Save Craigie Hall, an early Charles Rennie Mackintosh MasterpieceMackintosh_fan
Craigie Hall was in 1978 included in the Secretary of State’s Listed Buildings of Special
Architectural or Historic Interest of Category A. (This is the highest grading and notes a building
of national or international significance).
This was in recognition not only of the fine qualities of the exterior of this very substantial
Victorian villa, but also of the superb interiors, remodelled in places by the internationally
celebrated Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The building represents what is for Glasgow a unique
example of its kind, namely a splendid late Victorian house built for a wealthy entrepreneur,
altered and updated over the years using the very best materials and the most prestigious architects
available at the time, resulting in a building in late 19th Century classical style with interiors of the
highest standard possible.
The
charming face carved into the fitted armchair in the corner is an example of the designs of
Mackintosh and his group at the Glasgow School of Art during the early 1890’s.
The curious bird-like forms which almost seem to have alighted on top of the book cases are
one of the earliest examples of a motif which was to reappear many times in Mackintosh’s
work. The bay windowed cupboards set into the face of the shelving appear later in the south
face of Mackintosh’s masterwork, the Glasgow School of Art. But, the overall design retains
a Victorian solidity that testifies both to Mackintosh’s youth and to the guiding hand of John
Keppie who would have supervised his work.
Mackintosh appears to have been responsible for the design.
The large white fireplace and overmantel at the end of the room would therefore have been
detailed in part by Mackintosh. It is a very similar design to the piece that he detailed for
the Smoking Room at the Glasgow Art Club in 1892, the principal difference being that,
at Craigie Hall, the fireplace is and always has been white. This scheme of decoration
(promoted in 1873 by Mary Howeis) was a means of delineating the more feminine domain
of the house in contrast with the more formal and masculine decoration of the remainder.
In 1897, four years after his initial involvement at Craigie Hall, Mackintosh returned in a
more independent role to add the organ case to the Music Room. In the previous year he
had won the competition to design the new Glasgow School of Art. We can assume that
Thomas Mason had appreciated and enjoyed the ‘unusual’ elements in the 1893 work and
Mackintosh’s competition success may have been the spur for him to develop his association
with this up and coming designer. If so, he possibly got more than he bargained for!
At the opposite end of the room is a fireplace with an overmantel designed by Mackintosh
displaying charming carved decorative pieces reminiscent of the work of Aubrey Beardsley.
The organ case is perhaps Mackintosh’s most significant piece of interior work prior to
1900. It is his only surviving musical instrument.

The One Street Museum in Kiev has been exploring the history of the Andreyevsky spusk street for fifteen years. Though small, it has become one of the most popular museums in Kiev through its extensive collection of historical documents, photographs, antiques, and objects that immerse visitors in the nostalgic atmosphere of the past. The museum illustrates how prominent figures from Ukrainian and Russian science and culture lived in the densely populated street in the late 19th century, as if these historical neighbors still reside alongside one another. In 2002, the One Street Museum was nominated for the European Museum Forum, making it the first and only Ukrainian museum to participate in this international organization.

LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UPRAHUL
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
crucial for coordinated efforts across different administrative levels. Advanced technologies like

capital in the world. About Kyiv.
Kyiv — the Capital of Ukraine
Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, has the population of nearly three million
inhabitants and covers over 43 km from east to west and 42 km from north to
south.
According to the legend, Kyiv was founded by three brothers — Kyi,
Shchek, and Khoryv, — and their sister Lybid. The city was named after Kyi, the
eldest brother.
Today Kyiv is one of the greatest ancient European cities, rich with the
monuments of art and architecture. It is a political, scientific, cultural, sports, and
industrial centre of modern Ukraine.
The city lies on both banks of the Dnieper. Kyiv is a garden city; only a
seventh part of its territory is occupied by buildings.
Kyiv is the largest ancient centre of national Ukrainian culture. There are 20
museums, 1300 libraries, 41 theatres, 121 parks.
Kyiv is especially beautiful in spring when the famous Kyiv chestnut trees
are in blossom.

places of interests of Kyiv. Let`s meet Miss Darya.
P 1. Good morning. My name`s Miss Darya. I`d like to meet you with the first
sightseeing of our capital. Now we are on the main street of Kyiv. It`s Khreschatyk
Street.
Khreshchatyk
Khreschatyk is the main street in Kiev. It is not very long, but it is wide and
straight. You can see many cars and trolley buses in Khreshchatyk. In the
middle of Khreshchatyk is the Square of Independence – the main square of
the Ukrainian capital. A lot of people go to Khreshchatyk every day. Some of
them go shopping because there are many good shops and big market there.
Other people go to the cinema, look at the fountains or sit on the benches. In
the evening many people walk in Khreshchatyk. There you can see many
bright lights. People like the main street of Kiev because it is nice and green.
P 2. Hello, everybody. I`m Mr Maxim and our next place of interest is St. Michael
Monastery.
St. Michael’s Monastery
The monastery was founded in 1108. Today, the complex of monuments of St.
Michael’s Monastery of the golden domes includes the Bell Tower, a stone wall,
and the Refectory. At present it is a working monastery.
Out of the walls of the St. Michael’s Monastery there is a monument to the
victims of the Famine, which is always covered with fresh flowers. It is also a
monument to the Grand Princess Olga on Mykhailivskiy Square. The applied
material is the white Italian marble. The famous Kyivan princess is surrounded by
statues of Apostle Andrew and the creators of the Cyrillic alphabet saints Cyrill
and Mephody.
P 3. Hello, everybody. I`m Miss Albina and I`m going to tell you about St. Sophia
Cathedral.
St. Sophia Cathedral
The great St. Sophia Cathedral is situated opposite to St. Michael’s Monastery.
This temple was founded in 1036, in commemoration of the victory over the
Pecheneg tribe. The cathedral became a major cultural and political center of
Kyivan Rus. The Bell Tower of Sophia Monastery is 76 meters high; its surface
was gilded with about 4kg of pure gold. At present it is a museum. The St. Sophia
Cathedral is famous for it original mosaic.
5. P 4. Good morning, dear tourists. I am Mr Misha. And the last place of interest for
today is Andriyvsky Uzviz.
Andriyvsky Uzviz
The ancient legend tells, that Apostle Andrew visited Dnipro hills in 51s year
before B.C. He hoisted the Cross on the hill and prophesied about the great
city and that Christian faith will shine in this place. On this place in 1754 a
stone Andrew’s Church was built and street was named Andriyvsky Uzviz.
This street is a favorite place for outdoor fairs, festivals, and concerts. Art
galleries, shops and studios make Andriyvsky Uzviz the best place to shop for
Ukrainian crafts and art-works. There are galleries, exhibitions and different
museums located here. St. Andrew Church XVIII century architecture pearl
dominates this street. Height of the church is 60 m. This five-domed church
remains the major adornment of the upper city.
