12. Personal Statement I am very interested in pursuing a career in the creative industries, particularly advertising, brand
management and digital marketing and I would like to continue my education in these areas. Throughout school I took
a keen interest in Business and Media. I studied Business, Film Studies and Media at AS Level in my first year of college.
I achieved good results in Business and I have always been fascinated by the way Media is used in business and how
companies use different methods to boost and promote their brands. In Media Studies I have learnt various skills,
designing and creating products such as magazines, video and websites. In Business I have learnt about management,
human resources and the way companies work. My current course is Level 3 Creative Media Production and Technology
at York College. During this course I have been taught in 4 different areas; video game animation, print, video and
website design. I have learnt a variety of skills throughout this process, developing my understanding of the Adobe
Creative Suite. I am currently producing work for a client project where I will re-design a local pub's website and
marketing material. I believe excellent online image and brand presentation is essential for all businesses and I would
like to do a university course that looks at how to use these creative media skills in a business context. I have been
developing my knowledge of different types of business by working in part time jobs alongside my studies. I have
worked at fashion retailers Luke 1977, The North Face and Timberland stores. These jobs have allowed me to develop
my skills in dealing with customers, stock management and presentation and have given me insight into how customers
respond to brands and products in a physical retail environment. I have also worked in local pubs and at external events
as a waiter and a kitchen assistant. These have also helped me learn how to work as part of a team and quickly build
strong rapport with both colleagues and customers. Outside college I lead an active life with hobbies including sports
and fashion. I am also passionate about dance music and travel. I like to travel to music festivals across England and I
try to travel to and experience different European cities and cultures as often as I can, recently visiting Dublin, Berlin,
Amsterdam and Ibiza. I believe my studies, work and personal experiences to date have prepared me well for University
and I am keen to keep developing my knowledge and skills and learn how to apply digital media skills in a business
environment. My ambition is to one day own my own business working with clients in the creative industries. In
conclusion I want to go to university in order to prepare myself for working in a creative business environment, focusing
on media production, brand management or marketing. I aim to gain skills and knowledge to put to use in a
professional context. I am motivated and feel ready to take this next step in developing my career.
