Childhood/Education• Her father was a bridge builder and her mother was a school teacher, Margaret was the eldest of 5 siblings. Margaret Mahy published her ﬁrst book at the age of 7 called ‘Harry is Bad’, she showed it to her class to let them know that you are never to young to write and enjoy it! She went to Auckland University College completing her undergraduate BA in 1954 then graduated at Canterbury University, graduating in 1955. She then trained at New Zealand Library School, Wellington in 1956.
Career• She worked as a librarian in Petone, School Library Service in Christchurch, and in 1976 she worked as a children librarian at Canterbury Public Library. She began to be a full time writer in 1980 and has gone to win many awards for her books.•
