Combine SAS High-Performance Capabilities with Hadoop YARNHortonworks
What if you could assemble all your data in one system and run your critical analytic applications in parallel, regardless of the format, age or location of the data? Today, thanks to the economics of Apache Hadoop-based data platforms, in particular YARN, this is possible.
SAS applications bring highly advanced, in-memory analytic processing to the data in Hadoop and enable a rich set of additional use cases with high performance analytic needs. Join this webinar and learn how, by combining their solutions, Hortonworks and SAS offer more flexibility to choose best of breed SAS HPA and LASR analytic applications in conjunction with trusted Hadoop workloads. Hear how it is possible to leverage Hadoop clusters to extend the power of SAS analytics.

The Future of Hadoop by Arun Murthy, PMC Apache Hadoop & Cofounder HortonworksData Con LA
Arun Murthy will be discussing the future of Hadoop and the next steps in what the big data world would start to look like in the future. With the advent of tools like Spark and Flink and containerization of apps using Docker, there is a lot of momentum currently in this space. Arun will share his thoughts and ideas on what the future holds for us.
Bio:-
Arun C. Murthy
Arun is a Apache Hadoop PMC member and has been a full time contributor to the project since the inception in 2006. He is also the lead of the MapReduce project and has focused on building NextGen MapReduce (YARN). Prior to co-founding Hortonworks, Arun was responsible for all MapReduce code and configuration deployed across the 42,000+ servers at Yahoo!. In essence, he was responsible for running Apache Hadoop’s MapReduce as a service for Yahoo!. Also, he jointly holds the current world sorting record using Apache Hadoop. Hadoop - Looking to the Future By Arun Murthyhuguk
Hadoop - Looking to the Future
By Arun Murthy (Founder of Hortonworks, Creator of YARN)
The Apache Hadoop ecosystem began as just HDFS & MapReduce nearly 10 years ago in 2006.
Very much like the Ship of Theseus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ship_of_Theseus), Hadoop has undergone incredible amount of transformation from multi-purpose YARN to interactive SQL with Hive/Tez to machine learning with Spark.
Much more lies ahead: whether you want sub-second SQL with Hive or use SSDs/Memory effectively in HDFS or manage Metadata-driven security policies in Ranger, the Hadoop ecosystem in the Apache Software Foundation continues to evolve to meet new challenges and use-cases.
Arun C Murthy has been involved with Apache Hadoop since the beginning of the project - nearly 10 years now. In the beginning he led MapReduce, went on to create YARN and then drove Tez & the Stinger effort to get to interactive & sub-second Hive. Recently he has been very involved in the Metadata and Governance efforts. In between he founded Hortonworks, the first public Hadoop distribution company.
Part of the core Hadoop project, YARN is the architectural center of Hadoop that allows multiple data processing engines such as interactive SQL, real-time streaming, data science and batch processing to handle data stored in a single platform, unlocking an entirely new approach to analytics. It is the foundation of the new generation of Hadoop and is enabling organizations everywhere to realize a Modern Data Architecture.
With the rise of Apache Hadoop, a next-generation enterprise data architecture is emerging that connects the systems powering business transactions and business intelligence. Hadoop is uniquely capable of storing, aggregating, and refining multi-structured data sources into formats that fuel new business insights. Apache Hadoop is fast becoming the defacto platform for processing Big Data. Hadoop started from a relatively humble beginning as a point solution for small search systems. Its growth into an important technology to the broader enterprise community dates back to Yahoo’s 2006 decision to evolve Hadoop into a system for solving its internet scale big data problems. Eric will discuss the current state of Hadoop and what is coming from a development standpoint as Hadoop evolves to meet more workloads.

IoT Predictions for 2019 and Beyond: Data at the Heart of Your IoT StrategyHortonworks
Forrester forecasts* that direct spending on the Internet of Things (IoT) will exceed $400 Billion by 2023. From manufacturing and utilities, to oil & gas and transportation, IoT improves visibility, reduces downtime, and creates opportunities for entirely new business models.
But successful IoT implementations require far more than simply connecting sensors to a network. The data generated by these devices must be collected, aggregated, cleaned, processed, interpreted, understood, and used. Data-driven decisions and actions must be taken, without which an IoT implementation is bound to fail.

Supporting these needs, the USGS has partnered with the University of Chicago-Globus to research and develop advanced repository components and workflows leveraging its current investment in Globus. The primary outcome of this partnership includes the development of a prototype enterprise repository, driven by USGS Data Release requirements, through exploration and implementation of the entire suite of the Globus platform offerings, including Globus Flow, Globus Auth, Globus Transfer, and Globus Search. This presentation will provide insights into this research partnership, introduce the unique requirements and challenges being addressed and provide relevant project progress.
Climate Science Flows: Enabling Petabyte-Scale Climate Analysis with the Eart...Globus
The Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) is a global network of data servers that archives and distributes the planet’s largest collection of Earth system model output for thousands of climate and environmental scientists worldwide. Many of these petabyte-scale data archives are located in proximity to large high-performance computing (HPC) or cloud computing resources, but the primary workflow for data users consists of transferring data, and applying computations on a different system. As a part of the ESGF 2.0 US project (funded by the United States Department of Energy Office of Science), we developed pre-defined data workflows, which can be run on-demand, capable of applying many data reduction and data analysis to the large ESGF data archives, transferring only the resultant analysis (ex. visualizations, smaller data files). In this talk, we will showcase a few of these workflows, highlighting how Globus Flows can be used for petabyte-scale climate analysis.
