1. Margaret Mahy Sam and Rebecca
Margaret Mahy was born on March the 21st 1936 and died 23 July 2012. She was
New Zealand born author she was born in Whakatane and died in Christchurch.
Margaret Mahy was the eldest of 5 children her father was a Bridge Builder and he
told her adventure stories when she was young which made her want to start
writing and her mother was a teacher. She wrote her first book at the age of 7
called Harry Is Bad she showed her class to show them that they can write a story
what ever there age. She went to the local high school and was known as a
talented swimmer.
Before she became a author she worked as a librarian in Petone in 1976. She
completed her undergraduate BA at Auckland University (1952-1954) graduating in
1955. In 1956 she trained at the New Zealand Library School.
Margaret Mahy has written more than 120 books that were written translated into
15 languages. Among her well known works are “A Lion in the Meadow” “The Man
Whose Mother Was a pirate” and “ Bubble Trouble.”
She had two cats and a tall standard poodle called Baxter. Her hobbies were
reading, swimming, walking and fussing with her pets. Her favorite food was salad
sandwiches and her favorite color was blue and green.
The books she like to read The mouse and his Child by Russell Hoban and The
Just So Stories by Rudyard Kipling.
Many people love her books and many people will be sad about her loss now is
the end of books from her.
