One narrative structure would be open. Open narratives
don’t reach a conclusion, for example soap operas such as
Emmerdale, East-enders Coronation Street, etc. Another
example would be comic books, as they just seem to carry on
without a final conclusion or moral.
A closed narrative is when you reach a conclusion, for
example most films and books have a closed narrative. For
example the film and book gone girl is a closed narrative.
A single strand structure is just one story line, or example a
film called the Bair witch project is a single strand narrative.
Where as a multi-strand is where there are many different
story lines and characters such as Eastenders.
A linear narrative structure is when events happen in order
straight through the story, where as non linear is when
events don’t go through the story in order, there are flash
backs and flash forwards, for example gone girl is non linear.
A realist structure is when it reflects “real life” as they are
believable events that could happen to anyone, on the other
hand an antirealist structure is the opposite of realist, for
example events, characters, locations of which are highly
impossible to find in real life, Harry Potter for example.
There are different components in a book. For example the
opening, which is always the start of your book. Then there
is the conflict, which is usually the driver of your story.
There is always a resolution, which is the ending.
Throughout the story there may be components such as
enigma, which is a puzzle, therefor intrigues the
viewer/reader. There may also be climax, which is the
turning point, changes characters fate for example.
Manipulation of time or space is also used to jump forwards
or backwards or stretch out time.
