The magazine which I have produced features a mid-shot of the main
protagonist within the film trailer that I have produced. This is a key
piece of promotion as it features the main actor of the film and therefore
the audience can directly link the magazine to the film. I have used the
image of the protagonist rather than the antagonist as I believe this is
the character that is more relatable to the audience. This can be seen
as within the trailer, the antagonist is seen as a mysterious character
that the audience do not have a direct link to. Whereas, the camera
work in the trailer features the point of view shot from the protagonists
perspective.
The background image links the magazine directly to the genre and
location of the other pieces of promotional work. The mist creates a
creepy effect which is conventional of the Thriller film genre. Whereas,
the tree links the image to the woodland setting without distracting
attention away from the main image.
The images that I used on the magazine and the poster have both been
edited in order for them to look more conventional of the Thriller film
genre. This links the products clearly through their linked Thriller film
genre format.
The image on the poster continues the same themes as the image in
the magazine although I have added the antagonist to this shot as it is
conventional for the poster to feature more that one character on it, but
not the magazine.
Therefore, through making sure there is a clear link to the products
such as the addition of the background image relating to the location of
the film trailer and poster this ensures that all of the three products links
well together.
Camera Work and Editing on Trailer
I included the image of the antagonist making the shh symbol within the
trailer as it clearly links the products together. Through looking into
Thriller films I found that there was always an image that could be
immediately associated with film. It also has a clear link to the title and
therefore, links all of the products together.
Colours
The magazine uses a dark colour scheme combining blue, black and
grey to present the information to the audience. I have chosen these
colours as they work effectively together , in addition to looking
professional and aesthetically pleasing. Additionally, the grey mist is
effective as it connotes mystery which is a conventional theme within
the Thriller film genre.
The cover lines on the magazine are shown as set back, which shows
that they are less important than the main cover story.

Fonts
The magazine uses the Woodland style typography that can
be seen within both the poster and the film trailer. This is
effective as it also links the product to the location within the
film through the use of the woodland effect within the
magazine. This creates a sense of brand identity as when
people see the font even without reading all of the text they
can immediately associate it to the product.
The strapline is featured on the front cover of the magazine
which is designed make the magazine look appealing to the
audience.

The masthead of the magazine is located at the top of the
page and is set in front of the protagonists head, allowing
the audience to instantly recognise the topics located within
the magazine
The main image is the key selling point of the magazine and
is effective brand identity as through placing the key actor in
the film on the front the product is recognisable to anyone
who has seen the trailer. The image is placed between the
centre and right third of the page and is an effective use of
composition for the magazine.

The route of the eye layout format is used within the magazine
front cover which is used to draw the audience’s attention
across the magazine. This is a conventional magazine format
that is a house style of film promotions such as in Empire
magazine.

Mise-en-scene
Clothing- Within the image on the front cover of the
magazine, I have used the same clothing as in the poster
and the film trailer. This ensures that there is continuity
between the three pieces of work. There is a some scene in
the trailer that feature additional clothing such as a jacket
however, we ensured that this was of a similar colour
scheme in order to provide an effective snapshot of the
narrative of the film.
Lighting- The use of low-key lighting is used throughout the
products that I have used. I have done this as it is
conventional of the Thriller film genre and it ensures that the
three pieces match well together. In the images that I have
used in the poster and magazine these have been edited in
order to give a darker and more sinister appearance to the
ancillary products.
Setting- The majority of the film trailer is filmed in a
woodland location . I have ensured this continues on into the
magazine. I have done this through adding the tree
background to the image.
Therefore, the mise-en-scene which I have used within this
magazine is effective brand identity as the theme of the
mise-en-scene is similar throughout. This therefore, links the
products together and identifies the key elements of this to
the audience.
Throughout both of the film trailers there is a consistent link to the themes of isolation and vulnerability which in turn create the suspense which drives the narrative of both of the trailers.
This also links all three of the promotional pieces together as the themes are consistent throughout the magazine, poster and the film trailer.

Comparison

Both of the posters feature the theme of isolation. Within the one which I have produced this can be seen
with the shot of the empty shot of the woodland which highlights how isolated and alone the location is.
Whereas, I am Legend is an apocalyptic Thriller that represents decay through the black and yellow
colour scheme and through the destroyed bridge which is representative of the destruction of transport
links. Additionally, the I Am Legend poster features birds flying in the background, this is representative
of freedom and escape, which are key themes of the Thriller film genre.

The title is written of the I Am Legend is white serif font so that it stands out against the
background. Additionally, the L and D are written in a larger font in order for the tagline to fit in
the middle effectively. Through placing the tagline close to the title it ensures that it catches
the audiences attention. Similarly the font used within the products which I have made clearly
stand out against the background of the film poster. However, each of the films feature the
different points in the poster such as the use of the wide-shot on the characters. Although this
is linked to the difference in the sub-genre of the films.

Use of strap lines and phrases such a ‘win’ and ‘special edition capture the audiences attention and
draws them to the key point of information on the front page of the magazine.
Through featuring the main actor of the film trailer on the front cover of the magazine this links the
products together which makes the magazine instantly recognisable to the viewer of the magazine. The
image of the actor is also clearly the main point on the cover of both of the magazine’s. This can be seen
as in both of the images the background does not block out any of the features on the image of the main
actor.
The mise-en-scene of both of the magazines are clearly linked to the genre of the film through featuring
themes such as isolation, mystery, vulnerability and suspense within the film. This can be seen through
the use of the dark foggy backgrounds in both of the images.
Both of the magazine’s use the route of the eye layout. This allows the audience to take in the key point
of the magazine straight away when they look at it. Therefore the key sections are placed along this.
Additionally, both feature film stills at the bottom of the route of the eye. This allows the audience to
associate the cover story with the films within this section.
