A Cold, Brittle Wind Blew The Front Door Open
The chill of a cold, brittle wind blew the front door open just as the two gentlemen and
gentlewoman approached the front walk. The men were all of a leisurely persuasion and the
young lady was a stray sort even after all this time. Time had cut through the hardness and
briskness of their demeanor. This was a grand occasion as they had been invited to dine with one
of their colleagues. The home was legend in their world and was owned by a one Nathaniel
Hawthorne, a prolific author. Hawthorne gave The Wayside the name by which it is still known.
The Wayside built in 1714 is a typical New England two story wood frame house, in Concord,
Massachusetts. Before Hawthorne bought it, the house belonged to the Alcott family, who names it
Hillside. Here, Louisa May Alcottand her sisters lived much of their childhood described in Little
Women. With that much literary history in the home, it was the perfect place to hold a dinner party.
Mr. E. A Poe, his proud and beautiful head erect, his dark eyes flashing with the elective light of
feeling and of thought, a peculiar, an inimitable blending of sweetness and hauteur in his
expression and manner, greeted his guests into the front parlor as they waited for the dinner to
commence. The gentlemen were attired in a black frockcoat with a shite shirts and black cravats,
tied somewhat loosely. There were a certain cool, stale smell about the room but this did not seem
to discern the guests. As they glided into the front room a single card

Essay On Single American Food
Diet is a huge concern for many people today who are either trying to control a preventable
disease or those people who are trying to lose the excess weight that they are carrying around
with them. Not only has our diet as Americans been steadily getting worse but as our population
has risen there have been very few attempts to counter the negative effects that over processing
our food has done. Every Single American, who has eaten the hot lunches at school remembers
and has a first hand knowledge of the taste of preservatives and manufactured flavor of the food
they ate during their formative years attending Elementary through High School. To get an
understanding of our diet we need to see the what has been in front of our faces for generations.
In fact at least 2 generations. The only generation in its entirety to to not see food that was
processed and packaged for shelf life was that of our greatest generation... those people who
fought and won World War II. Many of them were exposed to it during their time in the Military
but up until then had probably grown most of their food themselves or, at the very least, had
access to fresh, food sans preservatives. What was it about that time frame that has now caused the
greatest lack of basic constituents that food has ever known? I will cover that in another article.

This doesn t mean that I advocate vegetarianism or veganism as that is a specific choice with it s
own dietary needs and choices. However essential oils are a good way for vegetarians and
vegans to supplement what they are lacking in their diets unless they grow all their food
themselves, but I digress. Essential oils are part of the Alternative Medicine category but are
becoming more and more relevant in Conventional Medicine as scientists are realizing the
importance of these very basic substances because of their wide variety of

Secondary And Tertiary Levels Of Care
Secondary and tertiary levels of care both provide more specialised, regionalised care for
patients in the health system, the lines between which are often blurred, but still present key
distinctions. Secondary care is specialised clinical care for problems more complex than those
requiring primary care. Secondary care has a finer scope of specialisation than primary care,
with this narrowing of specialisation continuing up the health care levels (Health Evidence
Network, 2004). Secondary care therefore includes physicians who operate in the scope of a
specialty, such as general surgeons, internists and neurologists (Bodenheimer Grumbach, 2009).
Secondary care is most commonly provided in the context of a hospital setting, or a community
office of the specialist. Whilst tertiary care provides care for more complex illnesses as well, it
instead focuses on subspecialties. Tertiary care providers work at the apex of their specialties,
servicing a far greater proportion of the population compared to the other health care levels, as
their services are so highly focused (Bodenheimer Grumbach, 2009). As tertiary care is the
uppermost level of care in a typical system, it is generally provided at a select number of hospitals
or specialist tertiary centers. Examples of tertiary care providers include cardiac surgeons; specialist
burns units, and immunologists, who may concentrate on rare illnesses (Bodenheimer Grumbach,
2009). Questions three and four: Describe how patients

Abstract
Here we report the fabrication of a flexible all carbon field effect transistor (FET) using a low cost,
recyclable and biodegradable cellulose paper as both substrate as well as dielectric and pencil
graphite as source, drain, channel and gate without using any other expensive, toxic or non
biodegradable materials. The electron and hole mobility s of FET are observed to be 180 and
200 cm2v 1s 1 respectively which are comparable to the recently reported values of paper FET
with polymer dielectric and cellulose composite dielectrics. The FET was utilized as a strain
sensor which shows good sensitivity for low strains of both tensile and compressive type. The
mobility of the FET increases with increase in compressive strain and decreases with increase in
tensile strain. The sensitivity of the FET sensor increases with the increase in the gate voltage.
HERE YOU CAN MAKE A COMMENT ON HOW THIS STRAIN SENSOR IS BETTER THAN
SILICON STRAIN SENSORS IN PERFORMANCE.
Further we investigated the performance of the sensor by integrating it with hand gloves to detect
human motion. The results obtained indicate that the sensor can be utilized

Rugby Energy System
It is of common knowledge that there proves to be a significant difference in what it takes
physiologically speaking when comparing athletes of different sporting backgrounds to one
another. Why is a marathon runner not as powerful as a rugby player or why can t a 400m sprinter
run a marathon? Simple, each athlete is more equipped to three different energy systems. As a
sporting coach it is universal to have an understanding of the three main energy systems that
underpins the study of exercise and the effect it has on the human body in regards to athletic
performance. In order to recognize the role in which different energy systems play in athletic
performance, an understanding will need to be gained. For this reasons this report is broken... Show

Essay about Narrative- Water Slide Experience
Narrative Water Slide Experience
I was so excited. I could hardly breathe through the hour drive it took to get there. I was squished
between my two ten year old best friends in the back seat of a white Saturn, but I didn t care. I was
practicing over and over in my head what I was going to say to all the smart alecky adults who
would tell me I was too young to ride the water slides. I was simply going to reply, Actually I m ten,
going on eleven.
On the right of me sat the girl I met in preschool, the swimmer who was named after a state like
me: Tennessee. She was the observant artist. She sat there holding a deck of cards, trying to find
all the queens. I could tell she was nervous. Her hands were sweating. The cards were damp ...

We are all exact triposites, if there s any such thing.
I was so nervous and excited at the same time that I practically leaped out of the car with my Gap
backpack and my Wal Mart towel flying behind me. I could hear the screaming and crying of
children.
After we went through the long line to pay and put on a whole tube of sunscreen, we were ready
to have some real fun. We wandered around trying to find the perfect ride.
Tennessee and I had decided on the water gym when Anna suddenly stopped short. She pointed
way up in the air. Our eyes slowly followed her finger. Through our ten year old eyes we saw what
looked like the scariest ride in the entire world. It was a 50 foot tall, sky blue slide that went
straight down into a giant pool of deep dark water.
Anna looked around and smiled. Her short brown hair jumped and fell each time she took a long
stride. Her brown eyes twinkled as she walked to the slide. She seemed so proud about being
brave and daring to walk up to The Death Slide. Tennessee and I felt embarrassed that a girl six
months younger than we were was going to ride it while we were going to play on the water gym.
But Tennessee and I had a plan to cover up our embarrassment. We were going to act like we were
going to ride The Death Slide, and then, at the last minute, say we forgot something and wait at the
bottom for Anna.
As we stood in line, slowly approaching the 50 foot ladder I tried to gather up my strength and

BMW AN EMOTIONAL BRAND
The automobile industry has grown to be a very dynamic one in the recent years. Even though the
essential use of this industry has been to satisfy the customer s need to travel from one place to
another in comfort, the constantly changing market, has slowly changed customer s needs into
wants paving way for high competition in the automobile arena. This essay gives a brief analysis
on BMW, one of the leading brands in the industry and how they effectively use marketing as a tool
to achieve the status they enjoy now. Even though BMW produces various automobiles including
motorbikes and are into financial service sector, this essay will look into only the cars produced by
the BMW.

BMW s chief competitors are Mercedes Benz, GM, Toyota, and Ford. There are more companies
coming into the automobile industry with the same quality but cheaper price range. That s when
BMW, launched a new 7 series of cars which is more stylish and fashion orientated than their main
value of performance. This was a highly calculated risk that BMW took as this strategy deviated
highly from their core values and they faced the risk of losing the loyal customer base who believed
in the tagline promoting BMW as the ultimate driving machine. When conducting a feedback from
the customers in US, they found that almost 75% 5 were not interested in buying the product.
Although, the new look might threaten to alienate its current customer base, it has not had any
damaging impact on the company s sales. It is still the number one car brand in the European
market with a sales increase of 2.2% 8 in its home country in 2006 and almost 7%8 sales growth in
the US market in 2007.
The BMW group has always been highly market driven and have been aggressive marketers of their
product. They are dynamic in their promotion and innovative and are initiators in their field. By
analysing their marketing mix, it will be possible to understand their current strategies and why
BMW is still the market leaders in the automobile industry.

Night By Elie Wiesel Tabula Rasa Quotes
Tabula Rasa is the epistemological belief that people are born as a clean slate. Therefore, all
knowledge one has, is acquired. This includes the decision of right or wrong. If one is raised
correctly and decides to make the right choices in life, they should have privileges. It is possible
for human rights to be actualized for every person willing to live by them. First, criminals or
people who hurt others on purpose shouldn t expect to receive human rights. In the novel, Night
by Elie Wiesel, the author retells stories of when he was a victim of the holocaust. In this book, he
tells a story of a Jewish woman screaming that she saw a fire whilst on a train to the concentration
camps. The other passengers were getting annoyed, so they tried to stop the woman.... Show more

Look at the flames! Flames everywhere.... Once again, the young men bound and gagged her.
When they actually struck her, people shouted their approval...she received several blows to the
head, blows that could have been lethal (Wiesel 26). This passage recalls the account of how a
group of men harmed a woman of their own community. These men shouldn t expect to receive
human rights after they harmed a poor woman that they thought was mentally ill. They took
away her rights, therefore the possibility of rights for them is out of the picture. In addition, to
Elie s book, he also gave a speech, Perils of Indifference, to express his views of indifference and
how it affects our society. He mentions, These failures have cast a dark shadow over humanity:
two world wars, countless civil wars, the senseless chain of assassinations...blood baths in
Cambodia and Algeria, India and Pakistan, Ireland and Rwanda, Eritrea and Ethiopia, Sarajevo and

Teaching Style Of The Instructor
Each teacher is different no matter what the course subject is. When I find myself in a new
class with a new professor I seem to notice the little details that make up the teaching style of the
instructor. In total I have four classes all of which are part of Chattahoochee technical College.
Two of those classes take place at the Paulding Campus and the other two take place at the North
Metro campus. I take my American Government class at the North Metro Campus every
Tuesdays and Thursdays. Every Monday and Wednesday I go to the Paulding Campus to take
College Algebra. These two professors differ in more ways than just the subject of their course.
My American government teacher is pretty cool. He has a very fun way of teaching. By
cracking jokes and making cheesy remarks on every chapter, he always succeeds at making his
class an interesting one. Every lecture does not even seem like one. I always look forward to
sitting in the front of his class ready to learn everything. However, my college algebra professor
is, with all due respect, a more old schooled instructor. He does crack a few jokes from time to
time but he s mostly serious. He is very focused because in math one flaw, no matter how small,
can cause the answer to be wrong. His way of teaching is quite interesting as well; not only does
he teach the class the easiest way to solve a problem, he also teaches the class the harder way.
Every student is different so the line between the easy way and the hard way

Electric Sheep Androids
First published in 1968, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, by Philip K. Dick, still manages
to find relevance in today s reality. Much of that is due to the fascination of androids in the
modern world s pop culture, and how the concept raises debate and speculation on what is
considered human, or equal to humans in consciousness. More recently, Dick s idea of humanity
and what it means for the androids, has had a resurgence in the popular television show Westworld
, and shows no sign of slowing down. The central debate for the question at hand seems to be: what
makes something human or not human? As much as Dick attempts to undo the barrier that
separates android from proper human by making the barrier unclear, there is still a definite... Show

Evidence for this starts to pop up all over the text. This juncture appears in a scene in which two
bounty hunters are looking at the painting entitled, The Scream , by Edvard Munch. Phil says I
think that this is how an andy must feel (Dick 121). This clearly resonates with Deckard as much
as it does with Phil, because the remainder of the novel we seem to feel his discomfort in retiring
androids. He asks seconds after killing Luba, Do you think androids have souls? (Dick 125).
With all of these blurred lines, one can assume that there s a shortcoming of some sort of spark in
an android that would make them equal to humans. Whether it s their lack of connection to
animals, their void of empathy towards living beings and even each other, or even Dick s paucity
of explanation as to why some of these lines are blurred, it widens the rift between human and
android. If Philip intended this vague differentiation of human and android, it works against him
this case, and has instead emphasized our differences in more

Listeriosis is a life threatening infection which is caused by eating food that has been
contaminated with the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes . This bacterium is most commonly found
in dirt, water, and plants. The people that are most likely to contract this infection are high risk
populations; such as elderly people, pregnant women, young children, and people with
compromised immune systems. It is estimated that 1,600 people become infected with listeriosis
every year, and about 260 people die from the infection, which means 1 in 5 infected can die. A
few of the symptoms are fever, muscle aches, nausea, and sometimes death. The contamination of

Theme Of Weather In Catcher In The Rye
We wake up everyday to different weather, either good or bad, however our emotions are
depended upon it. One September day arose, rain was falling and so were my emotions. I felt sad
for no reason, I should have felt happy because it was Saturday, but no matter what happened, I was
down. In the Catcher in the Rye, J.D. Salinger uses weatherto exploit emotion. As rain approaches
many people start to feel depressed, but also content. Holden explains why he believes people
are crazy for leaving the cemetery just because of the rain. He starts to talk about what the
scenery looks like, and how he feels. Holden states It rained on his lousy tombstone, and it rained
on the grass on his stomach. All the visitors that were visiting the cemetery started running like
hell over their cars. That s what really drove me crazy (172). Holden becomes sad as he sees
everyone leave just because of the rain, he feels depressed that people would just leave their
loved ones alone. Holden s emotions are depressing, but he will also show a sign of joy due to
the weather. Holden changes to a happy state of mind as he sees the many parents hide under the
carousel for cover. He talks about feeling happy as he views Phoebe going around and around on
the carousel. He states It began to rain like a bastard. All the parents and mothers and everybody
went over and stood right under the roof of the carousel. I felt so damn happy all of the sudden,
the way Phoebe was going around and around and around (233). Holden will not let the rain
change her happiness, he consumes happiness and feels like he may cry. Overall, rain has
played a key role in showing emotion, but the snow seems to take a different turn on things.
Salinger shows that the cold can pick up emotions to make people feel despondent and lonely.
Holden describes a time in the city when he felt like he had vanished from life. He talks about
crossing the road, but then everytime he would cross he would feel gone. He projects It was kind
of a crazy afternoon, terrifically cold, and no sunout or anything, you would feel like you were
disappearing every time you crossed a road (8). When Holden says he feels like he is disappearing,
he is saying that his emotion is lonely and

The secretary of defense, who heads the Department of Defense, comes second in power over
the military. The first and most important job of the secretary of defense is to keep the country
protected from terrorist attacks. We often take for granted the security of our nation, but there
are people working around the clock in order to keep the country safe. Next, the department of
defense also locates and punishes any terrorists who attack which is a difficult and dangerous
task. As the secretary of defense, it is his or her duty to ensure that each branch in the United
States military is well trained and prepared for any obstacle that they may face whether it be
planned or unforeseen. The secretary of defense also ensures that these men and women in the
armed forces are well equipped to do their jobs (Ruffin). There seems to be a high failure rate
among those who have served as the secretary of defense. Are these secretaries actually failing at
their job, or are they reaching toward the impossible goal of trying to keep each and every
American citizen safe from terrorist attacks on our nation? Many of these secretaries are let go
by the president due to a lack of confidence in them (Stevenson). The ideal secretary of defense
would need to be skilled in politics, leadership, relationships, and many other areas, but someone
who is exceptional in all areas would be nearly impossible to find. Because perfecting the position
as secretary of defense is nearly impossible since the safety of the entire nation is in their hands, we
often see this resulting in disappointment toward the

BACKGROUND OF THE PROBLEM One of the main issues that we have right now is getting
the right vitamins and nutrients to our body. How we will do this is by choosing the food that
we eat. Aside from that, we have to take consideration its cost. Can Filipino, in all walks of life,
afford a healthy meal? More Filipinos have been eating rice just to withstand empty stomach
rather than eating a balanced meal with the right amount of calories and protein. Survey also says
that eating protein and vegetables have gone down the sink since, most of the families can t afford

A leader is most effective when this communication has respect, and trust. There is one criticism of
this theory based on fairness. Because of the dynamics of in and out groups, all group members
won t receive the same attention from the leader.
One of those ways is situational leadership, a theory first proposed by Paul Hersey and Ken
Blanchard in the Training and Development Journal in 1969. They viewed traditional leadership
as one side no longer fits every situation. Situational leadership his was designed to address the
dilemma of matching managers to proper job based on maturity and leadership skills. Blanchard
and Hersey theorized that various situations called for different types of leadership. In order to be
successful, a leader has to be able to adapt to those different situations (Northouse, p.99). Situational
leadership has four leadership styles that help influence the subordinates. A leaders decisions are
based on the ability and motivation of his or her subordinates, ranging from highly motivated and hi
skill to low motivation and low skill. The graph below demonstrates this.
None of the styles is considered to be optimal. In order for leaders to be effective, they must be
able to adapt and be flexible depending on each situation that arrises.
Situational leadership has several strengths and weaknesses.

Norman Bates: Two Lives Within A Soul
Sigmund Freud s Psychoanalytic Theory of Personality Development states that there is a structural

In Psychoanalytic Stage of Development, there are five stages: Oral, Anal, Phallic, Latency, and
Genital. Even though Sigmund Freud never was writing about the movie _Psycho_, theories of

As Norman grew up, he never had the chance to explore his sexual desires with other people.
Norman s behavior can be further analyzed by using Freud s theory of Infantile Sexuality. In his
theory of Infantile Sexuality, Freud explains that a child has sexual instincts. Sigmund Freud s
theory describes the ideas and emotions which exist within the unconscious mind of children
concerning their desire to possess their mothers sexually and eliminate the threat of their fathers
who they competed with for the attention of their mothers. Norman s problem is he is stuck in the
Phallic Stage. The Phallic Stage is the third stage of child development, occurring between the year
of 3 and 6. Between this time, Norman must have been abandoned by his mother. Her lover must
have been envied by Norman because all he wants is his mother s love and attention. He felt that
the other man was a threat to the relationship Norman and his mother had. After feeling abandoned
by his mother, Norman s Oedipus complex forced him to have a fight with his mother s lover,
which eventually made him to murder the two of them after finding them in bed together . For
Freud, most repressed memories relate to sexuality. However, the killings don t stop with the
mother and her partner. Norman continues to kill women who come to the motel that he finds
attractive.

How Does Self Discrepancy Of Media Influenced Body Image...
Section A: Project Details
Title: How does self discrepancy of media influenced body image affect adolescents self esteem?
Abstract: Research has shown that exposure to thin ideal media is related to body dissatisfaction.
Consequently, the accumulated dissatisfying emotions regarding one s body can evolve into
distorted body perception. Such disturbed body image has been evident as associated with low self
esteem. Nonetheless, little research has sought to elucidate the rationales for these perplexed
psychological relationships. With a few previous research touched on the self discrepancy theory
vis Г vis understanding body image dysfunctions, thus it is proposed that thin ideal media
exposure facilitates the reconstruction of media audience s self ideal body image; it hence
activates the body image self assessment and results in self discrepancies and are prone to lower
self esteem. This study is in correlational design conducted in college classrooms. It contains two
phases with thin ideal media exposure in between. Different empirically well validated scales and
questionnaires will be administrated in these phases so as to assess students current self esteem and
the attitudinal body image.
Aims and objectives: The aim of this research proposal is to bridge the relationship between
media influenced body image and self esteem. Then, the impact of discrepancies between actual
and ideal selves, as well as actual and ought selves of media influenced body image on

Using The Hydrate Rather Than The Anhydrous Form Of...
Theophylline is a bronchodilator used in the treatment of asthma, it has a low molecular weight of
180.2. It is slightly acidic, when in a saturated solution of water and has a pKa of 8.81.
2.What are the implications of using the hydrate rather than the anhydrous form of theophylline (i)
in formulation (manufacture of the tablet) and (ii) in biopharmaceutics (dissolution)?20%
I.Manufacturing theophylline formulations come with challenges for both the anhydrous and
hydrate. For the anhydrous form, a study showed that the wet granulation of theophylline
anhydrous in conjunction with microcrystalline cellulose, led to the formation of the monohydrate
form of the drug. This is significant because the monohydrate has slower dissolution than the
anhydrous form of theophylline. Thus the method of manufacture is highly important as the study
showed directly compressed pellets had better dissolution profiles. Also it shows the importance of
the choice of excipients as pellets manufactured via wet granulation in the absence of
microcrystalline cellulose showed similar release to that of directly anhydrous theophylline.
Theophylline monohydrate has a tendency to dehydrate during the drying process, it can do so at
fairly cool temperatures of around 60вЃ°C. So this makes temperature an important factor in the
manufacture of monohydrate as phase transition can occur.

Chinese Foreign Policy Towards North East Asian Countries
Introduction
In the 21st century, the rise of china has become the most remarkable event in the international
relations. China is one of the fastest growing economy in the world. Many researchers used
factionalism as a means to define Chinese foreign policy because of the conflict among the top
leaders during the revolutionary period. Chinese foreign policy has become more pragmatic and
sophisticated. By joining the World Trade Organization, the country increased its participation in
the global economy (Hao, Y., Hou, Y, 2009).My research topic is on the Chinese foreign policy
towards North East Asian countries. This paper concentrates on the Chinese foreign relations with
North East Asian countries like Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Russia (Zhao, Q, 1997)
The author used three key words to understand the Chinese foreign policy i.e., modernization,
nationalism and regionalism. Modernization is important for the entire task as it is essential for
solving both the domestic and external problems of the country. Nationalism is one of the major
sources behind Chinese foreign relations. China s nationalism focuses more on the Chinese foreign
policy studies. Regionalism means China is having a power to concentrate on the political,
economic and military activities .These three trends influence the Chinese foreign policies .People
of Republic China is regarded as regional power. Chinas trading activities mainly constitutes the

The Media Regulation Of The Uk
The media regulation in the U.K. is more extensive compared to the U.S. Ofcom is an independent
regulator and competition authority across television, radio etc. The PCC, also an independent
body, deals with complaints from members of the public about editorial content of newspaper and
magazines. The behavior of media is far more regulated in Britain compared to the U.S. In U.S. the
views can complain about the content to individual media outlets but in Britain the complaints are
published on various governmental website making it more visible. This means that the impact of
government regulation is more evident in British media than in the American media.
BBC is the only media outlet that is not funded by any organization or advertisers. Anyone who
owns a television has to pay the license fee, which helps fund the BBC. In the most recent
famous case, Prime Minister Tony Blair s administration became furious over a report by a BBC
freelance correspondent that the Labour government had sexed up the evidence of weapons of
mass destruction in Iraq in order to build public consensus for sending British troops to war.
Although it later became apparent that evidence of these weapons was inconclusive, an inquiry
into the matter (which also involved the suicide of a government official responsible for
unauthorized comments) led to the resignation of both the head of the BBC Board of Governors
and the BBC director general (Hutton Inquiry, 2004; Dyke, 2005). In a study of the

Human Nature And The Desire For Superiority
Holly Donohoe
Period B2
Human Nature and the Desire for Superiority
It s no doubt that superiority and power has played a huge role in the past present and will in the
future. Throughout American Literature, it is a dominant trait in many protagonists and especially
antagonists. The desirable trait has caused many conflicts and hardship and in turn, has led to the
demise of a civilizations in the past. In the film Apocalypse Now, the novella the Heart of Darkness,
and the poem The Hollow Men, it is shown how the desire for power can impose negative
impacts not only a civilization, but to the pursuer of that power as well. Containing so much
power can bring out the best in people, and at most times, it can bring out the worst. However,
many people wonder how is it that a civilization just allows a group of people or a person to
dominate them without a fight. The Hollow Men are a part of a society that has ridden them of
their own beliefs in order to leave room to impart their own dominion. On the other hand, the
character Colonel Kurtz, who is apparent in both Apocalypse Now and the novella, takes on this
role as a god in the eyes of the natives, the power later leads to his insanity.
The Hollow Men now live in a prominently atheist society, the Hollow Men no longer have the
freedom to embrace their own views, but rather the godless form of their society s beliefs (Colonel
Kurtz). The Hollow men attempt to follow their God and hold true to their beliefs, however, they re

Analysis Of The Poem Bleak Falls

A Summary Of A Mentor In Tangerine
Everyone has had someone help guide them throughout their life, even after they leave or pass.
This person can affect someone s life in a positive way. This person is known as a Mentor. As we
read the novel Tangerine, we learn that Paul has a Mentor that helps him throughout his journey. It
is clear to see that the role of the Mentor goes to Luis Cruzbecause he is a positive figure towards
Paul, he gives Paul advice, and acts as his conscience. One way that Luis Cruz is the Mentor is
how he acts as a positive figure towards Paul. For instance, he wants to make sure that Paul is
alright. When Paul goes to help fight the freeze at Tomas Cruz Groves, he got very weak and
couldn t go on. Luis sent him inside the quonset hut to lay down and sent Theresa in to get him
settled. A few moments later, Luis came in to make sure Paul was okay. Luis said, Paul are you
alright (Bloor 229)? This quote helps support the role of the Mentor because it shows how much
he cares about people, even if they had just met. The quote also portrays the positivity of Luis s
character. Therefore, one way that he is positive is how much he cares about people and wants to
make sure they are ok. Additionally positive, Luis speaks the truth. For example, after Erik hit Tino
in the head, Luis went to confront Erik. While he was there, Arthur Bauer hit him on the side of his
head under Erik s command. Luis went home and told his family. Paul thought to himself, after Luis
passed, The truth to Luis is

When Best Buy, the leading American consumer electronics...
When Best Buy, the leading American consumer electronics retailer planned to expand its
operations outside the United States in December 2000, they earmarked Canada as the first foreign
country for its international expansion strategy. The choice was mainly driven by the fact that
Canada was its closest neighbor with a retail market that was largely similar to the domestic United
States market, which Best Buyhad already dominated. The Canadian consumer electronic retail
market was largely fragmented, with the dominant force being future shop which had 15% of the
market share. The original expansion strategy for Best Buy was to enter the Canadian market and
directly compete with future shop as well as the other market players for a piece... Show more

Rebranding the Future Shop franchises would be a lengthy and costly process.
Future shop already had brand recognition as well as brand loyalty in Canada
Best Buy had already committed itself to a number of property leases before the merger.
The business risks that accompanied the move included the fear that the two competing brands,
now subsidiaries of the same company, would cannibalize each other s sales, thus splitting the
profits. Also, there were concerns that the duplication of roles that would result from each company
having its own distinct management structure would increase operational costs, minimizing overall
profitability. Another fear was that there would be diminished brand awareness for both brands as
consumers would treat the two retailers as one company, thus benefiting the competition (Laurent,
Lambkin 803).
However, the strategy proved successful. This was largely because the two retailers had their own
separate operational structure and style that attracted different market segments (Bala, Lorange 4
11), which avoided sales cannibalization between them.
Within the first year, positive results were already being seen; a case in point that proved the
strategy was successful was in Mississauga where the sales revenue only dropped by $2 million
from $40 million to $38 million while a Best Buy outlet just across the street recorded $30 million
in sales (Chandrasekhar.5)
From this market experiment in Canada, Best Buy learnt that

Interior design provides answers that are both functional and attractive and enhance the quality of
life. Interior design reflects and interacts with the cultural background and traditional heritage of the
occupants.
The design process itself runs through a systematic and interactive methodology to create an
innovative and functional design solution whereby the needs and resources of the occupants are
satisfied.
To achieve a well designed environment many elements contribute together thus innovating the
overall theme like color, light, texture, etc. Interior design provides solutions for residential,

Noise
Noise is also a significant factor and indeed is a type of pollution which can negatively effect how
we feel. The constant drone of a computer or other machinery, electrical buzzing from refrigerators
or lights, traffic noise in the street outside, workmen nearby and so on, can increase the amount of
stress that the occupants feel and would do little to evoke feelings of wellbeing in any room.
Colour
A great deal of research has been conducted into the effect of colour, too much to go into here.
On a very basic level, red is intense and attracts attention; it is also associated with passion. Blue
is more relaxing and can evoke feelings of trust and reliability so is often used in business
settings. Green is linked with nature and is easy on the eye as opposed to yellow which can
strain the eye but at the same time can increase concentration. Paler colours are more likely to
enhance the perception of space in a room. The secret is to go for the colour that is perfectly in
tune with how it makes you feel in any particular room, you are the final judge.
Smell
Pleasant aromas can enhance the perceived beauty of a room and at the same time unpleasant
smells can spoil an otherwise perfect space. This is something that estate agents well know when
it comes to selling a property. The smell of fresh coffee and newly baked bread can make a home
feel more inviting whereas strong and pungent food odours do the opposite.

Heathcliff In Emily Bronte s Romeo And Juliet
AP English IV Research Paper
Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte and Romeo in Romeo and Juliet by William
Shakespeare share similar all consuming, infatuous relationships that negatively impact their lives.
Both couples are used by the authors to express the destructive nature of obsessive relationships and
how they can determine one s fate. In both stories, love drives the characters into madness and
death.
In Romeo and Juliet, Romeo s obsession with Juliet ultimately leads to his demise when he
believes he will be separated from her. When Romeo learns of his banishment he throws himself
to the ground, his abject posture symbolizing the topsy turvy state of a soul no longer led by
reason (Andrews). Knowing he is to be separated from Juliet he becomes disturbed. Having learned

The Influence Of The Parthenon On The Acropolis
The Parthenon and Erechtheum on the Acropolis Athens was a city state in Greece that had the
Parthenon and Erechtheum temples built on an acropolis. Both temples played significant roles in
Greek history, due to their dedication to Athena, the Goddess of war and wisdom. The historical
and architectural aspects of the Parthenonwere significant in displaying scenes of Greek history,
such as the Birth of the Goddess Athena, and the battle that ensued between her and Poseidon. The

Poseidon took place; it had great significant value, much like other Greek temples. The Parthenon

The Erechtheum is not harmonious and is asymmetrical due to it being intended to see from a
distance. The structure is from the Ionic Order due to its capital with volutes, a continuous frieze
and the base where the shaft rests. This is the location where the competition between Athena and
Poseidon was held because there is a marker of Athena s olive tree. The judge of the completion was
King Cecrops, who was half serpent, half human. In the competition, Poseidon gave the Athens
saltwater, used for preservation. Athena gave them an Olive Tree which held more significant value
to them, thus Athena won the battle which led to Poseidon s violent acts that made Zeus interfere.
The significant aspect of the Erechtheum was that it was the place where the competition was held
and where Athena ultimately won control over Athens. This structure included the Porch of
Maidens which had relaxed female figures acting as columns with Doric capitals over their heads.
It also included Poseidon s trident mark, and a shrine housing a wooden image of Athena. The
Erechtheum also has the ruins of an Archaic Temple. This structure s relationship to Athena would

Nature plays an important role in our American Literature history. Most of the literature we have
come across this term, the authors have included nature as a major theme in their writing. Some of
the authors we have studied this term have been Emily Dickinson, Edgar Allan Poe, Walt Whitman,
Emerson, Rip Van Winkle, Equine, Mary Rowlandson, and Anne Bradstreet. These authors all have
written incredible, yet unique pieces, that have included naturein such a special way. Freedom has

United States vs South Africa Healthcare
AFRICA VS UNITED STATES
In our world each country has a set of standards to follow in order to establish health care insurance
for people in different communities. The state contributes about 40% of all the expenditures on
health while the public health sector delivers 80% of the population. Many resources are
concentrated in the private health sector. These resources see to the health needs of the remaining
20% of the population. Public health consumes around 11% of the government s total budget. The
way the resources are allotted, and the standard of health care delivered, varies from country to
country. Although there are similarities between South Africaand the United States regarding

Theses similarities are associated with rapidly rising cost and large, underserved populations. It is
also important to recognize the significant differences between the United States and South Africa.
South Africa is also less developed and has fewer resources than the US. South Africa has a large
private sector that is balanced to absorb management technology pioneered in the United States.
There is a move from a noncompetitive insurance environment to a competitive one because the
competition was not by hospitals to provide the best and cheapest care, but rather among the
insurers to get the healthiest patients. Consumer driven plans are central to the process because
they are ideal for risk selecting the young and fit who have been driven to new plans. Healthy
people could watch their account balances grow which leaves the truly sick behind in traditional
plans. This particular type of competition is being used to attract the healthy and in turn lead to
price increases because insurers have little incentive to control the prices medical providers are
charged. It is the responsibility of the patients to worry about the cost and the patient does not have
the same power as the insurance competitors do. According to a key South African regulator, Alex
van den Heever of the Council for Medical Schemes, Competition based on the shifting of risk

Title: The Failure of Yucca Mountain

repository, and the resulting failure of the project due to government inaction.
Introduction
I.Attention getter:
Imagine your old community swimming pool filled with trash. Now as time passes that trash just
keeps accumulating; what would you do with that trash? Where does it go or more importantly
where can it go? Well, instead of trash imagine nuclear waste. Currently, 122 power plants across

1. These dry caskets are then stored at temporary storage units that hold the nuclear waste, but these
storage units are quickly being exhausted due the accumulating amount of waste. 2. The
government wanted to find a solution to this and decided that the proposed solution should not only
prevent leakage of radioactive material into the environment, but also remain in a location for a
period of time that outlives the human civilization.
So, the government took action and passed the Nuclear Waste Policy Act of 1982.
II. Main Idea #2 A. The Nuclear Waste Policy Act of 1982 was the start of establishing a
permanent nuclear disposal site by 1998. 1. The Department of Energy was assigned to study
potential repository sites and to develop a relationship with the nuclear power plants in disposing
the nuclear waste. 2. In 1987 Congress revised the Nuclear Waste Policy Act and made Yucca
Mountain the main permanent repository site and required that the Department of Energy begin
moving the waste from the nuclear reactors to the repository by 1998. It is important to remember
that 1998 was the deadline.
B. Yucca Mountain was the chosen repository site because it was resilient to any leakage, no
environmental factors that could lead to a leakage, and because it was in the middle of a desert
where no human population was near.
1. To fund the program, the Nuclear Waste Fund was created. Since

Analysis of Engineering Student Motivation using the Expectancy Value Theory
Eric Gauck
December 5th, 2014
Colorado State University
JTC 300 R27 eric.gauck@gmail.com Abstract
The purpose of this research is to examine the initial preconceptions that engineering freshmen
believe when they first arrive at Colorado State University. Specifically, it will examine the
dichotomies between student perception and reality; hopefully revealing the perceptions and values
which lead students to leave or persevere in engineering. The focus of analysis on student
motivation utilizes the Expectancy ValueTheory. Three aspects of the Expectancy Value Theory,
expectation, utility, and perseverance, are significant factors which contribute to the completion of
challenges. These factors are integrated into a questionnaire designed to evaluate the expectations
of freshman engineering students. The implementation of a numerically scaled questionnaire
developed from components of the Expectancy Value Theory allows the abstract concept of
motivation to be quantified. The analysis of 86 freshman engineering students found that students
will need to develop a value in what they are learning or a drive for future goals to persist in
completing their declared degrees. Further data collection is recommended to improve sample
quality.

During the reign of the Roman Empire, the trade networks that connected Africa, Europe, and
Asia flourished, however, after the fall of the Romans these trade routes saw a period of decline.
This period of decline, especially on the Silk Road, was due mainly to the fact that there was no
longer a regulatory body, such as the Roman Empire, to create a safe environment for merchants.
However, in the 600 when the Muslim religion began to form and grow, their empire was able to
provide some stability for the trade routes in Africa and Europe, as well as the most western
parts of the Silk Road. The Muslim tradition of the Hajj, a trip that fulfills one of the five pillars
of Islam, was able to increase trade in Saudi Arabia especially. Stability, and thus an increase in
importance, was not truly achieved for the Silk Road until 1200 when the Mongols were able to
conquer most of Asia. The Mongols were strong believers in the merchant system that worked
along the Silk Road, therefore they put in place strict safeguards for the merchants on that route.
By the year 1200 most areas of the Afro Eurasian trade routes were safe and therefore highly

Gangs In The Outsiders
Gangs in general can be good or bad. A gang is usually a group of friends or people with

their similarities. The greaser act the same as all of the other greasers. And the Socs all act the
same and dress the same as the other Socs. The gangs in this book can get really violent. They go
from punching each other to attacking each other with blades. A blade is kinda like a knife and a
pocketknife in one. It seems like being a part of a gang can be rough.
The Socs are not poor at all. They are the rich and popular gang. They think they are way better
than the greasers. Socs usually wear nice shoes with some type of plaid shirt and khakis. They
are considered attractive and very rough and tough. They are kind of the bad guys in this novel.
They do not take drugs or rob any stores but they are good at picking fights. Over all the Socs are

History of the Refrigerator Essay
History of the Refrigerator
Back in time a long time ago, around 500 B.C. the Egyptians and Indians made ice on cold nights
by setting water out in earthenware pots and keeping the pots wet. In the 18th century England,
servants collected ice in the winter and put it into icehouses, where the sheets of ice were packed in
salt, wrapped in strips of flannel and stored underground to keep them frozen until summer. Before
the refrigerator or ice box was introduced people used snow and ice to keep their food cool, which
was either found locally or brought down from the mountains. Cellars and caves were also used to
refrigerate food. Meat and fish were preserved in warm weather by salting or smoking. The first
cellars were holes dug ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Compressed ether machines were built in Pennsylvania by Oliver Evans in 1805 and in Australia
by James Harrison in 1855, and Dr. John Gorrie in Florida built an expanding air cooling machine
in 1844. In 1851 Dr. John Gorrie created the first commercial ice making machine to cool the air
for his yellow fever patients. Soon thereafter, refrigeration and freezing became popular methods
of preserving foods for transport or storage, and in place where natural ice was not available.
Refrigeration is the process of removing heat from an enclosed space, or from a substance, to
lower its temperature. A refrigerator uses the evaporation of a liquid to absorb heat. The liquid, or
refrigerant used in a refrigerator evaporates at an extremely low temperature creating freezing
temperatures inside the refrigerator.
William Cullen at the University of Glasgow demonstrated the first known artificial refrigeration in
1748. However, he did not use his discovery for any practical purpose. In 1805, an American
inventor, Oliver Evans, designed the first refrigerator machine.
The development of mechanical refrigeration systems began in the early19th century and arose
mainly from the needs of meat producers in the USA, South America, Australia and New Zealand,
who were facing many difficulties in shipping their produce to their export markers in Europe.
Many experimental systems were built in the 1830s, utilizing the cooling effect produced by the
expansion of

The Storm Essay
Debbie wasn t sure if she ever fell asleep or not. She felt lucky just to be able to nod off now and
then. It seemed to be quieter outside. There were still random screams and loud noises from all
around, but it sounded more distant now. It reminded Debbie of a tornado that swept through a
few years ago. It was quiet, then mass destruction, then the sun came out and it was quiet again.
The storm came fast, and in minutes, it was gone. Afterward, when you looked up to the sky, it
was beautiful, almost unassuming. But the storm left its terrible mark; just like now. Doris was
awake now. She stood up on the seat and stared at Debbie. Debbie opened her eyes, and saw Doris
s little hands gripping the seat back. Her chin was propped up... Show more content on

Margo pulled a couple paper towels from a near empty roll that she brought up with them. Thank
you, Judy said as she wiped her mouth. No more booze for you, Dwayne said, as he put his arm
around Judy s shoulders. She moaned again, burying her face into Dwayne s chest. Margo sat up
and looked out to the street. She watched for any kind of movement. Anything, Dwayne asked as
he pulled out his cell phone again. Margo sighed and said, A lot of body s, that s for sure. She
jumped a bit as she ducked down. Dwayne gripped Judy tight as he looked at Margo, who was
now eye level with the wall. What, what is it, he asked urgently. Margo held her hand up to him
as she watched. After a few seconds, she lowered her hand and let out the breath she was
holding. Margo grinned then turned to Dwayne. A dog, she said as her body visibly relaxed. A
God damn dog scared the shit outta me. Dwayne loosened his grip on Judy as he sighed.
Dwayne heard the now, all too familiar, All circuits are busy as he closed his phone. Margo
looked over the wall again and said, Other than the dog, I don t see anything moving at all.
Margo sat back down and reached into one of the supply bags. She pulled out the radio, and
raised the antenna. She was about to crawl over to the wire by the door when Dwayne said, Only
for a minute. Those batteries won t last forever. Margo turned to him as she reached back into the

Immigration Policies Essay
There are many countries around the world that have very limited opportunities within the sphere
of immigration policies. A few examples are Italy, Japan and United Arab Emirates. Now that being
said all of these places aren t necessarily unfavorable places for immigrants, they are just found to
still hold restricting policies. These policies include paying money for immigrants to leave,
detaining them, and refusing rights. Through all established immigrationpolicies there is heavy
debate and controversy, but it s usually pretty easy to agree on policies that come off as too harsh.
In Italy, immigration is managed from North Africa and the Mediterranean by enforcing strict
immigration policies. Their current policies allow immigration officials to fine illegal immigrants
anywhere between €5,000 10,000 and detain them for up to 6 months. This is only one of their
immigration laws and it made people furious. There were two days of riots that left everything
destroyed, officers in the hospital and rioters detained. Though this immigration policy is still in
place Italy is ranked fairly well by MIPEX (Migration integration policy index).
Japan is another state that has always had immigration problems, but in an attempt to help their
unemployment rates, they put in place a policy that slowed down the importation of cheap labor.
They have had labor shortages because of their aging population and their change in needs. Though
labor shortages have been a problem the government,

Religion, Acceptance, And Social Change
Throughout time, the views of homosexuality throughout a country can change. Whether its
religion, acceptance, laws, or social change, the views will evolve. Greece serves as an example
of a country that was once accepting of homosexuality, but is slowly progressing to not be as
accepting. In Ancient Greece, homosexual relationships occurred regularly between an older man,
and a younger child. As stated on pbs.org, Traditionally these relationships involved an older man
and a youth and lasted until the youth reached full adulthood. Thereafter this type of relationship
was frowned upon because physical love was perceived as always involving one person in a
position of submission, something that was unacceptable for a full Greek citizen. In Ancient
Greece, homosexualitywasn t much of an issue because of gender, it was an issue based on age. The
acceptance of homosexuality throughout Ancient Greece has made a sharp turn in modern day
Greece. Although there are currently no laws against gay marriage, there are no laws that protect
homosexuals. For example, households where the main head is a homosexual couple s do not
have the same rights to protection as compared to couples that are heterosexual. Greece has
experienced a turning point on their stance regarding homosexuality. A concept that was once
highly accepted and viewed as common is now beginning to be looked down upon. Hate crime
against homosexuals in Greece has begun to increase. As Fragkiska Megaloudi wrote on the

In less than five, double spaced, typewritten pages, plus any exhibits, please answer the following
questions about MW Petroleum Corp. This assignment is worth a maximum of 100 points. 1. (10
points.) Apart from any quantitative analysis, are there any reasons to anticipate that Apache
Corporation s acquisition of MW Petroleum might be a positive net present valueactivity for
Apache, for Amoco? Explain. This looks like an attractive deal for both parties. Amoco does many
things well, but managing smaller, marginally productive oil and gas fields apparently isn t one of
them. This is a chance to unload some properties that because of their high cost structure, Amoco
can t manage profitably. Apache, on the other hand, has low costs and is... Show more content on

The estimates of reserves and annual production figures were generated by independent
petroleum engineers (presumably paid by Amoco). The forecasts of direct costs are based
primarily on Amoco s historical experience, and projected overhead is based on amounts Amoco
itself expects to save by divesting MW. Recall, the basic premise of the transaction is that
Apache can operate the fields more efficiently than Amoco. Because such efficiencies have not
yet been incorporated into the projections, there is reason to believe the direct costs are
overstated from Apache s perspective. Looking only at the direct costs, their overstatement
suggests that the resulting valuation may be biased low. If so, the valuation will be below
Apache s maximum acquisition price, and Apache could bid above this figure and still generate a
positive NPV. The valuation might be viewed more properly as Amoco s reservation price, below
which it should not sell. 3. (20 points.) Exhibits 3 7 contain cash flow projections for MW
Petroleum. To what extent do these numbers represent free cash flows suitable for use in a
discounted cash flow valuation? In particular, please comment on the treatment of overhead (line
8), financial
book DD A (line 9), taxes (lines 11 14), Non cash charges (line 16), and terminal value (line 20).

The social dimension of PTSD can be explained by poor social support during childhood and
adulthood. The most important factor would most likely be the lack of support after a traumatic
incident (Sue, Sue, Sue, and Sue, 2014, p.125). For example, if James Ryan came back from
World War II and was abandoned by his mother, it would hit him pretty hard. Not only did he
face traumatic experiences on the battlefield, but coming home to see that his mom had left him
all alone would be devastating. Being isolated and not having any support from his family could
result in higher chances of developing PTSD. The etiology of how PTSD has been uncover, the
following will be various treatments for people who have developed the disorder. There are two
types are treatments that can be used on patients suffering from post traumatic stress disorder. The
first types of treatment that can be used are biological treatments, which involve medication such as
selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressants. The purpose of the SSRI
antidepressants is to alter serotonin levels which can aid in reducing activity in the amygdala. The
problem with medication is that it only works for 20 30% of patients who take this

services by SAH if the CPI deems the child does not need immediate removal. There are four
main programs that are offered by SAH that vary in duration and intensity depending on the
severity of the case, and if the family accepts, a case manager is assigned. The services offered to

counselling and treatment. Via a team approach, SAH helps families in crisis develop effective
coping skills and ensures children are safe in their homes by providing parents with the necessary
tools and resources to adequately care for their children in a safe and stable environment.
As child neglect, abuse, or maltreatment occurs among all populations, the agency serves all

  • 2. A Cold, Brittle Wind Blew The Front Door Open The chill of a cold, brittle wind blew the front door open just as the two gentlemen and gentlewoman approached the front walk. The men were all of a leisurely persuasion and the young lady was a stray sort even after all this time. Time had cut through the hardness and briskness of their demeanor. This was a grand occasion as they had been invited to dine with one of their colleagues. The home was legend in their world and was owned by a one Nathaniel Hawthorne, a prolific author. Hawthorne gave The Wayside the name by which it is still known. The Wayside built in 1714 is a typical New England two story wood frame house, in Concord, Massachusetts. Before Hawthorne bought it, the house belonged to the Alcott family, who names it Hillside. Here, Louisa May Alcottand her sisters lived much of their childhood described in Little Women. With that much literary history in the home, it was the perfect place to hold a dinner party. Mr. E. A Poe, his proud and beautiful head erect, his dark eyes flashing with the elective light of feeling and of thought, a peculiar, an inimitable blending of sweetness and hauteur in his expression and manner, greeted his guests into the front parlor as they waited for the dinner to commence. The gentlemen were attired in a black frockcoat with a shite shirts and black cravats, tied somewhat loosely. There were a certain cool, stale smell about the room but this did not seem to discern the guests. As they glided into the front room a single card ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay On Single American Food Diet is a huge concern for many people today who are either trying to control a preventable disease or those people who are trying to lose the excess weight that they are carrying around with them. Not only has our diet as Americans been steadily getting worse but as our population has risen there have been very few attempts to counter the negative effects that over processing our food has done. Every Single American, who has eaten the hot lunches at school remembers and has a first hand knowledge of the taste of preservatives and manufactured flavor of the food they ate during their formative years attending Elementary through High School. To get an understanding of our diet we need to see the what has been in front of our faces for generations. In fact at least 2 generations. The only generation in its entirety to to not see food that was processed and packaged for shelf life was that of our greatest generation... those people who fought and won World War II. Many of them were exposed to it during their time in the Military but up until then had probably grown most of their food themselves or, at the very least, had access to fresh, food sans preservatives. What was it about that time frame that has now caused the greatest lack of basic constituents that food has ever known? I will cover that in another article. You, like me have... However essential oils are a good way for vegetarians and vegans to supplement what they are lacking in their diets unless they grow all their food themselves, but I digress. • 4. Secondary And Tertiary Levels Of Care Secondary and tertiary levels of care both provide more specialised, regionalised care for patients in the health system, the lines between which are often blurred, but still present key distinctions. Secondary care is specialised clinical care for problems more complex than those requiring primary care. Secondary care has a finer scope of specialisation than primary care, with this narrowing of specialisation continuing up the health care levels (Health Evidence Network, 2004). Secondary care therefore includes physicians who operate in the scope of a specialty, such as general surgeons, internists and neurologists (Bodenheimer Grumbach, 2009). Secondary care is most commonly provided in the context of a hospital setting, or a community office of the specialist. Whilst tertiary care provides care for more complex illnesses as well, it instead focuses on subspecialties. Tertiary care providers work at the apex of their specialties, servicing a far greater proportion of the population compared to the other health care levels, as their services are so highly focused (Bodenheimer Grumbach, 2009). As tertiary care is the uppermost level of care in a typical system, it is generally provided at a select number of hospitals or specialist tertiary centers. Examples of tertiary care providers include cardiac surgeons; specialist burns units, and immunologists, who may concentrate on rare illnesses (Bodenheimer Grumbach, 2009). Questions three and four: Describe how patients ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Application Of Flexible All Graphite Paper Based Field... Flexible All Graphite Paper based Field Effect Transistor for motion detection using strain sensing Srinivasulu Kanaparthi, Sushmee Badhulika* Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad, Hyderabad, 502285, India. *Corresponding author: E mail: sbadh@iith.ac.in; Telephone: 040 23018443; Fax: 04023016032 Abstract Here we report the fabrication of a flexible all carbon field effect transistor (FET) using a low cost, recyclable and biodegradable cellulose paper as both substrate as well as dielectric and pencil graphite as source, drain, channel and gate without using any other expensive, toxic or non biodegradable materials. The electron and hole mobility s of FET are observed to be 180 and 200 cm2v 1s 1 respectively which are comparable to the recently reported values of paper FET with polymer dielectric and cellulose composite dielectrics. The FET was utilized as a strain sensor which shows good sensitivity for low strains of both tensile and compressive type. The mobility of the FET increases with increase in compressive strain and decreases with increase in tensile strain. The sensitivity of the FET sensor increases with the increase in the gate voltage. HERE YOU CAN MAKE A COMMENT ON HOW THIS STRAIN SENSOR IS BETTER THAN SILICON STRAIN SENSORS IN PERFORMANCE. Further we investigated the performance of the sensor by integrating it with hand gloves to detect human motion. The results obtained indicate that the sensor can be utilized ... • 6. Rugby Energy System It is of common knowledge that there proves to be a significant difference in what it takes physiologically speaking when comparing athletes of different sporting backgrounds to one another. Why is a marathon runner not as powerful as a rugby player or why can t a 400m sprinter run a marathon? Simple, each athlete is more equipped to three different energy systems. As a sporting coach it is universal to have an understanding of the three main energy systems that underpins the study of exercise and the effect it has on the human body in regards to athletic performance. In order to recognize the role in which different energy systems play in athletic performance, an understanding will need to be gained. For this reasons this report is broken... • 7. Essay about Narrative- Water Slide Experience Narrative Water Slide Experience I was so excited. I could hardly breathe through the hour drive it took to get there. I was squished between my two ten year old best friends in the back seat of a white Saturn, but I didn t care. I was practicing over and over in my head what I was going to say to all the smart alecky adults who would tell me I was too young to ride the water slides. I was simply going to reply, Actually I m ten, going on eleven. On the right of me sat the girl I met in preschool, the swimmer who was named after a state like me: Tennessee. She was the observant artist. She sat there holding a deck of cards, trying to find all the queens. I could tell she was nervous. Her hands were sweating. The cards were damp ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We are all exact triposites, if there s any such thing. I was so nervous and excited at the same time that I practically leaped out of the car with my Gap backpack and my Wal Mart towel flying behind me. I could hear the screaming and crying of children. After we went through the long line to pay and put on a whole tube of sunscreen, we were ready to have some real fun. We wandered around trying to find the perfect ride. Tennessee and I had decided on the water gym when Anna suddenly stopped short. She pointed way up in the air. Our eyes slowly followed her finger. Through our ten year old eyes we saw what looked like the scariest ride in the entire world. It was a 50 foot tall, sky blue slide that went straight down into a giant pool of deep dark water. Anna looked around and smiled. Her short brown hair jumped and fell each time she took a long stride. Her brown eyes twinkled as she walked to the slide. She seemed so proud about being brave and daring to walk up to The Death Slide. Tennessee and I felt embarrassed that a girl six months younger than we were was going to ride it while we were going to play on the water gym. But Tennessee and I had a plan to cover up our embarrassment. We were going to act like we were going to ride The Death Slide, and then, at the last minute, say we forgot something and wait at the bottom for Anna. Even though the essential use of this industry has been to satisfy the customer s need to travel from one place to another in comfort, the constantly changing market, has slowly changed customer s needs into wants paving way for high competition in the automobile arena. This essay gives a brief analysis on BMW, one of the leading brands in the industry and how they effectively use marketing as a tool to achieve the status they enjoy now. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... BMW s chief competitors are Mercedes Benz, GM, Toyota, and Ford. There are more companies coming into the automobile industry with the same quality but cheaper price range. That s when BMW, launched a new 7 series of cars which is more stylish and fashion orientated than their main value of performance. This was a highly calculated risk that BMW took as this strategy deviated highly from their core values and they faced the risk of losing the loyal customer base who believed in the tagline promoting BMW as the ultimate driving machine. When conducting a feedback from the customers in US, they found that almost 75% 5 were not interested in buying the product. Although, the new look might threaten to alienate its current customer base, it has not had any damaging impact on the company s sales. It is still the number one car brand in the European market with a sales increase of 2.2% 8 in its home country in 2006 and almost 7%8 sales growth in the US market in 2007. The BMW group has always been highly market driven and have been aggressive marketers of their product. They are dynamic in their promotion and innovative and are initiators in their field. • 9. Night By Elie Wiesel Tabula Rasa Quotes Tabula Rasa is the epistemological belief that people are born as a clean slate. Therefore, all knowledge one has, is acquired. This includes the decision of right or wrong. If one is raised correctly and decides to make the right choices in life, they should have privileges. It is possible for human rights to be actualized for every person willing to live by them. First, criminals or people who hurt others on purpose shouldn t expect to receive human rights. In the novel, Night by Elie Wiesel, the author retells stories of when he was a victim of the holocaust. In this book, he tells a story of a Jewish woman screaming that she saw a fire whilst on a train to the concentration camps. The other passengers were getting annoyed, so they tried to stop the woman.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Look at the flames! Flames everywhere.... These men shouldn t expect to receive human rights after they harmed a poor woman that they thought was mentally ill. They took away her rights, therefore the possibility of rights for them is out of the picture. In addition, to Elie s book, he also gave a speech, Perils of Indifference, to express his views of indifference and how it affects our society. He mentions, These failures have cast a dark shadow over humanity: two world wars, countless civil wars, the senseless chain of assassinations...blood baths in Cambodia and Algeria, India and Pakistan, Ireland and Rwanda, Eritrea and Ethiopia, Sarajevo and Kosovo... ... • 10. Teaching Style Of The Instructor Each teacher is different no matter what the course subject is. When I find myself in a new class with a new professor I seem to notice the little details that make up the teaching style of the instructor. In total I have four classes all of which are part of Chattahoochee technical College. Two of those classes take place at the Paulding Campus and the other two take place at the North Metro campus. I take my American Government class at the North Metro Campus every Tuesdays and Thursdays. Every Monday and Wednesday I go to the Paulding Campus to take College Algebra. These two professors differ in more ways than just the subject of their course. My American government teacher is pretty cool. He has a very fun way of teaching. By cracking jokes and making cheesy remarks on every chapter, he always succeeds at making his class an interesting one. Every lecture does not even seem like one. I always look forward to sitting in the front of his class ready to learn everything. However, my college algebra professor is, with all due respect, a more old schooled instructor. He does crack a few jokes from time to time but he s mostly serious. He is very focused because in math one flaw, no matter how small, can cause the answer to be wrong. His way of teaching is quite interesting as well; not only does he teach the class the easiest way to solve a problem, he also teaches the class the harder way. Every student is different so the line between the easy way and the hard way ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Electric Sheep Androids First published in 1968, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, by Philip K. Dick, still manages to find relevance in today s reality. Much of that is due to the fascination of androids in the modern world s pop culture, and how the concept raises debate and speculation on what is considered human, or equal to humans in consciousness. More recently, Dick s idea of humanity and what it means for the androids, has had a resurgence in the popular television show Westworld , and shows no sign of slowing down. The central debate for the question at hand seems to be: what makes something human or not human? As much as Dick attempts to undo the barrier that separates android from proper human by making the barrier unclear, there is still a definite... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Evidence for this starts to pop up all over the text. This juncture appears in a scene in which two bounty hunters are looking at the painting entitled, The Scream , by Edvard Munch. Phil says I think that this is how an andy must feel (Dick 121). This clearly resonates with Deckard as much as it does with Phil, because the remainder of the novel we seem to feel his discomfort in retiring androids. He asks seconds after killing Luba, Do you think androids have souls? (Dick 125). With all of these blurred lines, one can assume that there s a shortcoming of some sort of spark in an android that would make them equal to humans. Whether it s their lack of connection to animals, their void of empathy towards living beings and even each other, or even Dick s paucity of explanation as to why some of these lines are blurred, it widens the rift between human and android. This bacterium is most commonly found in dirt, water, and plants. The people that are most likely to contract this infection are high risk populations; such as elderly people, pregnant women, young children, and people with compromised immune systems. It is estimated that 1,600 people become infected with listeriosis every year, and about 260 people die from the infection, which means 1 in 5 infected can die. One September day arose, rain was falling and so were my emotions. I felt sad for no reason, I should have felt happy because it was Saturday, but no matter what happened, I was down. In the Catcher in the Rye, J.D. Salinger uses weatherto exploit emotion. As rain approaches many people start to feel depressed, but also content. Holden explains why he believes people are crazy for leaving the cemetery just because of the rain. He starts to talk about what the scenery looks like, and how he feels. Holden states It rained on his lousy tombstone, and it rained on the grass on his stomach. All the visitors that were visiting the cemetery started running like hell over their cars. That s what really drove me crazy (172). Holden becomes sad as he sees everyone leave just because of the rain, he feels depressed that people would just leave their loved ones alone. Holden s emotions are depressing, but he will also show a sign of joy due to the weather. Holden changes to a happy state of mind as he sees the many parents hide under the carousel for cover. He talks about feeling happy as he views Phoebe going around and around on the carousel. He states It began to rain like a bastard. All the parents and mothers and everybody went over and stood right under the roof of the carousel. I felt so damn happy all of the sudden, the way Phoebe was going around and around and around (233). Holden will not let the rain change her happiness, he consumes happiness and feels like he may cry. Overall, rain has played a key role in showing emotion, but the snow seems to take a different turn on things. Salinger shows that the cold can pick up emotions to make people feel despondent and lonely. Holden describes a time in the city when he felt like he had vanished from life. He talks about crossing the road, but then everytime he would cross he would feel gone. He projects It was kind of a crazy afternoon, terrifically cold, and no sunout or anything, you would feel like you were disappearing every time you crossed a road (8). Next, the department of defense also locates and punishes any terrorists who attack which is a difficult and dangerous task. As the secretary of defense, it is his or her duty to ensure that each branch in the United States military is well trained and prepared for any obstacle that they may face whether it be planned or unforeseen. The secretary of defense also ensures that these men and women in the armed forces are well equipped to do their jobs (Ruffin). There seems to be a high failure rate among those who have served as the secretary of defense. Are these secretaries actually failing at their job, or are they reaching toward the impossible goal of trying to keep each and every American citizen safe from terrorist attacks on our nation? Many of these secretaries are let go by the president due to a lack of confidence in them (Stevenson). The ideal secretary of defense would need to be skilled in politics, leadership, relationships, and many other areas, but someone who is exceptional in all areas would be nearly impossible to find. Abstract: Research has shown that exposure to thin ideal media is related to body dissatisfaction. Consequently, the accumulated dissatisfying emotions regarding one s body can evolve into distorted body perception. Such disturbed body image has been evident as associated with low self esteem. Nonetheless, little research has sought to elucidate the rationales for these perplexed psychological relationships. With a few previous research touched on the self discrepancy theory vis Г vis understanding body image dysfunctions, thus it is proposed that thin ideal media exposure facilitates the reconstruction of media audience s self ideal body image; it hence activates the body image self assessment and results in self discrepancies and are prone to lower self esteem. This study is in correlational design conducted in college classrooms. It contains two phases with thin ideal media exposure in between. For the anhydrous form, a study showed that the wet granulation of theophylline anhydrous in conjunction with microcrystalline cellulose, led to the formation of the monohydrate form of the drug. This is significant because the monohydrate has slower dissolution than the anhydrous form of theophylline. Thus the method of manufacture is highly important as the study showed directly compressed pellets had better dissolution profiles. Also it shows the importance of the choice of excipients as pellets manufactured via wet granulation in the absence of microcrystalline cellulose showed similar release to that of directly anhydrous theophylline. Theophylline monohydrate has a tendency to dehydrate during the drying process, it can do so at fairly cool temperatures of around 60вЃ°C. So this makes temperature an important factor in the manufacture of monohydrate as phase transition can occur. II.A study conducted in 1992 found ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout American Literature, it is a dominant trait in many protagonists and especially antagonists. The desirable trait has caused many conflicts and hardship and in turn, has led to the demise of a civilizations in the past. In the film Apocalypse Now, the novella the Heart of Darkness, and the poem The Hollow Men, it is shown how the desire for power can impose negative impacts not only a civilization, but to the pursuer of that power as well. Containing so much power can bring out the best in people, and at most times, it can bring out the worst. However, many people wonder how is it that a civilization just allows a group of people or a person to dominate them without a fight. The Hollow Men are a part of a society that has ridden them of their own beliefs in order to leave room to impart their own dominion. On the other hand, the character Colonel Kurtz, who is apparent in both Apocalypse Now and the novella, takes on this role as a god in the eyes of the natives, the power later leads to his insanity. It is clear to see that the role of the Mentor goes to Luis Cruzbecause he is a positive figure towards Paul, he gives Paul advice, and acts as his conscience. One way that Luis Cruz is the Mentor is how he acts as a positive figure towards Paul. For instance, he wants to make sure that Paul is alright. Future shop already had brand recognition as well as brand loyalty in Canada Best Buy had already committed itself to a number of property leases before the merger. The business risks that accompanied the move included the fear that the two competing brands, now subsidiaries of the same company, would cannibalize each other s sales, thus splitting the profits. Also, there were concerns that the duplication of roles that would result from each company having its own distinct management structure would increase operational costs, minimizing overall profitability. Another fear was that there would be diminished brand awareness for both brands as consumers would treat the two retailers as one company, thus benefiting the competition (Laurent, Lambkin 803). However, the strategy proved successful. This was largely because the two retailers had their own separate operational structure and style that attracted different market segments (Bala, Lorange 4 11), which avoided sales cannibalization between them. Within the first year, positive results were already being seen; a case in point that proved the strategy was successful was in Mississauga where the sales revenue only dropped by $2 million from $40 million to $38 million while a Best Buy outlet just across the street recorded $30 million in sales (Chandrasekhar.5) From this market experiment in Canada, Best Buy learnt that ... United States vs South Africa Healthcare AFRICA VS UNITED STATES In our world each country has a set of standards to follow in order to establish health care insurance for people in different communities. The state contributes about 40% of all the expenditures on health while the public health sector delivers 80% of the population. Many resources are concentrated in the private health sector. These resources see to the health needs of the remaining 20% of the population. Public health consumes around 11% of the government s total budget. Theses similarities are associated with rapidly rising cost and large, underserved populations. It is also important to recognize the significant differences between the United States and South Africa. South Africa is also less developed and has fewer resources than the US. South Africa has a large private sector that is balanced to absorb management technology pioneered in the United States. There is a move from a noncompetitive insurance environment to a competitive one because the competition was not by hospitals to provide the best and cheapest care, but rather among the insurers to get the healthiest patients. Consumer driven plans are central to the process because they are ideal for risk selecting the young and fit who have been driven to new plans. Healthy people could watch their account balances grow which leaves the truly sick behind in traditional plans. This particular type of competition is being used to attract the healthy and in turn lead to price increases because insurers have little incentive to control the prices medical providers are charged. It is the responsibility of the patients to worry about the cost and the patient does not have the same power as the insurance competitors do. So, the government took action and passed the Nuclear Waste Policy Act of 1982. II. Main Idea #2 A. The Nuclear Waste Policy Act of 1982 was the start of establishing a permanent nuclear disposal site by 1998. 1. Analysis of Engineering Student Motivation using the Expectancy Value Theory Eric Gauck December 5th, 2014 Colorado State University JTC 300 R27 eric.gauck@gmail.com Abstract The purpose of this research is to examine the initial preconceptions that engineering freshmen believe when they first arrive at Colorado State University. Specifically, it will examine the dichotomies between student perception and reality; hopefully revealing the perceptions and values which lead students to leave or persevere in engineering. The focus of analysis on student motivation utilizes the Expectancy ValueTheory. Three aspects of the Expectancy Value Theory, expectation, utility, and perseverance, are significant factors which contribute to the completion of challenges. These factors are integrated into a questionnaire designed to evaluate the expectations of freshman engineering students. The implementation of a numerically scaled questionnaire developed from components of the Expectancy Value Theory allows the abstract concept of motivation to be quantified. The analysis of 86 freshman engineering students found that students will need to develop a value in what they are learning or a drive for future goals to persist in completing their declared degrees. Further data collection is recommended to improve sample quality. Introduction This empirical report tests a sample population to better understand the motivations and expectations for freshman engineering students. The intent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During the reign of the Roman Empire, the trade networks that connected Africa, Europe, and Asia flourished, however, after the fall of the Romans these trade routes saw a period of decline. This period of decline, especially on the Silk Road, was due mainly to the fact that there was no longer a regulatory body, such as the Roman Empire, to create a safe environment for merchants. However, in the 600 when the Muslim religion began to form and grow, their empire was able to provide some stability for the trade routes in Africa and Europe, as well as the most western parts of the Silk Road. The Muslim tradition of the Hajj, a trip that fulfills one of the five pillars of Islam, was able to increase trade in Saudi Arabia especially. History of the Refrigerator Essay History of the Refrigerator Back in time a long time ago, around 500 B.C. the Egyptians and Indians made ice on cold nights by setting water out in earthenware pots and keeping the pots wet. In the 18th century England, servants collected ice in the winter and put it into icehouses, where the sheets of ice were packed in salt, wrapped in strips of flannel and stored underground to keep them frozen until summer. Before the refrigerator or ice box was introduced people used snow and ice to keep their food cool, which was either found locally or brought down from the mountains. In 1851 Dr. John Gorrie created the first commercial ice making machine to cool the air for his yellow fever patients. Soon thereafter, refrigeration and freezing became popular methods of preserving foods for transport or storage, and in place where natural ice was not available. Refrigeration is the process of removing heat from an enclosed space, or from a substance, to lower its temperature. A refrigerator uses the evaporation of a liquid to absorb heat. The liquid, or refrigerant used in a refrigerator evaporates at an extremely low temperature creating freezing temperatures inside the refrigerator. William Cullen at the University of Glasgow demonstrated the first known artificial refrigeration in 1748. However, he did not use his discovery for any practical purpose. In 1805, an American inventor, Oliver Evans, designed the first refrigerator machine. The development of mechanical refrigeration systems began in the early19th century and arose mainly from the needs of meat producers in the USA, South America, Australia and New Zealand, who were facing many difficulties in shipping their produce to their export markers in Europe. A few examples are Italy, Japan and United Arab Emirates. Now that being said all of these places aren t necessarily unfavorable places for immigrants, they are just found to still hold restricting policies. These policies include paying money for immigrants to leave, detaining them, and refusing rights. Through all established immigrationpolicies there is heavy debate and controversy, but it s usually pretty easy to agree on policies that come off as too harsh. In Italy, immigration is managed from North Africa and the Mediterranean by enforcing strict immigration policies. Their current policies allow immigration officials to fine illegal immigrants anywhere between €5,000 10,000 and detain them for up to 6 months. This is only one of their immigration laws and it made people furious. There were two days of riots that left everything destroyed, officers in the hospital and rioters detained. Whether its religion, acceptance, laws, or social change, the views will evolve. Greece serves as an example of a country that was once accepting of homosexuality, but is slowly progressing to not be as accepting. In Ancient Greece, homosexual relationships occurred regularly between an older man, and a younger child. As stated on pbs.org, Traditionally these relationships involved an older man and a youth and lasted until the youth reached full adulthood. Thereafter this type of relationship was frowned upon because physical love was perceived as always involving one person in a position of submission, something that was unacceptable for a full Greek citizen. In Ancient Greece, homosexualitywasn t much of an issue because of gender, it was an issue based on age. The acceptance of homosexuality throughout Ancient Greece has made a sharp turn in modern day Greece. Although there are currently no laws against gay marriage, there are no laws that protect homosexuals. For example, households where the main head is a homosexual couple s do not have the same rights to protection as compared to couples that are heterosexual. This assignment is worth a maximum of 100 points. 1. (10 points.) Apart from any quantitative analysis, are there any reasons to anticipate that Apache Corporation s acquisition of MW Petroleum might be a positive net present valueactivity for Apache, for Amoco? Explain. This looks like an attractive deal for both parties. Amoco does many things well, but managing smaller, marginally productive oil and gas fields apparently isn t one of them. This is a chance to unload some properties that because of their high cost structure, Amoco can t manage profitably. Apache, on the other hand, has low costs and is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The estimates of reserves and annual production figures were generated by independent petroleum engineers (presumably paid by Amoco). The forecasts of direct costs are based primarily on Amoco s historical experience, and projected overhead is based on amounts Amoco itself expects to save by divesting MW. Recall, the basic premise of the transaction is that Apache can operate the fields more efficiently than Amoco. Because such efficiencies have not yet been incorporated into the projections, there is reason to believe the direct costs are overstated from Apache s perspective. Looking only at the direct costs, their overstatement suggests that the resulting valuation may be biased low. If so, the valuation will be below Apache s maximum acquisition price, and Apache could bid above this figure and still generate a positive NPV. The valuation might be viewed more properly as Amoco s reservation price, below which it should not sell. 3. (20 points.) Exhibits 3 7 contain cash flow projections for MW Petroleum.
