Essay Political Unrest in Yemen, Terrorism, and America
The U.S. has a tough stance when it comes to terrorism, especially in regions where terrorist groups
look to take advantage of a people or a situation. In this paper I hope to answer questions pertaining to
how the political unrest in Yemen began, how Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula were formed and
what effects they have in the region as well as the implications to American policies and interests in
the Horn of Africa area. Yemen is a poor and unstable state where the political and social problems are
an issue that some groups will look to exploit while others have a vested interest in stability. An
analysis of the past and present political, economic and social issues in Yemen reveals two major
issues: The ability for terrorist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A civil war would ensue with the revolutionaries having the support of the Egyptians and the USSR
and the royalist receiving support from Saudi Arabia and Jordan until the eventual defeat of the
royalists in 1969. This would give way to a Republican government and the rise of current President
of Yemen, Ali Abdullah Saleh in 1990.
Britain controlled and occupied the south during the civil war in the north. In the 1960s the National
Liberation Front (NLF) would fight the British and with Soviet influence, the southern portion of
Yemen would become the first and only Marxist state in the Arab world winning independence in
1967. In 1990, the poor conditions and economic decay of the south would lead to a merger which
would form what we know today as The Republic of Yemen. The former leaders in the south would
find their way north in order to play a role in the newly formed government, but the current President
Saleh, who would retain his position in the newly formed state, would consistently overlook them.
The lack of representation and the steady decline of living conditions in southern Yemen would reach
a boiling point, and, in 1994 another civil war would be fought on Yemen soil, only this time the battle
was amongst the Yemeni people. Infuriated about differences over power sharing and the relative pace
of integration, southern Yemen would call for

Comparing Jane Austen s Sense And Sensibility
Jane Austen was a fabulous and accomplished writer, and Emma Thompson is a enjoyable
screenwriter; but when one watches or reads their works, it is natural as humans to ask questions.
Sometimes the questions can be answered by reviewing the sources, whether it be a movie or a book,
with more attention and purpose, but that is not always the case. There can never be complete
certainty when assuming the thoughts of others; Jane Austen may have just added in Margaret
Dashwood to Sense and Sensibility because she felt like having a third character, and now in our
present day, highschoolers are running around inventing dramatic and unique causes for this
individual s existence. Nevertheless, I will attempt to answer two questions accurately in this ... Show

In the 1995 film version of Sense and Sensibility, a major part of volume III is removed. Willoughby s
entire apology and Elinor s subsequent feelings are simply passed off; Marianne falls ill, Mrs.
Dashwood arrives, and Marianne miraculously returns to health. My first time watching this movie
left me confused, as an entire chapter consisting of nearly fifty five hundred words was not there. Not
only that, but the chapter provided clear remorse from Willoughby; while he still values money over
love, he is penitent of some of the damage his poor choices inflicted, and he goes to apologize even
when there is no need to. The big screen version instead shows Willoughby at the wedding of
Marianne and Colonel Brandon, staring regretfully from afar. The first explanation that comes to mind
would be for the sake of time. While the 1995 adaptation of Sense and Sensibility is two hours and
twenty minutes, a miniseries consisting of three sixty minute episodes was released in 2008. The latter
contains Willoughby s apology, while the former has no mention. While the miniseries had the room
to smoothly explain such a story, the film could not add in the plea without it appearing to be
shoehorned in. Furthermore, the second cause for nixing the scene would be to make Willoughby even
more of a wicked libertine. Even when a girl he professed to love lay deathly ill, he did even pay a
visit! Surely there is no justification for that, lest one say work is more important that human life. This
move cemented the audience s hatred of Willoughby, and when he appeared the final time on screen,

An impressive and long term follow up study may establish the efficient role of GT in disease therapy.
Over nine years of follow up, among more than three hundred thousand people in Japan suggest that
green tea consumption was inversely associated with the incidence of liver cancer [86]. Moreover, GT
showed its efficacy as a potential activator of other anticancer drug also. Green tea catechin augmened
the antitumor activity of doxorubicin induced mouse model for chemo resistant liver cancer [87].
Report suggests that urinary excretions of EGC/ EC can be regarded as reliable biomarkers for green
tea consumption in human populations. The results also suggest GTP effectively diminished the
oxidative DNA damage.

Inhibition of green tea catechins against the growth of cancerous human colon and hepatic epithelial
cells are also reported [92]. N Nitrosobis (2 oxopropyl)amine and/or oxidized soybean oil are
demonstrated to increase the oxidative DNA damage of hamster pancreas and liver and production of
8 oxodG. And this was suppressed by the green tea supplementation. This wok suggests that GTC
might have the beneficial effect on important organ [93]. Induction of mutagenesis in rodents by 4
(methylnitrosamino) 1 (3 pyridyl) 1 butanone 4 (methylnitrosamino) 1 (3 pyridyl) 1 butanone and N
nitrosonornicotine is demonstrated in liver tissues of rodents. But, green tea significantly reduced
mutagenesis by approximately 15 50% in liver, lung, pooled oral tissue and esophagus in this study
[94]. Another finding suggests that green tea might act as an anti promoter against pentachlorophenol
PCP induced mouse hepatocarcinogenesis via its ability to prevent down regulation of gap junctional
intercellular communication GJIC (Fig 4) [95]. Report suggests that GTE is a possible
chemopreventive agent for nitrosamine initiated hepatocarcinogenesis, but not with a choline deficient
diet. This suggests that essential nutrient and micronutrient exert its obvious involvement in the
metabolic processes [96]. So, suggestion can be made that GTE with

Middle Childhood Essay examples
Middle childhood is defined a number of ways, but perhaps best defined as the ages 6 to 12 years of
age or prepubescent to pubescence Middle childhood is a challenging time and a major challenge is
social constructs, as this is the earliest time when children begin to move away from parental
influences and establish more meaningful peer and other adult relationships. It signifies a new set of
social contacts with adults and other children as well as a wider variety of settings than those that
characterize early childhood. Children begin to see themselves as a part of a bigger whole. Peer
influences can become more powerful than the adults in the children s life and impact their sense of
self. Grouping is established and teasing of others ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This methodology encompasses examining the child s life through many different contexts, such as:
demography, history, sociology, biology, developmental psychology, and economics. ( w. website )
The Life Course Perspective takes the combination of the historical and social factors and sees them in
an individual s course of personal development. A life course is defined as a sequence of socially
defined events and roles that the individual enacts over time. ( W. website ) The theory loosely follows
the sage old adage, To know where you re going, you have to know where you have been. More
precisely, the theory explains that the roles, events or transitions in an individual s life don t naturally
progress in a structures order, but instead but create the sum of one s life experience. (website)
Transitions play an important role in the life experience.
Transitions are considered by the Life Course Perspective to be changes in roles and statuses that
represent a distinct departure from prior roles and statuses. (page 14) They can affect a child in a
myriad of ways: both positively and negatively and many center on the experience the child has in the
family construct. The way that the child moves through these transitions can define their life trajectory
and the choices later in life. An example of this can be seen in The Season s of Life series, Trey

Analysis Of I m Ridiculous
The next afternoon, as promised, Joan returned to Perceval s chambers for a visit. Unfortunately, no
matter how hard she willed away the thoughts, she couldn t stop herself from thinking about Perceval
s head buried between her legs, or her mouth working his erection. Her heart pounded just imagining
it and her face felt warm. In the past, she might have thought such acts were a little scary or
overwhelming. But imagining engaging in such activities with Perceval was more exciting than
anything else.
Still, there was a time and place to have such thoughts, and now was not the time.
I m ridiculous, Joan admonished herself under her breath as she neared the castle. Pull yourself
together, Joan.
She approached the guard and went through the same process as the day before: announcing herself to
the guard, declaring she had no weapons, and stating her business. Joan was then permitted entry.
As she ascended the tower stairs, she had a wild idea: What would Perceval do if I pushed him into the
bed and unlaced his trousers like Carina did to Sir Michael, and then...
She shook off the images as she knocked on Perceval s chamber door and did her best to not think of
cucumbers.
Come, said Perceval, answering her knock.
Terrible word choice! Joan thought.
She pushed open the heavy wooden door and entered. Today, Perceval wore his tunic and he sat at the
dining table reading a book. Joan was thrilled to see him more up and about, but a part of her had
hoped to catch another

years first in trying to prove that the quantum theory had inconsistencies in it. No one could have been
more ingenious in thinking up unexpected and clever examples; but it turned out that the
inconsistencies were not there; and often their resolution could be found in earlier work of Einstein
himself. When that did not work, after repeated efforts, Einstein had simply to say that he did not like
the theory. He did not like the elements of indeterminacy. He did not like the abandonment of
continuity or of causality. (Oppenheimer, Robert)
He summed up his scientific career by saying The real goal of my research has always been the
simplification of and unification of the systems of theoretical physics ( Einstein). Einstein did not like
to conform to the ideas of others and so was always different and alone in his thoughts.
His scientific work has allowed for a much broader understanding of how the world works and made
some very useful inventions possible.
Albert Einstein s scientific theories accelerated the development of the world like never before and he
gave scientists the tools to mold almost every observable aspect of life as we live today. From nuclear
energy production to synchronization of GPS satellites to computers to many everyday consumer

Trans-Trans Dibenzalacetone Lab Report
After the crude product was collected by crystallization process, it was weighted to be 8.4756 g. it was
recrystallized and collected. The weight of pure product was obtained to be 5.772 g In comparison to
the theoretical yield of the experiment; it was calculated to be 65.99 % recover and 82% total yield.
The melting point (MP) of the product was taken in order to identify the product. 2 trials were
performed, and the results of both trials are the same, 102 105oC. The expected product of this
experiment was dibenzalacetone, which has 3 different isomers: cis cis, trans trans, and cis trans, with
different MPs and boiling point (BP). The true MP of Trans trans dibenzalacetone isomer is 110
110oC (ref. 3). The true MP of cis cis dibenzalacetone isomer is 60oC (ref. 3). Cis cis dibenzalacetone
doesn t have MP because its appearance is oil (ref.3). In, comparison to all the isomers, the product s
MP was closet to trans trans dibenzalacetone, although the product MP was lower than the true MP of
trans trans dibenzalacetone. There were some possible reasons why the MP of the product was lower.
The intermediate, benzalacetone with the MP of 42oC (Ref. 2), could be existed in the product
resulting in lower the MP of the product. Another reason could be that the cis trans isomer of
dibenzalacetone existed in the product. In order to confirm which reason is the case, infrared spectrum

Through the analysis of IR spectrum, the product was confirmed to have both cis trans isomer and
trans trans isomer of dibenzalacetone in the product. Trans trans isomer was the major product,
because of the Experimental MP was closer to the trans trans isomer MP, 110 111 oC, than cis trans
isomer MP, 60oC. The % yield of the reaction was calculated to be 82% yield, with 65.99 % recovery

Persuasive Essay On Syrian War
Syria, like many other middle eastern countries is a country of strong culture, history, and beauty.
Unfortunately the corruption within their government has left innocent people no other choice but to
flee due to the complete lack of regard for human life. Innocent people of Syria are forced out of their
country due to attacks from every imaginable angle. The Syrian Government, ISIS, and the Syrian
Democratic Forces are mainly responsible for these attacks; therefore, the citizens of Syria are left
with no other option but to leave in hopes of achieving a safer life. For once was a land of cherished
history is now a war zone due to these circumstances. Canada has welcomed innocent citizens of Syria
into our country and I believe it is the right thing to do. Innocent Syrians are being killed due to a
senseless war, women and children are being forced into sex slavery, even worse women are being
raped in front of their own families. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and achieve the lifestyle all of us strive to live. This country gives them an opportunity of success, we
have offered funding to help them begin a new life and more importantly peace of mind knowing they
will not be attacked. We are all equal regardless our skin colour, gender or what we believe in. The
people that say not our country, not our problem is what I believe to be just plain ignorance. The
Syrians coming here are screened ensuring we know they are safe and willing to work. Streets covered
with bodies for pavement is no environment any human being should have to suffer in. I feel that the
people who believe that Syrians should not be welcomed here should really consider whether these
innocent people deserve the chance to share the privilege of living in

Why I Didn t Treat Women
There was a time in my life where I didn t treat women in the way they should have been treated. I use
to play games with their feelings and didn t care if they got hurt because I was only looking out for
myself. The reason I was like this was because I ve seen my older siblings get their heart broken, so I
made up in my mind that I would not have that happen to me. So whenever I would date a young lady
I would always have someone I was talking to on the side but I would lie to the person I was with
saying that I wasn t seeing no one but them. One instance I was dating this girl who I grew to like very
much to the point where I wasn t talking to no one but her. This was the very first time in my life
where I had really opened up to a girl and experienced what it was like to be in love. Then one day I
was out with my cousin and saw my girlfriend all hugged up on another guy. I was very hurt and
humiliated because my cousin was there to witness me get my heart broken. That moment in my life
taught me how those other young ladies who really liked me felt when I was treating them in that
manner. I would say that I m not the same person that I was a year ago. I m different because I no
longer have a young boy s mindset but yet I m growing daily and learning from the mistakes I ve
made in the past. Five years ago I was different because I was looking for ways to better myself as a
person. Ten years ago I was very big on trying to the very best cymbal twirler in my

The Importance Of Girl Scouting
How has Girl Scouting helped you develop courage, confidence, and character? (250)
When I started Girl Scouting as a Daisy, I saw myself as shy and young. While those descriptors were
accurate, I no longer use them. Girl Scouting taught me that I, like every girl in my troop, had the
potential to be more. Someone who does not understand girl scouting might not know the distinctions
between daisies and brownies, or Cadettes and seniors other than the difference in the color of the
uniforms. However, I distinctly remember the importance of the bridging ceremony when I became a
Brownie. It was significant to me because I had seen the example which other Brownies before me
had set and I was eager to leave the same impression on girls younger ... Show more content on

Even though the project was more difficult than I expected, the process was beneficial to both me and

team. However, being a leader of this team was challenging. I had intentionally made a team with a
diverse group of people who could offer insightful perspectives. However, I did not anticipate how
difficult it would be to loosen my grip on the creative control of the project. Before beginning the
construction of the kits, I had a clear vision for the majority of the kits. Even though it was
challenging for me to accept, this project taught me that being a leader is more than telling people
what to do; it is about bringing people and ideas together while maintaining structure and
organization. At the end of the day, I could not be happier with how the kits turned out since so many
people on my team had such fantastic ideas. Additionally, after I learned to trust the capabilities of the
people I was working with, I was able to be a better leader because I was in a position to make the
entire project more efficient by talking to my peers rather than at them. I am really excited about how
well my Girl Scout Gold Award has been received. The day that I brought the boxes into the school, I

Analysis Of Atonement By The Novel Atonement Essay
The novel Atonement tells the story of a woman desperately trying to make for her past mistakes. The
story starts off in the world war two period with the three main characters, Briony, Robbie and
Cecelia, as children and young adults. Robbie comes from the poor Turner Family, while Briony and
Cecilia are sisters in the powerful and wealthy Tallis Family. After observing a set of peculiar and
awkward encounters between Robbie and Cecilia, Briony wrongly assumes Robbie as an evil
character. After Paul, a rich sociopath invited to the dinner, rapes Lola, a cousin of the Tallises, Briony
immediately assumes that the culprit is none other than Robbie and publicly accuses him. Robbie is
sent off to prison, and then world war two to end his imprisonment. Robbie and Cecelia still stay in
touch through letters. Robbie bravely survives the war and returns home to Cecelia after several failed
attempts and encounters. Briony s apology attempts are shunned by the reunited couple as they live on
peacefully. However, the shock ending in the epilogue reveals that the whole narrative was authored
by Briony herself and not by an unknown narrator. She states that both of the couple died before ever
meeting each other after separation and feels responsible. The publishing of this story where their love
lasts in peace is simply Briony s way of achieving atonement. Much of the story and most of Briony s
guilt hinges on the deep, strong love between Robbie and Cecelia. However, their love is a

of the citizens of the United States. Eleanor is the niece of the former president Theodore Roosevelt.
She was born into wealthy New York family. Her father Elliott Roosevelt was a alcoholic and had a

Happiness in Aldous Huxley s Brave New World Essay
When we look to define happiness, many different ideas come to mind. Webster s New Collegiate
Dictionary uses three definitions for happiness: good fortune, a state of well being and contentment,
and a pleasurable satisfaction. In Brave New World, Aldus Huxley argues that a society can redefine
happiness through the government s manipulation of the environment and the human mind itself. The
government accomplishes this by mind conditioning throughout the process of maturing, keeping a
caste based society, and obliterating problems. The government thus defines happiness as the absence
of all conflict. This differs from happiness as the American society sees it: the ability to pursue and
enjoy individual desires.

For problems that nature creates, the society of Brave New World destroys them to keep pestering
insects and things of that sort from infringing on people s happiness.
It is evident that Bernard and Lenina shift their attitudes after they meet the savage, John. Bernard gets
a taste of power after bringing the savage home to London and becomes satisfied and happy as defined
by Brave New World, a complete turnaround from his previous, almost American ideals. Lenina finds
love and joy, as an American would define it after being content for so many years in the society of
Brave New World. Before he finds the savage, Bernard is unhappy with his surroundings,
With eyes for the most part downcast and, if ever they lighted on a fellow creature, at once and
furtively averted, Bernard hastened across the roof. He was like a man pursued, but pursued by
enemies he does not wish to see, lest they should seem more hostile even than he had supposed, and
he himself be made to feel guiltier and even more helplessly alone. (63)
However, after he discovers John, he becomes just as artificial as every other conditioned human: And
I had six girls last week, he confided to Helmholtz Watson. One on Monday, two on Tuesday, two
more on Friday, and one on Saturday. And if I d had the time or the inclination, there were at least a

Awake of the Civil War
In the wake of the Civil War, Congress acceded to pressure to have the federal government intercede
to secure African Americans rights. What were some of the long range effects of that government
posture?
The Union Victory in the Civil War in 1865 granted freedom to approximately 4 million slaves,
however, the process of rebuilding the South during the Reconstruction period 1865 1877 brought a
lot of challenges. In 1865 and 1866 under the supervision of President Andrew Johnson, new Southern
state legislatives passed the black codes to control the labor and behavior of former slaves and other
African Americans. During the Radical Reconstruction in 1869, new enfranchised blacks had a voice

Although freedom to become citizens took longer and the fight more difficult, a great number of
African Americans steadily gained various rights which accumulated over time. It is important to note
that racial segregations momentum dissipated over time as more and more blacks held positions of
authority and congressional approval overwhelmingly supported more rights for blacks. Nonetheless,
it is also imperative to consider how white supremacists such as the KKK fought to undo the
important developments. Till this day, both the executive legislative and judiciary wings of
government are constantly battling instances of racial segregation. However, the long range effects of
federal government struggle to secure equal rights for African Americans has been significant
successes in the rise of African American entrepreneurship. The proliferation of blacks in both
government and civil society, the rise of blacks in academia, sports and liberal arts are long effects of
the fight for African American rights. This has progressively opened up American society and in a
way, levelled the playing field. Also this federal government action to intervene in the affairs of the
state has lived on throughout the 21st century.

Romanticism In Romantic Poetry
Romantic Poetry Paper
As many of us know, the Romanticism period happen during the 1800 s hundreds and finished in the
mid 1850 s. This movement is an artistic enlightenment that happen throughout Europe. The people
who took an active big role during this movement is John Keats, Percy Shelley, William Wordsworth
and many more. Numerous of their poteries talks about nature, beauty, love, death etc. However, the
major poems that really stood out to me from these three substantial poets is; She Dwelt Among the
Untrodden Ways by William Wordsworth that signifies the beauties of imagination and death. Then,
ON THE GRASSHOPPER AND CRICKET by John Keats who elaborates the happiness of nature.
Finally, Mutability by Percy Shelley that symbolises the bodies and spirits. Therefore, these poems are
very meaningful and may apply to your everyday life.
To begin with, She Dwelt Among the Untrodden Ways is about a young lady being admired
comparing her beauty to nature. William Wordsworth says She dwelt among the untrodden ways
Beside the springs of Dove, . Wordsworth is trying to describe how gentle and innocent she is like
nature is. Also Wordsworth adds A violet by a mossy stone Half hidden from the eye! this quote I
believe show people tend to not notice her that much but in his eyes she is still very beautiful. Later on
in his poetry the young lady is identified as Lucy who may possibly be apart of his imagination that
soon dies in the end. Wordsworth states She

Examples Of Food And Nutrition In The Elizabethan Era
Foods and Nutritional Practices of the Elizabethan Era
By Davril B.
The Elizabethan Era was very ironic in terms of status and nutrition of the rich and poor as the rich
were known to have worse health than the poor and common people. Which asks the question, what
are the differences between the nutrition health, and table/food manners between the poor/common
people and rich? Since the rich has more money which leads to a bigger variety of selections and the
poor and common peoples did not, what are the reasons for this outcome? Just like today, food
mannerisms and culinary practices are still quite alike to the Elizabethan Era. For example, they
washed their hands thoroughly before eating and they ate 3 meals a day, breakfast in the early
morning, dinner/lunch at midday and supper during the evening. Just like how there are some
traditions where people eat fish on Fridays or Sundays, there was a law where fish had to be eaten on
Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. There wasn t a religion or tradition that was the reason to eating
fish on those days, it was solely for the reason of supporting the fishing companies and if a law is
broken the consequence would be up to 3 months in jail. Important manners of the rich were the
seating at a table, as they would be sitting in a U shaped formation where the people of the lowest
honor would sit at the bottom at the table and the higher honors would sit at the top. Their manners
were very alike to today as there

The Effects Of Antidepressant Pills On Teenagers And...
Jacqueline Mendez

AP English
9 February 2016
Teenagers and Antidepressants In recent discussions of antidepressant pills a controversial issue has
been whether doctors should prescribe antidepressants to teenagers. Antidepressant pills are prescribed
to
individuals who suffer from a condition called Major Depression Disorder, labeled MDD for
abbreviation. Major Depressive Disorder is a mental disorder characterized by a pervasive and
persistent low mood that is accompanied by low self esteem and by loss of interest or pleasure in
normally enjoyable activities. The objectives of antidepressant pills are to stabilize, and
normalize the abnormal low levels of brain chemicals for those who suffer from MDD. On the
other hand, some argue that antidepressants are harmful and do a disadvantage to teenagers,
therefore should not be prescribed to them. However, others argue that the pills are not harmful
and in some cases the strong need of antidepressants outweigh the risks the pills might provide.
Antidepressants prevent teenagers from recuperating on their own and prevents them from
learning how to cope with conflicts thus, they should not be prescribed.
Depression results in symptoms such as sadness, it affects a person s emotions and leads
to both emotional and physical problems. The antidepressant pills are meant to help the brain
recuperate and adjust to normality. The reason why people reconsider taking the pills in the first
place is

The Purpose Of The Athenian Army
Part 3
1) The Athenian Army
The purpose of the Athenian army was to was to secure Athenian democratic society. The army fought
battles against other Greek states and foreign states most often against oligarchies and aristocracies.
The army was managed by a polemarch (senior military title), along with ten generals from the ten
tribes of Athens.
The largest component of the army was the infantry composed of hoplites (citizens fighting in a full
set of armour). They went into battle protected by a helmet, breastplate, and greaves (shin guards),
carrying a large round shield and long spear. The state would sometimes issue such equipment to
citizens who could not afford a set of their own.
The Athenian army was primarily male citizens, who were made to enlist at the beginning of the year
following their 18th birthdays. For two years, new cadets (known as ephebes) trained full time. After
training, they rejoined public life, though they were committed to the army for 40 years. At any time,
they could be called to duty to defend Athens. The people elect two athletic trainers and instructors for
them, to teach them their drill as heavy armed soldiers and to use the bow, javelin, and sling.
Richer Athenians enrolled in the cavalry, as always, a smaller elite military force made up of those

Jimmy Santiago Baca Impact On Education
Jimmy Santiago Baca is a prime example of the impact that can be extracted from a strong and caring
passion towards an education. Baca was passionate in learning how to read when he was in prison, and
he eventually achieved that goal. With his passion fueling his career, Baca would go on to become a
poet, writer, and education activists for diverse classrooms. Baca is fueled by improving the
conditions of those who feel like they have hit rock bottom like he once was. Several books were
written from Baca s backstory in hopes that people would learn from his mistakes and lessons learned
within his lifetime. One of the subject areas that Baca has spent a good amount of his life promoting
and discussing is the importance of education. Baca wrote a collection of stories that showed his
experiences where people attempted to keep him down, but Baca s drive to continue to expand and
learn prevented him from staying down. This collection of stories is called Stories from the Edge, and
Baca decided to add something extra with this book. He decided to go into a classroom with diverse
students and he shared his stories from the book in greater detail. There were open discussions with
the students about how his stories related to the students lives. After the student group left, Baca met
with the teachers that aided with the student interaction, and they discussed the teaching methods that
fuel the students motivation to learn. Jimmy Baca clearly is passionate in aiding individuals

Cult Of Personality Poster Analysis Essay
How do the Cult of Personality posters demonstrate elements of Confucianism? Using the Cult of
Personality posters as propaganda, Mao depicted himself as a god like figure, but still made efforts to
sustain the crucial ruler subject relationship of Confucianism (Chinese Posters). Most of the images
include Mao smiling, along with some of his subjects smiling or celebrating. This associates the
socialist dictator with happiness in an attempt to form a deep emotional connection with him. Mao
uses Filial Piety united with this happiness to demonstrate a need for the respect of his subjects. For
example, in one poster, Mao is depicted next to naval soldiers, in which he is the focal point. The men

But, they are highlighted stronger in the effects of the event. After encouraging civilians that oppose
him to criticize him and speak out, many did. People in positions of influence, such as teachers,
denounced Mao and his ideologies (Boyle). This was a ruse in order to seek opposition, and weed
them out from the rest of the country, because in a year, Mao s secret police gathered 500,000 people
who spoke out of his favor (Saunders). Typically, when a dictator wants to remain in power, they will
attempt to dissolve the opposing party, or those who would vote for them. Through the Hundred
Flowers, people were eliminated or denounced for the sole reason that they spoke against their leader.
Mao took away from them what is thought to be one of the most highly valued right: the freedom of
speech. The socialist dictator admitted it as well, claiming, What should our policy be towards non
Marxist ideas? As far as unmistakable counter revolutionaries and saboteurs of the socialist cause are
concerned, the matter is easy, we simply deprive them of their freedom of speech, (Boyle). With the
people who oppose him silenced, he was likely to remain in power, using Hitler s and Stalin s

The Pros And Cons Of Competitive Gaming
Today, because of advanced technology a lot of things has changed. New things are invented. Mail

are some of the changes brought by technology. Have you ever thought these advancement of
technology can bring a new form of sport?
Competitive gaming, sometimes called as E Sports or Electronic sports by fans and spectators is a
form of sports where the primary aspects of the sport are facilitated by electronic systems (Hamari

Analysis Of Social Inequality In Battle Royal By Ralph...
Social inequality seems to be more common in places you will not expect. The story Battle Royal By
Ralph Ellison explains that a young boy grows up to learn the harsh reality of being an invisible man.
The author does this by putting the main character in the story, though situations that make him realize
that he is diminished from society. The meaning of the story is supported by the setting of where
different things take place throughout the story. Places such as the main ballroom played an important
role. The ring of where the battle royal took place between the classmates can also be looked at to see
how the narrator explains his point. Towards the end is when the main character presents his speech in
a harsh environment that forces him to push his boundaries. These three settings throughout the story
help the reader understand the meaning of the story that social inequality can make someone become
an invisible man. According to the story Battle Royal by Ralph Ellison, the settings differ between
different parts of the story. In the beginning when the passage states It was in the main ballroom of the
leading hotel... was told since I was to be there anyway, I might as well take part in the battle royal to
be fought by some of my schoolmates as part of the entertainment (Ellison 205). The main character
finds himself having no choice but to do what he was told without a say about whether he would want
to or not. This form of obedience of social class between the African American boy and white men
happens throughout the story. Ralph Elision continues to explain that the form of entertainment was to
watch the kids fight brutally in a bloodshed battle between African school boys. It all began when he
was invited into the hotel ballroom that he would begin being told what to do or what to say or act.
The way the room was set up, put a boxing ring in front of a row of chairs from all three sides.
Immediately after the main character arrives to the boxing ring is when he faces a new challenge that
he must overcome. This fight between classmates has him worried that he might not even get a chance
to give his speech. The author implies that the setting of the boxing ring can intimidate anybody if

Abstract
This investigation explores gentrification within the Trinity Spadina Ward of Toronto. The research
question of To what extent is gentrification present in the Liberty Village neighborhood of Toronto?
largely focuses on redevelopment, land use and population demographics. Based on the comparison of
four indicators between Ward 20 and the City of Toronto, it was hypothesised that gentrification is a
prominent agent of change in the Liberty Village neighborhood.

Gentrification has a positive effect on a community in the sense that it ameliorates the local economy.
In lower income neighborhoods, the expansion of businesses and creation of jobs is limited by the
deficiency of monetary flow. However, as wealthier residents relocate to the area and invest money in
the community, businesses develop. Overtime, this trend continues and results in economic
development as well as more jobs, which benefits the community. Secondly, the process of
gentrification typically results in a lower crime rate. This is because gentrification involves the
attainment of vacant properties in order to build new developments. Therefore there will be a decrease
in vacant properties which typically attract crime. Additionally, an increase in population results in an
increase in local government revenue from taxes which can be spent on law

Epistemological Position And A Qualitative Research Design
The approach of this study will take the epistemological position and a qualitative research design.
Humphries (2008) asserts that qualitative research focusses on the subjective and recognises that the
researcher will affect the data that is produced and therefore the outcome of the research. Denzin
Lincoln (2005:3) state that Qualitative researchers study things in their natural settings attempting to
make sense of, or to interpret, phenomena in terms of the meanings people bring to them .
Quantitative research on the other hand, claims to be objective, removing the researcher s views and
values from the study. While traditionally quantitative data has been deemed to produce more reliable
or valid data, it does not suffice to capture the complexities of the human experience as it assumes a
positivist epistemology.
This research has taken a narrative methodolgy as this approach recognises that realities are socially
constructed, and that human actions and agency are contingent on socio cultural, political and
historical influences (Gill and Goodson, 2011). Using in depth semi structured interviews will ensure
that trans people have the best opportunity to express their story and impart the information that they
feel is important to them. A structured interview approach would endanger the research in that the
questions would have to be chosen prior to data collection and therefore could reflect assumptions the
researcher had made and as the information shared is

Stonehaven Case Analysis Essay
Stonehaven, Inc.
Case Analysis
March 19, 2013
Part A
For this part of the analysis, consider each department in the Gdansk factory in isolation. Assume that
the rest of the production system has no impact on the department you are considering. Assume that
material handling times are negligible and ignore variability in processing times.
1. For the typical 100 pair batch, what is the daily capacity and manufacturing lead time within each
of the following departments?
a. Cutting
8 hrs/day x 60 min/hr = 480 min/day
Machine 1 = (0.05 x 4)(100) + (5.25 x 4) = 41 min/batch
Machine 2 = (0.05 x 4)(100) + (5.00 x 4) = 40 min/batch
Machine 3 = (0.04 x 4)(100) + (4.00 x 4) = 32 min/batch
Manufacturing Lead Time (MLT) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the time given is the time it takes to stamp 1 of the 4 components on one machine. Another
assumption I have made is the workers performing the stitching are all equally paced. It takes each
worker the exact same amount of time to perform their duties and pass the product along to the next
group.
Part B
Now consider the factory as a system, and take into account interactions between the departments.
3. Assuming production is done in 100 pair batches, what is the factory s daily capacity?
Cutting 41 min/batch
Stitching 133 min/batch
Lasting 33.2 min/batch
Capacity of the Factory = 480 min/day ÷ 133 min/batch = 3.6 batches/day
4. What is the total MLT for a 100 pair batch?
MLT
Cutting = 41 min/batch
Kitting = 10 min/batch
Stitching = 133 min/batch
Steaming = 6 hrs x 60 min = 360 min/batch
Lasting = 33.2 min/batch
TOTAL MLT = 577.2 min/batch
Part C
5. How would you go about deciding the appropriate batch size for the Stonehaven factory? What
factors would you consider? How do they interrelate? (You may wish to do some calculations, but
concentrate on thinking conceptually.)

The Importance of Harry Hoveden in Making History Essay
The Importance of Harry Hoveden in Making History
In making history, Brian Friel uses Hugh O Neill to define the characters in the play, and the way in
which his actions affect them gives the audience some characteristics to decide on the personality of
particular characters.
Harry Hoveden is obviously an important character in the play because he plays a major part in the
play, and appears in most of the major scenes. It is also clear that he is important to O Neill because he
is often the one person he turns to in times of crisis.
Harry is presented as a very loyal and sober character by, he serves to balance out some of the other
characters almost like a buffer. His calm nature in times of distress or excitement ... Show more

This calming and soothing effect also reflects on the audience because if he was not included, the play
would be a lot more negative and the audience would be more likely to feel insecure about the flow of
the play. His character contrasts so much with most of the other characters that it adds diversity to
making history. It makes some scenes more interesting because of the presence of this calm and
obviously intelligent character and his political soundness can mock characters like O Donnell. When
compared to characters like O Donnell
Harry is a very likeable character and appears as someone to be trusted and relied upon.
Brian Friel also uses him and his overwhelming loyalty towards O Neill to show a weakness in O
Neill s character. O Neill uses Harry to portray certain characters via contrast and particularly O Neill
by the way he treats Harry. It often appears that O Neill takes Harry for granted showing another side
to his character that can be thought of as weakness. Also the fact that whenever O Neill puts Harry
down he regrets it almost immediately shows that O Neill is insecure and sometimes does not think
before he speaks, so Brian Friel uses Harry to show a very important side to O Neill that could have
affected his judgment during the wars he fought and led.
Harry is also an expositional character, and Brian uses him to expose

Mini Paper 1
Fun Activities in the Workplace
Fun activities should be required in the work place. Statistics have shown that employees who are
involved in the company or by the company setting aside a day to show employees they are
appreciated, stress levels are reduced, employees are happier and better able to provide the degree of
customer service consumers come to expect. There are many types of fun days that a company can
explore using. These fun days can include friendly competition between employees. Prizes could
include a vacation for the employee who wins the competition.
One of the main benefits that occur when creating fun activities for employees is that it can improve

Most of the upper management staff is located on our downtown campus not on campuses frequented
by students. They are not exposed to the stressors that come with seeing students 5 days a week, 7.5
hours a day. Students come in upset, not necessarily with you, but with their financial situation or even
a personal situation, and take it out on you. You have to always maintain a professional demeanour
when dealing with them to avoid any confrontations. It is easy for a manager who sits in their office
all day to make suggestions on how they think things can be done better but those suggestions are
usually void. Working in the college environment, if you do not see the stresses, you cannot make
suggestions on how to make a campus or department run more smoothly.
BC does offer professional development days where we can attend workshops. Stress relief and time
management workshops are included. These do not alleviate the stressors we face on a daily basis or
allow us to be able to communicate our ideas for improvement to upper management. BC should
consider implementing a committee consisting of staff members from each campus to allow them to
discuss issues that arise and give suggestions on how to improve those issues. One problem with
working for BC is that most of the front line staff does not feel as though they are appreciated. Upper
management does not reward employees for a job well done. Many employees feel as though their
managers do not have

  • 2. Essay Political Unrest in Yemen, Terrorism, and America The U.S. has a tough stance when it comes to terrorism, especially in regions where terrorist groups look to take advantage of a people or a situation. In this paper I hope to answer questions pertaining to how the political unrest in Yemen began, how Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula were formed and what effects they have in the region as well as the implications to American policies and interests in the Horn of Africa area. Yemen is a poor and unstable state where the political and social problems are an issue that some groups will look to exploit while others have a vested interest in stability. An analysis of the past and present political, economic and social issues in Yemen reveals two major issues: The ability for terrorist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A civil war would ensue with the revolutionaries having the support of the Egyptians and the USSR and the royalist receiving support from Saudi Arabia and Jordan until the eventual defeat of the royalists in 1969. This would give way to a Republican government and the rise of current President of Yemen, Ali Abdullah Saleh in 1990. Britain controlled and occupied the south during the civil war in the north. In the 1960s the National Liberation Front (NLF) would fight the British and with Soviet influence, the southern portion of Yemen would become the first and only Marxist state in the Arab world winning independence in 1967. In 1990, the poor conditions and economic decay of the south would lead to a merger which would form what we know today as The Republic of Yemen. The former leaders in the south would find their way north in order to play a role in the newly formed government, but the current President Saleh, who would retain his position in the newly formed state, would consistently overlook them. The lack of representation and the steady decline of living conditions in southern Yemen would reach a boiling point, and, in 1994 another civil war would be fought on Yemen soil, only this time the battle was amongst the Yemeni people. Infuriated about differences over power sharing and the relative pace of integration, southern Yemen would call for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Comparing Jane Austen s Sense And Sensibility Jane Austen was a fabulous and accomplished writer, and Emma Thompson is a enjoyable screenwriter; but when one watches or reads their works, it is natural as humans to ask questions. Sometimes the questions can be answered by reviewing the sources, whether it be a movie or a book, with more attention and purpose, but that is not always the case. There can never be complete certainty when assuming the thoughts of others; Jane Austen may have just added in Margaret Dashwood to Sense and Sensibility because she felt like having a third character, and now in our present day, highschoolers are running around inventing dramatic and unique causes for this individual s existence. Nevertheless, I will attempt to answer two questions accurately in this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the 1995 film version of Sense and Sensibility, a major part of volume III is removed. Willoughby s entire apology and Elinor s subsequent feelings are simply passed off; Marianne falls ill, Mrs. Dashwood arrives, and Marianne miraculously returns to health. My first time watching this movie left me confused, as an entire chapter consisting of nearly fifty five hundred words was not there. Not only that, but the chapter provided clear remorse from Willoughby; while he still values money over love, he is penitent of some of the damage his poor choices inflicted, and he goes to apologize even when there is no need to. The big screen version instead shows Willoughby at the wedding of Marianne and Colonel Brandon, staring regretfully from afar. The first explanation that comes to mind would be for the sake of time. While the 1995 adaptation of Sense and Sensibility is two hours and twenty minutes, a miniseries consisting of three sixty minute episodes was released in 2008. The latter contains Willoughby s apology, while the former has no mention. While the miniseries had the room to smoothly explain such a story, the film could not add in the plea without it appearing to be shoehorned in. Furthermore, the second cause for nixing the scene would be to make Willoughby even more of a wicked libertine. Even when a girl he professed to love lay deathly ill, he did even pay a visit! Surely there is no justification for that, lest one say work is more important that human life. This move cemented the audience s hatred of Willoughby, and when he appeared the final time on screen, there was only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Over nine years of follow up, among more than three hundred thousand people in Japan suggest that green tea consumption was inversely associated with the incidence of liver cancer [86]. Moreover, GT showed its efficacy as a potential activator of other anticancer drug also. Green tea catechin augmened the antitumor activity of doxorubicin induced mouse model for chemo resistant liver cancer [87]. Inhibition of green tea catechins against the growth of cancerous human colon and hepatic epithelial cells are also reported [92]. N Nitrosobis (2 oxopropyl)amine and/or oxidized soybean oil are demonstrated to increase the oxidative DNA damage of hamster pancreas and liver and production of 8 oxodG. And this was suppressed by the green tea supplementation. This wok suggests that GTC might have the beneficial effect on important organ [93]. Induction of mutagenesis in rodents by 4 (methylnitrosamino) 1 (3 pyridyl) 1 butanone 4 (methylnitrosamino) 1 (3 pyridyl) 1 butanone and N nitrosonornicotine is demonstrated in liver tissues of rodents. But, green tea significantly reduced mutagenesis by approximately 15 50% in liver, lung, pooled oral tissue and esophagus in this study [94]. Another finding suggests that green tea might act as an anti promoter against pentachlorophenol PCP induced mouse hepatocarcinogenesis via its ability to prevent down regulation of gap junctional intercellular communication GJIC (Fig 4) [95]. Report suggests that GTE is a possible chemopreventive agent for nitrosamine initiated hepatocarcinogenesis, but not with a choline deficient diet. This suggests that essential nutrient and micronutrient exert its obvious involvement in the metabolic processes [96]. So, suggestion can be made that GTE with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Middle Childhood Essay examples Middle childhood is defined a number of ways, but perhaps best defined as the ages 6 to 12 years of age or prepubescent to pubescence Middle childhood is a challenging time and a major challenge is social constructs, as this is the earliest time when children begin to move away from parental influences and establish more meaningful peer and other adult relationships. It signifies a new set of social contacts with adults and other children as well as a wider variety of settings than those that characterize early childhood. This methodology encompasses examining the child s life through many different contexts, such as: demography, history, sociology, biology, developmental psychology, and economics. ( w. website ) The Life Course Perspective takes the combination of the historical and social factors and sees them in an individual s course of personal development. A life course is defined as a sequence of socially defined events and roles that the individual enacts over time. ( W. website ) The theory loosely follows the sage old adage, To know where you re going, you have to know where you have been. More precisely, the theory explains that the roles, events or transitions in an individual s life don t naturally progress in a structures order, but instead but create the sum of one s life experience. (website) Transitions play an important role in the life experience. Transitions are considered by the Life Course Perspective to be changes in roles and statuses that represent a distinct departure from prior roles and statuses. (page 14) They can affect a child in a myriad of ways: both positively and negatively and many center on the experience the child has in the family construct. The way that the child moves through these transitions can define their life trajectory and the choices later in life. • 6. Analysis Of I m Ridiculous The next afternoon, as promised, Joan returned to Perceval s chambers for a visit. Unfortunately, no matter how hard she willed away the thoughts, she couldn t stop herself from thinking about Perceval s head buried between her legs, or her mouth working his erection. Her heart pounded just imagining it and her face felt warm. In the past, she might have thought such acts were a little scary or overwhelming. But imagining engaging in such activities with Perceval was more exciting than anything else. Still, there was a time and place to have such thoughts, and now was not the time. I m ridiculous, Joan admonished herself under her breath as she neared the castle. Pull yourself together, Joan. She approached the guard and went through the same process as the day before: announcing herself to the guard, declaring she had no weapons, and stating her business. Joan was then permitted entry. As she ascended the tower stairs, she had a wild idea: What would Perceval do if I pushed him into the bed and unlaced his trousers like Carina did to Sir Michael, and then... She shook off the images as she knocked on Perceval s chamber door and did her best to not think of cucumbers. Come, said Perceval, answering her knock. Terrible word choice! Joan thought. She pushed open the heavy wooden door and entered. Today, Perceval wore his tunic and he sat at the dining table reading a book. • 7. Accomplishments Of Albert Einstein years first in trying to prove that the quantum theory had inconsistencies in it. No one could have been more ingenious in thinking up unexpected and clever examples; but it turned out that the inconsistencies were not there; and often their resolution could be found in earlier work of Einstein himself. When that did not work, after repeated efforts, Einstein had simply to say that he did not like the theory. He did not like the elements of indeterminacy. He did not like the abandonment of continuity or of causality. (Oppenheimer, Robert) He summed up his scientific career by saying The real goal of my research has always been the simplification of and unification of the systems of theoretical physics ( Einstein). Einstein did not like to conform to the ideas of others and so was always different and alone in his thoughts. His scientific work has allowed for a much broader understanding of how the world works and made some very useful inventions possible. Albert Einstein s scientific theories accelerated the development of the world like never before and he gave scientists the tools to mold almost every observable aspect of life as we live today. • 10. Why I Didn t Treat Women There was a time in my life where I didn t treat women in the way they should have been treated. I use to play games with their feelings and didn t care if they got hurt because I was only looking out for myself. The reason I was like this was because I ve seen my older siblings get their heart broken, so I made up in my mind that I would not have that happen to me. So whenever I would date a young lady I would always have someone I was talking to on the side but I would lie to the person I was with saying that I wasn t seeing no one but them. One instance I was dating this girl who I grew to like very much to the point where I wasn t talking to no one but her. This was the very first time in my life where I had really opened up to a girl and experienced what it was like to be in love. Then one day I was out with my cousin and saw my girlfriend all hugged up on another guy. I was very hurt and humiliated because my cousin was there to witness me get my heart broken. That moment in my life taught me how those other young ladies who really liked me felt when I was treating them in that manner. I would say that I m not the same person that I was a year ago. I m different because I no longer have a young boy s mindset but yet I m growing daily and learning from the mistakes I ve made in the past. While those descriptors were accurate, I no longer use them. Girl Scouting taught me that I, like every girl in my troop, had the potential to be more. Someone who does not understand girl scouting might not know the distinctions between daisies and brownies, or Cadettes and seniors other than the difference in the color of the uniforms. • 12. Analysis Of Atonement By The Novel Atonement Essay The novel Atonement tells the story of a woman desperately trying to make for her past mistakes. The story starts off in the world war two period with the three main characters, Briony, Robbie and Cecelia, as children and young adults. Robbie comes from the poor Turner Family, while Briony and Cecilia are sisters in the powerful and wealthy Tallis Family. After observing a set of peculiar and awkward encounters between Robbie and Cecilia, Briony wrongly assumes Robbie as an evil character. After Paul, a rich sociopath invited to the dinner, rapes Lola, a cousin of the Tallises, Briony immediately assumes that the culprit is none other than Robbie and publicly accuses him. Robbie is sent off to prison, and then world war two to end his imprisonment. Robbie and Cecelia still stay in touch through letters. Robbie bravely survives the war and returns home to Cecelia after several failed attempts and encounters. Briony s apology attempts are shunned by the reunited couple as they live on peacefully. However, the shock ending in the epilogue reveals that the whole narrative was authored by Briony herself and not by an unknown narrator. She states that both of the couple died before ever meeting each other after separation and feels responsible. The publishing of this story where their love lasts in peace is simply Briony s way of achieving atonement. Much of the story and most of Briony s guilt hinges on the deep, strong love between Robbie and Cecelia. However, their love is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Webster s New Collegiate Dictionary uses three definitions for happiness: good fortune, a state of well being and contentment, and a pleasurable satisfaction. In Brave New World, Aldus Huxley argues that a society can redefine happiness through the government s manipulation of the environment and the human mind itself. The government thus defines happiness as the absence of all conflict. This differs from happiness as the American society sees it: the ability to pursue and enjoy individual desires. The ... The Elizabethan Era was very ironic in terms of status and nutrition of the rich and poor as the rich were known to have worse health than the poor and common people. Which asks the question, what are the differences between the nutrition health, and table/food manners between the poor/common people and rich? Since the rich has more money which leads to a bigger variety of selections and the poor and common peoples did not, what are the reasons for this outcome? Just like today, food mannerisms and culinary practices are still quite alike to the Elizabethan Era. For example, they washed their hands thoroughly before eating and they ate 3 meals a day, breakfast in the early morning, dinner/lunch at midday and supper during the evening. Just like how there are some traditions where people eat fish on Fridays or Sundays, there was a law where fish had to be eaten on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. There wasn t a religion or tradition that was the reason to eating fish on those days, it was solely for the reason of supporting the fishing companies and if a law is broken the consequence would be up to 3 months in jail. Major Depressive Disorder is a mental disorder characterized by a pervasive and persistent low mood that is accompanied by low self esteem and by loss of interest or pleasure in normally enjoyable activities. The objectives of antidepressant pills are to stabilize, and normalize the abnormal low levels of brain chemicals for those who suffer from MDD. On the other hand, some argue that antidepressants are harmful and do a disadvantage to teenagers, therefore should not be prescribed to them. However, others argue that the pills are not harmful and in some cases the strong need of antidepressants outweigh the risks the pills might provide. Antidepressants prevent teenagers from recuperating on their own and prevents them from learning how to cope with conflicts thus, they should not be prescribed. Depression results in symptoms such as sadness, it affects a person s emotions and leads to both emotional and physical problems. • 34. Epistemological Position And A Qualitative Research Design The approach of this study will take the epistemological position and a qualitative research design. Humphries (2008) asserts that qualitative research focusses on the subjective and recognises that the researcher will affect the data that is produced and therefore the outcome of the research. Denzin Lincoln (2005:3) state that Qualitative researchers study things in their natural settings attempting to make sense of, or to interpret, phenomena in terms of the meanings people bring to them . Quantitative research on the other hand, claims to be objective, removing the researcher s views and values from the study. While traditionally quantitative data has been deemed to produce more reliable or valid data, it does not suffice to capture the complexities of the human experience as it assumes a positivist epistemology. This research has taken a narrative methodolgy as this approach recognises that realities are socially constructed, and that human actions and agency are contingent on socio cultural, political and historical influences (Gill and Goodson, 2011). Using in depth semi structured interviews will ensure that trans people have the best opportunity to express their story and impart the information that they feel is important to them. A structured interview approach would endanger the research in that the questions would have to be chosen prior to data collection and therefore could reflect assumptions the researcher had made and as the information shared is ... The Importance of Harry Hoveden in Making History Essay The Importance of Harry Hoveden in Making History In making history, Brian Friel uses Hugh O Neill to define the characters in the play, and the way in which his actions affect them gives the audience some characteristics to decide on the personality of particular characters. Harry Hoveden is obviously an important character in the play because he plays a major part in the play, and appears in most of the major scenes. It is also clear that he is important to O Neill because he is often the one person he turns to in times of crisis. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This calming and soothing effect also reflects on the audience because if he was not included, the play would be a lot more negative and the audience would be more likely to feel insecure about the flow of the play. His character contrasts so much with most of the other characters that it adds diversity to making history. It makes some scenes more interesting because of the presence of this calm and obviously intelligent character and his political soundness can mock characters like O Donnell. When compared to characters like O Donnell Harry is a very likeable character and appears as someone to be trusted and relied upon. Brian Friel also uses him and his overwhelming loyalty towards O Neill to show a weakness in O Neill s character. O Neill uses Harry to portray certain characters via contrast and particularly O Neill by the way he treats Harry. It often appears that O Neill takes Harry for granted showing another side to his character that can be thought of as weakness. Also the fact that whenever O Neill puts Harry down he regrets it almost immediately shows that O Neill is insecure and sometimes does not think before he speaks, so Brian Friel uses Harry to show a very important side to O Neill that could have affected his judgment during the wars he fought and led.
