department released a third of students from secondary school and primary school had applied tutorial class, and spent a total of $18.9 million
a month. The essay will discuss the reason and impact of the issue from the philosophical perspective.
Nowadays, there are different kinds of tutorial classes for students to apply such as private tutoring, small scale tutorial centre and tutorial school but
they aim to help students to prepare the public exams only. Video tutorial classes also appear in recent years for dealing with large numbers of students.
Sometimes, several projectors are required for teaching a large class. In the classroom, students take notes on the material the instructor is teaching.
Tutorial schools mainly provide some question tipping, techniques of answering, elite class rather than focus on the problems on their academy and
learning ability. According to Kennedy and Lee (2007), students think that tutorial school provided shortcuts to learning through past examination paper

Teaching 10th Grade Analysis
"The thirteen–year–old brain is not over–the–hill. It is just discovering the higher peaks of thinking." (Peter Lorain) I couldn't agree with Lorain more.
The reason why I love teaching 10th grade is because I can see first hand the transition my students undergo from children, to young adults. Lorain
states that during the adolescent years, children begin "developing skills in deductive reasoning, problem solving, and generalizing" (Lorain). Not only
are students interpreting information on a deeper level, but during this time they are also learning to control their impulses. What I have observed in the
past 3 years is this trend where students enter the 10th grade super hyper, fidgeting in their seat, constantly giggling, summarizing the ... Show more

analysis on the texts; and classroom management is no longer an issue. I would like to take full credit and say that most of this is due to providing
students with "predictable and safe environments so that they can take risks, explore, and grow", but I know that the child's development also plays a
larger role. When a teacher can incorporate routines in their classroom and foster a positive and welcoming learning environment, they are ultimately
"capitalizing" on the students' developmental

Successful American Students
After only seventeen years of living, students are sat down and told that they need to figure out what they are going to do for the rest of their lives. If
they are lucky they will not be one of the many kids who falls through the cracks of the American education system. School has become far too
stressful for the average teenager. Students now a days are finding school more and more difficult due to learning disabilities, over pilling amounts of
homework and tests, and large classroom sizes.
With thirty–eight students are being taught by just one teacher there is only so much one–on–one time available during class times. ""Kids are
unpredictable, and kids need attention. In smaller classes, you can give them the attention they need. You can allow them to express themselves and you

Diversity Is The Equal Coexistence Of Diverse Cultures,...
Introduction In America, past and present, we are faced with many challenges pertaining to diversity. Diversity is defined as the presence of human
beings with perceived or actual differences based on a variety of human characteristics (Koppelman 2014). A challenge of diversity faced is on
American Education. Education is most important because our future society depends on it and if we did not have it our future would most certainly
fail. Learning and schooling is critical for everyone to gain knowledge and continue leading our diverse society forward into the right direction. Since
diversity is a common issue relating to students who have gone through these situations there have been many intense debates and legal cases (Dey
2008). Education in America needs to have more pluralism, where all diverse groups can have the same mutual respect. Pluralism is the equal
coexistence of diverse cultures, institutions, and/or individuals within mutually supportive relationship within the boundaries of one nation (Koppelman
2009). In a pluralistic society all the groups in the society should be taught about each other's diverse cultures, historical events, and so on in school so
it can all be fair. Some parents and teachers felt that there were no benefits for the students to learn about multicultural education (Koppelman 2009).
There are so many things that can be done to correct the challenge of diversity to American education and so many reasons why there are challenges in

Standardized Testing Argumentative Analysis
After the No Child Left Behind Act passed in 2002, the U.S. dropped from 18th to 31st place in the world in math with a similar decrease in science,
and no change in reading. Standardized tests are not objective and focus on a narrow curriculum. This limits America's ability to produce critical
thinkers. Although many believe standardized tests are a reliable and effective way to measure a student's abilities, standardized testing only measure a
small portion of one's capabilities, don't prepare students for productive adult lives, and are an inaccurate measure of teacher performance.
According to Time Magazine's article, A Brief History of Standardized Testing, standardized tests in the U.S. can be traced back to the early 1800's.

The Meaning Of A True Education
Synthesis Essay Rough Draft
A true education can be defined as "enough knowledge given to a student to be successful in life after completing school." The purpose of school is to
give students this true education, but as time passes, so must the old ways of accomplishing this.
The education students receive prepare them for college; it doesn't prepare them for any
other pathway. "When we went to school, we were kept there with a story which is if you worked hard and did well and got a college degree, you would
have a job" (RSA). This is a common

Why Japan's Education System
In 8000 BCE, a small nation emerged in East Asia, in the Pacific Ocean. It has grown to an archipelago made out of over 6,000 islands, with 4 main
islands. These islands have a tropical climate in the south and a temperate climate in the north. The land is mountainous and rocky, with volcanic or
seismic activity almost every day. It began as a place full of hunters and gathers. Then in 300 BCE, rice production rose and allowed these groups to
form a conglomerate nation known as Japan. After the nation was formed, Japan went through a multitude of wars (both civil and foreign), movement
of the capital city, changes in governmental systems, rise and fall of dynasties, creation or introduction of religions, and improvement of technology and

The people of Japan work carefully to be successful in school, excel in the workplace, and to keep traditions in practice, and that is why the Japanese
are industrious. The term industrious can describe Japan's education system for a few of reasons. The foremost reason is that Japan is diligent when
educating their students. During primary education, what Americans consider elementary education, the students are grouped into four–person teams. In
each group, the students are paired by strengthens and weaknesses, in hopes that they can learn from and help each other to further their education. The
Japanese education system is also diligent throughout their secondary education, which includes their middle and high school levels. They meticulously
select what classes the students take, to ensure that each student is taking the needed academic courses, while also making sure they are taking an arts
course. These are required because the Japanese believe that a mix of academics and arts creates a well–rounded citizen.
The Japanese education system can be categorized as industrious also because of the work ethics that are imparted during the students' years. Japan has
a highly regarded school system that pushes its students to excel. It does this by giving them the motivation to complete tasks they are given and more.
This is evident in the widely used "cram school", which is instruction after the normal school day to prepare for exams. The Japanese education

  • 3. Technology Changes In America Technology was the highlight of every 7th graders day last year. Technology was interesting and fun and always taught us something new. We as a class were constantly doing new activities on the computers, but all that changed this year. Technology was replaced with a special class named Math lab. At first most of our class knew what to think of what this new special would be. Yet after the first class it was obvious what Math Lab was. Math lab was a boring, repetitive, strict class that only minorly strengthens skills in Math that most of both classes already knew. If we do not bring back technology instead of math lab we may not be able to learn computer skills that are needed in High School. If Technology does not come back instead of Math lab we and future 8th graders may not know skills on the computer needed for high school. When our class enters high school, with technology as a class gone, we will not know how to use important programs such as PowerPoint or Microsoft Word. Knoxville Catholic, Farragut High school, and Lenoir City high school have a computers technology class. They have no Math Lab or computers math class. So what then is the point of having a class that does not exist in the later grades? If middle school is serving the purpose of preparing us for high school then shouldn't we mimic the high schools? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Every day at the last class is Math. And still we have Math class every day. Saying that Math Lab will improve our understanding and knowledge of Math, and improve our GPA on Math scores simply isn't true. 1 class every week on a subject we have every day will not solve anything! Furthermore the work that we do in Math lab is the opposite of motivating. The work that remembers is repetitive and boring, makes students not want to study! Math class should be for ... • 5. Arguments Against Standardized Testing Stressful standardized testing turns many classrooms into training centers instead of offering an engaging, well–rounded, preparatory environment. Long lectures and teachers preaching causes students to grow bored and dose off ultimately dropping test scores. Students feel like they are nothing more than their test scores, and feel a sense of not knowing who they are. These standardized tests also lead to anxiety and depression in students, and can lead to students feeling like dropping out is the only option. No, standardized testing should not be eliminated completely, but rather be evaluated by universities as well as things such as volunteer hours, extracurricular activities, and grades. "The Essential of a Good Education," written by Diane Ravitch, states this very clearly. In this aricle: she critizues the education system in America today. Standardized tests are frequently used to asses a student's academic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead of students studying for tests all year long, students just cram for the test when the date is near. According to eCampusTours, "Standardized testing impedes the assessment of a very important skill. For the most part, standardized tests hinder any sort of creative and out of the box thinking, which is a skill needed in college and the workplace." Standardized teststing makes it so that instead of creative learning druing school, students just learn the information that is going to be presrnted on the test and nothing more. Having a positive enviorment for studnents to express themselves and their creativity helps them prepare for the future. In the article "The Essentials to a Good Education," Ravitch writes that, "They[schools] should broaden their knowledge of the world so that they recognize that other people think differently; by doing so, they may abandon narrow provincialism and get a clearer unddrstanding of other cultures" (Ravitch ... • 7. Should Schools Be More Breaks Throughout The Day? 64% of students get stressed and overwhelmed by such long classes or too much work. Schools should make more breaks throughout the day because students get stressed, it will give your brain a break, and it won't overwork the students. For example, many students get frustrated or stressed during some classes. It may be one of their weak subjects that they are struggling in, or they might not be interested in what they are learning. Most of the time, students get frustrated because they don't understand something. The teachers always want to help, but the other students might have questions also. When students get overwhelmed, it makes them not want to try or come to school. Another reason why I think there should be more breaks during the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The student can't even think right with the amount of homework assigned to him. The teacher starts the lesson and that's when the teacher is not able to catch the student's attention. The student stares up in the air and looks at ceiling. He is listing every single piece of homework he has and quizzes and tests that week. That's when the teacher finds this kid talking to himself. "I have 3 tests, math homework, italian homework, literacy homework, and science homework!!" The student talks to himself. "Hey, stop staring off in space and listen to the lesson!" The teacher exclaimed in a nasty tone. The bell rings and the kid finally gets home. "Go do your homework!" The kids mom stated. The student runs to his room and locks the door so he doesn't get distracted. An hour passes by and he has done nothing. His mom unlocks his door and checks up on what he has done. She figures out he's asleep and has done nothing. She deviously takes his phone and he doesn't know. Two hours later he wakes up and his mom gets enraged and flips out on him. It is currently 8:00pm and he has done none of his homework. He starts his homework and doesn't finish until 10:30 pm and still has to study for three tests. • 13. Standardized Testing In America Standardized Testing: Declining the Education in America. Every year, millions of students take long standardized tests, but do they improve the education of American students? In 2000, the US ranked 18th in mathematics worldwide. By 2012, the US dropped to 27th, with similar results in the remaining subjects. After passing the "No Child Left Behind" Act of 2001, the lives of thousands were academically changed. NCLB's Mission Statement reads: "Our mission is to promote student achievement and preparation for global competitiveness by fostering educational excellence and ensuring equal access." They cram their brains then forget it all after the test. School systems have become accustomed to the "Drill n' Kill" method. A University of Maryland study from 2007 found many teacher felt they needed to "teach to the test". NCLB instilled this practice due to the decreased amount of time available for teaching and the increased amount of higher–order thinking involved in each test. As Benjamin Franklin wisely stated, "Tell me and I forget, teach me and I remember, involve me and I learn." If teachers are being told to repeat information students may remember some of it, but will most defiantly have more success being taught in an environment conducive to long term memory. This may be possible for some counties, but the tests have constantly increased the material and rigor each year leaving no time but for repetition from student to teacher. • 15. Compare Modern Education In China With The Educational... 1. Compare modern education in China with the educational system prior to 1911. What are the key similarities and differences between the two? There have been a lot of educational reforms over the years in which it can be traced as far back as far as the Shang Dynasty. Education is necessary as it lead to wealth and success, so it was and still is important to the Chinese people, in the past and now. Which is a similarity, education has always been valued by the people. There was a plan to reform to increase public education and rebuild the society. In 1911, the difference was that the government was completely forsaken towards the traditional way of education. Historically, there was a pattern to divide china and the educational system between private and official, in which there was a purpose to train students to be better. 2. Using Zhang Yimou's film Not One Less, identify challenges that a migrant from the country to the city might encounter. One challenge would be that since it is such a long journey and there isn't a lot of money for transportation, it typically takes around a month for a migrant to go to the city. They need to find someone to take care of their jobs or other needs that need to be taken care of while they are gone. In the case of the video, the teacher had to find a young girl to teach the class while he was gone. She was inexperienced and didn't have very many talents of her own. Another challenge that they would have is that they would be very unfamiliar with the city lifestyle. When the young girl reaches the city she looks to be intrigued with how much is going on compared to what she had in her village. Also, everything in the city is more expensive for them coming from poverty. 3. Identify three challenges faced by rural schools in China. Discuss three realistic ways that these problems might be overcome. There are a lot of challenges that students and teachers have to face in rural schools in China. Teachers are very hard to find because a lot of them are not educated. Overtime this can be solved as more children are going to school and are getting an education. • 17. Third Grade : My Most Memorable School Years Of My Life Fourth grade, one of my most memorable school years of my life, it was there where I changed my study habits and made an important life decision. I stopped applying myself in school and I decided to never be like my mother, to never have a job that would take me away from my family. Elementary was the same as everyone, the best of times of my life, school wasn't much of a bother, I had no worries and lunch was the best. When it was time for me to even start, my family moved twice that year , so when I actually started I went in with my brother and it was with him that I noticed a difference between his ability to learn and mine. He always struggled with school, but I always found school work easier and hardly ever had difficulty. I recall in first grade my teacher would read these series of books called Junie B. Jones and wow, how I was hooked, the whole class would beg her to read more and more. Once I went to second grade I, like other students would continue reading the Junie B. Jones series but little by little I noticed that fewer and fewer kids would read. I can't be for certain if it was all the books I would read, but whenever I had a vocabulary test I would remember them and never had a quick review right before the quiz, the point is I was good at school and my teachers could tell. Call me a narcissist, but I loved teacher conference because my teachers would always talk so highly of me and I could've never help it a smile would always come across my face no ... Descriptive Essay On Home Away From Home Home Away From Home We wish you a merry Christmas, we wish you a merry Christmas, we wish you a merry Christmas, and a happy New Year...Hymns of the song, the tinkling sound of the bells, the sweet aroma of the marshmallows floating on the brewed hot chocolate, and the maple wood scented candlelight burning slightly as it's twitching from side to side creating a warm atmosphere. However, among this delightful setting stands a girl with medium length black hair in front of the class as she stands still in awe, speculating about the unfamiliar environment. Before her eyes, the people attracted her attention. She was standing before these people she's never been around before, and there are people she's only seen in movies, particularly Home Alone, Shaolin Soccer, and Miss Congeniality. People peer into each other's eyes as they pinpoint a peculiar face standing in front of the rows. She is dressed in long denim pants, a white tee with long sleeves, a pair of black old–fashioned platform shoes, and a greyish backpack hung low on her back. On one of her elbows, she carries a light pink and white jacket, nervously holding tightly onto her wrist of the opposite hand. Abruptly, all students stand and line up near the door, which opens up to a cheerful adult in her early thirties wearing a white, fuzz–lined red hat with a fluffy cotton ball at the tip. After mingling with her students, she leads us through the hallways into another room, filled with small desks and backpacks lying underneath. The adult approaches me with a warm smile, taking my hand into an embrace as she asks for my name. A slight nervousness reaches me, and I answer her question quietly. Then, she leads me to a desk and comes with a folder of papers, including a rectangular transparent pocket where my name is spelled inside on a white piece of paper. My name was one of the few words I recognized in this foreign language. I looked around subtly, noticing people of many different races interacting in joy, but my own heart yearned for home. Home, where people woke early at the break of dawn, moving from place to place with their bikes, motorcycles, and rickshaws. • 21. The Importance Of Education In Education The United States of America is nowhere near being one of the most educated countries in the world. "The U.S. ranks No. 18 in perceptions of an educated population, just above South Korea and behind Italy" (https://www.usnews.com/news/best–countries/articles/2017–08–25/most–educated– countries–according–to–perception). There is no single solution that can cure the education system without causing other problems in the students and teachers lives. However, if the US were to have year round school, they would have more rigor to learn, and wouldn't be behind other countries. "During the first Algebra II test that fall, the girl sitting next to her complained that she didn't understand one of the problems. Jenny had answered it quickly, probably because shed learned the material two years earlier." "Right there in front of everyone he walked her through the solution ––– during the test." (SKITW). The US spends a lot more time on one subject than other countries that spend a lot less time, making it almost impossible for american students to compete at other countries' level. So, America's students are way further behind other students. I was never allowed to take honors classes for math, even though I was getting almost a perfect score on all of the tests we did. Every year I would go to math class learning the same thing we did the year before. So, when I got to higher math classes, I didn't know what all the other kids knew, because they took honors classes. I had to work ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Cram Schools Can´t Substitute for the Official Schools It is becoming increasingly common nowadays in China that students go to cram schools frequently instead of attending the official school every time when some important examinations are coming. This phenomenon happens a lot around me. Many good friends of mine, no matter whether they are good at studying or not, will chose to go to cram schools for further study. Their goals are to triumph over challenges and difficulties in study and make higher marks. However, to my surprise, having spent a lot of time and money, they made lower marks sometimes. They study very hard every time in cram schools, nevertheless, they feel worn out and always gain results, which are not satisfying. And what is also unfortunate is that their endeavors are in vain. How ridiculous it is! Cram schools should be to blame for this. Attending cram schools too much does harm to a student's academic achievement because of its high pressure, high costs, endless boring homework,as well as the students' lacking creativities and flexibilities. Firstly, cram school gives its students high pressure. Students who attend cram schools are supposed to study after study; also, they are expected to study against time in order to get higher grades. They're asked by the teachers to strive hard to excel in every examination, which leaves them no spare time to develop their hobbies. Many kids don't have much time to work because you'd have to cram so much work in four days and some kids are very busy with too much homework or particular events. Because of the problem, the students are not able to learn as well. Emerson gets his message out by using diction to strengthen his position and Emerson also appeals to pathos. In "Education", Emerson uses diction as a way to keep audiences engaged in what he is trying to argue. Emerson uses the words "drill" and "labor" to create a hostile tone which enhances his message that the school system is broken (Emerson). The word "drill" in this context is used as an aggressive move. Every corner of the campus is literally built with valuable memories dating back generations upon generations. Speaking from personal experience, looking around and taking in all of what the college has to offer has left a lingering impression. As a fairly new student, I am amazed as to how much I have yet to discover, explore and learn about my new college. The first time I set foot at Rollins was when I went through the student orientation. Yes, it was a long session filled with an overload of information in one afternoon. However, the orientation redeemed itself to become interesting when the coordinator, Dr. Kenyon, took the whole group into the Knowles Memorial Chapel. It was at this time that the weather had turned from sunny and warm to dark and gloomy from the oncoming afternoon storm. Although instead of making it an abhorrent experience due to the rain, the weather actually set a rather compelling atmosphere to take a quick tour through the Chapel. Dark wooden pews ... • 33. Summary Of The Dangerous Myths Of Grade Inflation When it comes to the issues of education and the many different opinions on how education should be ran; the finger always seems to be pointed at the students. It is the students fault that grade inflation exists. It is the students fault that there is a lack of effort in the classroom. Think about it though, are the flaws that occur in education really our fault? Maybe, maybe not. It is important that everyone (educators, students, parents, and administrators), understand both sides to what is really going on and the issues occurring in the academe world. An ongoing issue in the classroom is the students lack of effort. Both teachers and parents often complain about students being rather torpid. Is this really the students fault? Is it even the teacher's fault? On the student's side, they do not want to be there. Us students are at school a little over ten ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Does grade inflation actually exist? In the reading "The Dangerous Myths of Grade Inflation" by Alfie Kohn, he gives plenty examples as to why grade inflation does not exist, Kohn also backs up his examples with studies that have shown that there is no way to prove grade inflation exists. "However, even where grades are higher now as compared with then, that does not constitute proof that they are inflate," this was stated in Alfie Kohn's reading. Although studies have there there is not a way to prove grade inflation exists, there have been teachers and professors that have admitted to using grade inflation. In class we watched a video called Declining By Degrees: Higher Education at Risk that interviewed college professors that admitted to participating in grade inflation. • 35. Persuasive Essay On True Education A true education can be defined as "enough knowledge given to a student to be successful after completing school." The purpose of school is to give students this true education, but as time passes, so must the old ways of accomplishing this. Reformists have made an effort to adjust the education system to accompany the changing economy and surpass competition, and in doing so, have lost sight of a true education. The schools of today's society attempt to prepare students for the future by providing them with basic academic skills; although these skills are handy for doing well on standardized tests, they are nearly ineffectual for thriving in daily life. The first time the education of children became serious was in the Age of Enlightenment. During this time, the quality of education was based on the economy, thus it was a primitive basis of education. The current education system still runs on some of these old ideas, but in truth, the validity of these principles has expired (RSA). However, the education system has developed somewhat, and some aspects of the information taught to students have advanced. Nevertheless, it is advancing in the wrong direction. The education students receive prepares them for college; it doesn't prepare them for any other pathway. "When we went to school, we were kept there with a story which is if you worked hard and did well and got a college degree, you would have a job" (RSA). This is a common misconception presently, because some students choose not to attend college, and they find success elsewhere. The mentality that one has to go to college to become successful is inapt and was more accurate in the Age of Enlightenment, when those without an education simply ended up in the factories and coal mine with insufficient wages. One effect from the changing view of the ideal education system is the pressure on the schools themselves. With a rapidly changing world, countries find themselves competing for the upper hand; this includes having the best educated citizens. Hence, the US tries to cram as much information into the heads of students as fast as possible. The students have only the slightest understanding of what they learned before they are pushed on to the next subject. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This pressures the Korean students are thus pressured by the importance of this test and they become heavily immersed in studying since an early age, which leads to stress and discontent. Also, in 2009, the suicide rate among young Koreans was 15 per 100,000, which is much larger than 10 in America and 7 in China. Producing and creating new inventions are the results of very productive, smart individuals, who had a great education throughout their school careers. The Asian education system is known world–wide for having many advantages compared to others like the United States. But they also share their own disadvantages. The United States education system is great to a certain extent, but not very efficient. According to William S. Robinson in "New Math–Science Study Rates U.S. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Japanese parents do not like seeing their children fall behind in school, and they go to an extreme level of parenting which is a main key point of stress onto their children. Fallows uses a quote "Pass with four, fail with five" referring to the amount of hours their children should sleep (204). Four hours of sleep lets the student have more time to study than five hours of sleep. Extreme levels of parenting lead to excessive pressure on their children, and many teachers and parents "complain bitterly" about their education system, but little is done to change it (Fallows 204). Pressure on students may lead to stress and depression that can change their lives forever. It can affect teenagers, and young adults by encouraging them to do illegal things such as drinking, smoking, and doing drugs because pressure would change their behaviors, attitudes, and even their morals. Besides all the negativity, the United States and Asia have advantages that make them different from one another. The United States education system may not be efficient enough, but there are also advantages of having the system we have now. The main advantage America has in its education system is freedom. As we can see, the student genuinely cares about his education, and he is willing to solve any problem in his path in order to be educated. This brings us back to the example of the rubix cube. Overall, he was unimpressed with the style, which he never came to appreciate. For about thirty minutes, Cram battled boredom, until the service started. He described the experience in his own words: Then, in their white and gold vestments, the sacred ministers came silently to the high altar, attended by crucifers, thurifers and acolytes, and stood silently waiting. Suddenly came the bells striking the hour of midnight, and with the last clang the great organs and the choir burst into a melodious thunder of sound; the incense rose in clouds, filling the church with a veil of pale smoke; and the Mass proceeded to its climax with the offering of the Holy Sacrifice of the Body and Blood of Christ. These "important" tests are known to cause high amounts of stress on not only students, but also teachers, causing them to "teach to the test." This, and the stress, can negatively affect a student's potential to learn as much as they possibly can. Studies have proven that standardized tests also are not reliable for many reasons. One reason being, standardized tests do not even accurately measure how much an individual student has learned. So, why do standardized tests even exist? The earliest form of standardized tests were used to measure the knowledge, of people wanting government jobs, on philosophy and poetry. Another early form of standardized tests, were essays. The more modern version of standardized tests started in the 1800's when school had become more of an option over working, to get children out of dangerous workplaces like factories. The tests these students took are similar to modern ones, where everyone in the same grade gets the same exact test. The reason for standardized tests back then, were to easily and quickly, evaluate how much the students had learned.
