Arguments against the Use of School Uniforms
Uniforms
School uniforms in England were first introduced during the occupation of King Henry VII. England
is mostly known for their school uniforms even though British people are not very interested, in fact
they spend less money on clothes than the people of many European countries. Although, the school
uniforms are part of the British image, many individuals oppose the use of school uniforms. The
British is mostly known for their clothes, more specifically the school uniforms, it is one of their dress
code. Britain has influenced many countries to make school uniforms compulsory. Many continents
like Africa and Asia were forced while they were being colonized by Britain to make school uniforms
compulsory. Both the public and private schools are required to have its won colures, styles and the
dress code most not be neglected. When students are shown or exposed to the positive sides of having
school uniforms, they become more responsible students but do school uniforms contravenes the
student rights to self expression.
The most typical arguments against school uniforms are that students are not allowed to choose what
they want to wear. The students are limited, and there is no other way for self expression. The only
way for modern students to become unique and different from each other, is by having different
clothes and not school uniforms. Unfortunately, school uniforms make everybody look almost the
same. Many parents even complain about the

Shaping Identity in William Gibson s Neuromancer Essay
Shaping Identity in William Gibson s Neuromancer
The number one is not a thing. Math has no definitive reality. Numbers are a social construct, a system
of symbols designed to express the abstractions through which properly developed societies explain
aspects of reality. It follows that, as humanity seeks to understand more of what it is to exist, bigger
numbers are needed. Soon, we need machines to understand the numbers. Society plants a base on
information technology, efficiency, and a mechanical precision that is startling. What is desirable in a
product is distilled to a formulaic essence and packaged neatly. Humans, too, are boiled down to
science. Glossy shots, red lipstick, concrete biceps, and an ever decreasing waistline ... Show more

In Gibson s cyberpunk world, technology and humanity simultaneously clash and meld, creating a
society in which humans scramble to interact with technology, using it to gain footholds or augment
their actual physical bodies. Humanity, in a sense, ceases to be defined by being human The Ashpools
and Hideo, for instance, are clones, their DNA unoriginal, replicated like the numbers and symbols
that make up the infinite information networks of the Sprawl. More apparently, Dixie Flatline is
nothing more than a computer program hacked and grifted from a corporation, but he is virtually the
only major character in the book that treats Case like a friend without a motive behind it, aside from
Linda, who is relatively unimportant to the flow of the story after her initial involvement. (Damyanov)
Through this relationship, Dixie gains at least a semblance of humanity, while Case is drawn ever
closer to technology. Dixie himself illuminates the question of human intelligence during a
conversation with Case:
...Me, I m not human either, but I respond like one, see? Wait a sec, Case said. Are you sentient, or
not? Well, it feels like I am, kid, but I m really just a bunch of ROM. It s one of them, ah,
philosophical questions, I guess... The ugly laughter sensation rattled down Case s spine. But I ain t
likely to wite you no poem, if you follow me.

Analysis Of Man In The Mirror
Man in the Mirror was written by Glen Ballard and Siedah Garrett and co produced by Michael
Jackson, and released from the album Bad on August 31,1987 and released as a single January
16,1988 (YouTube). Siedah Garrett had an idea about a man looking in a mirror in her head for quite
some time and took her ideas to her writing partner Glen Ballard. Once Garrett shared her lyric ideas,
Ballard added some soulful vocals to help make the song become more powerful, which helped make
the lyrics even stronger. The straightforward lyrics about making a change to yourself first caught
Michael Jackson s attention for his album Bad he was working on. His chemistry with Garrett was so
strong that he invited her to duet with him on another Bad single (Yahoo! Music). The uplifting lyrics
of making a change to yourself first, with the combination of Michael Jackson s voice took off on the
charts in no time. Even though it wasn t a song he wrote himself, it was a message that was strongly
identified with him and reflective of his own philosophies, as demonstrated through his actions and
expressed in some of his own lyrics (YouTube). Man in the Mirror became a world wide hit in the late
80 s helping to inspire people to make a change within themselves and to help others.
The first line of the song, I m gonna make a change for once in my life (Ballard and Garrett), helps set
the stage for the entire song. The lyrics are very straight forward, speaking about a man seeing the
world around him and how it needs to change. The only way to start to change, is to look at yourself
and start within. I m starting with the man in the mirror... I m asking him to change his ways... and no
message could have been any clearer... if you want to make the world a better place... take a look at
yourself, and then make a change (Garrett and Ballard), is the chorus to the song that refers to a man
knowing the world around him is suffering and by taking the first step will help change not only
himself but can help contribute to his environment. In order to make a difference in the world, you
must start small and start with yourself. The song speaks about is about people suffering and how
cruel our world can be. People only care about

Iran Contra Affair Research Paper
The Iran Contra Affair The Iran Contra affair is one of the largest examples of what occurs when
government communication breaks down. Within this communication breakdown, simple negligence
over details or issues can create scandals that otherwise would not happen. This rocked the nation in
the 1980s and is undoubtedly one of the largest scandals in American history. The Iran Contra affair
consists of two different situations that are linked simply by money. The Contra portion of the Iran
Contra affair began in Nicaragua where the United States continued to be involved in the matters of
other countries. In 1979 the Sandinista socialist group was able to take power over the previous
dictator Somoza Garcia. With this the US became nervous, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Within these hearings, many individuals involved were questioned extensively, in particular, Oliver
North and John Poindexter. Immediately after the Iran Contra affair was leaked, Oliver North and his
secretary worked to destroy as many documents related to the affair as possible. However, North
missed a key document in which he described his entire plan of using funds from arms sales to Iran to
support the Contras. Also after the leak, North was removed from the National Security Council and
sent back to the marines. At his trial, Oliver North wore his green military uniform with his medals.
Within the trial, North admitted to shredding documents and admitted that he was a central figure in
the operation, but said that he also had asked for approval from higher figures. North was eventually
pardoned by George W. Bush. The other main trial involved John Poindexter, the leader of the
National Security Council who resigned when the story was leaked. In his immunized testimony,
Poindexter took full responsibility for the affair and said that all information had ended at his line in
the chain of command, and that nothing had been said to Reagan. Poindexter also said that he believed
diverting funds was legal as it helped the large political goal of aiding the Contras, and that President
Reagan would have supported the operation had he known about it. This lack of attention was a major
flaw during Reagan s

Acid Base Balance Research Paper
Abstract
In this essay I will be discussing four conditions: respiratory acidosis, respiratory alkalosis, metabolic
acidosis and metabolic alkalosis. I will be defining each condition by including the levels of PCO2 or
HCO3 and the pH levels, common causes for each condition, the compensatory mechanism for each
condition, treatment mechanisms for each condition, and how older age may compromise the acid
base balance processes.
Acid Base Balances and Fluids and Electrolytes
This is the most common challenge to acid base balance develops when the respiratory system can t
eliminate all the CO2 generated by the peripheral tissues. CO2 is the single biggest influence on acid
base balance in the body, because it is generated as a metabolic waste product 24/7 by virtually every
body cell. Primary symptom is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main cause of acid base imbalance is production of lactic acid from strenuous activity. Other
organic acids produced through metabolic activities, like the generation of carbon dioxide and its
transport in the blood. A less common cause would be reduced ability to excrete H+ at the kidneys a
drop in bicarbonate ions (HCO3 ) impairs the normal buffering ability of the carbonic acid bicarbonate
system; severe diarrhea can compromise this system, with HCO3 (which would normally be recovered
from the digestive tract. Many digestive secretions have bicarbonate ion in them being lost in the feces
rather than recovered physicians need to look at the causes of the acidosis. In severe cases requiring
treatment, the person receives respiratory assistance, and isotonic IV s with sodium lactate, sodium
gluconate or sodium bicarbonate. These compounds can act as buffers, lowering the pH of the body s
fluids). Respiratory and metabolic acidosis can be linked, as in a near drowning, when PO2 is low,
PCO2 is high, and the struggling person generated a lot of lactic acid in their oxygen starved tissues. (

Auteur Theory Continues to be an Important Part of Filmmaking
The auteur theory is an idea or principle, which states that the film is a reflection of a director s
creative personal vision, as if to say the he or she is the primary author (which in French, means auteur
). This theory first came to be in 1954, by a French film director named Francois Truffaut. The auteur
theory s birth was through the French New Wave, which was a group of new French filmmakers
during the 1950 s and 1960 s. In the beginning, the theory received positive and negative responses.
And to this day, it will create a heated debate. Many have questioned the theory, because there are
usually multiple people involved in the development of a film. Ultimately, a film ... Show more

One was fiction and the other non fiction, but they both was a piece of art displayed by Spike Lee.
When we view these two films from an auteur theory point of view, we are able to capture Spike Lee s
voice. One of the biggest traits you will witness in Spike Lee s films is the ability to zoom in on a
character and talk to the viewer. In Do the Right Thing and Malcolm X, Spike Lee would focus on a
particular character, as if to zone out everyone else within the film. In doing so, he was able to get his
point across because the viewer had no choice but to take in what was being said and the image
remained in the back of our minds. I know for a fact that more than 20 years later, the close up of
those films are still present in mind. This was a unique, personal, and creative vision of Spike Lee.
At the same time, Spike Lee had a way of focusing on specific areas or backgrounds within the film. A
great example is a scene in Do the Right Thing, where Spike Lee, himself was walking down the
sidewalk, delivering a pizza. The point of him delivering the pizza didn t really mean much. What
stood out about the scene is when Spike Lee left the scene and the camera remained. Those seconds of
footage displayed a sidewalk with an image, written by kids with chalk. Another great display of
Spike Lee s vision is how he could change scenes in the middle of conversation. A character could be
talking to someone, turn away from the person, look in the other direction, and what

Tom s Eating Milk Character Analysis
Evolutionary: Tom s ancestors are very large felines. Sometime in history, they evolved to become
smaller. Being a smaller animal meant that they had to comsume less food to survive. Tom is
portrayed as a very slim and lean character. He is able to move and run very quickly, especially when
chasing Jerry.
Behavioral: Tom once had a run in with a large dog named Spike. Spike is easily able to beat up Tom
and from then on, Tom is wary to bother Spike again in fear of another punishment from him.
Sociocultural: While it is true that kittens can drink milk, the ability to tolerate milk reduces in adult
cats. Giving milk to adult cats can cause bloating and make them sick. Later in the series, when it is
clear that Tom has grown to an adult cat, he still continues to drink milk as a result from the common
belief that all cats drink milk and seeing the cats around him also continuing to drink milk. ... Show

information to his advantage and sets a mouse trap with cheese on it outside of Jerry s house. Tom
tries an alternative method in attempting to capture Jerry, rather than just chasing him around like he

According To Marx, Society Is Primarily Divided On Those
According to Marx, society is primarily divided on those who own property, For Marx, he believes
that there are only two primary groups in society and these classes are the bourgeoisies and the
proletariats whose social relationship is the motivational force for change in capitalism. But before
humans can do anything, they must satisfy certain their basic needs, they must feed, clothe and house
themselves though productive labor, as it is the This approach is called by Marx, the Materialist
Conception of History. Because humans produce their own means of life, the only available means
would determine their level of existence, as the productive forces of society consist of the means of
production and labor power, enabling them to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With everything bought and sold at its value, with the capitalists pocketing the surplus value made
from the labor of the proletariats.
Now Marx isn t saying that all components of capitalism are bad, it s just that the capitalist class must
exploit the proletariats to remain on top of the hierarchy. They must continue to exploit to build their
wealth at their best interest, as their class division entails them to continuously do to continue the
wealth bloodline
In this context, Marx realizes that the productive forces in a society develop faster than production
relations, and they may also conflict with each other. Formally breaking down what consisted of the
hierarchy structure that depersonalized many, in which freedom was limited because one s social
class, attempting to break free of the oppression that once was. This conflict was to be resolved by
replacing the old socio economical production relation with a new one. According to Marx, there are
five socio economic formations. They were primitive communal, slave owning, feudal, capitalist and
communist . Marx claims that each class conflict between each production has ultimately reached their
final stage of revolution after transitioning from one socio economic format to another. This
underlined the progressive character changes of the social development scheme. With Marx believing
that the changes made in society would correspond to the mode of production in society by replacing
the exploitative mode of

COMPARE AND CONTRAST OLIVER TWIST
INTRODUCTION
Everyone is aware that books have a richer backstory and more intrigues than a film, and that is
natural due to the length of the book compared to the film. But why does everyone always say that the
book was better than the film, even though, the film is way more focused and fast paced? Is it really
that big of a difference between the book and the film? I will use this compare and contrast essay to
try and explain in which way the Oliver Twist book is both very similar and very different from the
film adaptation of Oliver Twist. I will also try to explain why people generally think that the book is
better than the film.

That is why Brownlow is talking to Nancy in the film unlike in the novel where Rose Maylie is talking
to Nancy on the bridge. It is impossible for Rose to talk to Nancy on the bridge in the film because she

The differences in this scene are a product of the different timelines, once again. This contrast is not
very significant because the outcome is the same for both the film and the novel.
I would like to end up with saying that I thought the novel was better than the film and I will explain
why I think so and why I think others think likewise. It has to do with the fact that the more focused
the content becomes, the less room is left for the significant side facts so to speak. What I am trying to
say is that the film makes no sense over why Fagin wants Oliver back again. But if you have read the
book you know they want him back because Oliver s half brother Monks has payed Fagin to keep
Oliver in a life of crime so Monks can receive all of their parents

If the treaty wasn t written up until after the Black Hills was searched for gold they could have made a
different agreement with the Sioux that would have allowed Americans to mine the gold.
When they found gold it was just a matter of time before things on the Sioux land would become
heated. Miners made their way to the Black Hills, moving further and further into the Sioux s hunting
grounds. Ulysses S. Grant who was president during this time tried to honor the Treaty of Fort
Laramie (PBS n.d.) but the miners demanded government protection from the Native Americans
(Clark n.d.). When Grant gave into the pressure the federal government issued an order requiring all
Indians to move onto reservations by January 31, 1876, otherwise they would be considered hostile
(PBS n.d.).
Many of the Indians didn t hear about the order while others simply ignored it. So Grant decided to
send troops to the Dakota territory to fight the Native Americans. John Gibbon, George Crook, and
Alfred Terry led these troops (PBS n.d.). Custer was not part of the force during this time due to
political issues. The biggest reason Grant avoided using Custer was because he had testified about
corruption in Grant s Indian affairs offices (PBS n.d.). It wasn t long before Grant s friend Philip
Sheridan persuaded Grant to send Custer west.
Although the Sioux were abiding by the treaty, Custer s army was ordered to move

Concept of Attrition: In various industries in various sector have only one impact, loss to the

employees for the progress of their organization growth. Training the skillset according to the needs of
the industry upliftment is additional investment on the employees, further retaining them is another
challenge, managing the employees in the relevant skillset has to be monitored with special care and

understanding the attitude amongst the employees. The thought of discomfort to any employees have
to be personally attended for understanding the depth of their problem. So far software sector faced

case of Insurance companies, where there are benefits of building huge networking, the job pressure is
equally huge. Also, there is humpty number of competitors where poaching is done spasmodically.

The Y2k Catastrophe And Its Effects On Society
The Y2K Catastrophe
In The midst of a rising industrial climate, the 1990s was a time for change and expansion. On
December thirty first, 1999 nearly every developed nation in the world anticipated the oncoming new
millennium. After strike of midnight, January first, 2000 a forecasted event would take place, and
many in the world were anxious to comprehend the supposed inevitable. The occurrence of the Y2K
scare changed the way the world revolves around technology during the time period, which has lasting
residual effects on society.
The fear that drove society and a complete farce was the idea that everything on which the modern
world relied would simply come to a halt at the turn of the century. This contemporary concern of the
time over technology caused an alarming dissonance between people s daily realities and the threat of
an impending apocalyptic future.
At the height of computer development, for convenience purposes, digital programmers used two digit
codes in place of the years. For example, instead of writing 1986, computer engineers simply dated
programs with 86, the 19 was left out purposefully. Engineers compressed data usage to save storage,
which at the time was very costly and took up unnecessary space. Eventually these programmers
realized that once the year 2000 comes around then, the dates would revert to 00 which computers will
assume to be 1900. A simple date change to humans would equal a major blunder to a computer. This
glitch held the

Chapter One
Theorising Identity and The Search for The Self among the sub continental Diaspora in Britain
Identity has always been a problematic area of interrogation epistemologically, existentially and
politically and it continues to propel our thought. Etymologically, the term is derived from Latin word
Idem meaning same (Oxford Online Dictionary) which means specific quality or condition of being a
specific person or an object . A person s identity is determined in terms of his/her inherited traditions,
particularly the inherited religion of the community in which they happen to be born, the place and

The concept of Identity has been defined and studied in different fields of studies ranging from
Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology and Cultural Studies.
Recent trends in Psychology on Identity Theory: In the recent past identity is seen as a self narrative
which is held as the base for the construct of a person s identity. The behaviour in salience to the
social setting is the base of identity formation. The Identity Theory (Stryker 1968, 1980, 1989; Stryker
and Serpe 1982, Mc Calls and Simmons 1978, R.H. Turner 1978) explains social behaviour in terms
of the reciprocal relationship between the self and the society . The term is used to define the links
between a multifaceted notion of the self and wider social structure. (Burke 1980; Mc Call and
Simmons 1978; R.H. Turner 1978). It is an extension of the symbolic interactionist theory postulated
by Mead (1934) and Blumer (1969) that society influences social behaviour through its affects on the
self (Micheal A Hogg, et al.). However, the Identity theory rejects the symbolic interactionist theory as
relatively undifferentiated, co operative whole (Stryker 1980, 1987; Stryker and Serpe 1982) and
argues that society is complexly differentiated, but nevertheless organized (Stryker and Serpe
1982:206) and thus predicated the idea of the

Using Natural Gas and Liquid Natural Gas
Introduction
For decades the United States of America has been relying on fossil fuels to power its economy and to
function as a country. One namely Diesel fuel has power big rigs that our country depends on to
transport merchandise and goods. It seems like it is part of the American way of life burning more
than 1 billion dollars worth of oil per day. An estimated 10 percent of that is consumed by big rig
trucks. The United States military also used diesel for a majority of its craft and vehicles. That is a
large amount of oil and that is why there is research being done looking for alternative options to keep
the country going. The topics at hand are natural gas and liquid natural gas.
Details and science of natural gas
It goes without saying that there are many skeptics that argue liquid natural gas deposits create just as
much emissions as coal and oil. The main thing in natural gas is methane which is much more potent
than carbon dioxide. Natural gas comes from dense rock clusters known as shale. Energy drilling is
really quite simple. It starts out with deposits of natural gas found deep in the ground. Scientists find
these deposits using various methods like looking for seismic energy and magnetic traces. Once a
probable deposited is found the drilling or energy company drills deep into the earth s crust to reach it.
The next part is hard because after the hole is drilled the gas will not simply flow out of the hole. The
natural gas is in the shale

George Bush Speech On Homeland Security
George Bush vs Obama on Homeland Security George bush and Obama have very differing opinions
on homeland security and terrorism from their different experiences during presidency. George Bush
was president of the United States when the world trade centers were the target of a terror attack. 9/11
was the day that changed our country forever. During his presidency he also had to deal with the war
in Iraq from the beginning. Unlike Bush, Obama does not agree in war and insisted on taking our
soldiers out of Iraq and back home. Although we weren t involved as much in the war we did kill
Osama bin Laden while Obama has been in office. Both Bush and Obama come from very different
backgrounds and served as presidents at different time periods, so obviously have very different
opinions on how to run the country and especially on homeland security. I am using Bush s remarks in
address to the nation at the Cross Hall for his speech. For Obamas speech, I will be using a speech
from the 2012 State of Union Address. The two speeches should help give you an idea on how times
have changed and the problems we faced then apposed to now, the mindset of the present, and how
each president reacts to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

his speech is this, In protecting our country, we depend on the skill of our people the troops we send to
battle, intelligence operatives who risk their lives for bits of information, law enforcement officers
who sift for clues and search for suspects . In conclusion, I believe that all of Bush s efforts to end or
lower terror after 9/11 were as well put together as they could be at the time of the

Type A Behavior Analysis
In the textbook the authors talk about the fact that differences in an individual s personality can be
partially attributed to genetics and also that these differences in emotions and behavior can often be
noticed in early childhood, through a pathway called temperament (Cervone Pervin, 2013). There are
two characteristics of temperament however, that have been researched and studied the most, and
those two characteristics are inhibited behavior and fear reactions. As may be obvious, as is in fact
obvious in my family, people react differently in their emotions and behavior to new situations such as
moving out of a parent s house or being around groups of people they don t know, and these
differences in reaction can be attributed to genes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Among neurotic non smokers however a family history of coronary heart disease was hypothesized to
be related to a neurotic s more withdrawn personality type (Eysenck Fulker, 1983). The study has
proposed that of all the factors on the EPQ test (neuroticism, extraversion, psychoticism and
conformity) extraversion and neuroticism play the biggest role in the construction of a Type A
personality, and thus propose a genetic relation between personality and coronary heart disease that
can be altered by smoking habits. This study goes to show that Type A behavior is not clearly defined,
as can be seen in the differences between extraversion and neuroticism. It is also clear that Type A
behavior can be further magnified within the four factors (Tenseness, ambition, activity and
unrepressed) within the categories neuroticism and

Antarctica Is The Third Largest Continent On The World Map
Antarctica is the fifth largest Continent on the world map which covers close to 14.2 million square
kilometres of land space that includes the ice sheets which unfolds onto the sea (Martin, 2013).
Antarctica once used to be part of Gondwana supercontinent until it fragmented itself 70 million years
ago and moved to the South Pole making it isolated from other land areas (Martin, 2013). Antarctica
was once ice free, had temperatures well above freezing point and was also filled with greeneries forty
million years ago during the early Oligocene period (Florindo Siegert, 2008). In the latter half of the
Oligocene towards the Miocene period, temperature in Antarctica started to descend. Factors such as
the height of Antarctica, which is 2800 metres above sea level, the Atmosphere in the Southern
Hemisphere being much thinner with minimal cloud cover that leads to high albedo and the ocean
currant movement around Antarctica has made Antarctica as cold as minus sixty Degrees Celsius for
humans to inhibit living here (Harwood et al., 2006). Scientists have been able to track back on the
climate conditions in Antarctica over the past thirteen million years with the aid of collecting rocks,
soil, animal and plant fossils buried deep down into the ground beyond the thick ice formation that
covers the Antarctic region currently. Scientists concluded that in order to get the geological evidence,
land had to be excavated vertically down towards the earth core (Naish, Powell, Levy,

The Importance Of Chemical Communication
Chemical communication is the detection and recognition of chemical signals released by other
organisms. The chemicals that are released are known as info chemicals and can be directed towards
organisms of the same or different species. Info chemicals can be detected by more than one species
and the detection of info chemicals is through olfactory and gustatory organs. The utilization of
chemical communication is vital to the survival of aquatic organisms due to the nature of the medium
which they are surrounded by; water. Over the past century, the rise in large scale industrial activity
such as mining and metal processing has lead to an explosion in human productivity. However, the
repercussion of this expansion is the disruption of global habitats, resulting in the contamination of
freshwater environments by heavy metal pollutants. The level of pollution by heavy metals is further
escalated by factors such as acid rain which increase the erosion rate of metals thus leading to the
introduction of more heavy metal pollutants (Tchouwou et al. 2012). Heavy metals are classified as
metals that are significantly denser than water. Within this group of heavy metals, arsenic, cadmium,
chromium, lead, and mercury are among the most critical for their toxicity to a wide variety of
organisms at low concentrations. However heavy metals such as copper which are widely used in
technological appliances can also affect aquatic organisms. Furthermore, there are numerous studies
evidencing

Oroonoko Rhetorical Analysis
Oroonoko: The Savior and Dismemberment The long narrative of Oroonoko is that of an Africa Prince
and his beloved. Both of them were sold into slavery by the British and are brought to Surinam.
Imoinda was sold into slavery first by Oroonoko s grandfather. Oroonoko was tricked by a royal guest
and then sold to Trefry. This owner befriended Oroonoko and it shows compassion, purity, and
persuasiveness on both Oroonoko s part and on Trefry s. This is where Oroonoko has his name
changed to Caesar as was custom with slaves. It is a practice that further removes them from their
homeland and severs any ties to their identity with their families. He then becomes, who many
believe, a hero as he leads a slave revolt that ends with his horrible execution. ... Show more content

Surely throughout his own torture, Jesus Christ also endured his own breaking point. Nonetheless,
they both held strong for a time to get their point across. According to Merriam Webster, a martyr is a
person who is killed or who suffers greatly for a religion, cause, etc., (Merriam Webster). In the end, a
martyr is what becomes of both Jesus Christ and Oroonoko. However, many members of the societies
in each timeline did not see the importance of the death. After the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, the Jews
were still under the rule of the Roman Government. Likewise, the slaves were not saved the
dismemberment of Oroonoko. The story of Jesus, however, did eventually change the course of
history for many. For the legacy of Oroonoko, so to speak, slavery did end at one point. So, in a

Analysis Of Do The Right Thing
There are many films in this world that tackle the topic of race. It is an unfortunate truth that leads to
many options when choosing a film to show to the students of Coe College. With a large majority of
the students at Coe being white, choosing a film that addresses the themes of racism in the 20th
century is something that can be a sensitive subject. It is the reason that a film that addresses tension
among different race on a block in Bed Sty is the most appropriate for the audience at Coe College.
The film Do The Right Thing, directed by Spike Lee, challenges the characters in the film, along with
the audience viewing the film to form opinions on sensitive subjects and to do the right thing in a
difficult situation.Spike Lee uses the film, Do The Right Thing, to address racial tension in the 20th
century through his use of color, camera framing and narrative. One of the most striking scenes begins
in the first forty minutes of the film. The scene starts off with the music becoming slow and haunting,
a difference from the high beat music that was playing before, while a police car slowly drives down
the street in the neighborhood of mostly people of color. The camera then cuts to the three black men
who sit on the corner, Sweet Dick Willie, Coconut Sid, and ML. The camera pans across the three
faces, all showing critical glares at the police car. The policeman in the passenger seat is then shown,
displaying a similar glare to the black men. The tension can be felt in

Symptoms: Increased shortness of breath, cough, dyspnea, tachypnea
Medication: Acyclovir
Clinical Procedure: Chest X Ray
Specialty:
Objective: Uncommon Disease
Background: Varicella Pneumonia remains to this day an uncommon and rare complication among
both adults and children. (1) Yet, ironically, it accounts for the majority and mortality among adults
diagnosed with Varicella. In general, Varicella Pneumonia tends to appear once in 400 cases of
patients with Varicella (2) and has the mortality rate of 10 30% and can increase to 50% to patients
with respiratory failure. Patients usually complain of severe hypoxemia and increased shortness of
breath. Generally, the illness is treated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On examination, the patient exemplified diminished breathing sounds along with mild scattered
cracks.Diagnosis of Varicella pneumonia was made on the basis of the rash, pulmonary symptoms,
and the contact with a patient with chickenpox. Additionally, chest x ray (16.3%) showed interstitial
and/or nodular infiltrates which indicates the presence of pneumonia. Varicella Pneumonia is known
to occur in approximately 1/400 cases with adults with chickenpox. Likewise, the risk factors of
Varicella Pneumonia is smoking which provides substantial evidence in order to form the diagnosis.
The patient had then undergone seven days of intravenous acyclovir associated with Varicella. The
treatment was successful which might hint that if the patient were to be given early RX, then it may
modify the natural course of this complication.
Conclusions: In retrospect, Varicella Pneumonia still remains to be a dangerous complication that still
kills thousands, however, if accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment were to be made, then
patients would have a greater chance to overcome the illness. Yet, survival still depends on the
recognized risk factors.

A Comparison Of Malcom X And Malcolm X
Malcolm X, over the years, was an interesting man, in the terms of his beliefs during the civil rights
movements. He believed that black Americans should take matters into their own hands. He changed
his views within the first few months of 1964 when he went to Mecca for a pilgrimage. But unlike
Malcolm X, Martin Luther was a Baptist like his father and believed that desegregation can occur by a
non violent protest and marches during the civil rights movements. Not only did he believed that he
also believed that with the combined efforts of blacks and whites desegregation is possible. Within
their speeches or written ones, they are similar in context and techniques as well. The contexts of
Letter to Mecca, by Malcolm X and a speech by Martin Luther, I have a Dream, are similar and
different to what they talk about of the solutions and the overall issue. As for techniques, they used the
same and even different one from one another. First of all, both of them talked about a similar topic
within their speech and letter. The topic is about trying to reach racial equality. In Malcolm X s Letter
to Mecca, he wrote that his experience of living and visiting Mecca. He was utterly speechless and
spellbound by the generous (X 1) that happened to occur around him by people of color (X 1). Before
he went to Mecca and experienced all of the kind nature of people of color, he had never imagined of

Analysis Of Stereotypes In The Sound Of Music
The sound of stereotypes An Analysis of Gender and Religious Stereotypes The Sound of Music is set
in Austria based in a time of the Nazi s rise to power and the simultaneous fall of the place of the
woman in society. This film tells the story of not just any woman, but a nun, a double threat in the
eyes of American cinema. Maria leaves the nunnery to become a nanny for the wealthy Von Trapp
family of 7, however her religious ideals and attempt at caring for the children is barricaded by both
the dominant Mr. Von Trapp and the heightening political pressure surrounding Mr. Von Trapp as an
officer in the army. This film presents Maria as a stereotypical desirable woman who innocently and
unknowingly causes Mr. Von Trapp to fall in love with her. The various love triangles throughout the
movie reveal the flaws in the portrayal of Maria and the real life happenings of the Nazi era. Maria is

Maria s actions help break the stereotype of women in film and cultural stereotypes that create bias

women who are strict in their ways and seldom voice out opinions, but rather silently protest and pray
away problems. Maria leaves the nunnery for a different lifestyle she breaks the stereotype and is able
to stand up for her self, and forces the Captain to be warmer to his children. Maria becomes a symbol
of a strong woman who has broken the traditional reliance of a man; instead Maria takes it upon
herself to aid the family into safety from Nazi takeover. Maria s individual transformation exemplifies
changes in individual identities and moral accountability which may change interactional expectations

Essay Comparing The Red Badge Of Courage And The Locket
The novels The Red Badge of Courage and The Locket are a very significant piece of readings. The
books tell a historic event by giving highly descriptive details and activities that would put you in a
place of where it is being held. The two readings have numerous of similarities of settings and themes.
Throughout the readings, they use symbolism to help convey the meaning of the text. However, they
do have some differences which make these two storybooks great, understanding, and easy to
distinguish.
There are varieties of similarities of setting in the novels. First, they both begin in an unknown battle
in the Civil War during the 1860s. But then the concept of nature is being used second to describe the
settings that were taking place. The Red Badge of Courage setting in nature is peaceful, but later on
the setting turns into a disturbing way of the earth. The Locke s setting characterizes nature in the
beginning of the men gathered around during the war and the second setting is how the characters are
traveling through the beautiful season of spring. In this image, it gets the readers attention and
understanding to get the warmth and feelings of the outside without physically being there.

Celsius Vs. Fahrenheit

United States, I asked what are the advantages of using the Fahrenheit scale for measuring
temperature.
In his article, Fahrenheit vs. Celsius: Did the U.S. Get It Right After All? , Daniel Faris, does point out
that Celsius seems to make sense to use for its easy points of reference for freezing water in Celsius, 0

Comparing The Lottery And One Friday Morning

There are two stories that are used in the 1940s unit: The Lottery and One Friday Morning . Though
One Friday Morning by Langston Hughes has great symbolism, The Lottery by Shirley Jackson is the
best short story to keep in the 1940s unit, because there is a lot of imagery, the mood is very clear, and
the suspense hooks the reader.
The first reason why The Lottery is the best short story to keep in the 1940s unit is because it has a
very clear mood. In particular, The Lottery by Shirley Jackson has a very clear mood, because of this

For example, the text says, Mr. Summers was very good at all this; in his clean white shirt and blue

very proper guy in simple but nice clothing with his hand resting on the black box talking with other
people from the village. The reader gets sense of what is happening without having to dig too deep.
Also, the story says, The children had stones already. And someone gave little Davy Hutchinson few

  • 2. Arguments against the Use of School Uniforms Uniforms School uniforms in England were first introduced during the occupation of King Henry VII. England is mostly known for their school uniforms even though British people are not very interested, in fact they spend less money on clothes than the people of many European countries. Although, the school uniforms are part of the British image, many individuals oppose the use of school uniforms. The British is mostly known for their clothes, more specifically the school uniforms, it is one of their dress code. Britain has influenced many countries to make school uniforms compulsory. Many continents like Africa and Asia were forced while they were being colonized by Britain to make school uniforms compulsory. Both the public and private schools are required to have its won colures, styles and the dress code most not be neglected. When students are shown or exposed to the positive sides of having school uniforms, they become more responsible students but do school uniforms contravenes the student rights to self expression. The most typical arguments against school uniforms are that students are not allowed to choose what they want to wear. The students are limited, and there is no other way for self expression. The only way for modern students to become unique and different from each other, is by having different clothes and not school uniforms. Unfortunately, school uniforms make everybody look almost the same. Many parents even complain about the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Shaping Identity in William Gibson s Neuromancer Essay Shaping Identity in William Gibson s Neuromancer The number one is not a thing. Math has no definitive reality. Numbers are a social construct, a system of symbols designed to express the abstractions through which properly developed societies explain aspects of reality. It follows that, as humanity seeks to understand more of what it is to exist, bigger numbers are needed. Soon, we need machines to understand the numbers. Society plants a base on information technology, efficiency, and a mechanical precision that is startling. What is desirable in a product is distilled to a formulaic essence and packaged neatly. Humans, too, are boiled down to science. Glossy shots, red lipstick, concrete biceps, and an ever decreasing waistline ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Gibson s cyberpunk world, technology and humanity simultaneously clash and meld, creating a society in which humans scramble to interact with technology, using it to gain footholds or augment their actual physical bodies. Humanity, in a sense, ceases to be defined by being human The Ashpools and Hideo, for instance, are clones, their DNA unoriginal, replicated like the numbers and symbols that make up the infinite information networks of the Sprawl. More apparently, Dixie Flatline is nothing more than a computer program hacked and grifted from a corporation, but he is virtually the only major character in the book that treats Case like a friend without a motive behind it, aside from Linda, who is relatively unimportant to the flow of the story after her initial involvement. (Damyanov) Through this relationship, Dixie gains at least a semblance of humanity, while Case is drawn ever closer to technology. Dixie himself illuminates the question of human intelligence during a conversation with Case: ...Me, I m not human either, but I respond like one, see? Wait a sec, Case said. Are you sentient, or not? Well, it feels like I am, kid, but I m really just a bunch of ROM. It s one of them, ah, philosophical questions, I guess... The ugly laughter sensation rattled down Case s spine. But I ain t likely to wite you no poem, if you follow me. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of Man In The Mirror Man in the Mirror was written by Glen Ballard and Siedah Garrett and co produced by Michael Jackson, and released from the album Bad on August 31,1987 and released as a single January 16,1988 (YouTube). Siedah Garrett had an idea about a man looking in a mirror in her head for quite some time and took her ideas to her writing partner Glen Ballard. Once Garrett shared her lyric ideas, Ballard added some soulful vocals to help make the song become more powerful, which helped make the lyrics even stronger. The straightforward lyrics about making a change to yourself first caught Michael Jackson s attention for his album Bad he was working on. His chemistry with Garrett was so strong that he invited her to duet with him on another Bad single (Yahoo! Music). The uplifting lyrics of making a change to yourself first, with the combination of Michael Jackson s voice took off on the charts in no time. Even though it wasn t a song he wrote himself, it was a message that was strongly identified with him and reflective of his own philosophies, as demonstrated through his actions and expressed in some of his own lyrics (YouTube). Man in the Mirror became a world wide hit in the late 80 s helping to inspire people to make a change within themselves and to help others. The first line of the song, I m gonna make a change for once in my life (Ballard and Garrett), helps set the stage for the entire song. The lyrics are very straight forward, speaking about a man seeing the world around him and how it needs to change. The only way to start to change, is to look at yourself and start within. I m starting with the man in the mirror... I m asking him to change his ways... and no message could have been any clearer... if you want to make the world a better place... take a look at yourself, and then make a change (Garrett and Ballard), is the chorus to the song that refers to a man knowing the world around him is suffering and by taking the first step will help change not only himself but can help contribute to his environment. In order to make a difference in the world, you must start small and start with yourself. The song speaks about is about people suffering and how cruel our world can be. People only care about ... • 5. Iran Contra Affair Research Paper The Iran Contra Affair The Iran Contra affair is one of the largest examples of what occurs when government communication breaks down. Within this communication breakdown, simple negligence over details or issues can create scandals that otherwise would not happen. This rocked the nation in the 1980s and is undoubtedly one of the largest scandals in American history. The Iran Contra affair consists of two different situations that are linked simply by money. The Contra portion of the Iran Contra affair began in Nicaragua where the United States continued to be involved in the matters of other countries. In 1979 the Sandinista socialist group was able to take power over the previous dictator Somoza Garcia. With this the US became nervous, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Within these hearings, many individuals involved were questioned extensively, in particular, Oliver North and John Poindexter. Immediately after the Iran Contra affair was leaked, Oliver North and his secretary worked to destroy as many documents related to the affair as possible. However, North missed a key document in which he described his entire plan of using funds from arms sales to Iran to support the Contras. Also after the leak, North was removed from the National Security Council and sent back to the marines. At his trial, Oliver North wore his green military uniform with his medals. Within the trial, North admitted to shredding documents and admitted that he was a central figure in the operation, but said that he also had asked for approval from higher figures. North was eventually pardoned by George W. Bush. The other main trial involved John Poindexter, the leader of the National Security Council who resigned when the story was leaked. In his immunized testimony, Poindexter took full responsibility for the affair and said that all information had ended at his line in the chain of command, and that nothing had been said to Reagan. Poindexter also said that he believed diverting funds was legal as it helped the large political goal of aiding the Contras, and that President Reagan would have supported the operation had he known about it. • 6. Acid Base Balance Research Paper Abstract In this essay I will be discussing four conditions: respiratory acidosis, respiratory alkalosis, metabolic acidosis and metabolic alkalosis. I will be defining each condition by including the levels of PCO2 or HCO3 and the pH levels, common causes for each condition, the compensatory mechanism for each condition, treatment mechanisms for each condition, and how older age may compromise the acid base balance processes. Acid Base Balances and Fluids and Electrolytes This is the most common challenge to acid base balance develops when the respiratory system can t eliminate all the CO2 generated by the peripheral tissues. CO2 is the single biggest influence on acid base balance in the body, because it is generated as a metabolic waste product 24/7 by virtually every body cell. Primary symptom is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main cause of acid base imbalance is production of lactic acid from strenuous activity. Other organic acids produced through metabolic activities, like the generation of carbon dioxide and its transport in the blood. A less common cause would be reduced ability to excrete H+ at the kidneys a drop in bicarbonate ions (HCO3 ) impairs the normal buffering ability of the carbonic acid bicarbonate system; severe diarrhea can compromise this system, with HCO3 (which would normally be recovered from the digestive tract. Many digestive secretions have bicarbonate ion in them being lost in the feces rather than recovered physicians need to look at the causes of the acidosis. In severe cases requiring treatment, the person receives respiratory assistance, and isotonic IV s with sodium lactate, sodium gluconate or sodium bicarbonate. These compounds can act as buffers, lowering the pH of the body s fluids). Auteur Theory Continues to be an Important Part of Filmmaking The auteur theory is an idea or principle, which states that the film is a reflection of a director s creative personal vision, as if to say the he or she is the primary author (which in French, means auteur ). This theory first came to be in 1954, by a French film director named Francois Truffaut. The auteur theory s birth was through the French New Wave, which was a group of new French filmmakers during the 1950 s and 1960 s. In the beginning, the theory received positive and negative responses. And to this day, it will create a heated debate. Many have questioned the theory, because there are usually multiple people involved in the development of a film. Ultimately, a film ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One was fiction and the other non fiction, but they both was a piece of art displayed by Spike Lee. When we view these two films from an auteur theory point of view, we are able to capture Spike Lee s voice. One of the biggest traits you will witness in Spike Lee s films is the ability to zoom in on a character and talk to the viewer. In Do the Right Thing and Malcolm X, Spike Lee would focus on a particular character, as if to zone out everyone else within the film. In doing so, he was able to get his point across because the viewer had no choice but to take in what was being said and the image remained in the back of our minds. I know for a fact that more than 20 years later, the close up of those films are still present in mind. This was a unique, personal, and creative vision of Spike Lee. At the same time, Spike Lee had a way of focusing on specific areas or backgrounds within the film. A great example is a scene in Do the Right Thing, where Spike Lee, himself was walking down the sidewalk, delivering a pizza. The point of him delivering the pizza didn t really mean much. What stood out about the scene is when Spike Lee left the scene and the camera remained. Those seconds of footage displayed a sidewalk with an image, written by kids with chalk. Another great display of Spike Lee s vision is how he could change scenes in the middle of conversation. A character could be talking to someone, turn away from the person, look in the other direction, and what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Tom s Eating Milk Character Analysis Evolutionary: Tom s ancestors are very large felines. Sometime in history, they evolved to become smaller. Being a smaller animal meant that they had to comsume less food to survive. Tom is portrayed as a very slim and lean character. He is able to move and run very quickly, especially when chasing Jerry. Behavioral: Tom once had a run in with a large dog named Spike. Spike is easily able to beat up Tom and from then on, Tom is wary to bother Spike again in fear of another punishment from him. Sociocultural: While it is true that kittens can drink milk, the ability to tolerate milk reduces in adult cats. Giving milk to adult cats can cause bloating and make them sick. Later in the series, when it is clear that Tom has grown to an adult cat, he still continues to drink milk as a result from the common belief that all cats drink milk and seeing the cats around him also continuing to drink milk. ... But before humans can do anything, they must satisfy certain their basic needs, they must feed, clothe and house themselves though productive labor, as it is the This approach is called by Marx, the Materialist Conception of History. They must continue to exploit to build their wealth at their best interest, as their class division entails them to continuously do to continue the wealth bloodline In this context, Marx realizes that the productive forces in a society develop faster than production relations, and they may also conflict with each other. This conflict was to be resolved by replacing the old socio economical production relation with a new one. According to Marx, there are five socio economic formations. They were primitive communal, slave owning, feudal, capitalist and communist . Marx claims that each class conflict between each production has ultimately reached their final stage of revolution after transitioning from one socio economic format to another. This underlined the progressive character changes of the social development scheme. COMPARE AND CONTRAST OLIVER TWIST INTRODUCTION Everyone is aware that books have a richer backstory and more intrigues than a film, and that is natural due to the length of the book compared to the film. But why does everyone always say that the book was better than the film, even though, the film is way more focused and fast paced? Is it really that big of a difference between the book and the film? I will use this compare and contrast essay to try and explain in which way the Oliver Twist book is both very similar and very different from the film adaptation of Oliver Twist. I will also try to explain why people generally think that the book is better than the film. It is impossible for Rose to talk to Nancy on the bridge in the film because she was never introduced. The differences in this scene are a product of the different timelines, once again. This contrast is not very significant because the outcome is the same for both the film and the novel. I would like to end up with saying that I thought the novel was better than the film and I will explain why I think so and why I think others think likewise. It has to do with the fact that the more focused the content becomes, the less room is left for the significant side facts so to speak. What I am trying to say is that the film makes no sense over why Fagin wants Oliver back again. Miners made their way to the Black Hills, moving further and further into the Sioux s hunting grounds. Ulysses S. Grant who was president during this time tried to honor the Treaty of Fort Laramie (PBS n.d.) but the miners demanded government protection from the Native Americans (Clark n.d.). When Grant gave into the pressure the federal government issued an order requiring all Indians to move onto reservations by January 31, 1876, otherwise they would be considered hostile (PBS n.d.). Many of the Indians didn t hear about the order while others simply ignored it. So Grant decided to send troops to the Dakota territory to fight the Native Americans. The occurrence of the Y2K scare changed the way the world revolves around technology during the time period, which has lasting residual effects on society. The fear that drove society and a complete farce was the idea that everything on which the modern world relied would simply come to a halt at the turn of the century. This contemporary concern of the time over technology caused an alarming dissonance between people s daily realities and the threat of an impending apocalyptic future. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The concept of Identity has been defined and studied in different fields of studies ranging from Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology and Cultural Studies. Recent trends in Psychology on Identity Theory: In the recent past identity is seen as a self narrative which is held as the base for the construct of a person s identity. The behaviour in salience to the social setting is the base of identity formation. The Identity Theory (Stryker 1968, 1980, 1989; Stryker and Serpe 1982, Mc Calls and Simmons 1978, R.H. Turner 1978) explains social behaviour in terms of the reciprocal relationship between the self and the society . The term is used to define the links between a multifaceted notion of the self and wider social structure. (Burke 1980; Mc Call and Simmons 1978; R.H. Turner 1978). It is an extension of the symbolic interactionist theory postulated by Mead (1934) and Blumer (1969) that society influences social behaviour through its affects on the self (Micheal A Hogg, et al.). However, the Identity theory rejects the symbolic interactionist theory as relatively undifferentiated, co operative whole (Stryker 1980, 1987; Stryker and Serpe 1982) and argues that society is complexly differentiated, but nevertheless organized (Stryker and Serpe 1982:206) and thus predicated the idea of the ... One namely Diesel fuel has power big rigs that our country depends on to transport merchandise and goods. It seems like it is part of the American way of life burning more than 1 billion dollars worth of oil per day. An estimated 10 percent of that is consumed by big rig trucks. The United States military also used diesel for a majority of its craft and vehicles. That is a large amount of oil and that is why there is research being done looking for alternative options to keep the country going. The topics at hand are natural gas and liquid natural gas. Details and science of natural gas It goes without saying that there are many skeptics that argue liquid natural gas deposits create just as much emissions as coal and oil. The main thing in natural gas is methane which is much more potent than carbon dioxide. Natural gas comes from dense rock clusters known as shale. Energy drilling is really quite simple. It starts out with deposits of natural gas found deep in the ground. Scientists find these deposits using various methods like looking for seismic energy and magnetic traces. Once a probable deposited is found the drilling or energy company drills deep into the earth s crust to reach it. The next part is hard because after the hole is drilled the gas will not simply flow out of the hole. The natural gas is in the shale ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Antarctica once used to be part of Gondwana supercontinent until it fragmented itself 70 million years ago and moved to the South Pole making it isolated from other land areas (Martin, 2013). Antarctica was once ice free, had temperatures well above freezing point and was also filled with greeneries forty million years ago during the early Oligocene period (Florindo Siegert, 2008). In the latter half of the Oligocene towards the Miocene period, temperature in Antarctica started to descend. Factors such as the height of Antarctica, which is 2800 metres above sea level, the Atmosphere in the Southern Hemisphere being much thinner with minimal cloud cover that leads to high albedo and the ocean currant movement around Antarctica has made Antarctica as cold as minus sixty Degrees Celsius for humans to inhibit living here (Harwood et al., 2006). The chemicals that are released are known as info chemicals and can be directed towards organisms of the same or different species. The utilization of chemical communication is vital to the survival of aquatic organisms due to the nature of the medium which they are surrounded by; water. However, the repercussion of this expansion is the disruption of global habitats, resulting in the contamination of freshwater environments by heavy metal pollutants. The level of pollution by heavy metals is further escalated by factors such as acid rain which increase the erosion rate of metals thus leading to the introduction of more heavy metal pollutants (Tchouwou et al. 2012). Heavy metals are classified as metals that are significantly denser than water.
