Estings evaluation
1. E-Stings Evaluation
I think I met the aim of the brief very well because it is a well made sting that is
quite similar to examples I looked at that other people have made and
submitted for the E-Stings competition. I included sound effects, lots of
animation and I think it fits the brief very well. I used most of the correct
methods and techniques, I mainly used Adobe After Effects to put my
sequence but I used Photoshop and Illustrator to make the image before it is
animated, I used the E4 logo (numerous times) as well as including the
provided sound effects. I feel like I was skilful because I wasn’t very handy with
after effects before I made this and I feel I had to be skilful to make it, I think
my after effects skills have improved since as well. Also I learned a few new
photo shop skills which I needed to create the original unanimated image. I
think it is quite professional because it looks professionally made and looks like
it took lots of time, effort and skill and it also looks like other E4 stings which
are obviously made by professionals. I think the background image is slightly
untidy though because it was slightly rushed which is quite unprofessional so
that is the only real downside. I showed that I could solve problems because
once I had done all the planning I had no clue how to make the sequence or
what programs to use, I solved this by asking my teacher for help who started
off by showing me how to create the background image and then decided that
after effects was the best program to create the sequence. Another problem
was that I wasn’t very good with after effects but again I asked my teacher and
he showed me the techniques required to create the sequence. The areas for
improvement are mainly that there were a lot of ways to show my idea and
there could be one that looks a lot better that I could’ve done, also I could’ve
tidied up the image in the background a bit because it looks a bit messy in
parts and slightly unprofessional. There may be a few minor improvements I
could make but overall I’m pleased with the graphic and don’t t think there are
many potential improvements.
My research was effective because after looking at some of last year’s E-Stings
graphics and some existing E4 stings, it gave me a good idea of the kind of
things that should be included in the graphic. Also I did a bit of research into
how the stings were made just to give me an idea of how difficult they would
be to create. I didn’t really record my findings as I worked because the
2. research was all part of one maybe two tasks but I did record it as I found it
whilst doing these tasks. I asked for my teacher’s opinion on my idea to see if it
was a good idea and if it wasn’t too difficult to make, then at certain stages of
making the graphic I asked my teacher if it looked good enough and if he said it
didn’t I would improve it. Obviously when I had finished I asked people’s
opinions then just to see if it looked good enough to be my final graphic.
Planning was effective because it allowed me to choose the idea I believed was
the best from many ideas I came up with whereas had I not planned, I
would’ve chose an idea that I could’ve easily improved. Also it helped me work
out the target audience for my graphic so I could make it to be aimed at that
audience. My preparation was quite poor because after choosing my idea I
hadn’t even thought about how to make it/what programs to use and it
could’ve been too difficult for me to make, I would think about it next time
before I jump into it. I think the production was effective because although I
didn’t really know how to use after effects but I picked it up as I went along
and followed the plan for producing the graphic, I think it was effective
because I created what I think is a graphic that looks good on a program that at
first I couldn’t use. My time management wasn’t very effective because I
ended up rushing a lot of the tasks because the deadline was approaching, I
left some tasks to the last minute and also I couldn’t complete my graphic
unless I was in a specific class because I needed help with it so this had an
effect on my time management. Project management wasn’t very effective
either because of the order I completed the tasks and because I was rushing
tasks because they were not finished, I have completed everything now
however so my project management improved as I got further into it. My
monitoring work in progress was effective because I had to keep asking and
checking if my graphic looked good enough and what I could do to improve it, I
did this so my graphic looked as good as possible first time round and I think it
is handy if monitoring work in progress is effective. I feel my creative ability
was effective because I came up with a bunch of ideas which I thought were all
quite good and fit the brief even though I didn’t choose them, I also used my
creativity and made the idea my own. My artwork compared quite well with
my original intentions because the whole idea of a meteorite crashing and
exploding into little ones worked quite well but I felt I could’ve made it look
more like what I’d intended it to look like, this was quite difficult however. I
3. think it looks enough like what I had intended it to look like. I feel it works for
the intended audience because of the sound and sound effects used, they
would appeal to that specific audience. Also I think the fact it’s animated helps
it appeal to the audience because it doesn’t look dull and boring, also the
bright colours add to this and just make it look like something that is aimed
predominantly at teenagers, it would probably appeal more to males than
females though. I am pleased with the way it looks because it looks fairly
professional and looks like the stings that are currently used on E4, I am
pleased with the style I created because it is almost my own style and it just
looks good and should appeal to the audience. I am pleased with the
techniques I used because they made it look almost as good as it can look and
they were difficult techniques to use but I have picked them up now and will
be able to used them in the future for similar projects. I feel it is ready for print
because it looks good, looks professional and appeals to the intended
audience, with a bit of tidying up it would definitely be ready for print.
