World War 2 was the largest war in history, involving most nations around the world. The Axis powers of Germany, Italy, and Japan fought against the Allied nations of France, Britain, the United States, and others. Key events included Germany's aggression in Europe starting in the late 1930s by remilitarizing, annexing Austria and Czechoslovakia, and invading Poland in 1939. Japan later attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941, bringing the US into the war. The Allies launched D-Day in 1944 and dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 before Germany and Japan surrendered, ending the massive global conflict.
