Example Of Racial Identity
As a result of the white heteropatriarchy prevailing over the United States, each minority American
undergoes a unique struggle to establish an individual racial identity. Minorities define themselves
in relation to their races based on differentiating qualities such as ethnicity, class, gender and
sexuality. Two documentary films that star minority figures and describe how race shaped these
figures' stories are American Revolutionary: The Evolution of Grace Lee Boggs, directed by Grace
Lee and O.J.: Made In America, directed by Ezra Edelman. These films differ in their content and
structure because the former shares a positive story about a Chinese–American woman's rise to
success as an activist, whereas the latter explains the harrowing background and circumstances that
corrupted a successful African–American male athlete. Grace Lee Boggs presents a confounding
example of racial identity in that she aligns herself closely with black issues rather than Chinese–
American or female causes. The articles "The Chinese Exclusion Example: Race, Immigration, and
American Gatekeeping, 1882–1924" by Erika Lee and "When Whiteness Feminizes...: Some
Consequences of a Supplementary Logic" by Rey Chow offer historical context surrounding
Boggs's identity by clarifying that Boggs emerged after the height of anti–Asian immigration
policies and of white feminist theory. Unlike Grace Lee Boggs' subconscious distancing from
identifying as a Chinese–American woman, O.J. Simpson intentionally

Huckleberry Finn Morality Essay
Joel Cann says, "You don't need religion to have morals. If you can't determine right from wrong
then you lack empathy, not religion." In The Adventure of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, a
fifteen year old boy, Huckleberry Finn, experiences several situations of moral degradation in the
1800s. Huck has conflict with his conscience when he tries to follow his heart and not obtain the
characteristics of a deformed society. Huck struggles morally when he encounters child abuse,
dishonesty, and murder situations. Huck's morals are affected when he experiences child abuse from
his father. For instance, when Huck is encounters abuse by his father, he is left with an affected
morality. Huck's father came back to Hannibal when he found out that Huck had money and Pap
wanted it. Huck's father ruined his relationship with his son by abusing him. Huck states, ¨So he

For example, he witnessed some murders, such as Boggs death. Boggs is an old drunk who was very
harmless from Arkansaw. Once in awhile, Boggs would wander into town and pick on someone
each time, this time happened to be Colonel Sherburn. Colonel Sherburn is the wealthiest man in
their town and is a store owner that Boggs insults. As Huck narrates, "'O´ lord don't shoot!' Bang!
goes the first shot, and he staggers back, clawing at the air–Bang!" (143). Witnessing a murderous
situation like Colonel Sherburn murdering Boggs had a major affect on Huck's morals such as
experiencing how deformed the society was. Also, Huck witnessed Boggs falling and dying on the
ground. Huck narrates, "He tumbles backwards onto the ground, heavy and solid, with his arms
spread out" (143). Witnessing a death would make a difference on how Huck sees his own morals.
Overall, witnessing Colonel Sherburn murder Boggs made a great difference on how Huck

Short Story Of Tamar Boggs
The first article I read about the 15 year old boy that saved the 5 year old girl. Tamar Boggs a 15
year old boy at the time saved a 5 year old little girl by the name of Jocelyn Rojon from being
kidnapped. Jocelyn had been missing for more than two hours by the time Tamar Boggs was aware
of it. "Jocelyn had been missing for almost 2 hours..." When Tamar Boggs was notified of the
missing little girl he borrowed his friends BMX bike to go find her with a friend. Tamar had a
feeling in him that he was going to find her. They found a car that seemed like it was in an
unfamiliar area almost like he had never been there before. The car stopped and Jocelyn Rojon came
out of the car and ran to Tamar. Tamar had found the missing little girl by the name

Grief Theory
1. Arnold and Boggs (2016) defined grief as a holistic, adaptive process that a person goes through
following a significant loss. Grief varies from person to person. Grief is most likely associated with
a death of a loved one, but can also be associated with any loss. Certain events and holidays can
cause the grief to resurface. Grief is more than sadness and is described as an unexpected punch in
the gut (Arnold and Boggs, 2016). The patterns of grief are: acute grief, anticipatory grief, chronic
sorrow, and complicated grieving. Acute grief occurs as somatic distress and lasts a short time.
Anticipatory grief is the response before a person dies and a person thinking about their death can
cause it too. Chronic sorrow is as "a normal grief response associated with ongoing living loss that
is permanent, progressive, recurring, and cyclic in nature" (Arnold and Boggs, 2016). Complicated
grieving is longer and an intense expression of grief.
The five stage model of death and dying of Elisabeth Kübler–Ross is a theoretical framework
related to the grieving process. The five stages are: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and
acceptance. Denial can be either temporary or last throughout one's illness. Denial is when a person
refuses to believe that they have an illness, "No, not me." Anger produces feelings of unfairness and
they become angry at God and projects anger on to close loved ones. Bargaining is when the person
requests extra time. In the depression stage,

As You Like It and Edward Scissorhands Essay
Inherent within humanity is the need to belong, in which an individual must accept one another in
order to achieve a greater sense of connectedness and identity. This is firstly evident in
Shakespeare's As You Like It whereby the ideas of love are used to reveal how relationships are
fundamental to one's sense of belonging. Act 1 Scene 3 explores belonging and not belonging
through love and nature as it establishes the plot at the mark of separation from court and country by
Rosalind and Celia breaking the sense of belonging to place. Celia and Rosalind convey a strong
bond evident in Celia's plea to her father, Duke Frederick, to keep Rosalind at court rather than
banishing her to the Forest of Arden. Conventions of love are evident ... Show more content on

These settings are symbolic of the lack of belonging which is felt when the natural order is
destroyed and baser natural instincts conquer positive feelings. "Now go we in content, to liberty
and not to banishment" concludes the scene with a rhyming couplet giving the scene a positive
ending through a tone of contentment that arises from a greater sense of belonging and connection
between individuals.
Similarly, the film by Tim Burton, Edward Scissorhands portrays deep ideas about belonging
whereby notions of acceptance and identity are illustrated through the use of filming techniques.
Love and acceptance are challenged when Peg Boggs, the Avon representative rescues Edward from
the mansion on top of the hill where he has spent his entirety. Upon Peg entering, a wide shot shows
the sun shining into the mansion symbolising how the outside world has forever shone through but
never been explored. The fear and disappointment of being judged for the hands that his inventor
was never able to give him as "he never woke up" has left him in solidarity disconnected from
society. A close up shot shows a collection of various images relating to those who are in some way
unable to perform normal daily functions,

Manhood In The Film, Magnolia
"No man has ever risen to the real stature of spiritual manhood until he has found that it is finer to
serve somebody else than it is to serve himself" –Woodrow Wilson. What truly classifies a man as
"manly"? To some, manhood is a sense of authority over others, and to others, manhood is shown by
love, compassion, and providing security for those around them. Portrayed as a fast paced film,
Magnolia depicts a story of shattered families, unforeseen relations, catastrophe, second chances,
and differences in life choices. The theme of a film, or any work, is the subject or topic. Roger Ebert
expresses in his review of Magnolia how the opening sequence, a narrated TV special about
coincidence, sets up the entire theme of the film: "It sets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

community, also, his ability to serve helps him understand the man he has become. However, the
decision making, whether it be to act as an officer, or whether to give someone a second chance will
forever be a troubling decision to Jim. Although their differences in views of manhood, the

Communication Interactive Analysis Essay
COMMUNICATION INTERACTIVE ANALYSIS
Goal for the interaction: My goals for the interaction was to create and build a therapeutic
relationship with the client. I hoped to use multiple communication techniques such as the use of
open ended questions and general leads.
Description of the environment: The interaction first took place in the cafeteria of the home during
breakfast. We were both seated at a table and there was plenty of background noise as there were
multiple people eating and having conversations. Later on the interaction moved to the client's room
because it was quiet and there was almost no background noise. The client sat on the edge of here

Open–ended questions were necessary throughout this interaction because without them the client
would not have given me the information that I was searching for. Open–ended questions helped me
to build trust between the client and I. They ensured the client that I was interested in what they
were saying.
"That's amazing, can you tell me about your stay here?"
I used silence to allow for the client to think about how she was feeling. I also used facial
expressions to show my interest and curiosity. I was beginning to become worried and anxious that I
would not be able to complete the assignment because I wasn't receiving the information I was
expecting from this interaction. "I like it here quite a bit, the building is new, I remember when this
was just bush. There is also many people around my age so I always have someone to talk to"
The client sat on the edge of her bed and gestured around to the building and surrounding rooms
Asking clients to share something about themselves and their life history, apart from the reasons for
the health visit or administration helps to establish rapport and increases the client's comfort level

Does Sherburn Kill Bogggs
I do agree Sherburn was justified in shooting Boggs because of his belligerent and violent actions.
Sherburn was seen as a reasonable man who was being harassed by Boggs. Boggs was told several
times to stop his aggressive behavior towards Sherburn. Boggs continues and in retaliation,
Sherburn kills Boggs. In this part of the book, Mark Twain uses Sherburn's actions to describe and
address to social problem pertaining to the general state of man within a civilized society. Through
Huck's observations and encounters, Twain addresses the poor state of humanity not only in the
novel, but in real life. Twain discusses real life conflicts such as disrespect towards one another, civil
disobedience towards the law, and not respecting personal boundaries

Empathy, An Essential Concept For Nursing Practice
Empathy is defined as the ability to communicate an understanding of a client's feelings, and is a
crucial component of the helping relationship (Boggs. 2011, p.106). Empathy is an essential concept
to nursing practice as it allows the nurse to gain perspective in order to provide appropriate actions
and interventions significant to that patient's individual experience. In Tilda Shalof's "A Nurses'
Story", the author, a registered nurse in the intensive care unit (ICU), struggles with a particularly
difficult patient case and must reflect upon her own values and subsequent judgments in order to
provide adequate nursing care. Empathy provides the nurse with the perspective that is necessary to
consider the most appropriate actions and interventions significant to a patient's individual
experience (Boggs. 2011, p.107). Failure of the nurse to empathize with a patient can result in a
strained therapeutic relationship as a result of providing inadequate emotional support and client
education (Boggs. 2011, p.107). In providing empathetic care it is important to mentally picture the
client's situation and perform self–checks, thereby assessing for personal bias and stereotypes
(Arnold. 2011 p. 84). Additionally, there are multiple barriers to providing empathetic care, which
include lack of time, lack of trust, lack of privacy, and lack of support, amongst others (Boggs. 2011,
p.115). The use of empathy within nursing practice requires the use of three major skills, which

Rittman Recreation Center Case Study
RITTMAN – The city's recreation center needs to be run more like a business and payroll costs
reduced, a councilman said.
Brian Smith, who is beginning his second year on council and owns a business, said he would like to
see the Rittman Recreation Center save money. Receipts at the center have dropped from $239,000
to $187,000, but payroll has gone up.
"I don't know a business that increases payroll when losing money," Smith said. "We need to save
money. ... This is not governmental accounting that baffles us, this is just basic (profit and loss)."
What Smith would like to see happen is a reduction in payroll, which is costing about $17,000 per

Councilman Rick Hanlon asked how a membership drive did last year, and Rec Center Director

opening up in Wooster, and the $10 a month fee with $1 down could have an impact on Rittman's

at it like an "indoor park – it's going to cost you money, a quality of life thing."

Gender Differences For Health And Quality Of Life Outcome
'Fight Or Flight': Gender Differences in Stressors and Coping Post MI
Marina Brawner

Nursing 503
October 21, 2014
Introduction
The increased acknowledgement of gender differences for health and quality of life outcome
indicates a necessity for more gender sensitivity and specificity in research undertakings among
patients with a myocardial infarction (MI). Heart disease research has historically been focused on
middle aged men. The prevalence for cardiac disease in women have been ubiquitous, it was not
until the 2000's, a shift occurred where elderly women were being diagnosed with heart disease
(Kristofferson, Lofmark, & Clarlsson 2003). Congruent with the male research focus, cardiac
rehabilitation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These findings give rise to the question of what gender differences exist in identifying and managing
stress after a myocardial infarction and how these differences affect one's health and quality of life
outcome.
Focus and Aim of the Review The leading cause of morbidity and mortality among men and women
is Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) which includes myocardial infarction. Studies suggest that
women are more likely than men to develop cardiac distress symptoms and complications following
a cardiac incident (Hallman, 2001). Furthermore, women are generally older when they have a
myocardial infarction and have specific attitudes towards recovery. This suggests that when
accommodating for a transformed health state in their daily living, women and men may use
different coping strategies to facilitate their rehabilitation (Sutherland & Jensen, 2000). Prior
literature has examined stressors and stress management behaviours in both men and women after a
myocardial infarction but there is a general paucity of data comparing gender differences in stressors
and coping in MI patients. Therefore, the aim of this review is to scrutinize and summarize
contemporary knowledge pertaining to gender differences in stressors and coping among MI
patients. It is imperative for cardiac rehabilitation nurses to recognize gender differences in stress

Road Levy Case
RITTMAN – The idea of instituting a road levy as a way to make street repairs more fair appears to
have run into a wall after the councilman driving the discussion applied the brakes.
Councilman Steve Johnson wanted his colleagues to explore the possibility of putting a levy on the
ballot for voters to decide, but in an effort to make the cost of street maintenance more fair, some
viewed it as unfair.
"Certain people have to pay and certain people don't," Johnson said, referring to the fact the city
does not assess property owners the cost of repairs when their roads are fixed using the chip–and–
seal method. While he said he believed a 1.5–mill levy would be more fair to everybody in the long
run, he realized some people will pay more because some are not paying for repairs right now.
An illustration used by Councilman Rick Hanlon is that someone will be the last person to pay an
assessment for street repairs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"But, we have to change it at some point," Councilman Ken Park said.
It doesn't seem fair those with chip–and–seal don't pay to maintain their roads, Hanlon added.
Because of the longevity of concrete roads, those property owners will likely not face road
assessments either.
Because of those scenarios, Park favored putting the question to Rittman's voters.
City Manager Larry Boggs said he has received a few comments about a road levy, and they were
all negative. One woman said she would rather pay for her street repairs when they come up every
10 years instead of paying for anybody else's.
"I think you'll get a lot of that," President Darrell Carey said.
Boggs said he is not sure if people fully understand the road levy.
The city might have other options to free up general fund money that could be used to fix street
repairs, Boggs suggested. This would include perhaps putting a police levy or another fire levy on
the ballot. This could take some stress of the general fund and make more money available for

How Does Bogg Show Interpersonal Communication
"I am not complete" (Burton, Edward Scissorhands). Edward, a nearly complete creation made by
an old inventor who died before he could be given his real hands, finds himself living in isolation in
a spooky mansion for seventeen long years before he is discovered by his future caregiver, Peg
Boggs. Aside from the fact that he was given a fearsome set of scissors in the place of hands,
Edward is also ill–equipped to interact and communicate with the people of the outside world.
Outside of the book of manners the inventor would read to him about how to properly act in certain
situations, Edward didn't have any human interaction until Peg (a door to door Avon associate)

love interest. It is at this point that Edward's role as an outcast is defined most clearly and frequently
by the neighborhood people. It is at this point when Edward most needs Peg's empathetic style of

The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn By Mark Twain
Many authors use satire to poke fun at certain issues to expose and call awareness to it. One author
that has a history of using satire in his novels and other literary works to indulge the reader deeper
into the meaning of his writing is Mark Twain. By using satire, he humorously draws attention to
some issues faced in American culture and other places around the world. A perfect example of his
use of satire is his novel Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Twain's widely read novel Adventures of
Huckleberry Finn uses satire as a tool to expose a few key issues faced in America, which are
organized religion, violence in American culture, human ignorance and gullibility. In 1861, Mark
Twain visited Salt Lake City, the Mormon capital of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"They laid him on the floor, and put one large Bible under his head, and opened another one and

reproduces a memory from Twain's childhood. About how there is one major difference from
Twain's real life account based off of two men name Owsley and Smarr, and his fictional account
including Sherburn and Boggs. "As judge, Twain's father collected twenty–eight depositions; the
verbal exchange between Boggs and Sherburn resembles Smarr and Owsley's. However, Leo Marx
notes that: The Bible placed on Bogg's breast is one of the few details for which no basis can be
found in the twenty–eight depositions..."(Amare, Manning 207). Twain was also known for
satirizing politician's names. Lilburn W. Boggs was the governor of Missouri in 1838, when he gave
an extermination order to kill all the Mormons in the winter if they did not leave Missouri. Four
years later, Boggs was shot but survived. "The symbolism of the Bibles laid on the dying Boggs
becomes clear: Mormons were persecuted as a threat to Orthodox Christianity, which Governor
Boggs "defended," and he was himself "martyred" for that orthodoxy (for which Twain himself had
little respect)" (Amare, Manning 208). The bible being placed on Bogg's chest when he dies has a
deeper meaning than just the surface layer. This satirizes

enjoyed playing the scene again. Then the townspeople, following the lead of Buck Harkness, all

Effective Communication As A Health Care Professional
Communication is about more than just exchanging information. It 's about understanding the
emotion and intentions behind the information. Effective communication is how you convey a
message so that it is received and understood by someone in exactly the way you intended (L.
Robinson, J. Segal, Ph. D., & M. Smith. 2015). This paper looks at the requirements of effective
communication as a health care professional and the essential concepts to have as a registered nurse.
Effective communication assists with many circumstances in clinical situations. Arnold, Boggs,
Barraclough, Levett–Jones and Grover have discussed that different communication styles can be
used to create stronger therapeutic relationships. Ideas supporting this argument are the effects of
establishing a strong client nurse relationship and understanding the bridges to help construct and
build a therapeutic relationship. Effective communication benefits us to enhance our understanding
of a person. Determining the appropriate communication style to be used enables us, as a health care
professional to resolve differences, build respect and trust, and be key in producing environments in
which problem solving, creating ideas and caring can flourish. A therapeutic relationship is
professional, interpersonal alliance in which the nurse and client join together for a defined period to
achieve health–related treatment goals (Arnold and Boggs, 2011 p. 38). The authors evaluate basic
communication concepts and how

Grace Lee Boggs Biography
Grace Lee Boggs was born in Providence, R.I., to Chinese immigrants in 1915, Boggs studied at
Barnard College and went on to earn her Ph.D. in philosophy from Bryn Mawr College. For years,
she pored over the work of Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, Karl Polanyi and Karl Marx, and even
translated three of Marx's essays from German to English. She was fascinated by the process and
challenge of thinking through complicated ideas. She developed a passion for marxism and other
people of those beliefs in college. She was also very hardworking. Her dedication and inspiration for
the complicated ideas from these famous people were building blocks for her development as a great
writer. After finishing grad school, Boggs struggled to find work – any work, she told a group of
students in 2012. "Even department stores would say, 'We don't hire Orientals,' " she recalled. So she
moved to the Midwest, where she found a job with the University of Chicago's philosophy library. It
paid only $10 a week, a stipend so low she was forced to find free housing in a rat–filled basement.

at 314). Unfortunately for Boggs, the court held that his complaint did not meet any–much less all–
of Grable's requirements. With regard to whether Boggs' complaint "necessarily raised" a federal
issue, the court found that it did not. Instead, the court found that the complaint merely "anticipates
a defense of privilege that Merideth may raise in response to Boggs' trespass of chattels claim – e.g.
'if the unmanned aircraft was flying on Merideth's property, his actions may have been privileged,
but if it was flying in federal airspace, they would not.'" But the court found that "where 'the right to
be vindicated is State–created' and the action was 'brought into the federal courts merely because an
anticipated defense derived from federal law," there is no Grable jurisdiction. To those in the drone
industry, the question whether a drone flying over private property is permissibly in the navigable
airspace or may be trespassing is a significant one. But, as the Drone Slayer case indicates, that
alone is apparently insufficient to confer federal question jurisdiction because it is not clear the issue
will significantly impact federal aviation law or the FAA's ability to regulate air safety and
navigation. This ruling will undoubtedly become more important as states and municipalities
consider bills that would hold harmless property owners who may damage a drone flying over their
private property. The current presidential administration's public

Paul Loeb's 'Soul Of A Citizen'
Through history many people have taken a stand and led a following to make sustainable changes in
the future. In Soul of a Citizen, author Paul Loeb tells stories of average citizens who have found
unexpected satisfaction in becoming socially and sustainably active. Loeb expresses that we need to
make movement from being a bystander in your own life to working to make a difference. Between
Muhammad Gandhi, Grace Lee Boggs, and Muhamad Yunus, there are three very different, very
solid, and very inspiring sustainably active minds that have drawn the attention of many people all
over the world. Their struggles date from 1893 when Gandhi started his movement to 2015 where
Muhammad Yunus and Grace Lee Boggs speak out still today. With their teachings ... Show more

He recollects about his views on the changes Gandhi made despite his introverted personality. "I like
viewing Gandhi not as the master strategist of social change that he later became, but as someone
who at first was literally tongue–tied–shyer and more intimidated than almost anyone we can
imagine. Given where he ended up on his subsequent journey, who knows what might be possible
for the rest of us" (Loeb). Loeb explains that often times the efforts of activism does not produce
immediate results. In most cases victories are only partial. The most important factor in protest is
perseverance. The hardest step is initiating the first phase which is just getting involved in the
community. Excuses range from "we're too busy" to "I'm too busy to handle holding on to a job,
paying the bills, and raising my children". Everyone is busy in their own lives. No matter how
pampered you are, there are always things to do. It is understood that some people may legitimately
not have time to volunteer for a cause. But there is always time to do something for the cause.
Donate money, food, time, etc. whatever you can to help. Loeb explains in one of his excerpts that
current times are troubled and we as a society should take advantage of them by looking at what is
causing these troubles. Economic, political, and cultural decisions are all topics to question when
looking at social issues within our nation and on an even broader scale, our world. Decisions that
will effect social issues should respect human worth and create a sustainable relationship with the
earth. Loeb quotes one his friends in his book, Pete Knutson, an Alaskan fisherman who has been
forced to degrade salmon populations for commercial profit. "We're living in an imperfect world, we
have to make choices and judgments that aren't always easy. But you start with basic ethics, like

Oh Brother Where Art Thou Analysis
This week as we watch O Brother, Where Art Thou? and The Piano, we are given two
parameters to compare and contrast the two. The techniques employed by the director
and the musical score show how these movies took different paths to keep the viewer
engaged at each step of the process. Even though the films tackle vastly different topics,
the ability of both "period pieces" (Petrie–Boggs 89) to tackle important issues bring them
together wonderfully. Although one film sticks to it's heart and soul unapologetic–ally, the
other makes no qualms about being inconsistent and still makes for an enjoyable experience.

"A crisis occurs when a stressful life event overwhelms an individual's ability to cope effectively in
the face of a perceived challenge or threat" (Arnold & Boggs, 2011, pg. 415). When people are

Huckleberry Finn Analysis Essay
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn Analysis Essay
"The situation of the orphan is truly the worst, you're a child, powerless, with no protectors or
guides. It's the most vulnerable position you can be in, to see someone overcome those odds tells us
something about the human spirit. They are often depicted as the kindest or most clever of
characters." Michelle Boisseau describes how important these types of characters are. In a Sunday
Times article, she states that a lot of the stories and novels are considered to be apologues about
orphans becoming the hero of the book. Huck's story is quite like this subject. The Adventures of

Another example of satire is the incident of Boggs in chapter twenty–one. After Boggs, the town
drunk, had clearly annoyed Colonel Sherburn with his nonsense, Sherburn had no choice but to pull
the trigger on Boggs, desperate to kill him. When Boggs is shot dead, everyone jumps with
excitement, all appalled of witnessing a shooting. Twain analyzes how the "loafers" imitate Boggs
calamity. As Huck sees this chaos in town, he describes the scene, "The streets was full, and
everybody was excited. Everybody that had seen the shooting was telling how it happened, and
there was a big crowd packed around each other... One long lanky man, marked down the place
where Boggs stood, and where Sherburn stood, they watched him mark the places on the ground
with his cane, and then he stood up and straight and stiff where Sherburn had stood, frowning and
having his hat–brim down over his eyes, and sung out, 'Boggs!' and then fetched his cane down slow
to a level, and says 'Bang!'" (Pg. 146). This quote supports the theme because here people have
enjoyed witnessing a real shooting. The people feel the need to celebrate and make fun of something
they don't realize it is something tragic and wrong. Twain has this quote as an example of man
versus society because it has Huck exposed to a

Examples Of Violence In Huckleberry Finn

people without reading the book would think that it is about just a young Missouri boy that found

"Recognizing the need, I applied for a planning grant with Emory University to study the feasibility

Patient Centered Care Essay
Attributes of a Professional Registered Nurse to Achieve Patient–Centered Care Patient–centered
care is the main goal not only in nursing, but all health care roles. There are many attributes that a
nurse must acquire in order to achieve patient–centered care. As providers of patient–centered and
ethical care, nurses must: act as advocates, keep their knowledge up to date, respect patients,
maintain patient confidentiality, promote health and self–wellness, and apply effective
communication skills. These main attributes jointly work together to succeed in patient–centered
care (Arnold & Boggs, 2016). Provide Ethical Care Following the appropriate ethics is of extreme
importance in the nursing profession. "Ethics are of universal concern and crucial in all professional
healthcare" (Gustafsson & Stenberg, 2017, p.420). The leading goal in nursing is to achieve patient–
centered care. According to Arnold and Boggs (2016), "Patient centered care focuses on fully
partnering with the client to provide care that incorporates his or her values and preferences to give
safe, caring, compassionate and effective care" (p.25). In order to provide a well–grounded, caring
environment, nurses need to be able to balance their personal differences with the ethical care
standards they are obligated to provide patients (Gustafsson & Stenberg, 2017). Nurses spend the
most time with patients; therefore, they eventually will develop a "sense of rightness" (Gustfasson &
Stenberg, 2017, p.420).

Individual Analysis of Working in a Group Situation Essay
Abstract In this paper I will describe and analyze my experience working in a group situation,
writing a paper on the movie 12 Angry Men. I will address therapeutic communication techniques
used in our group situation. I will address any conflicts that arose in our group. Utilizing Tuckman's
group process theory, I will also address the effectiveness of our group process. Individual Analysis
of Working in a Group Situation Learning how to work effectively in a group situation is key to
success in many professions as well as in social situations. Groups vary from each other based on

Our group was able to effectively function without a designated leader. As a group, we had many
strengths. I believe one of our biggest strengths was our effective communication. When we met in
person all the members of our group used therapeutic communication such as active listening,
paraphrasing, and summarizing. We were all very respectful of each other and maintained eye
contact and receptive nonverbal communication. There were several times during the movie that we
paused the movie to discuss the jurors' ages, professions, or the dynamics between the different
jurors. Normally it wouldn't be acceptable to repeatedly pause a movie for discussion, but it was
widely accepted among our group and did not cause any conflicts. Another form of communication
that our group used was the internet. It enabled us to receive papers via email attachment, and then
download, print, edit, and return the changes at our own leisure. The only drawback with using the
internet for communication is the lack of acknowledgement. In the future I will make sure that I ask
the recipient to acknowledge that they have received my communication. Groups do not always start
off fully–formed and functioning. Bruce Tuckman's model of the developmental sequence in small
groups suggests that groups grow through clearly defined stages, from their creation as groups of

The Sedition Act
Perhaps the most deadly flaw in human nature is its insatiable desire for power. The acquisition and
maintenance of power has been the subject of human thought ever since the dawn of its existence.
From Caesar's overthrow of the Roman Republic in the first century to Hitler's Third Reich in the
twentieth century, history has repeatedly proven man's incessant hunger for power. In an attempt to
curve this weakness of man, the authors of the United States Constitution included a Bill of Rights
in 1789 that limited the power of the United States government over its citizens. This document, as
remarkable as it is, has proven unable to restrain those in power from overstepping their bounds.
Leaders within the United States government have time, and time again, compromised on the laws
this document instilled by dismissing their encroaches as acts to ensure national security of or
general welfare, but for the purpose of increasing their dominion over those they obligated to ...

disagreed with them, such as the case of Marie Equi and Mollie Steimer. Marie Equi was a political

Mollie Steimer was also arrested and imprisoned for fifteen years on account for her denouncement

Movie Analysis : Bowling For Columbine
The Moral dilemma presented in the film, Bowling for Columbine, directed and written by Michael
Moore, is shown as the basis of the entire film, plot and characterization, which is the relentless
reality of America 's love affair with guns, violence and death as a way to resolve problems. Eric
Harris and Dylan Klebold the two students that led the Columbine shooting on April 20th 1999, in
Littleton Colorado led introverted lifestyles and careless attitudes that nobody would think twice
about, making it a shock that they were responsible for the Columbine High School massacre killing
12 students and injuring many others. In the very beginning of the movie, we see Moore establishing
the fact that it was very easy to get a gun just by opening up a bank account and purchasing bullets
from a nearby barber shop. The outline of the moral dilemma follows as such: is it right for anyone
to have a gun and use it to kill other people as they like.
The moral dilemma was presented through external and internal character action. External action is
what the character does and the relationship, purpose, conflicts that arise from the character 's
personality. "Perhaps the best reflections of character are a person 's actions" (Boggs and Petrie 62).
An example of external action throughout the movie is when Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold are said
to being bullied and as a result take their revenge out on their classmates. Being bullied throughout
their high school years develops into

(Boggs, Petrie, 2008) For them to create objects they first start with a blank screen and then they set
the scale of the computer to coordinate with the system for that element. The scale size usually is
anything from microns to light years across in size which are important and should be consistent
with all the elements in the project so the layers of lines are built up to the patches and that creates
the model that defines the shape of the object. (Boggs, Petrie, 2008) The modeler contains the power

objects move which helps the animation process begin the same way, with a storyboard. A
storyboard is a series of still images that shows how the elements will move and interact with each

assigned to objects in the animation. The animator must also have key points of movements for each
object in the scene. This helps the computer to produce motion for each object in a frame–by–frame

Example Of Heroism In Beowulf
The first story ever to be written was called Beowulf. Beowulf reflects a man with superhuman
powers fighting mythical monsters and dragons. People around the time that this story was told
thought of Beowulf as a hero. Beowulf, however, possessed multiple aspects about him that prove
otherwise. Although Beowulf had strength like none other, he enjoyed bragging about it and using it
for some selfish reasons. Since the time of Beowulf, the ideology of heroism has assimilated into
modern days conception of heroes, but core characteristics from Beowulf's time, such as strength
has remained.
First off, Beowulf's drive to battle evil has remained compatible with the image of heroes today. In
Beowulf, the hero himself has a desire to defeat all evil terrorizing local innocence. In the story the
author explains how Beowulf aspires to travel to Herot, a land tormented by a fearsome monster,
grendel, and exile him from life. This is often similar to how heroes today are thought of. On
Monday, July 15, a local 15 year old and his friends of Pennsylvania were recognized as heroes after
saving a young girl from abduction. Temar boggs and several of his friends heard that a little girl
had gone missing. They all rallied up and went looking after her. Boggs explained, "We got all of

Nursing has been a rapidly evolving profession for over the past few decades and the role of nursing
has become increasingly defined. Five distinct qualities that have become essential qualities for
nurses today are cultural competence, communication, empathy, teamwork and pride. This following
paper will discuss and explain the five qualities mentioned above and the symbols used to represent
each quality in our Coat of Arms. Cultural competence is a valuable quality nurses must process to

To symbolize cultural competence in our Coat of Arms, we chose to draw the flags that represent the
origin of all our group members in the center of our template. These flags include the Canadian flag,
the China flag and the Philippines flag. This represents the cultural diversity of Canada. Within our
group, there are only five members; however, there are already three different cultures represented!
In other words, almost all of our group members are from a different culture. This not only
represents the diversity of clients, but the diversity of nurses also; hence, cultural competence is not
only a significant component when interacting with clients, but it is also an important aspect when
collaborating with other nurses. Furthermore, the reason for placing the flags in the center is to
signify that culture is a central aspect of all human beings; it basically defines the person and who
he/she is. Communication is a key quality in many professions, but none more so than in the
profession of nursing. Nurses are primary health care professionals; therefore, they are usually the
first health care professional the client will encounter in a health care setting (Potter & Perry, 2010).
This emphasizes the importance of communication skills for nurses in two ways: first, nurses will
need to effectively communicate with the client to appropriately gather all needed

Grace Lee Bogg Essay
Personal Narrative as Protest American Revolutionary: The Evolution of Grace Lee Boggs explores
a form of protest that is not often highly regarded or even discussed: the personal narrative. When
taught about political and social movements, kids in middle and high school are taught about the
iconized persons who fought against systems of inequality– Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks,
Susan B. Anthony, to name a few. They are also taught that these important people are directly
fighting against something, whether it is a person, idea, or group. What is not taught, though, is that
one's own personal narrative, in the form of reflection and expression, is protest. When this is
ignored as often as it is, people are unaware of the power they possess and therefore distance
themselves from both the activists that have been so idolized and the ability to effect change that we
all innately possess. This lack of acknowledging personal narratives also creates the impression that

Example Of Racial Identity

  • 1. Example Of Racial Identity As a result of the white heteropatriarchy prevailing over the United States, each minority American undergoes a unique struggle to establish an individual racial identity. Minorities define themselves in relation to their races based on differentiating qualities such as ethnicity, class, gender and sexuality. Two documentary films that star minority figures and describe how race shaped these figures' stories are American Revolutionary: The Evolution of Grace Lee Boggs, directed by Grace Lee and O.J.: Made In America, directed by Ezra Edelman. These films differ in their content and structure because the former shares a positive story about a Chinese–American woman's rise to success as an activist, whereas the latter explains the harrowing background and circumstances that corrupted a successful African–American male athlete. Grace Lee Boggs presents a confounding example of racial identity in that she aligns herself closely with black issues rather than Chinese– American or female causes. The articles "The Chinese Exclusion Example: Race, Immigration, and American Gatekeeping, 1882–1924" by Erika Lee and "When Whiteness Feminizes...: Some Consequences of a Supplementary Logic" by Rey Chow offer historical context surrounding Boggs's identity by clarifying that Boggs emerged after the height of anti–Asian immigration policies and of white feminist theory. Unlike Grace Lee Boggs' subconscious distancing from identifying as a Chinese–American woman, O.J. Simpson intentionally ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Huckleberry Finn Morality Essay Joel Cann says, "You don't need religion to have morals. If you can't determine right from wrong then you lack empathy, not religion." In The Adventure of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, a fifteen year old boy, Huckleberry Finn, experiences several situations of moral degradation in the 1800s. Huck has conflict with his conscience when he tries to follow his heart and not obtain the characteristics of a deformed society. Huck struggles morally when he encounters child abuse, dishonesty, and murder situations. Huck's morals are affected when he experiences child abuse from his father. For instance, when Huck is encounters abuse by his father, he is left with an affected morality. Huck's father came back to Hannibal when he found out that Huck had money and Pap wanted it. Huck's father ruined his relationship with his son by abusing him. Huck states, ¨So he watched out for me one day in the spring and catched me and took me up the river about ... Colonel Sherburn is the wealthiest man in their town and is a store owner that Boggs insults. As Huck narrates, "'O´ lord don't shoot!' Bang! goes the first shot, and he staggers back, clawing at the air–Bang!" (143). Witnessing a murderous situation like Colonel Sherburn murdering Boggs had a major affect on Huck's morals such as experiencing how deformed the society was. Also, Huck witnessed Boggs falling and dying on the ground. Huck narrates, "He tumbles backwards onto the ground, heavy and solid, with his arms spread out" (143). Tamar Boggs a 15 year old boy at the time saved a 5 year old little girl by the name of Jocelyn Rojon from being kidnapped. Jocelyn had been missing for more than two hours by the time Tamar Boggs was aware of it. "Jocelyn had been missing for almost 2 hours..." When Tamar Boggs was notified of the missing little girl he borrowed his friends BMX bike to go find her with a friend. Tamar had a feeling in him that he was going to find her. • 7. Grief Theory 1. Arnold and Boggs (2016) defined grief as a holistic, adaptive process that a person goes through following a significant loss. Grief varies from person to person. Grief is most likely associated with a death of a loved one, but can also be associated with any loss. Certain events and holidays can cause the grief to resurface. Grief is more than sadness and is described as an unexpected punch in the gut (Arnold and Boggs, 2016). The patterns of grief are: acute grief, anticipatory grief, chronic sorrow, and complicated grieving. Acute grief occurs as somatic distress and lasts a short time. Anticipatory grief is the response before a person dies and a person thinking about their death can cause it too. Chronic sorrow is as "a normal grief response associated with ongoing living loss that is permanent, progressive, recurring, and cyclic in nature" (Arnold and Boggs, 2016). Complicated grieving is longer and an intense expression of grief. The five stage model of death and dying of Elisabeth Kübler–Ross is a theoretical framework related to the grieving process. The five stages are: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. Denial can be either temporary or last throughout one's illness. Denial is when a person refuses to believe that they have an illness, "No, not me." Anger produces feelings of unfairness and they become angry at God and projects anger on to close loved ones. Bargaining is when the person requests extra time. In the depression stage, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. As You Like It and Edward Scissorhands Essay Inherent within humanity is the need to belong, in which an individual must accept one another in order to achieve a greater sense of connectedness and identity. This is firstly evident in Shakespeare's As You Like It whereby the ideas of love are used to reveal how relationships are fundamental to one's sense of belonging. Act 1 Scene 3 explores belonging and not belonging through love and nature as it establishes the plot at the mark of separation from court and country by Rosalind and Celia breaking the sense of belonging to place. Celia and Rosalind convey a strong bond evident in Celia's plea to her father, Duke Frederick, to keep Rosalind at court rather than banishing her to the Forest of Arden. Conventions of love are evident ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These settings are symbolic of the lack of belonging which is felt when the natural order is destroyed and baser natural instincts conquer positive feelings. "Now go we in content, to liberty and not to banishment" concludes the scene with a rhyming couplet giving the scene a positive ending through a tone of contentment that arises from a greater sense of belonging and connection between individuals. Similarly, the film by Tim Burton, Edward Scissorhands portrays deep ideas about belonging whereby notions of acceptance and identity are illustrated through the use of filming techniques. Love and acceptance are challenged when Peg Boggs, the Avon representative rescues Edward from the mansion on top of the hill where he has spent his entirety. Upon Peg entering, a wide shot shows the sun shining into the mansion symbolising how the outside world has forever shone through but never been explored. The fear and disappointment of being judged for the hands that his inventor was never able to give him as "he never woke up" has left him in solidarity disconnected from society. • 11. Manhood In The Film, Magnolia "No man has ever risen to the real stature of spiritual manhood until he has found that it is finer to serve somebody else than it is to serve himself" –Woodrow Wilson. What truly classifies a man as "manly"? To some, manhood is a sense of authority over others, and to others, manhood is shown by love, compassion, and providing security for those around them. Portrayed as a fast paced film, Magnolia depicts a story of shattered families, unforeseen relations, catastrophe, second chances, and differences in life choices. The theme of a film, or any work, is the subject or topic. Roger Ebert expresses in his review of Magnolia how the opening sequence, a narrated TV special about coincidence, sets up the entire theme of the film: "It sets ... I hoped to use multiple communication techniques such as the use of open ended questions and general leads. We were both seated at a table and there was plenty of background noise as there were multiple people eating and having conversations. I used silence to allow for the client to think about how she was feeling. I also used facial expressions to show my interest and curiosity. I was beginning to become worried and anxious that I would not be able to complete the assignment because I wasn't receiving the information I was expecting from this interaction. • 19. Empathy, An Essential Concept For Nursing Practice Empathy is defined as the ability to communicate an understanding of a client's feelings, and is a crucial component of the helping relationship (Boggs. 2011, p.106). Empathy is an essential concept to nursing practice as it allows the nurse to gain perspective in order to provide appropriate actions and interventions significant to that patient's individual experience. In Tilda Shalof's "A Nurses' Story", the author, a registered nurse in the intensive care unit (ICU), struggles with a particularly difficult patient case and must reflect upon her own values and subsequent judgments in order to provide adequate nursing care. Empathy provides the nurse with the perspective that is necessary to consider the most appropriate actions and interventions significant to a patient's individual experience (Boggs. 2011, p.107). Failure of the nurse to empathize with a patient can result in a strained therapeutic relationship as a result of providing inadequate emotional support and client education (Boggs. 2011, p.107). In providing empathetic care it is important to mentally picture the client's situation and perform self–checks, thereby assessing for personal bias and stereotypes (Arnold. 2011 p. 84). Additionally, there are multiple barriers to providing empathetic care, which include lack of time, lack of trust, lack of privacy, and lack of support, amongst others (Boggs. 2011, p.115). The use of empathy within nursing practice requires the use of three major skills, which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Brian Smith, who is beginning his second year on council and owns a business, said he would like to see the Rittman Recreation Center save money. Receipts at the center have dropped from $239,000 to $187,000, but payroll has gone up. "I don't know a business that increases payroll when losing money," Smith said. "We need to save money. ... This is not governmental accounting that baffles us, this is just basic (profit and loss)." What Smith would like to see happen is a reduction in payroll, which is costing about $17,000 per month. "We have to be responsible for taxpayer dollars." Councilman Rick Hanlon asked how a membership drive did last year, and Rec Center Director Garrick DiSalvo said it brought in about $2,700 in the month of December. A Planet Fitness is opening up in Wooster, and the $10 a month fee with $1 down could have an impact on Rittman's membership numbers. While Rittman has added a 24–hour access option to appeal to more members, the price for Planet Fitness is a good one, DiSalvo said. Councilman Steve Johnson said he was involved with the Rec Center before it was established, and the understanding was it would never break even. Those who were in on creating the center looked at it like an "indoor park – it's going to cost you money, a quality of life thing." However, it does not mean the city shouldn't look at the operating costs, Johnson added. The center was built at a time when the paperboard company was still in town with about 300 workers and the state was providing more revenue to the city in local government funds. • 23. Gender Differences For Health And Quality Of Life Outcome 'Fight Or Flight': Gender Differences in Stressors and Coping Post MI Marina Brawner University of Alberta Nursing 503 October 21, 2014 Introduction The increased acknowledgement of gender differences for health and quality of life outcome indicates a necessity for more gender sensitivity and specificity in research undertakings among patients with a myocardial infarction (MI). Heart disease research has historically been focused on middle aged men. The prevalence for cardiac disease in women have been ubiquitous, it was not until the 2000's, a shift occurred where elderly women were being diagnosed with heart disease (Kristofferson, Lofmark, & Clarlsson 2003). Congruent with the male research focus, cardiac rehabilitation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These findings give rise to the question of what gender differences exist in identifying and managing stress after a myocardial infarction and how these differences affect one's health and quality of life outcome. Focus and Aim of the Review The leading cause of morbidity and mortality among men and women is Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) which includes myocardial infarction. Studies suggest that women are more likely than men to develop cardiac distress symptoms and complications following a cardiac incident (Hallman, 2001). Furthermore, women are generally older when they have a myocardial infarction and have specific attitudes towards recovery. This suggests that when accommodating for a transformed health state in their daily living, women and men may use different coping strategies to facilitate their rehabilitation (Sutherland & Jensen, 2000). Prior literature has examined stressors and stress management behaviours in both men and women after a myocardial infarction but there is a general paucity of data comparing gender differences in stressors and coping in MI patients. Therefore, the aim of this review is to scrutinize and summarize contemporary knowledge pertaining to gender differences in stressors and coping among MI patients. It is imperative for cardiac rehabilitation nurses to recognize gender differences in stress and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. Road Levy Case RITTMAN – The idea of instituting a road levy as a way to make street repairs more fair appears to have run into a wall after the councilman driving the discussion applied the brakes. Councilman Steve Johnson wanted his colleagues to explore the possibility of putting a levy on the ballot for voters to decide, but in an effort to make the cost of street maintenance more fair, some viewed it as unfair. "Certain people have to pay and certain people don't," Johnson said, referring to the fact the city does not assess property owners the cost of repairs when their roads are fixed using the chip–and– seal method. While he said he believed a 1.5–mill levy would be more fair to everybody in the long run, he realized some people will pay more because some are not paying for repairs right now. "But, we have to change it at some point," Councilman Ken Park said. It doesn't seem fair those with chip–and–seal don't pay to maintain their roads, Hanlon added. Because of the longevity of concrete roads, those property owners will likely not face road assessments either. Because of those scenarios, Park favored putting the question to Rittman's voters. City Manager Larry Boggs said he has received a few comments about a road levy, and they were all negative. One woman said she would rather pay for her street repairs when they come up every 10 years instead of paying for anybody else's. "I think you'll get a lot of that," President Darrell Carey said. Boggs said he is not sure if people fully understand the road levy. The city might have other options to free up general fund money that could be used to fix street repairs, Boggs suggested. This would include perhaps putting a police levy or another fire levy on the ballot. This could take some stress of the general fund and make more money available for ... • 31. The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn By Mark Twain Many authors use satire to poke fun at certain issues to expose and call awareness to it. One author that has a history of using satire in his novels and other literary works to indulge the reader deeper into the meaning of his writing is Mark Twain. By using satire, he humorously draws attention to some issues faced in American culture and other places around the world. A perfect example of his use of satire is his novel Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Twain's widely read novel Adventures of Huckleberry Finn uses satire as a tool to expose a few key issues faced in America, which are organized religion, violence in American culture, human ignorance and gullibility. Boggs was the governor of Missouri in 1838, when he gave an extermination order to kill all the Mormons in the winter if they did not leave Missouri. Four years later, Boggs was shot but survived. "The symbolism of the Bibles laid on the dying Boggs becomes clear: Mormons were persecuted as a threat to Orthodox Christianity, which Governor Boggs "defended," and he was himself "martyred" for that orthodoxy (for which Twain himself had little respect)" (Amare, Manning 208). It 's about understanding the emotion and intentions behind the information. Effective communication is how you convey a message so that it is received and understood by someone in exactly the way you intended (L. Robinson, J. Segal, Ph. D., & M. Smith. 2015). This paper looks at the requirements of effective communication as a health care professional and the essential concepts to have as a registered nurse. Effective communication assists with many circumstances in clinical situations. Arnold, Boggs, Barraclough, Levett–Jones and Grover have discussed that different communication styles can be used to create stronger therapeutic relationships. Ideas supporting this argument are the effects of establishing a strong client nurse relationship and understanding the bridges to help construct and build a therapeutic relationship. Effective communication benefits us to enhance our understanding of a person. Determining the appropriate communication style to be used enables us, as a health care professional to resolve differences, build respect and trust, and be key in producing environments in which problem solving, creating ideas and caring can flourish. A therapeutic relationship is professional, interpersonal alliance in which the nurse and client join together for a defined period to achieve health–related treatment goals (Arnold and Boggs, 2011 p. 38). For years, she pored over the work of Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, Karl Polanyi and Karl Marx, and even translated three of Marx's essays from German to English. Dismissed on jurisdictional grounds, the ruling leaves open many questions concerning aerial trespass and federal authority. Boggs sued Merideth in federal court in Kentucky seeking a declaratory judgment and money damages after Merideth shot down Boggs' unmanned aircraft, or "drone," with a firearm, earning Merideth the nickname "Drone Slayer." Unfortunately for Boggs, the court held that his complaint did not meet any–much less all– of Grable's requirements. With regard to whether Boggs' complaint "necessarily raised" a federal issue, the court found that it did not. Instead, the court found that the complaint merely "anticipates a defense of privilege that Merideth may raise in response to Boggs' trespass of chattels claim – e.g. 'if the unmanned aircraft was flying on Merideth's property, his actions may have been privileged, but if it was flying in federal airspace, they would not.'" But the court found that "where 'the right to be vindicated is State–created' and the action was 'brought into the federal courts merely because an anticipated defense derived from federal law," there is no Grable jurisdiction. To those in the drone industry, the question whether a drone flying over private property is permissibly in the navigable airspace or may be trespassing is a significant one. But, as the Drone Slayer case indicates, that alone is apparently insufficient to confer federal question jurisdiction because it is not clear the issue will significantly impact federal aviation law or the FAA's ability to regulate air safety and navigation. This ruling will undoubtedly become more important as states and municipalities consider bills that would hold harmless property owners who may damage a drone flying over their private property. In Soul of a Citizen, author Paul Loeb tells stories of average citizens who have found unexpected satisfaction in becoming socially and sustainably active. Loeb expresses that we need to make movement from being a bystander in your own life to working to make a difference. Between Muhammad Gandhi, Grace Lee Boggs, and Muhamad Yunus, there are three very different, very solid, and very inspiring sustainably active minds that have drawn the attention of many people all over the world. Their struggles date from 1893 when Gandhi started his movement to 2015 where Muhammad Yunus and Grace Lee Boggs speak out still today. With their teachings ... Given where he ended up on his subsequent journey, who knows what might be possible for the rest of us" (Loeb). Loeb explains that often times the efforts of activism does not produce immediate results. In most cases victories are only partial. The most important factor in protest is perseverance. The hardest step is initiating the first phase which is just getting involved in the community. Excuses range from "we're too busy" to "I'm too busy to handle holding on to a job, paying the bills, and raising my children". Everyone is busy in their own lives. No matter how pampered you are, there are always things to do. It is understood that some people may legitimately not have time to volunteer for a cause. But there is always time to do something for the cause. Donate money, food, time, etc. whatever you can to help. Loeb explains in one of his excerpts that current times are troubled and we as a society should take advantage of them by looking at what is causing these troubles. Economic, political, and cultural decisions are all topics to question when looking at social issues within our nation and on an even broader scale, our world. Decisions that will effect social issues should respect human worth and create a sustainable relationship with the earth. Loeb quotes one his friends in his book, Pete Knutson, an Alaskan fisherman who has been forced to degrade salmon populations for commercial profit. • 54. Patient Centered Care Essay Attributes of a Professional Registered Nurse to Achieve Patient–Centered Care Patient–centered care is the main goal not only in nursing, but all health care roles. There are many attributes that a nurse must acquire in order to achieve patient–centered care. As providers of patient–centered and ethical care, nurses must: act as advocates, keep their knowledge up to date, respect patients, maintain patient confidentiality, promote health and self–wellness, and apply effective communication skills. These main attributes jointly work together to succeed in patient–centered care (Arnold & Boggs, 2016). Provide Ethical Care Following the appropriate ethics is of extreme importance in the nursing profession. "Ethics are of universal concern and crucial in all professional healthcare" (Gustafsson & Stenberg, 2017, p.420). The leading goal in nursing is to achieve patient– centered care. According to Arnold and Boggs (2016), "Patient centered care focuses on fully partnering with the client to provide care that incorporates his or her values and preferences to give safe, caring, compassionate and effective care" (p.25). In order to provide a well–grounded, caring environment, nurses need to be able to balance their personal differences with the ethical care standards they are obligated to provide patients (Gustafsson & Stenberg, 2017). • 58. The Sedition Act Perhaps the most deadly flaw in human nature is its insatiable desire for power. The acquisition and maintenance of power has been the subject of human thought ever since the dawn of its existence. From Caesar's overthrow of the Roman Republic in the first century to Hitler's Third Reich in the twentieth century, history has repeatedly proven man's incessant hunger for power. In an attempt to curve this weakness of man, the authors of the United States Constitution included a Bill of Rights in 1789 that limited the power of the United States government over its citizens. This document, as remarkable as it is, has proven unable to restrain those in power from overstepping their bounds. Leaders within the United States government have time, and time again, compromised on the laws this document instilled by dismissing their encroaches as acts to ensure national security of or general welfare, but for the purpose of increasing their dominion over those they obligated to ... Violation of this decree resulted in imprisonment for up to twenty years. Obviously, the law was in direct conflict of the 1st Amendment right guaranteeing free speech. The law gave the federal government power to imprison anyone who disagreed with them, such as the case of Marie Equi and Mollie Steimer. Marie Equi was a political activist who opposed World War One, and as such was arrested and imprisoned for three years. Mollie Steimer was also arrested and imprisoned for fifteen years on account for her denouncement of American actions in Russia regarding the Bolshevik Revolution. Both women (and many like them) held contempt for government action, petitioned for redress, and were silenced under the penalty of law; a situation illegal under the Bill of ... • 62. Movie Analysis : Bowling For Columbine The Moral dilemma presented in the film, Bowling for Columbine, directed and written by Michael Moore, is shown as the basis of the entire film, plot and characterization, which is the relentless reality of America 's love affair with guns, violence and death as a way to resolve problems. Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold the two students that led the Columbine shooting on April 20th 1999, in Littleton Colorado led introverted lifestyles and careless attitudes that nobody would think twice about, making it a shock that they were responsible for the Columbine High School massacre killing 12 students and injuring many others. In the very beginning of the movie, we see Moore establishing the fact that it was very easy to get a gun just by opening up a bank account and purchasing bullets from a nearby barber shop. The outline of the moral dilemma follows as such: is it right for anyone to have a gun and use it to kill other people as they like. The moral dilemma was presented through external and internal character action. External action is what the character does and the relationship, purpose, conflicts that arise from the character 's personality. "Perhaps the best reflections of character are a person 's actions" (Boggs and Petrie 62). An example of external action throughout the movie is when Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold are said to being bullied and as a result take their revenge out on their classmates. (Boggs, Petrie, 2008) For them to create objects they first start with a blank screen and then they set the scale of the computer to coordinate with the system for that element. The scale size usually is anything from microns to light years across in size which are important and should be consistent with all the elements in the project so the layers of lines are built up to the patches and that creates the model that defines the shape of the object. (Boggs, Petrie, 2008) The modeler contains the power of design; which the animator provides the illusion of life. The animator also uses tools to make objects move which helps the animation process begin the same way, with a storyboard. A storyboard is a series of still images that shows how the elements will move and interact with each other. This process is important to the animator because it helps decide what movements need to be assigned to objects in the animation. The animator must also have key points of movements for each object in the scene. This helps the computer to produce motion for each object in a frame–by–frame sequence. The final product when put together, gives the look of fluid movement which when the modeler is formed, the animator provides motion. • 68. Example Of Heroism In Beowulf The first story ever to be written was called Beowulf. Beowulf reflects a man with superhuman powers fighting mythical monsters and dragons. People around the time that this story was told thought of Beowulf as a hero. Beowulf, however, possessed multiple aspects about him that prove otherwise. Although Beowulf had strength like none other, he enjoyed bragging about it and using it for some selfish reasons. Since the time of Beowulf, the ideology of heroism has assimilated into modern days conception of heroes, but core characteristics from Beowulf's time, such as strength has remained. First off, Beowulf's drive to battle evil has remained compatible with the image of heroes today. In Beowulf, the hero himself has a desire to defeat all evil terrorizing local innocence. In the story the author explains how Beowulf aspires to travel to Herot, a land tormented by a fearsome monster, grendel, and exile him from life. This is often similar to how heroes today are thought of. On Monday, July 15, a local 15 year old and his friends of Pennsylvania were recognized as heroes after saving a young girl from abduction. Temar boggs and several of his friends heard that a little girl had gone missing. They all rallied up and went looking after her. Boggs explained, "We got all of our friends to go look for her"(Caulfield 1). Nursing has been a rapidly evolving profession for over the past few decades and the role of nursing has become increasingly defined. Five distinct qualities that have become essential qualities for nurses today are cultural competence, communication, empathy, teamwork and pride. This following paper will discuss and explain the five qualities mentioned above and the symbols used to represent each quality in our Coat of Arms. Cultural competence is a valuable quality nurses must process to provide quality care. This quality is especially crucial in Canada, as Canada is known for it's culturally diversity. This quality that was first brought forth by a well–distinguished nurse named Madeleine Leininger (Leever, 2011). Leininger believed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To symbolize cultural competence in our Coat of Arms, we chose to draw the flags that represent the origin of all our group members in the center of our template. These flags include the Canadian flag, the China flag and the Philippines flag. This represents the cultural diversity of Canada. Within our group, there are only five members; however, there are already three different cultures represented! In other words, almost all of our group members are from a different culture. This not only represents the diversity of clients, but the diversity of nurses also; hence, cultural competence is not only a significant component when interacting with clients, but it is also an important aspect when collaborating with other nurses. Furthermore, the reason for placing the flags in the center is to signify that culture is a central aspect of all human beings; it basically defines the person and who he/she is. Communication is a key quality in many professions, but none more so than in the profession of nursing. Nurses are primary health care professionals; therefore, they are usually the first health care professional the client will encounter in a health care setting (Potter & Perry, 2010). This emphasizes the importance of communication skills for nurses in two ways: first, nurses will need to effectively communicate with the client to appropriately gather all needed ... He is first seen wearing a black costume but once he returns home to Peggy's home she puts 'normal' colourful clothes on him. However, he does not remove his original outfit and this symbolises the fact that he is different but people are trying to make him assimilate and fit in. Peg Boggs "Let me get you some towels and I'll see what we can find for you to wear. You know what? I think I have some of Bill's old clothes in here. This is perfect! Here. These should just fit you." This scene also illustrates his dependence on other people which shows that outsiders tend to depend on other people as a source of inclusion. • 76. Grace Lee Bogg Essay Personal Narrative as Protest American Revolutionary: The Evolution of Grace Lee Boggs explores a form of protest that is not often highly regarded or even discussed: the personal narrative. When taught about political and social movements, kids in middle and high school are taught about the iconized persons who fought against systems of inequality– Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Susan B. Anthony, to name a few. They are also taught that these important people are directly fighting against something, whether it is a person, idea, or group. What is not taught, though, is that one's own personal narrative, in the form of reflection and expression, is protest. When this is ignored as often as it is, people are unaware of the power they possess and therefore distance themselves from both the activists that have been so idolized and the ability to effect change that we all innately possess. This lack of acknowledging personal narratives also creates the impression that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I am of the opinion that every single thing you have ever done, every person you have ever met, and every experience you have ever had, is a part of who you are.
