Promoting a new type of housing
and improvement of existing housing condition at Tanguar Haor,
Sunamganj, Sylhet
2. 1.1 Background:>>>
The Sunamganj haor basin is characterized by a deep shallow
depression. Most of the area most of the area is inundated from May to
October every year. In addition to the regular pattern of flooding the
area is also vulnerable to serious flash floods.
4. 1.2 Problem:>>>
•Victim to unplanned development.
•Land losing their fertility because of rapid construction of roads
and unplanned flood protection embankment.
•People have started filling Haor areas to construct housing.
•only 11 % households, which have hygienic latrine
•Flooding, high water table, excessive rainfall and loose soil
formation are the causes of overflow and collapse pit latrine.

high artificially raised mound.
