Alcoholism In James Joyce s Dubliners
In Dubliners by James Joyce, there is a common theme of alcoholism that occurs many times in this
collection of stories. Hardly any of these stories fail to mention the presence and influence of alcohol.
In some of these stories, Joyce puts the focus on the short term consequences of excessive night
drinking, This leads to abusing others and self inflicted pain. In other stories, the focus is on the
effects of a strong addiction that would eventually lead the character(s) to an early trip to the grave.
Examples that showcase this theme of alcoholism can found in The Boarding House, A Little Cloud,
and Counterparts. In The Boarding House, we are introduced to a family that has been affected
negatively by alcohol. We start off with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Single Film Sequence
Analysis of a Single Film Sequence I chose the segment from 15:00 to 18:00 of the film It Should
Happen to You . The scene began with a medium shot of Gladys and the manager. Gladys asked about
renting the billboard to put her name on it. The camera stayed focused on her when she talked. The
manager was first impatient and did not believe that the girl was serious about renting the billboard.
The diegetic sound of the interruptive phone ringing showed that he was busy. Without any mood
music, the viewer could feel a sense of unease in the dialogue between Gladys and the manager in the
office. However, after Gladys showed him her money. The manager changed his attitude. He went to
check the prices for renting the space. The director used panning to shift the camera slightly to focus
him when the manager was talking. The film zoomed in when Gladys was thinking and calculating the
price for renting the billboard, showing Gladys s excited facial expression when she finally made the
decision to rent the billboard. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The shot ended by fading into the next one. There were some overlaps between these two shots. The
director used panning to move the camera when Gladys walked toward us. At the same time, the
background music started. It created a completely different kind of mood compared with the one in the
office. The music was light hearted. When Gladys finally saw the billboard with her name painting on
it, she became more contented. At the same time, the background music changed to be more cheerful
and energetic, which reflects Gladys s emotion and helps the viewer to sympathize with the

Benefit Of Moderate Drinking
Benefits of Moderate Drinking Drinking alcohol can be good for your health and studies have shown
that boozing on occasion has some perks which includes reduced stress, decresed risk of heart attacks,
and lower chances of diabetes. Social drinking is used by many people globally. Kloner et al.(2007)
from the School of Public Health at Harvard University found that moderate amounts of alcohol raises
levels of high density lipoprotein, and higher HDL levels are associated with greater protection against
heart disease. Moderate alcohol consumption has also been linked with beneficial changes ranging
from better sensitivity to insulin to improvements in factors that influence blood clotting. Such
changes would tend to prevent the formation of small blood clots that can block arteries in the heart,
neck, and brain, the ultimate cause of many heart attacks and the most common kind of stroke. This
finding is applicable to both men and women. HDL cholesterol is the well behaved good cholesterol .
It removes harmful bad cholesterol from where it doesn t belong.
Drinking in moderate amounts can lead to certain psychological benefits, as research show. Low
levels of alcohol can reduce stress, anxiety and help reduce tension. Studies show that low levels of
comsupmtion get more sleep on average than those who sleeps in excess. In addition, consumption
can also cause the comsumer to feel more relaxed. These psychological effects of moderate drinking
are positive ones that can be

Character Analysis Of Anne Frank
In 1933 a tragic event caused the holocaust began, this horrific event killed , thousands and millions of
jews because they were considered the lowest ranking race. However there was one girl, Anne Frank,
who was jewish that thought and said this: In spite of everything, I still believe people are really good
at heart. Even through the hatred of everyone to her family and herself, they still pushed through and
saw the good in everyone, and after reading the play with her family going in hiding, I agree with
Anne s famous quote. One of the reasons i side with Anne is the way she does kind actions during the
play, mainly at hanukkah. Although i do agree that Anne s quote is true, there are two sides to the
conversation, and i can see why people don t agree with Anne s quote due to Mr. Van Daan s actions
throughout the play. Although i saw mainly kindness in Anne s actions based on Anne s diary, what
convinced me the most to side with Anne was when they had hanukkah together. On page 74 the
following dialogue takes place:
Anne: Presents.
Narrator: (She darts into her room and hurriedly puts on a little party hat she has improvised from her
lampshade ; a paper flower and bits of ribbon cover it. An elastic goes under her chin. She snatches up
her school satchel bulging with parcels and comes running back.) . In this scene they have been
staying in the annex for six months, they are trying to have hanukkah but it is difficult because they are

One Who Flew The Cuckoo s Nest Literary Analysis
One s awareness of their identity adds to the way they portray themselves and how their physique
could play a role in their identity. In the novel, One Who Flew The Cuckoo s Nest by Ken Kesey;
Chief Bromden is the narrator of the story and for most of the book, he s just an observer. He watches
how McMurphy interacts with the men, what McMurphy is trying to do, and how the staff reacts.
Chief pretends to be deaf and unable to speak; people talk freely around him allowing him to learn
their secrets. The Chief achieves this by acting deaf if I wanted to hear at all. Although he appears
powerless, he actually has a lot of power because of all the knowledge he s gained through
observation and listening in on conversations. Ken Kesey s utilization of Bromden s point of view
illustrates the juxtaposition between his virtually nonexistent identity and overlarge physique. In
Kesey s novel, Bromden s identity changes over time. As a young child, Bromden was always
ignored, by fellow students and adults. This could have been because he was so ... Show more content

Chief Bromden is a very large man with a small sense of self. McMurphy helped Bromden to see the
world that he and the patients lived in and tried to help them break free from it. By the end of the

McMurphy had given Bromden the courage and strength to leave the institution. *insert more

will have the courage to leave just as Bromden did. Ken Kesey s utilization of Bromden s point of

Research Paper On Breakfast At Tiffany s
Breakfast at Tiffany s is truly one of the most famous classical films. This movie centers around a chic
and party loving girl, Holly Golightly. Throughout the movie, we can see that Holly is all about
dressing up and she loves to look put together given any situation. She was an iconic image of the
20th century, ranging from her high chignon to her little black dress and pearls. Her little black dress
was not just a fashion statement; it showed that Holly can present her face to the world with
confidence and is ready to take on anything. She defied women s roles because she was free spirited
and did not (at first) emotionally depend on a man. Audrey Hepburn, the actress who played Holly
Golightly, gave Hollywood a new on screen personality. This film certainly gave Hepburn a new
persona; she is famous for her role as Holly and will be remembered as playing the New York City
call girl. When Breakfast at Tiffany s came out in the 60s, women s roles were simplistic and involved
doing household chores. They would leave college, marry young, and financially depend on their
husband. Their homes were in suburban areas and conformed to society. ... Show more content on

Yet, when the movie first opened on October 5, 1961, it was a huge success within days; it had an
opening of $178,000. Not only was it a success in the United States, it was also a hit overseas. The
box office takings in the US was around $4 million and in Europe it was $6 million. The movie helped
business sales, such as copies of Holly s coat and purse being in high demand and animal shelters even
reported ginger toms being sold quickly. It won Oscars for its score and song and the script and
Audrey Hepburn were also nominated. Although Breakfast at Tiffany s came out decades ago, it is still
widely received as a classic. Holly s personality and struggle to mend commitment and freedom speak

Dormitory
Dormitory History
From the beginning of the college in 1922 until the mid to late 1960s, the college had functioned
predominantly as a commuter campus. Most of the students were Arkansas City or Cowley County
residents, certainly within driving distance to the college. The few who were non residents were able
to obtain housing from private citizens.
During the 1960s, the number of students coming from outside Cowley County began to increase
dramatically. College personnel such as Del Heidebrecht, Ben Cleveland, Bill Scott, and Dr. Gwen
Nelson attempted to secure privately owned facilities in which students could rent. At the same time
enrollment was increasing, the college also was losing potential students because of a lack of ... Show

Its capacity was 40 students. Expansion of the facility began on Jan. 2, 1989, bringing the capacity to
86 students. The building, now known as the Kirke W. Dale Dormitory, was completed in time for the
1989 fall semester. The William R. Docking Dormitory was ready for occupancy at the beginning of
the 1994 fall semester, and the college s newest dormitory, Oscar Kimmell, was completed in time for
the start of the 2001 fall semester.
Typesssss
Traditional
Traditional style dormitories consist of a room shared by two people with access to communal
bathrooms, laundry facilities and sometimes kitchens. The buildings may house both sexes, but living
spaces and communal bathrooms will be assigned to specific sexes usually by floor or by section. The
benefits of this style are that all facilities except individual dorm rooms will be cleaned by janitorial
staff. The downside of this style of dormitory is the lack of privacy that may occur in communal
bathrooms.
Suites
Suite style dormitories consist of two or more rooms connected by a bathroom. Usually, there are two
people assigned to one room. Having a bathroom connected to your dorm room is convenient in the
middle of the night or when you need to grab a quick shower. However, it falls on the occupants to
clean the bathroom facilities
Single Rooms
Some colleges offer private rooms in their dormitories. These rooms will be occupied by one person.

The Wide Spread Problem Of Graffiti Culture
Graffiti art is a world wide spread problem, it does not just occur in one part of the world. As stated,
Professor Snyder, 40, argues that while graffiti culture emerged around the same time as hip hop, in
the early 1970s, graffiti in fact comes from a variety of cultural sources (Chan, 2009, p.1). For a fact,
it is not a specific type of person doing it either, these petty crimes. It could be anyone around you:
Whatever their class, race, ethnicity religion, or age, writers define themselves not by what they look
like, or what language they speak, or what clothes they wear, but by what they do. Their identities are
as writers first, and as members of ethnic, religious, and other subgroups second (Chan, 2009, P.1).
In the beginning it was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Or why would someone draw that. For example, [f]or many who catch sight of a tag or a mural on a
wall, their glance leads quickly to speculation as to why someone wrote that word or drew an image in
such a place (Halsey Young, 2006, p.3). Many questions asked and are only answered by, [t]he
sociality of shared peer activity is another important reason why writers are attracted to graffiti culture
( Halsey Young, 2006, p.4). Academic writing on graffiti has approached it in a number of ways,
encompassing its analysis as sociological subculture, as juvenile delinquency, as a historical
phenomenon and as a regulatory problem (Halsey Young, 2006, p.2). There is said that many young
adults like to do graffiti art because it causes a rush through there body they get. A reaction that feels
good enough for them to express themselves over graffiti. A theory was shared, [b]roken windows
theory, which holds that low level and petty crimes, if not addressed, create an atmosphere conductive
to more serious and violent crimes (Chan, 2009, p.2). Many believe if they do not stop crimes young
or discipline kids at a young age it cause more violent people in the future. Graffiti is not just a crime
in many ways it is more than people see it as just like shared, I m not trying to make an argument that
graffiti is art and not vandalism, Professor snyder said in a phone interview, I hope I ve made it clear
that it s both (Chan, 2009, p.2). [t]he shifting threshold between art and vandalism : writers reactions
to blank surfaces and clean spaces, with other criminal activities (Halsey Young, 2006, p.2). Every

love God as he loves us.
Edwards also fails to emphasize a major thematic concept of the Bible love. The word love is used in
539 verses of the Bible. In this sermon it is used only four times. Only two of those times directly
refer to Christ s love for us. Edwards seems to have shaded this crucial aspect of salvation.
In the very small section of Edwards sermon that he gives his listeners a way out of being dropped like
a spider into the fiery lake, he fails to give their terror release, still making his message into a threat.
Jesus never threatened. God never finds pleasure in the damning of men s souls. The Lord wishes only
for us to be with him.
I agree with Edwards that if we do not come to Christ and obey His commands that we will spend
eternity in hell, but I also believe that our God is a god of infinite grace and love. This is something
Edwards seems not to have felt or appears to have interpreted in a way that makes God into a spiteful,
jealous god waiting to crush us at any moment. If only Edwards would have realized how crucial
Christ s message of love was to the salvation of his congregation. His powerful invitation of
deliverance would have given people hope and a more

Patricia Dunn, placed number 17 on FORBES list of most powerful women, landed herself four felony

She had to have at least had an inkling that what she was about to embark upon was sensitive. Not
only sensitive but dangerous! Dangerous in that cautions should always preface any actions involving
personal information. Patricia Dunn is too smart to successfully play dumb.
Utilitarianism reasoning does not care whether the benefits are produced by lies, manipulation, or
coercion. (Issues in Ethics V2 N1 Winter 1989) Patricia Dunn did not use utilitarianism aspects of

Gender Roles In Kate Chopin s A Pair Of Silk Stockings
In the story, A Pair of Silk Stockings by Kate Chopin, the stereotypical role of females is shown. Mrs.
Sommers is mother as told in the beginning of the story. Typically, we think of women as born to be
mothers and have nurturing qualities. When she is given a great deal of money, she uses it for her kids
and is constantly thinking about them rather than herself. In the third paragraph, Mrs. Sommers is
carefully dividing the money amongst her children and puts their needs first. Mothers are known for
doing this for their children and she is no exception. When Mrs. Sommers is shopping for her
stockings, a small treat for herself, we see even deeper into her selfless mind. She could not realize
that they belonged to her and were a part of herself. This quote shows that even after she ... Show

Society sometimes sees women as obsessed with appearance and only what is on the outside. This
story may lead you to believe that that is true, but can also change your mind about that thought. Her
stockings and boots and well fitting gloves had worked marvels in her bearing had given her a feeling
of assurance, a sense of belonging to the well dress multitude. In this part of the story we see how
Mrs. Sommers abundance of funds gave her a sense of confidence because she was able to purchase
nicer belongings for herself. Although in some situations this can be seen in a negative way, this is
something we should recognize as positive. When Money can t buy happiness is said, I definitely
agree with that, but there is no denying that personal belongings increase confidence and happiness to
an extent. I believe Mrs. Sommers would put this stereotypical role/mindset to rest because we can all
relate to her to our own mothers, or at least I can. In

that Cervical Cancer is prevented in a hundred other ways, including adequate sunlight exposure and
vitamin D consumption, supplementation with probiotics, adequate intake of selenium and zinc,

March 16 (449). Allen points out that the women who did receive the vaccine had no major side
effects. In other case Cervical Cancer strikes 14,000 American women each year killing one fourth of
them (449). If a young girl, a parent doesn t want their daughter to get the vaccine or even has second

Hiroshima Bombing Essay
Hiroshima and Nagasaki Bombing
The United States of America became the first and the only realm to use the atomic bomb weaponry
during the war. The event happened when the nation dropped the atomic bomb on the city of
Hiroshima in japan. Although the nation had their intentions on dropping the weapon, it brought a lot
of negative impacts both to Japan and to America. Over seventy years later the bombing impact is still
very significant not only to the affected nation, but also to world history on war. Although the atomic
bombing of Hiroshima brought an end to World War II, it is argued that it started a cold war between
the two nations.
The United States was developing atomic weapons from the year 1940 even after being warned by
Albert Einstein on the research on nuclear weapons by Nazi Germany. By the time the United States
tested its first atomic bombing Mexico in July 1945, Germany had already been defeated. However,
the war against Japan in the pacific was increasingly becoming furious. The then American president
Harry S. Truman had been warned by some of his advisers on the casualties that would befall America
if they went ahead with the bombing. However, the president ordered for the use of the new weapon in
an attempt to end the war.
On the 6th of August 1945, a five ton bomb was dropped on Hiroshima city in japan. The very
powerful blast brought down a four square miles of the city reducing it to ruins. Over 80,000 people
were killed on the spot and a lot more died

Research Paper On American Atheism
American Atheism and Why it Exists
Atheism is disbelief or lack of belief in the existence of God or gods, they reject religion as apart of
not only a rejection of ignorance, but also a rejection of their religious family and association of
religion itself, says Catherine L. and Caldwell Harris who are published in the Department of
Psychology for Boston University, Lesley College,University of Haifa, and Trinity College. This is a
stark contrast to theism, which is the belief in god and is the case for many Americans. This
demographic is about 83% of America s population, according to the most recent census. About 16%
of the population, or about 34,169,000 people are of an unaffiliated position, which would include

saying that college opened their eyes or that there was a person in the sky watching them but also how

Influential people use words to motivate others to become successful and to get back up. Stephen
Curry insists on giving his fans confidence by saying, Every time I rise up, I have confidence that I m

didn t tell his story in this quote, there is a story behind it. A lot of people fear failure, and I think that
holds a lot of people back. But a lot of times, it s possibly the best thing that could happen to you
because you learn how to get back up, you learn how to do it better and you re stronger from that, said

Going through our warm up, like all volleyball games start, Brenna and I get our arms loose and get
our brains ready for action. We throw the ball back and forth. We go through all the drills of our warm

ball. One yells, Got it! while the other just stand there assuming the other one knows they are going to

How Did Woodrow Wilson s 14 Point Plan
President Woodrow Wilson addressed Congress with a proposed 14 point plan before the end of World
War I. The President did not want to fight in the war only to protect England and France, instead he
wanted to end all wars. These fourteen points were made specifically to provide peace that would last
forever and prevent another World War from happening. Wilson plan was to create peace throughout
the world with his fourteen point system; however, after discussing with the other Allied powers it
became evident that his 14 point plan would not be put into action without a lot of compromising. The
allied powers did not agree with Wilson s idealism of world peace. British Prime Minister, David

Cycle Of Recidivism Essay
A long term study conducted by Bureau of Justice Statistics found that the average five year
recidivism rates of 404,638 prisoners released in 2005 is 76.6% among thirty states in America
(Matthew, Alexia, Howard, 2014, p. 1). In other words, most of the released prisoners did not escape
the cycle of recidivism and were sent back to the prison after time. This indicates that the present
American justice system, which focuses on punishment as Benson (2003) noted, fails to rehabilitate
prisoners efficiently and is far from achieving the goal of reducing crime rates (p. 46). What is more,
the recidivism of prisoners is becoming a great plague of society, because it not only imposes a threat
to public safety but also places an enormous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although details of Sycamore Tree projects running in different countries, such as length of the
project, are slightly different, they all aim at helping offenders realize the impact of crime and making
them become more responsible (Marshall, 2005, p. 2; Feasey Williams, 2009, p. 3; Bakker, n.d., p. 3).
It is a creative project. In daily life, victims and offenders seldom meet each other after the court.
However, this project provides a platform for victims and offenders to communicate, to find out the
distress others have experienced and to learn how to lead a better life together. Thus, it may be a
promising way to reduce re offending rates.
This project was evaluated to be effective in raising the average level of victim empathy and lowering
the average level of anticipation of re offending. However, it is not working for all offenders, and it
may increase the level of shame, which can lead to re offending. Evaluations of Sycamore Tree
projects running in the United Kingdom and New Zealand revealed that offenders had lower
anticipation of re offending and higher victim awareness after Sycamore Tree projects (Feasey
Williams, 2009, p. 17; Bakker, n.d., pp. 7 8). Although no research has been done to show the direct
impact of Sycamore Tree project on re offending rates, Pithers (1999) found that a high level of victim

Ragged Dick Analysis
Suggestions for Success Riddled with Lack of Acknowledgment of Reality
Ragged Dick, a pull yourself up by the bootstraps children s book about an honest and great kid
named, shockingly, Ragged Dick is a story revolving around the rags to riches journey of the
protagonist. While being a children s book Alger still creates one dimensional characters to in a
skillful way to help guide his young readers into seeing all the qualities he believes are good in Dick.
Specifically, Alger utilizes Johnny Nolan, Frank, and Henry Fosdick to suggest the traits that are
harmful and necessary for Dick s path to successful adulthood, but fails to accurately depict the reality
of the world.
Alger introduces Frank and Johnny Nolan into the story to imply the attributes he believes would
impede Dick s path to success. Alger intends Frank s lack of street smarts to show the reader the
susceptibility to the vulnerability that arises. In the interactions with the con man who asks to trade
twenty dollars for the wallet and promises (They ll) get (their money) back, and a good deal more,
highlights Franks naïveté and lack of street smarts by juxtaposing his actions with that of Dick who
outsmarts the con man (44). Being too sheltered, Frank is not as street smart as Dick who has learnt
through living on the streets. While Frank is rich, his naïveté allows him to be swindled which would
slow down his road to success. In this way, Alger implies that by not being naïve, Dick is not able to

Homo Sapiens And The Extinction
Homo sapiens Role in Neanderthal Extinction
It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one
that is most adaptable to change (Evolution Quotes). So far in the saga that is Earth humanity has been
on the winning side of change. Humans have evolved over time from simple hunter gathers to an
advanced species of builders and thinkers. Humans have built complex cities, created advanced
medicine, and even left their own plant for the moon. Despite all these remarkable achievements
humans were not the first species of Homo to expand across the globe. Before Homo sapiens
dominated the Earth, their cousins Homo Neanderthals roamed Europe and Asia hunting big game and
thriving. However, between 30,000 and 40,00 years ago the Neanderthal population began to decrease
drastically. It is unclear what caused this drastic drop in Neanderthal population, but one leading
theory points an evolutionary finger at Homo sapiens. The introduction of Homo sapiens into the
Neanderthal environment negatively affected the Neanderthal population size through increased food
completion, Homo Sapien violence, and interbreeding Homo Neanderthals were a stocky species,
which had an average height of about 5ft 5in and a large brain similar to humans. Neanderthals were
well adapted to live in the cold temperature of northern Europe, and in their prime the Neanderthal
population is estimated to be as large as 70,000 individuals (Bocquet 2013, 1).

Essay on The Love of Dido and Aeneas
The love of Dido and Aeneas: Could it have been viable? As one hopes to have a long term
relationship, one cannot assure its existence or permanence. Some relationships are destined to fail
from the start. Dido and Aeneas s relationship exemplifies this. When Dido and Aeneas engage in their
relationship, they fail to realize how they each perceive their love for each other. Dido perceives their
relationship as a marriage, whereas Aeneas perceives their relationship as something merely sexual.
By failing to understand their love for each other, their relationship was doomed from the start. In
addition, their relationship could have never lasted because Aeneas was fated to marry Lavinia and not

He perceived it more as a romantic fling; Aeneas only engaged in a relationship with Dido out of lust.
Although Aeneas acts like Dido s husband by building walls for Carthage, he never explicitly accepts
the position. He only stays in Carthage because of the benefits made available to him: Dido s love and
her luxurious gifts. When he is about to leave, Dido berates him for deceiving her in their marriage.
Adamant that he never entered upon a marriage, Aeneas replies, Do not think/I meant to be deceitful
and slip away./I never held the torches of a bridegroom,/Never entered upon the pact of marriage (IV,
465 8). His response to Dido reveals Aeneas s ignorance in their relationship; he never realizes her
deep obsession with him. When he leaves, he wants to console her, but does not act upon it because he
feels he has committed no wrong and he has obligations to fulfill. Even when he visits the underworld,
he still does not understand how Dido felt or how much he was at fault for her death. He asks her, Was
I, was I the cause? (VI, 616). His ignorance as to how she felt and what she wanted shows his inability
to be cognizant of others feelings, which makes him look stupid. The least Aeneas could have done
was to have said goodbye, but instead he excuses himself by claiming the gods forced him to leave
her. Due to misperception and fate, the love of Dido and Aeneas could have never lasted. When Dido
and Aeneas engaged

Definition of Science Fiction Essay
Perhaps one of the most versatile genres in films, television, books, artwork and any number of things
today is science fiction. Many times I have seen a sci fi movie filed under comedy or drama. That is
one of the major things that has led to my love for science fiction, the simple fact that it can be so
much more than just science fiction. I would like to present a definition of what science fiction is in
this paper. My definition will not be exact, because so many people have a different idea of what
counts as sci fi and, not only that, but we may have found yet another venue for science fiction by the
time this paper is complete. In order to define what science fiction is and to support my definition, I
am going to give some examples ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One could argue that this is just a fictional story or even fantasy, but it still retains an element of
science and, therefore, falls into the category of science fiction.
Time travel: is it really science fiction? Some people would not agree that it is true sci fi since there
are so many arguments as to why time travel cannot exist. Personally, I think time travel is science
fiction since it is based on our laws of physics and can be shown mathematically using Physics
(relativity, etc.). Since I believe time travel falls into this category, I would like to give a great example
of a time traveling story. H.G. Wells The Time Machine is a fantastic story about a scientist who is
ridiculed by his peers for his theories on time travel and even examples he shows them. He ends up
traveling through time in a machine that he built and has a fantastic adventure.
An interesting addition to this list of science fiction is Jurassic Park, the book and movie. The first
time that someone mentioned this was sci fi to me I was a little surprised, but after thinking about it
for a second I realized they were right. The dinosaurs were created using a scientific process and,
somewhat, neatly explained within the story. Every time I watched that movie I had never stopped to
think about what genre it was, which happens with many people I m sure and not just with that movie.
This is one of my favorite examples of science fiction because people normally just think

The Parliamentary Debate On The Munich Agreement Essay
The Parliamentary Debate on the Munich Agreement World War II is among the most significant wars
in American history. Although the U.S. didn t join the war efforts directly until after the bombing of
Pearl Harbor, the impact the war had on the U.S. was great. Among other causes, the Munich
Agreement was one of many things that came into in existence paving the way for WWII to begin. As
addressed in the Parliamentary Debate on the Munich Agreement, many in the British Parliament
(Winston Churchill, Neville Chamberlain, etc.) discussed the course of action that should be taken
regarding Germany and Hitler. Many, including Neville Chamberlain signed this agreement in hopes
of maintaining peace, others, like Winston Churchill believed that holding for peace would ultimately
lead to their downfall. The Munich Agreement was a pact that allowed Germany to annex many parts
of Czechoslovakia also known as Sudetenland; Sudetenland was along Germany s borders and this is
where many of the citizens were native in the language but of different races. These plans on
Sudetenland, if acted on would inevitably cause another world war, ...it became known in May 1938
that Hitler and his generals were drawing up a plan for the occupation of Czechoslovakia. (Munich
Agreement). France and Great Britain were allies with Czechoslovakia at this time; Czechoslovakia
was also involved in a treaty with the Soviet Union declaring the readiness of the Russian military to

  • 2. Alcoholism In James Joyce s Dubliners In Dubliners by James Joyce, there is a common theme of alcoholism that occurs many times in this collection of stories. Hardly any of these stories fail to mention the presence and influence of alcohol. In some of these stories, Joyce puts the focus on the short term consequences of excessive night drinking, This leads to abusing others and self inflicted pain. In other stories, the focus is on the effects of a strong addiction that would eventually lead the character(s) to an early trip to the grave. Examples that showcase this theme of alcoholism can found in The Boarding House, A Little Cloud, and Counterparts. In The Boarding House, we are introduced to a family that has been affected negatively by alcohol. We start off with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Single Film Sequence Analysis of a Single Film Sequence I chose the segment from 15:00 to 18:00 of the film It Should Happen to You . The scene began with a medium shot of Gladys and the manager. Gladys asked about renting the billboard to put her name on it. The camera stayed focused on her when she talked. The manager was first impatient and did not believe that the girl was serious about renting the billboard. The diegetic sound of the interruptive phone ringing showed that he was busy. Without any mood music, the viewer could feel a sense of unease in the dialogue between Gladys and the manager in the office. However, after Gladys showed him her money. The manager changed his attitude. He went to check the prices for renting the space. The director used panning to shift the camera slightly to focus him when the manager was talking. The film zoomed in when Gladys was thinking and calculating the price for renting the billboard, showing Gladys s excited facial expression when she finally made the decision to rent the billboard. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The shot ended by fading into the next one. There were some overlaps between these two shots. The director used panning to move the camera when Gladys walked toward us. At the same time, the background music started. It created a completely different kind of mood compared with the one in the office. The music was light hearted. When Gladys finally saw the billboard with her name painting on it, she became more contented. At the same time, the background music changed to be more cheerful and energetic, which reflects Gladys s emotion and helps the viewer to sympathize with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Benefit Of Moderate Drinking Benefits of Moderate Drinking Drinking alcohol can be good for your health and studies have shown that boozing on occasion has some perks which includes reduced stress, decresed risk of heart attacks, and lower chances of diabetes. Social drinking is used by many people globally. Kloner et al.(2007) from the School of Public Health at Harvard University found that moderate amounts of alcohol raises levels of high density lipoprotein, and higher HDL levels are associated with greater protection against heart disease. Moderate alcohol consumption has also been linked with beneficial changes ranging from better sensitivity to insulin to improvements in factors that influence blood clotting. Such changes would tend to prevent the formation of small blood clots that can block arteries in the heart, neck, and brain, the ultimate cause of many heart attacks and the most common kind of stroke. This finding is applicable to both men and women. HDL cholesterol is the well behaved good cholesterol . It removes harmful bad cholesterol from where it doesn t belong. Drinking in moderate amounts can lead to certain psychological benefits, as research show. Low levels of alcohol can reduce stress, anxiety and help reduce tension. Studies show that low levels of comsupmtion get more sleep on average than those who sleeps in excess. In addition, consumption can also cause the comsumer to feel more relaxed. Character Analysis Of Anne Frank In 1933 a tragic event caused the holocaust began, this horrific event killed , thousands and millions of jews because they were considered the lowest ranking race. However there was one girl, Anne Frank, who was jewish that thought and said this: In spite of everything, I still believe people are really good at heart. Even through the hatred of everyone to her family and herself, they still pushed through and saw the good in everyone, and after reading the play with her family going in hiding, I agree with Anne s famous quote. One of the reasons i side with Anne is the way she does kind actions during the play, mainly at hanukkah. Although i do agree that Anne s quote is true, there are two sides to the conversation, and i can see why people don t agree with Anne s quote due to Mr. Van Daan s actions throughout the play. Although i saw mainly kindness in Anne s actions based on Anne s diary, what convinced me the most to side with Anne was when they had hanukkah together. On page 74 the following dialogue takes place: Anne: Presents. Narrator: (She darts into her room and hurriedly puts on a little party hat she has improvised from her lampshade ; a paper flower and bits of ribbon cover it. An elastic goes under her chin. She snatches up her school satchel bulging with parcels and comes running back.) . • 6. One Who Flew The Cuckoo s Nest Literary Analysis One s awareness of their identity adds to the way they portray themselves and how their physique could play a role in their identity. In the novel, One Who Flew The Cuckoo s Nest by Ken Kesey; Chief Bromden is the narrator of the story and for most of the book, he s just an observer. He watches how McMurphy interacts with the men, what McMurphy is trying to do, and how the staff reacts. Chief pretends to be deaf and unable to speak; people talk freely around him allowing him to learn their secrets. The Chief achieves this by acting deaf if I wanted to hear at all. Although he appears powerless, he actually has a lot of power because of all the knowledge he s gained through observation and listening in on conversations. Ken Kesey s utilization of Bromden s point of view illustrates the juxtaposition between his virtually nonexistent identity and overlarge physique. In Kesey s novel, Bromden s identity changes over time. As a young child, Bromden was always ignored, by fellow students and adults. This could have been because he was so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chief Bromden is a very large man with a small sense of self. By the end of the story, Bromden saved McMurphy from living in a world of pain and no more opportunities. McMurphy had given Bromden the courage and strength to leave the institution. *insert more evidence* Using Bromden s point of view, the reader gets a sense of hope that perhaps other inmates will have the courage to leave just as Bromden did. • 7. Research Paper On Breakfast At Tiffany s Breakfast at Tiffany s is truly one of the most famous classical films. This movie centers around a chic and party loving girl, Holly Golightly. Throughout the movie, we can see that Holly is all about dressing up and she loves to look put together given any situation. She was an iconic image of the 20th century, ranging from her high chignon to her little black dress and pearls. Her little black dress was not just a fashion statement; it showed that Holly can present her face to the world with confidence and is ready to take on anything. She defied women s roles because she was free spirited and did not (at first) emotionally depend on a man. Audrey Hepburn, the actress who played Holly Golightly, gave Hollywood a new on screen personality. This film certainly gave Hepburn a new persona; she is famous for her role as Holly and will be remembered as playing the New York City call girl. When Breakfast at Tiffany s came out in the 60s, women s roles were simplistic and involved doing household chores. They would leave college, marry young, and financially depend on their husband. Their homes were in suburban areas and conformed to society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yet, when the movie first opened on October 5, 1961, it was a huge success within days; it had an opening of $178,000. Not only was it a success in the United States, it was also a hit overseas. The box office takings in the US was around $4 million and in Europe it was $6 million. The movie helped business sales, such as copies of Holly s coat and purse being in high demand and animal shelters even reported ginger toms being sold quickly. It won Oscars for its score and song and the script and Audrey Hepburn were also nominated. Although Breakfast at Tiffany s came out decades ago, it is still widely received as a classic. Most of the students were Arkansas City or Cowley County residents, certainly within driving distance to the college. The few who were non residents were able to obtain housing from private citizens. During the 1960s, the number of students coming from outside Cowley County began to increase dramatically. Docking Dormitory was ready for occupancy at the beginning of the 1994 fall semester, and the college s newest dormitory, Oscar Kimmell, was completed in time for the start of the 2001 fall semester. Typesssss Traditional Traditional style dormitories consist of a room shared by two people with access to communal bathrooms, laundry facilities and sometimes kitchens. The buildings may house both sexes, but living spaces and communal bathrooms will be assigned to specific sexes usually by floor or by section. The benefits of this style are that all facilities except individual dorm rooms will be cleaned by janitorial staff. The downside of this style of dormitory is the lack of privacy that may occur in communal bathrooms. Suites Suite style dormitories consist of two or more rooms connected by a bathroom. Usually, there are two people assigned to one room. Having a bathroom connected to your dorm room is convenient in the middle of the night or when you need to grab a quick shower. However, it falls on the occupants to clean the bathroom facilities Single Rooms Some colleges offer private rooms in their dormitories. These rooms will be occupied by one person. • 10. The Wide Spread Problem Of Graffiti Culture Graffiti art is a world wide spread problem, it does not just occur in one part of the world. As stated, Professor Snyder, 40, argues that while graffiti culture emerged around the same time as hip hop, in the early 1970s, graffiti in fact comes from a variety of cultural sources (Chan, 2009, p.1). For a fact, it is not a specific type of person doing it either, these petty crimes. It could be anyone around you: Whatever their class, race, ethnicity religion, or age, writers define themselves not by what they look like, or what language they speak, or what clothes they wear, but by what they do. Their identities are as writers first, and as members of ethnic, religious, and other subgroups second (Chan, 2009, P.1). In the beginning it was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many questions asked and are only answered by, [t]he sociality of shared peer activity is another important reason why writers are attracted to graffiti culture ( Halsey Young, 2006, p.4). Academic writing on graffiti has approached it in a number of ways, encompassing its analysis as sociological subculture, as juvenile delinquency, as a historical phenomenon and as a regulatory problem (Halsey Young, 2006, p.2). There is said that many young adults like to do graffiti art because it causes a rush through there body they get. A reaction that feels good enough for them to express themselves over graffiti. A theory was shared, [b]roken windows theory, which holds that low level and petty crimes, if not addressed, create an atmosphere conductive to more serious and violent crimes (Chan, 2009, p.2). Many believe if they do not stop crimes young or discipline kids at a young age it cause more violent people in the future. Graffiti is not just a crime in many ways it is more than people see it as just like shared, I m not trying to make an argument that graffiti is art and not vandalism, Professor snyder said in a phone interview, I hope I ve made it clear that it s both (Chan, 2009, p.2). Edwards seems to have shaded this crucial aspect of salvation. In the very small section of Edwards sermon that he gives his listeners a way out of being dropped like a spider into the fiery lake, he fails to give their terror release, still making his message into a threat. I agree with Edwards that if we do not come to Christ and obey His commands that we will spend eternity in hell, but I also believe that our God is a god of infinite grace and love. This is something Edwards seems not to have felt or appears to have interpreted in a way that makes God into a spiteful, jealous god waiting to crush us at any moment. He questions how Ceaser might change his nature when coming into power in line 14, and uses metaphors to compare him to a poisonous snake who would prey on power, to excuse his decision. He continues this metaphor when alluding Caesar to the demon from the Garden of Eden and declaring Caesar must be stopped before he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Native American Issues With all of these issues at play, some people believe that the federal and state governments should be more involved with the problems the native people face by giving Native Americans greater protection over their rights. After all, according to Chief Justice Marshall in 1831, the federal government has a special obligation to care for Native Americans. One way the government can assist Native Americans is by providing more funds to Native American communities such as in areas of healthcare and education. Currently, the Bureau of Indian Affairs is in charge of a variety of services, ranging from some housing improvement, social services, job training, education, land management, law enforcement, tribal courts, and infrastructure. • 30. Cycle Of Recidivism Essay A long term study conducted by Bureau of Justice Statistics found that the average five year recidivism rates of 404,638 prisoners released in 2005 is 76.6% among thirty states in America (Matthew, Alexia, Howard, 2014, p. 1). In other words, most of the released prisoners did not escape the cycle of recidivism and were sent back to the prison after time. This indicates that the present American justice system, which focuses on punishment as Benson (2003) noted, fails to rehabilitate prisoners efficiently and is far from achieving the goal of reducing crime rates (p. 46). What is more, the recidivism of prisoners is becoming a great plague of society, because it not only imposes a threat to public safety but also places an enormous ... Although details of Sycamore Tree projects running in different countries, such as length of the project, are slightly different, they all aim at helping offenders realize the impact of crime and making them become more responsible (Marshall, 2005, p. 2; Feasey Williams, 2009, p. 3; Bakker, n.d., p. 3). It is a creative project. In daily life, victims and offenders seldom meet each other after the court. However, this project provides a platform for victims and offenders to communicate, to find out the distress others have experienced and to learn how to lead a better life together. Thus, it may be a promising way to reduce re offending rates. This project was evaluated to be effective in raising the average level of victim empathy and lowering the average level of anticipation of re offending. However, it is not working for all offenders, and it may increase the level of shame, which can lead to re offending. Evaluations of Sycamore Tree projects running in the United Kingdom and New Zealand revealed that offenders had lower anticipation of re offending and higher victim awareness after Sycamore Tree projects (Feasey Williams, 2009, p. 17; Bakker, n.d., pp. 7 8). Although no research has been done to show the direct impact of Sycamore Tree project on re offending rates, Pithers (1999) found that a high level of victim empathy ... • 31. Ragged Dick Analysis Suggestions for Success Riddled with Lack of Acknowledgment of Reality Ragged Dick, a pull yourself up by the bootstraps children s book about an honest and great kid named, shockingly, Ragged Dick is a story revolving around the rags to riches journey of the protagonist. While being a children s book Alger still creates one dimensional characters to in a skillful way to help guide his young readers into seeing all the qualities he believes are good in Dick. Specifically, Alger utilizes Johnny Nolan, Frank, and Henry Fosdick to suggest the traits that are harmful and necessary for Dick s path to successful adulthood, but fails to accurately depict the reality of the world. Alger introduces Frank and Johnny Nolan into the story to imply the attributes he believes would impede Dick s path to success. Alger intends Frank s lack of street smarts to show the reader the susceptibility to the vulnerability that arises. In the interactions with the con man who asks to trade twenty dollars for the wallet and promises (They ll) get (their money) back, and a good deal more, highlights Franks naïveté and lack of street smarts by juxtaposing his actions with that of Dick who outsmarts the con man (44). Being too sheltered, Frank is not as street smart as Dick who has learnt through living on the streets. While Frank is rich, his naïveté allows him to be swindled which would slow down his road to success. In this way, Alger implies that by not being naïve, Dick is not able to be ... • 32. Homo Sapiens And The Extinction Homo sapiens Role in Neanderthal Extinction It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is most adaptable to change (Evolution Quotes). So far in the saga that is Earth humanity has been on the winning side of change. Humans have evolved over time from simple hunter gathers to an advanced species of builders and thinkers. Humans have built complex cities, created advanced medicine, and even left their own plant for the moon. Despite all these remarkable achievements humans were not the first species of Homo to expand across the globe. Before Homo sapiens dominated the Earth, their cousins Homo Neanderthals roamed Europe and Asia hunting big game and thriving. However, between 30,000 and 40,00 years ago the Neanderthal population began to decrease drastically. It is unclear what caused this drastic drop in Neanderthal population, but one leading theory points an evolutionary finger at Homo sapiens. The introduction of Homo sapiens into the Neanderthal environment negatively affected the Neanderthal population size through increased food completion, Homo Sapien violence, and interbreeding Homo Neanderthals were a stocky species, which had an average height of about 5ft 5in and a large brain similar to humans. Neanderthals were well adapted to live in the cold temperature of northern Europe, and in their prime the Neanderthal population is estimated to be as large as 70,000 individuals (Bocquet 2013, 1). ... • 33. Essay on The Love of Dido and Aeneas The love of Dido and Aeneas: Could it have been viable? As one hopes to have a long term relationship, one cannot assure its existence or permanence. Some relationships are destined to fail from the start. Dido and Aeneas s relationship exemplifies this. When Dido and Aeneas engage in their relationship, they fail to realize how they each perceive their love for each other. Dido perceives their relationship as a marriage, whereas Aeneas perceives their relationship as something merely sexual. By failing to understand their love for each other, their relationship was doomed from the start. In addition, their relationship could have never lasted because Aeneas was fated to marry Lavinia and not Dido. Aeneas had to marry Lavinia because it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He perceived it more as a romantic fling; Aeneas only engaged in a relationship with Dido out of lust. Although Aeneas acts like Dido s husband by building walls for Carthage, he never explicitly accepts the position. He only stays in Carthage because of the benefits made available to him: Dido s love and her luxurious gifts. When he is about to leave, Dido berates him for deceiving her in their marriage. Adamant that he never entered upon a marriage, Aeneas replies, Do not think/I meant to be deceitful and slip away./I never held the torches of a bridegroom,/Never entered upon the pact of marriage (IV, 465 8). His response to Dido reveals Aeneas s ignorance in their relationship; he never realizes her deep obsession with him. When he leaves, he wants to console her, but does not act upon it because he feels he has committed no wrong and he has obligations to fulfill. Even when he visits the underworld, he still does not understand how Dido felt or how much he was at fault for her death. He asks her, Was I, was I the cause? (VI, 616). His ignorance as to how she felt and what she wanted shows his inability to be cognizant of others feelings, which makes him look stupid. The least Aeneas could have done was to have said goodbye, but instead he excuses himself by claiming the gods forced him to leave her. Due to misperception and fate, the love of Dido and Aeneas could have never lasted. When Dido and Aeneas engaged ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Definition of Science Fiction Essay Perhaps one of the most versatile genres in films, television, books, artwork and any number of things today is science fiction. Many times I have seen a sci fi movie filed under comedy or drama. That is one of the major things that has led to my love for science fiction, the simple fact that it can be so much more than just science fiction. I would like to present a definition of what science fiction is in this paper. My definition will not be exact, because so many people have a different idea of what counts as sci fi and, not only that, but we may have found yet another venue for science fiction by the time this paper is complete. In order to define what science fiction is and to support my definition, I am going to give some examples ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One could argue that this is just a fictional story or even fantasy, but it still retains an element of science and, therefore, falls into the category of science fiction. Time travel: is it really science fiction? Some people would not agree that it is true sci fi since there are so many arguments as to why time travel cannot exist. Personally, I think time travel is science fiction since it is based on our laws of physics and can be shown mathematically using Physics (relativity, etc.). Since I believe time travel falls into this category, I would like to give a great example of a time traveling story. H.G. Wells The Time Machine is a fantastic story about a scientist who is ridiculed by his peers for his theories on time travel and even examples he shows them. He ends up traveling through time in a machine that he built and has a fantastic adventure. An interesting addition to this list of science fiction is Jurassic Park, the book and movie. The first time that someone mentioned this was sci fi to me I was a little surprised, but after thinking about it for a second I realized they were right. The dinosaurs were created using a scientific process and, somewhat, neatly explained within the story. Every time I watched that movie I had never stopped to think about what genre it was, which happens with many people I m sure and not just with that movie. This is one of my favorite examples of science fiction because people normally just think ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although the U.S. didn t join the war efforts directly until after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the impact the war had on the U.S. was great. Among other causes, the Munich Agreement was one of many things that came into in existence paving the way for WWII to begin.
