Career Blind Americans
Students who come from black working class families are more likely to be career blind and
underachievers.
This was view expressed by Professor Emeritus Ramesh Deosaran at the Ministry of Education s
Administrator s Conference at the Miracle Ministries Pentecostal High School yesterday.
Deosaran, who was the feature speaker, told those present that the society is at a point where it needs
to be rebuilt from scratch and teachers are the ones who can accomplish this feat.
Many young boys and girls drift into gangs, drugs and other illicit behaviours mainly because they
were mentally career blind, not possessing a career or occupational goal, Deosaran said during his
address. It continues to be a tragedy that this career blind group, ... Show more content on

I remember while interviewing Form Five students in an under performing school, we asked what
career they aimed for. Some said policeman, others said join the army, driving tractor etc. One boy
stood up and said A doctor, sir.
You should have seen how the other children laughed at him, mocking him. That is a remarkable
phenomenon, these children do not believe that they or anyone in their school can hope to be
something like that.
Questioned by media during a lunch break, Deosaran elaborated on his comments, saying, There are
several factors that affect the education system for example: social class, economic differences, ethnic
differences gender differences and even where the students are located, because you find in one
district, for example, Victoria a high proportion of what you call the prestige schools exist, so all these
factors, converge to create a disturbing degree of inequality in the education system.
Deosaran said his conclusion was based on a report done in 1994 and research and observation over
the years.
Now we have found that over the years, about 20 years or more, that particular kinds of families are
more disadvantaged than others. For example working class families, single parent families and
students of African origin who are also from poor families are also

Kandinsky Vs Klee
Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee are two of the famous artists of abstract art. They both had started
their painting life since 1900, and they had had friendship during their lifetime. Which is easier to
compare their artworks by year and find the similarities of how they were influent by each other. Such
as Kandinsky s Improvisation and Klee s Colour shape in 1914, Kandinsky s Black Increasing and
Klee s Black Knight in 1927. Thus, the four painting would be the artworks to compare. Two artists
have the same perspective toward art. First, Kandinsky not only sees colours as different moods but
also sees them as the sounds of music. He also assigned instrument tones to go with each colour: Red
sounded like a trumpet; Green sounded like a middle position violin; Light Blue sounded like flute;
Dark Blue sounded like a cello, Yellow sounded like a fanfare of trumpets; and White sounded like the
pause in a harmonious melody. (Kandinsky) It is a special perspective to see or hear art. In the same
way, Klee was a musician which found the resemblance between art and music.

Flies With Honey Guilty
The critical function of drama , so Robert Brustein tell us, is to arouse the remorse of guilty creatures
(382). In Flies with Honey, the underlining theme is guilt: not only Anna s compunction over
potentially murdering the girl she is in love with, but also her guilt for having these feelings of love in
the first place. This is intended to be portrayed not only through dialogue but having Amy, the alleged
murder victim, appear as a manifestation of the protagonist s guilt. In order to present this
successfully, I had to understand what it means to write of guilt feelings for the stage and how such
structure can affect characters and their authenticity. I also had to explore how this medium can be
realised in musical theatre.
In very broad terms, there exist two types of plot: one that is driven by action, and one that is driven
by characters (Alderson). Because my stageplay is only fifteen or so pages long and takes place in one
location, it allowed itself to be more character based. However, writing for theatre also brings the
audience into what Martin Meisel calls the present progressive , which he defines as a state of time
which allows viewers to begin in the midst of things, responsive to what is happening now, with

They quote John Truby in saying that the single biggest mistake writers can make when creating the
characters is that they think of the hero and all other characters as separate individuals (73). While
writing for film can be different from writing for theatre, this issue still needs to be addressed. The
audience will not interest themselves with the journey of the character if the other characters are not

Despereaux Book Report
The Tale of Despereaux, by Kate DiCamillo, is a story about a small mouse named Despereaux who
has giant ears and loves a princess named Pea. Because of his love, Despereaux is sent to the dungeon
where rats live. The book is divided into four stories. Despereaux was different from other mice. He
was a tiny mouse, the only of his litter, and had over sized ears. His eyes were open almost
immediately when he was born. His parent and siblings all stayed away from him. When Despereaux
got older, he didn t scurry like the other mice, and instead of eating books, he secretly read them! One
day, when Despereaux was reading his favorite fairy tale, he heard music. He followed the sound and
found the king playing his guitar for the princess. Despereaux ... Show more content on

Despereaux s father said he must be punished, so he called the mouse council to order. The next day,
Despereaux stood in front of the mouse council. He was told he to go to the dungeon, to the rats in the
dungeon. No mouse had ever come out of the dungeon alive! He had the chance to say that he
regretted his encounter with Pea, but after a long moment, he looked at the council and and said No. I
do not regret loving her. So a spool of red thread was tied around Despereaux s neck as he was led to
the dungeon. He fell down, down but did not fall onto the cold dungeon floor, but right into the jailer
Gregory s, hands. Despereaux asks if Gregory would let him go. Gregory says no, because if he did,
the rats would eat him. Despereaux replies, I can t die! I can t die because I love someone, and it is my
duty to serve her. Then, Gregory showed Despereaux what he thought the result or love was. There
was a giant pile of pots, pans, spoons, and soup bowls. Despereaux asks, What is it? The jailer
responds, The results of love. You won t understand until you lose what you love. Now, enough about
love. Here, I will save your life, although I have never saved any mouse before. Why would you save
me? Gregory replies, Because you, mouse, can tell me a story. Stories are light. I need some light in
the dark dungeon. Because Despereaux very much wanted to live, he started, Once upon a

Analysis Of Michel Foucault s The History Of Sexuality...
Michel Foucault s The History of Sexuality sheds light on the Victorian era and how the regulation of
discourses on sex reveals that Victorian society is more perverse than contemporary society thinks of
it. A similar approach can be applied to contemporary society and political discourse. During the 2016
presidential election, The Washington Post released a video of current President elect Donald Trump
bragging about what many consider to be sexually assaulting women. Recorded saying comments
such as, I moved on her like a bitch, but I couldn t get there. And she was married , this video has
become a large part of the 2016 presidential election, attracting criticism from Democrats and
Republicans alike (Farenthold). This video has brought to light a public discourse on the boundaries of
sexual assault. Through Foucault s discussion of the repressive hypothesis, it can be shown that, while
the discourses on sex have been regulated throughout the presidential election to gain power over
Trump, the normalization of sexual assault in mainstream society means these discourses have had
little effect.
While Foucault analyzes the Victorian view of sexuality through the repressive hypothesis, the same
can be done for a contemporary view of sexuality. There are specific concepts and ideas which are
considered acceptable to the public sphere. Foucault says that this is a policing of sex: that is, not the
rigor of a taboo, but the necessity of regulating sex through useful and

Bali 9 Clock Ticks Analysis
Written by Cindy Wockner, the Bali 9 Clock Ticks newspaper article appearing in the Herald Sun
serves as a neat, professional update on the predicament of Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan.
Written in typical newspaper fashion, the article underlies themes of desperation, hopelessness and
fear in a detached string of paragraphs. The article catches our attention with a suspenseful, desperate
title Bali 9 Clock Ticks. The phrase Clock Ticks paints a picture in our minds of time running out, and
having to do something drastic before it s too late. This theme of despair is continuously highlighted
throughout the text through phrases such as all but in their executioners crosshairs , effectively signing
his death warrant , the end is nigh , and quickly running out of options . The audience ... Show more

Wockner is subtly showing us the unjustness of the legal system, in the example of a woman who was

The Theme Of Themes In William Shakespeare s Macbeth
The play Macbeth is brilliantly written by William Shakespeare. There are a lot of themes in the play
that goes on and teaches about the ambition, the guilt, the fate versus free will concept and how things
are not what they seem. All of those factor into how Macbeth is a very interesting and very captivating
story.
Shortly after Macbeth hears the prophecies of him becoming the Thane of Cawdor and the King of
Scotland, and after becoming the Thane of Cawdor a few moments later, he writes a letter to Lady
Macbeth about what he is thinking, which at the time is how he wants to do away with King Duncan.

When Macbeth meets with the three witches to hear prophecies about his future there is one prophecy
that isn t what it seems. The third apparition that speaks to Macbeth says; Macbeth shall never be
vanquished be until Great Birnam Wood to high Dunsinane Hill shall come against him (IV. i. 92 94).
Macbeth immediately thinks of it literally. Believes that he will only be defeated if the actual woods
come up against him. Which we know by the end that people use the sticks and twigs to disguise
themselves against Macbeth to make it seem that the woods are moving. When Banquo and Macbeth
first leave the battle, they met the three witches. There Banquo says; You should be women, and yet
your beards forbid me to interpret that you are so (I. iii. 45 47). Banquo doesn t quite know what the
witches are and eventually finds out that they re witches.
When Macbeth becomes the Thane of Cawdor and turns out that one prophecy is true he starts to
question whether or not if he has to do something to become King, or if fate will grant him King. If
fate wants me to be king, perhaps fate will just make it happen and I won t have to do anything (I. iii.
146 148). He starts to think that maybe he will become king out of circumstance, but as we know he
kills Duncan to become king. Then later when Macbeth is talking to the murders about killing Banquo
he says; To leave no rubs or botches in the work Fleance, his son, that keeps him

The Enlightment Of El Dorado In Voltaire s Candide
The Enlightenment was an intellectual movement in Europe, which expanded during the 17th and 18th
centuries. It questioned the historic views of science, religion, and also the state. Enlightenment
thinkers concluded in using reason and scientific experiment as a guide to the enhancement of life and
society. The Scientific Revolution gave the impression on which the universe behaved according to
the universal and unchanging laws. This provided a model for looking rationally on human institutions
as well as nature. Published in 1759, Candide is one of Voltaire s signature works, which is heavily
characterized by the primary concerns of the Enlightenment. Candide is the story of a young man s
adventures throughout the world, where he witnesses much evil and disaster. All throughout the story,
Candide encounters multiple conflicts within many different places. The fictional place, El Dorado,

Racism, Class, And Gender Discrimination
Social injustices are unfortunately still prevalent in today s modern society. Racism has come a far
way due to many social movements, however it still remains ingrained and institutionalized in various
forms. Race is a cause of political and economic interest who stratified groups in order to gain more
power. The government created social regulations to prevent social inequalities due to race, class, and
gender to take place. Despite social regulations racism still is a part of out present day society. Article

particular. Stratification leads to racial and gender discrimination in companies towards employees
and customers. This is an analysis of discrimination in the workforce to colored woman as well as
businesses discrimination to colored consumers. Reading Racism in Toyland describes the experiences
and observations of a white woman while working at two different toy stores. She talked about how in
one of the toy stores the employees were diverse however the few whites working at the store were
cashiers. They were put as cashiers because they re the ones that interact with the customers the most

Man With A Plan Essay
The movie Man with a Plan is a satirical film about the campaign of one Vermont man in his quest to
become a member of Congress. The movie takes aim at the political process and Congress; the man,
Fred Tuttle, does not have any experience with government work, nor does he have a proper education
or a plan for what he will do if elected. He makes it clear that he is not motivated by his desire to
impact change on Vermont or create policy, but is actually motivated by the money and the fact that he
does not need qualifications. Man with a Plan illustrates the absurdity of modern politics and paints a
picture of current Congressmen, making it relevant to the political process of today.
The movie Man with a Plan follows the campaign Fred Tuttle, who is running for Congress in the state
of Vermont. His father needs a hip operation, and his farm is failing, so he decides that a seat in
Congress is the best job he could have. Tuttle reasons that he does not need skills or education in order
to hold the position, as other jobs would. This is clearly a dig at the current political system, as the
movie states that a Congress person does not need education or wisdom in order to be a part of
Congress. Furthermore, Tuttle runs off the Regressive Party , a reference to the Progressive ... Show

What many people don t realize is with modern technology humans might not be far from creating

creating parts of the human body. The problem is, seemingly immutable laws have restricted scientists
abilities to study STEM cells. The unremitting battle between the two sides is what holds this country

world and we ignore the time it takes to study embryos. Modern science needs an arbiter to come

With the use of proper search and seizure guidelines, schools are allowed to search students lockers
without a warrant. Lockers and backpacks are subject to search with reasonable suspicion. To search a
locker, a school staff member or police officer would have to have reasonable suspicion, probable
cause, and student consent in some cases (Ehlenberger). For reasonable suspicion to occur, the search
would be justified at its inception, meaning that there are reasonable grounds for suspecting that the

Sicko is an American made documentary that was released in 2007. This documentary focused on the
health care system in United States. Filmmaker, Michael Moore, visited different parts of the United
States and interviewed people about their experiences with the healthcare system and health insurance.
While it is obvious that people without health insurance are subjected to pay higher medical rates, the
film also shows that even people with health insurance, are unable to pay their medical bills. This is
due to the fact that certain procedures, medication, etc. are not covered by their insurance. Some
people often go to the extremes of traveling to Canada to receive free care. A part from visiting

As mentioned earlier, for the millions of other Americans that are insured with a healthcare plan, they
still struggle to pay for urgent care. For example, in Sicko a woman had a decent healthcare plan that
would provide coverage for her family. Her husband, Tracy became ill with cancer. His doctors
wanted to try different medications to see if it would help him. The insurance company denied to pay
for his medication due to experimental reasons. Tracy s doctors then suggested to do a bone marrow
transplant. The doctor mentioned that this treatment had been successful on other patients. Once again
the insurance company denied to pay for Tracy s treatment. Ultimately, Tracy passed away due to lack
of treatment. This is the reality of many sick Americans. They are focused to delay important medical
procedures/medication because they cannot afford the cost. Insurance companies try to find ways out
of paying for their customer s insurance. They use excuses such as experimental reasons as a means of
denying to pay for treatments or they state that the customer had a pre existing condition which they
do not cover. Sicko depicted that the more denials a health insurance company issues, the more money
the company saves. In the documentary Michael Moore visits Canada to examine how health
care/insurance differs from the United States. People receive quality care and do not have to pay for
health treatments in Canada. Canada operates as on a single

Analysis Of Charles Chesnutt s The House Behind The...

5th October 2016
The Question of Racial Identity
Set at the dawn of the Reconstruction period, a time of supposed national renewal and modernization,
Charles Chesnutt s The House Behind the Cedars exposes the reality of an utterly medieval post Civil
War South. Chesnutt explores the role of race in shaping one s true identity through the experiences of
two bi racial siblings, John and Rena Walden, as they transcend the biological color barrier. Inspired
by her older brother s decade of splendid success living as an apparently pure white man, an existence
free of all the restrictions she encounters as a bi racial individual, Rena agrees to abandon and reject
her black identity with devastating consequences. A largely didactic novel, driven by Chesnutt s
motivation to explore the nuances of racial identity in an era in which racial identity was presumed to
be a biological certainty, Rena s character and the devastating conflicts she faces are his vehicle to

The Effects Of Mental Illnesses
Mental illnesses greatly affect the lives of those they attack. However, those who are free from the
captivity of mental illnesses are generally unaware of the destruction caused by them. Mental
illnesses, such as anxiety and depression, take hold of people s lives and determine the way they go.
Unfortunately, mental illnesses are not taken seriously. Many believe that mental illnesses are just a
phase that people will naturally recover from. In today s society, anything that is abnormal is
suppressed. Sadly, this is true for mental illnesses. Those suffering from mental illnesses are hidden, in
a sense, from the normal world. Mental illnesses are viewed as abnormal, and those that hold this view

According to society, mental disorders and illnesses are abnormal. This mindset is caused by the
stigma shrouding mental conditions. However, what does abnormal really mean? Merriam Webster,
one of the oldest and most common dictionaries, defines abnormal as deviating from the normal or
average (Merriam Webster). If something truly is not common, thus normal or average, then it must,
by definition, be abnormal. This raises an important question: how common are mental illnesses? The
answer to this question will help determine if mental illnesses are truly abnormal. According to the
National Alliance on Mental Illness, Approximately 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. ... experiences mental
illness in a given year and Approximately 1 in 5 youth aged 13 18 (21.4%) experiences a severe

Sonnet Analysis
Reclaiming the Sonnet:
Cummings and Millay s Contemporary Use of the Classical Poetic Form Fourteen lines, iambic
pentameter, rhyme scheme the classical form of the sonnet has been employed by poets since the
thirteenth century. Whether the Italian Petrarchan, the English Shakespearean or other variations on
the quatorzain, some of the most widely read poets have risen to fame as sonneteers. Typically sonnets
address romantic love or lust, but occasionally poets will lyrically meditate on nature, spirituality or
other universal aspects of the human condition; however, modern poets have broken from the
traditional sonnet form and subject matter to put a contemporary twist on the popular fourteen line
model. American poets E.E. Cummings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The speaker personifies his nation, proclaiming with second person pronouns, i love you land of the
pilgrims and so forth and later stating, thy sons acclaim your glorious name. The orator muses over
America s war efforts the way other poets might idolize a young fair maiden or exalt the wonders of
the natural world, the speechmaker inquires, why talk of beauty, claiming, what could be more
beautiful than these heroic happy dead who rushed like lions to the roaring slaughter. Cummings
points out the absurdity of extreme patriotism and the dangers accompanying glorified militarism with
a speaker who praises his nation s violent efforts with the romantic rhetoric of love poetry.
In addition to the heightened romantic language of the love poem, occasionally sonneteers will also
utilize capitalization to convey a specific emotion regarding the poem s subject. For example, in his
popular 116th and 18th sonnets, respectively, Shakespeare plays with capitalization in several lines,
including Love s not Time s fool and Nor shall Death brag. Capitalizing certain words that encompass
great meaning or emotion as Shakespeare indicates with Time and Death aids poets in emphasizing the
essential nature of said terms and their importance within the sonnet.

Color Analysis in Raised the Red Lantern Essay
Color Emphasis in Raise the Red Lantern

Scholars and film critiques have often regarded the fifth generation film Director, Zhang Yi Mou s
films as a visually sensual feast (Zhu 26). The predominant use of the color Red in his highly stylized
films: Red Sorghum (1988), Ju Dou and Raise the Red Lantern (1991) are evidence of his trademark
visual style thus leading scholars to critically analyze the symbolic representation of the color. I would
argue however, in addition to the prevalent use of red in his art house films, there are several
supporting colors (black, white, grey, blue), intertwining with the color red. Zhang seems ... Show

According to Kong, Red in Chinese culture symbolizes luck and popularity and is commonly used in

ironic power (123). Red is often associated with passion and lust, though the latter is true to this film,
the symbolic representation of red amount to sexuality as a means of gaining political power within
the Chen household. The dining table scene where 3rd mistress arrives fashionably late dressed in a

ironic. Their victory is the attention of the master s affection for one night. This further emphasizes the

Socrates And Machiavelli
Socrates and Machiavelli are both very influential philosophers and two of the great minds of their
time. However, both of these men had their own separate ideas that did not completely agree with one

bloodshed, and angry citizens while Socrates grew up in a time of political adjustment and instability
in Athens. Machiavelli constructed The Prince as a political pamphlet to his friend Lorenzo de Medici

Wildlife Is Being Threatened But We Can Protect It
Have you ever wanted to have a bonfire? Do you love the home you live in? Do you ever waste the
water you drink? The next time you focus on these conveniences or advantages of your life, consider
what you re doing to the wildlife environment. Wildlife habitats are being destroyed in many ways by
many factors. For the purpose of this paper I m going to focus on the following five areas.
Increased Development
Fire
Pollution of water
Redistribution of water
Natural Disasters
All three factors above represent destructive factors contributing to habitat destruction. A habitat is
defined as an undisturbed natural region in which wildlife lives. For example, fish live in ponds, bears
and wolves, as well as deer and squirrels live in the forest. Lizards and snakes reside in the desert. To
begin with, increased development is a major effect of threatening wildlife. Agriculture is causing
wildlife to be destroyed because forests are being turned into croplands. They re increasing pressure to
redevelop land conservation and crops. Agriculture is killing wildlife because the habitats are being
taken over by croplands. Deserts and forests are continually being wiped out by developers and
investors who are more interested in making money than preserving wildlife. Habitat destruction is
increased by the rapidly growing human population. As populations increase, we, as humans tend to
demand the use of more agricultural land consumption to build our cities and towns and

Peter Singer Speciesism
The idea that all humans are born equal has been something that has been almost installed in our
minds. However, in the eyes of Peter Singer, we as humans are constantly violating our own moral
code in the way we treat animals. Singer refers to this as speciesism and compares our treatment of
animals to the same way sexists and racists treat those who they deem inferior. He also argues that the
grounds on which they base their prejudice on are equally fragile. He illustrates this by comparing
speciesists to racists. He recalls, The racists violates the principle of equality by giving greater weight
to the interests of his own race...similarly the speciesist allows the interests of his own species to
override the greater interests of members of another species (53.) He initiates this argument by
explaining how our willingness to declare all humans as equal when the opposite is fundamentally
true. Singer writes, Like it or not, we must face the fact that humans come in different shapes and
sizes; they come with differing moral capacities, differing intellect...if the demand for equality was
based on the actual equality of all human beings, we would have to stop demanding equality (51).
Singer seeks to establish that our push for equality ends once the being in question is no longer
human. Once he establishes this, he can quickly draw parallels between our unequal treatment of
animals and humans. He evolves what initially begins as a far fetched claim to a nuanced and

A major result of green washing, is public confusion , said Terrachoice vice president Scot Case. But
green washing can also pose environmental threats, and that it is indeed harmful as seen in 2008, when
the Malaysian Palm Oil Council produced a television advertisement claiming itself as being eco
friendly, with a voiceover throughout the commercial stating Malaysia Palm Oil. Its trees give life and

intentioned consumers are being misled into purchases that do not deliver on their environmental

environment has been dissipated. This reaches a stage in which people begin seeing further examples

How Marketing Sector Plays A Business Or Organisation Essay
Marketing sector plays a vital role in a business or organisation. It is a sector that helps to inform and
influence the society at large about the activities made by a business or organisation (Elliot, 2010).
Working under the marketing sector would be challenging as it requires marketers to have competent
attitudes and skilful (Elliot, 2010). Although there are several flaws can be identified to make
marketing as a profession such as working long hours and working with an organisation that does not
embrace the marketing concept (Klein, 2004), it is a profession that is meaningful to me.
To work as a marketer, certain tasks require going one place to another to meet different people. It is a
job that not always makes you stay in office. Hence, it is not a monotonous job in comparison to other
jobs that have to do a repetitive work. It is one of the reasons why I chose to work under the marketing
sector in the future. Where, marketers able to meet and socialise with people that have a different
background. Therefore, it helps to expand and broaden my knowledge on numerous matters. Another
reason would be because of exploration and comprehension of consumer behaviour. By understanding
the behaviour of consumers, marketers able to help a business or organisation to produce a product
that is highly demanded by consumers. Thus, it also expected to result in increase the profits of the
company. Last but not least, chose to work under a marketing sector would be meaningful to me

A protagonist is the character that drives the action of the plot. In Genesis 24, the main character who
drives the plot of the story is Abraham s servant, who has been given the job to find a suitable wife for
Isaac. The entire story of Genesis 24 is revolved around the job of the servant and him being divinely
introduced to Rebekah, the wife Abraham said to find. Abraham provides specific instructions for his
servant in his task to find Isaac a wife; therefore, the action of the story moves from Abraham, which

because she is only found because of the directions given to the servant. As mentioned before,
Rebekah responded to the servant s request just as he was told the proper wife would. In addition,
Rebekah is part of the house of [the servant s] master s kin (Genesis 24:27). The servant is the one
who asked that Rebekah come right away even though her family objected the notion, which was part
of the servant s initial directions (Genesis 24:56). Rebekah is the embodiment of the woman Abraham
described to the servant. Being the embodiment means being the outcome of the story, not the
protagonist. Also, even when Rebekah has been chosen by the servant, the wedding of Rebekah and
Isaac does not take up a large part of the chapter. Genesis 24:67 proclaims that Then Isaac brought her
into his mother Sarah s tent... and she became his wife . This act of marriage seems to be an
afterthought because the servant followed the directions of Abraham, so Isaac knew she was divinely
meant to be his wife. The largest part of the chapter was still the servant trying to find the wife for
Isaac. If Rebekah were the protagonist, a stronger emphasis would have been placed on this act of

Colonial Apothecaries Essay

Apothecary; noun a person who prepared and sold medicine and drugs. Have you ever wondered what
came before doctors? That kind of occupation was for apothecaries. I chose this particular job for my
research project because apothecaries use a lot of interesting objects, and were way different than
present day doctors and pharmacists.
In Europe, folks who were selling wine, spices, and herbs were known as apothecaries. They prepared
and sold medicine directly to patients. Apothecaries also gave out medical advice and sold out many
different products.

They are very similar. Both used chalk for heartburn, calamine for skin irritations, and cinchona bark
for fevers. Later, apothecaries found out that cinchona bark contained quinine for malaria, and

Medical treatment was expensive and people frequently diagnose themselves, and the way they treated
themselves was (1. The remedy was passed down from tradition, (2. They were guided by folklore, or

and vinegar. The rose petals are steeped into vinegar, and then they were applied topically.
In some trades, the apothecaries skill and knowledge were secret, and little about them were published
in books. For apothecaries and surgeons, there were textbooks, and many of them survived. The

Welcoming Students Into The Classroom
Greeting and welcoming students into the classroom occurs before the first day of school. Making
sure that my name and the room number is large, clear, and visible outside the room prior to the

right room. When it comes to the first day of school and everyday after that, greeting students begins
by meeting them before they get into the door. Being prepared for them before they walk in is
important. Meet them outside the door with a smile, and telling them good morning, or we are going

training for all salaried employees. Globally, over 11,000 projects have closed and more than 12,000
projects are currently underway. Apart from implementing Six Sigma within the organization, 3M has
demonstrated the need to assist their customers in developing creative solutions for their business and
manufacturing challenges. Hundreds of 3M industrial business customer Six Sigma projects have been
accomplished. Here, three examples are given of a major automotive manufacturer, a well known food
producer, and a leading manufacturer who had quality problems. The automotive manufacturer had a
significant challenge with its largest selling vehicles. 3M assisted in using Six Sigma to provide a cost
effective solution in a short time frame. The well known food producer needed to keep track of the
product that its makes and ships. In the event of a product recall, it needed to locate every food item
shipped, right down to the hour it left the production line. With the assistance of the 3M Six Sigma
project, 3M developed

Winston Churchill Was A British Statesman
Winston Churchill was born on November 30, 1874, in Dublin, Ireland. His father, Lord Randolph
Churchill, was a British statesman. His own father, John Spencer Churchill, was the 7th Duke of
Marlborough. Churchill s mother, Jeanette Jerome, was a New York socialite. A socialite is somehow
who is well known and thought of among the upper class for attending large social gatherings such as
parties or fund raising events on a regular basis.
In the early years of Churchill s schooling, he was quite unruly and did badly in his first two schools.
In the spring of 1888, he was sent to Harrow School, which was a boarding school near London,
England. After a very short time there, he joined the Rifle Corps. This action led to the beginning of
his own military career. One of the first steps to becoming an official member of the British military
was to pass an exam for the British Royal Military College. He took the acceptance exam three times
before finally passing it. At the end of his time there, he graduated 20th out of 130 in his class and was
believed to have been a solid member of the college while there.
Churchill s relationship with his parents was distant and almost based off of their own reputations,
rather than him actually knowing his parents extremely well. He wrote letters to his mother while in
college, begging her to visit him, but she rarely did. Duke John Spencer Churchill passed away when
Winston Churchill was only twenty one. It s often believed

Distillation
Steam Distillation is the process of distilling a mixture wherein one of the immiscible phases is a
steam. It is a mild method for separating and purifying volatile liquid or solid organic compounds that
are immiscible or insoluble in water. This technique is not applicable to substances that react with
water, decompose on prolonged contact with steam or hot water, or have a vapor pressure of less than
about 5 torr at 100°C. One way to perform steam distillation is through the live steam method. It is the
more widely used method. It is especially used with high molecular weight (low vapor pressure)
substances. Although it requires more complex setup, this method reduces bumping.
Principles Involved Live steam distillation is based ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
6. Use an ice bath to increase the efficiency of condensation in the receiving flask.
7. Remove at least a tenth part of the distillate once it is already clear.
8. When distillation is to be stopped, the clamp in the water trap should be opened and the steam inlet
tube must be removed from the three necked flask (distilling flask).
9. Hot steam can produce severe burns so steam inlet tube must be cooled a little first before holding
and attaching it to the distilling flask.
10. Cool the whole setup first before dismantling.
11. The thermometer bulb should be below the side arm of the three way adapter.
12. When droplets condensate at the thermometer bulb, the temperature reading is the boiling point.
13. When the first drop of liquid falls into the receiving flask, the temperature reading is the
distillation temperature.
14. Cold water should constantly run through the lower half of the condenser and then water should go
out of the top part of the condenser.
15. When a solid substance is placed in the distilling flask for the live steam method, water is not
needed to be placed with it.
16. Cover joints or connections of two apparatuses with aluminum foil or Plaster of Paris to insulate it
so steam vapors won t condensate there.
Reasons for Important Steps

The Sun Also Rises Themes
We are all a Lost Generation ; is the opening epigraph to the Roman A Clef styled novel The Sun Also
Rises by Ernest Hemingway has many different themes throughout the book, some of them being
Robert Cohn s guidebook The Purple Land, and the alcohol presence in Jake s life. Many times
throughout the book these themes can and do collide.
Many people, when they are 34, have life figured out, but not Robert Cohn. Robert grew up in
America to wealthy Jewish parents. During college, he was the middleweight boxing champion even
though he hated the sport, ( even if he was good at it), after Robert finished college, he married a nice
lady, then divorced a few years later. After Cohn s divorce, he met Francis, who convinced Cohn to go

While in Paris, Cohn finds W.H. Hudson s book, The Purple Land. Cohn s friend and the narrator of
The Sun Also Rises, Jake states that this book is a very sinister book if read too late in life
(Hemingway 17). For some this book may seem strange, how can a book be sinister? Well, for Cohn,
it gave him fantasies about far off places and this book became his guidebook for life. The Purple
Land, gave Cohn ideas about going to South America, to get away from everyone especially Francis.

Role Of Punishment In Roman Times
INTRODUCTION During Roman times crimes were taken very seriously, much like they are today.
However the consequences of some of these crimes were much more severe than in modern times. I
will be showing you different punishments given to both types of crimes and how they have changed
since these times. The laws of the 12 tables is the earliest code of law made by the romans and is also
an early and surviving source of literature from Romans. 2 THEFT The city of Rome was very busy
so it was easy for people to steal. This crime was also rarely committed by the wealthy as the poor
were said to be more likely to take the things they don t have, want and in some cases need.

I know that slaves were not considered equal in these times and from seeing how they are treated I can
say that it was completely unfair. This crime should have the same punishment for all because no
matter who they are, they still broke the law and so should be punished the same way as everyone
else. 3 MURDER Murders happened a lot in Rome. Roman emperors were often killed. Another
type of murder that had a terrible punishment was Patricide (killing your On this denarius you can see
a man being whipped with something that seems to have three lashes much like flagrum. father).
PUNISHMENT A common punishment for murder was crucifixion. This was a very shameful way to
die as the criminal was taken to his place of execution whilst carrying his cross. They would be
scourged with a flagrum which was a type of whip that was said to have 3 lashes. This was for

The Charge Of The Light Brigade, By Dylan Thomas
The Fight of the Inevitable It is impractical to contradict the inevitability of death, but no one begins
to think of that until they are an elder or at a point in their life where their life is in jeopardy. However,
it is said that people must not die in vain and that they should fight for their life, whether it is
physically in a battle or mentally when on your deathbed. Both The Charge of the Light Brigade by
Alfred, Lord Tennyson and Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night by Dylan Thomas depict a
similar theme of mortality and how it is inevitable. Also, both poets add a unique lesson that one
should not give up on themselves and that they should fight for it with all the time they have left on
this earth but portray it in a different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the poem, Thomas also stresses on the words rage and rave to indicate that the person should
retaliate and to be angry at the fact that their life is coming to an end. It is also noted that metaphor is
used in the poem describing death, That Good Night can be seen as the sadness and heartbreak but
mixed with the light . He talks about how the good, the wild, and the blind also will be melancholy
once death approaches because they cannot enjoy life as they please. Towards the end of the poem,
Thomas mentions that his father is dying and recounts it as a sad height , but still he tells him to be
ferocious with his tears. In the end rather than accepting death, Thomas pushes people to approach it
with energy and to be

Uk Referendum Essay
The results of the 2016 UK referendum was a surprise to the rest of the world, but there are definitely
factors that made this a predictable result. At first glance, one might assume that economics were the
main contributing factor to the people s discontent of membership in the EU. But as I researched, I
found that politics in the UK and the EU had a far greater impact on the feelings of Brits. However,
some important economic factors still exist. The European Union s economy, despite being one of the
largest in the world; very comparable to the size of the economy of the United States, does not provide
a great benefit to the UK. Both the economies of the UK and of the EU are less than ideal for the
respective nations, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Germany is, after the UK and possibly France, the most influential nation in the EU, its interests
will be well represented and therefore the UK does not need to worry about their ease of trade with
mainland Europe being hindered. Economically, the United Kingdom has nothing to lose, and
everything to gain, by forfeiting their membership in the EU. As was mentioned earlier, as important
as economics are to understanding this situation, their importance is nowhere near as fundamental to
the outcome of the referendum as are the effects of modern European politics. The modern world has
recently seen a sharp rise of populism. The citizens of today s first world nations do not trust their
government and its politicians. Populism is The support for the concerns of ordinary people [10].
People distrust mainstream politicians that have history in federal government. A wonderful example
of this new political tendency, other than the positive vote for brexit, is the election of Donald Trump
as president of the United States of America. Midway through the election season a popular US news
source predicted that Trump had less than a 5% chance of winning the election[11]. However, this
source did not take into account the negative feelings of the American voting public toward
mainstream politicians, such as Trump s opponent Hillary Clinton. Analysts believe that the same
phenomenon of populism that elected Trump can also explain the

How Social Media Could Rule Banking And Insurance Essay
How Social Media Could Rule Banking and Insurance When the internet first came into being, there
was no way that the finance of a country could depend on it. But it was quite evident that internet was
heavily dependent on the financial stature of a republic. However, times have changed now. The
financial condition of a country is heavily dependent on the prevalent social media like Facebook,
LinkedIn and Twitter which could not only back gear but also completely stop an upcoming financial
crisis. This has rendered them as some of the biggest financial organizations available in the current
market. It is also stated that the likes of Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter will rule banking and
insurance in the near future. Similarities: When we say the Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter will be the
kings and queens of banking and insurance, we must first look into the similarities that these two
sectors share. This understanding will lead us to get an idea of how these social media are controlling
the financial section. A superficial outlook will provide us with absolutely no similarities between the
two sectors. But a little thought will show us how these two are completely entwined. Facebook,
LinkedIn and Twitter have completely changed the way we used to internet say about a decade ago.
Banks and insurance companies are now utilizing these social media to reach out to new customers i.e.
advertising and to maintain their communication with the already available one. Let s look into the

  • 2. Career Blind Americans Students who come from black working class families are more likely to be career blind and underachievers. This was view expressed by Professor Emeritus Ramesh Deosaran at the Ministry of Education s Administrator s Conference at the Miracle Ministries Pentecostal High School yesterday. Deosaran, who was the feature speaker, told those present that the society is at a point where it needs to be rebuilt from scratch and teachers are the ones who can accomplish this feat. Many young boys and girls drift into gangs, drugs and other illicit behaviours mainly because they were mentally career blind, not possessing a career or occupational goal, Deosaran said during his address. It continues to be a tragedy that this career blind group, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I remember while interviewing Form Five students in an under performing school, we asked what career they aimed for. Some said policeman, others said join the army, driving tractor etc. One boy stood up and said A doctor, sir. You should have seen how the other children laughed at him, mocking him. That is a remarkable phenomenon, these children do not believe that they or anyone in their school can hope to be something like that. Questioned by media during a lunch break, Deosaran elaborated on his comments, saying, There are several factors that affect the education system for example: social class, economic differences, ethnic differences gender differences and even where the students are located, because you find in one district, for example, Victoria a high proportion of what you call the prestige schools exist, so all these factors, converge to create a disturbing degree of inequality in the education system. Deosaran said his conclusion was based on a report done in 1994 and research and observation over the years. Now we have found that over the years, about 20 years or more, that particular kinds of families are more disadvantaged than others. For example working class families, single parent families and students of African origin who are also from poor families are also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Kandinsky Vs Klee Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee are two of the famous artists of abstract art. They both had started their painting life since 1900, and they had had friendship during their lifetime. Which is easier to compare their artworks by year and find the similarities of how they were influent by each other. Such as Kandinsky s Improvisation and Klee s Colour shape in 1914, Kandinsky s Black Increasing and Klee s Black Knight in 1927. Thus, the four painting would be the artworks to compare. Two artists have the same perspective toward art. First, Kandinsky not only sees colours as different moods but also sees them as the sounds of music. He also assigned instrument tones to go with each colour: Red sounded like a trumpet; Green sounded like a middle position violin; Light Blue sounded like flute; Dark Blue sounded like a cello, Yellow sounded like a fanfare of trumpets; and White sounded like the pause in a harmonious melody. (Kandinsky) It is a special perspective to see or hear art. In the same way, Klee was a musician which found the resemblance between art and music. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Flies With Honey Guilty The critical function of drama , so Robert Brustein tell us, is to arouse the remorse of guilty creatures (382). In Flies with Honey, the underlining theme is guilt: not only Anna s compunction over potentially murdering the girl she is in love with, but also her guilt for having these feelings of love in the first place. This is intended to be portrayed not only through dialogue but having Amy, the alleged murder victim, appear as a manifestation of the protagonist s guilt. In order to present this successfully, I had to understand what it means to write of guilt feelings for the stage and how such structure can affect characters and their authenticity. I also had to explore how this medium can be realised in musical theatre. In very broad terms, there exist two types of plot: one that is driven by action, and one that is driven by characters (Alderson). Because my stageplay is only fifteen or so pages long and takes place in one location, it allowed itself to be more character based. However, writing for theatre also brings the audience into what Martin Meisel calls the present progressive , which he defines as a state of time which allows viewers to begin in the midst of things, responsive to what is happening now, with questions [...] [about] how are [they] going to get from here to there ... Because of his love, Despereaux is sent to the dungeon where rats live. The book is divided into four stories. Despereaux was different from other mice. He was a tiny mouse, the only of his litter, and had over sized ears. His eyes were open almost immediately when he was born. His parent and siblings all stayed away from him. When Despereaux got older, he didn t scurry like the other mice, and instead of eating books, he secretly read them! One day, when Despereaux was reading his favorite fairy tale, he heard music. • 8. Analysis Of Michel Foucault s The History Of Sexuality... Michel Foucault s The History of Sexuality sheds light on the Victorian era and how the regulation of discourses on sex reveals that Victorian society is more perverse than contemporary society thinks of it. A similar approach can be applied to contemporary society and political discourse. During the 2016 presidential election, The Washington Post released a video of current President elect Donald Trump bragging about what many consider to be sexually assaulting women. Recorded saying comments such as, I moved on her like a bitch, but I couldn t get there. And she was married , this video has become a large part of the 2016 presidential election, attracting criticism from Democrats and Republicans alike (Farenthold). This video has brought to light a public discourse on the boundaries of sexual assault. Through Foucault s discussion of the repressive hypothesis, it can be shown that, while the discourses on sex have been regulated throughout the presidential election to gain power over Trump, the normalization of sexual assault in mainstream society means these discourses have had little effect. While Foucault analyzes the Victorian view of sexuality through the repressive hypothesis, the same can be done for a contemporary view of sexuality. There are specific concepts and ideas which are considered acceptable to the public sphere. Foucault says that this is a policing of sex: that is, not the rigor of a taboo, but the necessity of regulating sex through useful and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The third apparition that speaks to Macbeth says; Macbeth shall never be vanquished be until Great Birnam Wood to high Dunsinane Hill shall come against him (IV. i. 92 94). Macbeth immediately thinks of it literally. Believes that he will only be defeated if the actual woods come up against him. Which we know by the end that people use the sticks and twigs to disguise themselves against Macbeth to make it seem that the woods are moving. When Banquo and Macbeth first leave the battle, they met the three witches. There Banquo says; You should be women, and yet your beards forbid me to interpret that you are so (I. iii. 45 47). Filmmaker, Michael Moore, visited different parts of the United States and interviewed people about their experiences with the healthcare system and health insurance. While it is obvious that people without health insurance are subjected to pay higher medical rates, the film also shows that even people with health insurance, are unable to pay their medical bills. For example, in Sicko a woman had a decent healthcare plan that would provide coverage for her family. Her husband, Tracy became ill with cancer. His doctors wanted to try different medications to see if it would help him. The insurance company denied to pay for his medication due to experimental reasons. Tracy s doctors then suggested to do a bone marrow transplant. The doctor mentioned that this treatment had been successful on other patients. Once again the insurance company denied to pay for Tracy s treatment. Ultimately, Tracy passed away due to lack of treatment. This is the reality of many sick Americans. They use excuses such as experimental reasons as a means of denying to pay for treatments or they state that the customer had a pre existing condition which they do not cover. Sicko depicted that the more denials a health insurance company issues, the more money the company saves. • 20. Analysis Of Charles Chesnutt s The House Behind The... Talia Kaufmann Literature II Prof. Logan Esdale 5th October 2016 The Question of Racial Identity Set at the dawn of the Reconstruction period, a time of supposed national renewal and modernization, Charles Chesnutt s The House Behind the Cedars exposes the reality of an utterly medieval post Civil War South. Chesnutt explores the role of race in shaping one s true identity through the experiences of two bi racial siblings, John and Rena Walden, as they transcend the biological color barrier. Inspired by her older brother s decade of splendid success living as an apparently pure white man, an existence free of all the restrictions she encounters as a bi racial individual, Rena agrees to abandon and reject her black identity with devastating consequences. A largely didactic novel, driven by Chesnutt s motivation to explore the nuances of racial identity in an era in which racial identity was presumed to be a biological certainty, Rena s character and the devastating conflicts she faces are his vehicle to portray his own deeply personal journey of self identification. The House Behind the Cedars serves as a metaphor for Chesnutt s own life and the internal struggles he faced as a biracial individual. Chesnutt achieves both a certain omnipresence and intimacy in his writing through the integration of elements of his personal biography into the novel. Much of the novel and its mulatto protagonists, Rena and John, are based on Chesnutt s life as a bi racial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The next time you focus on these conveniences or advantages of your life, consider what you re doing to the wildlife environment. Wildlife habitats are being destroyed in many ways by many factors. For the purpose of this paper I m going to focus on the following five areas. Increased Development Fire Pollution of water Redistribution of water Natural Disasters All three factors above represent destructive factors contributing to habitat destruction. A habitat is defined as an undisturbed natural region in which wildlife lives. For example, fish live in ponds, bears and wolves, as well as deer and squirrels live in the forest. Lizards and snakes reside in the desert. To begin with, increased development is a major effect of threatening wildlife. Agriculture is causing wildlife to be destroyed because forests are being turned into croplands. They re increasing pressure to redevelop land conservation and crops. Agriculture is killing wildlife because the habitats are being taken over by croplands. Deserts and forests are continually being wiped out by developers and investors who are more interested in making money than preserving wildlife. He also argues that the grounds on which they base their prejudice on are equally fragile. He illustrates this by comparing speciesists to racists. He recalls, The racists violates the principle of equality by giving greater weight to the interests of his own race...similarly the speciesist allows the interests of his own species to override the greater interests of members of another species (53.) At first glance, one might assume that economics were the main contributing factor to the people s discontent of membership in the EU. But as I researched, I found that politics in the UK and the EU had a far greater impact on the feelings of Brits. However, some important economic factors still exist. As was mentioned earlier, as important as economics are to understanding this situation, their importance is nowhere near as fundamental to the outcome of the referendum as are the effects of modern European politics.
