We take great pride in sharing with you, Vignettes 2013 – 14, the Year in Review.
Last year, we encapsulated one year of learning at Inventure Academy in a Power Point
Presentation. We called the presentation, Vignettes 2012-13. While we found the task quite
challenging, we also found it extremely self-affirming. Last year’s Vignettes was so well received,
that we have decided to make it an Annual Report / The Year in Review, with wonderful pictures
and links to relevant articles and videos.
If you really think about it, Inventure Academy does it all - academics, life skills, field / outbound
trips, guest lectures, internships, music, sports, dance and drama. All the activities, recorded for
posterity in Vignettes 2013-14, hold an important place in the spectrum of education and life

Thank you for being proactive partners in the education of our children. We hope you enjoy

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

M
edia violence has a great effect on
physical and mental
health of children and
adolescents as violence
exposed through Television,
Movies, Music and video
games. Exposure of vio-
lence in the form of video
games results in acceptance of violence as
means of solving problems.
Children would prefer video games that
award points for violence against others.
Media portrays carrying and using of
weapons as personal power. Children and
adolescents addicted to violent games
manifest physical as well as behav-
ioural problems such as
loss of sleep, night-
mares headache,
aggressive, stubborn,
highly emotional,
impaired decision
making, suicidal
thoughts and non-empathetic.
Children education gets affected by
bunking classes, lack of concentration, iso-
lated and poor academic performance.
Parents advised to be alert and play a vital
role to control media violence exposure to
children.
1. To develop friendly relationship, communicate
freely and spend time with children which diverts
their mind towards social media addiction.
2. Limit screen time up to 2 hours /day and
monitor them .Turn off TV during meals time.
3. Remove TV, Internet connection,
video games from children bedrooms.
4. Involve children in video games rewarding points
for positive behaviour like helping tendency, nur-
turing character which inculcates good thoughts.
5. Seek advice from psychologists and counsellors.

ndian golfer Diksha Dagar produced a
sizzling seven-under 64 in the final round
to sign off at the third place, her best
result of the season, at the Lacoste Ladies
Open de France in Deauville (France).
The result also carried her to 45th spot
in the Race to Costa del Sol standings for
LET. Diksha finished third behind Ines Lak-
lalech and Meghan MacLaren, who were
involved in a play-off hole, which was won
by Laklalech on the par-4 18th, at Golf Bar-
rière. An elated Diksha thanked her father,
Col Naren Dagar, for his guidance as her
caddie during the tournament. “I’m very
happy to see the direction that my game is
heading in. Unfortunately, on the first day,
I had six birdies but (also had) a number of
bogeys, so I was thinking that I needed to
cut down the bogeys,” she said.
Starting the day at 4-under and in T-12
place, Diksha hit three straight birdies on
first three holes. She added two more on
seventh and ninth to turn in 5-under 30. A
day earlier she played the same stretch in
6-under 29. On the back nine, Diksha added
birdies on 10th, 13th and 14th to go to 8-un-
der and in going for one more on the 18th
she dropped her only bogey of the day and
finished at 64. Laklalech has made history
by becoming the first Moroccan, first Arab
and first North African woman to win a
Ladies European Tour title. PTI

T
he Indian tennis team
could not overcome
their Davis Cup 2022
World Group I oppo-
nent Norway on Sat-
urday, ending in a 3-1 loss for
them. India will now compete in
the World Group I play-off round
for the following year’s competi-
tion. Needing to win all its match-
es on Day 2, the Indian team lost
their very first match of the day
with Yuki Bhambri and Saketh
Myneni going down in doubles.
With both Prajnesh Gunneswaran
and Ramkumar Ramanathan los-
ing their respective singles matc-
hes to world No. 2 Casper Ruud and
Viktor Durasovic Durasovic re-
spectively, on Day 1, India entered
Day 2 needing to win all their three
matches to salvage the tie.
DOUBLES SPECIALISTS
LET DOWN
In the first match of the day
, a dou-
bles contest, Yuki Bhambri and
Saketh Myneni paired up to look for
the win which would keep India in
the tie but lost 3-6, 6-3, 3-6 to Casper
Ruud and Viktor Durasovic at the
Hakons Hall in Lillehammer. Yuki
Bhambri and Saketh Myneni, both
doubles specialists, were expected
to put up a stiff challenge consid-
ering the duo is coming off a suc-
cessful 2022 season, which saw them
win five ATP Challengers and two
Futures events.
However, the Indian pair found
themselves on the ropes as they fail-
ed to hold their serve in the second
game. Bhambri and Myneni imme-
diately broke the Norway pair and
levelledupthescoreat2-2inthefirst
set but Ruud and Durasovic seemed
more comfortable on home turf and
cruised to a 6-3 win in the first set.
Yuki Bhambri and Saketh My-
neni put up a much better challenge
in the second set and finally broke
through the Norway pair’s serve in
the sixth game. The Indians held on
to reverse the scores from set one and
forced a third set. Ruud and Viktor
Durasovic stayed solid from there on
out to close out the match in just un-
der two hours.
With Norway 3-0 up in the five-
match tie, the remaining two singles
matches became dead rubbers. Sum-
it Nagal, playing for the first time in
the tie, finally registered India on the
scoreboard with a 6-2, 6-1 win over
Lukas Hellum Lilleengen and made it 3-1.
DUTCH BEAT AMERICANS
Botic van de Zandschulp and Tallon Griek-
spoor won their singles against Americans
Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul for the Nether-
lands to finish top of their Davis Cup Finals
group with a 2-1 win. Van de Zandschulp set-
tled the tie when he defeated Fritz, the world
No. 12, 6-4, 7-6 (3) after Griekspoor opened
with a 7-5, 7-6 (3) victory over Paul. The Dutch
had a 2-0 lead, then Rajeev Ram and Jack
Sock earned some compensation for the Ame-
ricans by winning their doubles against Wes-
ley Koolhof and Matwe Middelkoop. AGENCIES

Harry Kane celebrates after scoring the
equalising goal
S
on Heung-min said he nev-
er doubted he would end
his goal drought as the
South Korea star respond-
ed to being dropped by hit-
ting an incredible 13-
minute hat-trick in Tot-
tenham’s 6-2 rout of Leicester on Satur-
day
. Son came off the bench to score Tot-
tenham’s last three goals, including a
pair of brilliant long-range finishes, in
an emphatic victory that lifted them into
second place in the Premier League.
IDEAL RESPONSE
It was the ideal response from Son after
he had been axed for failing to score in
his previous eight appearances. Just
days after Tottenham boss Antonio Con-
te had warned that no player was un-
droppable, Dejan Kulusevski came in
for Son, who finished as the Premier
League’s joint top scorer last season. Ex-
plaining Son’s omission, Conte said: “We
needed to start making rotations because
playing all the same players in all the
games is not good.” The 30-year-old’s tre-
ble showed he won’t sulk when Conte
wants to take him out of the firing line.
“My finishing has been poor this sea-
son. I’ve also been a little bit unlucky,”
Son said. It was the perfect evening for
Tottenham, who bounced back after los-
ing for the first time in eight games this
season on Tuesday when Sporting Lis-
bon scored twice in stoppage-time to seal
a 2-0 win in the Champions League. Tot-
tenham’s fifth win from seven league
games moved them above Arsenal and
level on points with leaders Manchester
City.
SIXTH SUCCESSIVE
DEFEAT
Bottom of the table Leices-
ter’s sixth successive de-
feat will pile pressure on
boss Brendan Rodgers. “It’s
been a really difficult start.
It’s my responsibility.
Whatever happens to me at
Leicester, whether I stay
and fight on, I’ll always re-
spect them,” Rodgers said.
Beleaguered Leicester
had taken the lad when
Davinson Sanchez con-
ceded a spot-kick with a
needless lunge on James
Justin. Hugo Lloris saved Youri Tiele-
mans’ penalty, but VAR showed the Tot-
tenham keeper had stepped off his line
before the kick, giving the Belgian mid-
fielder a retake that he gratefully con-
verted. Since spending a disappointing
loan spell at Leicester early in his ca-
reer, Harry Kane had tormented the Fox-
es with 19 goals against them before this
latest meeting. Kane took that tally to 20
as the England captain escaped Timo-
thy Castagne’s slack marking to meet
Kulusevski’s cross with a clinical far
post header in the eighth minute. Leices-
ter’s weakness in aerial duels was ex-
posed again in the 21st minute when Eric
Dier ran across his marker to score with
a fine glancing header from Ivan
Perisic’s corner. Rodgers’ side equalised
with a bolt from the blue as
James Maddison met
Castagne’s cross with a half-
volley that arched over
Lloris into the far corner in
the 41st minute.
But the turning point
came when Wilfred Ndidi al-
lowed himself to be dispos-
sessed by Rodrigo Bentan-
cur deep inside his own half
in the 47th minute. The
Uruguay midfielder drove
forward to slam a fierce fin-
ish past Danny Ward from
the edge of the area for his
first Tottenham goal.
Son replaced Richarlison in the 59th
minute and stole the spotlight as he
bagged his long-awaited goal in the 73rd
minute. Receiving Bentancur’s pass 30
yards from goal, Son advanced with pur-
pose and rifled a brilliant finish into the
top corner, but that was only the start.
Picked out by Kane in the 84th minute,
Son repeated his long-range magic as he
bent a stunning strike past Ward from
20 yards. Two minutes later, Son sprint-
ed onto Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s pass for
a cool finish that survived a VAR check
for offside as the South Korean cele-
brated by triumphantly holding up three
fingers. AGENCIES
Football is crazy sometimes. Sometimes the ball didn’t want to
go inside and three times (it did today). It changes every-
thing. I learned so much in this tough period. I need to
work hard every time to get the chance.
