Araby tone
Araby, a short story from James Joyce s Dubliners, recounts an unnamed boy s
transition from childhood into adulthood, from a life filled with fantasy to all the
harsh realities of life in Ireland under British rule. The narrator of the story is the
older version of the protagonist, and as a result the prose seems far from what a
child would write a preadolescent would not display such self awareness and
understanding. Further examination of the text shows that the narrator is actually
embarrassed and chagrined by the confused adoration towards his friend s older sister
that marked his childhood, creating a reflective yet fatuous tone that is developed
through the utilization of literary devices such as dramatic diction, simile,... Show

For example, behind the boy s house is a wild garden [that] contained a central apple
tree, a clear allusion to the Garden of Eden. However, the image is distorted by a
rusty bicycle pump that the boy finds. He later sarcastically describes Mrs. Mercer
s collecting used stamps as having some pious purpose and notices two men [...]
counting money on a salver, an action that would not be permitted in a church as it
would be viewed as crass and unholy. Ironically, the boy himself is guilty of twisting
his religion to suit his own purposes. He believes that his love for Mangan s sister is
pure and holy, as shown by his attempt to deify her in his description of her as
being not only defined by light, but also touched discreetly by the lamplight at the
curved neck, which is reminiscent of the Virgin Mary in Christian iconography.
The religious imagery in Araby effectively showcases the narrator s aversion to
apotheosis and the practice of placing a person on such a pedestal. By presenting
the information in such a way, the narrator once again conveys the fatuous tone by
appearing regretful of what he believes to be his perversion of religion as a child
and by portraying his actions as foolish and unreasonable. This is accomplished by
contrasting the perversion of religion surrounding the protagonist with his deification
of the object of his adulation. Because the narrator of Araby is more mature and wiser

The Argument Of The Film About The Past
I will prove that that the argument of the film about the past can inform our
understanding of ourselves today in many different ways. As history can be very
influential to a nation, by the way we recall and decipher those history facts that
give us a feeling of place and self as a nation. However we should recall how those
authentic flashbacks can, and regularly are, controlled for different political
influences; because one event historycan have a change in the country forever.
Due to these events we know we cannot trust the government because stuff like this
can still be happening under the table and we wouldn t know, therefore that would

A Brief Look at Child Welfare
Child Welfare can be quantified in many ways some of the factors commonly
considered are weather children have enough to eat and a safe place to live, receive
adequate healthcare and edification, and are liberated from impecuniosity abuse, and
exploitation. Moreover because the treatment of children in any society is shaped by
that society s standards of living, resources, and postures about children s rights and,
responsibilities child welfare varies dramatically around the world. Many of the
reported cases of child abuseresult in little or no change to a child s situation and
taking proper steps is essential in protecting the children in these situations.
A significant amount of exploration continues to be performed around the probable
effects involving child abuse in addition to neglect. The consequences differ
according to the conditions of maltreatment, surroundings of the child, and child s
traits. Outcomes could be minor as well as severe; vanish immediately after a short
time or last an entire life in addition to impact the child physically, sentimentally,
behaviorally or in certain mix of just about all several methods. Out of some of the
research that has been gathered approximately 794,000 of the studies have been
identified for being victims regarding mistreatment along with neglect. All around the
youngest kids endure the greatest rate associated with victimization. Newborns
beginning at birth to at least 12 months old would be the most prone susceptible
Case Study Ryanair Holding
In order to sustain among other competitors, Ryanair Holding should evaluate their
strategy which is low cost business level strategy in the long run. This strategy
alone is not a basis for competitive advantages, nor are advantages sustainable over
time. This is because it can only be regard in helps Ryanair to increase its revenues
or to lower costs. The firms also derive a temporary advantage because competitors
quickly imitate or substitute for it as things that an organization own. Since economy
is further growing, Ryanair faces a lot of challenges in maintaining their revenue
growth while keeping ticket prices low. Thus, it is essential for Ryanair to narrow

If this strategy is scarce or they are not available to an airline industry s competitors,
they can become uncommon, difficult to exploit and rare compare to others. If
Ryanair s competitors possessed the same valuable strategy of low fares, it is not a
source of competitive advantage anymore unless it is rare. This is because all of
these airline industries have the capability to exploit that low fare strategy in the
same way. In this case, Ryanair Holding focus on control their cost by using a
single model aircraft which allows minimization of training and maintenance costs,
efficient management of spare parts inventory, and more flexible scheduling of
flight crews. This cost control is uncommon which is rare relative to other
competitors in the short run. But in the long run, Ryanair Holding would not be
rare forever since competitors which are other airline services would be using the
same strategy to compete with Ryanair Holdings. Thus, it would then give
customers more choices to pick. Infact, competitors like British Airways and Air
France would be able to develop the latest or better version of low cost business level
strategy than what Ryanair has offered. Therefore, this strategy then would not be rare
Clayton Wilkins Autobiography
When I was a child the atmosphere of baseball was almost intoxicating to me. The
scent of freshly cut grass as it tickles your nose, the sound of the ball whooshing
through the air from the mound to the catchers glove, and the sudden crack of the
bat as it knocks the little leather ball hundreds of feet out into the park. All of my
senses are in full joyous glee when I am surrounded by that environment.
Unfortunately, I only got to enjoy this atmosphere from the bleachers. I was born
with many medical issues, one of which being asthma that did not particularly like the
freshly cut grass tickling my nose. I would spend my time in the stands watching my

This happened when my Great Grandmother married a man named, Clayton
Thompkins. Clayton was eighty eight years old, had never married before, and did
not have any kids of his own. My father had left my Mom and I many years before
so the relationship seemed to spark instantly. Clayton took me under his wing and
became a father figure that I was not use to having around in my life. Every
Sunday at my grandmother s house, we would waste the day away with the sounds
of our voices. We would discuss about our favorite team the Oakland A s and how
much we despised the New York Yankees. Clayton had kept me happier that I could
ever remember as a child. However, it never slipped his mind that I was upset with
all my sicknesses and that I couldn t actually do any of the things we would talk
about. It was then Clayton would fill my young heart with the ideas of being in
sports without being on the field. The theory arose that, I could become a statistician
for baseball since math came so easy to me as a subject. We would listen to ESPN
Radio and he said I could be like our favorite sports radio analyst, Colin Cowherd. I
may even choose to get into writing and become a sports journalist for a newspaper
or magazine or even interview my favorite athletes on Television. These new dreams
that Clayton inspired in me gave me new goals and purpose in
The Texas State Of Texas
In the state of Texas, each county is governed by five member Commissioners Courts,
which consists of a County Judge and four Commissioners. The County Judge has no
veto authority over the decisions of the Court; they have one vote along with the
other Commissioners. Generally in smaller counties, the County Judge also performs
judicial functions, while in larger counties their role is limited to the Court system.
Elections are based on the political parties, such as Democrat, Republican,
Independent and sometimes Libertarian. Counties do not have home rule authority

Less business regulations have been the key to success in the state and namely in
the metropolitan areas. No state income tax is one tool that is good to use in order
to convince others to move. For businesses there is only a gross receipts tax; people
and companies are moving to the major cities in the state. Alaska, Florida, Nevada,
South Dakota, Texas, Washington and Wyoming do not have state income taxes
(Income Tax Rates by State, 2014). The lack of a state income tax is straining the
resources of counties and the cities throughout the state.
The State of Texas has led population growth in the U.S. for several years, and Dallas
is one of the fastest growing major U.S. cities. The Dallas Fort Worth area has seen
the greatest population growth in Texas, particularly in the northern suburbs of

more residents. It s projected that Latinos will reach 3.6 million in 2020, surpassing
the estimated 3.2 million non Hispanic whites in the area (Texas Population 2020

Comparing to the United Sates, the education level of India is extremely low but
has improved over the past years. Even though India is a growing country, its 67
years of life expectancy is relatively small due to high infant mortality rate and high
risk health conditions. Some of the diseases in India can be categorized under the
following criteria: food or waterborne disease, vector borne disease, water contact
disease, and animal contact disease. In addition, India consists of 2,085,000 people
living with HIV/AIDS and 135,500 people have died due to the virus, ranking India
third in the world. Also due to the widespread poverty in India, around 43.5% of the
population under the age of 5 are underweight and is ranked second in the world.
Economic Situation: India is considered the 120th freest economy in 2014 with an
economic score of 55.7. The score is reflected on areas like trade freedom and fiscal
freedom. India is below the regional and world average scores. Even though it is
noted as the most un free economy, India received the highest index scores in the

What Is The History Of Classical Music During The
Baroque...
The Baroque Period lasted from 1600 to 1750. This period is where studies of
classical music began. During this time period, artists would make their music as
intricate as possible to make it sound as elegant as possible. This was a great time
for royalty and nobility. The wealthiest households would hire musicians, but
depending on the household they might would have an entire orchestra. The
households would hire composers to compose songs for parties, balls, and
ceremonies. The church would also hire musicians, because of the general public s
love for music. (Craig) Oratorios were started in the Baroque Period. Oratorios are
sung, much like operas, except for they were about biblical stories. The only main
difference is that oratorios are unstaged performances. Oratorios were usually long
performances, lasting for several hours. Churches would normally have them for the
public. Churches would also have Cantatas. Cantatas were basically the same thing
as operas, but they were much shorter. They were usually as long as a church
service. (Craig) Instrumental music was still well loved during the Baroque Period.
Instrumental music was used for formal dances, like balls and parties. Suites were
also played; suites were made of different dance movements. The dance types are
allemande, bourree, courante, gavotte, gigue, minuet, sarabande, and waltz. The
music would normally have a constant beat and was often quite repetitive. (Craig)

We need to use what we have and use it to strengthen and help others not weaken
and knock down our fellow citizen. Sadly, many people use networking for
viscous deeds. If one knows that he is easily offended, it might be better to not
even open an account with a networking site. Yet if one does, it would be wise to
limit it to close friends and family as protection from this harsh society. Perhaps,
sticking to old fashioned phone calls, letter writing and going to visit that
individual that you want to keep in contact with. I remember back when I was in
elementary school during lunch one spring day. I recall walking into the cafeteria,
and my friends waved me down to come join them. I took cuts in line because I
wanted to be with them and catch up on all the latest gossip. I managed to get in
line without the lunch lady seeing me. I began talking with my friends, when this
snooty girl looked at me and said, What do you think you re doing? I ignored her
because I simply didn t care. I continued chatting with the girls until, I get shoved

Edward Malt s The Lindisfarne Gospels
A medieval minister takes up a plume pen, designed from a goose quill, and
plunges it into a rich, dark ink produced using ash. Situated on a wooden seat in the
scriptorium of Lindisfarne, an island off the shore of Northumberland in England,
he gazes hard at the words from a composition made in Italy. This book is his
model, a bound book, produced using sheets of paper or material, the codex, from
which he is to duplicate the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. For about the
following six years, he will duplicate this Latin.
The Lindisfarne Gospels, a standout amongst the greatest compositions of the early
medieval times, was composed and enhanced toward the end of the seventh century
by the monk Eadfrith, who got to be Bishop of Lindisfarne in 698 and passed on in
721. Its unique calfskin tying, was made by Ethelwald, who succeeded Eadfrith as
leader, and was enriched with gems and valuable metals later in the eighth century by
Billfrith the Anchorite. Today the composition is still bound in silver and gems, in
spreads made in 1852 to the detriment of Edward Maltby, bishop of Durham. The
configuration depends on themes drawn from the enrichment of the composition

The Main Goal Of An Artist
Similar to all great writers and innovators, the main goal of an artist is to spark a
creative perspective in the audience. Sarah Ruhl s oddly blunt play, Eurydice, was
meant to open up our minds and create an outlook that has never been achieved
before. Her intent was to keep us on our toes and read between the lines in order to
find the hidden truths in each line. The simplicity of the script was meant to be a
little strange and dull, but by doing this Ruhl entered a realm of playwriting that has
not been accomplished before. Usually, in the performances we watch we are
bombarded with long, complex sentences that leave the audienceconfused. The
vocabulary used is always either outdated or too complicated for many people to
understand quickly. However, in this place Ruhl took the opposite approach and
chose short and simple sentences, leaving more room for interpretation. By making
each line somewhat awkward and dull, Ruhl engages the audiences attention in order
to make sense of the words. Many factors could have motivated Ruhl to write her
play in such fashion. For example, when I was reading the playI connected her style
of writing to artists and poets of the 1960 s, like Bob Dylan and Jim Morrison, who
had such a beautiful yet simple play on words. Her outlandish sentences probably
made no sense to someone with a closed mind, this related directly to how the Dylan
and Morrison were perceived in their time as well. Many people didn t understand or

and therefore if it is intricate, it is literary. Nevertheless, in a passage taken under

Cognitive Dissonance Theory
How do you make it go away? You don t like the way you are feeling, something in
your gut is nagging at you with an overwhelming cloud of uneasiness. Suddenly, it
dawns on you that this uncomfortable sensation is the direct result of a decision you
ve recently made. Unaligned with your beliefs and morals, that decision has left you
internally conflicted. Your mindraces for avenues to ease your suffering. What will
you do next? This is the same scenario that Margaret Langston is battling in season
two from the television series Resurrection. As a well respected woman in the
community, Margaret has agreed to assist the neighborhood mob in the prevention of
a child being born in their town. As events unfold and the plot thickens Margaret
attempts various methods to evade the distress of cognitive dissonance. Cognitive
dissonance refers to a situation involving conflicting attitudes, beliefs, or behaviors.
This produces a feeling of discomfort leading to an alteration in one of the attitudes,
beliefs or behaviors to reduce the discomfort and restore balance (McLeod, 2014,
Introduction). As a reaction to emotional discomfort, our human nature seeks to
restore equilibrium producing a consonant relationship that dissolves the negative
emotional state of cognitive dissonance.

psychological studies have shown, it delivers a surprisingly high level of accuracy.

lot of relatives see how hard the staff are working and feel that they don t want to
complain because they sympathise with the difficult job that the carers have to

one receives. A relative might also not be aware that they can complain (although
this is in the welcome back and checked by social services and that it has been

They may assume that what has given them cause for concern is the norm and that in

CIDR creates a hierarchical addressing structure by breaking the network address
into CIDR blocks, which are identified by the leading bit string, similar to the
classful addressing just described.
To understand the importance of DNS and how it functions within a Window
Server 2008 networking environment, you must first understand the following
components of DNS * DNS Namespace * DNS Zones * Types of DNS name
servers * DNS resource records * The DNS namespace is a hierarchical, tree
structured namespace, starting at an unnamed root used for all DNS operations.
There are Root level domains, Top level domains, second level domains and
subdomains. DNS uses a fully qualified domain name to map a host to an IP address.
One benefit of the hierarchical structure of DNS is that it is possible to have two
hosts with the same host names that are in different locations in the hierarchy.
Another benefit of the DNS hierarchy structure is that workload for name resolution
is distributed across many different resources, through the use of DNS caching, DNS
zones, and delegation of authority through the use of appropriate resource records.
DHC is an open, industry standard protocol that reduces the complexity of
administering networks based on TCP/IP. It provides a mechanism for automatically
assigning IP addresses and reusing them when they are no longer needed by the
system to which they were assigned. It also provides mechanisms

The Program For Homeless Veterans
In January 2014, approximately 49,933 American veterans were homeless on a given
night. This number represents approximately 11% of the entire homeless adult
population in the United States. Of those homeless veterans, 64% were reported to be
sleeping in an emergency shelter or transitional housing and 36% were living on the
streets or other places not meant for human habitation. Today, the federal government
has many programs targeted to end veteran s homelessness; however, the Department
of Veterans Affairs (VA) currently has only one program offering a permanent
supportive housing solution for homeless veterans the U.S. Department of Housing
and Urban Development (HUD) and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)
Supportive Housing program (HUD VASH). With this program HUD provides
eligible homeless veterans with a Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV), while
the VA provides clinical case management and supportive services through its health
care system. The purpose of this evaluation synthesis is to assess the HUD VASH
program s effectiveness in targeting limited resources to the needs of homeless
veterans today, as well as to provide specific policy recommendations so as to
improve the overall taxpayer value of this program.

The Effect of World War One on People at Home Essay
The Effect of World War One on People at Home The people at home lives were
affected in a wide variety of ways during the First World War. Some people s lives
were altered for the good, where as some were altered for the bad. During the First
World War, a lot of people were needed in the army. This meant that volunteers
were required by their many hundreds. To influence this, propaganda was used in
the forms of pamphlets, posters, newspapers and by word of mouth. The source A1
(i) was a poster used for propaganda to make men volunteer for the army. About 54
million similar posters were created, but this was one of the most famous. It shows

The volunteering system was not only very inefficient; it was also not a very fair
system because you were not forced to join up. So in 1916 the government
decided to introduce conscription. A typical government conscription poster is
shown in source A4. It states that unmarried men must sign up to the army. Any
man who wished not to join up was labelled a conchie, or a conscientious objector.
Many of these people had religious beliefs which stated that thou shall not kill and
so they did not believe in war and killing people. These people helped out other
ways. Others thought that the war was only being fought for the Capitalists. These
people usually the communists, or the comrades , or the socialists. Source A5 was
written by a conscientious objector who managed to escape from prison in 1916.
He says that people should support the troops, if not in person, then in spirits. This
man was an absolutist who did not agree to war neither did he want anything to do
with it. The government frowned upon these people and threw them into prison
because they were scared of the working class uprising. While the government were
dealing with recruiting men, they were also being embarrassed by the shortages of
munitions. The newspapers soon let the people know about this scandal, which is a
rare example of anti government stories. In source B2 we are shown Lloyd George

Rwandan Genocide
Between April and June 1994 warfare between the Hutus and Tutsis people struck in
the East African country of Rwanda. To call it a tragedy would be an understatement
when faced with the estimated death count of one million Tutsis and moderate Hutus
over the span one hundred days. The genocide resulted from the desire to control and
obtain power within Rwandaand stemmed from a history of cultural and social class
conflict amongst the rival groups. This bloodshed proved to be one the most horrific
events in history.
The Tutsi people had joined the Rwanda population during the 1300 s. Before the
colonial era, Tutsis typically occupied the higher status in the social system and the
Hutus the lower. However, mobility on the social hierarchy... Show more content on

Motivation In Anthem By Ayn Rand
In the novel Anthem, by Ayn Rand, a collectivist society is suppressing a man

creates something truly special. His society has backtracked away from electricity.
They never knew electricity, or used it.. Equality created electricity, in the form of
a light box , or a light bulb. He is very excited to present the wonder to the council.
His primary motivation was not to benefit the society. Equality s primary motivation
of creating his invention was to prove himself, relieve his creative side, and to
become famous. From a young age, his teacher belittled him, telling him and others

Colored People by Henry Louis Gates Jr.
I feel there are many reasons that Henry Louis Gates Jr chose Colored People as
the title of his memoir. I think the word Colored in the title was used to group
everyone as a whole. The word Colored was also used to self identify different
races inside and out of Piedmont. I think he used People to say that everyone
matters no matter where you hail from. The word Colored and the word People
have two different meanings alone. But put the two together they become a
powerful piece to the novel. I feel that when you put Colored and People together it
gives off a thought to the reader that the book is only going to be about black people.
In the novel, Henry touches basis on more than just black people. Henry gave the
phrase Colored People a whole new meaning. In Henry s words Colored People
means: Accept me for who I am, despite my background.
Setting
Henry Louis Gates Jr. s novel, Colored People, took place in a small town.
Piedmont was the name of the small town in which mostly black people stayed. All
the black folk that stayed there were making ends meet. The men of the town were
all working the same job. This is because the novel was being told in the early and
mid 1900 s. Back when segregation was around and blacks and whites could not
work in the same space. This was also when TV and radio brought all black families
together as a whole. Back then the black people in Piedmont could not do anything
but dream about having lives like the black families

Technology Should Not Replace Gross Motor Play Introduction During the first

Japan is often recognized as a land of peace, beauty, and diverse landscapes and
climates that cannot be witnessed anywhere else on the planet. A majority of
Japanese citizens practice Shintoism, a polytheistic religion whose gods exist within
plants and animals. Because of this, an appreciation for nature is ingrained deep
into the foundation of Japan s values. This can be seen throughout the country s
entire history; much of its art and poetry has been focused solely on its natural
beauty. Sudden Shower Over Shin Ohashi Bridge and Atake is a famous Japanese
woodblock print by Utagawa Hiroshige published in 1857, one of many that shows
an appreciation for Japan s beautiful landscapes. The print belongs the ukiyo egenre
that emerged between the 17th and 19th century. Ukiyo e literally translates to
pictures of the floating world and the style dominated the art of Japan s Edo
Period. What began as a reflection of Japan s indulgent and hedonistic culture,
portraying subjects like beautiful women and extravagant scenes from the Kabuki
theater, gradually transitioned into capturing landscapes and the lives of average
people. Hiroshige was one of the pioneers of this transition with his famed One
Hundred Famous Views of Edo, a 119 piece series that features celebrated
landscapes in his hometown of Edo, known as Tokyo today, and his last great
success before his death. Sudden Shower Over Shin Ohashi Bridge and Atake is one
of the pieces that belong to his series.

The Clothing And Fashion Industry
Consumers in the Fashion Industry
The topic I chose to write about was the clothing and fashion industry. Clothing is
something that everyone in modern society needs, and something that a few
consumers care very much about. The number one thing clothing is used for,
besides covering and protecting our bodies, is to express our personalities,
socioeconomic status, and how we feel on a given day. Because the the
demographic for people who buy clothes is so large, it has a lot of variation. People
buy clothes of many different qualities and prices, or they make their own.
The reference work I have cited is The Berg Fashion Library. This is a very in depth
and detailed website about history, current events and trends in what people wear
around the world. Although, I don t think this encyclopedia has any information on
consumers themselves. The encyclopedia gives you resources and access to articles
on any clothing item, in any part of the the world, in any time period. Berg Fashion
Library does not give much analysis on the clothing items or history, it just presents
you resources that can give you more detailed information. The only objective of
this reference work is to give data about fashion history. The encyclopedia is very
relevant and has articles about the the most cutting edge trends. These articles do a
very good job giving a brief evaluation of the topics, while not conveying any
opinions about the fashion industry.
The web site I am evaluating is just style.com.
Analysis Of The Book Breaking The Land
Breaking the Land discusses three major components throughout the book; cotton,
tobacco, and the rice culture. Pete Daniel, the author, discusses the transformation of
these three subjects throughout history. The different agriculture crops are described
by explaining the environment that they are in and the difficulties they come across.
The book explains how the cropsand the environment have changed because of the
difficulties they have faced. Diseases, race, inflation and deflation of cropprices, laws,
and the economy are some of the main problems that helped transform the
environment of the crop industry. The book explains in great detail the challenges
that each crop undertook to become a more modern industry, along with the increase
of technology. Technology plays a large role in creating a more modern life for the
agricultureindustries. Daniel goes on to explain the new technology that is used
during the timeline of events for the development of agricultural crops. In Breaking
the Land , it is broken up into four different books. Each book is in chronological
order to when events happened in history. Every book has several chapters contained
in it that discusses the transformation of each crop. For example, book one: Three
Southern Commodity Cultures, 1880 1932 , contains three chapters. Each chapter
discusses a specific crop and the transformation during that time period. Each
individual chapter tells the story and background of that crop. Throughout each

War Between Europeans And Indians
Suspicion and hostility, branching from technological and cultural differences, as
well as, mutual feelings of being superior, have infused relations between Native
Americans and non Natives in North America. Intertribal conflicts among the Indians,
and nationalistic rivalries, lacking faith, and expansion desires on the part of non
natives worsened these tensions. The resulting white and native conflicts often took a
particularly bad turn and resulted in the near destruction of the native people(Native
American). War between Europeans and Indians was common back in the 1600s. In
1622, the Powhatans nearly wiped out the already struggling Jamestown colony.
Frustrated at the continuing conflicts, Nathaniel Bacon and a group of whites
destroyed the Pamunkey Indians before leading an unsuccessful revolt against
colonial authorities in 1676. Continuous wars also plagued early Dutch colonies in
New York. In New England, Puritan forces wiped out the Pequots in 1636, a
campaign s intensity that seemed to shape the future. Following attacks inspired by
King Philip against English settlements sparked a concerted response from the New
England Confederation. Employing Indian partnerships and a scorched earth policy,
the colonists nearly wiped out the Narragansetts, Wampanoag, and Nipmuck tribes
in 1675 and1676. A major Pueblo revolt also threatened New Mexico in 1680
(European). Indians were also a key factor in the rivalries among France, Spain, and
England. In King William s, Queen
Who Is Wendell Phillips An Agitator
Wendell Phillips, a man believed to be completely overlooked and
underappreciated in his influence during this period of American history. Phillips
played an immense role in the abolition movement before and even after the Civil
War; Hofstadter goes on to state that Phillips is seen by many historians as only a
dull witted extremist. Titled Wendell Phillips: The Patrician as Agitator, chapter 6
of The American Political Tradition, Hofstadter encompasses brilliantly Phillips s
influence and importance that was portrayed by his radicalism and his views of
the democratic system. Phillips was indeed a patrician, which is someone who is
classified as an elitist part of society. Born into a wealthy family, Phillips was in no
circumstance unprivileged; however, he greatly valued the constitution and its basic
principles for all. Furthermore Phillips was an agitator. Hofstadter didn t give
chapter 6 this title just because it sounded nice, but to examine both adjectives and
to convey how he believes they coincide. Thusly he wants to show how
revolutionary the idea of a patrician being an agitator was in Phillips s time.... Show

institution of higher learning in the Western world. He is widely considered the most
pivotal figure in the development of philosophy, especially the Western tradition.[2]
Unlike nearly all of his philosophical contemporaries, Platos entire Е“uvre is believed
to have survived intact for over 2,400 years.[3]
Along with his teacher, Socrates, and his most famous student, Aristotle, Plato laid
the very foundations of Western philosophy and science.[4] Alfred North Whitehead
once noted: the safest general characterization of the European philosophical tradition
is that it consists of a series of footnotes to Plato. [5] In addition to being a
foundational figure for Western science, philosophy, and mathematics, Plato has also
often been cited as one of the founders of Western religion and spirituality.[6]

What Is Paine s Argument Against The Declaration Of...
Common Sense
In Common Sense, Thomas Paine writes about why he thinks America should
become independent from Britain. His thesis is that monarchy, being fundamentally
flawed, is a bad form of government and that America should rebel against the king
and become an independent nation. The author does achieve his goal when the
Declaration of Independence is signed in the summer of 1776. Thomas Paine
supported his premise at the beginning of the novel by setting up an imaginary
situation where a small group of people were alone somewhere away from
civilization. He says that society will be their first thought and that eventually they
will begin to relax in their duty and attachment to each other, creating the need for
laws and people to enforce them. They will initially form a system of regulations, but
as they increase so will public concerns and it will be too inconvenient for them all to
meet up and talk through the issues. The natural solution will be to elect
representatives who share the concerns of the people who elected them. In other

Exposing children to Foreign Languages A gift parents can give children that money
can t buy (Judy Willis). This powerful quote insists that teaching a child a foreign
language is better than any gift that can be bought. It implies that money cannot buy
children the benefits of learning another language. Exposing children to foreign
languages will benefit them in the future by improving their overall brainactivity and
development, making them more culturally aware individuals, and by making it
easier for them to obtain a job.
There are many positive effects that introducing a second language can have on a
child s brain development and activity. This experience improves the child s
cognitive development as well as other brain functions. According to certified
neurologist, Judy Willis, many studies have found that children who have been
exposed to a foreign language for five to ten years have greater focus and cognition.
These benefits are primarily due to the higher levels of activity in the prefrontal
cortex network. Willis also states that executive functions in the brains of bilingual
children also tend to be more active. These networks boost goal oriented behaviors.
Individuals who have grown up bilingual are also proven to perform better
academically, are better at problem solving, do better on standardized tests, and
become more confident individuals compared to monolingual individuals. Another

has recently become well known due to a movie being released about the
operation. The killing of Osama Bin Ladin is probably the most popular case that
the CIA had completed due to its significance in a time when the United States was

Comparison Of Veterinary And Human Anesthesia
In Veterinary and human anesthesia: an overview of some parallels and contrasts
Clark reports that veterinary anesthesia is a specialty (Clark). If this part of
veterinary medicine is important enough to form a specialty based on it, why are
we not doing more to ensure that all animals undergoing anesthesia are receiving
proper care? This specialty requires veterinarians to undergo at least one to two
more years of training after graduating from veterinary school and to have a three
year residency to be eligible to sit for boards and to obtain this specialty (Clark).
With this much work and effort being put in by some veterinarians to train in
anesthesia, it would seem that many people feel that this is an important area to focus
on in veterinary medicine. If this is true, why are some people ignoring the need for
better anesthetic care for animals? According to Clark this is in part due to the cost
of providing medical care to animals. (Clark). While this might be true that
veterinary care can be expensive to the clinic, this could still be improved by having
at least one trained and certified technician on the staff who is responsible for
monitoring anesthesia. Animals undergoing an anesthetic procedure are often
grouped into different classes of risk based what the veterinarian feels the animals
overall health is and how necessary he feels the surgeryis to the animal s survival and
what he feels the expected outcome of the surgery might be. Carter states

There s not much similarity in the themes of these books except that in both books,
God s grace is plainly shown. That is about where the similarities end. From there,
Ezekiel s theme is focused on the condemnation of Israel for their sin. Ezekiel is also
a prophecy that the fall of Jerusalem and the Babylonian captivity are necessary
measures for the God of grace to employ if He is to correct his disobedient people and

The difference, however, is when we look at how. In Ezekiel, Christ is pictured in
parables such as the tender sprig which is very similar, and thus reminds us, of the
Branch from Isaiah 11, Jeremiah 23 and 33, and also many other places throughout
scripture. Ezekiel also talks in prophecies when it speaks of Messiah as the King with
the right to rule.
In Daniel, you see Christ in many different aspects. You see Him in the fiery
furnace that protected Daniel s three friends. You see Him also in the lion s den,
preserving his servant Daniel. In this book he is portrayed through a vision as the
great stone who will crush the nations of the world, which points us to the final day
when He comes again.
Canonical Significance: The canonical significance of Ezekiel is that the Holy God
will be worshipped again by a remnant. The canonical significance of Daniel is to
show God s sovereignty in history and prophesy.

Barbie Dolls Have Changed
How a childhood object has changed over time and how it is related to broader
contexts.
In this essay I am going to be discussing and assessing how the Barbie Doll which
is a toy for children, mainly for girls has changed over the years since the 1900 s to
the present generation and how this relates to other larger contexts like class, gender,
race, disability and faith. Below I have inserted 2 pictures of the Barbie doll, One
from 1959 and one from 2010, which is fairly recent. 1950 s: The first Barbie Doll
2010 Barbie Doll(s)
I strongly believe that the Barbie Dolls have changed hugely since the 1900 s. This
is because throughout my research I found that Barbie dolls have changed a lot
since the 57 years gone by until present times. Initially, Barbie had curly bangs as a

I believe that Barbie has changed massively over the years in skin colour, hair
colour and sizes. Piaget has created the theory of learning through play. He says
children engage themselves In imaginative play which means that if they see a
story or characters they are most likely to imitate them and what they do. When
children imitate others they develop a vocabulary which allows them to name the
world around them. This relates to dolls because if a child is given a doll which
moves and does things around a doll house like cleaning, a child will imitate that
around the house and act like a house wife like the doll. This shows that dolls are
created in that way to leave a image in the child s head on what a girl does when she
grows up, likewise how the dolls have changed, whilst children grow older they have
certain changes in them
Assisted Reproduction Technologies Pros And Cons
As the years, have progressed, the sensation for science has increased, as well as the
aspiration for technology. Because of this, many new ideas and innovation have been
brought to us, such as the development of ART, Assisted Reproductive Technology.
The use of Assisted Reproductive Technologies has been brought to allow
pregnancies to be effectuated when the natural way is not option. The interest for
unnatural pregnancybegan in the early 1800s when John Hunter, a Scottish surgeon
inseminated a woman with her husband s sperm. Due to this incidence, later in the
late 1800s, the idea for sperm donation sprouted. From there on, the curiosity for
other ways to succeed in unnatural pregnancies devolved rapidly. One of these ways
was the In Vitro... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Frank H. Pierek 340). During the research, it was concluded that over 1500 of the
interfiled men had become accessible to a form of Assisted Reproductive
Technologies. In addition, over 60% of them, their problem of their infertility was
revealed, and better treatment which was focused on their own specific situation
specifically was given. Additionally, for the other percentage of men, a rational
andrological treatment was given. Over all, the data was able to prove that different
types of Assisted Reproductive Technologies can allow for people to have a better
understanding of what is occurring in their bodies before going through a procedure,
rather than only believing that ART could just be
Volunteering Events At Csueb. For The Volunteering...
Volunteering Events at CSUEB For the volunteering assignment, I chose two
volunteering events: the Norcal Community College Counselor Breakfast and the
CSUEB Education Summit. Both of these events are being held on the California
State East Bay Campus. They are both classified as special events, and they are both
hosted by the Prospective Student Services Department. Although each of these

  • 2. Araby tone Araby, a short story from James Joyce s Dubliners, recounts an unnamed boy s transition from childhood into adulthood, from a life filled with fantasy to all the harsh realities of life in Ireland under British rule. The narrator of the story is the older version of the protagonist, and as a result the prose seems far from what a child would write a preadolescent would not display such self awareness and understanding. Further examination of the text shows that the narrator is actually embarrassed and chagrined by the confused adoration towards his friend s older sister that marked his childhood, creating a reflective yet fatuous tone that is developed through the utilization of literary devices such as dramatic diction, simile,... However, the image is distorted by a rusty bicycle pump that the boy finds. He later sarcastically describes Mrs. Mercer s collecting used stamps as having some pious purpose and notices two men [...] counting money on a salver, an action that would not be permitted in a church as it would be viewed as crass and unholy. Ironically, the boy himself is guilty of twisting his religion to suit his own purposes. He believes that his love for Mangan s sister is pure and holy, as shown by his attempt to deify her in his description of her as being not only defined by light, but also touched discreetly by the lamplight at the curved neck, which is reminiscent of the Virgin Mary in Christian iconography. The religious imagery in Araby effectively showcases the narrator s aversion to apotheosis and the practice of placing a person on such a pedestal. By presenting the information in such a way, the narrator once again conveys the fatuous tone by appearing regretful of what he believes to be his perversion of religion as a child and by portraying his actions as foolish and unreasonable. This is accomplished by contrasting the perversion of religion surrounding the protagonist with his deification of the object of his adulation. Because the narrator of Araby is more mature and wiser than the

As history can be very influential to a nation, by the way we recall and decipher those history facts that give us a feeling of place and self as a nation. However we should recall how those authentic flashbacks can, and regularly are, controlled for different political influences; because one event historycan have a change in the country forever. Due to these events we know we cannot trust the government because stuff like this can still be happening under the table and we wouldn t know, therefore that would me the conspiracy is still kept going to a certain extend. A Brief Look at Child Welfare Child Welfare can be quantified in many ways some of the factors commonly considered are weather children have enough to eat and a safe place to live, receive adequate healthcare and edification, and are liberated from impecuniosity abuse, and exploitation. Moreover because the treatment of children in any society is shaped by that society s standards of living, resources, and postures about children s rights and, responsibilities child welfare varies dramatically around the world. If Ryanair s competitors possessed the same valuable strategy of low fares, it is not a source of competitive advantage anymore unless it is rare. This is because all of these airline industries have the capability to exploit that low fare strategy in the same way. In this case, Ryanair Holding focus on control their cost by using a single model aircraft which allows minimization of training and maintenance costs, efficient management of spare parts inventory, and more flexible scheduling of flight crews. This cost control is uncommon which is rare relative to other competitors in the short run. But in the long run, Ryanair Holding would not be rare forever since competitors which are other airline services would be using the same strategy to compete with Ryanair Holdings. Thus, it would then give customers more choices to pick. Infact, competitors like British Airways and Air France would be able to develop the latest or better version of low cost business level strategy than what Ryanair has offered. Therefore, this strategy then would not be rare

The scent of freshly cut grass as it tickles your nose, the sound of the ball whooshing through the air from the mound to the catchers glove, and the sudden crack of the bat as it knocks the little leather ball hundreds of feet out into the park. All of my senses are in full joyous glee when I am surrounded by that environment. Unfortunately, I only got to enjoy this atmosphere from the bleachers. However, it never slipped his mind that I was upset with all my sicknesses and that I couldn t actually do any of the things we would talk about. It was then Clayton would fill my young heart with the ideas of being in sports without being on the field. The theory arose that, I could become a statistician for baseball since math came so easy to me as a subject. We would listen to ESPN Radio and he said I could be like our favorite sports radio analyst, Colin Cowherd. I may even choose to get into writing and become a sports journalist for a newspaper or magazine or even interview my favorite athletes on Television. These new dreams that Clayton inspired in me gave me new goals and purpose in

  • 10. What Is The History Of Classical Music During The Baroque... The Baroque Period lasted from 1600 to 1750. This period is where studies of classical music began. During this time period, artists would make their music as intricate as possible to make it sound as elegant as possible. This was a great time for royalty and nobility. The wealthiest households would hire musicians, but depending on the household they might would have an entire orchestra. The households would hire composers to compose songs for parties, balls, and ceremonies. The church would also hire musicians, because of the general public s love for music. (Craig) Oratorios were started in the Baroque Period. Oratorios are sung, much like operas, except for they were about biblical stories. The only main difference is that oratorios are unstaged performances. Oratorios were usually long performances, lasting for several hours. Churches would normally have them for the public. Churches would also have Cantatas. Cantatas were basically the same thing as operas, but they were much shorter. They were usually as long as a church service. • 14. The Main Goal Of An Artist Similar to all great writers and innovators, the main goal of an artist is to spark a creative perspective in the audience. Sarah Ruhl s oddly blunt play, Eurydice, was meant to open up our minds and create an outlook that has never been achieved before. Her intent was to keep us on our toes and read between the lines in order to find the hidden truths in each line. The simplicity of the script was meant to be a little strange and dull, but by doing this Ruhl entered a realm of playwriting that has not been accomplished before. Usually, in the performances we watch we are bombarded with long, complex sentences that leave the audienceconfused. The vocabulary used is always either outdated or too complicated for many people to understand quickly. However, in this place Ruhl took the opposite approach and chose short and simple sentences, leaving more room for interpretation. By making each line somewhat awkward and dull, Ruhl engages the audiences attention in order to make sense of the words. Many factors could have motivated Ruhl to write her play in such fashion. For example, when I was reading the playI connected her style of writing to artists and poets of the 1960 s, like Bob Dylan and Jim Morrison, who had such a beautiful yet simple play on words. Her outlandish sentences probably made no sense to someone with a closed mind, this related directly to how the Dylan and Morrison were perceived in their time as well. One benefit of the hierarchical structure of DNS is that it is possible to have two hosts with the same host names that are in different locations in the hierarchy. Another benefit of the DNS hierarchy structure is that workload for name resolution is distributed across many different resources, through the use of DNS caching, DNS zones, and delegation of authority through the use of appropriate resource records. DHC is an open, industry standard protocol that reduces the complexity of administering networks based on TCP/IP. It provides a mechanism for automatically assigning IP addresses and reusing them when they are no longer needed by the system to which they were assigned. It also provides mechanisms

This number represents approximately 11% of the entire homeless adult population in the United States. Of those homeless veterans, 64% were reported to be sleeping in an emergency shelter or transitional housing and 36% were living on the streets or other places not meant for human habitation. Today, the federal government has many programs targeted to end veteran s homelessness; however, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) currently has only one program offering a permanent supportive housing solution for homeless veterans the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Supportive Housing program (HUD VASH). With this program HUD provides eligible homeless veterans with a Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV), while the VA provides clinical case management and supportive services through its health care system. Any man who wished not to join up was labelled a conchie, or a conscientious objector. I think the word Colored in the title was used to group everyone as a whole. The word Colored was also used to self identify different races inside and out of Piedmont. I think he used People to say that everyone matters no matter where you hail from. The word Colored and the word People have two different meanings alone. But put the two together they become a powerful piece to the novel. I feel that when you put Colored and People together it gives off a thought to the reader that the book is only going to be about black people. In the novel, Henry touches basis on more than just black people. Henry gave the phrase Colored People a whole new meaning. In Henry s words Colored People means: Accept me for who I am, despite my background. Setting Henry Louis Gates Jr. s novel, Colored People, took place in a small town. Piedmont was the name of the small town in which mostly black people stayed. All the black folk that stayed there were making ends meet. The men of the town were all working the same job. This is because the novel was being told in the early and mid 1900 s. Back when segregation was around and blacks and whites could not work in the same space. This was also when TV and radio brought all black families together as a whole. Back then the black people in Piedmont could not do anything but dream about having lives like the black families

Analysis Of Sudden Shower Over Shin-Ohashi Bridge And Atake Japan is often recognized as a land of peace, beauty, and diverse landscapes and climates that cannot be witnessed anywhere else on the planet. A majority of Japanese citizens practice Shintoism, a polytheistic religion whose gods exist within plants and animals. Because of this, an appreciation for nature is ingrained deep into the foundation of Japan s values. This can be seen throughout the country s entire history; much of its art and poetry has been focused solely on its natural beauty. Sudden Shower Over Shin Ohashi Bridge and Atake is a famous Japanese woodblock print by Utagawa Hiroshige published in 1857, one of many that shows an appreciation for Japan s beautiful landscapes. The print belongs the ukiyo egenre that emerged between the 17th and 19th century. Ukiyo e literally translates to pictures of the floating world and the style dominated the art of Japan s Edo Period. What began as a reflection of Japan s indulgent and hedonistic culture, portraying subjects like beautiful women and extravagant scenes from the Kabuki theater, gradually transitioned into capturing landscapes and the lives of average people. Hiroshige was one of the pioneers of this transition with his famed One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, a 119 piece series that features celebrated landscapes in his hometown of Edo, known as Tokyo today, and his last great success before his death. Clothing is something that everyone in modern society needs, and something that a few consumers care very much about. The number one thing clothing is used for, besides covering and protecting our bodies, is to express our personalities, socioeconomic status, and how we feel on a given day. Because the the demographic for people who buy clothes is so large, it has a lot of variation. People buy clothes of many different qualities and prices, or they make their own. The reference work I have cited is The Berg Fashion Library. This is a very in depth and detailed website about history, current events and trends in what people wear around the world. Although, I don t think this encyclopedia has any information on consumers themselves. The encyclopedia gives you resources and access to articles on any clothing item, in any part of the the world, in any time period. Berg Fashion Library does not give much analysis on the clothing items or history, it just presents you resources that can give you more detailed information. The only objective of this reference work is to give data about fashion history. The encyclopedia is very relevant and has articles about the the most cutting edge trends. These articles do a very good job giving a brief evaluation of the topics, while not conveying any opinions about the fashion industry. The web site I am evaluating is just style.com.

His thesis is that monarchy, being fundamentally flawed, is a bad form of government and that America should rebel against the king and become an independent nation. The author does achieve his goal when the Declaration of Independence is signed in the summer of 1776. Thomas Paine supported his premise at the beginning of the novel by setting up an imaginary situation where a small group of people were alone somewhere away from civilization. He says that society will be their first thought and that eventually they will begin to relax in their duty and attachment to each other, creating the need for laws and people to enforce them. They will initially form a system of regulations, but as they increase so will public concerns and it will be too inconvenient for them all to meet up and talk through the issues. This specialty requires veterinarians to undergo at least one to two more years of training after graduating from veterinary school and to have a three year residency to be eligible to sit for boards and to obtain this specialty (Clark). With this much work and effort being put in by some veterinarians to train in anesthesia, it would seem that many people feel that this is an important area to focus on in veterinary medicine. If this is true, why are some people ignoring the need for better anesthetic care for animals? According to Clark this is in part due to the cost of providing medical care to animals. (Clark). While this might be true that veterinary care can be expensive to the clinic, this could still be improved by having at least one trained and certified technician on the staff who is responsible for monitoring anesthesia. Animals undergoing an anesthetic procedure are often grouped into different classes of risk based what the veterinarian feels the animals overall health is and how necessary he feels the surgeryis to the animal s survival and what he feels the expected outcome of the surgery might be. • 43. Daniel Vs Ezekiel Essay Ezekiel and Daniel are alike and different in many ways. Yes, both were Major Prophets called by God. The history we learn about these prophets should teach us many things that we as Christians are called to know. Name: The names Daniel and Ezekiel are similar in the fact that they were both taken from Hebrew and both are named after their authors. The difference is apparent when we look at the meaning of the names. Daniel means God is Judge or God is my Judge , whereas Ezekiel means God strengthens or strengthened by God . Theme: There s not much similarity in the themes of these books except that in both books, God s grace is plainly shown. That is about where the similarities end. From there, Ezekiel s theme is focused on the condemnation of Israel for their sin. Ezekiel is also a prophecy that the fall of Jerusalem and the Babylonian captivity are necessary measures for the God of grace to employ if He is to correct his disobedient people and ... In Ezekiel, Christ is pictured in parables such as the tender sprig which is very similar, and thus reminds us, of the Branch from Isaiah 11, Jeremiah 23 and 33, and also many other places throughout scripture. Ezekiel also talks in prophecies when it speaks of Messiah as the King with the right to rule. In Daniel, you see Christ in many different aspects. You see Him in the fiery furnace that protected Daniel s three friends. You see Him also in the lion s den, preserving his servant Daniel. In this book he is portrayed through a vision as the great stone who will crush the nations of the world, which points us to the final day when He comes again. Canonical Significance: The canonical significance of Ezekiel is that the Holy God will be worshipped again by a remnant. The canonical significance of Daniel is to show God s sovereignty in history and prophesy. Structure and

He says children engage themselves In imaginative play which means that if they see a story or characters they are most likely to imitate them and what they do. When children imitate others they develop a vocabulary which allows them to name the world around them. This relates to dolls because if a child is given a doll which moves and does things around a doll house like cleaning, a child will imitate that around the house and act like a house wife like the doll. This shows that dolls are created in that way to leave a image in the child s head on what a girl does when she grows up, likewise how the dolls have changed, whilst children grow older they have certain changes in them
