Customer Based Brand Equity for Global Brands: A Multinational Approach
Eda Atilgan Serkan Akinci Safak Aksoy Erdener Kaynak
ABSTRACT. Focusing on the dimensions and measurement, this study is based on the concept of
brand equity for global brands with empirical evidence from three economically and culturally
dissimilar countries USA, Turkey, and Russia. The brand equity for global brands can be measured
under four basic dimensions: perceived quality, brand loyalty, brand associations, and brand trust.
Emergence of brand trust as a new dimension instead of brand awareness complies ... Show more

Although it is apparent that customer based brand equity has multiple dimensions, there is no general
agreement in current marketing literature as to the nature and content of these dimensions. Previous
research has proposed two (e.g., Faircloth, Capella, Alford, 2001; Keller, 1993), three (e.g., Han
Collins, 2002; Netemeyer et al., 2004), four (e.g., Aaker, 1991; Yoo et al., 2000), five (e.g., Lassar,
Mittal, Sharma, 1995), and even eight (e.g., Vazquez, Del Rio, Iglesias, 2002) dimensions. However,
many of these brand equity dimensions have not been systematically measured or validated within a
nomological framework (Netemeyer et al., 2004). For example, the existence and function of trust
have not been fully investigated within the context of brand equity. On the globalization front,
branding has received increasing attention from marketing academicians. The two prominent reasons
for this are increased cross border population mobility and electronic mobility, both of which
contributed to faster transfer of ideas and a global convergence in consumer tastes and values (Quelch,
1999). Global brands, as defined by Aaker and Joachimsthaler (1999), are those brands whose
positioning, advertising strategy, personality, look, and feel are in most respects the same from one
country to another. Reviewing the top 10 global brands, Quelch identified

4 Elements the Wars Essay
The Wars: Four Elements It was the ancient Greek philosopher, Empedocles, who first established the
four elements: earth, water, air and fire. He also stated that everything in the world is structured by
and rooted in these four elements. However during times of conflict and violence, humans begin to
disturb this harmony. When this happens, the elements stop representing life and start representing a
form of destruction. Throughout Robert Ross s journey in The Wars, Timothy Findley exemplifies this
theory by displaying the four elements in two diverse ways: benevolent and harmful. Earth is said to
be the feminine element. It is perceived to be nurturing, stable, and full of endurance. The planet itself
is a ball of life in which one is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This comes to no surprise. Like water, life is subject to change. Like water, life is shaped by the places
it exists in: the earth, the environment, and the ecosystems. Throughout his voyage, Robert Ross finds
himself in the presence of snow numerous times. For instance, it snows during Rowena s funeral, All
the time the minister eulogized and all the time they prayed, it snowed (Finley 18) Robert also stands
in the snow at the train station, much like Mrs. Ross let the snow beat down on her face. Each of these
events marks a point of permanent change. Everyone is able to imagine the scene where the hero looks
down and the town below him is awash in flames. Fire is the agent of destruction; symbolism of both
chaos and war. Burning everything in its path, it brings nothing but devastation. Fire storms raged
along the front. Men were exploded where they stood blown apart by the combustion (Findley 137)
Staying true to this depiction, fire takes the lives of many during the war, including Robert himself.
While trying to save the horses, Roberts get caught in the barn and the roof went up in seconds like a
tinder box. (Finley 212) Although the flames claimed the lives of many, at times they also helped give
Robert peace at mind. During Robert s stay at Desole, he receives his kit bag which includes a picture
of Rowena. He decides to burn the picture and it is

Comparison Of Heroism In El Dorado
When one thinks of heroism, they tend to think of great acts of bravery, such as when someone goes
into battle against a beast and when it prevents some type of catastrophic tragedy from occurring. At
least that is what one tends to think of when referring to the act of heroism in literature. However,
there is also a different, less glorified version of heroism that is sometimes expressed in literature, but
is present in our daily lives. This form of heroism is deeply connected to the human experience in
accomplishing a life s purpose. Edgar Alan Poe s El Dorado shows a speaker who views a challenge
and makes it his life mission to go after this accolade no matter what the odds are. While, a poem
called The Lotus Eaters by Alfred Lord Tennyson shows the direct opposite in our human nature
depicting a story of those who rather settle for comfort. One is focused on the optimistic possibility of
the risk they are taking and the other is focused on the pessimistic possibility as to why they rather not
take the risk. When analyzing the psychology behind heroism, the key difference is that the knight in
Edgar Alan Poe s poem was optimistic about becoming a hero, while in Alfred Lord Tennyson s poem
the sailors completely eliminated that from being an option. Those who are optimistic about achieving
a goal have at least a chance at reaching that point, however those who are pessimistic only find
themselves with one outcome and can never reach the ultimate goal. The

Wonder Woman And Superman
The most famous heroine of all time, says DC Entertainment. Wonder Woman has it all, from beauty
to brains to brawn. She was known as Diana, the Princess of the Amazons, before she became known
as Wonder Woman. She is similar to male superheroes, such as Superman, in many ways, but there are
definitely differences. I think we can all agree that the most obvious difference is Wonder Woman is a
girl. She teaches love, and she fights for peace. She doesn t fight unless it is necessary. She stands for
feminism and represents an evolving female. Wonder Woman was the Princess of the Amazons. She
was born and raised on what is known as Paradise Island. This is where she learned how to fight like a
warrior. She received her powers from the Greek gods. Once she received the powers, she decided to
go to America to help fight against the criminals and villains in the world. Superman was from a
planet called Krypton. His dad sent him to Earth on a rocket ship in order to save him from the attack
on their planet. Upon arriving to Earth, Superman gained power after absorbing the yellow sun rays.
As his powers grew stronger, he started to utilize them in a positive way. All superheroes have super
abilities. Some of the abilities Wonder Woman and Superman have in common are super strength,
super speed, durability, healing power, stamina, and enhanced senses. They can anticipate the next
move of their enemy. Although many superheroes also share these basic capabilities, they have

A Consensus On Our Policy Analysis Framework
In this paper I will be discussing how our class came to a consensus on our policy analysis framework.
To understand what we are attempting to accomplish, you need to understand the denotation of policy
analysis. Policy analysis is a technique used in public administration so individuals can evaluate and
scrutinize policies. Policy analysis is not only limited to policy s that are already enacted, policy
analysis can be used to analyze perspective policy s. There are already a handful of policy analysis
frameworks available for use. These include: Chambers 2009, Gilbert and Terrell 2009, Popple and
Leighninger 2004, and Dobelstein 2003. Many of the frameworks are heavily influenced by the work
of Eveline Burns, who was prevalent in the 1940 s and 1950 s. While these frameworks would have
been suitable to use for our analysis our class chose to create our own framework to help with
analysis. In these next few paragraphs I will explain how and why we chose what we did. The first
part of our policy analysis framework that we made was the goals and objectives section. We took this
specific concept from Chambers framework, although many of the other frameworks also use this
concept. The class came to a consensus as to what the definition would mean specifically. We all
chose to measure the policy s intended impact, as well as the policy s actual impact. We also agreed on
that participation in the program helps as a stepping stone for these individuals. What we mean by this

Economic And Political Tensions Of The South China Sea
Economic and political tensions are rising in the South China Sea, part of the Pacific Ocean stretching
from Singapore to the Philippines to South East Asia. Recently, countries including the various
Southeast Asian countries as well as China claimed territory in the South China Sea. As countries
become increasingly intimidated by these new claims, the United States is stepping in, which only
causes tensions to increase. Now the South China Sea is a battleground for the resources it holds, and
one who studies Chinese history and its interactions with the west can see the reasons why China is
compelled to claim territory, and why the West, specifically the United States, feels threatened by
these claims. The South China Sea has been a key in global trade as well as supplying recourses. In
fact, Roughly two thirds of South Korea s energy supplies, nearly sixty percent of Japan s and Taiwan
s energy supplies, and eighty percent of China s crude oil imports come through the South China Sea.
Not only this, but, the South China Sea has proven oil reserves of seven billion barrels, and an
estimated 900 trillion cubic feet of natural gas (business insider). Given this, it s not surprising that
China, emerging from isolationism, is rebuilding its economy by claiming pre existing islands and
recently manmade islands in the South China Sea to extend their territory, recourse access. Besides the
access to raw materials, much of Southeast Asia ad China is grappling over the South

Street Vending
Abstract
Various factors influence people s choice of trading location. This paper analyses why street vendors
despite the provision of formal market infrastructure still decide to trade from the streets. Theories of
the informal economy were adopted to get insights into the issues of street vending. Based on survey
results the study establishes that for street vendors accessibility of customers is a key consideration
and they strategically locate on the streets to avoid formalisation costs such as rent, taxes and licences.
Whereas for market traders selling from the formal market, a secure and clean environment is
important. Therefore, policies of the informal economy should take into account the nuances and

There were designated places where one would litter and refuse collection was order of the day. With
wonderful vegetation in the city s river banks that made the towns look green and beautiful, it was
everybody s wish to stay in town.
As years went by, the situation slowly changed, the beauty dramatically lost and the cleanliness
completely gone. Today, litter is everywhere, and surely an eyesore. The available rivers in our cities
that people used to be proud of, now have no water and are a source of pungent smells following piles
of waste, which is quite hazardous to the health of humans as well as plants and animals.
There could be many causes to this change and different people would give different reasons.
One reason had been the coming in of street vending. Though it would be difficult to tell how vending
slowly became part of our living in cities, it must be acknowledged that this trend led to unplanned
expanded settlements. Many people trekked from the rural areas to settle in towns and cities with a
belief that an available occupation was on the street.
The streets were therefore full of people and activities, which resulted in lack of proper sanitation
facilities and overcrowded conditions. This also posed a high risk of communicable diseases and
caused additional pressure on management of waste. Our towns and cities today

The Ford Mustang s First Phony Car
The Ford Mustang is widely credited with launching the pony car segment, appropriately named for
this trend setting steed. But two weeks prior to its April 17, 1964, launch, the Chrysler Corporation
introduced the Plymouth Barracuda, what quickly became one of the Mustang s top competitors.
While some insist the Barracuda was America s first pony car, on closer inspection a compelling
argument can be made that it was not.
A New Segment for Young Drivers
Sport coupes weren t anything new when the Ford Mustang made an early debut for the 1965 model
year. What was different with the Mustang and similar models was its relatively compact size,
featuring a long hood, a short rear deck and available small V8 engines.

But on closer inspection, the original Mustang shares much with another model, notably the Ford
Falcon.
Indeed, when the Mustang was designed, it was derived from the Falcon s platform, although there are
distinct differences in sheet metal, wheelbase size, width and height, along with standard front bucket
seats. Further, the Mustang offered a three on the floor manual transmission to the Falcon s three
speed automatic. Similarities included the Mustang s standard 200 cubic foot inline six engine with a
one barrel carburetor (optional in the Falcon), steering, rear suspension, and differential.
The Mustang s options list was what set this model further apart from the Falcon (as well as the
Barracuda), including items which define the original steed best in most people s eyes, namely a 271
horsepower V8, four speed manual transmission, special handling package, limited slip differential,
and front disc brakes. These features along with unique exterior styling and interior layout differences
underscore that Ford took greater care to separate the Mustang from the Falcon than did Plymouth
with the Barracuda and Valiant.

Pros And Cons Of Homeland Security
The United States border stretches for thousands of miles of harsh desert and forest landscape,
between two oceans, over lakes and rivers and deals with the highest amount of immigrant traffic in
the world. The U.S. has one of the toughest jobs in dealing with border security and the other issues
that arise from economic and political ramifications, to securing the land, sea and air borders from
unwanted entry by illegals immigrants, terrorists and contraband. Due to all these aspects, these make
it difficult for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to get a handle on securing our nations
border. Securing the border from illegal entry falls under the jurisdiction of the Custom Border
protection (CBP) and Border Patrol, which both agencies are under the large DHS umbrella. These
agencies were both created to handle these types of problems and have increased its work force
numbers after the 9/11 attacks. This is actually when the U.S. really started to look at borders and
locking them down from unwanted entry. With the creation of the Department of Homeland Security
in March of 2003, the increase in the amount of federal officers on the border has nearly doubled to
the sum of over 17,000 (DHS.gov, 2017). In this research paper, it will discuss the types of borders the
United States has, what are the threats associated with the border, and what strategies are in place with

the countries the company operates in. Due to the ongoing financial instability across the world, the
governments have increasingly encouraged retailers to create more jobs and opportunities for the local

is that it does provide a framewo rk within which we can discuss the significant changes that have
occurred across the global economy in recent decades. Apple s products are assembled in massive

majorly to some of the economic conditions discussed in this report. In section 1, Apple was able to
minimize labour cost in it production by setting up assembly plants in parts of Asia where labour are
cheaper compare to the US. In section 2, economic of scale was discussed as the cost advantages

Asymmetrical Relationship Between Government And...
In our reading of Illicit by Naim (2005), he suggests that the asymmetrical relationship between the
government and transnational crime groups create a struggle for the government to respond to these
transnational crimes at a decent rate (Naim,2005). On the other side our reading in McMafia: A
Journey Through the Global Criminal Underworld by Glenny (2009), suggest otherwise. Glenny
(2009) suggests that of a relationship between transnational crime groups, the public, the government
and this is a huge aspect to how the government responds to these factors. Both perspectives contain
their strengths and weaknesses, however the dependency theory by Glenny has more valid points than
that of the asymmetrical theory by Naim.
The asymmetrical theory by Naim says that the differences between the government and that of
transnational crime creates asymmetry (Naim,2005). Different government agencies are organized in a
hierarchical relationship that functions consistently from the top to the bottom (Naim,2005).
Governments must often follow legal processes that take up time and cost money. These governments
are forced to follow budget constraints, as well as legal and political reservation (Naim,2005). These
governments must operate within the control of their constitution. In comparison, these transnational
crime groups operate in less harsh structures, and are able to have more flexibility in their decision
making, as well as have unlimited funds available to them. The government s

Barn Burning Sarty Character Analysis
Blinded by Loyalty
The word loyalty can be broken down into its main term, loyal. To be loyal is to show dedication to an
ideology, individual, or group whom presumably all share the same beliefs. For instance, many people
use either Apple or Android cell phones. It is not that one is better than the other, it is usually just what
a person has grown up using. This can be described as brand loyal. In Barn Burning the family loyalty
theme is made evident throughout the story by bringing to light the dynamic in which the Snopes
family is expected to act with emphasis on a strong, harsh father and a son with underlying values that
differ from those of his family.
Faulkner begins the story by jumping right into a court room scene involving Abner ... Show more

Obeying is the basic principle in loyalty, one in which Sarty cannot differ between. For him loyalty is
pleasing his father no matter what the consequence. That is until he can break free from the oppression
of loyalty and finally see that it was loyalty that was blinding his true character. It is not until 20 years
later that Sarty realizes that society wanted only truth, justice (Faulkner 3). It was not society whom
demanded extreme loyalty, it was merely his family and more specifically his power hungry father.
Abner at one point in the story takes it as far as to tell Sarty to stick to his families own blood because
if not then he would have no one else to rely on (Faulkner 3). This shallow threat is yet another attack
on a boy that aims to please his father, but is so caught in the middle of his battle with loyalty and self
that he can be depicted as flying and being removed or suspended from the ground (Kirchdorfer 116).
Sarty wishes to escape his reality and be in a world where he doesn t have these bouts with loyalty
where his feet do not feel the floor under them (Faulkner

Tommy s life is finally turning around for the good. He s finally doing well in school, he s making

They ve been friends since his first day at McDaniel and he didn t know what to say or do around her,

Kirsten is still smiling and notices Tommy s mood change from anxious to smile and they both make

Tommy
Deal. I ll meet you in the stands after the game, but you have to come and watch. You re my lucky

Tommy gave her a smile and walked away. Kirsten stayed, still flabbergasted that Tommy had finally

While Kirsten got ready, Tommy went to his grandma s house to get set for the game.

played with his back turned to other musicians and his audience as if he had something to hide.
Sometimes he even got up and walked out in the middle of his gig which people found to be very
strange. Many of his songs had to do with the devil such as: Hell Hound on My Trail, Me and the
Devil Blues, and Crossroad Blues. Crossroad Blues was a song about when he went to meet the devil

Great Depression and everyone was looking to get paid in any way that they possibly could. Johnson
had heard that people had been getting paid to sing the blues and if they could play the guitar well

Lloyd George Contribution
David Lloyd George was a British prime minister during World War I. During this time period,
countries involved in the war went through rough times. This essay will discuss George s early life,
education, his political life, highlights of his ministership during the war, and his life after his
ministership and the war.
On Saturday the 17th day of January, in the year of our Lord, 1863, in Chorlton on Medlock,
Manchester, David Lloyd George was born to William George and Elizabeth Lloyd. Unfortunately,
when Lloyd George was only one, his dad died of pneumonia, forcing his family to move to his uncle
s house. George s uncle, Richard Lloyd, was both a shoemaker and a minister who served at local
churches. Along with being a shoemaker and a minister, Richard Lloyd was also a strong liberal who
influenced George in his political life and his later life. Shortly after moving, George went to
Llanystumdwy National School for educational purposes. After going to Llanystumdwy Nation
School for a few years, he and his family decided that tutors would have more of an educational
influence on him.
In 1884, Lloyd George became a solicitor; he started his practice in 1885. It was also this year he
became politically active; he had campaigned as a Liberal in the 1885 election. On January 24, 1888,
David Lloyd George married Margaret Owen. She was from a family of farmers. Lloyd George also
founded a newspaper, the Ugdorn Rhyddid, and won the Llanfrothen burial case. In 1889, he joined

At the end of the stock market game the stocks that I own was Amazon, Wal Mart, AutoZone, Ford,

These stocks had their ups and down throughout the whole game, but although they didn t have it that
bad . They may have gained money, but, they also, losted money at the same time. Also, there were
days where the stock price went up and down since there were people out there that was willing to pay
for the stock at a higher price, but there were others that didn t think it was worth it at a higher price.
Some of the other stocks that I owned at different times in the stock market game was AT T, Verizon,
Disney, Mcdonald s, Nikes, and Home Depot. I made the decision to get rid of these stocks because
they were having me to lose more money then I was gaining from them. At the end of having these
stocks I losted more money then what I bought them for.
Some of the stocks that I should have bought more of was Amazon, and Wal Mart. Even though I
should have bought more of these two stock; I didn t for one reason, because I wanted to see how the
other stocks will do. These two have made the most this past month than any of the others did. ...

Margaret Atwood s The Sound Of Music
The Sound of Music is an iconic musical theatre production, produced by Andrew Lloyd Webber, John
Frost, Davis Ian and The Really Useful Group, currently being performed at QPAC in Brisbane. The
musical features the uplifting true story of Maria and the Von Trapp families flight across the

by the collaboration of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, were Sixteen Going on Seventeen
, So Long, Farewell and My Favourite Things .

As the music speeds up so do they and vice versa as it slows. They are constantly moving keeping the
audience engaged, making use of the stage, they dance through the space in a range of ways. Their
moves are always sharp sudden and strong. The scene could have been enhanced by adding more
lighting techniques, to guide the audience through the scene, because it was neutral throughout the
whole scene and only dimmed to signal the end of the musical sequence.
A technique used commonly throughout the play is the use of the choreographic device of a canon, in
scenes that the Von Trapp children dance together. It makes a positive effect and enhances the quality
of the movement that much more. The actors interact with each other in a positive way and engage
with the audience by allowing us to be clear of what is happening with the story line.
Overall, I thought that production had chosen immensely talented cast who had amazing chemistry
with one another which was portrayed during the whole production, through their interactions.
Although the set was usually simple it was well crafted and always fit perfectly with the story singing,

each cup of ice cream, there are different styles of the ice cream, vanilla. Every tester tries one cup of

do not know what kinds of ice cream that are being served to them.

William Shaw s Pygmalion On The Myth Of Pygmalion And...
At the end of Bernard Shaw s Pygmalion, Eliza finds herself as a new and empowered woman.
Women in the 20th century are looked down upon. This is what happened to Eliza Doolittle. When
Eliza meets a man named Higgins, he makes assumptions about her intelligence based on her speech.
Higgins is wrong and fails to see that Eliza is one of the most intelligent characters in the play. Eliza s
ability to pick up speech and learn is high which is unusual for a woman of her social standing. In
some cases, Eliza is better at picking up speech patterns and learning than Higgins. This is rare based
on the fact that Eliza raised herself with no parental figures and no one to teach her. Eliza s
empowerment comes from the ignorance of the higher classes about the lower classes intelligence.
Bernard Shaw bases his play Pygmalion on the myth of Pygmalion and Galatea. In the original
Pygmalion myth, a sculptor creates a sculpture named Galatea, the two fall in love. In the first four
acts, we see Shaw follow this structure. A girl transforms from a flower girl to a lady and we get
shown a male lead who seems to fit the part of Pygmalion. The audience would expect the two to get
to together.
Although Shaw follows this pattern, he ends the play in the complete opposite of our expectations.
This heightens Eliza s triumph and could frustrate the audience. With minor changes into the final
scene, Pygmalion can get turned into a romance. Instead, Eliza has asserted her independence and

I had walked into the shop and was greeted by a funky scent. It smelled like a mixture of dirty old man
and dust. It didn t take me long before I figured out what the smell was, a small, wrinkly, old man
walked up to me, greeting me with what looked like a bowl filled with dusty candy that must of been
there for 20 years. Trying to be polite I took a candy and shoved it into my pocket knowing that I
would never eat it anyway. The old man must of recognized me because before I had said anything, he
slowly hobled to the back of the shop and came back with something in the basket on his walker. You
must be a member of the Ferguson family, the old man had said in a raspy quiet voice. In reply I said,

Christianity is one of the world s largest religions; however, Christianity is no longer a united religion
with one understanding of the faith. The numerous different interpretations of the Holy Bible and the

opposing side of the controversy; while Pentecostal belief is the literal interpretation of the Bible,
Baptist take a more loose understanding of the holy writings. Christianity originated in the first

Swimming Is The Best Physical Activity
Swimming Colby Homan

Mr. Brinkman
English 9
Did you know 65 percent of people in the United States do not know how to swim? If you think about
it, swimming is a great way to keep in shape. There are very few injuries in swimming and it keeps
you healthy. When you swim you are expanding your lung capacity, using most of your body, and
strengthening your muscles. Swimming is the best physical activity for you and your body. I hope you
learn something about my topic and maybe try it out sometime.
History
At first, swimming was one of the seven agilities of knights during the Middle Ages. The knights
swam with armor on them. If a person told a swimmer in Greece that they couldn t swim or they were
bad, it was taken as an insult. The Greeks didn t have swimming in the ancient Olympic Games, but
they liked to do it for fun. Swimming officially became a sport in the late 19th century. In 1896,
swimming first became an olympic event. (Marcus Sheridan, Riverpools and Spas) In the Olympics,
swimming was started just for men, but in 1912 they let the women participate. Australia is the most
passionate nation in the world for their swimming. Historians found items to hold this true: the crawl
stroke or the modern day freestyle was first done by the American Indians and the colonists used their
idea. The Cave of Swimmers has drawings of a people doing breaststroke. In Japan, swimming was
one of the noble skills of citizens. (Kyle Boshoff,

Customer Based Brand Equity Model Journal of Euromarketing, 18:115 132, 2009 Copyright c Taylor Francis Group, LLC ISSN: 1049 6483 print / 1528 6967 online DOI: 10.1080/10496480903022253 Customer Based Brand Equity for Global Brands: A Multinational Approach Eda Atilgan Serkan Akinci Safak Aksoy Erdener Kaynak ABSTRACT. Focusing on the dimensions and measurement, this study is based on the concept of brand equity for global brands with empirical evidence from three economically and culturally dissimilar countries USA, Turkey, and Russia. The brand equity for global brands can be measured under four basic dimensions: perceived quality, brand loyalty, brand associations, and brand trust. Emergence of brand trust as a new dimension instead of brand awareness complies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although it is apparent that customer based brand equity has multiple dimensions, there is no general agreement in current marketing literature as to the nature and content of these dimensions. Previous research has proposed two (e.g., Faircloth, Capella, Alford, 2001; Keller, 1993), three (e.g., Han Collins, 2002; Netemeyer et al., 2004), four (e.g., Aaker, 1991; Yoo et al., 2000), five (e.g., Lassar, Mittal, Sharma, 1995), and even eight (e.g., Vazquez, Del Rio, Iglesias, 2002) dimensions. However, many of these brand equity dimensions have not been systematically measured or validated within a nomological framework (Netemeyer et al., 2004). For example, the existence and function of trust have not been fully investigated within the context of brand equity. On the globalization front, branding has received increasing attention from marketing academicians. The two prominent reasons for this are increased cross border population mobility and electronic mobility, both of which contributed to faster transfer of ideas and a global convergence in consumer tastes and values (Quelch, 1999). Global brands, as defined by Aaker and Joachimsthaler (1999), are those brands whose positioning, advertising strategy, personality, look, and feel are in most respects the same from one country to another. • 5. 4 Elements the Wars Essay The Wars: Four Elements It was the ancient Greek philosopher, Empedocles, who first established the four elements: earth, water, air and fire. He also stated that everything in the world is structured by and rooted in these four elements. However during times of conflict and violence, humans begin to disturb this harmony. When this happens, the elements stop representing life and start representing a form of destruction. Throughout Robert Ross s journey in The Wars, Timothy Findley exemplifies this theory by displaying the four elements in two diverse ways: benevolent and harmful. Earth is said to be the feminine element. It is perceived to be nurturing, stable, and full of endurance. The planet itself is a ball of life in which one is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This comes to no surprise. Like water, life is subject to change. Like water, life is shaped by the places it exists in: the earth, the environment, and the ecosystems. Throughout his voyage, Robert Ross finds himself in the presence of snow numerous times. For instance, it snows during Rowena s funeral, All the time the minister eulogized and all the time they prayed, it snowed (Finley 18) Robert also stands in the snow at the train station, much like Mrs. Ross let the snow beat down on her face. Each of these events marks a point of permanent change. Everyone is able to imagine the scene where the hero looks down and the town below him is awash in flames. Fire is the agent of destruction; symbolism of both chaos and war. Burning everything in its path, it brings nothing but devastation. Fire storms raged along the front. Men were exploded where they stood blown apart by the combustion (Findley 137) Staying true to this depiction, fire takes the lives of many during the war, including Robert himself. While trying to save the horses, Roberts get caught in the barn and the roof went up in seconds like a tinder box. (Finley 212) Although the flames claimed the lives of many, at times they also helped give Robert peace at mind. During Robert s stay at Desole, he receives his kit bag which includes a picture of Rowena. He decides to burn the picture and it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Comparison Of Heroism In El Dorado When one thinks of heroism, they tend to think of great acts of bravery, such as when someone goes into battle against a beast and when it prevents some type of catastrophic tragedy from occurring. At least that is what one tends to think of when referring to the act of heroism in literature. However, there is also a different, less glorified version of heroism that is sometimes expressed in literature, but is present in our daily lives. This form of heroism is deeply connected to the human experience in accomplishing a life s purpose. Edgar Alan Poe s El Dorado shows a speaker who views a challenge and makes it his life mission to go after this accolade no matter what the odds are. While, a poem called The Lotus Eaters by Alfred Lord Tennyson shows the direct opposite in our human nature depicting a story of those who rather settle for comfort. One is focused on the optimistic possibility of the risk they are taking and the other is focused on the pessimistic possibility as to why they rather not take the risk. When analyzing the psychology behind heroism, the key difference is that the knight in Edgar Alan Poe s poem was optimistic about becoming a hero, while in Alfred Lord Tennyson s poem the sailors completely eliminated that from being an option. • 10. A Consensus On Our Policy Analysis Framework In this paper I will be discussing how our class came to a consensus on our policy analysis framework. To understand what we are attempting to accomplish, you need to understand the denotation of policy analysis. Policy analysis is a technique used in public administration so individuals can evaluate and scrutinize policies. Policy analysis is not only limited to policy s that are already enacted, policy analysis can be used to analyze perspective policy s. There are already a handful of policy analysis frameworks available for use. These include: Chambers 2009, Gilbert and Terrell 2009, Popple and Leighninger 2004, and Dobelstein 2003. Many of the frameworks are heavily influenced by the work of Eveline Burns, who was prevalent in the 1940 s and 1950 s. While these frameworks would have been suitable to use for our analysis our class chose to create our own framework to help with analysis. In these next few paragraphs I will explain how and why we chose what we did. The first part of our policy analysis framework that we made was the goals and objectives section. We took this specific concept from Chambers framework, although many of the other frameworks also use this concept. The class came to a consensus as to what the definition would mean specifically. We all chose to measure the policy s intended impact, as well as the policy s actual impact. We also agreed on that participation in the program helps as a stepping stone for these individuals. Economic And Political Tensions Of The South China Sea Economic and political tensions are rising in the South China Sea, part of the Pacific Ocean stretching from Singapore to the Philippines to South East Asia. Recently, countries including the various Southeast Asian countries as well as China claimed territory in the South China Sea. As countries become increasingly intimidated by these new claims, the United States is stepping in, which only causes tensions to increase. Now the South China Sea is a battleground for the resources it holds, and one who studies Chinese history and its interactions with the west can see the reasons why China is compelled to claim territory, and why the West, specifically the United States, feels threatened by these claims. The South China Sea has been a key in global trade as well as supplying recourses. In fact, Roughly two thirds of South Korea s energy supplies, nearly sixty percent of Japan s and Taiwan s energy supplies, and eighty percent of China s crude oil imports come through the South China Sea. Not only this, but, the South China Sea has proven oil reserves of seven billion barrels, and an estimated 900 trillion cubic feet of natural gas (business insider). The available rivers in our cities that people used to be proud of, now have no water and are a source of pungent smells following piles of waste, which is quite hazardous to the health of humans as well as plants and animals. There could be many causes to this change and different people would give different reasons. One reason had been the coming in of street vending. Though it would be difficult to tell how vending slowly became part of our living in cities, it must be acknowledged that this trend led to unplanned expanded settlements. Many people trekked from the rural areas to settle in towns and cities with a belief that an available occupation was on the street. The streets were therefore full of people and activities, which resulted in lack of proper sanitation facilities and overcrowded conditions. This also posed a high risk of communicable diseases and caused additional pressure on management of waste. Our towns and cities today ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Further, the Mustang offered a three on the floor manual transmission to the Falcon s three speed automatic. Similarities included the Mustang s standard 200 cubic foot inline six engine with a one barrel carburetor (optional in the Falcon), steering, rear suspension, and differential. Pros And Cons Of Homeland Security The United States border stretches for thousands of miles of harsh desert and forest landscape, between two oceans, over lakes and rivers and deals with the highest amount of immigrant traffic in the world. The U.S. has one of the toughest jobs in dealing with border security and the other issues that arise from economic and political ramifications, to securing the land, sea and air borders from unwanted entry by illegals immigrants, terrorists and contraband. In our reading of Illicit by Naim (2005), he suggests that the asymmetrical relationship between the government and transnational crime groups create a struggle for the government to respond to these transnational crimes at a decent rate (Naim,2005). On the other side our reading in McMafia: A Journey Through the Global Criminal Underworld by Glenny (2009), suggest otherwise. Glenny (2009) suggests that of a relationship between transnational crime groups, the public, the government and this is a huge aspect to how the government responds to these factors. Both perspectives contain their strengths and weaknesses, however the dependency theory by Glenny has more valid points than that of the asymmetrical theory by Naim. The asymmetrical theory by Naim says that the differences between the government and that of transnational crime creates asymmetry (Naim,2005). Different government agencies are organized in a hierarchical relationship that functions consistently from the top to the bottom (Naim,2005). Governments must often follow legal processes that take up time and cost money. These governments are forced to follow budget constraints, as well as legal and political reservation (Naim,2005). • 23. Barn Burning Sarty Character Analysis Blinded by Loyalty The word loyalty can be broken down into its main term, loyal. To be loyal is to show dedication to an ideology, individual, or group whom presumably all share the same beliefs. For instance, many people use either Apple or Android cell phones. It is not that one is better than the other, it is usually just what a person has grown up using. This can be described as brand loyal. In Barn Burning the family loyalty theme is made evident throughout the story by bringing to light the dynamic in which the Snopes family is expected to act with emphasis on a strong, harsh father and a son with underlying values that differ from those of his family. It is not until 20 years later that Sarty realizes that society wanted only truth, justice (Faulkner 3). It was not society whom demanded extreme loyalty, it was merely his family and more specifically his power hungry father. Abner at one point in the story takes it as far as to tell Sarty to stick to his families own blood because if not then he would have no one else to rely on (Faulkner 3). This shallow threat is yet another attack on a boy that aims to please his father, but is so caught in the middle of his battle with loyalty and self that he can be depicted as flying and being removed or suspended from the ground (Kirchdorfer 116). These stocks have done good since I have bought them. These stocks had their ups and down throughout the whole game, but although they didn t have it that bad . They may have gained money, but, they also, losted money at the same time. Also, there were days where the stock price went up and down since there were people out there that was willing to pay for the stock at a higher price, but there were others that didn t think it was worth it at a higher price. Some of the other stocks that I owned at different times in the stock market game was AT T, Verizon, Disney, Mcdonald s, Nikes, and Home Depot. I made the decision to get rid of these stocks because they were having me to lose more money then I was gaining from them. At the end of having these stocks I losted more money then what I bought them for. Some of the stocks that I should have bought more of was Amazon, and Wal Mart. Even though I should have bought more of these two stock; I didn t for one reason, because I wanted to see how the other stocks will do. They are constantly moving keeping the audience engaged, making use of the stage, they dance through the space in a range of ways. Their moves are always sharp sudden and strong. The scene could have been enhanced by adding more lighting techniques, to guide the audience through the scene, because it was neutral throughout the whole scene and only dimmed to signal the end of the musical sequence. A technique used commonly throughout the play is the use of the choreographic device of a canon, in scenes that the Von Trapp children dance together. It makes a positive effect and enhances the quality of the movement that much more. The actors interact with each other in a positive way and engage with the audience by allowing us to be clear of what is happening with the story line. Overall, I thought that production had chosen immensely talented cast who had amazing chemistry with one another which was portrayed during the whole production, through their interactions. • 33. William Shaw s Pygmalion On The Myth Of Pygmalion And... At the end of Bernard Shaw s Pygmalion, Eliza finds herself as a new and empowered woman. Women in the 20th century are looked down upon. This is what happened to Eliza Doolittle. When Eliza meets a man named Higgins, he makes assumptions about her intelligence based on her speech. Higgins is wrong and fails to see that Eliza is one of the most intelligent characters in the play. Eliza s ability to pick up speech and learn is high which is unusual for a woman of her social standing. In some cases, Eliza is better at picking up speech patterns and learning than Higgins. This is rare based on the fact that Eliza raised herself with no parental figures and no one to teach her. Eliza s empowerment comes from the ignorance of the higher classes about the lower classes intelligence. Bernard Shaw bases his play Pygmalion on the myth of Pygmalion and Galatea. In the original Pygmalion myth, a sculptor creates a sculpture named Galatea, the two fall in love. In the first four acts, we see Shaw follow this structure. A girl transforms from a flower girl to a lady and we get shown a male lead who seems to fit the part of Pygmalion. The audience would expect the two to get to together. Although Shaw follows this pattern, he ends the play in the complete opposite of our expectations. This heightens Eliza s triumph and could frustrate the audience. With minor changes into the final scene, Pygmalion can get turned into a romance. Instead, Eliza has asserted her independence and walks out ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. The Mission Of The Rocket Mission The Rocket Mission The year was 2515. I walked into a nearby old antec shop where they sold mini Empire State Buildings, Pyramids, and Eiffel Towers. I went in there to collect a mini Eiffel Tower that the shop brought in, it had been a tradition that one person in my family would buy an Eiffel tower each year as a remembrance of my family s story of the Tower, and this year was my year. After I had walked into the shop and was greeted by a funky scent. It smelled like a mixture of dirty old man and dust. It didn t take me long before I figured out what the smell was, a small, wrinkly, old man walked up to me, greeting me with what looked like a bowl filled with dusty candy that must of been there for 20 years. Trying to be polite I took a candy and shoved it into my pocket knowing that I would never eat it anyway. The old man must of recognized me because before I had said anything, he slowly hobled to the back of the shop and came back with something in the basket on his walker. You must be a member of the Ferguson family, the old man had said in a raspy quiet voice. In reply I said, Yes I am, how did you know? You have the facial features of the others that have came in here. Wow you have a good memory for an old man. Who said being old causes memory loss. In amazement I asked, What s in your basket? Not evening replying to the question he handed me, a mini, one foot tall, metal Eiffel Tower that had a thick layer of dust on it, I picked it up and wiped ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
