2. In this still we see a close up of a pair of glasses. These glasses
belonged to the victim. This still relates to the thriller genre
because it is mysterious, glasses are supposed to be worn and are
relatively delicate so if they are lying on the floor then evidently
there is something wrong. The blood splatter on the wall behind
does not install and positivity into the still. The glasses also may
shock the audience as the victim is portrayed to be a normal and
innocent human as they give a sense of the person being guiltless.

3. In this still the man is taking a picture of the
man he has just killed. This directly relates to
the thriller genre because it is incredibly dark
and quite unsettling. It is also strange because
the film is called memento and he is taking a
memento of his victim.

4. In this still we see the killer, he has blood on his face.
This relates to the thriller genre because blood is
related to death and injury. It is also relates to
horror and evil, making the viewer fear the
character and also suspicious of them.

5. This is a close up shot of a blood splat. This
connotes an obvious theme of death and or pain
throughout the film. The director chose to include
this clip as the audience can feel the excitement
from the action but also feel fearful for what's to
come. The emphasis on blood in the first scene
foreshadows events of what may come later on in
the film; the audience are aware that many
injuries and gory scenes will take place.

6. In this still image you can clearly see a
printed photo taken of the victim that was
killed, this can symbolise a detective
theme to the film as its taken to figure out
the event. Furthermore, the photo gives
the title of the film a shocking introduction
as the audience will find the image
unsettling this gives makes the title a bold
statement and the audience are fully
aware that this film will be about death
and harming others.

7. In this still the man is dropping the gun
in reverse. This is to create suspense
and to show the mans lack of emotion
when it come to the act he has just
committed. He's just killed a man and
then casually chucked the murder
weapon as if it is nothing.

8. This still is just text however simple things can
still be very effective and aid in portraying the
films genre. The blue and black are contrasting
colours which significantly intensifies the text
and helps it stand out. I think the blue and black
have been used in order to create a mysterious
atmosphere.

9. In this still the man shakes the polaroid
and it is in reverse so the photo
actually fades. I think this has been
done in order to represent the mans
memory fading .

10. This still is when the man has just been shot. The
purpose of this scene is to make the theme of death
very clear to the viewer. They want the viewer to
become engrossed in the film and try and work out
what is going to happen next.
