Writing Definition Essay
Writing an essay on the topic of "Writing Definition Essay" may sound paradoxical at first
glance. It's like trying to define the act of defining itself. The challenge lies in the recursive
nature of the task, as you find yourself caught in a loop of defining the process of defining. This
recursive complexity can make the writing process a labyrinth of introspection and abstraction.
To begin, you grapple with the need to precisely articulate the essence of what constitutes a
definition essay. The irony is palpable as you navigate through the nuances of defining, trying to
encapsulate the very essence of clarity within the often intricate web of words. One must tread
carefully, avoiding circular definitions or falling into the trap of creating an essay that merely
describes the act of defining without actually providing meaningful definitions.
Crafting a coherent structure becomes an added challenge. Should the essay follow a linear
progression, mirroring the step-by-step process of defining, or should it take a more abstract
approach, reflecting the inherent subjectivity in the act of defining itself? Striking the right
balance becomes crucial, lest the essay itself becomes a convoluted jumble of words lacking the
clarity it seeks to explore.
Moreover, the very act of defining implies setting boundaries, yet the boundaries of a definition
essay on writing definition essays may seem elusive. The challenge intensifies when you grapple
with the dynamic and evolving nature of language – a medium through which definitions are
conveyed. What may be a steadfast definition today might undergo a metamorphosis tomorrow,
leaving the essay vulnerable to the flux of linguistic evolution.
In conclusion, writing an essay on "Writing Definition Essay" entails a paradoxical dance with
language, a meticulous untangling of words to encapsulate the essence of definition. It's a
journey through the labyrinth of linguistic intricacies and self-reflection, where the very act of
defining is defined. The difficulty lies not just in expressing the concept but in doing so without
succumbing to the recursive pitfalls that lurk within the topic.

Ultrasound History
It first started as a tub full of water, and now Ultrasounds are machines smaller in
size, easily portable, and even used in ambulances. The most widely known use of
Ultrasounds is for pregnant women, as a way of monitoring the fetus. These
machines are also used for imaging the inside of a person s body, and acts as a
guide while doctors perform surgery. Doctors are now able to assist a patient
better, make a diagnosis quicker and know if further medical attention is required.
Time was once deadly in the medical field, once upon a time doctors were not able
to know for sure if a patient had problems internally, and once the problem became
known, it was sometimes too late to save a life. Over time, this piece of technology

In Placenta Previa, Ronan Bakker an Obstetrician and Gynecologist defines this as,
an obstetric complication that classically presents as painless vaginal bleeding in
the third trimester secondary to an abnormal placentation near or covering the
internal cervical os . Historically there has been two types; complete previa which
covers the whole cervix, and marginal previa that only covers part of the cervix.
Since there was no way to know if it was present in some women, they would often
bleed to death. Through the use of the Diasonograph in 1968, Donald was able to
find the accurate location of the placenta, giving doctors an opportunity to diagnose
it sooner, thus saving the lives of many women and children. By the mid 70 s the
machines became less expensive, smaller and easier to move. Getting an ultrasound
of a fetus was once time consuming; if the fetus moved they would have to start the
whole process over, but now movements of the fetus could be followed. Since the
machines were becoming more available, departments owned more instead of one big
static scanner, giving the staff an opportunity to
Summary Of Slavery By Linda Brent
Slavery granted more rights and freedoms to white Americans being considered
powerful masters who could do everything they wanted not caring about human
rights and basic principles of ethics. Since the author presents the female
perspective on slavery and racism in the present book, the analysis of female
characters and related female suffering due to sexual oppression and exploitation
plays an important role in it. Linda Brent, the author herself, is the major female
character in the book presenting many instances from her life and showing the life of
slaves in detail. From the early childhood, Linda had no bad thoughts about the
surrounding environment and did not know the truth about her fate as a slave, as she
was born a slave and no other
Effects Of Extracurricular Activities Essay
Extracurricular activities refer to activities that provide opportunities for students to
develop specific skills or knowledge, and take place outside of school hours.
Extracurricular activities offer experiences of teamwork and support the development
of many social, cognitive, and physical skills of the students. By joining
extracurricular activities, the students learn to manage their time, relieve stress and
learn to strive for excellence in more than one thing.
Extracurricular activities are found in all levels of our schools in many different
forms. They can be sports, clubs, debate, theatre, school publications, students
newspaper, music, art, dance, scout, and other social events. Extracurricular are

The positive effects that extracurricular activities have on students are behavior, better
grades, school completion, positive aspects to become successful adults, and a social
aspect (Massoni, 2011). Students that actively participate in extracurricular activities
have reduced behavior problems. The students who participate in extracurricular will
show good self discipline. They also have responsibility to perform the task correctly.
When students perform these things correctly, they are rewarded for their good
behavior and they take pride in their accomplishments. Because of the pride they
achieve, they gain better self respect, self esteem, and self confidence.
The other effect of extracurricular activities for students is the social aspect. Students
that are involved in extracurricular activities meet many new people. By joining
extracurricular activities, the students will meet people that they share interests with.
In extracurricular activities, students also learn about group work, and sometimes
they end up having less conformity to gender
Analysis Of Paul Cezanne s Mont Sainte Victoire
One of the most influential painters of the twentieth century was Paul Cezanne. He
was willing to break the traditionally accepted artistic practice in order to better
portray his artistic creativity. Cezanne was became part of the movement that
followed the Impressionists called the Post Impressionism movement. The artists who
were the driving forces behind this movement were Gauguin, Van Gogh, Seurat, and
Cezanne. These artists were placed in this grouping because they were the avant
garde artists of the time period, who wanted to be able to express their emotions
rather than simply representing what they saw. Cezanne s Mont Sainte Victoire seen
from The Bibemus Quarry was painted in 1985. Mont Sainte Victoire is a mountain
that is in the South of France and overlooks the Aix en Provence, which happens to be
the hometown of Paul Cezanne. This work exemplifies the Post Impressionistic
techniques because Cezanne utilized the avant garde techniques, while at the same
time demonstrating the relationship between the artist and the work. This work
embodies the period style because it contains avant garde geometric shapes to define
the forms, colors, and interpretations that were important to the Post Impressionists.
First off, the harshness of the lines goes hand in hand with the shapes that exist in the
work. The shapes tend to be simplified shapes, which demonstrates that Cezanne
wanted things to appear as if they could be broken down. Cezanne utilizes an array of
geometric
The Renaissance Essay
The Renaissance
Renaissance is the period of European history that saw a renewed interest in the arts.
The Renaissance began in 14th century Italy and spread to the rest of Europe in the
16th and 17th centuries. In this period, the fragmented feudal society of the Middle
Ages, with its agricultural economy and church dominated intellectual and cultural
life, was transformed into a society increasingly dominated by central political
institutions, with an urban, commercial economy and lay patronage of education, the
arts, and music. The term renaissance, meaning literally rebirth. Modern scholars
have exploded the myth that the Middle Ages were dark and dormant. The thousand
years preceding the Renaissance were filled with ... Show more content on

Medieval Italian merchants developed commercial and financial techniques, such as
bookkeeping and bills of exchange. The creation of the public debt, a concept
unknown in ancient times, allowed these cities to finance their territorial expansion
through military conquest. Their merchants controlled commerce and finance across
Europe. This fluid mercantile society contrasted sharply with the rural, tradition
bound society of medieval Europe; it was less hierarchical and more concerned with
secular objectives.
The recovery and study of the classics entailed the creation of new disciplines
classical philology and archaeology, numismatics, and epigraphy and critically
affected the development of older ones. In art, the decisive break with medieval
tradition occurred in Florence about 1420 with the invention of linear perspective,
which made it possible to represent three dimensional space on a flat surface. The
works of the architect Filippo Brunelleschi and the painter Masaccio are dazzling
examples of the uses of this technique.
Donatello, who is considered the founder of modern sculpture, created the bronze
David, the first life size nude since antiquity. From the mid 15th century on, classical
form was rejoined with classical subject matter, and mythological motifs derived from
literary sources adorned palaces, walls, furniture, and plates. The

Follow-Through Radiography
A study was done by five attending and four resident radiologists, to compare
radiological quality and radiation dose using digital radiography (DR) and
conventional screen film (SF) radiography in an abdominal radiography. The study
used eleven patients between the ages 18 27 to undergo a Small Bowel Follow
Through (SBFT) examination. The examination included two radiographyimages. For
each examination, one of the radiographs was done using DR equipment and the
other was done using SF radiography. In order to create similar viewing conditions
the DRs were printed on film. The SF and DR images were acquired under certain
scanning conditions, which included a Bucky grid used for both, identical focus size
and source to image distance (SID)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The researches used only adult chest radiography s to compare the radiographies.
The radiographs were taken while sitting, supine, in an erect posterior anterior
(PA) position, and in an erect anterior posterior (AP). Each radiograph was taken in
one of three of those positions. The study period was four months long, the first
two months conventional radiography was being used, and in the last two months
CR was being used. The choice to take a retake was made by the radiographer;
every number and reason for the retake was recorded. Exposure, technique, patient
movement, or other factors determined the reason for a retake. Each film was
evaluated by a panel of 13 radiologists and was search for adequacy under certain
guidelines. There was total of 6372 conventional and 4127 of DR films that were
Al Capone Gang Stereotypes
Al Capone
Gangs have many stereotypes, stereotypes on how gangs work and the structure
behind them. The other major stereotype is the focus on criminal behavior, and the
blaming of gangs for criminal acts (Moore). The research on gangs and drugs is
small, because not many people have been able to infiltrate the gangs and make gang
members speak (Kobler). The police and the media make the public afraid of the
gangs because of the drugs and the violence. The media shows the gangs in a
terrible light to attract better audiences. What is known about gangs, is almost all
heard from the media and the police who essentially blow the event out of
proportion and make it look worse than what it actually is (Moore). Al Capone was

As he was leaving the courtroom, he was arrested for contempt of court (FBI). The
reason he was arrested was that he attended a racetrack in the Miami area and had
taken a plane trip to Bimini and a cruise to Nassau when he was supposed to be in his
bed. The penalty could be one year in prison and a fine of only a thousand dollars.
Capone posted a five thousand dollar bail and was released (History Learning Site).
Capone s first arrest was for carrying a concealed weapon in Philadelphia. Within
sixteen hours, they had all been sentence to a one year term (Al Capone Biography).
Capone served his time and was released in nine months for good behavior (Woog).
Capone was arrested again for tax invasion. His mob bribed the jury, but on the day
of the court date, the judge suddenly switched the bribed jury with a new one that
had been chosen the night before (Al Capone Biography). After only nine hours,
Capone was found guilty of several counts of tax invasion and was sentenced to
eleven years. Capone also picked up a $50,000 fine and a court cost of 30,000 and his
bail was denied (Organized
A Modest Proposal For Preventing The Children Of Poor
People
Satire is a method used by multitudes of authors and other artists for a plethora of
different reasons. The ways that this method of literature is used is varied, and it is
always interesting and somewhat difficult to find out exactly why these texts are
written. A specific author who is known for utilizing satirein his works of literature is
Jonathan Swift, whose hard hitting essay A Modest Proposal For Preventing the
Children of Poor People in Ireland, from Being a Burden on Their Parents or
Country, and for Making Them Beneficial to the Publick is one of the most
popular and analyzed texts within the world of satire, and truly makes one think
about the art. One article that explores Swift s use of satire within A Modest
Proposal is Paddy Bullord s The Scriblerian Mock Arts This essay delves deeply
into Swift s works, and the art of satire in itself and is a great way to explore Swift
s work. The main question about Swift s A Modest Proposal that will be explained
and explored through this paper is this; what prompts Swift to write about his points
using irony and satire, even though satire is a method that metaphorically goes over
the head of its readers?
Swift s view on satire can be seen through Paddy Bullord s article, where he explains
how Swift felt about the art. Bullord states that many satirists refer to satire as
something potentially effective, but ultimately something that can easily backfire on
the author. As Bullord says, Jonathan Swift did not hold

Respond to the following questions:
Why was Martin Luther s insistence that only Scripture carried religious authority
significant to the Reformation period?
Important ideas developed by Martin Luther were that people are saved through faith
alone (sola fides) rather than through works and that the only source of religious
authority is the Scriptures (sola scriptura). The primacy of faith over works is made
more significant when we remember that Luther included among works the Mass and
other devotional activities which were common among Catholics. Once these were
eliminated as necessary for salvation, the way was paved for a much simpler, more
basic Christian faith.
Why were the religious divisions of the Reformation period important for the
development of western civilization?
In America there would never have been Pilgrim Fathers if there had not first been a
Protestant Reformation. The Reformation has profoundly affected the modern view
of politics and law. Prior to the Reformation the Church governed politics; she
controlled emperors and kings and governed the
Integumentary System Research Paper
The integumentary system is an organ system that consists of skin, hair, nails, and
exocrine glands. This system s most important function is to protect the body from
outside harm. Other functions include retaining body fluids, protecting against
disease, ridding of waste products, and regulating body temperature. The skinis the
largest organof the body; although, it is only a few millimeters thick. It helps to
protect the body from chemicals, ultraviolent light, disease, and physical damage.
The epidermis is the outer layer of skin that covers almost the entire body. This layer
lies above, and protects the dermis, which is the inner layer of the skin. The
epidermis does not contain blood or blood vessels; however, the dermis does. There

evaluate the problem, one of the biggest questions to consider is to what extent is the
designer

maintained or will more appealing options threaten the success of Starbucks primary

If the designer coffee market is indeed a fad industry, we need to evaluate Starbucks
possible options to avoid further decline. The overarching question that we should
answer is how
Starbucks can stay profitable in the future. A good place to start involves evaluating
the current market for coffee; from this point, we can gather information about
market performance and determine the extent to which designer coffee appeals to
current consumers. Through market analysis, we can investigate whether or not the
demand for gourmet coffee is wavering. We will evaluate whether coffee companies
in general are having trouble maintaining profitability or if it

The United States And The Middle East
Over the past decade, wars and interventions in the Middle East have broken up
existing states, fostered sectarianism and destroyed infrastructures, creating the
Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. After years of revolutionary upheaval, the Arab
world s old system is on the verge of collapse. The United Statesand other countries
bear the blame for this emergence and growth of the indigenous movements like the
Taliban, AL Qaeda, and IS. Order in the Middle East has been undermined by corrupt
and illegitimate governments, abundance of energy resources, inadequate educational
systems, and various religion related and secular problems. Outside action have added
to the problems, from poorly drawn national borders to recent interventions. In...

Air power is instrumental for changing the course of wars. Experience in Libya
shows how important it is developing influence on the field and devoting sustained
efforts for postwar stabilization. The current turmoil in Iraq was created by a revolt
against specific governmental policies which has its origins in the United States
invasion and occupation. Saddam Hussein, who ruled the country, was part of the
Sunni minority who suppressed the Shia majority. However, Sunnis and Shias
coexisted in Iraq because Saddam did not allow overt sectarianism to flourish.
Political affiliation was primarily based on secular ideologies and any group that
grew too strong was purged by his security forces. Whenever possible, Saddam
would strike deals with leaders of socioeconomic minority groups in order to keep
indigenous resistance at bay. Because of its alleged connections to weapons of mass
destruction and terrorism, the United States invaded Iraq in 2003. Iraq was
conquered fairly quickly, and the United States, without a plan, deployed a divide
and rule strategy when negotiating the new Iraqi state. The Iraq citizens were forced
to declare a sectarian identity which formed the basis of political organizations.
Based on this new social contract, a quota was put in place in the governing council.
Ethnic and religious groups were pitted against each other by politicians, and this
precedent continues in the new government. Regional power dynamics in Iraq

Apple Inc. s Ongoing Conversation With Consumers
On September 9th, 2014 Apple announced the upcoming release of its newest
personal device, the Apple Watch. The first advertisement released for television was
a one minute advertisement that featured only music and video of the watch in use
with a simple written statement at the end of THE WATCH IS COMING followed
by the release date, 4.24.2015, and then the Apple Watch logo. This essay will
examine why this advertisement can be so simple and yet communicate so much by
looking at how this Apple Watch advertisement fits into the larger context of Apple
Inc. s ongoing conversation with consumers.
The first reason this advertisement is so effective is that, since the very successful
release of the iPod in 2001, Apple has been remarkably consistent in its branding and
advertisements of personal devices. So consistent that if you review the initial
commercials of the iPod, iPhone, iPad, and now Apple Watch there is an identifiable
parallel structure to them all that has become increasingly simple and clear over
time. The first commercial for the iPod was the silhouette of a person dancing with
an iPod against a single colored background follow by iPod + iTunes , then the Apple
logo. The first iPhone commercial was a string of movie clips of people answering
a phone followed by an image of the first iPhone then Hello , Coming in June , and
ending with the Apple logo again. The first iPad add is the most similar to the Apple
Watch add in that is simply has music while
Analyzing Somo s Song Ride
Critiquing Music Many songs that are played on the radio have, and carry, so much
emotion through individuals each and every day. The song Ride by Somo, intensely
exposes many of the emotions that a guy has when he is with a girl that he loves.
Somo is explaining that he loves the girl he is with for the night. It does not explain
how long he has known or been with the girl, just that he is having so much passion
for her the night he is singing this song. Many levels and interpretations can be
thought of when listening to Ride . The description, analysis, interpretation, and
judgement of this song and musicvideo can be described in so many words. Ride s
main chorus is where Somo is stating over and over that he wants to treat the... Show

The music in the background is softer when he is singing the chorus. The music
video is of Somo and his lady friend sexually dancing inside of his house. When the
chorus is sung, that music in the background of Somo s voice gets much louder than
the rest of the song. All of this combined can be analyzed in a specific way.
Throughout the music video, Somo and his lady friend are wearing almost no
clothing. This was done to show that the song is sexualized and passionate. The
movement of their bodies going slow, show that Somo wants to be as gentle and
caressing as possible. The low voice when he speaks to her is soft so he can show
that even though he is bigger, that he can treat her right and be romantic with her.
Other parts of the song allow someone to have an interpretation of what Somo wants
to show the lady.
Many of the sounds, feeling, and emotion throughout the song intertwine with one
another to portray a certain feeling to an audience of listeners. The point of the
song is to show that even though a guy can look big and seem macho, when he
finds that one girl that makes he feel different he can become something romantic
and passionate. Once you are with a girl for a night, maybe you can only see her for
one night, you should tell her your emotions and how you want to treat her like a
queen. Judgement of this song can be made that it is also a little too
Amazon Tribals
Is it really beneficial to contact new tribes or communities who have been
uncontacted since forever probably? Even though that Stephanie Nolan suggests in
her article Last lost tribes of the Amazon fear being found that contacting these
humans will promote welfare to their standard of living, this can be only one side of
the problem. In this essay I will explain my disagreement with the idea of contacting
the amazon tribes for three reasons; cultureshock, unfamiliar diseases, and seizing the
Amazon tribes natural resources.
First, I do understand the amazon tribes desire to be uncontacted with the outside
world. According to Sydney Possuelo, a Brazilian explorer and leader of activists on
Brazil s isolated indigenous groups, Far from oblivious to the workings of the outside
world, they have studied it carefully, and want no part of it. Nolan s did use this
quotation in her article to show that the indigenous tribes have no interest to merge
with the outside world, at least not for the moment. Furthermore, the usage of satellite
coverage and helicopters to observe and monitor such people made more determinant
to express that it might be better for the home grown tribes to remain uncontacted.

Consequently, the business confidence is deteriorating based on the NAB s
business survey (NAB Group Economics, 2015). It appears that the weakness of
economy is due to the lower mining sector s contribution to economy and some non

stated that despite RBA decided to keep the cash rate unchanged by 2.25 for 18

had slumped 3 index points to 0 in the last week of February (Mulligan, 2015,para.2).
This means that the further decline of cash rate is required to support the spending

The Second Sex Simone De Beauvoir Analysis
Revolutionary and thought provoking, Simone De Beauvoir s The Second Sex is
a novel that challenged the subordination of women brought upon by men and
illustrated a feminist and philosophical perspective on rights of women. Working
alongside with Jean Paul Sartre, De Beauvoir s work in The Second Sex underlies
Sartre s concept of bad faith in relation to De Beauvoir s concept of the battle of the
sexes. Being confined by her own immanence in a male dominated society, De
Beauvoir illustrates that the feminine subject declares herself as their equal in
relation to the transcendence of the male for the struggle for recognition because it
is affecting her free will and responsibility (De Beauvoir 428). By recognizing the
female, the male attempts to find himself as a stable identity to transcend as the male
figure through the devaluation of femininity and the oppression of women. Lastly, De
Beauvoir believes that the construct of femininity is itself a product, as Sartre puts it,
of bad faith because one is not born, but rather becomes, a woman. Conceived by
Jean Paul Sartre, the concept of bad faith underlies Simone De Beauvoirs concept of
the so called battle of the sexes. In order to explain how the concept of bad faith
relates to the concept of the battle of the sexes, one has to understand Sartrean
philosophy. According to Sartre, bad faith is an act of deceiving oneself by rejecting
the notion of freedom and one s facticity, even though human beings are
European Transplantation History
Physicians explored the idea of transplantation as early as the European Renaissance
(1300s 1600s). During that era, they found that they could take tissues from one part
of a person s body and graft them surgically attach them to a damaged site. There
were some cases where transplants between two people did not work. Doctors and
scientists continued experiments with animals, making important medical advances
as they went along. About the year 1900, doctors discovered that there were three
major blood groups: A, B, and O. For a successful blood transfusion, or transfer
between two individuals, the donor s blood type must match the recipient s type. The
first successful kidneytransplant was performed by surgeon Joseph E. Murray, in
1954.
Factors Affecting The Hospitality Industry
According to the read and digest website, a resort is a place where families intend
to spend their holidays or weekends for relaxation or recreation. Usually resorts are
commercial establishments like hotels, which are managed by companies. People
in urban areas are especially busy all through the week and look for ways to
refresh and rejuvenate themselves. Resorts are the perfect place for such people
who can happily spend time with their families and also getaway places for
birthday parties and theme parties. They are usually located away from the hustle
bustle of cities and towns. (read and digest). There are several factors to consider
when talking about resorts there are always trends, economic, social/societal, and
global issues that are to be considered. Economic Trends Most, if not all, parts of
the hospitality industry excel from rises in the world economy, and suffer from the
lows (Kapiki), and destination resorts are no exception. During low periods in the
economy destination resorts try to lower their prices for customers to be able to
still coming, and raise their prices when the economy improves. Destination resorts,
however, do not just depend on the world economy. Most destination resorts are
located in places called resort towns because the towns rely heavily on the resorts
for jobs, outside income, and just about every other aspect of their local economy. In
the case of the resorts failing, these towns would either partially or completely
collapse, however
Fort Morgan One City One Book Analysis
Many cities across the United states have started the One City , One Book project,
like Chicago and even Denver. Fort Morgan as a community deserves to also get to
try out these new activities that would benefit our community greatly in many
aspects. The community of Fort Morgan would benefit from the One City/One Book
project because of the diversity in Fort Morgan, it will keep people involved and
encouraged to try something new, and it may open up people s mind. We should have
a one book one city project centered around Enriquez Journey as our first book

It gives us an opportunity to open up our minds because we can get details about

The Motif In Ray Bradbury s There Will Come Soft Rain
The motif in Ray Bradbury s There Will Come Soft Rains is rain itself. In the story
the house has come to life. The technology has taken over humanity in American
culture. The house can clean itself, cook, and pay bills. Even when the family is
gone, the house still acts as if they live there still. The entire west face of the house

small boy... a thrown ball... a girl, whose hands raised to catch a ball which never

Its something one can still relate to. The motif, rain, is what brings us back to reality

Environmental Issue Essay
Environmental problems are something which belongs to nature or known as Mother
Earth [13]. Nature was created to help people survive from gathering foods until build
a house. This phenomenon happens continuously without thinking how much
damage that nature has because human s fault. Nature gradually becomes worse and
animal s life in danger. People who are aware of the importance of nature react.
Those people do several ways to save the environment. Although these efforts can
return back the environment, these efforts only can be hold temporarily. This
problem happens because those people who are aware of the environment only
slightly; for remaining, there are people either do not know or do not care about the

Air pollution levels have a large existence in big cities in Indonesia like Jakarta,
Bandung, and so on. This problem happens because the number of motor vehicle use
that is not limited [1]. Exhaust smog are the cause of air pollution which has the
dangerous effects for people s health. Exhaust smog is a result of burning fuel oil
every motor vehicle. There are two types of burning fuel oil: the first is complete
burning [2] and incomplete burning [3]. These types of burning have the
differentiation in producing the remainder. Complete burning produces carbon
dioxide as a result of remaining while incomplete burning produces carbon monoxide
as a result of the rest. Carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide are gases that are
harmful to people s health and could decrease ozone layer [4] [5]. Exhaust smog is
hazardous to people s health. Exhaust smog is a result of burning fuel oil [6].
Consequently, exhaust smog has possibility to contain carbon dioxide and carbon
monoxide gas. These harmful gases affect human respiration. Carbon monoxide
makes the respiratory system becomes worse. Carbon monoxide will interfere with
the process of hemoglobin in breathing [7]. As a result, people will not only feel lack
of oxygen but also often feel dizzy and weak. In the other hand, carbon dioxide
causes dizziness and fatigue to the sufferer [8]. In the prevention and reduction of the
impact of exhaust smog, the Indonesian government decided all motor vehicle users

The Minister’s Black Veil
The Minister s Black Veil Characterization
This essay will demonstrate the types of characters present in Nathaniel Hawthorne s
The Minister s Black Veil, whether static or dynamic, whether flat or round, and
whether portrayed through showing or telling.
R. W. B. Lewis in The Return into Rime: Hawthorne states: ... there is always more
to the world in which Hawthorne s characters move than any one of them can see at
a glance (77). This is especially true with such flat or two dimensional characters as
are generally found in The Minister s BlackVeil. These type characters are built on a
single idea or quality and are presented without much individualizing detail (Abrams

Commenting on the realism of Hawthorne s characters, literary critic A. N. Kaul
says: A deeply American writer, Hawthorne is also a peculiarly modern writer. It is
true that often he deliberately, even perversely, shrouds his narratives in a sort of
nameless, dateless archaism, and delights too in calling up figures that seem to
belong anywhere but in the real world (1). Hawthorne, after exposing the surprised
people to the sable veil, develops the protagonist through a description of some of his
less exotic, less curious characteristics:
Mr. Hooper had the reputation of a good preacher, but not an energetic one: he strove
to win his people heavenward by mild, persuasive influences, rather than to drive
them thither by the thunders of the Word. The sermon which he now
delivered was marked by the same characteristics of style and manner as the general
series of his pulpit oratory.
However, on this first day of wearing his black veil there is some peculiar difference
in Hooper s sermon:
But there was something, either in the sentiment of the discourse itself, or in the
imagination of the auditors, which made it greatly the most powerful effort that they
had ever heard from their pastor s lips. It was tinged, rather more darkly than usual,
with the gentle gloom of Mr. Hooper s temperament. The subject had reference to
secret sin. . . .
Why Did The Provisional Government Lose The Russian...
The first riot started because women demanded more bread. However, the riot
spreader throughout the whole country and other industries. On March 12, the army
in Petrograd abandoned the royal family and joined the riots with workers to
demand reforms. On the same day, the Duma astonished the provisional government
and told Nicholas to abdicate. Nicholas family was been put at the Tsarskoe Selo
Palace at first. In 1918, due to the afraid of rescuing them, they were sentenced to
death on July 16.
The provisional government set up some rights and freedom for citizens, such as
freedom of speech and religion. However, since people still don t have enough food
to eat and prices were still too high, mutinies and strikes happened frequently even
after the establishing of the provisional government. One of the leaders of provisional
government, Alexander Kerensky, believes that Russiashould keep fighting in the
Great War because it is a national duty. The idea of continuing fighting with Germany
became the main cause of the second revolution.

Taking a Look at Beowulf
Beowulf, the story of a man of superhuman strength who battles against a variety of
demonic monsters to save King Hrothgars kingdom from fear and later defends his
own kingdom against a dragon which ultimately leads to his death, is thought to be
written sometime around the 8th century. The timing is significant because it is
around the same time that the English society was teetering between pagan and
Christian beliefs. This shift in societal beliefs is evident throughout the poem with
references to God, Cain, and fate being decidedly Christian, and other references to
heroic legends of the Germanic times reflecting much more pagan influences. Now
there is still debate on whether the Christian influences were added later to a once
pagan centric poem, but the end result of both points of view being combined in this
work is not.
The description of Beowulf s strength is obviously done from a pagan perspective,
he s seen as an unstoppable force, power which is unmatched by anyone else in the
world. During the battle with Grendel his strength is made clear when Beowulf grabs
Grendel for the first time, The captain of evil discovered himself in a handgrip
harder than anything he had ever encountered in any man on the face of the earth
(Lines 749 752). Beowulf s audacity and belief in himself as a warrior were also
pagan, he chose to confront Grendel himself, unarmed, only using his strength as his
weapon, no swords or shields to protect him. An 8th century superman if you

Lifes for blacks in the 19th to mid 20th century was hard. They had to fight for
everything they have now and for equal rights. In 1890 , Louisiana passed a
Separate car act that said all railroad companies in Louisiana have to provide
separate but equal accommodations for whites and non white passengers. The
penalty for sitting in the wrong train car was $25 or 20 days jail. A group of black
citizens had joined forces with the East Louisiana Railroad company to fight the act,
but were unsuccessful.
In 1891 a group of Creole professionals in New Orleans formed the Citizens

TourgГ©e, a Reconstruction era judge and social reformer, as their legal counsel. As
plaintiff in the test case the committee chose a person of mixed race in order to

In 1892, Homer Plessy, a 30 year old male shoemaker who was an eighth black, paid

Because he was an octoroon he was still placed under the Black Codes of Louisiana.
He was asked to move to the blacks train car and he refused. ( In earlier times, it was
okay for him to because he was mostly white, but because of the Louisiana law he
was considered colored .) He was arrested for it, and he argued to the courts that the
case violated the
The Importance Of Aussie Identity
On the surface, Australia may appear to be floating piece of dirt filled with hardly
humans who smoke and drink their way through the wages, but down under is a
group of people whose bent teeth and beer bellies belie their values.
Hello, I am Layton Osborne.
Seldom seen by the masses who judge 24 million Australians based on misperceptions
and stereotypes, is a nation whose rich history and prosperous agricultural and
tourism industries drive and motivate the Australian population to proudly uphold
their identity. So what is the Aussie identity? Is it courage? Is it equality? Is it hard
work? Or is it all of these? What about vegemite, and thongs, and singlets? One thing
that can be said is that whether it s leaving butter in the vegemite jar or blowing a
plugger, Australians are united not through appearance or slang but rather through
our qualities and values. The film Australia follows a rich English woman who
travels to Darwin to force her husband to sell a property they own. When Lady
Sarah Ashley travels to Faraway Downs, she is met by an Australian man referred to
as Drover . Straight off the bat Drover epitomises the true Australian identity by
exemplifying hard work, equality and courage, values every Australian should be
proud to possess.
Whether it s a job behind the counter at Maccas or representing our country in the

Analysis Of The Book For The Sake Of Posterity
Einhard, a German raised in the Carolingian court of Charlemagne wrote a vita as a
tribute to his king around 825 826 called The Life of Charlemagne after the kings
death. He wrote this book either at Charlemagne s son King Louis court or at one of
his numerous properties throughout the Frankish kingdom. Based on the didactic
nature of the document and Einhard s own saying that the book is for the sake of
posterity it is likely that his writing was either meant as a historical book concerning
the life of King Charlemagneto be used by further generations or, more likely based
on the type of information provided, meant to be a guide for future kings such as
Louis on how to be a good and proper king of as high a quality as the highly praised
Charlemagne. Einhard was the foster son of Louis father, Charlemagne, and it
appears that Einhard was trying to use their mutual father figure to set an example for
Louis because Louis kingdom was unstable. However, courtiers of the time knew that
they could not outright insult King Louis actions, therefore Einhard needed a way to
communicate his constructive criticisms to the king without being forthright about
his contempt for Louis and his behaviour. The careful courtier Einhard, while
writing The Life of Charlemagne tried to make Charlemagne appear to be a strong
leader as well as a friendly person in general but, flattery aside, his writing suggests
that Charlemagne was in fact controlling, relentless, ferocious, and aggressive.

that it provides information on the major leader King Richard as well as his role in

The third crusade started in 1189 and its main goal was to recapture the Holy land.
Its successes, both Christian and Muslim, are still reviewed to this day. The crusade
consisted of three major monarchs: Emperor Barbarossa of the Holy Roman empire,
King Richard of England, and King Philip of France. They all had one common goal
and it was to set out and recapture the Holy land from Saladin. This crusade began in
1189 and would last for three years. With the Muslims, under the leadership of
Saladin, recently taking control of Jerusalem from the Christians in 1187, they now
owned a region that many wanted. Although Saladin did successfully protect
Jerusalem from invaders, the Christian attackers were successful in

Now I understand that the two of you believe that marijuana is a gateway drug but
I have done excessive research and I can assure you that it is in in no shape or
form a gateway drug . The gateway theory argues that because heroin, cocaine and
methamphetamine users often used marijuana before graduating to harder drugs,
it must be a gateway to harder drug use. The theory implies that there is a causal
mechanism that biologically sensitizes drug users, making them more willing to
try and more desirous of harder drugs. Yet the gateway hypothesis doesn t make
sense to those who use marijuana or have used in the past. Research shows that the
vast majority of marijuana users do not go on to use hard drugs. Many users
compare their daily cannabis habit with dependency on caffeine. The UK
Department of Health say Cannabis is a weakly addictive drug but does induce
dependence in a significant minority of heavy users. If you are a regular cannabis
smoker (every day) and you stop smoking, you will experience some of the following
withdrawal symptoms: restlessness, irritability, mild agitation, insomnia, nausea,
sleep disturbance, sweats, and intense dreams. These symptoms, however, are mild
and short lived, lasting 2 to 4 days. With such negligible withdrawal symptoms, it is
not surprising that quitting marijuana is so easy, especially for someone with very
strong will power, such as myself.

In War, Nick Adams progresses from an innocent, invincible soldier to an
experienced, realistic human. Ernest Hemingway uses his minimalist approach to
display the destructive consequences of war and show that no benefits come from
violence. Nick departs for war as a confident soldier and learns very quickly about
the reality of war because of his injury. Then, he feels the psychological effects of
the war through his inability to rest. Finally, Nick leaves the war as a fortunate,
hopeful man with a lot still to experience. The war gives Nick a realistic outlook on

Mayeroff s Major Ingredients of Caring Related to Coaching Soccer
This essay explains how Milton Mayeroff s Major Ingredients of Caring, in his
book, On Caring, relates to coaching soccer. There are eight ingredients that
Mayeroff discusses in his book that all relate to becoming a successful coach. If a
coach anaylzes and considers each ingredient, he can deeply develop his skill as a
caring trainer and guide of the players in his charge. Mayeroff s basic principle is that
when a person cares about someone else, the person being cared for will grow. In
order for a coach to be successful, he needs his players to grow; therefore he needs to

Knowledge is not the only ingredient that leads a coach to be a successful one.
Alternating rhythms is defined as ...the rhythm of moving back and forth between
narrower and wider framework (p. 22), and is the second ingredient that Mayeroff
discusses in regard to caring. While coaching soccer, the coach needs to understand
that not all players will learn at the same pace or in the same way. The alternating
rhythm ingredient reflects the fact that different tactics are needed for different
players. A coach is a teacher: when someone does not understand a concept, a new
way is determined in order for the student to comprehend the concept. Soccer is an
interactive sport that requires a lot of practice to acquire the many moves and
tricks that make a soccer player effective. For instance, if a player does not
understand a coach through a visual example of a specific play during a corner kick,
the coach needs to develop another technique to teach the player the specific play
.The same thing goes for a play or a kick. A defender needs to know how to take the
ball from the opposing team, and then implement offensive skills. If a coach does
not teach this in a coherent manner, the player will not be able to grow. It is up to
the coach to aid the player to acquire knowledge of kicks, skills and offensive and
defensive plays to become successful not just in one game but
Pride And Corronment In Beowulf And Lanval
Pride is a trait everyone poses, but is having pride and being boastful a double edge
sword? Pride and boasting are something that appears in many different characters
with different manifestations through literature. In Beowulf and Lanval , the pride
and boastfulness are demonstrated as both a strength and weakness. Having the pride
to boast caused many issues for Beowulf, Lanval and the Queen Guinevere.
Beowulf starts boasting as soon as he is introduced to the King Hrothgar. Beowulf

my resolve / to come here to you, King Hrothgar / because all knew of my awesome

The Social Psychological Strain Theory
There are numerous theoretical theories that can be applied to Fish s case. Agnew
s social psychological strain theory (1992, 2005), focuses on mistreatment and
abuse as a source of acute stress in individuals. The theory suggests that when
someone presents an individual with a negative or noxious stimuli it could
promote aggressive behaviour (amongst other negative outcomes) in the targeted
individual (Agnew, 1992, 2005). This in turn could possibly lead to the targeted
individual involving themselves in illegal activities (Agnew, 1992, 2005). This
theory helps to provide an explanation as to why Fish committed his heinous
crimes as he along with the other boys at St Johns orphanage were reported to have
been relentlessly abused, physically, emotionally, and sexually by the staff
(Bardsley, 2012; Schechter, 2003). According to Brown et al., (2014), the staff
would often strip the children of their clothes then proceed to viciously beat them,
this was made worse by the fact that the other children were forced to watch the
savage beatings. Fish stated I was there [St. John s Orphanage] till I was nearly nine
and that s where I got started wrong. We were unmercifully whipped. I saw boys
doing many things they should not have done (Berry Dee, 2011, pp 157). Fish was
abused in front of the other students and humiliated on numerous occasions,
researchers suggested that Fish s treatment was a severe form of shame punishment
(Ramsland McGrain, 2009; Schechter, 2003). Fish
Gospel Essentials
Christian World View: Gospel Essentials Our worldview allows us to see into the
world at such an angle that it coincides with our beliefs, therefore affecting how we
think and live. Whether one falls under an atheistic, pantheistic, or theistic worldview,
they are guided in their life choices depending on the beliefs of their worldview.
Throughout this paper, I will summarize the elements of a Christian Worldview such
as God, Humanity, Jesus, and Restoration; I will then analyze questions one might
have about the Christian Worldview, and finally I will reflect on my worldview.
God God is our creator; He came before us and created the universe as we know it.

Humankind was created in the image of God; He gave them like characteristics
such as compassion, love, and faithfulness. In Genesis 3 we learn of the Fall of
Humanity, which introduces not only sin into the world but also pain. ( Lecture 3
, 2015) After the Fall human nature is then scarred by sin, humans are born sinful
by nature. In Genesis 4 Cain brings murder into the world; from here we see
humanity relentlessly depart from the wisdom of God. ( Lecture 3 , 2015) Only
by accepting Jesus Christ into their hearts, can they atone for their sins and get
right with the Lord. Humanity was originally created in the likeness of God, to
walk in his presence; they were made distinctly human with the ability to reason.
Humanity knows love because they are made of love, in the image of God who is
love. (1 John 4:16) After the Fall, humans are no longer pure enough to walk in His
presence and are punished for the sins they have committed. The purpose of
humankind changes from caring for the earth and all its inhabitants; to spreading
the word of the Lord. The Christian Worldview recognizes that humankind is sinful
by nature because Adam and Eve, God in his graciousness sent His only son to die on
the cross to atone for those sins. Jesus Jesus Christ is the Son of God, born of the
Virgin Mary. Jesus lived a humble life, spreading the word of the Lord, and died by
crucifixion for the sins of all of humanity. Jesus is referred to as Savior.
The Influence Of The Film Auteur
According to the Oxford Dictionary of Film Studies, authorship is defined as an
approach to film analysis and criticism that focuses on the ways in which the personal
influence, individual sensibility, and artistic vision of a film s director might be
identified in their work (Annette Kuhn and Guy Westwell 2012:25). The theory at the
root of this concept, was first developed in France, in the 1950s, under the name of
politique des auteurs, by director and critic François Truffaut, in his illustrious essay
A Certain Tendency of the French Cinema (1954), originally published in Cahiers du
CinГ©ma. Throughout this article, Truffaut sided against metteurs en scГЁne,
considered mere technicians, affirming that filmmakers should rather be auteurs...

However, the fundamental subjects of the oeuvre are no more than four. As
Kieslowski himself declared: all my films, [...] are about individuals [...] who don t
quite know how to live (1993:79). It is hence clear, that the theme of individuality is
essential in the director s work. In fact, even though his pictures deal with highly
debated issues such as death penalty and the universal values of liberty, equality and
fraternity, they are only concerned with them on a very human, intimate and personal
plane and not a philosophical [...] a political or social one (Kieslowski and Stok
1993:212). Indeed, the director s chief interests are the feelings and emotions of his
characters, the exploration of their interiority and of their quest to find meaning in
life, thus the melancholic contemplative mood of films such as Blue and Red.
In line with the motif of individuality, is the theme of loneliness. All the protagonists
of Kieslowski s pictures are alone and isolated, often because they have experienced
an emotional trauma, such as abandonment as in A Short FilmAbout Love or the loss
of a loved one as in Blue. They live in big cities, like Paris and Warsaw, but are
nonetheless unable to truly connect with others, and limit themselves to observing
life with a voyeuristic
Essay on Media Violence and School Shootings
Another school shooting goes down and is preyed upon by the media for a gripping
new story. Jonesboro, Arkansas, West Paducah, Kentucky, and Littleton, Colorado all
have one thing in common. All these places are sites where school shootings have
occurred. Why do school shootings happen and who is to blamewhen they do
happen?. These are two questions that are still trying to be answered. Some people
say that school shootings are due to the excess marketing of violence in movies,
television, video games, and music. quot; There is a difference between what one

The RIAA announced new guidelines on September, 1, shortly before the original
Senate hearing (Holland). They included three major updates: that advertising for
labeled records should not appear in publications or Internet sites where fifty
percent of the audience is under seventeen, that all consumer print ads of explicit
content albums display the advisory sticker , and that all E tailors clearly display
notice of stickered material through all phases of the transaction (Holland). These
regulations may help when trying to get CD s with explicit lyrics over the Internet
or in stores but the advertising towards kids still continues. The federal trade
commission shows that US Record companies continue to advertise violent songs
on TV through such outlets as BET, MTV, and the WWF Smackdown wrestling
show. The ads appeared during the after school and early evening hours when
children were most likely to be watching. The FTC also found that the five major
labels placed ads for albums with explicit content in such teen oriented magazines
as Vine and Right On, which focus on rap and R amp;B, and Thrashers and Metal
Edge, which celebrate metal rock music. Only 45 off 147 (31%) print ads reviewed
for labeled recordings displayed any parental advisory label, the FTC noted, and
those were frequently quot;a black and white blur, often too small or inconspicuously
placed to be noticed or seen quot;(Holland). So why can t parents just go out and fight

Analysis Of Gabriel By George Sand
Gabriel by George Sand, translated by Gay Smith and directed by Rebecca
MaxField was performed at the AS220 Head Trick Theatre Saturday, December 15
at 9:00 pm. Art is about the obscurity of modern art. In George Sand s Play, Gabriel
raises many unsolved questions.
In the opening scene, Gabriel is introduced as a Womanwho has been raised and
educated as a boy by his teacher, Father Chaivari played by Amy Thompson. In the
seventeenth century Italy. At the opening play, Gabriel played by Christine Pavao
has a dream in which she sees an archangel Gabriel loses his wings and become a
woman. The way George Sand develop and use Androgyny to introduce the audience
to Gabriel gender presents a series of questions that make the play meta reflection by
her work at large.
The play Gabriel in Sand s eyes concern gender instability. Throughout the play The
tone and text shifts from a narrative to a dramatic mode. By raising Gabriel as a
boy, her grandfather wanted to secure and ensure the wealth and title as the prince
of Bramante would pass to Gabriel rather than Astolphe. But Gabriel rejects the idea
and wants to return the wealth to Astolphe played by Kelly Robertson. Gabriel
rebels at the plan to return the wealth to the legal heir of the estate.but her
grandfather s henchman murders her before she can do so. As the audience, we see
Gabriel and Astolphe falls in love, most people thought that Gabriel would revert to
being a woman and marry her first cousin but that didn t
Influences In The Great Gatsby
Great Gatsby has become famous nowadays, thanks to Leonardo di Caprio. Why is
that important? Because Scott Fitzgerald s book was actually all about the Jazz,
literally naming the period of time between the end of the World War I and the
Great Depression the Jazz age. People owe so much to this period, which gave
people enough space to express themselves. A wise man once said: Jazz is an open
minded music designed for open minds . The magic started around 1895 in New
Orleans, and even though people think of jazz as the music for the elite, it was
actually born in oppressed Black community in America. Growing up, Jazz started to
take on many different influences, becoming the most hybrid form of music ever.

Theme Of Shooting An Elephant
Well known English novelist, essayist, and critic, George Orwell, in his essay,
Shooting An Elephant , explores the intricate and complicated ways of
Imperialism, and how they are mutually disadvantageous to both the oppressor and
oppressed. Orwell s purpose is to impress upon readers the idea that imperialist
power holds irony in the fact that those perceived to be in control are often
controlled themselves. He creates a tragic/angry tone in order to convey to his
readers his distaste for British Imperial rule in India. By looking at George Orwell s,
Shooting an Elephant, one can see through the author s use of analogies, how Orwell
s satirical and negative views of imperialismhave been greatly affected by his
firsthand experiences with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout most of the essay the elephant stands as a metaphor for the Burmese
people. Orwell makes this most clear when his narrator fires the three shots to kill
the elephant. The three shots stand as an analogy placed by Orwell to symbolise
the three wars that led to the Burmese people to falling under British rule. This
analogy helps impose onto the reader the idea that the elephant is the Burmese
people, with this picture in mind, as Orwell describes the tortured breathing (4)
and great agony (4) of the elephant; the reader develops a deep sadness which can
be turned to blame on imperialism. Orwell s full picture has come into view. No
one wins with imperialism. The oppressor and the oppressed both lose in the end.
This is made even more clear when Orwell writes, the elephant would never rise
again, but he was not dead. Here the elephant shifts from a symbol of the burmese
people to a symbol of the inevitable demise of british rule in
The Role Of Baseball In The 1970 s
One of the most important years for baseball in the 70s was 1974. Here are some
examples of why the 1974 baseball season is so important. During the 1974 season,
baseball made history and many of ways. The most memorable person was Hank
Aaron, Aaron broke Babe Ruth s total home run record (714). The pitcher that
everyone was scared of was Nolan Ryan and the king of steal that year was Lou
Brock. Hank Aaron went into the 1974 season one shy of the home runrecord. The
Braves started the season on the road, so they did not play Aaron, the Braves wanted
him to get the record at home. The Braves got in trouble with the league and they
made the Braves put him in the lineup. In Aaron s first at bat, his first swing,

Charles Finley, owner of the World champion Oakland Athletics, was fined $7,000
and put on probation mid way through the World Series. Second baseman Mike
Andrews played poorly in the second game of the Series. The Mets had won the
game in the 12th inning, after Andrews committed two errors, scoring four runs. In
his anger, Finley attempted to place Andrews on the disabled list, saying he had a
sore shoulder, and Andrews signed an agreement. Commissioner Bowie Kuhn did
not allow Andrews to be placed on the disabled list, and fined Finley for three
reasons (1970s Sports History). The 1970s had so much more important things to
influence the game but 1973 and 1974 were the 2 most important years. The coolest
nickname ever is Mr. October. Reggie Jackson gained that nickname by hitting 3
home runs in 1 single playoff game. What a cool nickname. Before Reggie Jackson
moved to the Yankees he lead the Oakland Athletics to 3 straight world series,
Analysis of Barn Burning Essay
William Faulkner s story Barn Burning occurs in the fictive Yoknapatawpha County,
Mississippi. It is a story set in the 1930 s, a decade of the Great Depression when
social and economic problems existed. Barn Burning is a story about social
inequality, in particular with the rich land owning family de Spain in contrast to the
poor tenant farming ways of the Sartorisfamily.
Abner is the father in the family. He is a cold deviant man. His family is constantly
moving around because of the violent crimes he commits. This creates external
conflict between Abner and de Spain. Out of this argument arises Sarty s argument,
that deals with sticking to both his morals and loyal ties to his family.

The black servant in fancy clothes exerts power over him, making Abner feel like a
lesser man.
Sarty responds to the elegant home with a with a surge of peace and joy. It was
like a safe haven from the terror in his life. In contrast, Abner views the house as a
reminder of his low economic status. He probably feels the injustice and becomes
enraged. His anger and perhaps jealousy drives him to destroy the landowner s
expensive rug.
When he is charged ten bushels of corn, he is pushed over the edge and plots to
destroy Mrs. De Spain s barn. In his mind, this would create justice. Sarty s moral
views kick in when he becomes aware of his father s evil plan. He turns against his
family in part because of his father s betrayal to his moral beliefs. At the end he
feels grief and despair, not terror. Grief may arise from realizing how immoral his
father has become. Sarty still believes that he was a brave man for having fought in
Colonel Sartoris s calvary. Abner was not so heroic though, when in truth he stole
horses from both armies and profited off their sales. Faulkner alludes to character to
the Bible where Abner, the commander in chief of the armies, didn t try hard to
protect King Saul s life.
Sarty s mother expresses her emotions towards the actions of her husband, but at the
same time she respects him. She is against the violence and destruction that he
creates, but doesn t

Current Issues In Ufk History
For the first time in history, the UFC will hold an event in mainland China, as the
company heads to Shanghai to host UFC Fight Night. The main event will feature a
middleweight fight between former champion and No. 2 ranked Michael Bisping,
and No. 9 Kelvin Gastelum. A middleweight bout between Gastelum and former
UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva was expected to serve as the main
event on Saturday. The two fighters were previously scheduled to meet in June at
UFC 212, but Gastelum was pulled from the bout after testing positive for Carboxy

instituted by the U.S Anti Doping Agency (USADA). Roughly two weeks before this

A win over a former champion and Hall of Famer in Bisping, even on short notice,
would put Gastelum right back in the hunt for the middleweight title. By promptly
stepping up and asking for this fight, Bisping has proved yet again that he s one of
the toughest fighters in UFC history. At 38 years old and a former champion,
Bisping doesn t have much left to prove. Bisping recently said during UFC
Shanghai s media conference call. Realistically, I don t see how I could have
turned this down, Bisping said. I honestly think this is a win win situation for me.
I get to go out there, get back in the win column, hopefully, get to put on a great
fight, remind the world what I m capable of and I get paid again, so it s all
positives from my perspective. In his Hall of Fame career, Bisping has collected
victories over Anderson Silva, Luke Rockhold, Cung Le and Dan Henderson, to
name a few. Another win on Saturday would add to his legacy as one of the greatest
middleweights of all time. Win or lose, however, Bisping insists he has one more
fight left in him, as he is expected to headline a London card in March, which would
put an end to one of the greatest careers in UFC
Course Learning Outcomes For English 110
As I reflect on my work at the end of this semester, I am able to see how much I
have improved as a writer. I have learned my weaknesses through peer reviews, and
the feedbacks that I received from you. This cover letter will address four of the
course learning outcomes for English 110 such as, how to write effectively using a
number of rhetorical strategies and patterns, demonstrate the ability to synthesize
materials drawn from multiple sources using critical reflection and independent
judgment, write a research paperof 2,500 words, and carry out essential steps in the
writingprocess. I enclosed three works that I have submitted for this course which
are, The Journey of a Small Town Girl, The Wright Brothers, and my research paper
titled The Dirty Dozen.
My purpose in writing the literacy narrative was to let different audiences to have
a taste of what the struggle of an immigrant is like. This was the first paper that I
had to write for this class and it was the easiest out of all. I got to express my
struggles in a very unique way. During my peer review session for this paper, I was
able to see my mistakes such as verb tense agreement, word choice and awkward
phrasing. I learned to not use abbreviations throughout this piece because a mixed
audience may not be familiar with them.
I think the best part of my narrative is my introduction and conclusion. My
introduction sets a mysterious tone by stating I always wondered how would my

Calculus Program Entry Essay
There is a metaphor about math education which posits that doing math is like
painting, and yet most students focus on whitewashing fences rather than
examining pieces by the great masters of art. Up until taking calculus in high
school, my thoughts about math rarely strayed beyond fence painting. However, I
was lucky enough to get a passionate high school calculus teacher who made it a
goal to introduce us to Van Gogh, Salvador Dali, and the like. From such
introductions I began to build my own sense of mathematical curiosity and build
internal motivation to explore deeper problems than fence painting. As a result, I
have come to a place in life where I believe that making a career of math research
will be the true path to my own eudaimonia. Through my conversations with the
aforementioned calculus teacher I was shown work in real analysis and
probability. I understood none of it at the time, but was able to take away that the
work I was doing in my calculus and statistics classes were merely the tips of
icebergs that I am glad to be descending upon now. I was also introduced to more
exotic fields like knot theory and chaos theory. Chaos theory was the field that
interested me the most, and so we would often talk about this during class downtime.
What got me seriously interested was the notion of non integer dimensions.... Show

At the end of this I will take stock of my current situation and if all is well I plan to

believe that I would in turn enjoy teaching. This is because of the commonly held
belief that the best way to learn is to teach and that I believe teaching to be one of the

Conformity And Expectation In Jane Austen s Northanger
Abbey
In Jane Austen s novel Northanger Abbey, conformity is a very prominent
recurring theme. The main character Catherine Morland fails to conform to the
clichГ©s of a typical literary heroine and woman in the aristocratic society. As a
child she never enjoyed the more girly activities, she had no taste for a garden, and
if she gathered flowers at all, it was chiefly for the pleasure of mischief, (Austen 5).
As a young teenager she was quite foolish and awkward. The narrator stated at the
beginning of the novelNo one who had ever seen Catherine Morland in her infancy,
would have supposed her born to be a heroine, (Austen 5). However, she was
considered to be more moral and honest than the other characters in the story,

Isabella Thorpe, a friend of Catherine s during a large portion of the novel, believed
that Catherine s brother James Morland was extremely rich and greedily squeezed
a marriage proposal out of him. However, when Isabella realized he was not as
well off as she assumed, she broke off the engagement and started to flirt with
Frederick Tilney, Henry s brother. Other women in that time period would do that
as well in order to marry rich, and Catherine thought that practice was revolting.
Catherine was at the age to be married, and John Thorpe clearly showed interest in
her. However, she disliked him and didn t succumb to the social customs and
expectations that pressured her to marry him. By showing her dislike for Thorpe,
she was proving that she was able to think for herself and form her own opinions.
She did not allow herself to be manipulated by anyone, and an element of that shone
through when she said If I could not be persuaded into what I thought was wrong, I
will never be tricked into it (Austen 68). Although Catherine is quite young and
naГЇve, she shows maturity in not letting herself be
What Is Worship And What It Is Not
What Worship Is And What It Is Not.
What is the true meaning of worshipping God? Is it intense emotional outpouring
of an individual? Is it smoke, lights, and loud music reminiscent of some sort of
sanctified bar room? Does it require music or sound at all? What exactly is
required of an individual who wishes to glorify his Creator and Redeemer? These
are the questions that will be discussed in this paper. What is worship? It can be
defined as many things from solitude and prayer with God; It may involve music to
some, in an effort to draw one closer into the presence of the Almighty. The best
definition of worship is this: it is an end unto itself; it is not a means unto
something else. When we try to worship for the sake of certain benefits that may
be received, the act ceases to be worship; for then it attempts to use God as a means
to something else. (Segler 5) It may be nigh unto impossible to pinpoint a single
form of worship that is applicable to everyone, but a single concept must be
present for all believers. This is the concept of surrender and obedience to God. It is
the humbleness to something greater than oneself. It the realization that man is
nothing but sand on the seashore, while God is an endless sea. Mankind is finite;
he is only given a few years, while God is the Ancient of Days. Whether this humble
surrender is in the silence of solitude or in the presence of other believers, it is
foolish to speculate. Worship is to quicken the conscience to the

Writing Definition Essay. How to Write Definition Essay in Colleges - Available Ideas

  • 1. Writing Definition Essay Writing an essay on the topic of "Writing Definition Essay" may sound paradoxical at first glance. It's like trying to define the act of defining itself. The challenge lies in the recursive nature of the task, as you find yourself caught in a loop of defining the process of defining. This recursive complexity can make the writing process a labyrinth of introspection and abstraction. To begin, you grapple with the need to precisely articulate the essence of what constitutes a definition essay. The irony is palpable as you navigate through the nuances of defining, trying to encapsulate the very essence of clarity within the often intricate web of words. One must tread carefully, avoiding circular definitions or falling into the trap of creating an essay that merely describes the act of defining without actually providing meaningful definitions. Crafting a coherent structure becomes an added challenge. Should the essay follow a linear progression, mirroring the step-by-step process of defining, or should it take a more abstract approach, reflecting the inherent subjectivity in the act of defining itself? Striking the right balance becomes crucial, lest the essay itself becomes a convoluted jumble of words lacking the clarity it seeks to explore. Moreover, the very act of defining implies setting boundaries, yet the boundaries of a definition essay on writing definition essays may seem elusive. The challenge intensifies when you grapple with the dynamic and evolving nature of language – a medium through which definitions are conveyed. What may be a steadfast definition today might undergo a metamorphosis tomorrow, leaving the essay vulnerable to the flux of linguistic evolution. In conclusion, writing an essay on "Writing Definition Essay" entails a paradoxical dance with language, a meticulous untangling of words to encapsulate the essence of definition. It's a journey through the labyrinth of linguistic intricacies and self-reflection, where the very act of defining is defined. The difficulty lies not just in expressing the concept but in doing so without succumbing to the recursive pitfalls that lurk within the topic. For those seeking assistance in navigating the complexities of essay writing, it's worth exploring resources like HelpWriting.net. • 2. Ultrasound History It first started as a tub full of water, and now Ultrasounds are machines smaller in size, easily portable, and even used in ambulances. The most widely known use of Ultrasounds is for pregnant women, as a way of monitoring the fetus. These machines are also used for imaging the inside of a person s body, and acts as a guide while doctors perform surgery. Doctors are now able to assist a patient better, make a diagnosis quicker and know if further medical attention is required. Time was once deadly in the medical field, once upon a time doctors were not able to know for sure if a patient had problems internally, and once the problem became known, it was sometimes too late to save a life. Over time, this piece of technology has changed for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Placenta Previa, Ronan Bakker an Obstetrician and Gynecologist defines this as, an obstetric complication that classically presents as painless vaginal bleeding in the third trimester secondary to an abnormal placentation near or covering the internal cervical os . Historically there has been two types; complete previa which covers the whole cervix, and marginal previa that only covers part of the cervix. Since there was no way to know if it was present in some women, they would often bleed to death. Through the use of the Diasonograph in 1968, Donald was able to find the accurate location of the placenta, giving doctors an opportunity to diagnose it sooner, thus saving the lives of many women and children. By the mid 70 s the machines became less expensive, smaller and easier to move. Getting an ultrasound of a fetus was once time consuming; if the fetus moved they would have to start the whole process over, but now movements of the fetus could be followed. Since the machines were becoming more available, departments owned more instead of one big static scanner, giving the staff an opportunity to
  • 3. Summary Of Slavery By Linda Brent Slavery granted more rights and freedoms to white Americans being considered powerful masters who could do everything they wanted not caring about human rights and basic principles of ethics. Since the author presents the female perspective on slavery and racism in the present book, the analysis of female characters and related female suffering due to sexual oppression and exploitation plays an important role in it. Linda Brent, the author herself, is the major female character in the book presenting many instances from her life and showing the life of slaves in detail. • 5. Analysis Of Paul Cezanne s Mont Sainte Victoire One of the most influential painters of the twentieth century was Paul Cezanne. He was willing to break the traditionally accepted artistic practice in order to better portray his artistic creativity. Cezanne was became part of the movement that followed the Impressionists called the Post Impressionism movement. The artists who were the driving forces behind this movement were Gauguin, Van Gogh, Seurat, and Cezanne. These artists were placed in this grouping because they were the avant garde artists of the time period, who wanted to be able to express their emotions rather than simply representing what they saw. Cezanne s Mont Sainte Victoire seen from The Bibemus Quarry was painted in 1985. Mont Sainte Victoire is a mountain that is in the South of France and overlooks the Aix en Provence, which happens to be the hometown of Paul Cezanne. This work exemplifies the Post Impressionistic techniques because Cezanne utilized the avant garde techniques, while at the same time demonstrating the relationship between the artist and the work. This work embodies the period style because it contains avant garde geometric shapes to define the forms, colors, and interpretations that were important to the Post Impressionists. First off, the harshness of the lines goes hand in hand with the shapes that exist in the work. The shapes tend to be simplified shapes, which demonstrates that Cezanne wanted things to appear as if they could be broken down. Cezanne utilizes an array of geometric
  • 6. The Renaissance Essay The Renaissance Renaissance is the period of European history that saw a renewed interest in the arts. The Renaissance began in 14th century Italy and spread to the rest of Europe in the 16th and 17th centuries. In this period, the fragmented feudal society of the Middle Ages, with its agricultural economy and church dominated intellectual and cultural life, was transformed into a society increasingly dominated by central political institutions, with an urban, commercial economy and lay patronage of education, the arts, and music. The term renaissance, meaning literally rebirth. Modern scholars have exploded the myth that the Middle Ages were dark and dormant. The thousand years preceding the Renaissance were filled with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Medieval Italian merchants developed commercial and financial techniques, such as bookkeeping and bills of exchange. The creation of the public debt, a concept unknown in ancient times, allowed these cities to finance their territorial expansion through military conquest. Their merchants controlled commerce and finance across Europe. This fluid mercantile society contrasted sharply with the rural, tradition bound society of medieval Europe; it was less hierarchical and more concerned with secular objectives. The recovery and study of the classics entailed the creation of new disciplines classical philology and archaeology, numismatics, and epigraphy and critically affected the development of older ones. In art, the decisive break with medieval tradition occurred in Florence about 1420 with the invention of linear perspective, which made it possible to represent three dimensional space on a flat surface. The works of the architect Filippo Brunelleschi and the painter Masaccio are dazzling examples of the uses of this technique. Donatello, who is considered the founder of modern sculpture, created the bronze David, the first life size nude since antiquity. From the mid 15th century on, classical form was rejoined with classical subject matter, and mythological motifs derived from literary sources adorned palaces, walls, furniture, and plates. The

The ways that this method of literature is used is varied, and it is always interesting and somewhat difficult to find out exactly why these texts are written. A specific author who is known for utilizing satirein his works of literature is Jonathan Swift, whose hard hitting essay A Modest Proposal For Preventing the Children of Poor People in Ireland, from Being a Burden on Their Parents or Country, and for Making Them Beneficial to the Publick is one of the most popular and analyzed texts within the world of satire, and truly makes one think about the art. One article that explores Swift s use of satire within A Modest Proposal is Paddy Bullord s The Scriblerian Mock Arts This essay delves deeply into Swift s works, and the art of satire in itself and is a great way to explore Swift s work. The main question about Swift s A Modest Proposal that will be explained and explored through this paper is this; what prompts Swift to write about his points using irony and satire, even though satire is a method that metaphorically goes over the head of its readers? Swift s view on satire can be seen through Paddy Bullord s article, where he explains how Swift felt about the art. Bullord states that many satirists refer to satire as something potentially effective, but ultimately something that can easily backfire on the author. As Bullord says, Jonathan Swift did not hold

Important ideas developed by Martin Luther were that people are saved through faith alone (sola fides) rather than through works and that the only source of religious authority is the Scriptures (sola scriptura). The primacy of faith over works is made more significant when we remember that Luther included among works the Mass and other devotional activities which were common among Catholics. Once these were eliminated as necessary for salvation, the way was paved for a much simpler, more basic Christian faith. Why were the religious divisions of the Reformation period important for the development of western civilization? In America there would never have been Pilgrim Fathers if there had not first been a Protestant Reformation. The Reformation has profoundly affected the modern view of politics and law. Prior to the Reformation the Church governed politics; she controlled emperors and kings and governed the

However, Sunnis and Shias coexisted in Iraq because Saddam did not allow overt sectarianism to flourish. This essay will examine why this advertisement can be so simple and yet communicate so much by looking at how this Apple Watch advertisement fits into the larger context of Apple Inc. s ongoing conversation with consumers. The first reason this advertisement is so effective is that, since the very successful release of the iPod in 2001, Apple has been remarkably consistent in its branding and advertisements of personal devices. The music video is of Somo and his lady friend sexually dancing inside of his house. When the chorus is sung, that music in the background of Somo s voice gets much louder than the rest of the song. All of this combined can be analyzed in a specific way. Throughout the music video, Somo and his lady friend are wearing almost no clothing. This was done to show that the song is sexualized and passionate. The movement of their bodies going slow, show that Somo wants to be as gentle and caressing as possible. The low voice when he speaks to her is soft so he can show that even though he is bigger, that he can treat her right and be romantic with her. Other parts of the song allow someone to have an interpretation of what Somo wants to show the lady. Many of the sounds, feeling, and emotion throughout the song intertwine with one another to portray a certain feeling to an audience of listeners. The point of the song is to show that even though a guy can look big and seem macho, when he finds that one girl that makes he feel different he can become something romantic and passionate. Once you are with a girl for a night, maybe you can only see her for one night, you should tell her your emotions and how you want to treat her like a queen. The Second Sex Simone De Beauvoir Analysis Revolutionary and thought provoking, Simone De Beauvoir s The Second Sex is a novel that challenged the subordination of women brought upon by men and illustrated a feminist and philosophical perspective on rights of women. Working alongside with Jean Paul Sartre, De Beauvoir s work in The Second Sex underlies Sartre s concept of bad faith in relation to De Beauvoir s concept of the battle of the sexes. Being confined by her own immanence in a male dominated society, De Beauvoir illustrates that the feminine subject declares herself as their equal in relation to the transcendence of the male for the struggle for recognition because it is affecting her free will and responsibility (De Beauvoir 428). By recognizing the female, the male attempts to find himself as a stable identity to transcend as the male figure through the devaluation of femininity and the oppression of women. Lastly, De Beauvoir believes that the construct of femininity is itself a product, as Sartre puts it, of bad faith because one is not born, but rather becomes, a woman. Conceived by Jean Paul Sartre, the concept of bad faith underlies Simone De Beauvoirs concept of the so called battle of the sexes. In order to explain how the concept of bad faith relates to the concept of the battle of the sexes, one has to understand Sartrean philosophy. According to Sartre, bad faith is an act of deceiving oneself by rejecting the notion of freedom and one s facticity, even though human beings are

During that era, they found that they could take tissues from one part of a person s body and graft them surgically attach them to a damaged site. There were some cases where transplants between two people did not work. Doctors and scientists continued experiments with animals, making important medical advances as they went along. About the year 1900, doctors discovered that there were three major blood groups: A, B, and O. For a successful blood transfusion, or transfer between two individuals, the donor s blood type must match the recipient s type. Taking a Look at Beowulf Beowulf, the story of a man of superhuman strength who battles against a variety of demonic monsters to save King Hrothgars kingdom from fear and later defends his own kingdom against a dragon which ultimately leads to his death, is thought to be written sometime around the 8th century. The timing is significant because it is around the same time that the English society was teetering between pagan and Christian beliefs. This shift in societal beliefs is evident throughout the poem with references to God, Cain, and fate being decidedly Christian, and other references to heroic legends of the Germanic times reflecting much more pagan influences. Now there is still debate on whether the Christian influences were added later to a once pagan centric poem, but the end result of both points of view being combined in this work is not. The description of Beowulf s strength is obviously done from a pagan perspective, he s seen as an unstoppable force, power which is unmatched by anyone else in the world. During the battle with Grendel his strength is made clear when Beowulf grabs Grendel for the first time, The captain of evil discovered himself in a handgrip harder than anything he had ever encountered in any man on the face of the earth (Lines 749 752). Beowulf s audacity and belief in himself as a warrior were also pagan, he chose to confront Grendel himself, unarmed, only using his strength as his weapon, no swords or shields to protect him. In 1890 , Louisiana passed a Separate car act that said all railroad companies in Louisiana have to provide separate but equal accommodations for whites and non white passengers. The penalty for sitting in the wrong train car was $25 or 20 days jail. A group of black citizens had joined forces with the East Louisiana Railroad company to fight the act, but were unsuccessful. In 1891 a group of Creole professionals in New Orleans formed the Citizens Committee to Test the Constitutionality of the Separate Car Law. They hired Albion TourgГ©e, a Reconstruction era judge and social reformer, as their legal counsel. As plaintiff in the test case the committee chose a person of mixed race in order to support its contention that the law could not be consistently applied, because it failed to define the white and colored races. In 1892, Homer Plessy, a 30 year old male shoemaker who was an eighth black, paid for a first class train ticket and took a seat in the all whites section of the train. Because he was an octoroon he was still placed under the Black Codes of Louisiana. He was asked to move to the blacks train car and he refused. He was arrested for it, and he argued to the courts that the case violated the

The Importance Of Aussie Identity On the surface, Australia may appear to be floating piece of dirt filled with hardly humans who smoke and drink their way through the wages, but down under is a group of people whose bent teeth and beer bellies belie their values. Hello, I am Layton Osborne. Seldom seen by the masses who judge 24 million Australians based on misperceptions and stereotypes, is a nation whose rich history and prosperous agricultural and tourism industries drive and motivate the Australian population to proudly uphold their identity. So what is the Aussie identity? Is it courage? Is it equality? Is it hard work? Or is it all of these? What about vegemite, and thongs, and singlets? One thing that can be said is that whether it s leaving butter in the vegemite jar or blowing a plugger, Australians are united not through appearance or slang but rather through our qualities and values. The film Australia follows a rich English woman who travels to Darwin to force her husband to sell a property they own. When Lady Sarah Ashley travels to Faraway Downs, she is met by an Australian man referred to as Drover . Straight off the bat Drover epitomises the true Australian identity by exemplifying hard work, equality and courage, values every Australian should be proud to possess. Whether it s a job behind the counter at Maccas or representing our country in the Olympics, Australians give their best effort. Like many outback Australians, the Drover is a rugged man whose industrious attitude is

Analysis Of The Book For The Sake Of Posterity Einhard, a German raised in the Carolingian court of Charlemagne wrote a vita as a tribute to his king around 825 826 called The Life of Charlemagne after the kings death. He wrote this book either at Charlemagne s son King Louis court or at one of his numerous properties throughout the Frankish kingdom. Based on the didactic nature of the document and Einhard s own saying that the book is for the sake of posterity it is likely that his writing was either meant as a historical book concerning the life of King Charlemagneto be used by further generations or, more likely based on the type of information provided, meant to be a guide for future kings such as Louis on how to be a good and proper king of as high a quality as the highly praised Charlemagne. Einhard was the foster son of Louis father, Charlemagne, and it appears that Einhard was trying to use their mutual father figure to set an example for Louis because Louis kingdom was unstable. However, courtiers of the time knew that they could not outright insult King Louis actions, therefore Einhard needed a way to communicate his constructive criticisms to the king without being forthright about his contempt for Louis and his behaviour. The careful courtier Einhard, while writing The Life of Charlemagne tried to make Charlemagne appear to be a strong leader as well as a friendly person in general but, flattery aside, his writing suggests that Charlemagne was in fact controlling, relentless, ferocious, and aggressive.

The gateway theory argues that because heroin, cocaine and methamphetamine users often used marijuana before graduating to harder drugs, it must be a gateway to harder drug use. The theory implies that there is a causal mechanism that biologically sensitizes drug users, making them more willing to try and more desirous of harder drugs. Yet the gateway hypothesis doesn t make sense to those who use marijuana or have used in the past. Research shows that the vast majority of marijuana users do not go on to use hard drugs. Many users compare their daily cannabis habit with dependency on caffeine. The UK Department of Health say Cannabis is a weakly addictive drug but does induce dependence in a significant minority of heavy users. Soccer is an interactive sport that requires a lot of practice to acquire the many moves and tricks that make a soccer player effective. Pride and boasting are something that appears in many different characters with different manifestations through literature. In Beowulf and Lanval , the pride and boastfulness are demonstrated as both a strength and weakness. Having the pride to boast caused many issues for Beowulf, Lanval and the Queen Guinevere. Beowulf starts boasting as soon as he is introduced to the King Hrothgar. Beowulf tells him, ... every elder and experience councilman / among my people supported my resolve / to come here to you, King Hrothgar / because all knew of my awesome strength (Beowulf 415 18). His boasting grants him an opportunity to battle Grendel. Later on, after he actually fights Grendel he proudly hangs Grendel s arm in the wall to prove just how great he is. Clear proof of this Could be seen in the hand the hero displayed High up near the roof: the whole of Grendel s Shoulder and arm, his awesome grasp (Beowulf 832 35), this is an example of symbolic boasting because it represents one of his greatest accomplishments. Beowulf makes many boast, time after time he boast about all his glories. He slowly starts to get more and more prideful till his very end. Agnew s social psychological strain theory (1992, 2005), focuses on mistreatment and abuse as a source of acute stress in individuals. The theory suggests that when someone presents an individual with a negative or noxious stimuli it could promote aggressive behaviour (amongst other negative outcomes) in the targeted individual (Agnew, 1992, 2005). This in turn could possibly lead to the targeted individual involving themselves in illegal activities (Agnew, 1992, 2005). This theory helps to provide an explanation as to why Fish committed his heinous crimes as he along with the other boys at St Johns orphanage were reported to have been relentlessly abused, physically, emotionally, and sexually by the staff (Bardsley, 2012; Schechter, 2003). According to Brown et al., (2014), the staff would often strip the children of their clothes then proceed to viciously beat them, this was made worse by the fact that the other children were forced to watch the savage beatings. Fish stated I was there [St. John s Orphanage] till I was nearly nine and that s where I got started wrong. We were unmercifully whipped. I saw boys doing many things they should not have done (Berry Dee, 2011, pp 157). Grief may arise from realizing how immoral his father has become. Sarty still believes that he was a brave man for having fought in Colonel Sartoris s calvary. Abner was not so heroic though, when in truth he stole horses from both armies and profited off their sales. Faulkner alludes to character to the Bible where Abner, the commander in chief of the armies, didn t try hard to protect King Saul s life. Sarty s mother expresses her emotions towards the actions of her husband, but at the same time she respects him. She is against the violence and destruction that he creates, but doesn t

  • 53. Current Issues In Ufk History For the first time in history, the UFC will hold an event in mainland China, as the company heads to Shanghai to host UFC Fight Night. The main event will feature a middleweight fight between former champion and No. 2 ranked Michael Bisping, and No. 9 Kelvin Gastelum. A middleweight bout between Gastelum and former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva was expected to serve as the main event on Saturday. The two fighters were previously scheduled to meet in June at UFC 212, but Gastelum was pulled from the bout after testing positive for Carboxy THC, which is a metabolite of marijuana and/or hashish above the 150 ng/mL limit instituted by the U.S Anti Doping Agency (USADA). Roughly two weeks before this Saturday s event, USADA notified... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A win over a former champion and Hall of Famer in Bisping, even on short notice, would put Gastelum right back in the hunt for the middleweight title. By promptly stepping up and asking for this fight, Bisping has proved yet again that he s one of the toughest fighters in UFC history. At 38 years old and a former champion, Bisping doesn t have much left to prove. Bisping recently said during UFC Shanghai s media conference call. Realistically, I don t see how I could have turned this down, Bisping said. I honestly think this is a win win situation for me. I get to go out there, get back in the win column, hopefully, get to put on a great fight, remind the world what I m capable of and I get paid again, so it s all positives from my perspective. In his Hall of Fame career, Bisping has collected victories over Anderson Silva, Luke Rockhold, Cung Le and Dan Henderson, to name a few. Another win on Saturday would add to his legacy as one of the greatest middleweights of all time. Win or lose, however, Bisping insists he has one more fight left in him, as he is expected to headline a London card in March, which would put an end to one of the greatest careers in UFC
  • 54. Course Learning Outcomes For English 110 As I reflect on my work at the end of this semester, I am able to see how much I have improved as a writer. I have learned my weaknesses through peer reviews, and the feedbacks that I received from you. This cover letter will address four of the course learning outcomes for English 110 such as, how to write effectively using a number of rhetorical strategies and patterns, demonstrate the ability to synthesize materials drawn from multiple sources using critical reflection and independent judgment, write a research paperof 2,500 words, and carry out essential steps in the writingprocess. I enclosed three works that I have submitted for this course which are, The Journey of a Small Town Girl, The Wright Brothers, and my research paper titled The Dirty Dozen. My purpose in writing the literacy narrative was to let different audiences to have a taste of what the struggle of an immigrant is like. This was the first paper that I had to write for this class and it was the easiest out of all. I got to express my struggles in a very unique way. During my peer review session for this paper, I was able to see my mistakes such as verb tense agreement, word choice and awkward phrasing. I learned to not use abbreviations throughout this piece because a mixed audience may not be familiar with them. I think the best part of my narrative is my introduction and conclusion. My introduction sets a mysterious tone by stating I always wondered how would my life... By starting the
  • 55. Calculus Program Entry Essay There is a metaphor about math education which posits that doing math is like painting, and yet most students focus on whitewashing fences rather than examining pieces by the great masters of art. Up until taking calculus in high school, my thoughts about math rarely strayed beyond fence painting. However, I was lucky enough to get a passionate high school calculus teacher who made it a goal to introduce us to Van Gogh, Salvador Dali, and the like. From such introductions I began to build my own sense of mathematical curiosity and build internal motivation to explore deeper problems than fence painting. As a result, I have come to a place in life where I believe that making a career of math research will be the true path to my own eudaimonia. Through my conversations with the aforementioned calculus teacher I was shown work in real analysis and probability. I understood none of it at the time, but was able to take away that the work I was doing in my calculus and statistics classes were merely the tips of icebergs that I am glad to be descending upon now. I was also introduced to more exotic fields like knot theory and chaos theory. Chaos theory was the field that interested me the most, and so we would often talk about this during class downtime. What got me seriously interested was the notion of non integer dimensions.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the end of this I will take stock of my current situation and if all is well I plan to proceed to pursue a PhD and continue onward to becoming a research mathematician. Moreover, I have no qualms with other associated duties. That is, I have had positive experiences as a grader for university math classes and I also believe that I would in turn enjoy teaching. This is because of the commonly held belief that the best way to learn is to teach and that I believe teaching to be one of the most noble
  • 56. Conformity And Expectation In Jane Austen s Northanger Abbey In Jane Austen s novel Northanger Abbey, conformity is a very prominent recurring theme. The main character Catherine Morland fails to conform to the clichГ©s of a typical literary heroine and woman in the aristocratic society. As a child she never enjoyed the more girly activities, she had no taste for a garden, and if she gathered flowers at all, it was chiefly for the pleasure of mischief, (Austen 5). As a young teenager she was quite foolish and awkward. The narrator stated at the beginning of the novelNo one who had ever seen Catherine Morland in her infancy, would have supposed her born to be a heroine, (Austen 5). However, she was considered to be more moral and honest than the other characters in the story, especially more than... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Isabella Thorpe, a friend of Catherine s during a large portion of the novel, believed that Catherine s brother James Morland was extremely rich and greedily squeezed a marriage proposal out of him. However, when Isabella realized he was not as well off as she assumed, she broke off the engagement and started to flirt with Frederick Tilney, Henry s brother. Other women in that time period would do that as well in order to marry rich, and Catherine thought that practice was revolting. Catherine was at the age to be married, and John Thorpe clearly showed interest in her. However, she disliked him and didn t succumb to the social customs and expectations that pressured her to marry him. By showing her dislike for Thorpe, she was proving that she was able to think for herself and form her own opinions. She did not allow herself to be manipulated by anyone, and an element of that shone through when she said If I could not be persuaded into what I thought was wrong, I will never be tricked into it (Austen 68). Although Catherine is quite young and naГЇve, she shows maturity in not letting herself be
  • 57. What Is Worship And What It Is Not What Worship Is And What It Is Not. What is the true meaning of worshipping God? Is it intense emotional outpouring of an individual? Is it smoke, lights, and loud music reminiscent of some sort of sanctified bar room? Does it require music or sound at all? What exactly is required of an individual who wishes to glorify his Creator and Redeemer? These are the questions that will be discussed in this paper. What is worship? It can be defined as many things from solitude and prayer with God; It may involve music to some, in an effort to draw one closer into the presence of the Almighty. The best definition of worship is this: it is an end unto itself; it is not a means unto something else. When we try to worship for the sake of certain benefits that may be received, the act ceases to be worship; for then it attempts to use God as a means to something else. (Segler 5) It may be nigh unto impossible to pinpoint a single form of worship that is applicable to everyone, but a single concept must be present for all believers. This is the concept of surrender and obedience to God. It is the humbleness to something greater than oneself. It the realization that man is nothing but sand on the seashore, while God is an endless sea. Mankind is finite; he is only given a few years, while God is the Ancient of Days. Whether this humble surrender is in the silence of solitude or in the presence of other believers, it is foolish to speculate. Worship is to quicken the conscience to the
