A Life-Threatening Disease Causing Infants to Blister,...
A genetic disorder that affects an estimated 25,000 50,000 people in the United States and can be
life threatening. This disease causes blisters on the skin but also in the mouth, esophagus, lungs
and muscles. Though this disorder is not common it can be mild with little symptoms, disabling,
where there are a few problems that may occur or it can be life threatening. This disease is called
Epidermolysis Bullosa.
Epidermolysis Bullosa is a genetic disorder that causes the skin to blister even with the slightest
force. Epidermolysis Bullosa is found in three different types. Each are caused by different genetic
mutations. The most common form of Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) is Epidermolysis Bullosa
simplex (EBS). The less common types of EB ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The lives can be cut short if internal organs start to blister. Also those who have EB are more
likely to have skin cancer than those without EB. Another way that life could be cut short is
because EB can cause sepsis which is when bacteria is spread all over the body via blood stream.
There are three main types of EB. Each is caused by a different mutation. The most common type
of EB is Epidermolysis Bullosa simplex (EBS). This variation is unlike the other two in the fact
that it is autosomal dominant. The gene that is mutated is called keratin 14 or KRT14 for short.
This gene in particular codes for keratins, a type of protein that forms skin, hair and nails. There
are over 60 mutations that have been found in people living with EBS from this gene alone. Keratin
14 is located on chromosome 17.
A second type of this disorder is called Junctional Epidermolysis Bullosa (JEB). This is an
autosomal recessive condition. Unlike EBS this variation of EB is more severe and causes
more blistering and it is easier to blister. Mutations caused on the collagen 17 gene which is
located on chromosome 10 along with laminin 5 which is located on chromosome 20. Just as
there are different variations of EB there are two different forms of JEB. There are Herlitz and
non Herlitz. Herlitz is more severe and often can cause fingers and toes to fuse together. Herlitz
JEB affects all the skin not just certain parts such as the knees, feet, hands and

Mrs Smith is 97 years old; she has two children, a daughter and a son. She lost her husband over 20
years ago so her children have always played a big part helping her with her care weather that
was when she was at home or when she came to us at Eastbourne House. Her family is quite
small so they are very close and they still spend a lot of time together making sure they come to
visit at least 3 times a week.
Mrs Smith suffers from depression and takes various medications to help with this but she is an
overall happy lady. She enjoys spending time chatting with other service users or spending time in

One the day of the funeral I spent some time with Mrs Smith to make sure she was okay. I asked
her if she would like to write a letter to her daughter in law which we could put in an envelope
and set on fire, as if it was going up to heaven with her. She liked this idea but explained to me
she would struggle to write it herself and asked me if I could sit with her and help her to think of
the words to say and if I would write it out for her. I agreed to do this and I explained to Mrs
Smith that this was a very personal thing she had asked me to do and reassured her that what
was written in the letter would strictly stay between me and her and this comforted her. At 11am
that day myself, Mrs Smith, her neighbour and our activities co ordinator went out into the back

letter in a corner of the garden which has a little seating area and explained to Mrs Smith if she

Brave New World Roles Of Women
In Aldous Huxley s Brave New World, a society is presented in which every aspect of life is tightly
controlled and humans are more like lifeless machines. However, in this attempt at a utopian
society, glimmers of humanity are shown through several characters in the novel. Though the
characters surrounding the central action are male, two very important women are also portrayed.
These two woman are used to not only dispute the sexism demonstrated by men, but also in
response to the women s rights issues at the time the novelwas written. From the surface, one may
conclude that Huxley simply includes women in the plot to balance the story. However, when
further examined, the female characters, Linda and Lenina, are in many ways emotionally... Show

This again shows Lenina s attempt to escape from the harsh reality of her brainwashed society.
All the times that Lenina resorts to soma use, it is due to a recognition that her life and world are
not perfect and in control, but rather full of people who have no grasp on real freedom and control.
Though she does not directly fight the power that dominates society, her apperception of the
problem exhibits a greater intelligence and understanding of the Brave New World.
Lenina s final defining factor that separates her from the men in the novel, namely John, is her
ability to love. It appears to be a mutual love between Lenina and John, but it is exposed later that
John s love for her is only because of his love for his mother. Lenina on the other hand immediately
thinks that John is such a nice looking boy пїЅ with a really beautiful body пїЅ (117). This is the
beginning of her adoration of John. She wonders what it would be like to make love to a Savage
пїЅ (166) which makes her curiosity and interest in John obvious. Finally to her friend Fanny she
admits that she likes him пїЅ (166). After many encounters, Lenina gets the courage, with the help
of soma, to face John and attempt to seduce him. She goes to his room in a white acetate satin
sailor suit пїЅ (189) which is like the pearl imagery when Lenina is first introduced invokes a sense

Edward Bernay s Crystallizing Public Opinion
Edward Bernay s Crystallizing Public Opinion gives readers an insight on public relations and
public opinions on its history and how it came about. The text was broken up into four different
parts: scope and functions, the group and herd, technique and method, and lastly ethical relations.
Each parts has certain chapter topics leads to the next which leads to the next parts of the book.
The text is very helpful for those who are in public relations, I would not say the book was easy nor
difficult, it was more in between. There are some chapters that are pretty lengthy compared to
others and there will be names mentioned in a few chapters that can be a little confusing. Overall,
it is best for people to know about the history of PR and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mr. Bernay mention Judge Cardozo of the Court of Appeals of the State of New York, as an
example that judges go through different cases a day and having to decide to pick one. How I
see that example is that as PR field, no matter what clients we get, we can have a choice to help
them or not. Same goes for judges while they decide on a case to work on. Therefore Bernay
gives us three tendencies of fundamental importance s. Tendency number one, increase public
interest in industrial aggregations (Bernay, 1923, p. 66). The first tendency basically tells PR
practitioners that it is important to keep their clients and public happy. They need to find a way
to make themselves stay relevant and keeping up with what the public want. Second tendency the
increased readiness of the public, due to spread of literacy and democratic forms of government
(Bernay, 1923, p. 66). News spread out like wildfires, when a controversy happens within the
government or entertainment industry, public relations has to keep up with it and put that fire out,
or else people will keep on misunderstanding and demanding information. Lastly tendency three,
keen competition for public favor due to modern methods of selling (Bernays, 1923. P 66). The
public relations field is as competitive like every other career fields out there. To be a good
practitioner you need to have networking and being able to handle any sort situations, that is what
will keep you high in the competition.

Study on Essential Hypertension

CLINICAL SCIENCES II
INTRODUCTION
Essential hypertension, otherwise known as primary or idiopathic hypertension, is a condition of
raised blood pressure with no identifiable cause. Secondary hypertension occurs when blood
pressure elevation results from a specific and potentially treatable cause. These include renal
diseases, endocrine causes, congenital cardiovascular causes and pregnancy.
This study however, will focus on essential hypertension so as to avoid unnecessary confusion.
Blood pressure is relative to each individual and tends to vary markedly depending on height and
weight. Levels of blood pressure ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the arteries, there is thickening of each of the layers in the vessel wall, thus narrowing the
lumen and reducing its effectiveness. A similar development occurs in the arterioles causing
increased rigidity of the walls thus reducing their ability to contract and expand. Hence the lumen
size is reduced. As a result, there is slowing down of the blood flow resulting in ischaemia of cell
tissue.
This then increases the pressure through the vessels and the left ventricular myocardium or heart
muscle undergoes hypertrophy. Ischaemic heart disease and left ventricular failure are common
results of hypertension in this case.
Due to occurrence of the above, the blood vessel in the brain become more fragile and paves the
way for haemorrhage. Damage to small blood vessels within the cerebral hemispheres produce
microscopic infarctions (localised necrotic areas) appearing as small areas of brain destruction that
fill with fluid, otherwise known as hypertensive lacunae.
In malignant hypertension the vessels undergo similar changes but more acutely. Therefore the
damage is more severe, leading to actual cessation of blood flow through the vessels. This results
in multiple areas of tissue necrosis as in the glomeruli of the kidney.
As the glomeruli are part of the filtration system in the nephron of the kidney, damage can hinder
removal of waste products, salt and water from the blood stream. Progressive destruction of

Somalia in the Age of War on Terror: An Analysis of Violent Events and U.S. Covert Operations
The Zambakari Advisory
Phoenix, AZ 85005
Introduction
Somalia is a small country in the eastern part of Africa, known as The Horn of Africa . According
to the CIA World Factbook (2016), Somalia has a population of roughly 10.4 million, and 85
percent of people are Somali. Additionally, a significant part of the population is Muslim, (CIA
World Factbook, 2016), whom have contributed to the current conflict. In this report, we analyze
the recent violent conflict and U.S. intervention in Somalia.
The disorder in Somalia that has built up for many years has contributed to the growth of a
terrorist group bent on global jihad, al Shabaab (Ibrahim, 2010). Al Shabaab is an Islamist group
that has been involved in conflict with the Somalian government, and is considered one of the
major threats to Somalia s prospects for peace (Mueller, 2016).
The United States became involved with military strikes in Somalia during 2009, to combat al
Shabaab (Rotte, 2016). However, numerous civilians have lost their lives in the process.
Complicating the situation, it is not always clear whether or not al Shabaab poses an imminent
threat. Prior to 2009, the United States also set up the Alliance for the Restoration of Peace and
Counter terrorism, where they allied with Somali warlords to fight al Qaeda (Ibrahim, 2010). Since
the United States allied itself the Somalian government, drone attacks that

The Complexity of Artificial Intelligence
The complexity of artificial intelligence tasks has grown steadily, agent based systems
technology has been hailed as a new paradigm for automating, conceptualizing, designing, and
implementing such software systems. A multi agent system is a computerized system composed of
multiple interacting intelligent agents within an dynamic environment. Agents are intelligent
computer programs that act autonomously on behalf of their users, across open and distributed
environments, to solve a complex problems. Such system helps in solving the problem that are
beyond the individual capacities or knowledge of each agent or problem solver[1]. Autonomous
vehicles are no longer in the realm of science fiction, thanks to the artificial intelligence and
integration of numerous automotive technologies that have matured over many years[2].
Autonomous vehicles could save lives, reduce traffic, reduce accidents, and help the environment
by reducing fuel demands and pollution. One such example is Military Drones. Technologies such
as adaptive cruise control, forward collision warn ing, lane departure warning, and V2V/V2I
communications are being merged into one complex system. When designing systems that are
complex, dynamic and stochastic in nature, simulation is generally recognized as one of the best
design support technologies, and a valuable aid in the strategic and tactical decision making
process. Such simulation can very well be useful where the effects of implementation of a

Rhetorical Analysis Of General Macarthur s Speech Duty,...
Soldiers should live Duty, Honor, Country, but what does that entail? The speech given in 1962
to the young cadets at Westpoint was an influential piece still referred to today. In General
MacArthur s address Duty, Honor, Country Address at West Point, I will identify the rhetorical
devices, persuasive appeals, perspective, and tone used, as well as the impact those devices have
on the meaning of this speech. First, in this speech, there are no rhetorical questions given.
Although, General MacArthur s speech contains parallelism in ideas. For example, he includes
you stand as the Nation s war guardians, as its lifeguards from the raging tides of international
conflict, as its gladiators in the arena of battle, he shows that the cadets have many risks they
sacrifice for their country. All of the people he compares are protecting someone. Using
parallelism in ideas makes his speech impactful by being able to find a common theme
throughout and a sense to revisit while in the gloomy battlefields of war. The parallelism in
structure used in his address is We are reaching out for a new and boundless frontier. We speak in
strange terms: of harnessing the cosmic energy; of making winds and tides work for us; of
creating unheard synthetic materials to supplement or even replace our old standard basics; of

Credit Cards Disadvantages
There are many banks in the world. They have been offering many services for their users.
Among them, one service is credit cards. They produced many kinds of credit cards such as
student card, everyday card, woman s card, visa card, master card, platinum card, gold card,
business card and so on. Credit cards are very useful in our daily life. It is an electronic payment
system. It can use every time and everywhere. It is a small thing that makes a small plastic card.
We can take it easy. Therefore, we don t need to carry a lot of money. Recent year, credit cards are
very popular in Myanmar. Although there are many advantages for using it, on the other hand, it
has many disadvantages. Nowadays, almost people are used electronic payment cards such as
credit card, debit card and so on. Credit cards are more popular than other electronic payment
cards because it not requires saving money first in the user bank. According to Vera Birukova
(26/12/2017), a credit card allows you to borrow money to pay for things. There will be a limit
to how much you can borrow called your credit limit. At the end of each month you can either
pay off the full amount you owe or pay defined minimum proportion of the bill by a due date.
There are many advantages for using it because we can buy things in another country without
having to worry about local currency. We can make purchases with it on online, can save money
for transportation, and can t waste a time. Many credit cards offer some type of insurance if your
purchase is stolen. But there are many disadvantages for using it because it can take some
crimes such as fraud among cardholders. The biggest disadvantage is that they are inviting
cardholders to spend more money that they don t yet have. It is far too easy to spend more than
you can afford using a credit card. Credit cards can be stolen, as can cash. They may be physically
stolen or someone may steal your credit card number from a website, over the phone etc. (Vera

horror film in a documentary style movie. The release of the film in 1999 marked a new phase
in the creation of films. The Blair Witch Project set a benchmark for production of films of
different genres, especially for horror movies. The fixtures of the genre, horror films, have long
being characterized by the presence of graphical violence and torture by villains like monsters,
ghosts, demons and madmen or psychopaths. Prior to the release of the Blair Witch Project, most
horror movies were developing in many ways especially in the storyline and justifications of the
supernatural characters and scenes. Blair Witch Project was very special in many ways, using
mystery, suspense and foreshadowing to create the intense fear and scare in the audience. Since the
1980s, the horror movies have changed dramatically. With every new experience through
innovation, in the filmindustry, the horror films are expected to change with time, and in a whole
new dimension. The film Blair Witch Project, produced in 1999, has had an incredible impact and

biggest traders we have partnered with is Europe. We have traded about a value of $50 billion
dollars or more with Europe. Europe and America did not have conflict, there was too much at
stake. Both were making a lot of money off of each other, so if they went to war they would both
most likely lose money.War and trade were overlapping other places possibly because of money
, also because of who is trading with who and what they re trading. Trading agricultural goods and

Introduction
After Hatshepsut, Cleopatra was the only Queen of Egypt who was seriously referred to as
Pharaoh . The torrid love affair between one of the highest regarded Queens in history and that of
the phenomenal Julius Caesar is considered to be one of the most romantic and grand ones in the
world. Cecil B. Demille seems to agree in the trailer to his 1934 film Cleopatra . Maybe this
notion is true after all, but when falling head over heels with the idea of this romance, one tends to

An 1898 performance of Julius Caesar at Her Majesty s Theatre was reviewed by Percy Simpson
who described Calpurnia as a tragic character in her own right, a Cassandra like figure who

described her performance; To her horror, Caesar demands his robe, Calpurnia kneels protesting,
but to no avail. For the remainder of the scene she sits in the chair at LC, a terrified witness to her

languish caused by being a witness to the torment her husband is made to go through.

Essay on The Psychology of Freud
The Psychology of Freud
After Charles Darwin, Sigmund Freud (1836 1939) probably revolutionized Western thought more
than any other thinker in the past century. His psychodynamic approach to psychology and the
forces behind human motivations is best known for its focus on childhood sexuality and his picture
of the mind. His research focused on case studies of individuals and their motivations first through
hypnosis and later through a technique that he called psychoanalysis where he allowed the patient
to talk freely and experience a cathartic release of emotions.
Freud was greatly influenced by the science of the time, especially the Darwinian revolution and
advances in physics. The Darwinian idea that people are merely ... Show more content on

Freud pays most attention to the unconscious, the completely invisible layer of the mind and seat
of wishes and motivations. The metaphor of an iceberg is often used to describe the levels of
consciousness; the conscious is only the very tip of the iceberg that is visible above the water, the
preconscious is just below the surface and only slightly visible, while the vast majority of the
iceberg, as well as the mind s processes, lie below, in the unconscious.
The three forces shaping human personality are the id, the ego, and the superego. Most of the
interaction between the three occurs on the unconscious level, especially processes of the id and
the superego (Seligman). The id, known as the pleasure principle, demands immediate gratification
of desires. Infants are controlled solely by the id, and thus act whenever they feel any lack of their
wants. To counteract the id is an internalization of societal demands in the superego. The superego
strives to direct actions toward morality and socially acceptable actions. The superego corresponds
to the everyday conscience that tells us when we are doing something bad.
The tension between the id and superego is mediated by the ego, or the reality principle. When the
goals of the two forces conflict, as they often do, the ego works to satisfy desires as much as

The American Express ( Axp )
Background
In May 15 American Express (AXP) launched a coalition loyalty program called Plenti. Under
coalition loyalty programs, members can earn and redeem points by shopping at participating
merchants (e.g., Exxon, Macys, Rite Aid and ATT.) The program helps consumers to earn rewards
faster and lead to a higher level of engagement with a program which provides merchants an
opportunity to attract new customers and run cross promotional campaigns. However, the biggest
challenge in launching the program was signing up merchants and building an economic case for
shifting away from proprietary to collaborative program.
AXP was in negotiations with Rite Aid to join the program. Under their old loyalty program
(Wellness+), Rite Aid issued reward dollars (+UPs).The dollars could be used for purchase within
their stores over next two weeks, while in Plenti program the points (1 point = 1 cents) are valid
for three years and can be redeemed at any participating merchant. Rite Aid was concerned that if
they joined Plenti, customers will continue to earn points at Rite Aid but with more redemption
options and longer validity, the redemptions will be skewed towards other merchants especially the
Grocer Partner. In effect, they will be subsidizing a loyalty program for the Grocer.
Challenge
As part of the negotiations, our team was tasked to identify and propose Performance Guarantees to
address Rite Aid s concerns.
With no data and uncertainty about other merchants who will

Jindal Moves to Strip Food Stamps from Abusers
Jindal Moves to Strip Food Stamps from Abusers:
This article provides the argument that the Governor of Louisiana, Governor Jindhal, plans to
charge the recipients of food stamp benefits in his county with fraud is justified if they abused the
system during a mechanical shut down. Apparently when the food stamp system shut down, it no
longer recognized the available balance on benefit cards. As a result, active participants were not
only allowed to use their cards for an unrestricted amount well beyond their available limit, but
those who were no longer active participants were allowed to use their cards for an unrestricted
amount as well.
The governor s administration is suggesting that the minimum penalty would be 12 months off the
program to a maximum penalty of permanently removed from the program. Apparently, there is an
emergency protocol for stores to set an emergency spending limit of $50 to food stamp card holders
should the system shut down. Many of the larger merchants such as Wal Mart chose not to honor
the emergency limit and instead of rejecting use of the cards, they allowed unlimited use. Millholon
(2013) stated, More than 12,000 transactions generated insufficient funds notice once the electronic
benefits transfer, or EBT, system came back online Oct. 12, 2013 and retailers could process stored
transactions (para. 2).
However the State of Louisiana will not have to pay out all that money. Apparently because the
stores did not honor the $50

n the movie Into the Wild by Sean Penn main character, Chris McCandless is a scholar student
who just graduated from college. His parents always wanted him to be a perfect student, but he
wanted different and decides to run away to escape what his life should be . The abuse and
arguing of his parents was suggested to be one of the main reasons he goes into the wild. He takes
on multiple risks throughout his adventure. For Chris, the first risk was abandoning his family,
burning his social security card, donating all his money, hitchhiking, going down the river without
any knowledge, inscribing his message and then eating the berries. If anything happens there is no

From what the movie say Chris wanted to get away from his abusive family that he had. He also

it out he could have planned where exactly he was going to stay. He could have brought a map so
he had some idea of where he actually was going. It could have changed the events that happened
throughout his adventure and would have changed the outcome.
Hitchhiking is a huge risk in itself, you never know what the outcome could be. Chris was
determined and just wanted to start over with his new life in the wild. Chris gets rides from
multiple people during the duration of his adventure. During those times, he could have been
killed by one of the drivers. Of course, he was determined and was not thinking ahead of what the
outcome could be. And at the same time, he was just in a rush to get to his destination that he didn t

The Dust Bowl During The Great Plains Region
The dust bowl was a devastating time in the United States history that occurred during the 1930s,
caused by atypically high temperatures, perpetual drought and new farming methods. Vigorous
winds disturbed the topsoil, resulting in overwhelming dust storms which destroyed an immense
amount of farms, in upwards of 100,000. These storms devastated the source of income for the
farmers affected. The dust bowlwas located in the Great Plainsregion, which includes the states of
Oklahoma, Kansas, and Northern Texas. Thousands of workers were faced with an impasse,

Essay On Factory Farming
Do you know what your meal went through to get to your plate and how it is affecting your day to
day life? Factory farming is an industrial type operation that uses large quantities of animals to
provide food fast and efficiently. Almost all the meats and animal byproducts that we consume,
cause harm and pain to the animals as they go through the cycle of factory farmingand it might
cause issues affecting your health. Factory farming is unethical because the practices are
uneconomical, unsanitary, and unnecessary. Factory farming is raising livestockwith one intent in
mind, which is getting money fast while spending little. They use shortcuts to make production
more efficient, but do so without the animal s wellbeing in mind. Some people agree with the
prospects of factory farming because they benefit economically. When going to the local grocery

Tanishq was the largest overseas chain in US with 1,200 outlets. In the year 2000, exports

How Did Galileo Galilei A Renaissance Change Maker
Galileo Galilei was an astronomer, physicists and mathematician who made great discoveries for
science. Today I will be walking you through the life of Galileo and how he was a Renaissance
change maker. Galileo Galilei had a great impact during the Renaissance, in the fields of physics
and astronomy, by applying the methods of hypothesizing, experimenting and his ability to stand

scholar who made crucial theories and practice in the music field. In his mid teens, Galileo went to

studying, Galileo was distracted by his interest in Mathematics, a profession that his father

A Brief Note On Armenia And The Soviet Nation
Like everyone else in my family, I was born in Yerevan, Armenia. My parents decided to move
our family to the United States in 2000 to live with my grandfather on my mom s side. We left
our entire family in Armenia to be able to have a better life in the United States. Armenia was a
soviet nation and when the USSR collapsed, so did most of Armenias economy. People struggled to
make money and life there quickly became very hard. My parents always tell me stories of when
my brother and I were babies and what our familyhad to do to be able to provide food and clothes
for us. There were certain times a day where families got electricity and water. People that didn t
live in the city lives in ore rural areas that were referred to villages since they were
underdeveloped. People in the city lived in apartments. It was very common for people to live
with entire families in a small home or apartment. My parents lived in my dad s family home in
the city with his entire family of twelve people. My parents struggled a lot to be able to keep my
brother and I comfortable through the freezing winters and scorching summers. Life in Armenia
became too hard for them. That s when they decided it was time to make a huge change and
leave everyone we knew behind to move to a foreign nation with a dream of having a better life.
We moved to Los Angeles in 2000 to live with my grandfather. I don t remember much from that
time since I was so young, but I do remember how different everything was.

Sputnik And The Space Race
On October 4, 1957, the Space Race between the United States and the Soviet Union commenced
in a sudden, explosive fashion. The Soviet Union launched Sputnik , humanity s very first
artificial satellite, into outer space. Sputnik, meaning fellow traveler in Russian, is now
synonymous with the Cold War and the Space Race. Sputnik s purpose was twofold the first
reason was purely to beat the U.S. to outer space. However, Sputnik had scientific reasons to be in
space as well. The Soviet Union determined five objectives for Sputnik to accomplish during her
time in space: 1. Test the method of placing an artificial satellite into Earth s orbit, 2. Provide
information on the density of the atmosphere by calculating its lifetime in orbit, 3. Test radio and
optical methods of orbital tracking, 4. Determine the effects of radio wave propagation through the
atmosphere, and 5. Check principles of pressurization used on satellites. When the Soviet Union
beat the United States by launching something into space first, the U.S. reaction was palpable.
Public fear and anxiety spread throughout the nation, along with a sense of nationalism and pride.
The United States must answer with a launch, or face humiliation and defeat.

Analysis Of The Movie Dear White People By Justin Simien

We have heard it a lot that We have a black President so racismmust be over ? We have seen a lot

The Beauty Of Cosmetic Surgery
Elliott (2011) argued that popular and media culture today are introducing a wholesale shift away
from a focus on personalities to celebrity body parts and their artificial enhancement. The interest of
celebrity is gazing at their body parts, and it links the relationship between celebrity culture and
cosmetic surgery. While there is a desire on being alike to the celebritycan achieve beauty, the
demand of cosmetic surgery has increased in the society. As not many people could meet the
standard of beauty, cosmetic surgery is the fastest way to obtain a perfect body and is generally
accepted by the public nowadays. It allows the commodification of the body. Swami (2009)
reported that individuals who have negative self perceptions of their attractiveness or are
dissatisfied with their appearance may view cosmetic surgery as a means of repairing damaged
self concepts. For those who are distanced from the ideal beauty, cosmetic surgery provide an
opportunity to have a modification of the body, it is a process of using money to exchange

How Racing Share The Same Fundamentals Of Racing
Regardless of if you enjoy racing or not, you likely know what either Nascar or Formula One is.
In the United States of America, Nascar is by far the most popular form of racing. This popularity
allows the sport to have its 4.5 billion [dollar] television contract that began in 2007 (Odland).
Meanwhile in the rest of the world, Formula Oneis the most popular. Evidently, Formula One
generates an immense amount of wealth as well. Red Bull, a sponsor in Formula One, is
thought to have generated an estimated $283 million in brand exposure in just one season
alone(Smith). Due to the fact that they are both forms of racing, a multitude of people group
these two very different genres of racing together and claim that they are basically the same.
While there are some central similarities, these are two abundantly different forms of racing. The
most important and basic similarity is that both forms of racing share the same fundamentals of
racing. The essential differences between the two include the cars that are driven as well as the
tracks used for races. Both Nascar and Formula One share the same fundamentals of racing. The
ultimate goal is to win every race that you possibly can. This is done by finishing before, often
in front of, everyone else. In each form of racing, drivers take what are called pit stops. This is
when a driver pulls into a designated area where his/her team is located. Then that teams provides
car adjustments and fuel. These pit stops are critical

Jhon Fanque
Date performed January 18, 2015
Introduction/ Abstract:
Simple harmonic motion is the study of oscillation. An object undergoes oscillation when it
experiences a restoring force which restores this object to equilibrium positon. The Simple
harmonic oscillation occurs when the net force on an object along the direction of motion is
proportional to the object s displacement and in the opposite direction by this equation F = kx. In
addition, an object whose position time graph makes a sine or cosine function is in simple
harmonic motion. This type of relation is called Hooke s law. The purpose of this experiment is to
prove Hooke s law and study Simple harmonic motion and to show that this equation T = 2 is valid
during Simple harmonic motion.
Theory:
The relevant theoretical concepts and equations used in this experiment are:
T = 2

Experimental Procedure:
The Computer and sensor calibration along with equipment such as DIN plug, force sensor, rod,
clamp, spring, sensor s hook, and hanger were all set up already in the laboratory before we started
doing the experiment.

Understanding and critically Evaluating Entry Modes of...
Business s choice of entry modes in international market and its advantages and disadvantages
Introduction Well known companies like Nike, Microsoft, Sony, Shell Group are just some of the
big companies that went global and expanded their trading around the world, they are large
businesses that operate internationally in many countries. Development of worldwide integration
urges companies to reach out international markets and interact with foreign customers. Businesses
focus on fulfilling the demand of the market by its products or services, besides their target is
increasing profit, in order achieve these goals they favor to expand their work in a foreign market.
Other reasons to internationalize their business may be to become... Show more content on

How these modes were established and by whom will be defined in the following part. In 1977
Swedish researchers at Uppsala University came up with a model/theory how businesses should
grow their activities in foreign market, this model explains that companies should select an entry
mode by taking into consideration their own resources and exploring costs, and risks based on
market nature. (Johanson and Vahnle, 2009) Researchers at Uppsala University in their empirical
study found that Swedish firms mostly started their process of internationalization by exporting,
initially companies had agents that represented them in foreign market, but these firms exported in
countries that had little differentiation in culture, language and political systems from their home
country, this was labeled in their model as physically close countries. Uppsala Model considers
two types of knowledge objective and experience based knowledge, the model describes that after
first entrance in foreign market businesses understands how to work in external country, and later
they step by step increase level of internationalization to physically distant countries. (Johanson and
Vahnle, 2009) But, can Uppsala model be applied to services? This model was mainly reliable for
manufacturing industries; a paper with contrary arguments was published in 2008, providing two
variables; environment related and service specific, to question whether Uppsala model can be
used for service

The Effects Of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome On Infants
Professor Sandmire
Bio 440
30 April 2015 The Effects of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome on Infants
Abstract
Fetal alcohol syndrome is caused when women during their pregnancy drink alcohol and cause
developmental problems that can affect the fetus and infant for the rest of his or her life. Fetal
alcohol syndrome can cause facial abnormalities, mental retardation, and a significant decrease in
overall growth of the fetus.1 There are numerous studies about prevalence of fetal alcohol
syndrome, and its effects on physical, neurological, and socioemotional functions of children. Many
studies highlight that the risk of fetal alcohol increases by the amount of alcohol a woman drinks
during her pregnancy. Many studies also support the idea that the more alcohol that is consumed
during pregnancy, the greater the severity of the associated abnormalities that are found in the
child. Because there is no cure for fetal alcohol syndrome, researchers have tried to achieve
successful prevention plans by studying several options that could be implemented. The work that
has been done to try and help children who have fetal alcohol syndrome is extensive but allows for
further research.2
Introduction
Fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) is a disorder that develops in a child when a woman drinks alcohol
during a pregnancy.2 It is usually characterized by many abnormalities like deficient growth,
cognitive dysfunction that usually causes behavioral and mental issues, and a very specific set of

Taiping Rebellion Research Paper
December of 1850 to 1864 gave us an event that has been lost in time, yet this extraordinary event
took the lives of over 20,000,000 Chinese people, more casualties than any other world event
except WWII. This event was called the Taiping Rebellion, it was started by Hong Xiuquan an
educated man in the southern province of Guangxi, in a time when Chinawas a weak point after the
end of the first Opium War. During this time of uncertainty the Qing Dynastywas on the edge of
collapsing, six decades before it actually did fall. Many events attributed the start, continuation and
end of this so called civil war.
The Taiping Rebellion came at a time when China was at a low point. As Dr. Stephen R. Platt,

The Taiping Rebellion, even though they claim to follow Christianity their actions were far
from it. The Taiping Rebellion burned, destroyed, brutally murdered and raped people . The
Taiping overan cities and were violent to the local population, rioting even when the villagers
didn t do anything to hurt them. Bandits robbed seemingly at will, the Hakka people fought
constantly over farmland. Xiuquan who failed the imperial civil service exam four times was
the founder of the Taiping Rebellion. After the 3rd attempt in 1837 of the exam, he became ill
and had dreams of Heaven. His dreams included God speaking to him and telling him to get rid
of the demon devils. There was also another older male in the dream. He had these dream for 40
days. After getting back to normal Hong s went for his 4th attempt and failure in 1843 of the
civil exams, he was devastated. He found a pamphlet given to him years before by a American
Missionary, and that pamphlet he believed explained his dreams. Xiuquan believed he was the
younger brother of Jesus and so forth the son of God. Hong started to obtain follower and they
called themselves God worshipers. He believed that the evil demons were the Machun people and

Essay on Offshore Drilling
Offshore Drilling
What is it?
Drilling for oil in the ocean is one of the greatest technological breakthroughs in recent decades,
and many new techniques have been developed to profit from the abundance of oil underneath the
ocean floor. While drilling for oil has been around for hundreds of years in one form or the another,
the effective extraction of petroleum from beneath the sea floor did not surface until the last forty
years. The search for oil often turns out to be unproductive, but this practice is vital for the
economic future of many nations.
In order for any drilling to take place, an offshore drilling rig must first be installed. These offshore
platforms can be situated in water up to a several hundred meters in depth. ... Show more content on

These production platforms come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and types, which are dependent on
the dimensions of the field, the depth of the water and how far the oil and/or gas field is from shore.
The platforms are generally made of steel and fixed to the seabed with steel posts. These platforms
harbor all of the processing equipment for the well and can house a maximum of 80 workers. In
addition, platforms have concrete structures large enough to store oil, with gravity keeping them
situated on the seabed
Explanation of Drilling
Drilling begins once the drill bit is lowered to the ocean floor. This first step is referred to as
spudding.
There are two types of drill bits: (1) a roller cone or rock bit which usually has three cones armed
with steel or tungsten carbide teeth or buttons; or (2) a diamond bit, imbedded with small
industrial diamonds. The drill bit is attached to drill pipe and rotated by a turntable on the platform
floor. As the hole deepens, extra lengths of drill pipe are attached. (Offshore Drilling)
The diameter of the drill bit varies from a diameter of 36 inches, which is used when the hole in
the ocean floor is first started, to a diameter of 8.5 inches. The total length of a drill pipe is 30 feet.
The time it takes for the drill to reach the oil and gas trap could be weeks.
In order to move the drill cuttings

Descriptive Essay About Giso
Do you like it Paris? Caitlin held the Gucci dress up for her to see. Oh my God! Paris squealed.
She admired the beauty in front of her. The Gucci dress that is. It was one of a kind. It was a
stretch jersey with an open back. Her little black dress. When she tried it on, it was form fitting
but it looks sexy on her. It also shows a lot of cleavage. She admired her 5 3 frame in the seven
foot mirror. She smiles at herself, noting the light shining its way back through her eyes. Girl,
you are wearing that dress. Caitlin whistled and her girls laughs. Caitlin watched as the girls
held Paris long auburn hair that is now down her back high up in the air. Paris spins as she
laughs happily with them while Caitlin stood back admiring her. What a sexy doll. I want her.
Too bad she doesn t know what she really in for. Caitlin thought. She sighs. What s going on
Damn! one of the guys was asking when he saw how gorgeous Paris looks in the dress. He was
taken aback. Isn t she stunning? Caitlin asks him, who goes by the name, Draco. Yes. She. Does.
Draco awed, and laughs with the girls. Boy, close your damn mouth! You re drooling. Caitlin
joked. Draco wipes the nonexistent drool, and was loving how the dress seem to fit perfectly
around Paris breasts and butt. He was in love. After moments of being admired so much, Paris went
to the bathroom to change back into her loose fitting jeans and sweater. Caitlin wants her to ride

Because I Could Not Stop For Death And Death Be Not Proud
Death and the afterlife exist as the most controversial topics in existence. Mortality is a fact, but
no one knows what happens afterwards. Some choose to believe in an afterlife, others believe
death to be the end. Many artists and writers have tried to interpret death and restrict it to a picture
or words. It can prove challenging as no one has experienced deathand lived to tell the tale. Though
challenging it has not prevented those brave enough to attempt to capture the essence of death.
Death be not Proud by John Donne, Because I could not stop for Death and I Heard a Fly Buzz
When I Died both by Emily Dickinson, attempt to confine death into a prison made of letters.
These poems deal with different encounters with metaphorical death. Death be not Proud deals
with death in the present tense. The narrator encounters personified death face to face, and begins
spouting their opinions of him. They compare death to rest and sleep, degrading death s power.
Next he declares death nothing but a slave to fate chance. As if all the insults did not suffice, the
finishing blow comes when the narrator calls death a short sleep. Because once they die they will
just live again eternally, instead death will die forever. Donne wrote from a Christian viewpoint,
believing death is not worthy of fear.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

appearance, stealing the final moments of the deceased s attention. Somewhat fittingly, this poem
and Because I could not stop for Death were published posthumously, considering both speakers

Labor Camps In The Book Between Shades Of Gray
In the book, Between shades of gray, the central theme is will to survive because a Lithuanian
family, Elena, Lina, and Jonas were banished to Labor Camps for being just Lithuanians along
with other families from Estonia and Latvia. At the work Camps, they faced many
complications. In exchange for their efforts, prisoners received a small amount of bread. They were
working for food. A full day of hard work was equal to 500 grams (0.5 kg) of bread. Physically
weaker prisoners could only earn 100 (0.1 kg) grams of bread. This caused many people to either
fall sick or dead. Even though it was freezing outside they would still work hard to survive. In the
forced labor camps the prisoners were treated tempestuously and were given exceedingly little

Essay on The Jungle by Upton Sinclair, Jr.
At the beginnings of the 1900s, some leading magazines in the U.S have already started to exhibit
choking reports about unjust monopolistic practices, rampant political corruption, and many other
offenses; which helped their sales to soar. In this context, in 1904, The Appeal to Reason, a
leading socialist weekly, offered Sinclair $500 to prepare an exposГ© on the meatpackingindustry
(Cherny). To accomplish his mission, Sinclair headed to Chicago, the center of the meatpacking
industry, and started an investigation as he declared I spent seven weeks in Packingtown studying
conditions there, and I verified every smallest detail, so that as a picture of social conditions the
book is as exact as a government report (Sinclair, The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And he writes of dishonest politicians and tricky real estate salesmen. At the core of the story,
Sinclair tells about the devastation and the falling apart of Jurgis s family as a result of the
ruthless, abusive, and oppressive nature of work and life in Packingtown. By the end, Jurgis
wanders alone, deprived of all dignity. He comes across a rally of political socialists, hears a
speech on socialism, and enthusiastically converts to that cause. In the last chapters of the novel,
Sinclair manifests arguments for socialism, in the form of speeches that Jurgis hears. The book
ends with an appeal of a socialist speaker to Organize! Organize! Organize! so that Chicago will be
ours! Chicago will be ours! CHICAGO WILL BE OURS! (Sinclair 372 73)
So, according to some critics, it becomes clear that The Jungle is a propaganda destined to
promote socialism over capitalism, and to reveal the hollowness of the American Dream, which
capitalists define it as being the ability for people to improve their lot and to attain their aspiration
for better lives through hard work. Throughout The Jungle, Sinclair portrays the American Dream
from a socialist vision, and illustrates it as being a mere fictitious fantasy by the capitalists in order
to keep the working class blind to the truth and under their everlasting hegemony.
In regards to the American capitalist system, in Sinclair s viewpoint,

Biomechanical Summary
This article brings up evidence that argues for the ineffective use of Insoles. It shows evidence
from a biomechanics professor, Dr. Nigg, saying they only correct problems in the short term
and only for select athletes. 1 In contrast a professor goes on to say that biomechanics may not
fully understand how orthotics work .1 Supporters for inserts try to argue that they are effective
based upon the person. The co owner of Hersco Ortho lab said they do work, but choosing the
right one requires a great deal of care .1 There seems to be a contrast to this statement though,
based on evidence in the article. One study found that when individuals were able to pick which

Each is caused by a different mutation. The most common type of EB is Epidermolysis Bullosa simplex (EBS). This variation is unlike the other two in the fact that it is autosomal dominant. The gene that is mutated is called keratin 14 or KRT14 for short. This gene in particular codes for keratins, a type of protein that forms skin, hair and nails. There are over 60 mutations that have been found in people living with EBS from this gene alone. Keratin 14 is located on chromosome 17. A second type of this disorder is called Junctional Epidermolysis Bullosa (JEB). This is an autosomal recessive condition. Unlike EBS this variation of EB is more severe and causes more blistering and it is easier to blister. Mr. Bernay mention Judge Cardozo of the Court of Appeals of the State of New York, as an example that judges go through different cases a day and having to decide to pick one. How I see that example is that as PR field, no matter what clients we get, we can have a choice to help them or not. Same goes for judges while they decide on a case to work on. Therefore Bernay gives us three tendencies of fundamental importance s. Tendency number one, increase public interest in industrial aggregations (Bernay, 1923, p. 66). The first tendency basically tells PR practitioners that it is important to keep their clients and public happy. They need to find a way to make themselves stay relevant and keeping up with what the public want. Second tendency the increased readiness of the public, due to spread of literacy and democratic forms of government (Bernay, 1923, p. 66). News spread out like wildfires, when a controversy happens within the government or entertainment industry, public relations has to keep up with it and put that fire out, or else people will keep on misunderstanding and demanding information. Lastly tendency three, keen competition for public favor due to modern methods of selling (Bernays, 1923. P 66). The public relations field is as competitive like every other career fields out there. Study on Essential Hypertension PRESENTATION BY: GIZELLE WILKINSON SUBJECT: ESSENTIAL HYPERTENSION STUDENT NUMBER: M00037713 CLINICAL SCIENCES II INTRODUCTION Essential hypertension, otherwise known as primary or idiopathic hypertension, is a condition of raised blood pressure with no identifiable cause. Secondary hypertension occurs when blood pressure elevation results from a specific and potentially treatable cause. These include renal diseases, endocrine causes, congenital cardiovascular causes and pregnancy. This study however, will focus on essential hypertension so as to avoid unnecessary confusion. Blood pressure is relative to each individual and tends to vary markedly depending on height and weight. Levels of blood pressure ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the arteries, there is thickening of each of the layers in the vessel wall, thus narrowing the lumen and reducing its effectiveness. A similar development occurs in the arterioles causing increased rigidity of the walls thus reducing their ability to contract and expand. Hence the lumen size is reduced. As a result, there is slowing down of the blood flow resulting in ischaemia of cell tissue. This then increases the pressure through the vessels and the left ventricular myocardium or heart muscle undergoes hypertrophy. Ischaemic heart disease and left ventricular failure are common results of hypertension in this case. Due to occurrence of the above, the blood vessel in the brain become more fragile and paves the way for haemorrhage. Damage to small blood vessels within the cerebral hemispheres produce microscopic infarctions (localised necrotic areas) appearing as small areas of brain destruction that fill with fluid, otherwise known as hypertensive lacunae. In malignant hypertension the vessels undergo similar changes but more acutely. Therefore the damage is more severe, leading to actual cessation of blood flow through the vessels. This results in multiple areas of tissue necrosis as in the glomeruli of the kidney. As the glomeruli are part of the filtration system in the nephron of the kidney, damage can hinder removal of waste products, salt and water from the blood stream. Progressive destruction of

His psychodynamic approach to psychology and the forces behind human motivations is best known for its focus on childhood sexuality and his picture of the mind. His research focused on case studies of individuals and their motivations first through hypnosis and later through a technique that he called psychoanalysis where he allowed the patient to talk freely and experience a cathartic release of emotions. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Freud pays most attention to the unconscious, the completely invisible layer of the mind and seat of wishes and motivations. The metaphor of an iceberg is often used to describe the levels of consciousness; the conscious is only the very tip of the iceberg that is visible above the water, the preconscious is just below the surface and only slightly visible, while the vast majority of the iceberg, as well as the mind s processes, lie below, in the unconscious. The three forces shaping human personality are the id, the ego, and the superego. Most of the interaction between the three occurs on the unconscious level, especially processes of the id and the superego (Seligman). The id, known as the pleasure principle, demands immediate gratification of desires. Infants are controlled solely by the id, and thus act whenever they feel any lack of their wants. To counteract the id is an internalization of societal demands in the superego. The superego strives to direct actions toward morality and socially acceptable actions. The superego corresponds to the everyday conscience that tells us when we are doing something bad. The tension between the id and superego is mediated by the ego, or the reality principle. When the goals of the two forces conflict, as they often do, the ego works to satisfy desires as much as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. The American Express ( Axp ) Background In May 15 American Express (AXP) launched a coalition loyalty program called Plenti. Under coalition loyalty programs, members can earn and redeem points by shopping at participating merchants (e.g., Exxon, Macys, Rite Aid and ATT.) The program helps consumers to earn rewards faster and lead to a higher level of engagement with a program which provides merchants an opportunity to attract new customers and run cross promotional campaigns. However, the biggest challenge in launching the program was signing up merchants and building an economic case for shifting away from proprietary to collaborative program. AXP was in negotiations with Rite Aid to join the program. Under their old loyalty program (Wellness+), Rite Aid issued reward dollars (+UPs).The dollars could be used for purchase within their stores over next two weeks, while in Plenti program the points (1 point = 1 cents) are valid for three years and can be redeemed at any participating merchant. Rite Aid was concerned that if they joined Plenti, customers will continue to earn points at Rite Aid but with more redemption options and longer validity, the redemptions will be skewed towards other merchants especially the Grocer Partner. In effect, they will be subsidizing a loyalty program for the Grocer. Challenge As part of the negotiations, our team was tasked to identify and propose Performance Guarantees to address Rite Aid s concerns. Jindal Moves to Strip Food Stamps from Abusers Jindal Moves to Strip Food Stamps from Abusers: This article provides the argument that the Governor of Louisiana, Governor Jindhal, plans to charge the recipients of food stamp benefits in his county with fraud is justified if they abused the system during a mechanical shut down. Apparently when the food stamp system shut down, it no longer recognized the available balance on benefit cards. As a result, active participants were not only allowed to use their cards for an unrestricted amount well beyond their available limit, but those who were no longer active participants were allowed to use their cards for an unrestricted amount as well. The governor s administration is suggesting that the minimum penalty would be 12 months off the program to a maximum penalty of permanently removed from the program. Apparently, there is an emergency protocol for stores to set an emergency spending limit of $50 to food stamp card holders should the system shut down. Many of the larger merchants such as Wal Mart chose not to honor the emergency limit and instead of rejecting use of the cards, they allowed unlimited use. Millholon (2013) stated, More than 12,000 transactions generated insufficient funds notice once the electronic benefits transfer, or EBT, system came back online Oct. 12, 2013 and retailers could process stored transactions (para. 2). An object undergoes oscillation when it experiences a restoring force which restores this object to equilibrium positon. The Simple harmonic oscillation occurs when the net force on an object along the direction of motion is proportional to the object s displacement and in the opposite direction by this equation F = kx. In addition, an object whose position time graph makes a sine or cosine function is in simple harmonic motion. This type of relation is called Hooke s law. The purpose of this experiment is to prove Hooke s law and study Simple harmonic motion and to show that this equation T = 2 is valid during Simple harmonic motion. In 1977 Swedish researchers at Uppsala University came up with a model/theory how businesses should grow their activities in foreign market, this model explains that companies should select an entry mode by taking into consideration their own resources and exploring costs, and risks based on market nature. (Johanson and Vahnle, 2009) Researchers at Uppsala University in their empirical study found that Swedish firms mostly started their process of internationalization by exporting, initially companies had agents that represented them in foreign market, but these firms exported in countries that had little differentiation in culture, language and political systems from their home country, this was labeled in their model as physically close countries. Uppsala Model considers two types of knowledge objective and experience based knowledge, the model describes that after first entrance in foreign market businesses understands how to work in external country, and later they step by step increase level of internationalization to physically distant countries. (Johanson and Vahnle, 2009) But, can Uppsala model be applied to services? This model was mainly reliable for manufacturing industries; a paper with contrary arguments was published in 2008, providing two variables; environment related and service specific, to question whether Uppsala model can be used for service ... • 47. The Effects Of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome On Infants Professor Sandmire Bio 440 30 April 2015 The Effects of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome on Infants Abstract Fetal alcohol syndrome is caused when women during their pregnancy drink alcohol and cause developmental problems that can affect the fetus and infant for the rest of his or her life. Fetal alcohol syndrome can cause facial abnormalities, mental retardation, and a significant decrease in overall growth of the fetus.1 There are numerous studies about prevalence of fetal alcohol syndrome, and its effects on physical, neurological, and socioemotional functions of children. Many studies highlight that the risk of fetal alcohol increases by the amount of alcohol a woman drinks during her pregnancy. Many studies also support the idea that the more alcohol that is consumed during pregnancy, the greater the severity of the associated abnormalities that are found in the child. Because there is no cure for fetal alcohol syndrome, researchers have tried to achieve successful prevention plans by studying several options that could be implemented. The work that has been done to try and help children who have fetal alcohol syndrome is extensive but allows for further research.2 Introduction Fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) is a disorder that develops in a child when a woman drinks alcohol during a pregnancy.2 It is usually characterized by many abnormalities like deficient growth, cognitive dysfunction that usually causes behavioral and mental issues, and a very specific set of facial ... • 49. Essay on Offshore Drilling Offshore Drilling What is it? Drilling for oil in the ocean is one of the greatest technological breakthroughs in recent decades, and many new techniques have been developed to profit from the abundance of oil underneath the ocean floor. While drilling for oil has been around for hundreds of years in one form or the another, the effective extraction of petroleum from beneath the sea floor did not surface until the last forty years. The search for oil often turns out to be unproductive, but this practice is vital for the economic future of many nations. These production platforms come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and types, which are dependent on the dimensions of the field, the depth of the water and how far the oil and/or gas field is from shore. The platforms are generally made of steel and fixed to the seabed with steel posts. These platforms harbor all of the processing equipment for the well and can house a maximum of 80 workers. In addition, platforms have concrete structures large enough to store oil, with gravity keeping them situated on the seabed Explanation of Drilling Drilling begins once the drill bit is lowered to the ocean floor. This first step is referred to as spudding. There are two types of drill bits: (1) a roller cone or rock bit which usually has three cones armed with steel or tungsten carbide teeth or buttons; or (2) a diamond bit, imbedded with small industrial diamonds. The drill bit is attached to drill pipe and rotated by a turntable on the platform floor. As the hole deepens, extra lengths of drill pipe are attached. (Offshore Drilling) The diameter of the drill bit varies from a diameter of 36 inches, which is used when the hole in the ocean floor is first started, to a diameter of 8.5 inches. • 52. Because I Could Not Stop For Death And Death Be Not Proud Death and the afterlife exist as the most controversial topics in existence. Mortality is a fact, but no one knows what happens afterwards. Some choose to believe in an afterlife, others believe death to be the end. Many artists and writers have tried to interpret death and restrict it to a picture or words. It can prove challenging as no one has experienced deathand lived to tell the tale. Though challenging it has not prevented those brave enough to attempt to capture the essence of death. Death be not Proud by John Donne, Because I could not stop for Death and I Heard a Fly Buzz When I Died both by Emily Dickinson, attempt to confine death into a prison made of letters. These poems deal with different encounters with metaphorical death. Death be not Proud deals with death in the present tense. The narrator encounters personified death face to face, and begins spouting their opinions of him. They compare death to rest and sleep, degrading death s power. Next he declares death nothing but a slave to fate chance. As if all the insults did not suffice, the finishing blow comes when the narrator calls death a short sleep. Because once they die they will just live again eternally, instead death will die forever. Donne wrote from a Christian viewpoint, believing death is not worthy of fear.... In this context, in 1904, The Appeal to Reason, a leading socialist weekly, offered Sinclair $500 to prepare an exposГ© on the meatpackingindustry (Cherny). Organize! so that Chicago will be ours! Chicago will be ours! CHICAGO WILL BE OURS! Throughout The Jungle, Sinclair portrays the American Dream from a socialist vision, and illustrates it as being a mere fictitious fantasy by the capitalists in order to keep the working class blind to the truth and under their everlasting hegemony.
