The presentation defines innovation as the process of translating ideas into goods and services that create value for customers. It discusses different types of innovation and notes that innovation inherently involves risk, both for innovators and investors. The presentation then examines areas of innovation relevant to actuaries like big data, new economic models, and digital platforms. It provides examples of innovative insurance, banking, and pension products from the Netherlands. Finally, it discusses challenges to innovation in the Dutch financial system like a focus on zero risk and challenges in communicating with pension plan members.
Presentation by Jos Berkemeijer for Facet Actuaries. From an ethical, practical en professional (actuarial) viewpoint, negative interest rates, zero risk attitude consequences and long term prediction methods are questioned discussed.

Can Lean help improve the Architecture Maturity of an entire Organization?Institut Lean France
Architecture is more often recognized as an art than as a science. At the Lean Digital Summit, Pierre Marchand and Christian Phan-Trong from Swiss Life will discuss how taking a fresh look at Architectural activities through a process and a “Lean” lens can yield unexpected benefits for the Architects as individuals and as a team. They also explained how this approach can greatly improve the architectural quality of the deliverables and the architectural maturity of an Organization.

With all of the success of Lean in the startup community, this should be pretty easy to implement in the Corporate environment, right? After launching with very little to show in the way of success, the team in Ericsson’s Atlanta Idea Factory had to take a step back and evaluate what changes were necessary to implement Enterprise Lean Startup with success. One key principle had to be learned… People are an organization’s greatest asset, AND its greatest barrier to success.

Ken Durand, Head of Innovation at the Atlanta Ideas Factory (Ericsson) talks about hitting the ground running with a Lean Startup program only to find that the results were (shall we say) mediocre. In this honest talk, he’ll discuss what it took to get the necessary (continued) support, why it was imperative for the team to do an honest self-assessment of what was going right, and more importantly, what was going wrong. He’ll lead a participatory discussion with the audience on how to hire and lead for innovation.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
