Kiev
Kiev (Ukrainian Kyiv) - the capital and largest city of Ukraine, a city-
hero. Located on the Dnieper River. Is the center of Kiev metropolitan
area. Kiev - a separate administrative unit of Ukraine, cultural and
governmental center of the country, as well as the administrative
center of the Kiev region. Located in the north central part of Ukraine.
The population is growing at an average of 20 tys.ch. per year. Kiev -
the sixth most populous city in Europe after Moscow, London, St.
Petersburg, Berlin and Madrid.
Monuments
 Kiev is a wonderful place to explore as there are so many amazing
attractions in such achievable distances from each other
Kiev is the third greenest capital city in Europe and is
considered to be one of the oldest and most beautiful. You
will find many parks and romantic tree lined boulevards,
and it is especially beautiful in spring and autumn. It is
built mostly on hills overlooking the river Dnipro.
ANDRIYIVSKI UZVIZ (ST. ANDREWS
CHURCH)
It is an integral part of the old Kiev, and one of the oldest streets in Eastern Europe. At the top
of the hill you will see the stunning "St. Andrew's Church“. Today the street has become a
mixture of art galleries and artists selling paintings, and souvenir stalls selling mass produced
Soviet tourist paraphernalia and old traditional Ukrainian folk crafts.
HETMAN BOHDAN KHMELNITSKY
and
ST. SOFIA CATHEDRAL
Bohdan Khmelnytsky (born 1595, died 1657) was the leader (1648-57) of the
Zaporozhian Cossacks who organized a rebellion against Polish rule in Ukraine
that ultimately led to the transfer of the Ukrainian lands east of the Dnieper River
from Polish to Russian control.
Bohdan Khmelnytsy is revered as a national hero who pushed for Ukrainian
independence.
Sofia Cathedral is the world
famous historical and
architectural monument of the
first half of the 11th century. The
name of the cathedral comes
from Greek word "sofia", which
means "wisdom". Built in the
times of Yaroslav Mudry, the
cathedral served as a social,
political and cultural center of
Kiev Rus.
Rodina Mat - Motherland Statue
Rodina Mat is part of the Great Patriotic war museum. The whole complex occupies a territory
of 20 hectares. It also includes Great Patriotic war museum, located directly under the monument.
Sometimes it is possible to take a lift up to the top of the monument but not always available. You
will also find a collection of Russian and Ukrainian planes, tanks and military hardware on
show. When you get inside the shield you will have a fantastic panoramic view of Kiev.
Monument to Founders of Kiev
Legend says that Kiev (Kyiv) was founded by three
brothers Kyy, Khoryv, Shchek and their sister Lybid.
Independence Square
Also known as ‘Maidan Nezalezhnosti’ is the central square of Kiev and the place for the
Orange Revolution (2004). It is located on Khreshchatyk Street in the Shevchenko Raion. It’s a
huge open space with fountains, the Independence Column, the famous Hotel Ukraina and
across the Khreshchatyk street, benches and some stalls together with Lyadski Gate.
National Opera House of Ukraine
Established in 1867, the National Opera House of Ukraine is an ornate, romantic theatre with
a 200 year history, this opera house is currently home to the Kiev Opera Company. Aficionados
of classical music, this is your destination. Known for drawing world class talent, this facility is
one of the most prestigious in the country.
Vozdvizhenka
Vozdvizhyenka similar to a set of a film about the town, where all the people are
gone. This place is popular among those wishing to arrange a photo shoot. On the
streets of this town-ghost you can find curious bystanders with cameras, wedding
procession.You can get an unusual experience from walking through the luxury estate,
located in the historical center of Kiev. Looks like a "dead city" – noone lives behind
the brightly colored facades.

contains more than 300 pieces from all over the country.
Chestnut - Blooming symbol of Kiev
 Our city is beautiful at any time. But most of all visitors gathers here,
apparently still in the spring, when the Kiev white-pink chestnuts are
blooming in April, because Kiev is called the city of chestnuts.

was a popular Ukrainian actor
and the minister of culture of
Ukraine. Stupka has played
