The Swing By Jean-Honore Fragonard Essay
The eighteenth century, rococo era, remained a light–hearted time being pre–revolutionary.
Transpired a period that the postmodern world would attempt to emulate. After Louis XIV died,
things became more excessive. Sculpture became more delicately carved while architecture
metamorphose a more decorative and successful. Paintings of the aristocracy in pastel colors,
showing themes of fantasy, pleasure, and sensuality as they were more commonly asked for.
Women's textile dresses were excessive, to say the least. Rooms were smaller to make everything
else look more extreme. The Swing by Jean–Honore Fragonard has been described as the
embodiment of the Rococo era paintings. Born in Grasse of the French Riviera, 1732, Fragonard,
spent most of his time studying at the studio of François Boucher after his family moved to Paris.
After being awarded the Prix de Rome, a French scholarship, he continued his ... Show more content

In reality, it is a garden. The fact that it is overgrown and energetic only gives it more of a sexual
and sensual being. Looming in a mist, it gives a dreamƒlike look. On the right side, you can vaguely
make out the villa or palace that the garden belongs to, although it is for the most part concealed by
the trees. Most of the trees are lush and full of life while others have no foliage at all. This style is
called the blast and the bough and is thought to represent the passion behind The Swing. The free
and easy nature is all the more emphasized by the loose brushstrokes. In this overgrown garden, a
Madame, in a fluffy, creamy pink dress that billows around her in the style of the time, is sitting on a
swing with a velvet cushion and gold ropes. She is being pushed by her appearing to be husband. He
is an older man giving the viewer that it was an arranged marriage. Originally this was not supposed
to be her husband, but a bishop. That was changed due to the fact the Fragonard deemed it too

Personal Narrative-My Ackerman 3 Place
The warm Florida heat beats my shoulders, and sweat drips down my spine. Large touristgroups

the families swarming the sides of the streets, a rush of impatience shoots up myspine. The
fragrance of kettlecorn wafted down the street. Flavorless saliva fills my mouth, andmy eyes devour

The stone remains cold from decades of freezing winter nights as it sat neglected andunwanted. The
couches is decorated in a faded flaming pattern of roses. The musty smell continues into the library.
Shelves of forgotten novels line the fourwalls, and a large window is strategically placed between
two of the shelves. The lights hangingfrom the ceiling are dimmed, and the melodic ringing of wind
could be heard. Bodies crowdtogether in the small room, and all heads gaze at one single item. The
television growls awarning, but it is set up in the form of a welcome to the hotel. Above the shelves
sit manyknickknacks: a beat up camera, adusty music box, a rickety old fortune telling machine,
andeven a vintage girl's doll sits on the wall with beady eyes staring down at me. I gaze at my
oldfriends. Their presence adds a hype to the idea of what awaits. The television blanks out and
thefamiliar spike in my heartbeat comes, and there goes the lightning right on queue. The creek
ofthe door is heard over the rumbling of voices, when a bright light blinds my vision for a
quicksecond. A heated breeze flocks into the room from the shadowy corridor. The empty smell of
steam surrounds, and it caresses my arms the further into the room Igo. The cold brick walls brush
against my arms as families rush past me. The concrete floorchanges into a steel bridge. Over the
railing, the boilers cascade down to the floor standing talland rusted. The smell of oil and steel
disgustingly mix. The sound of my feet clattering againstthe steel reverberates around the room. The
bridge splits into two and leads the newcomers intoan aloof. I remember, in the end it doesn't matter;
however, I am pulled to the right. The redboilers line the path as it slowly descends. The clatter of
footsteps follows, and the steam in theroom thickens, crushing me. I turn to the elephant in the
room. A steely service elevator door threatens the room in amagnificent haze of power. Above the

Summary of poem:
The poem starts out with a highwayman (this is a thief who use to hold people's carriages they
usually come on horseback) visiting his girlfriend Bess who is the daughter of an innkeeper. He's on
the move (meaning he will be back the next day after he has robbed some people) so he only has
time for one kiss. But in the shadows Tim the ostler who loves Bess listens and tells the red coats.
The next evening, instead of the highwayman, some British soldiers show up. These guys are real
jerks. They drink a bunch of beer, they tie Bess tightly with ropes and put a bayonet beneath her
chin, and after that they then wait at the windows to murder the highwayman when he comes back.
But then Bess wriggles around until she has her finger on the trigger. when she hears the
highwayman's horse, she fires the bayonet, and gives her life to warn him about the ambush. ...

Caribou Descriptive Writing
I Inhale a breath of icy fresh air as I release the string on my bow. The arrow whistles sharply
through the air until "splat" the front end of the arrow plunges deep into the Caribous thorax. The
Caribou jars its head up and collapses as its legs buckles beneath him. I silently place my bow back
into its hid satchel, which is strapped behind my back, cautiously walking towards the carcass. First
I verify that the animal is dead, by observing the stillness of his chest. Then I pull the arrow out
gingerly, and I watch as a scarlet stream of blood cascades out of the wound melting the snow to
create little lagoon. Planting myself in the snow beside the carcass and I begin my routine, first
retrieving a small rag from my satchel to wipe off the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Warm light is spilling out of the cabin, a shiver is sent up my spine as I remember what it feels like
to sit by a nice warm fire. But I must not shirk, I will have to spend at least a few hours preparing
the Caribou meat properly and drying out and cleaning the organs. I take off the bags of meat and
trudge through the heavy snow towards the meat house. I get inside the tiny meat house and the
smell of salt hits me like a wall. In the meat house is racks and racks of dried meat and a huge ice
box in the corner where I store some of it, there is also a wooden counter where I will lay out and
cast the meat in salts to preserve it properly. It is cold and dark in the meat house so I pull a match
out of my satchel and light a candle. I find a certain peace in preparing meat, which is kind of weird
but I am really passionate about my job. Hours later I am finished and I blow out the candle and
head towards the house, my stomach is growling and I realise that I had not eaten since I broke my
fast. As I walk the worn path to the cabin, I look up at the sky and see a millions and billions of stars
sprinkled across the galaxy I stare amazed it's a great day to be alive. I open the door to the cabin
and a warm delicious aroma surrounds me. I stomp off the snow from my moccasins before I walk

It might be just as my twin said, "When you go to a new domain, you can lie about your past"

Some smelled like year old gym sweet and others smelled more like the sickly sweet aroma of the
bakery where they had no doubt spent their day. I sat down upon the small brick wall that I had been
leaning upon for what felt like an eternity. Of course i did this with the help of my broad shouldered
father who was almost as tried as I, a small blond four year old. After frolicing around Disney World
all day, meeting my idols had left me physically and mentally exhausted. Better yet we were
engulfed in this wretched humidity that could only be produced by a summer day in Florida. I
wished for sleep, to escape the hoards of people, the extensive lines, and the most annoying of all,
the screaming children being micromanaged by their unintelligent guardians. Still knowing that the

My Experience In New York City
Looking around, I had seen diversity like I'd never seen before. I was in another world. Even though
New York City can be a dangerous place, I felt comfortable there. My view of Kansas is now
forever changed. On that trip, I found out what I wanted to do during my adult life. My back was
sore from waiting in the stiff airport chair. I sat there staring at all the travelers moseying their way
to a seat or hurrying to their gate. Just a few hours ago, I was at school, eating lunch with my fifth
grade class. Then all of a sudden, my mom was there saying I had an appointment she had forgot
about. We shuffled across the tile floor to the office. I studied the orange fish in the tank by the
secretary's desk, waiting for my sister. When she arrived, my mom took out her phone and held it up
like she was going to take a picture. I raised an eyebrow in confusion. My mom handed us each a
tiny envelope with a list of things we needed to pack. My confusion quickly transformed into delight
when I read the bottom of the page. It said that we were leaving for New York City that evening! We
drove home and packed our things, then headed to KCI. I tried my best to sit still and contain my
excitement. After going through the maze of ropes, people, luggage, and metal scanners, our trip
was ready to start! Except it didn't.
After waiting in the airport for an hour, we boarded the plane. I peered out the window at the
enormous white wing of the plane, imagining how smooth it will fly through

Bruno Is Not Dead
ONE
Bruno is not dead. His voice still rings in my head, his scent of cacao and dirt still linger in my nose.
I wish I could touch him and wrap my arms around torso, and tell him how sorry I am. But I cannot,
I am a coward. I am afraid of looking at my son. I know that he is still around, I can feel him
following me. I can feel his cold stare lurking behind me, I can feel the guilt he put upon me.
Whenever you lose something, a necklace, your keys or whatever. Everyone tells you to look in the
last place you saw it. You search everywhere, but without luck it is nowhere. The last place I was
able to talk to Bruno was in my office, where I now spend the last of my crippling days.

Bruno's eyes looked empty like soulless pits of gray, his body grew thinner in fact so did his face.
His skin looked sick and pale and his head was still bald. Looking at him made me weak.
Bruno almost looked like a Jew.
TWO
Every time I visited the gas chambers there Bruno sat, staring at me almost as if he wanted to tell me
something. Today, I worked up the courage to go up to Bruno and he said no words.
He just stared at me, with fear in his eyes. He looked at me the way my soldiers looked at me. He
said nothing but his voice continued to occupy my thoughts.
Swallowing the giant lump in my throat, I invited him into the house. When we did arrive Bruno
went inside of the house and grabbed a blanket he placed it on the ground in the garden and he sat
down, he patted the spot next to his inviting me to sit down.
We lied down there for hours until it grew dark, Bruno refused to speak the whole time we were
there he would point out clouds and constellations but no words. We spent an hour in silence just
staring at the moon. Bruno pointed at a shooting star. "Did you make a wish?" I asked. He nodded
his head.
"What did you wish for?"
He shook his head and gave a cheeky smile.

As the glossy doors of the stifling elevator closed shut, I squeezed a large, glowing button that held
an image of an upwards arrow. Listening to the humdrum jazz music on my way to the thirteenth
floor, my long forehead began to produce droplets of sweat and tears, for the walls of the elevator
were closing in on me. In order to calm my fretful senses, I began fiddling with the silver buckles on
my briefcase, until a deafening crash entered my ears. The booming sound filled the room once
more, this time causing my body to hit the hard ground. Suddenly, the motion of the elevator came
to a halt, generating a fuse of the ceiling lights. Across from the silver doors, I noticed three
mysterious beings, who seemed to have appeared out of nowhere. A man with big, dark eyes and an
oversized trench coat stared into my very soul, as he resembled a vampire. An elderly woman,
wearing a hat and scarf, cackled like a menace each time the elevator clashed. In the left corner, sat
another man, with a bloody shirt and a wicked temper. My heart, beating faster than a set of drums,
started to ache as I looked around at my inmates. Brooding and staring, each looked at me as if I
were a savage animal. Trying to start a friendly conversation, my mouth uttered, "How long do you
think we will be in here?" No response. The elevator was so quiet that a dropping pin could be
heard. Focusing on the patterned tiles of the floor, I tried ignoring the fact that I was trapped in a
confined elevator

What Is The Tone Of The Catbird Seat
In the story "The Catbird Seat" by David J. Birnbaum it's explaining the reality of the life of a
disabled individual. He explains how he gets special treatment because of his disability, like cutting
lines, and taking illegal things across the border. His tone changes when he realizes that he is isn't
treated the same like before. Birnbaum opens the paragraph by including imagery to describe the
background of being in the hospital following his incident and to describe the perks of his disability.
Birnbaum is living the everyday life of a person that gets almost everything he wants handed to him,
but towards the end of the story we find out it isn't all about getting things handed to him but
learning what's acceptable in the world. One stylistic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

As I passed through customs at Newark International Airport" (224) I think this Anecdote is
interesting because he brought something illegally across the border and did it successfully only
because he was disabled. I think this Anecdote can relate to my thesis because he is getting so
caught up in the perks of being disabled that he is doing things that could put him in jail or in
trouble. Another Anecdote that really helps to pull the rest of the story together is "Have some
respect, for god's sake" She continued, holding the door open for a middle– aged man with dark
glasses and a white cane" (225) I think this is a very important part of the story because it finally
expresses that it isn't all about the benefits and he isn't always going to get treated as he expects
because he is disabled. Birnbaum uses the excuses that he is disabled too much. He has to really
learn that there are other people that have it much worse than him and he needs to realize that other
people have struggles that impact their life as

Major Themes InBattle Royal, By Ralph Ellison
In the story of "Battle Royal" there are several themes that run through the story, the most important
theme is racism, with ambition and humility being secondary themes. The story begins with the
narrator clarifying his grandparents were once slaves and "about eight five years ago they were told
they were free, united with other of our country in everything pertaining to the common good, and
in everything social, separate like the fingers of the hand" (Ellison 1). It was the grandfather that
told the narrators father, "Son, after I'm gone I want you to keep up the good fight. I never told you,
but our life is a war and I have been a traitor all my born days, a spy in the enemy's country ever
since I give up my gun back in the Reconstruction" (Ellison 1). Told of his grandfather's last word,
the narrator endeavors to live up to the expectations of his grandfather's powerful words spoken
upon on his death bed. "Live with your head in the lion's mouth. I want you to overcome 'em with
yeses, undermine 'em with grins, agree 'em to death and destruction, le 'em swoller you till they
vomit or bust wide open." (Ellison 1). In the story, a young black man gives a speech on the day of
his graduation, all the time thinking, "I showed that humility was the secret, indeed, the very essence
of progress". He remembered what his grandfather had said before he died, and he felt that humility
worked. The young black man was praised and was invited to give his speech to the leading

Descriptive Language In The Contender By Robert Lipsyte
"Description begins in the writer's imagination, but should finish in the reader's." –Stephen King.
Descriptive language helps to create a picture in the reader's mind. Authors can create descriptive
language through narration or dialogue. In the novel The Contender, by Robert Lipsyte, the author
uses descriptive language and dialogue to develop the characters and the setting. In The Contender,
the author Robert Lipsyte uses descriptive language throughout the whole story. One example of
descriptive language in the story is on page 47. It says, "The second sit up was harder than the first,
and the third was harder still. But by the fourth sit up his muscles began to get warm, like a car
engine heating up on a cold morning.." In the text it says that each sit up was harder than the last but
by the last sit up he began to get used to it. This quote shows you what the character, Alfred, is doing
and how it felt to do the activity he was doing physically. A second example of descriptive language
in the story is on page 54. It says, "Alfred caught his breath. It was huge. It was almost a circle, and
the seats rose right up the walls toward a ceiling of cables and beams. In the center of the floor,
gleaming white under hundreds of spotlights, was the ring. The ropes were wrapped in velvet." In
this quote the author is trying to paint a picture in the reader's mind by using descriptive words like
"huge" and "wrapped in velvet" to describe items, objects and the setting that the

Gorilla, My Love Essay
Gorilla, My Love In the short story, "Gorilla, My Love", author Toni Cade Bambara narrates a story
about the way children overanalyze little white lies. Bambara tells the story as if a child was talking
in first–person view. Throughout the story Hazel talks about different instances of her share of what
she thought was being lied to. The read was very enjoyable because it was something that I could
relate to. For instance, when Hazel and her friend are at the movie theater and she says, " ...we yell
some more and some kids slip under the rope and run up and down the aisle just to show it take
more than some dusty ole velvet rope to tie us down." (Bambara 450) As I child I thought I could

Although, Hazel is courageous enough to "...hide the money..." (Bambara 450) from the "...big
boys..." (Bambara 450) that take their money, she has fear as any other child would have. Ultimately
the age of the narrator helps establish this sense of betrayal to the reader. Hazel sits in the "navigator
seat" because she is afraid of "...sittin in the back with the pecans." (Bambara 449)In fact, she says
that "...if you scary like me, you sleep with the lights on..." (Bambara 449) because like most kids
being in the dark scares them. This helps elevate the thought that the narrator is a young age because
it shows child–like behavior. There is a sense of rebellion throughout the story that reminds the
reader of what it's like to be a child. As a child I can remember talking back, and when something
didn't go my way I would pout and "give (them) some lip." (Bambara 450) Having this sense of
rebellion makes it feel like you can do whatever you want with no price to pay. However, this again
shows the rebellious nature of Hazel helping the reader realize she is a child. Even when Hazel talks
to the manager of the movie theater she is courageous enough to "...kick the door open...and sit
down..." (Bambara 451)and demand the manager her money back. She even puts up an argument to
get out of punishment with her parents when she knows she has done something wrong. The
connectivity between these two ideas help

color of her skin. Consequently, she is unable to live up to society's standard of beauty, defined by
whiteness. A young girl with a light dark complexion, Maureen Peal adopts a distorted self–
perception from an early age, as she has been conditioned by society to view her blackness as
inferiority. Wearing expensive clothing, Maureen tries to compensate for what society perceives as a
lack of beauty, "Fluffy sweaters the color of lemon drops tucked into skirts with pleats so orderly
they astounded us. Brightly colored knee socks with white borders, a brown velvet coat trimmed in
white rabbit fur, and a matching muff" (62). Wearing brightly colored clothing, Maureen reminds
her classmates of springtime. Adorned in vibrant knee socks and fluffy sweaters, Maureen is
admired by her peers. Her clothing is orderly, establishing a sense of control that her classmates can
only dream of. However, not even Maureen's expensive clothing can change the fact that her skin is

In 1774, the Liberty Boys, spied on British men and met regularly to give information. Four years
after his midnight ride, Paul Revere served as commander of land artillery in the catastrophic
Penobscot Expedition of 1779. Paul Revere is usually most remembered for his horsemanship. He is
also known for his contributions from his hammer and chisel. His ability to appeal to the colonial
people through works of his copper engravings demonstrated the power of propaganda. After the
War, Revere increased his business to open an iron foundry at the North End of Boston making
utilitarian cast iron products that were useful and widely purchased by the local people. He also
opened a copper mill which made bells for churches and rolled copper for the hulls of wooden ships.
All of this demonstrated that Paul Revere was a man of great talents, and was therefore
indispensable to Boston's fame in resisting the authority of the British Parliament and King George
III. Paul Revere did not gain immediate fame for his April 1775 Midnight Ride. In fact, it wasn't
until Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's 1861 poem, which greatly abolished Revere's act, that he

Redcoats: A Fictional Narrative
She twisted and turned, but nothing worked. The rope around her wrist was too tight. Her life was
put to the ultimate test. Bess, the dark–eyed landlord's daughter would do anything to save her life.
Her tiny body pushed against the Redcoats. "Let go of me, I am not your maid!" Bess screamed as
loud as she could. "It's my job," the redcoats stated, "and you'll thank me later." She glared at him
and murmured, "If you kill me, you'll regret it." "I don't care about your life. The only thing that
matters to me is my life," the redcoat yelled, "and I couldn't care less about yours!" Bess's hands
stretched and strained in the darkness as she said under her breath, "Give me the musket." "Fine, it
only helps me." the redcoat said. While her hands strained, she thought about how the love of her

The Jackson's became a prominent staple in popular mainstream music with every sibling having a

the mass recognition, countless awards, and top album sales, Janet was unhappy and dealing with a

had two secret failed marriages before the age of 30, Janet found herself searching for the answers

Comparing Little Red Riding Hood Folktales Essay
Comparing Little Red Riding Hood folktales is a multi tasks operation, which includes many
elaborations on the many aspects of the story. Setting, plot, character origin, and motif are the few I
chose to elaborate solely on. Although the versions vary, they all have the motif trickery, the
characters all include some sort of villain with a heroin, the plot concludes all in the final destruction
or cease of the villain to be, and, the setting and origins of the versions vary the most to where they
are not comparable but only contrastable, if one can say that origins and settings are contrastable.

The motif of the story is the wolf's trickery. The origins and culture are the simply the basics.
Lon Po Po version by Ed Young characters includes a mother, three daughters, a wolf and, only
introductions of Grandmother. This version differs greatly by the fact that Grandmother is not sick
like the original, it's Grandmother's birthday and "the good mother set off to see her, leaving
the three children at home" (Young 2). Unlike the original, too, this is taking place on a dark
night. The wolf uses trickery but the eldest girl is very clever which then the wolf eventually gets
mislead. They mislead the wolf, "climbed up the tall tree" (Young 16) in retreats of the
gingko nuts. The girls eventually kill the wolf by dropping him in the basket they were pulling up by
rope, which was intentional. The origins and culture are significantly Chinese. The motif is the
trickery yet again only in a different manner.
Petite Rouge Riding Hood version by Mike Artell includes characters that are animals. What would
be humans in the original Little Red Riding Hood, are ducks in this version, with a mother, daughter,
grandmother, and the villain, instead of the evil wolf, is now a gator. The girl, Petite Rouge Riding
Hood, has a companion cat. This version takes places near and on the swamp. The condiments
needed to take to the grandmother to help with her flu are gumbo and boudin. The grandmother is

New York City : My Experience In The New York City
Looking around, I had noticed diversity like I'd never seen before. I was in another world. Even
though New York City can be a dangerous place, I felt comfortable there. My view of Kansas is now
forever changed. On that trip, I discovered what I wanted to do during my adult life.
My back was sore from waiting in the stiff airport chair. I sat there gazing at all the travelers
moseying their way to a seat or hurrying to their gate. Just a few hours ago, I was at school, eating
lunch with my fifth–grade class. Then all of a sudden, my mom was there saying I had an
appointment she had forgot about. We shuffled across the tile floor to the office. I studied the orange
fish in the tank by the secretary's desk, waiting for my sister. When she arrived, my mom took out
her phone and held it up like she was going to take a picture. I raised an eyebrow in confusion. My
mom handed us each a tiny envelope with a list of things we needed to pack. My confusion quickly
transformed into delight when I read the bottom of the page. It said that we were leaving for New
York City that evening!
We drove home and packed our things, then headed to KCI. I tried my best to sit still and contain
my delight. After going through the maze of ropes, people, luggage, and metal scanners, our trip was
ready to start! Except it didn't.
After waiting in the airport for an hour, we boarded the plane. I peered out the window at the
enormous white wing of the plane, imagining how smooth it will fly through the sky to take me to
the Big Apple. But, that didn't happen as soon as I'd hoped. After sitting on the plane for an hour, we
were asked to go back inside the airport due to difficulties with the plane. "Will I ever get to New
York?" I thought as I slouched back into the uncomfortable chair.
My stomach trembled like an earthquake while growling because I hadn't eaten since lunch and all
of the restaurants in KCI were closed. I sat there in silence, disappointed, for an hour or so. I thought
they were going to cancel the flight and that I wasn't going to get to go. Just then, the muffled voice
of a flight attendant came through the speakers, telling us that the plane was ready. Once back on the
plane, the flight was quiet, and

Helen Clay Frick Research Paper
For nearly 80 years, visitors to a New York art museum called the Frick Collection have stood
behind a velvet rope at the bottom of a sweeping marble staircase and longed to see the private
rooms upstairs.
By 2020, they will be able to satisfy their curiosity. That's because Henry Clay Frick's three–story
mansion in New York City, which opened as a museum in 1935, is going to turn private living
quarters into exhibition space and expand with a 42,000–square–foot addition.
Two of the Frick family's second–floor bedrooms plus a sitting room and breakfast room will
become galleries. Construction, slated to begin in 2017, also will connect the three–story museum
with the nearby Frick Art Reference Library, which also opened in 1935. Helen Clay Frick, daughter

That's one reason the adjoining bedrooms of Helen Clay Frick and her mother, Adelaide, which are
currently used as offices, will become exhibition galleries. About 320,000 people visit the Frick
Collection each year. A recent show of Gilded Age Dutch paintings that included Vermeer's famous
portrait "Girl With a Pearl Earring" and "The Goldfinch" by Carel Fabritius drew record crowds and
lines that snaked around the block.
Most of the collection is on view, but small sculptures, decorative arts objects, and drawings that are
in storage will be well–suited to exhibition in the family's private rooms.
The Frick Collection, which employs 200 full–time and 40 part–time staff, has an endowment of
$325 million. In 1977, the museum tore down three townhouses it bought in the 1940s to build a
one–story pavilion and two basement classrooms that soon became exhibition spaces. On some of
that land, British landscape architect Russell Page designed a 60–by–80–foot garden that faces 70th

How and Why Did American Popular Culture Influence...
The 1950s and 1960s were times of unprecedented change, and Australian society was influenced
greatly by American popular culture, through various mediums, such as: music, film, television and
fashion. This especially affected teenagers. It will be explained how Australian society was impacted
by American popular culture, and also why American popular culture had such an affect. Australian
developed its own responses to these influences, and the extent of this will also be explored. The
1950s meant the emergence of the teenager; it also brought peace and prosperity to many. And
during the fifties there were far more American films released in Australia, and they became more

overseas excitement was finally there for then to fully be a part of. But the psychedelic styles of the
sixties were so strong and unsympathetic to other styles that it was inevitable that Psychedelia
departed as quickly as it arrived. The fifties and sixties were completely different in so many ways;
the times had changed a lot in the transition of decades. The types of music, for one, were in great
contrast. By the sixties the rock–'n'–roll and pelvic thrusting of the fifties had transformed into the
pop, rock and folk music of the likes of the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan. Teenagers
changed a lot over the two decades a lot, too. The tight pant, leather jacket bodgies, with their
greased hair, and the widgies, with their rope petticoats and flared dresses, were replaced by the
teenagers of the Psychedelic era. These teenagers preferred the swirled shapes and bright colours,
with their newly found mini–skirts, and for the guys it was paisley shirts. Although the two decades
were different in themselves, there is still a parallel running between the two. Both were times of
change, with popular culture culminated for the newly recognised youth, each decade had their own
brand of pop music, and their own brand of teenagers. However, the teenagers of the sixties, despite

The Swing Portrays by Jean-Honoré Fragonard
Jean–Honoré Fragonard created The Swing in 1766 with oil paints on a 2' 8.6'' by 2' 2'' canvas. It is
located in London, England in the Wallace Collection. During the time this work was created,
France was an aristocracy and The Swing portrays a glimpse of the luxurious life of the ruling class.
King Louis XV ruled during a time when France was the most prosperous and powerful country in
all of Europe. Through the influence of Madame de Pompadour, the arts prospered during this time.
In the 18th century during King Louis' reign the arts seemed to consume the thoughts of not only the
artists themselves but also the King and other wealthy and influential members of society. This in
turn resulted in neglect of the undertakings of the state, which had its consequences. In 1789, the
"bloody" French Revolution took place and soon after, the fall of the monarchy. The Swing is
undoubtedly the most famous of all Fragonard's compositions. It epitomizes the Rococo style of the
18th century with tranquil colors and gentle light, exaggerated diagonals, decorations, and nature. .
The libertine Baron de St. Julien commissioned this piece. He ordered that Fragonard paint the
bishop pushing his Madame on a swing. Fragonard painted for the baron de Saint–Julien his first
great masterpiece and from then on he knew that for the rest of his life he would paint for people of
wealth. He painted for many individuals including the king because his talent was something that
everyone desired. The

It's hard to explain, the feelings and thoughts I had that day. Immense joy, and yet towering fear. So
many words come to mind, looking back on it now. I felt alienated, yet accepted. I felt accepted,
with the other women standing by me. I felt alienated by the immense amount of mens eyes on us. A
penetrating stare, as though we didn't belong. Anxious, yet eager. It's nerve wracking being the first,

upon my body. Inferior, the mens eyes. June 28, 1976. The bus moves along, ascending into the

rights and hand them back to you one by one." I am prepared for it. I know that I am strong enough

Every other building on the block is a head shop or tattoo parlor or a bar. On weekends, St. Mark's

Classification of Exercise Partners
Every woman's magazine I've ever read gives its readers advice on exercising, and one of the most
common tips I've seen is to find a partner to exercise with. In my experience, however, having an
exercise partner is not a good idea. I have encountered five types of exercise partners, and I have
concluded that it is definitely best to exercise alone.
The Drill Sergeant
My ex–boyfriend represents the Drill Sergeant. He is one of those people whose motto is "No pain,

The Competitor
A high school teammate of mine was The Competitor. Her outlook on life was to be the best at
whatever she did, and exercising was no exception. She seemed perfectly sweet, but her competitive
streak emerged one afternoon. Our leisurely jog gradually turned to a run, and then a full sprint. I
glanced over at her and noticed the pained expression on her face. I knew she was only pushing
herself to beat me: she felt she had to run faster and further. You would think that since I knew this
was the case, I would have given up and let her get her dose of superiority. I didn't. I was determined
to teach her a lesson. I had been jogging regularly by that that time, and was in pretty good shape.
She gave up first, and The Competitor cannot stand to lose. We remained friends, of course, but
never ran together again. Her bruised pride and my sore muscles saw to that.

David Fagonard The Swing
The term, Rococo is a style of French design or an artistic expression that originate in the modern
age of the eighteenth century. The Rococo style of art was an artistic revolution of the hopes and
dream of the emerging middle class, which spread through the European region. This movement is
most popular for its uses of fancy, curved asymmetrical forms and rich ornamentation. Rococo art
style is shown elegantly and beautifully, with the scenes of classic love stories and fantastical
dreams of romance. Fragonard described the theme of the painting as an act of individual freedom,
both physical and emotional in the sense of movement.
Fragonard's oil painting, "The Swing" was created in 1766. It is located in the Wallace Collection,
London, United Kingdom. The image shows as a major masterpiece in the style of Rococo art. The
painting, 'The Swing' was originally built for a wealthy patron in homage to his wife. It was an oil
canvas and stands at a height of 31 7/8 x 25 ¼. Fragonard depicts a scene of scandal and flirtation,

creamy billows of fabric that swirl around her and her dress. In addition, the husband in the painting

A kaleidoscope of butterflies invades my stomach the moment he turns his face towards me, our
noses touching. I gaze through my lashes, straight into the ocean pools, where I become lost to the
world as I allow myself become enthralled by Angelo's magic. He brushes his lips against my ear,
caressing the softness of my skin while his hot breath flows down my neck. "Frankie will introduce
you soon. Are you going to sing that song for me again?"
My heart flutters like a hummingbird in my chest, my breath becomes heavy, making me dizzy
almost. My eyes flutter closed as I lose myself in this moment with Angelo.
All too soon I hear my name being called, freeing me from captivity. I snap my eyes open to see
Frankie standing on the stage, holding his hand out towards me. I turn to face Angelo, who gazes at
me with sensual eyes.
The hummingbird in my chest beats her wings harder, desperately searching
for a way out. I have to turn away quickly before I accept the invitation to fall into his arms and kiss
him in front of Alice.
The crowd parts, allowing me access towards the stage. As I did earlier, I hold onto the rail as I
ascend the four steps, my body quivers, my breath becomes ragged. My heartbeat continues to race,
but no longer because of Angelo's advances. Now, I have a crowd of strangers to entertain, a far
more terrifying prospect than earlier, only singing for Angelo.
Frankie waits beside the microphone, gazing back

Simon Monologue
Stockton Street ran straight through the middle of Chinatown. The smoking sewers billowed up like
the buildings surrounding. On this crisp, cold San Fran morning, Simon wheeled his mother through
the maze of their small apartment. Stacks of wooden chairs, china sets, hatboxes, and lanterns
towered and leaned above. Simon rolled his mom to the small window to watch and preoccupy her
with the passing pedestrians. In this cluttered small, apartment above their shop is where she spent
most of her days, alone.
Simon plodded down the creaking steps of their apartment, descending into the eclectic antique shop
where he busied himself with the tasks (and his recent takes) of the day. Simon shifted about the
shop, murmuring to himself as he continuously ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Simon's soul was still with the small woman trapped in a maze of smoke and mirrors.
The floorboards creaked in response as Simons mother wheeled back and forth, from the window
and back to the head of the stairs. Her sad eyes glinted in the dusky light.
She hadn't eaten all day and had to use the bathroom, but where was Simon?
Simon's soul felt heavy, and wet like he was wearing wool and decided to go for a swim. The
darkness pushed in on him. Shapes appeared, forming larger than life images of the things he had
stolen. He was filled with an overwhelming sense of guilt.
The smoky voice interrupted his berating monologue, " I'll make a deal with you".
His hair lay flat as he turned about in a crazed frenzy. "Ok... I–I mean yes."
His eyes widened in disbelief as the voice echoed her proposition.
He floated about in the unsettling situation, and finally made a choice.
"You can take it, just make sure she's okay..."
"A deal is a deal." The voice slithered through the thick darkness.
Simon never came back home. His mother gave up for the day and went to bed. The next day a
small Asian woman came into Simon and his mother's house. She made breakfast and woke the
mother and explained, "Simon sent me. We had a

My Brush with a Celebrity
The day started off as a normal Tuesday in April with the exception that today was the start of DC
Cas week. I was anxious and nervous but ready for the DC Cas because I've been waiting all year
for this big day and now that day had finally came and I was more ready than I could have ever be.
My teachers had been preparing me for this day and I wasn't going to let them down. After waking
up I got dressed in my uniform hopping that today would be a good day and not aware of what was
yet to come. After getting dressed I proceeded to breakfast where the big news came. As I walked in
the cafeteria for breakfast I noticed that the vibe was very different. I could feel something exciting
was about to happen but I couldn't put my finger on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I couldn't believe that I was meeting Michelle Obama. She gave me lots of hugs and she smelled so
sweet but then the moment I was waiting for. President Barack Obama walked down the aisle
looking very spiffy. My first thought was "Boy isn't he tall" but once he got to me I choked up and
began to cry and shake his hand like crazy because this moment was so unrealistic and I was the
happiest girl in Washington, D.C. at that moment. After Obama then came Joe Bidden and his wife.
I wasn't really happy to see them but the person after them had me at a loss for words. Former
President Bill Clinton walked down the aisle and I almost died. I was ecstatic when I saw him and
couldn't stop shaking his hand. It was an honor to meet those people and that is a day I would never
forget. I cried for the next 20 minutes or so but they were tears of joy and that is one day that I will

The Swing By Jean-Honore Fragonard Essay

  • 1. The Swing By Jean-Honore Fragonard Essay The eighteenth century, rococo era, remained a light–hearted time being pre–revolutionary. Transpired a period that the postmodern world would attempt to emulate. After Louis XIV died, things became more excessive. Sculpture became more delicately carved while architecture metamorphose a more decorative and successful. Paintings of the aristocracy in pastel colors, showing themes of fantasy, pleasure, and sensuality as they were more commonly asked for. Women's textile dresses were excessive, to say the least. Rooms were smaller to make everything else look more extreme. The Swing by Jean–Honore Fragonard has been described as the embodiment of the Rococo era paintings. Born in Grasse of the French Riviera, 1732, Fragonard, spent most of his time studying at the studio of François Boucher after his family moved to Paris. After being awarded the Prix de Rome, a French scholarship, he continued his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In reality, it is a garden. The fact that it is overgrown and energetic only gives it more of a sexual and sensual being. Looming in a mist, it gives a dreamƒlike look. On the right side, you can vaguely make out the villa or palace that the garden belongs to, although it is for the most part concealed by the trees. Most of the trees are lush and full of life while others have no foliage at all. This style is called the blast and the bough and is thought to represent the passion behind The Swing. The free and easy nature is all the more emphasized by the loose brushstrokes. In this overgrown garden, a Madame, in a fluffy, creamy pink dress that billows around her in the style of the time, is sitting on a swing with a velvet cushion and gold ropes. She is being pushed by her appearing to be husband. He is an older man giving the viewer that it was an arranged marriage. Originally this was not supposed to be her husband, but a bishop. The lights hangingfrom the ceiling are dimmed, and the melodic ringing of wind could be heard. Bodies crowdtogether in the small room, and all heads gaze at one single item. The television growls awarning, but it is set up in the form of a welcome to the hotel. Above the shelves sit manyknickknacks: a beat up camera, adusty music box, a rickety old fortune telling machine, andeven a vintage girl's doll sits on the wall with beady eyes staring down at me. I gaze at my oldfriends. Their presence adds a hype to the idea of what awaits. The television blanks out and thefamiliar spike in my heartbeat comes, and there goes the lightning right on queue. The creek ofthe door is heard over the rumbling of voices, when a bright light blinds my vision for a quicksecond. A heated breeze flocks into the room from the shadowy corridor. The empty smell of steam surrounds, and it caresses my arms the further into the room Igo. The cold brick walls brush against my arms as families rush past me. The sound of my feet clattering againstthe steel reverberates around the room. The bridge splits into two and leads the newcomers intoan aloof. The arrow whistles sharply through the air until "splat" the front end of the arrow plunges deep into the Caribous thorax. The Caribou jars its head up and collapses as its legs buckles beneath him. I silently place my bow back into its hid satchel, which is strapped behind my back, cautiously walking towards the carcass. First I verify that the animal is dead, by observing the stillness of his chest. Then I pull the arrow out gingerly, and I watch as a scarlet stream of blood cascades out of the wound melting the snow to create little lagoon. I take off the bags of meat and trudge through the heavy snow towards the meat house. I get inside the tiny meat house and the smell of salt hits me like a wall. In the meat house is racks and racks of dried meat and a huge ice box in the corner where I store some of it, there is also a wooden counter where I will lay out and cast the meat in salts to preserve it properly. It is cold and dark in the meat house so I pull a match out of my satchel and light a candle. I find a certain peace in preparing meat, which is kind of weird but I am really passionate about my job. Hours later I am finished and I blow out the candle and head towards the house, my stomach is growling and I realise that I had not eaten since I broke my fast. As I walk the worn path to the cabin, I look up at the sky and see a millions and billions of stars sprinkled across the galaxy I stare amazed it's a great day to be alive. I open the door to the cabin and a warm delicious aroma surrounds me. I stomp off the snow from my moccasins before I walk into the cabin. I can ask my twin to do it but it will most likely take him long, and that's just for information. If he gets info that is. Then I need to induce proper torment, I need a massive amount of connections to do it for me and at that point, it will be more effective to just kill him. • 11. Personal Narrative-Parody Clumsy It was just before the sun set and you could smell the stench of each individual in line. Some smelled like year old gym sweet and others smelled more like the sickly sweet aroma of the bakery where they had no doubt spent their day. I sat down upon the small brick wall that I had been leaning upon for what felt like an eternity. Of course i did this with the help of my broad shouldered father who was almost as tried as I, a small blond four year old. After frolicing around Disney World all day, meeting my idols had left me physically and mentally exhausted. Better yet we were engulfed in this wretched humidity that could only be produced by a summer day in Florida. I wished for sleep, to escape the hoards of people, the extensive lines, and the most annoying of all, the screaming children being micromanaged by their unintelligent guardians. Still knowing that the moment I showed a craving for sleep I would miss my chance to meet Cinderella, Aurora, and Belle. Realizing that I had not hurt Cinderella and that no one was mad at me I emerged from my cave of embarrassment and allowed myself to slide to the floor and gave Cinderella a much gentler hug and apologized, leaving that night super happy. • 13. My Experience In New York City Looking around, I had seen diversity like I'd never seen before. I was in another world. Even though New York City can be a dangerous place, I felt comfortable there. My view of Kansas is now forever changed. On that trip, I found out what I wanted to do during my adult life. My back was sore from waiting in the stiff airport chair. I sat there staring at all the travelers moseying their way to a seat or hurrying to their gate. Just a few hours ago, I was at school, eating lunch with my fifth grade class. Then all of a sudden, my mom was there saying I had an appointment she had forgot about. We shuffled across the tile floor to the office. I studied the orange fish in the tank by the secretary's desk, waiting for my sister. When she arrived, my mom took out her phone and held it up like she was going to take a picture. I raised an eyebrow in confusion. My mom handed us each a tiny envelope with a list of things we needed to pack. My confusion quickly transformed into delight when I read the bottom of the page. It said that we were leaving for New York City that evening! We drove home and packed our things, then headed to KCI. I tried my best to sit still and contain my excitement. After going through the maze of ropes, people, luggage, and metal scanners, our trip was ready to start! Except it didn't. After waiting in the airport for an hour, we boarded the plane. I peered out the window at the enormous white wing of the plane, imagining how smooth it will fly through ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I wish I could touch him and wrap my arms around torso, and tell him how sorry I am. But I cannot, I am a coward. I am afraid of looking at my son. I know that he is still around, I can feel him following me. I can feel his cold stare lurking behind me, I can feel the guilt he put upon me. Whenever you lose something, a necklace, your keys or whatever. Everyone tells you to look in the last place you saw it. You search everywhere, but without luck it is nowhere. When we did arrive Bruno went inside of the house and grabbed a blanket he placed it on the ground in the garden and he sat down, he patted the spot next to his inviting me to sit down. We lied down there for hours until it grew dark, Bruno refused to speak the whole time we were there he would point out clouds and constellations but no words. Listening to the humdrum jazz music on my way to the thirteenth floor, my long forehead began to produce droplets of sweat and tears, for the walls of the elevator were closing in on me. In order to calm my fretful senses, I began fiddling with the silver buckles on my briefcase, until a deafening crash entered my ears. The booming sound filled the room once more, this time causing my body to hit the hard ground. Suddenly, the motion of the elevator came to a halt, generating a fuse of the ceiling lights. Across from the silver doors, I noticed three mysterious beings, who seemed to have appeared out of nowhere. A man with big, dark eyes and an oversized trench coat stared into my very soul, as he resembled a vampire. An elderly woman, wearing a hat and scarf, cackled like a menace each time the elevator clashed. In the left corner, sat another man, with a bloody shirt and a wicked temper. My heart, beating faster than a set of drums, started to ache as I looked around at my inmates. Brooding and staring, each looked at me as if I were a savage animal. Trying to start a friendly conversation, my mouth uttered, "How long do you think we will be in here?" No response. The elevator was so quiet that a dropping pin could be heard. • 21. What Is The Tone Of The Catbird Seat In the story "The Catbird Seat" by David J. Birnbaum it's explaining the reality of the life of a disabled individual. He explains how he gets special treatment because of his disability, like cutting lines, and taking illegal things across the border. His tone changes when he realizes that he is isn't treated the same like before. Birnbaum opens the paragraph by including imagery to describe the background of being in the hospital following his incident and to describe the perks of his disability. Birnbaum is living the everyday life of a person that gets almost everything he wants handed to him, but towards the end of the story we find out it isn't all about getting things handed to him but learning what's acceptable in the world. One stylistic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, "Before I left for Jamaica last January, I hid a box of Cuban cigars in my canvas case, As I passed through customs at Newark International Airport" (224) I think this Anecdote is interesting because he brought something illegally across the border and did it successfully only because he was disabled. I think this Anecdote can relate to my thesis because he is getting so caught up in the perks of being disabled that he is doing things that could put him in jail or in trouble. Another Anecdote that really helps to pull the rest of the story together is "Have some respect, for god's sake" She continued, holding the door open for a middle– aged man with dark glasses and a white cane" (225) I think this is a very important part of the story because it finally expresses that it isn't all about the benefits and he isn't always going to get treated as he expects because he is disabled. Birnbaum uses the excuses that he is disabled too much. He has to really learn that there are other people that have it much worse than him and he needs to realize that other people have struggles that impact their life as ... • 23. Major Themes InBattle Royal, By Ralph Ellison In the story of "Battle Royal" there are several themes that run through the story, the most important theme is racism, with ambition and humility being secondary themes. The story begins with the narrator clarifying his grandparents were once slaves and "about eight five years ago they were told they were free, united with other of our country in everything pertaining to the common good, and in everything social, separate like the fingers of the hand" (Ellison 1). It was the grandfather that told the narrators father, "Son, after I'm gone I want you to keep up the good fight. I never told you, but our life is a war and I have been a traitor all my born days, a spy in the enemy's country ever since I give up my gun back in the Reconstruction" (Ellison 1). Told of his grandfather's last word, the narrator endeavors to live up to the expectations of his grandfather's powerful words spoken upon on his death bed. "Live with your head in the lion's mouth. I want you to overcome 'em with yeses, undermine 'em with grins, agree 'em to death and destruction, le 'em swoller you till they vomit or bust wide open." (Ellison 1). In the story, a young black man gives a speech on the day of his graduation, all the time thinking, "I showed that humility was the secret, indeed, the very essence of progress". He remembered what his grandfather had said before he died, and he felt that humility worked. The young black man was praised and was invited to give his speech to the leading ... • 27. Descriptive Language In The Contender By Robert Lipsyte "Description begins in the writer's imagination, but should finish in the reader's." –Stephen King. Descriptive language helps to create a picture in the reader's mind. Authors can create descriptive language through narration or dialogue. In the novel The Contender, by Robert Lipsyte, the author uses descriptive language and dialogue to develop the characters and the setting. In The Contender, the author Robert Lipsyte uses descriptive language throughout the whole story. One example of descriptive language in the story is on page 47. It says, "The second sit up was harder than the first, and the third was harder still. But by the fourth sit up his muscles began to get warm, like a car engine heating up on a cold morning.." In the text it says that each sit up was harder than the last but by the last sit up he began to get used to it. This quote shows you what the character, Alfred, is doing and how it felt to do the activity he was doing physically. A second example of descriptive language in the story is on page 54. It says, "Alfred caught his breath. It was huge. It was almost a circle, and the seats rose right up the walls toward a ceiling of cables and beams. In the center of the floor, gleaming white under hundreds of spotlights, was the ring. The ropes were wrapped in velvet." In this quote the author is trying to paint a picture in the reader's mind by using descriptive words like "huge" and "wrapped in velvet" to describe items, objects and the setting that the ... Bambara tells the story as if a child was talking in first–person view. Throughout the story Hazel talks about different instances of her share of what she thought was being lied to. The read was very enjoyable because it was something that I could relate to. For instance, when Hazel and her friend are at the movie theater and she says, " ...we yell some more and some kids slip under the rope and run up and down the aisle just to show it take more than some dusty ole velvet rope to tie us down." Although, Hazel is courageous enough to "...hide the money..." (Bambara 450) from the "...big boys..." (Bambara 450) that take their money, she has fear as any other child would have. Ultimately the age of the narrator helps establish this sense of betrayal to the reader. Hazel sits in the "navigator seat" because she is afraid of "...sittin in the back with the pecans." (Bambara 449)In fact, she says that "...if you scary like me, you sleep with the lights on..." (Bambara 449) because like most kids being in the dark scares them. This helps elevate the thought that the narrator is a young age because it shows child–like behavior. There is a sense of rebellion throughout the story that reminds the reader of what it's like to be a child. As a child I can remember talking back, and when something didn't go my way I would pout and "give (them) some lip." (Bambara 450) Having this sense of rebellion makes it feel like you can do whatever you want with no price to pay. However, this again shows the rebellious nature of Hazel helping the reader realize she is a child. Even when Hazel talks to the manager of the movie theater she is courageous enough to "...kick the door open...and sit down..." (Bambara 451)and demand the manager her money back. She even puts up an argument to get out of punishment with her parents when she knows she has done something wrong. The connectivity between these two ideas help ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Beauty As A Standard Of Beauty Analysis Given the societal view of whiteness as a standard of beauty, both Maureen Peal and Pecola Breedlove struggle with distorted self–perceptions and self–hatred. Ultimately able to project both her hatred and her insecurities elsewhere, Maureen is able to bloom despite adversity. Pecola, however, internalizes the hatred at the hands of others and is left only to wither. Consequently, she is unable to live up to society's standard of beauty, defined by whiteness. A young girl with a light dark complexion, Maureen Peal adopts a distorted self– perception from an early age, as she has been conditioned by society to view her blackness as inferiority. Although the versions vary, they all have the motif trickery, the characters all include some sort of villain with a heroin, the plot concludes all in the final destruction or cease of the villain to be, and, the setting and origins of the versions vary the most to where they are not comparable but only contrastable, if one can say that origins and settings are contrastable. Little Red Riding Hood retold by the Brothers Grimm version by Paul Galdone includes a "sweet little maiden" (Galdone 1) who never ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The motif of the story is the wolf's trickery. The origins and culture are the simply the basics. Lon Po Po version by Ed Young characters includes a mother, three daughters, a wolf and, only introductions of Grandmother. This version differs greatly by the fact that Grandmother is not sick like the original, it's Grandmother's birthday and "the good mother set off to see her, leaving the three children at home" (Young 2). Unlike the original, too, this is taking place on a dark night. The wolf uses trickery but the eldest girl is very clever which then the wolf eventually gets mislead. They mislead the wolf, "climbed up the tall tree" (Young 16) in retreats of the gingko nuts. The girls eventually kill the wolf by dropping him in the basket they were pulling up by rope, which was intentional. The origins and culture are significantly Chinese. The motif is the trickery yet again only in a different manner. Petite Rouge Riding Hood version by Mike Artell includes characters that are animals. What would be humans in the original Little Red Riding Hood, are ducks in this version, with a mother, daughter, grandmother, and the villain, instead of the evil wolf, is now a gator. The girl, Petite Rouge Riding Hood, has a companion cat. This version takes places near and on the swamp. The condiments needed to take to the grandmother to help with her flu are gumbo and boudin. • 46. New York City : My Experience In The New York City Looking around, I had noticed diversity like I'd never seen before. I was in another world. Even though New York City can be a dangerous place, I felt comfortable there. My view of Kansas is now forever changed. On that trip, I discovered what I wanted to do during my adult life. My back was sore from waiting in the stiff airport chair. I sat there gazing at all the travelers moseying their way to a seat or hurrying to their gate. Just a few hours ago, I was at school, eating lunch with my fifth–grade class. I tried my best to sit still and contain my delight. After going through the maze of ropes, people, luggage, and metal scanners, our trip was ready to start! Except it didn't. After waiting in the airport for an hour, we boarded the plane. I peered out the window at the enormous white wing of the plane, imagining how smooth it will fly through the sky to take me to the Big Apple. But, that didn't happen as soon as I'd hoped. After sitting on the plane for an hour, we were asked to go back inside the airport due to difficulties with the plane. "Will I ever get to New York?" I thought as I slouched back into the uncomfortable chair. My stomach trembled like an earthquake while growling because I hadn't eaten since lunch and all of the restaurants in KCI were closed. I sat there in silence, disappointed, for an hour or so. I thought they were going to cancel the flight and that I wasn't going to get to go. Just then, the muffled voice of a flight attendant came through the speakers, telling us that the plane was ready. Once back on the plane, the flight was quiet, and ... Helen Clay Frick Research Paper For nearly 80 years, visitors to a New York art museum called the Frick Collection have stood behind a velvet rope at the bottom of a sweeping marble staircase and longed to see the private rooms upstairs. By 2020, they will be able to satisfy their curiosity. That's because Henry Clay Frick's three–story mansion in New York City, which opened as a museum in 1935, is going to turn private living quarters into exhibition space and expand with a 42,000–square–foot addition. Two of the Frick family's second–floor bedrooms plus a sitting room and breakfast room will become galleries. Construction, slated to begin in 2017, also will connect the three–story museum with the nearby Frick Art Reference Library, which also opened in 1935. The 1950s and 1960s were times of unprecedented change, and Australian society was influenced greatly by American popular culture, through various mediums, such as: music, film, television and fashion. This especially affected teenagers. It will be explained how Australian society was impacted by American popular culture, and also why American popular culture had such an affect. Australian developed its own responses to these influences, and the extent of this will also be explored. The 1950s meant the emergence of the teenager; it also brought peace and prosperity to many. But the psychedelic styles of the sixties were so strong and unsympathetic to other styles that it was inevitable that Psychedelia departed as quickly as it arrived. The fifties and sixties were completely different in so many ways; the times had changed a lot in the transition of decades. The types of music, for one, were in great contrast. By the sixties the rock–'n'–roll and pelvic thrusting of the fifties had transformed into the pop, rock and folk music of the likes of the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan. Teenagers changed a lot over the two decades a lot, too. The tight pant, leather jacket bodgies, with their greased hair, and the widgies, with their rope petticoats and flared dresses, were replaced by the teenagers of the Psychedelic era. These teenagers preferred the swirled shapes and bright colours, with their newly found mini–skirts, and for the guys it was paisley shirts. Although the two decades were different in themselves, there is still a parallel running between the two. Both were times of change, with popular culture culminated for the newly recognised youth, each decade had their own brand of pop music, and their own brand of teenagers. • 52. The Swing Portrays by Jean-Honoré Fragonard Jean–Honoré Fragonard created The Swing in 1766 with oil paints on a 2' 8.6'' by 2' 2'' canvas. It is located in London, England in the Wallace Collection. During the time this work was created, France was an aristocracy and The Swing portrays a glimpse of the luxurious life of the ruling class. King Louis XV ruled during a time when France was the most prosperous and powerful country in all of Europe. Through the influence of Madame de Pompadour, the arts prospered during this time. In the 18th century during King Louis' reign the arts seemed to consume the thoughts of not only the artists themselves but also the King and other wealthy and influential members of society. This in turn resulted in neglect of the undertakings of the state, which had its consequences. In 1789, the "bloody" French Revolution took place and soon after, the fall of the monarchy. The Swing is undoubtedly the most famous of all Fragonard's compositions. It epitomizes the Rococo style of the 18th century with tranquil colors and gentle light, exaggerated diagonals, decorations, and nature. . The libertine Baron de St. Julien commissioned this piece. He ordered that Fragonard paint the bishop pushing his Madame on a swing. Fragonard painted for the baron de Saint–Julien his first great masterpiece and from then on he knew that for the rest of his life he would paint for people of wealth. He painted for many individuals including the king because his talent was something that everyone desired. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 67. David Fagonard The Swing The term, Rococo is a style of French design or an artistic expression that originate in the modern age of the eighteenth century. The Rococo style of art was an artistic revolution of the hopes and dream of the emerging middle class, which spread through the European region. This movement is most popular for its uses of fancy, curved asymmetrical forms and rich ornamentation. Rococo art style is shown elegantly and beautifully, with the scenes of classic love stories and fantastical dreams of romance. Fragonard described the theme of the painting as an act of individual freedom, both physical and emotional in the sense of movement. Fragonard's oil painting, "The Swing" was created in 1766. It is located in the Wallace Collection, London, United Kingdom. The image shows as a major masterpiece in the style of Rococo art.
