1. Patriarchal societies in which women play only a
supportive role
2. Overt leadership frowned upon & discouraged
3. Women support this mindset, perpetuate their
own submission
Enormous frustration & suppressed anger

8. Result of this…
1. Massive loss of talent, energy, power, resources
at a time when the Ummah needs it the most
2. Huge frustration in the younger generation
leading to all kinds of dysfunctionality
3. Enormous loss of energy in unnecessary coping
Social illnesses including divorce

9. What does Islam say?
1. Man and woman are created equal & don’t
‘complete or complement’ one another
2. Have equal but different responsibilities for
which they are accountable & rewarded
3. Free to pursue their dreams within the purview
of Islamic principles – that’s why you have hijab
Reward is proportional to effort

10. What must you do?
1. Mothers, stop being a part of the problem
2. Focus on the development of the girl child
3. Teach boys to respect women
4. Develop yourself & earn respect
Show how you can contribute

1. Focus on education of the girl, not marriage
2. Reject all unislamic marriage customs
3. Teach your boys to cook, clean, wash, sweep
4. Absolute fairness – don’t illtreat daughters in law

1. In the life of every man and woman comes a
time when they have a unique opportunity to
make an impact and influence others.
2. To succeed we need to anticipate, prepare and
act with courage when it opens
The window remains open only for a time

even if we remain alive
Living is not merely breathing

1. Living life is about making choices:
1. Choosing to be a “Victim”
2. Or choosing to be a “Master”
2. Both stances are subject to the same givens of society,
