Nature s Truth in Wuthering Heights The metaphors drawn from nature in Wuthering Heights drive
the plot primarily through characterization. Rarely does the story venture outside, containing almost
exclusively scenes leading up to a character s departure and the response to his/her journey. The
absence of tangible nature in a book so driven by its symbolism seems peculiar at first. Why does the
author not provide the reader any detail of Heathcliff s struggle against the storm after he departs in
heartbreak? By narrating the storm in terms of how it is observed from inside, the reader loses the
expected description of the storm s intensity. Even Catherine s diary, the most ... Show more content

Heathcliff personifies nature combating the human attempt to confine it in his stark contrast to the
civilized Lintons. Unlike any other character in the novel, Heathcliff remains authentic to nature and
does not try to fully domesticate its furious beauty. Where most people are more prone to suppress
their natural inclinations in favor of culture, Heathcliff is willing to defy societal standards, even if the
results are destructive. His revenge is not rooted in the evils of man, but rather cataclysmic nature as
driven by psychology. As Abraham Maslow argues in his A Theory of Motivation, any danger to our
basic needs or the defenses that protect them impose a psychological threat, bringing about emergency
reactions that could potentially be destructive. Heathcliff s experiences align with the deprivation of
these basic needs, and his revenge can therefore be seen as an entirely natural inclination. The five
basic needs in order of primacy are physiological needs, safety needs, love/belonging needs, esteem
needs, and self actualization needs. The most pressing need will overtake and individual s
consciousness and organize their capacities. The less pressing needs are minimized, even forgotten or
denied. However, when a need is satisfied, the next higher need emerges (Maslow find citation). In
order to most effectively analyze Heathcliff s revenge, it is important to study this hierarchy of needs
in ascending order in relation to their

Examples Of Post Colonialism In Things Fall Apart
The novel Things Fall apart is a post colonial novel written by Nigerian novelist Chinua Achebe in
1958, before Nigerian sovereignty. The novel portrays the life of Okonkwo, an Ibo head and local
wrestle champion in Nigerian village of Umuofia. The novel is divided into three parts, the first parts
talks about his family and personal history, the customs and society of the Ibo, and the second and
third sections introduce the influence of British colonialism and Christian missionaries on the Ibo
community during the late 1800s. Achebe provides the examples of post colonialism through the
symbolic representations of the colonizers, the introduction of their new religion, the creation of their
own government, and explains how the colonizers have caused them to diverge from their original
traditions and cultures.

A Raisin In The Sun Assimilation Analysis
Lorraine Hansberry s 1959 play A Raisin in the Sun follows the story of the Younger family over a
time period of several weeks, in which great internal and external change quickly occurs for its
characters. Throughout the play, readers are able to see the arduous daily lives of the Younger family,
as created by the segregated, racist society in which they live. Though no longer slaves like their
ancestors, the African American family is still unable to claim the same level of success as the white
community without yielding aspects of their native culture. The accumulation of their struggles weigh
heavily on each of the characters and, as the play continues, readers can see characters begin to
acknowledge the restrictive social roles they have been placed into. Such confrontation likewise urges
the characters to search for meaning in who they are and what they stand for in the face of oppression
and segregation. The distinctions between the segregated white and black American communities of
the 1950s are placed at the fore front of the play, with the concept of assimilation taking on a large,
necessary role as a great opposing force. By bringing assimilation into focus, A Raisin in the Sun
manages to reveal the ____ through the play s characters and their beliefs, highlighting the specific
issues which hinder the Younger family on their journey towards a better life and in their search for
identity and belonging.
While the concept of assimilation plays a large overarching

Throughout the chaotic times of the medieval period rebellions took place all across Europe as
peasants rose up against the nobility. Jean Froissart documents one french rebellion during the the
14th century in his work Chronicles. Once the King of Navarre took power, peasants from Brie,
Laonnois, and Soissons assembled in Beauvoisin. They had no leader, but were determined to fight
back against tyrannical nobility of France. The oppressed peasants wanted to destroy the knights and
the squires of the French realm for using their power and prestige against the common man. With little
armour and poor weaponry the peasants began to attack nearby castles, slaying the knights who
dwelled there and violating the wives and daughters. Castles and estates were left in ruins as the

The Count of Foix and Captal de Buch safely reached the two duchesses and paid their respects, but
the villeins alongside Jacques were on the move and ready to attack. A brilliant plan to destroy the
villeins was orchestrated by the Count and the Captal de Buch. Around 9000 peasants from the county
of Valois joined the attack on Meaux and prepared to slaughter the remaining nobles. The Count and
Captal de Buch were smarter though and trapped the poorly armed peasants inside the market place.
Although the peasants outnumbered the knights, their weaponry and tactics were much weaker and the
disorganized peasants were overrun by the nobles and began to fall over each other as they helplessly
retreated. The nobles began to persecute the peasant on by one until they were all driven out of
Meaux. After the nobles set fire to the mutinous city of Meaux , the dead rebels were thrown into the
River Marne. The remaining rebellious peasants were exterminated and the assemblies of Jacques

them deliver the expected results and give you irresistible long lashes, some products unfortunately

avoid using precisely because it contains prostaglandin analogues is the Xlash Eyelash Enhancer

The Hittite, Jewish, Phoenician, Persian, And Assyrians
The Hittite, Jewish, Phoenician, Persian, and Assyrians nations are all very important nations within
Mesopotamia. They share similar attributes but differ at the same time. The HIttites were one of the
great empires of the Middle East during 1400 1200 BC. THey rested within the lands of modern
Turkey and Syria. They adopted some of the traditions of Mesopotamia (i.e. cuneiform writing).
Widely known for their use and manufacturing of iron, the Hittites were also famous for their chariot
building. The Hittite empire soon fell to the Assyrians. The Jewish were led to Israel by one of their
patriarchs, Abraham, around 1950 B.C.E. Throughout time, the Israelites were captured numerous

Sone, they became expert sailors and grew wealthy from trade. The creation of the Phoenician
alphabet is one of the greatest accomplishments they achieved and was used by many other
civilizations. With the founding of Carthage and other colonies, the use of paryus before the Greeks is
a few of their other achievements. In 550 B.C.E. to 331 B.C.E. the Persian empire went from India all
the way to Europe. Cyrus the Great was one of Persia s kings. The geography limited trade with other
neighboring civilizations. Persia conquered Anatolia for the purpose of the use of their seaports for
trade. Cyrus son created the Persian satrap (governors). After unsuccessfully invading Greece, due to
the rebellions within the civilizations, Persia was conquered by Alexander the Great. The Assyrian
empire spans over modern day Turkey, Syria, Iraq, and Iran. The rivers Tigris and Euphrates both ran
through the Assyrian empire which also contained rich and fertile land. The spoken languages they
used were Akkadian and Assyrian ( Assyrian Neo Aramaic) while writing with cuneiform. The
Assyrians participated in the religions Ashurism and Christianity. Assyrians were often militaristic and

Pros And Cons Of Scrambling Africa And The Aftermath
Scrambling Africa and the Aftermath.
One common phenomenon between many nations of the world is the colony. The United States,
Canada, South Korea, Niger, India, Kenya, Australia, and the Republic of South Africa and more
shared the pros and cons of colonial systems. They are all former colonies to the extent that India,
Nigeria, South Africa, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand are members of the Commonwealth, they
are former colonies of the United Kingdom and they all continue to concede the nominal leadership of
the queen.
Here we come to the limit of the commonality of the countries that we routinely put the stamp former
colonies. Since the many countries that we often put under that rubric have traversed diverse
trajectories both as colonies and former colonies, it is difficult to justify our thinking about them in
their sameness, except nominally. Because whereas Canada, the United States, and Australia are
obviously modern states with thriving economies built on intense industrialization (and South Korea,
India, and the Republic of South Africa are not far behind), few will say that Nigeria or the rest of the
former colonies in Africa either have thriving economies or can be judged modern states. What is
more, although Canada, the United States, and Australia have thriving systems of rule of law as well
as robust civil societies, in spite of the fact that many African countries are now ostensibly under
representative democracies, few will deny that they are nowhere

Second Hand Smoke Research Paper
In the world today we have many things that are harmful and dangerous to us. Ordinarily, when we
think of someone causing you harm, it is not so close to home. Your mother and father are the furthest
from your mind of people who would do something to harm you. In many cases, they are the people
who can do the most harm. In this review I would like to determine if children ages unborn of
eighteen with daily exposure to tobacco smoke have a predisposition to asthma. I chose these ages
because this is when the child is unquestionably helpless and vulnerable to the parents, when they are
living with them. They have no other options than to be around the parent and cannot take care of
themselves outside of the home.

Smoking or secondhand smoke is one of the most common reasons for an asthma attack. An asthma
attack is when the person cannot breathe because the airways are swollen. This also includes
coughing, wheezing and tightness or pain in the chest. In many cases of asthma, it is preventable. The
secondhand smoke is the reason the asthma was developed. Children with asthma and exposed to
secondhand smoking are more likely to have an asthma attack than children without exposure to
secondhand smoke. We know that asthma cannot be cured, there are only symptom relievers such as
inhalers. Asthma can last for a patient s entire life, forcing them to live limited lives, with limited

Equity Plays An Important Role For The Common Law
Equity plays an important role in the common law which will be explained in this essay. It s
foundational principles derive from philosophy and ethics as well as from political and religious
background. To understand specific nature and extent it operates in the modern world it would be
necessary to look how it developed over the centuries in the UK.
In the 13th century s England, the common law courts operated through the Court of Common Pleas
and the King s Bench and could only offer a limited range of remedies, predominantly monetary
damages, becoming inflexible and very strict. This was due to a closed categories of available writs,
therefore many judgments were regarded as unfair. As a result people became dissatisfied with the
system and started petitioning the king for a more suitable remedies. With increasing number of
petitions the king began to delegate the function of resolving such petitions to the Chancellor. The
chancellors were often clergymen, king s confessors and keepers of the king s conscience, which
shaped the character of equity. They developed new, more appropriate remedies for the cases based on
individual justice. However, each chancellor had different understanding of fairness giving an overall
impression of uncertainty and inconsistency in law. With even more increase of petitions, new court
has been created known as the Court of Chancery. With the time, the growing of equity started to
create conflicts with common law system, as individuals relied

The students watched this video, then discussed what they thought were the important take aways. The
main points the teachers seemed to want the students to take away from that video is what causes earth
quakes, what are the strongest type of earthquake, and how do we measure earthquakes. The second
video the class watched, showed video footage of the aftermath of some earthquakes that have
happened in history. The video showed destruction of buildings, and how earthquakes can cause
tsunamis and the destruction that tsunamis also cause. The point of this video was to show the students
how important the engineering of building is, and got them to start thinking about their own bridges
and how they can withstand an earthquake. We did not directly discuss bridges this week though, our
focus was primarily on earthquakes.
When we broke up into our teams, my team was trying to answer two specific questions; what are the
effects of an earthquake? And can we build earthquake proof buildings. I worked with two boys in the
class, Kendall and Sean to help answer these questions. To answer these questions each of the students
had a laptop and used Google Classroom to access links to websites the teachers provided to answer
these questions. We discussed what the effects of an earthquake are, this included destruction of

The Effects Of Gratitude
Gratitude also reduces feelings of jealosy, makes our memories happier, lets us experience good
feelings, and helps come out of stress. Materialism is strongly related with reduced well being and
increased rates of mental disorder. There s nothing bad in hoping for more. The problem with
materialism is that it makes people feel less capable, reduces feelings of gratitude, reduces one s
ability to appreciate and enjoy the good in life, generates negative emotions, and makes them more
self centered.
Gratitude also increases your self respect. Imagine a world where no one helps you. Despite your

Gratitude is not just a fugitive emotion, but it is also a excellence. Grateful people are more tending to
the emotion, are prone to respond with gratitude to a wider range of beneficent actions, and are more
likely to notice beneficence on the part of others in particular, they are more likely to respond to it
with the emotion of gratitude rather than with alternative emotions like agony, shame, or guilt.
Grateful people are likely to agree with statements such as It s important to respect each day that you
are alive , I often feel how easier my life is because of the efforts of others, and For me, life is much
like a wonderful gift than it is a burden. Phrases such as these come from personality questionnaires

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Insomnia Essay
As a kid all I would want to do is pull all nighters , now all I want is to actually have one good night s
sleep, or at least half a night s sleep. For those who are completely oblivious to what insomnia is it is
characterized as a persistent lack of sleep, but those who have insomnia know that it is so much more
than just a lack of sleep. For instance, there are actually different types of insomnia that are
categorized by how long you stay awake, if lack of sleep last less than a week then it is considered
Transient Insomnia, if it last one to three weeks its Short Term Insomnia, and if it last longer than
three weeks it s called Chronic Insomnia. I myself suffer from insomnia, and my symptoms would

school but I knew there was no way I could go to sleep still and I couldn t understand why.

1 Environmental allergens: (e.g., house dust mites, animal allergens, especially cat and dog, cockroach

Montetesquieu And Voltaire And The Enlightenment
As time continued through the European Scientific Revolution, a wide range of new thinkers and
philosophers emerged in society to bring change to the continent throughout the eighteenth century.
This development of new thinking was known as the Enlightenment. Philosophers of the time,
commonly known as philosophes, sought to bring new information and ideas to the people of Europe
and the world. Ultimately, these ideas pertained to all parts of society, including the government,
economic policies, and religion. The continuation of Enlightenment attitudes reinforced faith in the
ideas of change and progress through entertaining completely new forms of government, new theories

This meant that the government should not interfere with the business of the country, which
contradicted dictation of the government over economics, as in a mercantilistic system. Smith was
considered the Father of Capitalism and he entertained the idea that anyone should be able to profit
independently from business and that a government is unnecessary in regulating business.
Collectively, Smith s ideas about changing economic policy were very progressive and their relations
to the Enlightenment reinforced faith in the overall idea of progress. The Enlightenment brought the
emergence of deism, a new religious denomination. Desists believed that God was the creator of the
heavens and Earth but that he was not directly attached to the everyday events of human life. They
believed that he was not always present and watching over the people on Earth. This developed the
idea that mankind had direct power over their lives and the world around them, not God. This new
idea posed the expansion of the concept of relying on human importance and significance within the
world. This went hand in hand with the belief that humans could be responsible for earthy events and
accomplishments, and that these occurrences did not have to be connected to God. This so called
progress gave man more confidence in his own personal abilities and skills without having to rely on
God for everything, thus making it a very

Understanding And Treatment Of Psychological Disorders
The definition, understanding and treatment of psychological disorders have changed over time. In the
dark ages or mid evil times, people who behaved abnormally were quickly labelled as being mad or
being possessed by spirits. The individuals were often held in isolation with their treatments being
very cruel and harsh. In the eighteenth century, a French physician named Philippe Pinel challenged
the cruel treatment methods and promoted a gentler and more humane approach. According to the
American Psychiatric Association, a psychological disorder is a syndrome marked by a clinically
significant disturbance in an individual s cognition, emotion regulation or behavior. (American
Psychiatric Association, 2013). Some people use the term psychological disorder in the same context
as a mental illness or disorder. It is a behavior that leads to distress in an individual and prevents him
or her from living a normal life to the point that they cannot perform daily chores. Certain behaviors
have normal acceptable characteristics and if the behavior falls outside of this acceptable range, it can
be considered a disorder. The behavior can be painful as well as harmful to the individual. One thing
to note is that the behavior should not be something that is caused by a sudden stressful experience
such as grief due to the death of a loved one. (Myers, 506) A psychologist can use The Diagnostic and

Socioeconomic Status And Mental Health
Does one s socioeconomic status affect their mental health? Mental health is a broad category that
refers to our mental well being. Mental illness refers to many different conditions that impact our
mood, our emotions, our thinking, and our affect. Depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia are all
examples of mental health conditions. Socioeconomic status (SES) is a term that social scientists use
to capture many different factors. It refers to a person s income level, education, and general position
in society. It s essentially a combined measure of how we re doing. Lower socioeconomic status is
related to higher levels of mental illness. This is known as a negative correlation in research terms. In
other words, as one variable increases, the other decreases. In this case, as SES decreases, the
incidence of mental health issues generally increases. Socioeconomic status (SES) is evaluated as a
combination of factors, including income, level of education, and occupation. It is a way of looking at
how individuals or families fit into society using economic and social measures. Likewise, according
to Psychiatry.org, mental illnesses are health conditions involving changes in thinking, emotion or
behavior, or a combination of these. Mental illnesses are associated with distress and/or problems
functioning in social, work or family activities. Mental health is the foundation for thinking,

hard to diagnose even for some experts, however, there have been quite a number of celebrities who
have been linked to this disorder which made people more aware of their increasing prevalence.

Rejection Movie Essay
The story of Rejection follows the intricacies of marital relationships through the development of the
characters Kyle and Deborah. Rejection begins with the introduction of Deborah, a businesswoman in
her late twenties, riding in a Uber to a hotel for a business trip. She appears to be distant and in a rush,
yet kind at heart. After arriving and checking in at the hotel, she begins to get ready for her first
meeting only to be interrupted by a phone call from her husband Kyle.
The couple begins the conversation with small talk that leads Kyle to bring up a mutual friend of
theirs. Kyle asks his wife is she remembers John which begins a series of flashbacks that occurs
throughout the film. The first flashback starts with Kyle introducing Deborah ... Show more content

Deborah pushes back at every suggestion. As the conversation ensues, there are three periodic cut
aways that detail John s various stages of treatment. Kyle begins the questions feeling hopeful about
his friend and ends feeling disdained due to his wife s disconnection. Deborah informs Kyle that she
needs to go and she hangs up.
The next scene begins with a man sitting in a wheelchair in the radiation room with a phone to his
head. The camera pulls out to reveal that the man waiting for his next treatment is Kyle and that he
was actually John in the previous scenes. Then Deborah receives a call from the hospital informing
her that her husband is behind on his payments for his radiation treatments. The film ends with Kyle
receiving a call from his wife and before he can do anything, it cuts to black.
Kyle creates a fictitious situation using his friend John to both test the waters and deflect the task of
telling Deborah about his cancer. In the end, he assumes his wife wouldn t abide well with a
handicapped husband deflecting her attention away from her career onto him. Deborah is believed to
be the character in the wrong, however, it is Kyle s personal flaws that exacerbate her vices. Kyle feels
as if he cannot be honest with his wife due to the lack of emotional intimacy in their relationship.
Deborah, too busy to fully understand the weight of the situation, responds in a way that alienates her

Sponsors Of Literacy Analysis
In Deborah Brandt s article, Sponsors of Literacy, she defines sponsors as, ... any agents, local or
distant, concrete or abstract, who enable, support, teach, model, as well as recruit, regulate, suppress,
or withhold literacy and gain advantage by it in some way (pp 166). There have been a few people in
my life who have done exactly that; they helped me gain knowledge on many topics in hopes that I
would find it informative and be able to better the world around me. My father, for one, has been my
literary sponsor for the sport of softball. This type of literacy is one that is mostly for fun, but it also
gave me incentive to spend time with my dad. He was the one who taught me every aspect of the
game (how to swing a bat, pitch the ball, and catch a pop fly). When I wanted to work on hitting, he
would bring me to a batting cage and pitch to me for as long as I wanted. When I was in the mood to
pitch, he would take me out in the backyard and catch for me. At first there was a little bit of a
problem with him teaching me softball because he was used to baseball. Baseball and softball can ...

Whether you are the sponsor or the one being sponsored, you gain advantage from this relationship.
When my dad sponsored me, I learned how to have fun and be more social. With Mrs. Howden, I

realize I want to be a traveling nurse. When someone sponsors you, you are given a chance to do
something with the information you received. When you get the chance to sponsor someone else, you
are giving them a chance to bring new ideas to the table and to improve themselves. As Brandt said,
Literacy, like land, is a valued commodity in this economy, a key resource in gaining profit and edge

The Media s Influence On Society s Preoccupation
Historically, queer lives have tended to exist outside of the mainstream. In their rejection of society s
preoccupation with a heteronormative narrative, they ve shunned outlets that have pushed it. Yet,
employing more mainstream channels as part of your cause can mean reaching people who, otherwise,
would not know where to look. LGBTQ+ celebrities, such as Olly Alexander, are proving this. That an
overground voice is not necessarily a homogenised one. Indeed, since popular culture both reflects
current values and teaches them the importance of positive representation there cannot be overlooked
(Peele, 2007).
As the lead singer of the successful synth pop group, Years and Years, Alexander has accompanied his
rise to fame with an increasing desire to be open about his sexuality. Finding enjoyment in talking
about being gay, Alexander knows that doing so can help others (Collins, 2016). His vibrancy offers
his fans, many of whom are also LGBTQ+, a sense of value and validity in a society that does not
(Respondent 16, 2016, [survey]). That is to say, Olly Alexander s importance lies in him being both a
chart topping pop star and visibly gay.
At it s most simple, visibility means to be seen. A community s visibility is its political platform, the
acquisition of which allows the voices of a cause to be heard and work together to raise awareness of
their causes. The conversations that take place between these people create a culture built up from a

Appellate Power Vs Supreme Court
First of all, it is important to distinguish that the appellate and discretionary powers belonging to the
Supreme Court are two separate powers. The appellate power is the power of a higher court to reverse
or uphold the ruling of a lower court. The Supreme court is the highest court and thus takes more
appeals cases than trial cases. This is due to the limited original jurisdiction of The Supreme Court.
Unless the case is between two states, involves the United States as a party, or involves a
representative of a foreign nation the U.S. Supreme Court lacks original jurisdiction. The Supreme
Court also has limited appellate jurisdiction. The Court can only hear a case if a federal question is
presented, The United States federal government ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Allowing for appeals to the highest court allows for important decisions to be made that set precedent
for the rest of the courts. It also allows for errors made in the lower court to be corrected. The
appellate jurisdiction that The Supreme Court holds is granted by The Constitution. In Article III of
the preamble The Supreme Court is only limited by the discretion of Congress. In a way this power
has more checks in place than the discretionary powers. One major critic of the appellate power of The
Supreme Court is that it allows for lower courts to be invalidated. This can lead to less faith in the
lower courts and thus undermines the power of the overall judicial system. Another problem with the
appeals process is the amount of useless litigation that results from the ability to appeal. The Supreme
Court does not often overturn decisions made by the lower courts and thus most of the cases brought
to The Court take up time and resources that might be better used. The process of appeals for the
Supreme Court solves some of this problem, but does not completely mitigate it. The review process
used by The Supreme Court is highly effective and ensures only cases that need the decision of The
Supreme Court reach the justices. As such, the appellate powers of The Supreme Court have few
issues and serve an important function in the Judicial

Stranger Danger Research Papers
Stranger danger is a term that we learned as children in elementary school. Even though we re taught
to never talk to or trust strangers, doing so has almost become an instinct. When I walk out to the
mailbox at the end of my driveway, I m expecting to see some bills, some magazines, and if I m lucky,
something that I ordered off Amazon. Everyday we are relying on that mail carrier not to do certain
things: lose or damage any mail. Placing faith in strangers has become an everyday event because we
have to in order to have an easier and better experience on earth. Not only do we trust strangers with
our mail, but we also put them in charge of cleaning the rooms we stay in.
To begin, we all at one point stayed at some sort of hotel. When my family checks in and we get our
room key, we are expecting to see the carpet vacuumed, the toilets scrubbed to a pristine white, and
most importantly: bedsheets that lack bedbugs and long black hairs. But knowing if the maid changed

The New Brunswick Islamic Center
Since the dawn of time, religion has been the staple of humanity. It has been our explanation for the
unexplainable, as well a way for us to form a community with those around us. Due to the natural
diversity of humans, a varied set of separate religions has formed throughout the world. Religions
continue to adapt and inspire each other, however, they all have their differences, as well as internal
differences through the observations of each believer. The exterior of the New Brunswick Islamic
Center is incredibly misleading. The outside appears similar to a factory, yet, it s the inside that
suggests something holier. The inner appearance of the religious center is not very extravagant either,
yet, it has a respectful atmosphere to it. Everyone acknowledges each other with a warm greeting, and
everyone acts friendly. The building itself only was composed of a lobby and a musallah¸ or ritual
hall. The women sat separated from the men, and everyone was required to remove their shoes. The
age distribution was very spread out. Many young children accompanied their parents to prayer, while
many older worshippers came alone. In fact, the lowest subset age wise were college and high school
aged students. The dress of the worshippers was perhaps the most varied. Some were in traditional
garb, some were in basketball shorts and snapbacks, and some even fused traditional robes with
baseball caps. The service attended was Dhruhr, the midday prayer. The service begins with a sermon

When Pigs Fly
About 20 years ago, I picked up a friend for the airport. She told me that she had a present from her
and another mutual friend. It was the CD (remember those???) of the musical When Pigs Fly. For the
next hour I remained speechless as I listened to one hysterically funny track after another. It began a
TRUE love affair with the musical. The concept of the revue, by Mark Waldrop and the late Howard
Crabtree (1955 1996), is that Howard stages a musical. As he struggles to do so, dealing with the large
egos of performers or scenery gone wrong, he hears the words of his high school guidance counselor,

Public Humiliation As A Deterrent Against Future Crimes
Public humiliation can be extremely effective and valuable for improvement in discipline and serves
as a deterrent against future crimes. Public shaming has been employed since the beginning of time
and is practiced worldwide. Throughout history, the advantage of the practice of public humiliation
was exploited by early civilization for the prime and propitious results. In Ancient Rome, public
humiliation was frequently utilized during crucifixion, when a person was killed for a sin. Crucifixion
was as defined by Dr. Dan Hayden, the most humiliating and degrading form of public death ever
devised. (Hayden, Hung On a Tree ). The method of crucifixion was not only shameful for the one
being punished but also was as an incentive for the public. It served as a reminder to avoid committing
a sin. In the Middle East, nations such as Iran and Afghanistan, authorities... amputated the hands of a
convicted thief in front of other prisoners... (Associated Press, Iran Cuts Off Man s Hand For Stealing
). The purpose of this form of public humiliation serves similar to the motives of the crucifixion.
These are just two of the countless historical records that assert the usage of public humiliation for
stabilization within the society. It was constantly used in the former times and is still used in the
modern era. The effectiveness of this form of discipline was and is still witnessed by numerous
individuals. The form of discipline portrayed by public humiliation persuades and serves as

The Spanish American War Essay
The Spanish American War, also known as The Splendid Little War, was a short lived conflict between
the United States and Spain in 1898. This war was a pretext for the Philippines War. During this time
period Spain had control over several territories within the Caribbean because they were still a
colonial power. Although Spain had control of the territories of Cuba and the Philippines, the
inhabitants began to grow more and more rebellious as time passed. With the tension building between
Spain and its territories, the United States was in a position to become their ally and help them fight to

Wetzel (2012) contends that by 1898 some observers thought that 400,000 Cubans had died in these
camps. (p. 408) Because of the reconcentrado policy in Cuba, U.S. public opinion of war was aroused
and war sentiment rose.
Regardless of the armistice McKinley proposed to Spain in Cuba and although McKinley was
informed that the queen of Spain ordered hostilities be suspended, he asked Congress for authority to
intervene in Cuba. Soon after, Congress passed resolves to demand that Spain withdrawal from Cuba.
The U.S. also set terms that they will not withdraw from this island until independence was assured in
Cuba, also known as the Teller Amendment. Congress declared war on Spain by authorizing the
enlistment of volunteer troops and the U.S. instituting a blockade of Spanish ports. (Key Events in the
Spanish American War, 2013, p. 1) As previously mentioned, once the war began, the warfare was
very short lived and one sided. When George Dewey s squadron defeated a Spanish fleet in four hours
in the harbor of Manila, Philippine Islands, this marked one of the first incidents in this war. From this
thorough victory, Dewey became a renowned hero within the United States. It was evident that the
Spanish forces during this engagement were very weak, but during heavy fighting at San Juan Hill

The growing popularity and declining cost of travel and the rise of new communications technologies

By the late 1980 s, Costa Rica had become one of the principal tourist destinations in Central America.

throughout the story. Throughout the poem the author makes deep connections to heaven and hell and
the heavens sending things down to earth. William Blake uses the literary devices syntax, diction,
figurative language and imagery to construct the whimsical tone and the beauty of this world. The
authors use of syntax helps the reader feel like there in a children s story reading about a mythical

about the deeps and the skies it makes the the poem have a dreamy magical feeling. When the poem is
about a tiger and then the poet talks about heaven and hell it makes the reader envision the forest a
bright tyger and objects coming down from the skies and from the ground. Also imagery is used when
Blake declares the stars threw down their spears . This depicts that the heavens are throwing down
objects at the lion. This gives the poem a scared feeling and a magical component because the heavens
can not literally throw things down to earth so the must be using magic or dreaming that the heavens
can do that. Another use of imagery is when the author refers to the lamb making the reader think
about children s bible stories and pictures that depict a lion or a lamb. In this case the reader can make
the connection that the tyger is the lion and in the bible story the lion is the king of the world or God.
When the poet changes the main characters meaning or characteristics it allows the reader s
imagination to explore and dream up what the story is actually meaning and relate it to their whimsical

A Separate Peace Movie Vs Book
There are so many changes between the book and the movie. The book was a lot better than the movie
I think. When a producer makes a movie out of a book, they take the most interesting things from the
book and just erase the rest of it. Us book lovers absolutely hate when they go to watch a movie based
off a book they love and they leave out the most important details. The book first opens up with Frank
Bryce s history, about how he was accused of murdering the Riddle family he worked for, many years
ago. This is omitted from the movie. Bertha Jorkins, the Ministry employee that Wormtail and

My Internship With An Economic And Trade Office Essay
Description During my internship with an Economic and Trade office, I was engaged in various
investments projects, cultural events, and HR administration duties. Part of my HR duty was
managing four different personalities to organise a cultural promotional event, with a supervisor
monitoring our progress. Even through we were supposed to work as a team, I did not maximise on
the strengths of each member, but took most of the responsibility myself. Consequently, the team
became demotivated and less efficient. We were not able to find much sponsorship for the event. The
director was displeased and blamed us for this failure. I became disappointed and wished that I had
engaged the team more by listening to their views, and allowing them to contribute where the could.
Feeling As I took it upon myself to perform most of the tasks meant for the team, I felt as if I was
doing the right thing because it would help avoid mistakes. At the time, I thought that the team
members were not competent enough to offer better solutions for undertaking the project. I worried
much about what might go wrong and was unwilling to take the risk. I also wanted to prove my
abilities and good judgment skills to the supervisor. I now realize that I was trying to avoid a situation
where I would take the responsibility if the team failed to deliver. Even after completing the task, I

The Advantages Of Online Cybersback
Online peer feedback
Researchers have identified how peer feedback in cyberspace retains the advantage of traditional
written feedback as students put words together to write about writing. As Mark Mabrito (1991) put it,
the situation demands not only writing but also the skillful verbalization of one s thoughts and ideas
about writing and a peer s text (p. 510). When focusing on writing in cyberspace, students, in Jennifer
Jordan Henley and Barry M. Maid s (1995) words, are released from much of the responsibility that a
face to face encounter sometimes forces on them. They are not affected, for instance, by students with
bad breath, or by students who make them uncomfortable in some vague way, or by students who are
angry with a teacher (p. 212). Releasing from these kinds of responsibilities in the ... Show more

It should be considered that Honeycutt s observations refer to online conferencing, and the use of
other methods such as MicrosoftWord documents would have provided more possibilities for making
explicit references like highlighting or inserting comments. Clark and Brennan (1991) regarded the
more document related referencing in providing written feedback as a fundamental demand for
communication in online peer feedback. When the students are obliged to concentrate on making
coherent comments in a text only environment, the advantages of traditional written feedback will be
retained in online peer feedback for improving of meta language and awareness of written
communication. Implying the nature of textuality in online peer feedback refers to the differences
between asynchronous and synchronous conferencing. Both are electronic communications.
Asynchronous conferencing is closer to textuality and reduces interactivity owing to the absence of
nonverbal cues and the delay of interaction (Braine, 2001; Liu Sadler, 2003; Tuzi, 2004), whereas

From the standpoint of the labor process, these functions can be grouped around the design and
assembly of printed circuit boards and related components, the final assembly of systems (called box
build) and logistics and inventory related work (Lüthje, Schumm and Sproll 2002). Contract
manufacturers are serving a growing range of product markets from Personal Computers and servers,
over Internet routers and switching gear, to communications equipment (especially mobile phones),
consumer products such as computer game or television sets, industrial and automotive electronics, as
well as space and aircraft electronics.
The wide range of manufacturing services and products that contract manufacturers provide
distinguishes them from traditional subcontractors, or board stuffers , in the electronics industries.
Whereas such firms perform labor intensive assembly processes strictly controlled by the brand name
owner (also called OEM), CM companies develop and manage complex production processes, often
cross national in scope (Sturgeon 1997 and 1999). Contract manufacturing is also different from more
sophisticated sub supply arrangements in the IT industry, particularly from Original Design
Manufacturing (ODM). As opposed to contract manufacturing, ODM companies own the

The Importance Of Spanking Children
It is a good idea to spank your children yes, I think that it is a great idea. Today in this generation
parents do not like to say no to their kids and they get whatever they want. This is a big problem with
children running their parents today and the parents are not saying no or disciplining them. I believe
that kids today should be spanked. Many kids today do not have any respect for anyone like adults,
teachers, and their grandparents. In this generation parents do not like to spank or discipline their
children. They don t like doing this because they think it could hurt their children if they do so. When
a child does something wrong they act a certain way, and get into trouble they should get spank for
what they did. When a child gets into trouble they should be spanked for it because it teaches great life
skills when it comes to it. With spanking there are many lessons when it comes to it. When I was
growing up I got spanked if I did something wrong. After I got spanked I never did that thing again
that I did to get spanked again. I have learned a lot of life lessons when it comes to spanking. I have
become a great respectful adult because I was spanked growing up. Today I repst everyone that I meet
today because of the lessons I was taught. There are lessons when it comes to spanking your children.
I am glad this happened to me growing up because if it wasn t I would not have become the person
that I am today. There are many lessons and it helps children to become

How Advertisers Gear Their Advertisements Towards Children
Advertisers and Children This essay will be about how advertisers gear their advertisements towards
children. It will explain whether or not it is appropriate to do so and what effects it can have on them.
Advertisers have an effect on where kids eat, what they wear, what they buy, and where they go for
vacations (Poulton). Advertisers will employ celebrities to endorse their products in order to make the
product more popular among teens. They will even send text messages to people who sign up about
special sales or other advertisements. There are two sides to this argument. One side says it is okay
gearing advertisements towards children, and another that says it is not okay. I am on the side that says
it is not okay to target children in advertising. The reason being is because it can lead to undisciplined
children, money problems, and bad habits in life. On the other side, people agree that targeting
children are a good thing. They say this because it teaches them a compromise, promotes creativity,
economic benefits, a positive social influence, and educational benefits (Lush, Shannon, Breseman, et
al.). In this essay I will find the common grounds between the two sides. When children learn how to
compromise, it teaches them how to become independent and how to become smarter consumers. It is
also important for children to be creative because it increases their potential to create different things
that could possibly benefit society and have a positive influence on

King Asok Not More Than A Myth Essay
For a long time, King Asoka was thought to be nothing more than a myth. With several writings
concerning him, they all relayed too fantastical an image to be convincing as truthful, keeping him in a
legendary status. This all changed in 1837, well over a thousand years after his death, when a scholar
James Prinsep managed to translate writings on a stone pillar in Delhi. After several other scholars
raced to translate similar writings all over the Indian landscape, it was revealed that this King Piyadasi
was the same as King Asoka. Even with his history pieced together, Asoka s history is still legendary.
He started as a lowly person shunned by his own father and grew to be a ruler of a kingdom that had
never seen complete unity. But indeed, despite the face of caring compassion he attempted to convey
to the Indian people, and despite the reforms he made to various sectors of his kingdom, it is clear
Asoka was only using Buddhism as a way to unite the people and, more importantly, keep them under
his control. It is rumored that Asoka s grandmother was a Greek princess, with his lineage being traced
back to the Seleucus kingship, and that his Asoka s grandmother would have told him stories of
Alexander the Great and other Greek warriors, inspiring Asoka and gearing him towards being the
warrior he would become in the Kalinga Wars. Asoka s mother is supposed to be the daughter of a
Brahman, a Hindu priest. She eventually married the King of India, one of the first of the

Ap Literature. 24 February Amanda Aurigemma Gill 5th Hour AP Literature 24 February 2017 Nature s Truth in Wuthering Heights The metaphors drawn from nature in Wuthering Heights drive the plot primarily through characterization. Rarely does the story venture outside, containing almost exclusively scenes leading up to a character s departure and the response to his/her journey. The absence of tangible nature in a book so driven by its symbolism seems peculiar at first. Why does the author not provide the reader any detail of Heathcliff s struggle against the storm after he departs in heartbreak? By narrating the storm in terms of how it is observed from inside, the reader loses the expected description of the storm s intensity. Even Catherine s diary, the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Heathcliff personifies nature combating the human attempt to confine it in his stark contrast to the civilized Lintons. Unlike any other character in the novel, Heathcliff remains authentic to nature and does not try to fully domesticate its furious beauty. Where most people are more prone to suppress their natural inclinations in favor of culture, Heathcliff is willing to defy societal standards, even if the results are destructive. His revenge is not rooted in the evils of man, but rather cataclysmic nature as driven by psychology. As Abraham Maslow argues in his A Theory of Motivation, any danger to our basic needs or the defenses that protect them impose a psychological threat, bringing about emergency reactions that could potentially be destructive. Heathcliff s experiences align with the deprivation of these basic needs, and his revenge can therefore be seen as an entirely natural inclination. The five basic needs in order of primacy are physiological needs, safety needs, love/belonging needs, esteem needs, and self actualization needs. The most pressing need will overtake and individual s consciousness and organize their capacities. The less pressing needs are minimized, even forgotten or denied. However, when a need is satisfied, the next higher need emerges (Maslow find citation). In order to most effectively analyze Heathcliff s revenge, it is important to study this hierarchy of needs in ascending order in relation to their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. A Raisin In The Sun Assimilation Analysis Lorraine Hansberry s 1959 play A Raisin in the Sun follows the story of the Younger family over a time period of several weeks, in which great internal and external change quickly occurs for its characters. Throughout the play, readers are able to see the arduous daily lives of the Younger family, as created by the segregated, racist society in which they live. Though no longer slaves like their ancestors, the African American family is still unable to claim the same level of success as the white community without yielding aspects of their native culture. The accumulation of their struggles weigh heavily on each of the characters and, as the play continues, readers can see characters begin to acknowledge the restrictive social roles they have been placed into. Such confrontation likewise urges the characters to search for meaning in who they are and what they stand for in the face of oppression and segregation. The distinctions between the segregated white and black American communities of the 1950s are placed at the fore front of the play, with the concept of assimilation taking on a large, necessary role as a great opposing force. By bringing assimilation into focus, A Raisin in the Sun manages to reveal the ____ through the play s characters and their beliefs, highlighting the specific issues which hinder the Younger family on their journey towards a better life and in their search for identity and belonging. The oppressed peasants wanted to destroy the knights and the squires of the French realm for using their power and prestige against the common man. The Count and Captal de Buch were smarter though and trapped the poorly armed peasants inside the market place. Although the peasants outnumbered the knights, their weaponry and tactics were much weaker and the disorganized peasants were overrun by the nobles and began to fall over each other as they helplessly retreated. • 9. Pros And Cons Of Scrambling Africa And The Aftermath Scrambling Africa and the Aftermath. One common phenomenon between many nations of the world is the colony. The United States, Canada, South Korea, Niger, India, Kenya, Australia, and the Republic of South Africa and more shared the pros and cons of colonial systems. They are all former colonies to the extent that India, Nigeria, South Africa, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand are members of the Commonwealth, they are former colonies of the United Kingdom and they all continue to concede the nominal leadership of the queen. Here we come to the limit of the commonality of the countries that we routinely put the stamp former colonies. Since the many countries that we often put under that rubric have traversed diverse trajectories both as colonies and former colonies, it is difficult to justify our thinking about them in their sameness, except nominally. Because whereas Canada, the United States, and Australia are obviously modern states with thriving economies built on intense industrialization (and South Korea, India, and the Republic of South Africa are not far behind), few will say that Nigeria or the rest of the former colonies in Africa either have thriving economies or can be judged modern states. • 11. Equity Plays An Important Role For The Common Law Equity plays an important role in the common law which will be explained in this essay. It s foundational principles derive from philosophy and ethics as well as from political and religious background. To understand specific nature and extent it operates in the modern world it would be necessary to look how it developed over the centuries in the UK. In the 13th century s England, the common law courts operated through the Court of Common Pleas and the King s Bench and could only offer a limited range of remedies, predominantly monetary damages, becoming inflexible and very strict. This was due to a closed categories of available writs, therefore many judgments were regarded as unfair. As a result people became dissatisfied with the system and started petitioning the king for a more suitable remedies. With increasing number of petitions the king began to delegate the function of resolving such petitions to the Chancellor. The chancellors were often clergymen, king s confessors and keepers of the king s conscience, which shaped the character of equity. They developed new, more appropriate remedies for the cases based on individual justice. However, each chancellor had different understanding of fairness giving an overall impression of uncertainty and inconsistency in law. With even more increase of petitions, new court has been created known as the Court of Chancery. In the dark ages or mid evil times, people who behaved abnormally were quickly labelled as being mad or being possessed by spirits. The individuals were often held in isolation with their treatments being very cruel and harsh. In the eighteenth century, a French physician named Philippe Pinel challenged the cruel treatment methods and promoted a gentler and more humane approach. According to the American Psychiatric Association, a psychological disorder is a syndrome marked by a clinically significant disturbance in an individual s cognition, emotion regulation or behavior. Certain behaviors have normal acceptable characteristics and if the behavior falls outside of this acceptable range, it can be considered a disorder. Indeed, since popular culture both reflects current values and teaches them the importance of positive representation there cannot be overlooked (Peele, 2007). As the lead singer of the successful synth pop group, Years and Years, Alexander has accompanied his rise to fame with an increasing desire to be open about his sexuality. His vibrancy offers his fans, many of whom are also LGBTQ+, a sense of value and validity in a society that does not (Respondent 16, 2016, [survey]). That is to say, Olly Alexander s importance lies in him being both a chart topping pop star and visibly gay. At it s most simple, visibility means to be seen. • 26. Appellate Power Vs Supreme Court First of all, it is important to distinguish that the appellate and discretionary powers belonging to the Supreme Court are two separate powers. The appellate power is the power of a higher court to reverse or uphold the ruling of a lower court. The Supreme court is the highest court and thus takes more appeals cases than trial cases. This is due to the limited original jurisdiction of The Supreme Court. Unless the case is between two states, involves the United States as a party, or involves a representative of a foreign nation the U.S. Supreme Court lacks original jurisdiction. The Supreme Court also has limited appellate jurisdiction. The Court can only hear a case if a federal question is presented, The United States federal government ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Allowing for appeals to the highest court allows for important decisions to be made that set precedent for the rest of the courts. It also allows for errors made in the lower court to be corrected. The appellate jurisdiction that The Supreme Court holds is granted by The Constitution. In Article III of the preamble The Supreme Court is only limited by the discretion of Congress. In a way this power has more checks in place than the discretionary powers. One major critic of the appellate power of The Supreme Court is that it allows for lower courts to be invalidated. This can lead to less faith in the lower courts and thus undermines the power of the overall judicial system. Another problem with the appeals process is the amount of useless litigation that results from the ability to appeal. The Supreme Court does not often overturn decisions made by the lower courts and thus most of the cases brought to The Court take up time and resources that might be better used. The process of appeals for the Supreme Court solves some of this problem, but does not completely mitigate it. The review process used by The Supreme Court is highly effective and ensures only cases that need the decision of The Supreme Court reach the justices. As such, the appellate powers of The Supreme Court have few issues and serve an important function in the Judicial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even though we re taught to never talk to or trust strangers, doing so has almost become an instinct. When I walk out to the mailbox at the end of my driveway, I m expecting to see some bills, some magazines, and if I m lucky, something that I ordered off Amazon. Everyday we are relying on that mail carrier not to do certain things: lose or damage any mail. Placing faith in strangers has become an everyday event because we have to in order to have an easier and better experience on earth. Not only do we trust strangers with our mail, but we also put them in charge of cleaning the rooms we stay in. To begin, we all at one point stayed at some sort of hotel. It has been our explanation for the unexplainable, as well a way for us to form a community with those around us. Due to the natural diversity of humans, a varied set of separate religions has formed throughout the world. Religions continue to adapt and inspire each other, however, they all have their differences, as well as internal differences through the observations of each believer. The exterior of the New Brunswick Islamic Center is incredibly misleading. The outside appears similar to a factory, yet, it s the inside that suggests something holier. Public Humiliation As A Deterrent Against Future Crimes Public humiliation can be extremely effective and valuable for improvement in discipline and serves as a deterrent against future crimes. Public shaming has been employed since the beginning of time and is practiced worldwide. Throughout history, the advantage of the practice of public humiliation was exploited by early civilization for the prime and propitious results. In Ancient Rome, public humiliation was frequently utilized during crucifixion, when a person was killed for a sin. Crucifixion was as defined by Dr. Dan Hayden, the most humiliating and degrading form of public death ever devised. (Hayden, Hung On a Tree ). The method of crucifixion was not only shameful for the one being punished but also was as an incentive for the public. It served as a reminder to avoid committing a sin. Although Spain had control of the territories of Cuba and the Philippines, the inhabitants began to grow more and more rebellious as time passed. Regardless of the armistice McKinley proposed to Spain in Cuba and although McKinley was informed that the queen of Spain ordered hostilities be suspended, he asked Congress for authority to intervene in Cuba. Soon after, Congress passed resolves to demand that Spain withdrawal from Cuba. The U.S. also set terms that they will not withdraw from this island until independence was assured in Cuba, also known as the Teller Amendment. It will explain whether or not it is appropriate to do so and what effects it can have on them. Advertisers have an effect on where kids eat, what they wear, what they buy, and where they go for vacations (Poulton). Advertisers will employ celebrities to endorse their products in order to make the product more popular among teens. They will even send text messages to people who sign up about special sales or other advertisements. There are two sides to this argument. One side says it is okay gearing advertisements towards children, and another that says it is not okay. I am on the side that says it is not okay to target children in advertising. The reason being is because it can lead to undisciplined children, money problems, and bad habits in life. On the other side, people agree that targeting children are a good thing. They say this because it teaches them a compromise, promotes creativity, economic benefits, a positive social influence, and educational benefits (Lush, Shannon, Breseman, et al.). In this essay I will find the common grounds between the two sides. When children learn how to compromise, it teaches them how to become independent and how to become smarter consumers. With several writings concerning him, they all relayed too fantastical an image to be convincing as truthful, keeping him in a legendary status. This all changed in 1837, well over a thousand years after his death, when a scholar James Prinsep managed to translate writings on a stone pillar in Delhi. After several other scholars raced to translate similar writings all over the Indian landscape, it was revealed that this King Piyadasi was the same as King Asoka. Even with his history pieced together, Asoka s history is still legendary. He started as a lowly person shunned by his own father and grew to be a ruler of a kingdom that had never seen complete unity. But indeed, despite the face of caring compassion he attempted to convey to the Indian people, and despite the reforms he made to various sectors of his kingdom, it is clear Asoka was only using Buddhism as a way to unite the people and, more importantly, keep them under his control. It is rumored that Asoka s grandmother was a Greek princess, with his lineage being traced back to the Seleucus kingship, and that his Asoka s grandmother would have told him stories of Alexander the Great and other Greek warriors, inspiring Asoka and gearing him towards being the warrior he would become in the Kalinga Wars.
